I got what I expected. It's an enjoyable experience that improved upon the MW2. Multiplayer is also improved. It has new options for customization. I don't have the costly elite online, so I can't speak to that. The campaign is ok within the context of the established story. It's COD at it's finest. There was a time when I was a hardcore COD fan. Back when it was still a WWII game, and dwarfed by EA's Medal of Honor series. And even ignoring the at best average COD:3, I still loved the series, and loved it even more when they dropped COD:4. Sure I was still playing BF2, but there was nothing like Modern Warfare, and in many ways it was better than BF2. But now, I can only sigh when I see another COD being released. For all of their influence and reinvention of the FPS genre, they have fallen completely stale. I would not recommend buying MW:3, unless you are really in love with the series. The campaign has turned into something so ridiculous I don't even think the worst Hollywood action movies could out do it, and while the set pieces still bring a slight bit of excitement, it all just feels like I've done this before. The only solid part about the whole thing is that it closes out the series storyline.( I hope, anyway) The multiplayer has some nice tweaks in it and I have to say the co-op is also very well done, but once again, it all feels the same. It's still the corridor, run-n-gun, twitch reflex, no-scope, game. And despite all of the small, and well done tweaks, the game just seems to be all too familiar to keep me interested. I can honestly say that I tried, I played with a bunch of friends, tried to re-light that fire that kept me playing COD:4 for years, but it's just not there anymore. Honestly, I would say this game is worth the rental, especially if you played COD:4, and MW2, just to close out the story. However, I would absolutely not recommend buying MW:3, it's just not worth the money anymore. Expand

Right, firstly I've not got on board with BF3 yet, I've always been a COD fan, so stick with what I know best, and enjoy (saying that, I am going to get BF3 as well). I can see there's probably a lot of people on here who are BF3 fans and obviously feel the need to slate another game. I played the single player last night (having already played multiplayer a few nights before), and I was blown away by the way the game drew me in, it just feels like classic COD... yes, not much in innovation, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. The hardcore fans of the series love it for all it's core gameplay and style... so this game, may feel like an expensive add on, but it's still bloody good! I really enjoyed what I've seen of single player, and also enjoyed the multiplayer side of things... seriously, if you love the MW, then just get it, judge for yourself, it's everything you loved about previous editions. And yes, I'm going to try out BF too... but not then going to go on the BF review wall and leave a nice big zero if I don't like it. Peace. Expand

The game is plain bad. It's sad that with each game since CoD4, this franchise keeps going backwards. Lack of dedicated ranked server is awful. The biggest change when compared to MW2 is weapon leveling, lol. They just copy-pasted 90% stuff to their "new" game

MW3 however, sold 6.5 million copies and is easily the number one game for FPS's. MW3 uses the same engine as MW2, but that's no surprise. Its still a great game and keeps on getting better. MW3 is great simply because it has always been great. BF3 has major slowdowns, hardly gets to the desired 60fps, and looks choppy. BF3 has better graphics but with the slowdowns, it simply sucks by comparison. MW3 runs at 60fps and never slows down once. Its FLUID!! And still looks great. BF3 is a wide-open gaming that has huge maps. You get in, and it takes a long time just to find someone to shoot at.

Bottom line: MW3 is a familiar close-encounter game that is far more fun. The low ratings here are simply people at EA trying to destroy the competition by giving it a low rating. EA games suck. They have always sucked, as evidenced by many games. Especially Crysis 2 when EA made Crytek release an Alpha to the public to make money.

Now we have to deal with Origin on computer's? Say no to CRAPWARE, say NO to EA. EA is going down the tubes... the faster the better.

Deeply disappointed! I have played most fanchises of Activision who has - unfortunately degenerated to a pur cash generating machine completely neglecting their real clients, the gamers. Modern Warfare 3 is at its best a Modern Warfare 2 1.5. Activision, and this is for sure will not see me again.

The quality of this game is not a factor-- the fact is that it's been done before. This offers nothing new to the market and offers no new directions to strive towards. Regardless of whether or not this game is good will not hinder the sales. I have extreme doubts upon anyone waiting for reviews to buy this game. If you're a fan, then you'll buy it.

I personally don't see the appeal.

I've tried and I've tried COD MW3 but, there is nothing innovative about you. This game lacks the online game play of BF3 and it's predecessor Black OPS. I'm going to rate the overall game with graphics, game play online and campaign, and network reliability. Graphics I give a 2. Game play online I give a 1. Same small maps, sniper killers who don't need to aim, and when you shoot a guy with a full clip he finally dies. Even the elite version is poorly designed. Campaign game play is a 4. Again, the graphics are dated, the AI is not very smart, and almost all the weapons sound the same. Network reliability I give a 10. I don't think I had a dropped connection yet. However, with graphics like that, there isn't much to render. lol So my overall score is 1.5 because the network connectivity is a non factor. The trolling of the user reviews for this game really disappoints me. There is no way, no way in hell, this game deserves anything less than a 7.5 from even the most jaded of gamers. When I read the early user reviews it was obvious the BF3 trolls were out in force. But the extent to which they have overwhelmed it made me wonder if perhaps Metacritic might try to filter the fanboys and retain some shadow of dignity. The professional reviewers inflate ratings, and no one questions this. When your livelihood depends on ad revenue and freebies from the ever-shrinking number of studios, who could really criticize them? That having been said, Metacritic has had the honorable position of hedging the professional reviewers with user reviews, and it made for the best (though certainly imperfect) way to judge a game one was unfamiliar with. Of course, MW is the biggest game franchise in history, so no one is really unfamiliar with it. Nonetheless, I wondered if Metacritic might take action to retain some semblance of objectivity. Then I realized Metacritic was owned by News Corp, which has a 5% stake in EA.com. Oh well. Something will come along to replace it i guess. BTW, I love BF3, glitches and all.

Game only took 9 months to make, where as the average COD game takes 19 months to make, I knew MW3 wasnt gonna be great, maybe Modern Warfare 2.5, but didnt even do that. Call of Duty 4? nope, COD4 was better, this game should be considered Call of Duty 3.5. Multiplayer maps seem like the developers just threw stuff together, had no vision for maps, all together trashed game.

    Modern Warfare 2.5

Simply this game could have been an expansion pack to the last.

There is NO innovation in this franchise whatsoever. It is sad to see for the guys that exploded the modern FPS franchise, they have forgotten what it was that made them stand out in the first place.

Remember your audience, do something to wow them and then you will get your scores and your sales back.

I think the multiplayer is better than MW2, and the maps are varied enough to warrant buying this one. I think many are overly critical of this game. The multi-player is a great upgrade from the last game and the new kill-streaks and the (new) types of perks make the multiplayer much more enjoyable. Now I do agree, they could of used a different engine for this game unlike their last one, but it is hardly noticeable. You will be too much into destroying the enemy team than standing and staring and rocks and bushes to see how "real" they are. Now with the campaign, it is just fantastic. It combines a good sense that you are actually in a world war and not just another video game. The story is fantastic and always keeps you on edge with twists and the epic battles. The multiplayer has shown some improvement, but while actually playing the game you can't help but feel like you've played this game last year. The Spec Ops Survival mode is fantastic! Unlike Zombies, MW3's survival mode doesn't see you getting completely swarmed in 5 minutes. I managed to get to Wave 25 on my own, which with Zombies was impossible to even get past round 5 on my own.

Also before the game's release they were boasting about how balanced the game is, when now we have rank 1's facing off against rank 80's on the first day.

They said they were going to ban cheaters .... no bans have took place as people are still using Lag switches, and glitches.

CoD Elite premium has not added any extra content to the game so far, and after the 9 month DLC season, I can't see anyone getting Elite premium any more, as there wouldn't be any point in getting it.

I am now used to BLOPs, but it took a while, where it took no time to feel at home in MW3. I can't comment on the story as I played 15 minutes of it before bed last night, but so far it is looking to be a great ride. Multiplayer is where MW3 shines. The tweak of making streaks based on points as opposed to kills is huge! This makes the game more accessible to people like myself whose K/D ratio is below 1 because now I don't need to have a stellar game to contribute to my team's welfare. New game modes make the multiplayer feel fresh. I love Spec Ops. I wish it allowed 4 people, but MW3 got it right to limit it to 2 players. Overall, this is the best shooter out there right now. BF3 is great and I will continue to split my gaming time between it and MW3, but MW3 is just more intense than BF3. This is a tough month to be a game. Competing with BF3, MW3, Skyrim and Halo CEA in the same month. Four great games, 3 shooters, and one epic RPG. Right now, MW3 is top of the pile. MW3 is worth the price of admission and that's not even bringing the COD Elite service into the picture. Elite makes MW3 into a social experience to rival Battlelog and Bungie's stat tracking software for Halo. All these negative reviews must be from BF3 fanboys or something. I find it suspect that EVERYONE went out and got the game at midnight, or early on 11/8 and despises it because it's the same as the other games.

Um.. what? Newsflash. ALL of these Modern Warfare games have been the same. If you played MW2, which was basically the same as MW1.. why would you expect innovation at this point?

Um.. what? Newsflash. ALL of these Modern Warfare games have been the same. If you played MW2, which was basically the same as MW1.. why would you expect innovation at this point? And yet, you still ran out and bought the game. Congrats. You just told IW and Activision that you'll buy the game regardless of what's inside the case. I'm sure you'll be picking up MW4 at launch as well, just to complain about it some more.

I don't get it. Anyway.. good game. Nothing innovative, sure. But it's enjoyable. Really, at this point, they really are just glorified map packs, but I don't mind. I play each game pretty religiously until the next one is out. I like the feel of the guns, and the new multiplayer modes are fun. The only complaint I can think of is that the maps are maybe too small and cramped.

I got this game knowing it would be very similar to all CoD games but after playing for about 15 min I honestly felt scammed, its pretty much the exact same game....why an i paying $60 for a black ops expansion? I also bough battlefield 3, and while the game play is similar its greatly refreshed, CoD needs to go outside the box more...I think this will be my last CoD MWF game =(

I'm not gunna lie, this game is highly disappointing. Also, I've noticed a trend in all the cod reviews. It's basically paid critics vs user reviewers. Obviously the paid ones are going to give the game a much higher score even though it's **** and the users are going to give the game the score it deserves.

If you enjoy paying $60 for the same recycled crap over and over then feel free to purchase this. At most, this should be a $15 map pack + campaign. Oh wait, this is Activision we are talking about here.

Ok I played MW3 for around 7 or 8 hours when I gave it a score of 4. Now I've had around 30 hours on the game I'm still giving it a 4, my first instincts were . Ok the campaign is good and like being immersed in your very own action movie but multiplayer is where most people are going to spend their time and it just doesn't live up to the standards set before. The maps are all very similar in feel, closed close combat maps with few open spaces and half the size of some of the MW2 maps, when playing with 12 to a team it is incredibly cluttered and teamwork is impossible. Larger maps with an emphasis on teamwork would have been an innovation I could have lived with but it's the same old running and gunning and the victories go to those with machine pistols and sprint. The much touted new weapons etc don't make that much a difference really because the maps are so small you only really need an auto and a quick trigger finger.
Comparing it to BF3 is a waste of time as they really are totally different games, comparing it to it's predecessor MW2 or Black Ops more appropriate and sadly MW3 doesn't stack, MW2 is still a superb game and I regret trading in my copy of Black Ops for MW3.
I would have been happy to pay 15 euro ($ 22) for this as an expansion but paying around 69 euros ($ 95) is a bit of a rip off to say the least.

Wow. EA must have paid a lot of BF3 fanboys (or interns) to write a bunch of bad reviews for MW3. Classy EA. There is no way all these 0s are real.

I had to sign up and leave a short review to counter the BF3 fantards. While not revolutionary, MW3 is very polished. The graphics and gameplay are great. The multiplayer delivers with new perks and equipment. The maps are very balanced. I have not finished the campaign yet but I had a big smile on my face sabotaging the sub! The special forces co-op is a blast to play with a friend.I had to sign up and leave a short review to counter the BF3 fantards. While not revolutionary, MW3 is very polished. I think the game is great! May be the same engine, but they never advertised for new and improved graphics, so stop complaining. I love the new modes, and weapons. Totally worth the price. If you loved MW2, then this is a deff pick up.

Its the best at SP, MP, Spec-Ops simply everything. The game may be close to MW2 at graphics but its the best game ever. Best-in-class multiplayer is now more balanced than ever. Also you shouldn't worry about empty servers because it is best selling game ever. It deserves 10.

Best CoD to date, no doubt. The Multiplayer is similar to MW2 but all the annoying things are fixed. This game is just what i was hoping for. This game is leagues ahead of any other shooter on xbox 360 and i don't want to start a flame war but this includes BF3. All the trolls on this site giving it a zero just look pathetic.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
