Modern Warfare saga is one of the most addictive games I've ever played, just after a couple of on-line games you just can't stop playing it. Not too many games can run at 60 frames per second in Xbox 360 and this fluent gameplay works and it is much useful in a shooter than better textures or scenery destruction.

I know it haven't change that much since first MW but, isn't it funny enough to catch you hours? I own both MW3 and B3 and they are simply different games, one is more instant fun and the other is more tactical.

How anyone can say this game is a copy and paste is obviously stupid and must be terrible at cod, Because the multiplayer is totally balanced compared to other games which makes it more competitve.

The fact that MW3 out sold battlefield pre-orders 3-1 says it all right there. Now before I get destroyed on here look back and re-read what I wrote. I said BIGGER and MORE POPULAR. NOT better. And do you know why I didn't say better? It's because not one game is any better then the other. BF3 and MW3 honestly can't be compared to each other because they are COMPLETELY different genres of the FPS. Now I have played both games and I do prefer MW3 over BF3. Now I'm not going to get into details on why because I could talk all day about that. Why I really came here was because of how sickened and off-put I was by the disrespect and ignorance that is being presented here. Both company's, Dice and Infinity Ward, have put so much work and dedication into these games. For people to come here and give the game a 0 out of 10 just because they want BF3 to look more superior is pathetic. I really hope people like this learn how childish they are being and start learning how to properly discuss and critique like an adult. Expand

But over all, it is a good game, fun, action packed, fast paced, and a great game to play with friends online or split screen. People giving this game a 0 rating are not being honest, and are most likely bf3 fanboys, so I wouldn't take what they say to heart. The game isn't perfect, but it's worth the money. Call of Duty has stuck to their tried and true strategy of crafting multiplayer. If you go into MW3 expecting radical changes, then you will be disappointed. But if you go into this expecting the CoD style of game play that has generated the massive following it has today, it will deliver. The fans will love it and the haters will hate it. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer is the best multiplayer experience up to date. Activision has mastered the art of making fun multiplayer online first person shooter. This game plays a lot like like previous call of duty titles, which is not necessarily bad as this formula worked for them and continues to work as this game is even more fun than previous call of duty titles..

The fanatacism in the video game industry now is quite pathetic. This idea that you can only enjoy and support either Battlefield or COD is beyond absurd. You literally couldn't compare two more distinctly opposite games, with the only similarity being that you shoot various types of weaponry. One does it's best to emulate a more strategic, team-based, open battlefield design, while the other is clearly meant to be a frantic, tight-quartered dose of chaos and over-the-top action. For me, I enjoy them both BECAUSE of their specific differences.

    As for the game..............

Well, having not played any of the COD games since MW2 (which was pretty awesome), I can say that I didn't have any hopes or expectations on this game. Since MW2 I had spent more of my limited gaming time enjoying the Battlefield series and had recently decided to give this a spin. Well worth it. Pure fun, pure entertainment. There really isn't much negative I could say about it. It's a nice change of pace from Battlefield, and was an immediate wake-up call to me that I needed to change my FPS skills accordingly.

If you're expecting something mind-blowing or revolutionary, you're simply not thinking straight and don't really have the ability to comment on the gaming industry. If you're somebody who enjoys the adrenaline of fast paced, over-the-top action and enjoy constant unlocks, a plethora of game modes and maps.......then you should love this game.

    Rating: 8.5/10 (rounded to 9)

    FYI, Battlefield 3 rating: 8/10

Enjoy them both..............they're both incredible multiplayer games that should hold your attention for months, if not years.

To the people who say: its simply a MW2 expansion. What were you expecting?! To travel suddenly back into another era? I honestly cant think of how they could have made it better! It's meant to be a intense, fast-paced, FPS; not a battle simulation. Call Of Duty isn't was never about the teamwork or realism per say, its simply meant to be about you playing as a hardcore soldier, doing the impossible... (If you looking for a realistic battle simulation, buy BF3 a realistic but slow paced game. )
If you don't like fast paced FPS games (e.g. BF3 fan) don't give it bad ratings, if it's not your type then it's not.

'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' showcases the same old engine. dated game play. the game will become a DLC money pit. if you blame EA for yearly madden games, then you must not give this a pass.

My disappointment with the game is the developers inability to see that high impact moments lose their impact when the game has way too many of them. Yes, giant set pieces are awesome, but the game should have looked at the pacing in cod4 for ideas. Either way, I can't believe all the people putting 0's in here. It absolutely deserves at least an 8, so I'll throw in a 10 to balance it out a bit.

They should have just released this as a $30 map pack for MW2 and took an extra couple of years to create a new engine and make the much needed changes that need to happen to get this game back on track. I think its only fair to compare this to other Call of Duty games. I began playing COD4 Modern Warfare years ago and thought it was a good game but it wasn't enough to get me away from Halo 3 at the time. Modern Warfare 2 came along and blew me away. I began playing COD4 Modern Warfare years ago and thought it was a good game but it wasn't enough to get me away from Halo 3 at the time. Modern Warfare 2 came along and blew me away. I was really excited about Black Ops but in comparison to MW2 it was a horrible game. Black Ops took away many of the things that made MW2 great. All the weapons seemed to be vastly under powered and it felt like it took 10 rounds or more to get a kill with an assault rifle. On to MW3. If you enjoyed MW2 you will be annoyed by a number of things that they either took away or split up so you have to decide to have parts of what you would have had. For example, I used to use Slight of Hand Pro as my first perk in MW2. It gave you faster reload, faster swapping weapons and faster ADS (aiming down sights). In MW3 you can have Slight of Hand as your first perk but you only get faster reload and faster swapping weapons. If you want faster ADS you have to choose Quick Draw as your second perk. We'll come back to this in a minute....

In MW2 I used to have a shotgun as my secondary. MW3 followed Black Ops lead in not allowing a shotgun as a secondary. The only way that I can have a shotgun along with my assault rifle is if I choose Overkill as my second perk which allows me to carry a second primary weapon. So, do I choose Quickdraw for the faster ADS or Overkill for my secondary shotgun? Other aspects include some things I miss and others I don't. -In MW3 they added a lot of sway to your gun when looking down the sights, more than what you would experience in real life. In MW2 if you aimed at something it wouldn't sway even a pixel (which I loved).

-I don't miss Commando (as I never used it and would always get frustrated that someone would lunge 15 feet to stab me).

-I do miss Stopping Power because I feel like it takes too many rounds to kill someone. -I do miss the fact that Scavenger won't allow you to pick up more Claymores. -I have mixed feelings about not having OMA (One Man Army) because of all the people that used it to keep reloading the grenade launcher. I would use it on occasion to replenish ammo on a Scar-H that didn't have much ammo to start with or to replenish Claymores. -Explosives are WEAK! (especially the grenade launcher)

-Maps are horrible! MW2 had so many multiple level buildings and maps with open spaces. MW3 just uses corridors with multiple entrances and it makes it feel claustrophobic.

-Spawning placement is horrible. It seems like every time I kill someone I immediately get shot in the back. Every time I spawn I feel like I get to shoot an enemy in the back. I thought I was crazy at first but my friends mentioned the same thing and then I read other reviews on here mentioning the same issue.

This game feels more like Black Ops than another Modern Warfare although its no where close to as bad as Black Ops. I told myself I would level up and give this game a shot. I just hit level 80 and I'm going to continue to level up a few more weapons but I feel myself wanting to return to MW2. Hope this helps!

The gameplay is of course, the same and offer no new gameplay mechanics but why fix what's not broken and the graphical style has age quite well since MW2. Single player: I thought the single player was much better than Battlefield 3 because I was already emotionally invested on the main characters from COD4 and the set pieces and overall pacing was just better (though the "shock moment" was completely unnecessary and out of context). Multi-player: Same old yet still intense and fun to play and I do like the dog tag collecting after you kill someone, which actually ruins a camper's day and makes the matches more fair. To be honest, it's still the same as the other COD games but it's kind of pointless to bash it for its lack of originality because its not the only game franchise that has used their formula over and over again . MW3 is fun to play overall. The single player is fun but it does not have a good replay value like COD4 had and the multi-player is still as intense and mindlessly fun since the previous games. This is Call of Duty, and Modern Warfare 3 collects these moments of boom in abundance, presenting them in all their 60 frames-per-second glory.

Modern Warfare 3's singleplayer campaign hits many of the same highs and lows as its predecessors. Amazing setpieces serve as backdrops for giant firefights yet again. This is no understatement. Few games retain the crazy roller coaster pace that this does level after level, with brief moments to breathe set between the next eruption of gunplay. The shooting feels extremely responsive and well-tuned, and the battlegrounds challenge your awareness at all times. You're always given different situations that mix-up the gameplay just enough to keep things interesting. The game presents a formidable challenge, as always, on the Hardened and Veteran settings â

Once you hit level 20 you can pick the Specialist Strike Package. This has no killstreaks. Instead the more kills you get,the more perks you get. I recommend this for only the most expert of players. This package has no deathstreaks so making a comeback will be especially difficult. There are 2 new modes in the game that are really cool. Kill Confirmed is basically Team Deathmatch but you have to pick up these dogtags to confirm the kills. You can also pick up your own dog tag and deny the other teams kills. Team Defender is a fun twist on Capture the Flag. In Team defender the objective is to play keep away with the flag. The longer you have it the more points you get. If you play with your friends and have a strategy you will have a good chance of dominating. Expand

Yes, most of the core mechanics remain the same, but underneath the illusion of it being just another CoD game lies a fantastic shooter. The campaign is probably the best Call of Duty campaign yet, with a gripping story, great levels and a ton of explosions to keep you occpupied all the way until the ending. Yes, it may be pretty linear, but I think that the best way to enjoy CoD campaigns is by thinking of it as an interactive movie, then you'll enjoy it best. Besides, it's a more than refreshing change from Black Ops' extremely dull campaign.

The multiplayer has experienced quite a few changes that improve it, such as reintroducing Deathstreaks and adding Strike Packages. While the multiplayer remains largely the same addictive action that we're all used to, Battlefield 3's is still a lot better.

Spec-Ops, on the other hand, brings us something more or less fresh: Survival Mode. While it follows the same basic principle as Zombies does (fight waves of attacking enemies that increasingly grow in size and power with a buddy), Survival Mode surprisingly emerges as the stronger component out of the two. Personally I hated Zombies; it got so repetitive struggling to kill these brainless enemies in a range of dull maps, only ever getting to something like Level 12 on my own. Survival Mode, however, can be as accessible as you like, as you instead fight off soldiers rather than the undead. Survival Mode is a deeper, more balanced experience.

Modern Warfare 3 doesn't change many of its core game mechanics, and its' multiplayer is not as good as Battlefield 3's, but as a shooter PACKAGE, this is one of the best.

While it's definetely no revolution and is pretty much the same game as MW2, 3 distinguishes itself by rising above the beligirent nonsense that was started with Black Ops my least favorite Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 3 is a triumph in this matter, as it smartly chooses to go back to MW2's multiplayer system, one that feels still fun and enjoyable. What however, is the greatest part of this game? It's just pure fun. Whether your playing the great new survival mode that's clocking in my time or the multiplayer, which is the absolute best its ever been, there's so much to keep you interested in Modern Warfare 3 it would be blasphemy to say different. The multiplayer, the crowning achievement of MW3 is exactly what it set out to be, tweaked awesomeness, changing how unlocking guns work with new "gun ranks", and new playlists like "Kill Confirmed" help keep variety flowing in the game's veins. The single player campaign is actually quite good, while very short, the game still offers up the same hollywood style set pieces and epicness the series has been known for, and offers an ending that wraps up almost everything. Spec Ops however is my favorite thing about MW3. The new survival mode is amazing fun and addictive. The only huge problems are the lack of new graphical content which is enraging many players and should. The game is still running on the CoD4 engine, one that has met its age, and shows it. The only other problems I have are with the story, and I won't spoil any of those, so in the end, Modern Warfare 3 is no revolution, but its a damn fun game, and I don't think I need to say why. 8/10

If you look at wiki they even have the page blocked. I guess they don't want fan reviews being posted under the "reception" category. Let's start with why I think this game deserves the rating I gave it. I'm gonna go by gameplay since that's the main thing and story is not as important to me. This is not a new game. The skins and most of the guns are the same from MW2. They have a new leveling system for guns which takes a real long time. Once again, there is pretty much no point to prestige. If anything your at a worse disadvantage under this system. Also, there are a lot of little glitches which definitely should be patched. I'm talking about how you run, the hitmarkers, and switching weapons. I think that you appear on the map if you get hit by flash. It's just stupid stuff that doesn't do anything but make the game worse. I just don't understand why it was like that in the first place. If they test the game they should see that it's dumb. Also, cod elite is just a rip of bungie.net. To me, I've grown tired of competitive gaming. Halo 3 and Halo 2 took some skill so I understood it, but Reach and Cod is just a different game. Now, stats are going to take even more priority over teamwork. All the good things that black ops did like Combat Training, Wager Matches, Zombies, PURE playlists. They got nothing to compare on here. Spec Ops was suppose to be a calling card to this game, but it just falls flat. It has too much randomness involved imo to match zombies. Although, zombies have lost some of their challenge too since gravy train was invented. Anyways, I just think if your a cod fan you should stick to black ops. Or any other new game you want (BF3, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, ect). Call of duty is dead guys. Sorry, but it's the truth. IW has proven to me that there is no creative effort left in this project. Alright, let's look at this as a game on it's own, and not as part of a series. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's single player campaign plays like a movie, with little emphasis on exploration or tackling objectives in your own fashion. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's single player campaign plays like a movie, with little emphasis on exploration or tackling objectives in your own fashion. Behind all of the explosions and mayhem is a glorified set of corridors in which you do exactly as you're told, or else you cannot progress. Shoot the helicopter with this conveniently placed RPG, jump here, bomb these red squares here, follow this guy, and so forth. One part of the game attempted to make me feel something, but it didn't. Anyone else who played through the campaign knows what I'm talking about (it involves a van). The gunplay in the singleplayer seems to be a lot like whack a mole, with you trying to shoot the bad guys before they pop into cover, without much variation.

For a lot of people, the main meat of the game is in it's multiplayer. This mode contains your standard modes of play such as deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and so on. You get perks, which are like attributes that improve your abilities in certain areas, like sleight of hand which makes you reload faster. You also get certain "streaks" which are rewards for doing well. An example would be killing three people in a row and receiving a "UAV", and this UAV grants you the ability to check a minimap for the location of your foes. You can also get "streaks" for doing various teamwork related actions.

A third mode is the "Spec Ops" mode where you can attempt a few challenges either alone or with one friend. There is survival mode within this mode, where you fight wave after wave of enemies for as long as you can, while being able to buy upgrades and other weapons between and during waves to heighten your chances of survival. It's basically like the game Killing Floor with some more running. The other chunk of spec ops is a bunch of varied challenges, like "kill these targets within a certain time to receive stars" or "collect these samples". The stars you receive allow you to unlock more challenges, and playing the challenges on higher difficulties rewards you with even more stars.

Now, I can't give this game two ratings, but I'd like to. If this is your first time playing a game in the Call of Duty series, I'd give it an 8. If you have played games in this series before, 6, because it is very similar to the earlier ones.

Not quite a brand new game but does enough to make it feel fresh, sp is a bit of a let down but fun nonetheless, however the mp is once again as fun and addictive as before, most of the "brokenness" of mw 2 seems to have been rectified. Maps are a bit disappointing but we''l see what the dlc has to offer.

Single player had great set peices, though it was fairly short. The story was usually just an excuse to blow $#$% up but I suppose it but things in context.

Multiplayer is quite familiar, but hey most people knew that going in. Kill confirmed is definitely good fun though.

    Overall I'm a happy camper.

(the 10 is because I think the score is unfairly low, its more of the same, but it works)

The single player is the same old linear action movie wannabe ripoff that it always has been. Multiplayer has been changed up slightly but for the worse. Elite is a total ripoff. If you want a better Multiplayer experience go play battlefield 3.

The only reason the review score is so low for this game is due to all the BF3 fanboys coming on and giving it a zero? Don't believe me? Well I that's the case, it's an expansion that will sells millions more than BF3 ever will. In the end, who is someone going listen to about a game? A paid, credible critic? This game was a real disappointment, and I wasn't expecting much since the CoD series is severely becoming tired. It all starts with the menu interface. Sure a couple of the game types, Kill Confirmed in particular, are a nice addition, but definitely not worth the $60+. Not to mention the $15 a pop for each 3-map pack that comes out. All I can hope is that this is a sign to Activision that they lost their gravy train of talent that is Infinity Ward when they lost Jay West, Vincent Zampella, and the rest of their loyal developers. Maybe, just maybe, they will hear the gamers' outcry from this flop and actually put some effort into the next game. Or perhaps they could just go the way they have with this series and reap in the profits by exploiting the lemmings, like myself, who will keep buying anything with the CoD name on it because they had an amazing time with one or more of the past games and are looking for that original high again. Is there a methadone for CoD? Expand

Quite sad the way people are rating this game. The campaign wraps up one of the best stories I have ever played in the history of FPS games. The multiplayer is great. No launch issues what so ever (besides COD Elite but that's a whole different product). I haven't experienced any bugs at all. Overall this will be my GOTY. The game is in no way broken, it runs silky smooth, and you know what, it is FUN.

I really didn't want to bring up that other game (battlefield 3) but... I hated it. Last years Medal of Honor was a much better game than battlefield 3 in my opinion, but neither can stand up to MW3

I say good job IW, Sledgehammer, and Raven. The sales speak for themselves. I love MW3 and so do all of my friends, see you online.

MW3 was the only time i didn't pre-order. A buddy of mine actually did and we played it a couple of times. Nothing really stood out as being new, or refreashing. MW2 was a huge step over MW. This game truely feels like a giant map pack with a cheap story line thrown in just to call it a game. ALL this to get that christmas paycheck.. You won't find me on MW3 or even any of the past COD games. I have found my new home on Gears of war. I am tired of the money grubbing devs such as IW and EA.. The game will eventually suffer at the greedy hands of the developers. COD is a great game along with other FPS games... It's just sad to see this game being so focused on making money vs making the game actually good. Expand

Lived up to the hype. The campaign will have you on the edge of your seat for literally the entire game. Voice acting was top notch. To the detractors of the COD series I say this: "Haters gon' hate..." I've played BF3, which I do appreciate... however the single player experience is EXTREMELY ho-hum, not to mention about 4-5 hours shorter than CODMW3 (Just like EA's MOH) - although the multiplayer is amazing. But you really can't fairly compare BF3 and COD's MP because they're two different animals and both great. Why can't a person like both? EA needs to take what was successful for the Battlefield Bad Co. series and implement it into the next Battlefield installment. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
