Overall, MW3 is a decent entry in the series, although it lacks some of the coherence of earlier installments. While MW2 and, to an extent, MW, set up clearly delineated plots following individuals through effective story arcs, MW3 bounces around a little too much, taking you to exotic locales, certainly, but seemingly only because they wanted to be able to say the game takes place in the US, Paris, London, and everywhere else. The resolution to a major series arc, the invasion of the US, is rushed and largely ignored. The campaign is chaotically structured, which helps keep the player off-balance, but also prevents a large degree of emotional investment in any of the played characters or, for that matter, the situation the world is in.
That said, the gameplay is solid, just as it was in MW2. This is no accident; no substantial changes occurred to the engine, so MW2 players will be able to pick up MW3 without any difficulty at all. The game is relatively entertaining and provides enough variety to keep your interest through its campaign.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much. The campaign is depressingly short, about eight hours. For a $60 game, this is too short by half, shorter even than MW2. In truth, it feels more like a long DLC rather than an installment in the series. For campaign players, though, it's a solid game, good adventure, and has enough spice to make it fun. It is on the short side, but manages to close the story without feeling rushed. Consider waiting until prices fall somewhat, though, if you're not keen on multiplayer.

The story is still as over the top as ever and is quite enjoyable. (More so than Battlefield 3 for sure) Spec Ops is still a fun little addition to the game that got a lot of love in innovative new scenarios that are a bit more interesting and challenging than the previous go round. Now, having that said I can see why people are complaining that this game is not innovative. It is not innovative. That is my only complaint about this game and hopefully the next Call of Duty will add something more. The novelty of the Call of Duty series is slowly dying away. Expand

The feeling of being connected to the characters in the single player is all but lost and any emotional attachment is one that stems from the first Modern Warfare game. What we see? Nothing new since Modern Warfare 2, but it doesn't meant that MW 2 is amazing. Why? Because best game in series Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare with gorgeous tuned game engine, great control and movement in multiplayer. Developers finally purchase id Tech 5 and build new game on IW 1.1 in my dreams.

Since Modern Warfare 2 was easily worthy of a 9 or 10, it follows that the successor earns about half of that. The campaign's length has been cut to approximately half the length of the previous game, most of which is recycled and formulaic content, including the obligatory stealth sections that account for far too much time in an already short game. The inclusion of a new character withSince Modern Warfare 2 was easily worthy of a 9 or 10, it follows that the successor earns about half of that. The campaign's length has been cut to approximately half the length of the previous game, most of which is recycled and formulaic content, including the obligatory stealth sections that account for far too much time in an already short game. The inclusion of a new character with an interesting back story only highlights how the player is held hostage to the story. As with the No Russian mission of MW2, control is but an illusion. The player is given a gun during a flashback sequence and allowed the opportunity to attempt to change the existing canon - logically, of course, this sequence is impossible and subsequently pointless, burning more precious minutes of a painfully brief story. The amount of time the player controls their character versus the amount spent unable to control their character (through enforced actions, such as being tossed around by an explosion, vehicle rides or plot sections) means that calling the campaign 5 hours is perhaps being overly generous. Compare to other titles on the shelf, such as The Elder Scrolls V, Dark Souls or Deus Ex Human Revolution, and this is an unforgivable offence.
Spec Ops, the glorious co-op element of MW2, makes a return, although it is notably shorter and considerably easier than the previous iteration. The insult to the developers' lack of creativity comes when you not only run an obstacle course akin to the first Spec Ops level of MW2, but when a later mission involves running the same course in reverse. Spec Ops is helped by the inclusion of Survival mode, which continues the trend started by Gears of War 2's Horde mode and further continued with Halo ODST and Left 4 Dead. This mode allows the player to fight increasingly difficult waves of enemies across the multiplayer maps. Jarringly, unlike the other games just mentioned, both Spec Ops Missions and Survival modes are still limited to two players, either splitscreen or online. Given that Horde Mode in Gears 2 is responsible for the resurgence of the mode's popularity (which could be traced as far back as Unreal Tournament 2004), it is perplexing that Modern Warfare 3 fails to push past a simple two-player limitation. The era of two-player co-op, without justification (Army of Two, for instance, had a legitimate justification for its restriction), should have ended with the four controller ports on the Xbox or at least the emergence of viable online console play. The third option for the game is the multiplayer. Other than a slight adjustment to killstreaks, the only difference between Modern Warfare 2 and 3 in this regard is the cosmetic change of new maps and a few new weapons. Even the two game modes touted by marketing are nothing more than variations of team deathmatch. Team Defender is essentially Halo 3's Juggernaut mode, but adapted to team play. Kill Confirmed is nothing more than team deathmatch, with each corpse dropping tags that need to be collected for the kill to be scored. Neither is hardly a revolution in multiplayer, heradling the culmination of the spin-off series' decline in innovation.
The curiosity of multiplayer gaming is the only motivation to purchase the game. The multiplayer element remains largely unchanged since Modern Warfare 2, even though Black Ops offered a more robust system - the balance of unlocking and purchasing equipment was far more enriching than simply unlocking the gear as in MW3. However, the mainstream has moved on from MW2 and Black Ops to MW3, for better or worse. Finding a server in either game is made all the more difficult with the bulk of players moving on. The question one must ask is, how badly do I want to pay for a game I already own? Unfortunately, the disparity between critic response and user response seems to indicate that, had these concerns been brought to light earlier, the third title would not have outsold its predecessor. Critics and consumers bought into hype that was delivering a diluted product. Expect to see this title stacking the pre-owned shelves as there is not enough content to leave this on your shelf at home.

The pit falls of the PC version though really trump could have been, the game doesn't even feel supported and seemed like the developers didn't care at all for PC gamers. To them we are all pirates and there is no $ in PC gaming. Which is funny, because I see that most games that are pirated first are console games.

-Again, the PC version feels very dated and the textures are HORRIBLE. It sucks they didn't spruce it up at all for PC seeing as many of the gamers to get it have way better systems then the 5-6 year old consoles.

    - CoD Elite. They touted it and touted it. Where is the PC version? Why is PC being shafted with a stripped down version. It's ****

    - Dedicated servers. We go them, yay! ... But, they are all uranked? What. The. **** Why in god's name would I ever play a non-ranked server? The game, like all games now is the reward. I like gaining XP and unlocking guns, levels and prestiges... but removing them from dedicated server? Stupid.

    - IWnet/P2P. This was the major complaint for MW2 and it returns in MW3. Having to play with someone who gets host and an advantage and deal with lag, and change of hosts and no way to deal with any cheaters is horrible and not fun. In a twitch shooter, every ms counts. If I'm lagging, I am going to be in a bid disadvantage. What was wrong with me being able to play on a dedicated server that was located near me and I wasn't lagging. IWNet/P2P, It's why I didn't put much more time in MW2. My first game after buying it was into a hacked lobby. Black Ops had optimization problems with dual cores, but man it played the best out of all the CoDs I've played so far. And we had RANKED DEDICATED SERVERS.

The single player was alright, but nothing memorable with it all. Same 'ol crap from the previous games.

World at War was released the following year, which I did not have high hopes for, considering it was made by a different developer. At first, I did not like it. I loved the campaign and Nazi Zombies, but not the multiplayer. However, after a fair bit of play time, I started to get into it, and by the time I had reached level 65, I loved it. The following year, I was very excited for Modern Warfare 2. I had been following it since the hour in which it was announced (no really, the hour). I went to the midnight launch, picked up the Prestige Edition and went home. I took the next day off and played it for 24 hours straight. I was absolutely in love with it. I also got this hyped about Black Ops, based on the recent history of my love affair with CoD. I once again went to the midnight launch, picking up the Prestige Edition. When I first started playing it, something was different. It just didn't feel like a CoD game. The only thing I liked about it was Zombies. I thought that the campaign was terrible, and no matter how much I played the multiplayer I could not get into it. After about a day of play time, I officially gave up on the multiplayer.

Earlier this year, Modern Warfare 3 was announced. Based on the disappointment of Black Ops, and the fact that due to layoffs, the multiplayer would be made by Raven Software, I did not have high hopes for this game at all. I did not bother with the midnight release, or even the Hardened Edition. In fact, this was the first CoD game since Call of Duty 4 that I did not buy on the release date. With the high number of friends playing this game, I decided to get it. I did not like the campaign, but Spec Ops was a lot of fun. When I first started playing the multiplayer, it didn't feel right. But it seemed that the more I played it, the more I started to enjoy it, even though I thought that CoD was dead when Black Ops was released. Well let me tell you something.

    CoD HAS BEEN REVIVED!!!!!!!

After extensively playing the multiplayer, I have once again fallen in love with CoD. The gameplay feels like a hybrid between Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, which I am really liking. The brand new strike packages are fantastic, and with the addition of the Specialist Strike Package, CoD is no longer all about killstreaks, like it was in Modern Warfare 2. There are a few overpowered guns, but since these are unlocked at early levels, the game is fairly balanced. The damage taken from explosives has been considerably reduced, which means you will see a lot less people running around with grenade launchers, like you did in Modern Warfare 2. Two new game modes have been added to Modern Warfare 3. These are Kill Confirmed and Team Defender. Kill Confirmed is similar to Team Deathmatch, but once an enemy is killed, they drop their dog tags, and the only way to score for your team is to collect those dog tags by walking into them. However, you can collect your fallen teammates dog tags to prevent an enemy from getting them. The other new mode, Team Defender, is once again similar to Team Deathmatch. It starts off with a flag in the middle of the map. Teams will start killing each other, just like in Team Deathmatch, but a kill is only worth 50 points instead of 100. The objective is for someone on your team to pick up the flag. While someone on your team has the flag, your team will gain 100 points per kill, making it easier to reach the score limit of 7500 points. However, if you have the flag, you will show up on the enemyâ

Multiplayer is the same old blah, run and gun, same thing over and over and over and over. It just didn't grab me like the past games. This round goes to BF3 in my opinion, far more to do, see, shoot and fun to be had.

The weapons in the game are accurate, the AI is for the majority of the game resplendent, and the levels are mapped exquisitely. While I agree that it doesn't add much of anything new to the series, it's still a really solid shooter. And while one can argue that it is MW2.5, and so forth, it's still pretty much what you'd expect from a SEQUEL. All I expected was a continuation of the story, some new characters, revisiting old characters, and a thrill of a campaign. This is what I expected, and its what I got. Sadly the graphics are getting outdated, and build upon the same engine used in COD4: MW. I'm reading some of the reviews from others on this site, and many of these say that the only good part is the story, yet they give it a 0. You'd think that would bump it up to a 2/10 at least. I am basing this review strictly from the single player and special ops, which are still good reasons to get the game. PROS:
    + Good story
    + Decent AI
    + Exquisite weapon design
    + Great sound design

    CONS:
    - Not much new content
    - Parts of the storyline become predictable

You get to choose between slightly different re-skins of the same gun, pretty much, because they're all equally bland and stiff to use.

There are no advanced physics to enhance dynamic gameplay, still no vehicles, and the killstreaks are more cheap than fun at this point. Who likes to join a match where half your team is just getting insta-killed by a helicopter above the map? Roll the dice. You might not randomly die, between the latency, the aim assist, and the 20 foot knives.

That's pretty much all this game is. Random death. Grenade spam, camping, quickscope abuse, and lag all contribute to one pathetic package of random death.

It gets 2 instead of 0 because it's a functional game, and not a pile of slag that nukes your HDD.

There is fun to be had in this game but it can get old rather quickly but this varies from person to person. Modern Warfare 3 is not a horrible and nearly unplayable game but at the same time it is not fantastic and was mostly over hyped. Let's start with the single player. As with the other Call of Duty games the single player is fairly short, lasting about 5 hours (maybe a little less) if you are playing on Recruit or Regular difficulty. On higher difficulties it could last about 6 to 8 hours. The story is a pay-off for the fans who stuck to Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare. This is the last Modern Warfare of the series. The story for the most part is decent although there are some plot holes that may leave you asking some questions. The campaign is very linear with you being told to follow Captain Price or other people. This is basically the game holding your hand and telling you what to do instead of finding your own way of getting from Point A to Point B. There is some variety however as you will sometime get to control a new weapon or gadget of some sort so the game doesn't feel like a shooting gallery from start to finish even though it is for the most part. The campaign is mostly a thrill ride. You will see and do things that to others seem awesome while others will feel that these epic moments simply fall flat on their faces but there are some "wow" moments that you may like a lot and will remember fondly from the campaign. Next is Spec-Ops. These are basically a series of challenges that you can do alone or with a friend. There is also a new endurance mode called Survival, which is similar to Nazi Zombies from other Call of Duty games except the zombies are soldiers and you must buy weapons from a crate with money you earn from killing enemies and vehicles instead of buying them from a wall. Like most endurance challenges from other games you must survive waves of enemies that continuously get stronger and harder to kill while the player must also make himself stronger by buying weapons and other things such as armor and killstreaks. However, most of these things are locked until you achieve a higher level. Your level in Spec Ops is separate from your level in multiplayer. So you must rank up by playing Spec Ops missions and playing Survival in order to access new guns, killstreaks, armor, etc. As for the missions, they are entertaining while at the same time frustrating. Some missions even let you play a bit of the campaign but from a different perspective. Overall, they are good. Especially when you're with a friend. Now for the meat of the game. The multiplayer. This is probably where your gonna spend most of your time playing this game. Take note that if you've played most of the other Call of Duties from Call of Duty 4 and after then don't expect a great deal of change from the other games. Multiplayer has improved in a few ways but has also become worse in others but the core of the game remains unchanged for the most part. There are plenty of varied game modes to play such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Headquarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, Demolition, Sabotage, and the new Kill Confirmed gametype. There are also Hardcore Mode and Mercenary variants of each gametype. Along with private matches which have a decent number of gametype customization options so that you can set up gametypes to have fun with friends. Theater mode makes a return from Black Ops where you can record film clips to share with friends and such. There is also the weapon proficiency which let's you level up your gun to earn new attachments, camos, and perks. This is better than Modern Warfare 2's way of getting attatchments and camos since you just have to level up the gun itself to get attachments and camos instead of using the gun in a specific way to get what you want. Such as killing people through walls with FMJ to get extended magazines for your assault rifle and getting headshots for camos. At the same time this is worse than Black Ops since most of the attachments and camos are preference. In Black Ops you could spend CoD Points to buy the attachment or camo that you want instead of leveling up for it. Killstreaks are split into strike packages. You have Assault, Support, and Specialist. Assault and Specialist work similarly where if you do good then you do better with momentum. Assault has killstreaks that work in an offensive manner while Specialist will give you additional perks of your choosing with kills. Support is self explanatory the only exception is that you have point streaks which carry over even after you die. There is some weapon imbalance but this can be fixed through patching. The multiplayer is enjoyable and sometimes addicting but you won't find much new. Expand

Modern Warfare 3 is indeed quite similar to Modern Warfare 2, but there are significant improvements. As with every Call of Duty game the visuals are fantastic. The physical graphics of the game look spectacular, standing to par with the top newest games with the exception of perhaps a game such as Battlefield 3. The frame rate is smooth as with every other COD game, but what sets MW3 apart from MW2 is that the set pieces at least appear larger, and there was clearly a higher emphasis on large scale battles with the amount of memorable sequences. Game play for MW3 is nearly identical to MW2 but with a new additions: Survival mode; missions in both the campaign, and Spec. Ops where you are the infamous Juggernauts; an unmanned, remotely controlled ground vehicle with a mini gun, and grenade launcher; and of course, a plethora of new weapons to play with. Now while there is some good, there is also some bad: the game play is very repetitive; as with every COD there is a large amount of players on-line who simply take COD far too seriously, ruining the experience of others; and while the story is epic, due to the fact that the two lead developers in Infinite Ward have been laid off, a great deal of the feel, and emotion behind COD has diminished, making the action sequences less engaging, and less heart stopping then the other MW games.
Now to score the game a 6 is fair. Why so many individuals are rating the game a 0 is ridiculous and childish. To give it a 0 means that the game would not be playable at all, that it burns your eyes out, and u lose when u press start. On the other hand to rate it an 8 of higher is also ridiculous as to give it that score would mean the game has new exciting features that grip you and pull you in, and anything that was perfected before is still perfect. Because the scale is 1-10, that means that a 5 is average. Not bad, not good, but average. MW3 is slightly better then average as all COD games have been. Why everyone is ripping on the game and giving it 0!!!! is beyond me. Its childish, its ridiculous, and its not showing a fair representation to the game.

I borrowed this game from a friend to "test the waters" before I went out to buy it, and I'm glad I did. I'll start of with the campaign. Me personally, I didn't like campaign at all. It seemed to be made for children with severe ADHD because it's filled with constant explosions, unnecessary violence and you become desensitized to the whole experience quickly. I shot down 6 helicopters in the first half hour of playing the campaign, and because of that it's really hard to feel any speck of sympathy when something unfortunate happens to one of the main characters who you've followed since MW1. But that's not the only thing wrong with the campaign, the enemies still don't know how to cover properly, the friendly's who are supposed to help you don't do much other than get in the way of your firing line and the story doesn't make any sense what so ever so you'll be playing for the sake of playing it. Also they've implemented the ideas which I loathed so much from Black ops, like the slow motion scenes which ruined the pace and is just an unnecessary playable cut scene and a desperate attempt to make the campaign longer. Now next up is the graphics. If you played the first modern warfare, compared it to modern warfare 3, you won't be able to notice any real significant changes. It's 2012 soon and looking at games like Battlefield 3, skyrim, or even gears of war 3, you'll see what you're missing out on, and console limitations is no excuse. Now for the multiplayer. Multiplayer has more or less the same basic concepts as the previous games including the same problems as before but they've changed the whole idea of killstreaks. It's now called "Strike Packages". And you get a choice of 3. Assault is the standard, get as many kills without dying to get rewarded we're all used to. Support is get as many kills as you can before the game ends without your kill count being reset to 0 when you die. And specialist is the same as assault but you unlock perks as your rewards. Now if you play multiplayer for an hour you'll realise how unbalanced the multiplayer now is. You can forget about specialist as you'll always feel left out when everyone else is calling in a heavily armed robot or predator missiles and getting a bunch of kills in one go. Sniping is still as poor as the previous games due to the maps being small, tight and the same altitude you have to resort to quickscoping. You can't "quickscope" in real life, so you shouldn't be forced to quickscope in a military game when you're not used to it. Forget about hardscoping you'll never get a kill that way because you'll always be too close to the enemy and dead before you can even fire the second shot. But that isn't the only problem. Spawn killing is still as bad as it was, the maps are insanely small and tight leaving you to lone wolf, meaning playing with friends impossible because you'll have no choice but to separate and go your own way anyway. Also, if you didn't buy this game on day 1, forget about multiplayer because too many people have found the blind spots for camping in every map and you'll be put in the same games as players who've prestige'd 4 times over by now. I don't know about you but getting killed over and over by barely taking 4 steps forward after respawning isn't my definition of fun.
Now if you're looking for new original "killstreaks", you'll be disappointed. Most of the rewards are copied from previous games. For example the "advanced UAV" is just a nerfed version of the blackbird from Black ops. I thought this was supposed to be set in the near future? Why does a game set during the Vietnam war have a more powerful killstreak than the "advanced UAV" here? It's just poor and unimaginative, and you can tell they're running out of ideas.

All in all, I'm not impressed at all. I agree with many people that this game should have been modern warfare 2. If you never played a COD game before, I'd say this is probably worth your time. But if you own black ops or MW2, or even MW1 look elsewhere. This is just a low budget scheme by Activision to milk the name as much as they can.

I write this review to voice my opinion on the matter of this games technical quality, yet very poor user score. I personally will not rate this game high because like many of the others who have played or are currently playing MW3 after having played Modern Warfare 1 and 2, the game does not stand up. I can only imagine how a professional critic handles judging title after title, but II write this review to voice my opinion on the matter of this games technical quality, yet very poor user score. I personally will not rate this game high because like many of the others who have played or are currently playing MW3 after having played Modern Warfare 1 and 2, the game does not stand up. I can only imagine how a professional critic handles judging title after title, but I would assume it comes with some matter of detachment from the games they review. When I see Modern Warfare 3 I see what should be the sequel to Modern Warfare 1 and 2, not looking at it as a stand alone game but a continuation. My only guess is that a critic can review it highly as if it were a game of any other title, yet users stand firm in their belief that something is definitely not right . In the multiplayer game mode, veterans of MW will notice many similarities, but some basic game play tweaks that bring very odd changes to the modern warfare world. When crouched in every other game players can move silently to make stealth kills, adding a bit of strategy to what otherwise devolves into a mindless firefight. MW3, for whatever reason, had very audible movement sound no different than running when the player went prone or crouching when I played. A small change, but the first of many that most experienced fans of the series will notice. Weapons feel familiar but where every other game made them feel unique, I only felt slight differences between many of them in terms of how they handle and shoot. The look of the weapons seemed to take precedence over balance and polish. Not many may notice such a change, buy a lot of fans of MW series can automatically tell something is wrong. Some weapons are even unusable for the purpose that they were intended, a few of the side arms in particular. Almost everything about playing the game seems to indicate that flash and flair, along with some advertising for firearms manufacturers, was the primary focus. This is the only way I can justify a side arm being pulled up to fire, but instead being treated to a 2 second animation of the already loaded weapon getting the magazine put back in. The small time frame of being vulnerable may seem petty to some, but a quick draw is the main reason for having such a side arm. After dying more times than I can count during the pretty magazine flair, I had to learn two things: to never use that particular gun again, and that 2 seconds in a fast paced FPS means a lot more than you might think. The single player campaign fairs better than the multiplayer, but still suffers from the rest. The many user reviews of the story feeling stale or uninspired do not lie, and many of the 'twists and surprises' of the story feel predictable and some even come off as cheap. Where previous titles may change the player from different persona to another on occasion, MW3 feels like it uses this character swap as a plot point, changing characters in such a way that it seemed entirely unjustified or even boring at times. It became hard to care about some of the cast after a while, part of the player thinking they'll just swap to another persona after a few minutes and will never see them again anyway. This among other plot turns made it difficult for myself and others to really get into the story the same way we did with MW2 and the first Modern Warfare in particular. The game itself is not terrible, but then again I am not a professional critic. The game as a sequel is very off putting, and old time fans of modern warfare will notice very obvious and strange changes, ones that make the gamer question their methods and thought process when making the game. I can only attribute the subtle tone of change to the fact that the studio Infinity Ward (IW) lost a good chunk of their senior staff when there was a falling out between Activision and then heads of IW, leading to two original founders of IW to be fired. Shortly after, a handful of senior employees and friends of the two followed in their footsteps which has led to a void in the company that has yet to be filled nor may ever be. These all feel like lessons well learned during the development of the first two games in the series (excluding all of the other CoD games, in which similar lessons must also have come up) and I can only imagine they are surfacing now due to the dramatic change in development and production the series has been put through. I would like to say that IW having a lot of their original staff moving on didn't change the quality of the franchise any, but I would be lying if I did. As a stand alone game of a different title, perhaps the user score would better match the critics. But as a sequel to a beloved series, the game fails all the loyal fans who came to expect a certain polish and refinement that Modern Warfare became known for. TL:DR The best way I can justify giving this game a 0 is as such, I bought MW3 and played it. I sold it, and now play MW2. Expand

There are so many issues that I won't be able to cover them all, even with a 5000 character limit, but I've had people spawn in front/behind me, spawnkilled an infinite number of times and had major issues with lag and hit detection. It's a real shame, since this could be a really good game but I'd instead recommend sticking to Modern Warfare 2 until the next game comes out, providing it isn't another copy/paste title like this is. And to be fair, I don't mind about it being more of the same, it's a formula that works to some extent, but they've got it all wrong in terms of weapon balance, map design... The list goes on. I don't think a single score would be entirely representative, so I'd give Spec-Ops mode a 7.5, Campaign an 8.5 and Multiplayer a 2. Providing it stays as it is and Infinity Ward refuse to patch it, as they've done with MW2...
This is an updated review, and I have lowered the score to compensate for the distinct lack of promise for any fixes. It's like they just can't be bothered to fix online multiplayer at all, and people have noted that a great internet speed makes the game run much better. When I play a game online, I'd rather it be a test of skill rather than who can buy the fastest internet, but maybe that's just me.

However, there are so many tiny flaws. First off, the PC version looks exactly like console and the FOV is locked at 55 degrees (terrible) unless you use 3rd party software. Besides that, it plays so similar to MW2. There are no real changes to multiplayer. Yes they brought back death streaks, but those aren't new, and strike packages are just kill streaks with different rewards. The UI looks pretty much the same and they've actually reused old content. The lack of new or innovative content is pathetic. Survival is OK, I'll admit, but its certainly similar to zombies, but you're limited to 2 people, otherwise it all comes down to personal preference. The multiplayer is also pretty imbalanced. Most of the guns early on pale in comparison to later unlocks, and most shotguns and LMGs are pretty bad, except the last ones you unlock. I won't go into every imba gun, but there are a few and they all take time to get, which sucks. Campaign is OK, if linear, but that's pretty much what all FPS campaigns do nowadays.

To round it up: Multiplayer and PC version is sub-par, the only redeeming factors for the game is the story, if you've followed it or care, and spec ops, which is only really fun with friends.

Not impressed at all! No thought or Balance in Slightest, the map layouts are terrible along with the Graphics I thought the game was supposed to get better every year instead its went backwards, Competitive Call of Duty gamer since Cod 4 and I feel badly ripped off and betrayed and disgusted by activision/infinity ward. MW3 has been a real let down!! and I will be trading it in like many others.

I'll start by saying I am a fan of CoD 4, MW2, and slightly WaW, and I disagree with anyone saying this is an expensive DLC. Unfortunately, it's much worse than that. I'll start with maps, they're atrocious. They're randomly scattered, disgusting looks, dull, flat, and horribly small, actually I timed how long it takes to run around the biggest MW3 map to MW2 wasteland and favela.I'll start by saying I am a fan of CoD 4, MW2, and slightly WaW, and I disagree with anyone saying this is an expensive DLC. Unfortunately, it's much worse than that. I'll start with maps, they're atrocious. They're randomly scattered, disgusting looks, dull, flat, and horribly small, actually I timed how long it takes to run around the biggest MW3 map to MW2 wasteland and favela. Wasteland was approx 2.5x bigger and favela was 1.3-5x bigger, pathetic. The perks, there are only 3 new ones, of which all are essentially useless and one, recon, was basically just copied off of rival Battlefield series. The other 2 are even very innovative and their pro versions are old perks. The guns, yes the guns are basically the same, but thats not what I'm complaining about because theyre based off real guns of which there are limited variants. Whats frustrating is the complete lack of balance, actually scratch that, theres balance in the fact that every gun kills in two shots except for a couple which are just useless. Also for some reason they decided to make machine pistols more powerful than most other guns in the game, really? The sniping is awkward to say the least, and I'm a sniper, it was my most used gun in every COD to date, even though you can zoom in faster, the way it does is honestly just odd and unweildy. Not to mention the snipers are just plain ugly. There are no new attachments except for the hybrid scope which doesnt count because its just combining two old attachments, the kill streaks are basically the same except for juggernaut which really is a stupid killstreak. But they decided to make the support strike package, a kill streak which doesnt reset when you die and has most of the best features, great idea sledgehammer... Because advanced UAV is in this package, if you hated ghost in BO youll die in MW3, with a blackbird up about 80-90% of the time and UAV 100%, assassin and blind eye are essential. Oh and finally the gamemodes, they added one new one, kill confirmed, which is my least favorite of them all including CTF... how has Call of Duty thought of 1 new game type in 5 years? I dont understand. The only reason I gave this a 1 is because the campaign is mildly entertaining and does bring everything together and once and for all end the game, however it is extremely cliche, predictable and uneventful, theres no mission that is distinct nor that I would replay several times such as the sniper missions/ ac-130 from COD 4 and multiple stealth/white house/ final mission of MW2. And lastly, it uses the same engine as COD 4, the best selling game in the world, it outsold harry potter... can't make a new engine, wow, just wow. Dont buy and if you already have, dont buy elite its pointless, go buy Skyrim, Batman, Halo CE anniversary, Rage, Gears 3, Battlefield 3, Dead Island, or wait for Mass Effect 3. With this plethora of great games this year why would one even consider MW3? Expand

The main problems I have with this game and the reason why I've scored it a 6 is because of the multiplayer which is ironically what is most hyped part of the call of duty franchise. The problem is that it is extremely frustrating at times because other people will simply stay at the spawn areas and kill you off quickly or take advantage of the various glitches that are present within the games maps and the people with the weakest connection always seem to have the advantage due to lag shooting. Overall I would say this is a decent package with a fun but short campaign and a fun spec ops mode you can play online, just don't expect any fair play in the competitive multiplayer side. Expand

I believe this is the worst multiplayer in COD history. fourzerotwo promised a lot of changes and it got me excited. So I was very disappointed when none of those promises were kept, with exception they noobtubes were nefred, which made me mad, because they werent even that annoying. If someone chooses to go like 30-1 with one man army noobtubes, so be it, why should the commentators on youtube really affect what happens. All of the mw2 commentators complained about this, when they did themselves. I did it and thought it was fun. The graphics were not very good. I liked the high quality detail of black ops. This game was an overall disappointment, I thought that this game was going to be awesome and the best, but its basically mw2.5, I mean, theres not really that big of a difference really, same engine, same guns, same attachments, same developer, one was less fun and not worth $60 and your time.

While it has many similarities to MW2, the new features are pretty nice. Having separate weapon and player XP scores is a nice change and the structure of weapons skills, perks, and attachments is a good improvement.

The multiplayer maps got stale quick. While they're all tolerable for the most part, I cannot wait for the map packs to start dropping.

Having support and specialist killstreak rewards is also a good improvement, IMO. The fact that gettign objectives done in addition to kills count towards killstreaks is nice, too.

Overall, this game is about what I was expecting. Multiplayer is fun and it is easy to sit down to play two quick matches and suddenly realize it's five hours later. There is a good variety of weapons and playing with different ones yields varying results, so there's probably something that all players can get used to using primarily. The promise of new maps is what is keeping me playing right now.

The only thing that drives me nuts is the juggernaut killstreak reward. It's BS.

This patch hasn't been scheduled for release and never will be.

If you can't tell, there are plenty of things which could be fixed with this game as far as the multiplayer gameplay is concerned, but to date have yet to be addressed. The patches which have been released have done nothing to improve overall playability (if they were even patches at all, most people can't even see or feel a difference). I've stopped playing this all-together and am sorely upset that I spent over $100 on the weakest, most overhyped game in COD history. Please don't make the same mistake millions have made. Honestly, the campaign is a campaign, I dont think it needs a rating since ofcourse it's a wild ride, crazy scenes, and explosive events. But the multiplayer? I am a devotee of this game and MW2 and MW1. I love hardcore team deathmatch to get the realism of one shot one kill, or 2 shots and a kill. Loading up a person with bullets and they dont die is just not fun or realistic to me. So what about this hardcore mode and why did i rate it so bad? Compared to MW2, this one is just terrible. I'll start with the maps. EVERY ONE of the maps are close quarters, small, and clustered. Some can be a little larger, but with all the trash in them, they become close quarters. As a huge fan of sniping and allowing more distance, I am extremely disappointed. I dont mind a few close quarter maps, but on MW3, they are ALL close quarters. There is maybe one map that you can snipe on effectively. My fav map from the last game was Wasteland. I am so disappointed that they forgot all about the sniping in this game and settled only for close quarters. So there is strike number 1.
So what else? How about the spawning. In the last game, it was possible to understand the maps, understand the general area a team was spawning so you could form a plan or hold down/attach one side of the map. The spawning is so general and random in this, you can think you have a corder of the map locked down, then they will spawn someone right behind you. Or they will spawn you right next to a group of enemies. I think this is a great way of spawning for Free For All, but NOT team based games. I cant count the amount of times that I got killed from behind in an area of the map where there is no way someone could have got behind me. They were spawned there. very very irritating. I really enjoyed being able to formulate a strategy in the last game, but it is impossible in this one with the random spawning and the clustered maps. I URGE THE DEVELOPERS to take a look at the stats. Compare the average person's life on this game to the last game. I bet it is drastically less because of the map size and close quarters spawning. It is just not fun. Again.... it would be perfect for free for all, but NOT FOR TEAM DEATHMATCH. So that is strike 2.
And finally... while the other game had this issue too, im seeing it more in this one. Bullet lag. Several times a match I will die when i get into the clutch with someone else, even point blank. Clearly my weapon fires, I can see the my muzzle blast and hear my gun fire, yet im the only one to die. and it's point blank so theres no way to possibly miss. It just doesn't make sense to me how something like that can still be an issue. The only thing i can think of is they still have that bullet lag issue, where to me it appears that I shot either first or at the same time, but to the other guy, he shot first, or to the system he show and may have already killed me, but to me, I am still alive and can shoot, but my kill doesnt count. only my death. So that is strike 3. I sincerely regret purchasing Elite Premium. Their service has failed in so many ways already, from it's launch to it's lack of fulfilling promises. I can overlook the bullet lag as i did with the last one, but the random spawning and lack of variety in maps just kills me. I will try out BF3 (again, ive been a devoted MW fan), If BF3 appears to be better in these areas as I've read, I'll be a lifetime fan of them from then on. For shame on MW3, InfinityWard, Sledgehammer, and all the like. You lost a fan because you were narrow minded and all about the short game (pun intended). Next time try for some map variety and intelligent spawns that allow for gameplay strategies to occur. I used to be a big Ghost Recon fan, but thought after how good MWF has been doing, i dont see why I'd go back... but thanks to MW3. I eagerly await trying BF3 and Ghost Recon (when it comes out) for the variety that i love. So long MW3, you crapped on your fans for a narrow minded result . "You'll love our game, as long as you love what we love" sounds like "you buy a car in any color you want, as long as you want black". Lack of choice is a killer.

I´ve been trying to forgive SOME of the problems this game has, since its a new game and all. But there are too much stuff in here that are so wrong and aren´t changed. First off, a game of this magnitude really should have not come out in this state- There are to much lag and latency in the game to let this just pass bye You get killed behind walls and other hard walls. On your end of the line your far behind the wall, BUT when you do look at the killcam feature in the game you can clearly see that you where far away frrom that wall that you thought you got behind to take cover.

Thats just some of the problems, And they do still, after 2 years since mw 2, have problems with Over-powered guns. What I am most disappointed in is the both the developers did promise on E3 June 2011 that they were not going to include shotguns, second chance and other perks that player over the years have learnt to hate.

Don´t get me wrong on this, the games singleplayer part is fantastic, like a really intense action movie. But that is just 6 hours of gameplay, Is the game really worth 60$ for 6 hours of entertainment?

Based on my experiense with the game I would not recomment people to get this game, atleast not when its 60$, Its really not worth that much for the 6 hours singelplayer, and its certainly is not worth that kind of money for the multiplayer part.

And one more thing, who would wanna pay for MW 2,5?

Spec Ops is some what entertaining, but it will not be the mode you play the most and will probably only play it once or twice and get tired of it.
New single player, but most people buying first person shooters aren't looking for single player, and mainly looking for multiplayer to play with your friends.
What isn't new? Well, I have seen a lot of similar guns in the past Call of Duty.
The maps are very similar, and for some reason every time I get in one, I feel like I have played it numerous times before on a previous CoD.
The graphics are obviously not new, which this may be good in your case if you have a bad graphics card and can not handle games like Skyrim. In my case, it is bad.
The sounds of the guns are not that great, sounds in general isn't that great.

Back to what is new subject, I doubt they put $60 worth of effort into a new single player (which not many people care about), a new game mode which could be coded easily, and a few new guns.
My advise is just wait until Modern Warfare 3 goes to a lower price.

They robbed me from my money, but I will make sure not to buy another one.

The only reason this CoD community has continued on, is from all the middle school kids having their friends play it, so they want to play it and believe it is a good game worth getting.

Final point; If you are 15+ I would suggest you go get another first person shooter because you will not enjoy the community in CoD games, constant kids yelling and screaming, not a good community.
If you are a 8-14 age, I suggest you should get this because you would probably enjoy it.

But this was the strongest point of the entire game, the Spec Ops was boring and has no replay value whatsoever, the Spec Ops survival mode is fun but only for a few hours. I must say though there seems to be a little more variety to the Spec Ops missions. But graphically; it's the EXACT same, the gun skins are the same for guns that were in previous COD games, and the way the weapons feel they don't feel right. The multiplayer however has been tweaked a little; the adding of strike packages. The strike packages are killstreak rewards but more varied as you have up to a total of 3 to choose from:
    -Support
    -Assault
-Specialist For support everytime you help your team out in some way you get a point to go towards your killstreak (this could be capturing a flag or defusing a bomb, killing people etc). The Assault is just like your standard COD games, when you get a kill that goes towards your killstreak reward but when you die it resets. Then there is the Specialist which is the same as Assault but this time when you get to 1 of your killstreak rewards you get a perk easy enough? When you die that gets reset just like the Assault strike package. These offer new ways to play but don't really work for me as everyone uses the support strike package because it doesn't reset when you die. In the way of game modes they've added 1 new game mode and kept the rest in which I though was very disappointing, I was expecting at least 3-4 different game modes the one game mode is called 'Kill Confirmed'. It works very similar to normal TDM but there's a twist; when you kill someone they drop a dogtag, run over to the dogtag to pick it up the first to a certain score wins. This mode just feels rushed and VERY similar to Crysis 2s' killstreak system.

While the single player campaign is short but fun the rest of the game feels flat out boring, I would recommend getting the game when it comes down in price (if that will ever happen). Let's hope Treyarchs' game next year offers more that MW3.

And is it worth your $60? If you're a hardcore fan of the franchise, maybe. But if you come expecting lots of new and exciting stuff that will make sure you get your moneys worth you'll probably be left feeling unsatisfied. Modern Warfare 3 might have a new coat of paint on it as opposed to MW2, but at its core it is borderline identical. The spawning system is still horrendous, despite how hard Infinity Ward and the other developers of them game have apparently been working to correct them. When I still played this title spawning next to enemies (and I literally mean one maybe two feet away) was a regularity in Free-For-All. It even made its way into team based game modes that could allow you to spawn right in the path of an enemy attack only to die seconds later. There are still overpowered weapons, annoying campers that refuse to leave their corner with a claymore by it,and immature children that shouldn't be even playing the game to begin with. Plus there's more killstreaks that are rather overpowered and MORE DEATHSTREAKS. Robert Bowling, you're a lying pr*ck. You said that Last Stand was no longer in the game, but Final Stand (instead of a pistol you get your primary weapon... freaking lovely...) still remains! As well as Martrydom and the brand new and ridiculous Dead Man's Hand. Another thing to note about this game is that they're still using fake guns and and the same reload animations for almost every one. For the fake guns, I mean the ones that aren't licensed. One of which is the L86 LSW (returning from MW2). That gun does not exist, it is actually the L85A2 which ironically is officially licensed in Battlefield 3. Same goes for the "Barrett .50 Cal". There is no such thing! The real Barrett weapon in the game is the M82A1, but I guess they still can't get the licensing even after 5 or so years. LAME.

As for other aspects of the game, the few new ones there are, they aren't half bad. Some Proficiencies for guns were useful, but some of them were borderline pointless. I don't see why they even bothered to have a Proficiency named Kick to reduce recoil when almost all of the guns people use have next to no real recoil at all. One admittedly good addition was Spec Ops Survival. Survival is based off of the tried and truly fun wave based survival game mode that has been featured in countless games over the years. While it is fun, the co-op is less that enjoyable at times. I tried playing with other friends, close to around 10 matches in total, and around half of them died half way through because of faulty connections that killed the match for no good reason. Plus, when not host, it is truly felt. When I was playing with a friend that typically has a 4 Bar connection I felt like I had a 3 or 2 bar connection making killing enemies a bit more of a source of pain than fun.

Another key topic for this new game is the direct usage of the new CoD ELITE service. This allows users to have new levels of playing, clans, contests for real prizes, and if you're a premium member (which has a costly fee) other things such as getting all map packs for "free" and available vastly earlier than non-premium users. Although I do have a bone to pick with Elite. While I am not a PS3 player, I must say I am truly miffed about Xbox 360 users still getting the map packs before PS3 players even when a lot of PS3 players likely bought their premium membership for the express purpose to be on even ground with the 360 users. Seriously Activision, you REALLY f*cked up there. One of the last things I'll discuss is the campaign. The campaign is arguably one of the best parts of MW3, being filled with plenty of large scale set pieces and a fairly good story. But like the multiplayer, I wasn't entirely satisfied. I more so played through it just to burn some free time rather than actually wanting to play through for the enjoyment of the story.

All in all, compared to other shooters released this year, MW3 is a very sub-par game. It lacks significant new content, it's almost identical to the last two call of Duty iterations, and it's still frustrating to no end. And to those who are competent, you may find that it can be incredibly easy to win. So easy that winning becomes boring. That's right, Call of Duty managed to make winning BORING. *slow clap* Well done, Call of Duty. You achieved something which nothing should ever do. Rating 4/10

I made an account just to voice my opinion on how bad this game is. And it is that MW3 is what kills COD. This game is truly the worst thing I have ever played in a long time. Stick to game developers that don't rehash the same ole same ole to turn a profit. Do not buy.

I do have to say that in general; I have grown to dislike the Call Of Duty franchise. I was a big fan of COD4 and liked MW2 at the time, but the series's knack for regurgitating the same formula on me every year made me start to move away and play better things (Battlefield?).

I have no time at all for the Treyarch entries and never have done but I've always been curious about what the next Modern Warfare game would be like (although I expected virtually nothing new at all).
I expected to hate it, then somebody bought it for me as a Christmas present. I just finished the campaign and I have to say that even though it still feels like Call Of Duty 4 (in every single way), I was somewhat satisfied with it. I enjoyed how the story continued from the previous games and it helped me kill a few hours.

However I have to say that the multiplayer is exactly what I expected and worse; a montage of complete chaos; requiring virtually zero skill, poor (and repetitive) voiceovers, yet more messy killstreak (or 'pointstreak') rewards and pathetically dated animation (try and watch another player sprint, without laughing out loud). In general it feels like the multiplayer experience has gone backwards since COD4, if anything.

Activision need to learn that improving on a game's multiplayer does not just mean adding extra things to the previous year's game. It requires new modes, new features, new challenges, new possibilities and in this case; a completely new engine (how they are still getting away with using the COD4 engine is beyond me).

On the whole, there is SOMETHING enjoyable about MW3. Is it worth the hype that gaming publications have given it?
    -No.

Is it worth the ridiculously high scores that gaming publications have given it?
    -Absolutely not.

Is it worth a user score on 3.2 here on Metacritic?
    -Perhaps.

Does this franchise need to be rebuilt from scratch?
    -Absolutely.

I'm giving this a 5.0 because the campaign was indeed fun for me, but if not for that then I would be giving this a 0. It's nothing more than an expansion pack and I would have indeed been hugely disappointed if I had invested £40 in this game, just to find out that I had received an expansion pack for a very old game (CO4). Activision and their subsidiaries need to hear the message and hear it clear; 'START CREATING VIDEO GAMES AGAIN AND STOP COPYING AND PASTING THE PREVIOUS GAME EACH AND EVERY YEAR. IMPRESS US AGAIN, LIKE YOU DID WITH CALL OF DUTY 4. SHOW US THAT YOU CAN STILL PRODUCE A FRESH AND ORIGINAL TITLE'.

    That is all.

I notice that they've done a good job of making the game fairer for everyone, which is why the 'good' players are getting unhappy because they don't win all the time. I like the class setups, and how you can have different killstreaks assigned to different classes; nice touch there. However I'm not a huge fan of the failure that is 'extreme conditioning'. Yes I understand no-one can have unlimited sprint realistically, but the amount of sprint extreme conditioning gives is pathetic! I would like to see this buffed up a bit. Also MW3 lacks a few great features from Black Ops, for example combat training: a great way to play the game and enjoy it because you can just set it to easy and relax, and also it's good for those who suffer from terrible internet (e.g Me)! Also Black Ops had way more ways to customise custom game modes, for example you could edit perks' effects, which was awesome.
Overall this game is good, all the singleplayer is fairly mediocre, they've done a good job of making multiplayer more equal, but the game just lacks that snappiness, that edge that MW2 had which made the gameplay so much faster and action-packed.

Most of the people that bought it, bought MW2, BO, and MW3 for the hype. MW2 wasn't too bad, but it was horribly unbalanced. Black Ops wasn't unbalanced THAT MUCH but it did have game breaking flaws and I got bored with it after a few weeks. MW3 though...sad but true, this game DOES NOT live up to the hype. The store isn't as good as the previous ones, survival doesn't feel to be such a big change and this could of been DLC for MW2 for $15. The multiplayer...how can I say this? Well...it's not what we all expected. It's not unbalanced as MW2, but it's more unbalanced than Black Ops. The spawn system, after YEARS, is still horrible. The weapons overall are still as easy and powerful as ever. Most, if not all, have perfect accurate and little to no recoil. If you want a challenge, Modern Warfare 3 won't give it to you. The killstreaks, now called point streaks, are unbalanced as well. Some are horrible and require a ridiculously high amount of kills/points to obtain. Some are just TOO DAMN GOOD and TOO DAMN EASY to obtain. You still have the typical Call of Duty players as well. Half of the players will be trying to do 360 no scopes and trick shots or half of the players will be camping on a dark corner. The map design is just bad. Horrible. The sound design is just as bad. You feel like you're shooting a stapler and not a weapon. The game doesn't promote as much teamwork as I thought it would. There's more, but not enough. 70-80% of the players still just go for the kills and don't care about the objective. There's also no dedicated servers. Hundreds of millions of dollars, but yet they can't make dedicated servers. This is how lazy and careless the makers of this franchise are.

I think the worst thing in the game, well in the series, is the community. It makes me want to puke. The game is supposed to be M for mature and not K for kiddy land. Half of the players are little kids, one third are complete jerks and, excuse my language, complete **** I know every game is bound to have them, but wow. Call of Duty has the worse fanbase in gaming.

I do play the game once or twice a week, but I'd rather be playing previous Call of Duty titles simply because they added more punch for your buck even though they had an enormous amount of game breaking flaws.

This game is NOT Mw2.5, but it's NOT Mw3. I give it a 6/10. Does not live up to the hype, developers are lazy and greedy, map design and sound design are horrible, unbalanced, good story line but not better than the previous, slightly more balanced than Mw2 but still unbalanced, community is horrible and last but not least, Call of Duty Elite. Now you can see how greedy these guys are.

Another thing why is there no hardcore free for all when it was such a fan favorite in previous titles, and why did the hardcore team death match not have ricochet (where you can't kill your team mates) from the start when in Black ops they finally decided to add it to stop people from team killing the whole game. Why has it taken so long for them to get Elite up and running like they said they would in regards to clan competitions. Aside from these problems MW3 is one of the most polished shooters on the market and fans of the series will feel right at home. I would just like to see a map pack with more than 1 or 2 maps in it, I know they spread it out so Elite members would feel like they are getting something every month like they promised but even with releasing 1 or 2 maps a month the game is starting to feel stale quick. The campaign was alright if not a bit hard to follow but I defiantly wasn't as impressed with it as I was in the previous two. Why improve a game when they can slap a fresh paint of coat on it and break even more sales records than the one before. How about releasing a map pack with 5 favorites from older versions just a sign of good faith to the audience that has supported them from day 1, I think its an insult to people who bought elite to say sorry we haven't made Elite the experience we promised but thanks for your fifty bucks here's a prestige token. Who is checking ID's when they sell these games, there are way to many 12yr olds and younger on this game, but who hell am to say.....Right? The most Claustrophobic maps I have ever seen in my life, great for all the campers, because this game went from FPS, to a game of hide and go seek. All around disappointed by IW, for this DLC........???.......WHAT IT'S A FULL GAME. MW2.5 sucks...alot. I really like the COD franchise but the is BS, going to go buy Battlefield or go back to play BO. Expand

I managed a 3.0 k/d ratio and hit my 6th prestige before I got bored with this game and traded it in. The game play is as fast and fun as it ever has been. The problem lies in that same concept though. It's more of the same. To be clear here: I don't even like Battlefield 3. The game tried too hard to be like CoD. The maps for MP are not scaled properly and seem too empty. Neither offering was all that impressive this time around.

There's many Call of Duty games that were great, this is the exact opposite of greatness in every way.
Firstly:The graphics have not improved at all, they are the exact same or worse than Modern Warfare 2, there were little or no changes to the graphics.
Secondly:Gameplay, the game play is just absolutely -terrible-, I think I should point out that a person can 360 no scope with a bolt

Secondly:Gameplay, the game play is just absolutely -terrible-, I think I should point out that a person can 360 no scope with a bolt action rifle can get a head shot with no problem. That is terrible.Just plain out terrible. And again, another example of what can happen during multiplayer gameplay, a person with a riot shield, can just aim at a helicopter and have -ALL- of the bullets that were shot by the helicopter, reflect back into the helicopter, I want to point out that RlCb30 ((What a real riot shield is made of)) would've broken by the 3rd shot, due to helicopters shooting high caliber bullets, the shield would just break into pieces and your corpse would be torn apart.
Take it from me, this game is the absolute definition of terrible.
Also the campaing is just watered down from Modern Warfare 2.

This game is just terrible. It's basically a DLC for MW2 that costs $60. The guns are terrible, the maps suck, the spawns don't make sense and every gun has Instakill built in. Everyone camps for killstreaks and no one plays the objective, it's sad to see what has happened to the call of duty franchise. Hopefully, Treyarch can improve these problems in Black Ops 2.

Ok lets face it, MW1 was a great game, but enough is enough. Selling the same game with new maps every year for 6 years killed this series. Ive been a fan since call of duty 1 (way before MW1) and i feel there is no creativity in this game anymore. Zero innovation. Great job Activision you just fragged another great game.

While the multiplayer delivers it eventually starts to feel like the same game as the others it feels as though all the guns do the same thing and the campaign is exciting but very short the deathstreaks and perks ruin the multiplayer and it loses it's replayablity spec ops is exactly the same as before and survival mode is less then impressive downgrade of zombies

I only bought this game for the PC but had the privlege of playing this game on both console versions (xbox 360 and ps3). It works as a game but again, like the ps3 game design barely functions and unstable and very laggy and messy multiplayer. To make sure my relative's version that I borrowed wasn't simply a bad copy/version I hired it as well and there were game crashes present, hackers which I didn't expect to be fixed over the half a year period I didn't have the game since I last borrowed it and over-expensive map packs. I can understand paying on the xbox version but PC it should've at least been free after all the trouble we had - never the less the dlc is actually good on consoles but little-no content for a lot of money which is a negative. The xbox version also crashes more frequent than the ps3 - which is to be expected as the console is using outdated hardware compared to both/simultaneously ps3 and pc. Since the ps3 and xbox versions function the same I'll give the same, generous rating. 2/10. Mass Effect 3 changed their game and listened to fans, why can't MW 3 - and they're wondering why their getting low ratings and want people to boost their game back up - we're being honest, I am at least. You can't call all of us neg. reviewers trolls though and even if we all are a low score is something to be concerned about in the least and maybe action to fix/remedy the situation should be considered.

I will give this a 3 because the single player was fun. But the rest of the game is a copy paste job from MW2
Not worth the full admission price at all. Save your money for Black ops 2 if your not interested in the story.

This is the first Call of Duty game that I've really played since Modern Warfare 1 so I can't really comment on what it seems to be the repetitiveness of this series.. I'm talking about the people who run around with the riot shield and picking the right moment to light you up. Don't know why, but I find it funny and I'm the one who always die to those people. The now disavowed S.A.S team TF141 containing a dying Soap, Cpt Price and Nikolai must attack the ultranationalists at tier core so the world can see another day. The game continues to use the same gameplay techniques from 2007's Call of Duty 4 which have long become stale and overused, the franchise has no right to remain in action after such an appalling attempt at making a game. Maybe its time Call of Duty should bite the bullet and let a more deserving title take centre stage. Expand

The good game modes are abandoned like Capture the Flag but Team Deathmatch and Free For All are overplayed, which involve no real strategy. The DLC is a rip off, like all the CoD's 20 dollars for 4-5 maps is a waste of money, compared to games like Uncharted 3, Halo 3, Borderlands and Red Dead Redemtion offer more value for money and CoD elite is another joke, it charges you for getting a "tactical advantage" which any other game would give to to you for free like Rockstar Games Social Club and Killzone.com. I really suggest you do not pick up CoD MW3, save your hard earned money, don't let it go to waste. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
