I am overall pleased with the weapons and the killstreaks and such, although they do seem a bit worse than the MW2 system, so i give those a 5. The maps and servers however are terrible. The lag is tremendous because there are no dedicated servers and the maps are the worst of the past 4 COD games. They are flat with no multi-level fighting and awfully cluttered. Overall they are a disaster and receive a 0, therefore this game rates a 2 on my scale because it doesn't deserve to be rounded up. Expand

Game is Call of Duty. Nothing new. Mainstream **** Look at other game sequels, flourishing with new forms of innovation that bring to a title. This game has turned into something very similar to TV shows. The first few were good, gets pretty crappy afterwards.

    Played out.

This is MW 2.5. For years now the call of duty franchise has been shipping out the same game year after year and making millions off it while games like Battlefield 3 put so much work into their games only to be outsold by a game we've all been playing since 2008.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Modern Warfare 3 is claimed to be the "Most anticipated game in history", as i recall from the launch trailer, yet, for some this may be true, but for others, it is not. The single player campaign has always felt engaging like the multi-player but with more control, like difficulty and pausing. The story is both a triumphant and tragic tale of where everything is lost, all to defeat a single man, and feels like a powerful conclusion to the story of Price and Co. The multi-player, however feels neither powerful, nor triumphant when victory is achieved, and the progression in multi-player feels unusually fast paced, and undermines many unlocks gained (apart from Gold camouflage of course, ha ha). The multi-player, however IS a great step-up from Modern Warfare 2's formulae of multi-player, promoting more "Gun-on-Gun action", for example. And whilst this is true, the sky seems just as saturated with point-streaks as any other CoD, making some Perk choices such as Blind Eye a must for an Anti-air class needed to prevent most targets from mowing down the team, or just your self in the the case of free-for-all. The strike packages are a great addition, but feel a bit too rewarding for some tasks, such as the support class granting an EMP after 18 point-streak, which may seem like a lot, but for the player with an overpowered class, the reward is always within reach. Overall, the multi-player feels like some changes are needed and some things simply removed. Some maps, for example, feel too small, and some feel too easy to exploit. While the multi-player is not the best, it still provides many hours of game-play, especially with friends, which, feels like the best group to play on-line with. The single player, while epic in its scenes and story, felt marginally brief for a first time play-through to simply absorb the story. The Spec-Ops, by the way is just as great as its predecessor and the survival is a neat addition, as well as the levelling system, making progress more worth the time.

Overall, as a package, MW3 delivers to most, but not all. The Campaign is for a great story of a roller-coaster ride, Spec-ops for the dynamic duos of buddies who enjoy working together (or alone if desired) and the multi player is, as usual, the instant jump-in action station people hunger for.

I spent alot of time on MW2 , and even WaW and BOps , however am having a very difficult time forcing myself to play it. The single player is of course sort of neat .. but mainly only because of the special wow moments of the destuction happening in the background such as the falling of the eiffel tower. None of course is really interactive. The rest of the game is just shoot and take down a swarm of unrealistic AI enemies which are set to come when your player reaches a point or until to reach a set point to make them stop and continue with the story. Then as if a 60 Dollar price tag wasnt enough .. you can purchase a 50 dollar 1 year membership to basically get the expansions when games like Battlefield will have the first expansion and its free which is releasing in December. So just for the basic version plan on dishing out 110.00 Bucks to play everything. Modern Warfare 3 is a okay game .. however you can see the difference in quality from when Infinity Ward was truley a sole company and when the leftover Infinity Ward and SledgeHammer games get toghether and put out a "sequel" Expand

Small steps are whats keeping this franchise from reinvigorating the FPS genre, but as a whole this is still a playable game, and by no means is it awful. Before Modern Warfare, we had WW2 games that were being played out. Were they terrible? No, but we were growing tired of playing the same thing over and over. It's much the same case here. Modern Warfare 3 is a COD game, and if you've loved the past games, you will love this one. I understand the gripes of people wishing for a brand new experience, but until this game turns into Future Warfare, or Musket Warfare, I think it's safe to say that the core experience will remain the same for at least a few more years. This game is worthy of an 8, solid gameplay mechanics, solid graphics, an accessible multiplayer experience. All of these things are taken for granted in the overcrowded genre. Expand

This game is amazing, much better than Black Ops or mw2. I hated Black Ops, which turned me off from the series, and I only played a couple hours of #2. But every aspect of this game blew away my expectations, and it has been one of the most fun shooters I have ever played!

Average, that's all, this game is the definition of average. The graphics aren't improved at all from MW2 and Black Ops. The story is quite good if you like a rollercoaster, co-op is awesome with friends but MP is horribly unbalanced with no proper developer support.

This is a must buy, especially if you played the previous 2 parts of it and you want to complete the amazing story.
Some people was expecting some change change but the game is already perfect, it doesn't need change, when the developers see that its outdated i'm sure they will come up with a new engine and better graphics and so on..
Thank you Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games for this amazing experience.

It's a sad thing when people believe the things they like are much more superior to the things others like. Modern Warfare 3 is an upgrade to the previous versions, yes it plays the same with the same style of play, but so does the Battlefield series. People are so ignorant that they bash a game and then become oblivious to the game they follow that does the exact same things. It's people like this that give gamers a bad reputation on the eyes of others. The campaign is great and although it repeats similar scenes as seen in the previous games, it is still great to play through it. The visuals have been upgraded slightly from the previous generations and everything looks great. The sound effects have not received a similar upgrade and the it doesn't sound as great when compared to sound effects of other games, but it's no big deal. Although most people buy the game for the multiplayer, no oone can skip out on this. It's a great campaign that continues the story line that was established by its two previous predecessors. The campaign is where the true action is at. The multiplayer menus bring back a reminiscent feeling of the first Modern Warfare in which slightly the same. There have been a few multiplayer modes added to the already large variety of playlists. The action is quick and fun and the new additions of killstreaks and team streaks add a lot more strategic value to the game. The game automatically becomes a lot more fun when you establish a team with friends and you tackle the challenges of multiplayers in a much more coordinates manner. Appalled by review scores. Battlefield gets ripped on the fact that they added a singleplayer mode to what is essentially a multiplayer only game, just as an addition to add value to the game, yet Activision gets away with this crap every year. It's all about the money, and they're making a lot of it.

Granted, there are a few things that could be fixed, but I'm not sure where all these zero ratings are coming from. People keep saying it's just a mild update of MW2, but I just played MW2 last week and this one is significantly better. It's only slightly better than Black Ops -- which I didn't like as much as MW2 when it first came out, but ended up playing more than any other COD. The best part about this game is that it's smooth... if you like to move around a lot, it's easy to stay focused without everything being a blur. Also, the weapons are not bad at all-- it drives me nuts when all the weapons feel the same, but these have distinct personalities... you will instantly notice the difference between an M16 and AK47 (the COD games have always been pretty good at that though). And I'm loving the maps... the layout, the size, the atmosphere... it's mostly top notch (with just a little complaint, below). Connectivity and matchmaking have been very very good. It's a BIG improvement on MW2 and a slight improvement over Black Ops. Out of about 100 games, I only had a few that were "two-bar" connections. If you see that you have a two-bar connection, leave the lobby at the end of that match and join a different one... you will struggle.

So here's the bad: Maps have a lot of crap in them... stuff that ruins your flow and is easy to get stuck on. Also, if you run into a team that knows what it's doing and you just have strangers on your team... well, good luck. I'm not sure if it's just that there are a lot of people new to the COD series playing, but it seems like the gap between good players and new players is really really wide. In situations like that, if you like to play the objective like I do, then it's pretty much something you'll have to sacrifice in order to stay alive. On that point, checking lobby leaderboards to see teammate/opponent skill has become a guessing game. Black Ops had the points-per-minute stat which really told you how much of an effect someone would have on the game, but now it just lumps overall kills (which would be more helpful if we could see deaths at the same time) along with overall score and other useless facts. Headquarters is a bit more frustrating also... you won't get points for helping capture the headquarters (ok, well you get 10 or something), but only the first person there gets credit, which is just stupid. Even if I'm usually the first person there, my teammates need incentive to help me take it. Lastly, the guys that I usually play with are all hurting in the kill/death area, for some reason. A lot of 2+ k/d ratio guys are struggling to stay above 1 right now, which puzzles me. I'm the biggest rusher out of all of us, but my k/d has just stayed about the same. Perhaps that'll change... we'll see.

People say the graphics haven't been enhanced at all. However, if you actually take notice to things other than sharpness of picture, then you will notice an upgrade on the graphics engine. The online is the bread and butter of this series. MW3 has a phenomenal multiplayer system. By far, the most balanced of the series since cod 4. No overpowered killstreaks or air support. Explosives have been significantly reduced while not being rendered completely useless, and above all, no constant grenade launchers flying across the map. Bravo IW & Sledgehammer, I will be playing this game for many months. Don't let the negative comments from angry little kids affect you, you have made a great game. Yes, I have been a fan of CoD since CoD4, and there is nothing wrong with that. Yes, I would probably pay $60/year for new maps, perks, killstreaks, weapons, etc., and there is nothing wrong with that either. That doesn't mean I can't be fair and objective in my analysis of the game, a tactic that seems to be lost on some of the previous simple-minded reviewers. But, there are other changes and additions and improvements to this game that make it well worth the money. This game is very enjoyable if you get over yourself, mature past the emotional age of 16, and realize that Activision quite obviously has a very successful formula that they're not willing to stray TOO far away from. If you're that shallow that you expect a COMPLETELY different game with every installment (as many other less successful franchises are forced to create), maybe you should try a different title. It's not difficult. BF3 fanboys can go sit on a railroad spike. Your mere presence here is all the indication the world needs that the Battlefield franchise is nowhere near where it wants to be or where CoD is and has been for 4-5 years. As made evident from their reviews, If I were to total up the IQ of all the reviewers that have left a score of '0' on here, I would come up with a number not much greater than the rating they gave the game. Bad game is bad.

Why are they chargin £50 for this? The same rehashed crap that was released years ago. £50 for a terrible map pack, not to worry they will release some more packs in a few weeks costs £15.

While that's good for the hardcore CoD fans, it's disappointing to the rest, that such a "cheap" game still turns out to be one of the most successful games of this year...of course many sales are accounted to the good name and reputation of "Call of Duty" and more soever "Modern Warfare" and "Infinity Ward". I say Activision has to step up it's game and stop with the annual cheap CoD sequels and make something worth our money. If I were a gamer, not sure whether to buy MW3 I'd go and buy MW1, which is cheaper, had it's original creators working on it and has less problems than MW3.
Many people like to say: Why improve on something that is already good?
To that I say: There's always room for improvement, no game's perfect.

The best Modern Warfare to date, an incredibly polished single-player experience, a very-welcomed "survival mode" in Spec Ops, and very smooth multiplayer makes this my favourite Infinity Ward entry in the series.

Shouldn't people have known that this game wasn't a huge improvement from MW2. Well I knew that before the release so I knew that it wouldn't be revolutionary and extremely incredible. With that said, I think the gameplay is a lot like MW2 but much, much more BALANCED. Balance is the key to a multiplayer game and MW3 does a great job with it. The maps do suck but other than that, there is so much depth in the game. Don't forget about Survival Mode because it is also really good, but doesn't compare to Zombies. People need to stop critiquing the game for being the same, "What more can they put in?" I would give it a 9.5 if that was possible. And the free version of Elite is a must-have. Expand

I've been an avid player of FPS shooters for a while now. This game is utterly atrocious. After playing some Black Ops (which I mildly enjoyed, if that at all. Complete and total garbage. In fact calling MW3 garbage is insulting garbage, because garbage is better than MW3.
I'll start out with the multiplayer. After playing some story mode to get use to the controls to see if they were any different (not really) I went in and started playing some multiplayer. It's the same thing I've been playing for a good couple years, except somehow worse. The killstreak turned pointstreak system is idiotic and I was skeptical at it's unveiling, but seeing it in action truly made me cringe.
Each option is bad, one being overpowered (you don't lose points after death), one ho hum (the traditional kill streak system, but more boring), and the other idiotic and inconceivable (you gain perks every kill, HOW THOUGHT OUT).
I could go on how imbalanced the system and game is but it would be more of the same. This game is disgustingly terrible and a waste of money. Please save your hard earned cash (or your parent's, in that case, you will probably LOVE this "game") for something else. Or maybe just burn it, it's a better way of throwing away money.

Secondly all the good changes which were made to blackops are lacking (like when you knife someone from behind) or dive! its also a shame thue 'design your own emblem' didn't transfer across from black ops to mw3. The game is lacking is detail of after game stats in things like domination. How many did we capture? and finally, the graphics and realism now appear dated in comparison to Battlefield 3 (which is surprising considering they stole the 'weapon level up' idea from the battlefield games) - destructable landscapes might bave been good!

IF it wants to be kill kill kill based as opposed to objective based then why didn't it have a gears3 or Halo (Horde) type mode ?! Such a shame!

This game was not made for gamers, its only purpose is making a profit and creating brainwashed fanboys by churning out a game every 6 months so they do not have time to think. The critics clearly have not played the other games, or activision paid them off for good reviews. And don't even get me started ob the story *shudders*. The storyline is the same in every game, with no creativity or effort, and it is five gruling hours. This game is basicly a $60 map pack for MW2 (I loved that game, but after black op's came out I began to see the big picture). I would rather ride a public detroit buss around for 5 hours instead of playing this abomination, hell I would rather grind this game up and snort it instead of playing this game, at least a trip to the hospital will be exciting. Do yourself a favor, save your money and go buy a game that is worth your money such as used copy of MW1 or MW2, mass effect 1+2, skyrim, Ect. Oh, did I mention that that was only the single player? Don't even get my started about all the butthurt racist 12 year olds that you will be playing with, and all the extreme to the max try hard's. But this one doesnt even pull from black ops yet pulls from MW2 and just adds a few new guns/perks and maps, back in the day this used to be called an expansion and was usually around 20 bucks. For instance CoD:United Offensive, they added a great campaign (probably the greatest in the CoD franchise) and that lasted around 10 hours. They also added a full game worth full of maps. Newer weapons and they added vehicles, all of that for 20 bucks and that was 2 fold more content that the full MW3 game priced at 3 times the ammount of UO. Expand

That being said, one the successes that CoD has influenced on the FPS genres was lead by the innovation the development team creates. Yet this year, even with bringing two new development teams to the mix, very few new game mechanics were brought into the game. Like a lot of people are saying how MW3 is just a map pack for MW2, the only real "new" aspect of the game is new maps and weapons. Weapon proficiencies is just a perk slot you earn for a specific gun and kill streaks are still the most emphasized attribute, more than playing the game mode. With all the drama involving IW you would think they would have dished out something spectacular this year. If you liked MW2, this game will keep you moving forward. Otherwise, this shall go down as one if not the biggest game let down ever. Sorry IW, I love ya but you don't get my vote this year. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
