Most of the assault rifles sound the same, the map design on multiplayer is horrible, the animations are exactly the same from COD4, most of the emblems and call signs are exactly the same from mw2, all the same sound effects when you level up, same voices. The only good things about this game are the spec ops, but that's not saying very much at ALL. The campaign was also dissapointing for all the hype it was getting. It's really obvious that this game took a huge hit when half of infinity ward left. When it comes to graphics, there is only minor polish. Not much at all. Sure this game has sold insane, but now I think fans are just tired of the same old thing year after year. COD is eventually going to end up the same as guitar hero and tony hawk: a dead franchise. I read some of the user scores, and a lot of you are saying exactly what I'm saying, but yet you still give it 9s and 10s. If that doesn't scream fanboy I don't know what does. It's been a long run with COD since the beginning, but MW3 is the last COD game I will ever buy. Save your money for skyrim, arkham city, or uncharted 3. Plenty of other games out that are way better. Expand

The campaign is more of the same. You play multiple characters as you make your way through a story of what can only be described as "sensory overload" of having to move from point A to point B while shooting pockets of seemingly endless spawning bad guys. Long story short, I got the feeling of been there, done that. Even de ja' vu at times. Story won't blow your mind; however, it does do it's best to tie up loose ends in this trilogy. If you loved the previous two games, you will like this. Can be a little "samey, samey". You know, like Michael Cera's movie characters. Seen him in one movie and that is what you can expect in every single movie you will ever see him in. The multiplayer is more of the same, as well. If you like the previous games, you will like this one; but, may experience some burnout if you were on your way there in previous installments. At this point, I am digging it; but, I will see how many more "Michael Cera characters" I can stomach before it becomes just annoying. Expand

Okay, so this is my first time posting on this site and my first time ever really criticizing the call of duty franchise. To be honest, I was really hoping for something awesome here. I gave the last game they sold a pass because I thought they were just going to make up for it on this one. here's the thing, this game is exactly like the last three games I have played. So much so that it takes away from the fun and originality that could have been possible with any amount of risk taking or changes in the game. The fast-pace arcade style game just got even more fast paced, and now feels almost like a cartoon. I mean sure, when your standing still the graphics are pretty amazing, but who stands still in this game? Who even has the skills to stand still in this game? People stop caring about graphics when they are trying to rack up as many kills as possible in a constantly moving dead space. I gave it a try I really did. Maybe I'm growing old (being a huge fan of the ww2 based call of duty 3). I've seen it through the last 7 years, I've watched the COD game creators turn from genius and uninhibited fun makers, to plain Janes - who milk cows dry (for the simple fact they can).

Please, Please, Please change it up and create some kind of monument that amazes the world! Not just another paved road.

ahh why critics why did you give this game so much positive feed back the only things they did was add a map pack in the multiplayer added some tweaks to guns and killstreaks. The story line yes the game is good for the story line is good and have some memorable moments but overall its just the same game as modern warfare 2. Over all the game is a meh for me.

For those who are browsing these reviews looking at all the negatives, I advise you to ignore them. They're either trolls or people who get kicks out of venting their anger. Either way, no game deserves a 0 unless it is completely broken or unplayable from the start, which it surely isn't. With that being said, if you're thinking about getting this game, ask yourself: "do I enjoy Call of Duty multiplayer?" If the answer is yes, then you will enjoy this game. It's as simple as that. The multiplayer does have new features; they're not mindblowing, but they are there. There are new maps, weapons, perks, killstreaks, etc. Call it Modern Warfare 2.5, an expansion pack, or a clone if you wish. The fact is, the multiplayer experience was already a good system, which they improved upon. It's more accessible to new players while still retaining its appeal to hardcore players. the ONLY--and I do mean only--complaint I have of the game is concerning the maps. Most of them are small, filled with buildings that cater to CQC players such as SMG/Shotgun users.

As the old adage goes, don't fix what ain't broken.

Very hard to get killstreaks and feels way too rushed. As a fan of both MW2 and BO, i think the game's dynamics were changed too much. I would've preferred multiplayer to be just an upgrade of MW2, including changes to the levels and killstreaks and a few tweaks to the perks. The thing with franchise releases is that we learn to love them for what they are, so why change that??? This game is like the reject child of the family, rushed out too early & failing to meet 2011 benchmarks. This game feels oddly strange to play, even though it's part of the Call of Duty series it's nothing like the predecessors. Also the fact that you have to wait to level up before the better perks are available, given that you get little ammo for weapons to begin with and the perks are in the wrong sequence. Big shame to the developers of this game as it hasn't lived up to the hype. Hard to say if the franchise should make big changes or not to the series, I for one prefer just an "upgrade" rather than major changes. My vote goes to BF3 this year for the better FPS shooter. This review is based only on MW3's multiplayer. At the time of this review, I'm still only a few hours into the campaign, I haven't touched Spec Ops, but I've invested 20+ hours in multiplayer. That's how I play every Call of Duty game. I bought the game specifically for the multiplayer, and for me that was worth the $60 USD. I personally wouldn't advise anyone to buy a COD game only for the single player campaign. I always play the campaign eventually, and enjoy it, but I don't think a COD campaign is worth the full $60 USD investment. Most of the campaigns are a 10 hour, very linear, but very cinematic experience.

MW3's multiplayer is the most balanced and fully realized of all of the COD games that I've played. While we all have a particular iteration of the series that we've put the most hours into and feel the most attached to, MW3 feels the most clean and equitable after years of tweaking in the series. If you can still burn hundreds of hours on the multiplayer, or if this is your first COD game, I highly recommend it for the multiplayer experience alone. If you're burned out on COD multiplayer or never liked it to begin with, then there's no reason to buy this one.

The spec ops modes are fun but didnt keep me occupied for long.

all in all MW3 has been lazily put together over the last year to create another half arsed money making game which is really dissapointing in which 2007 MW came out and blew my mind, but anyways im sure next year activison will bring out ANOTHER piece of crap.

Its sad when a developer has to beg for positive reviews through twitter. The irony of the rush of positive reviews is that they are calling the negative reviewers fanboys. So what does it make you? You got it, a bigger fanboy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a military buff and 3 years ago decided to get a 360 to remember those days of fun playing ps2. My first real FPS was MW2. It was a great game and introduced me into a world of multiplayer gaming that I never experienced. But MW3 seems exactly like MW2. The story-line obviously had to continue but a lot of the game-play should have been revised. The part on MW3 with the flashlights that you have to duck is pretty much the same one in WaW where you had to go prone to evade some guys with flamethrowers. The sniping mission to kill Makarov, the same idea of WaW where you had to kill a general, but now in MW3 the outcome is different. Also for some reason when you get hit you flinch and your rifle blocks your vision and you cant shoot, also the grenade spamming is outrageous by putting these 2 things they make the game difficult. Essentially this is MW2.5 it should have been a DLC for 30 bucks not a full game or waited another year to release it. Multiplayer is exactly the same as always the maps are very narrow and small, vehicles and buildings are recycled from MW2 (not even a try to make a difference between the two). The initial menu on the game may have been good and easy to navigate in MW2 but come on Sledgehammer and IW at least you should have changed it completely because is the same one from MW2 but with different colors. Those things show a great deal of laziness on the part of these guys. Battlefield 3 is not a perfect game but and let be it clear I played Bad Company 2 this summer so I'm not a fan of it. But the multiplayer options to play anywhere you want is a plus MW3 doesn't have. MW3 is now a game to run run and run, do quick-scopes and keep running and killing. I would dare to say that Black Ops still is a better game. A 2 because as a fan of the series I expected more options and a different game-play style and because the story has gotten repetitive and predictable.CoD has gotten to be the same over and over and it stops to be fun. When news broke out about the whole Infinity Ward / Activision fallout over the firing of Vince Zampella and Jason West, I became very skeptical about the future of Modern Warfare 3. After playing through the campaign on Veteran and giving the online multiplayer a week of play, I must report that the skepticism was well deserved. This is by far the easiest COD I have played on VeteranWhen news broke out about the whole Infinity Ward / Activision fallout over the firing of Vince Zampella and Jason West, I became very skeptical about the future of Modern Warfare 3. After playing through the campaign on Veteran and giving the online multiplayer a week of play, I must report that the skepticism was well deserved. This is by far the easiest COD I have played on Veteran difficulty, taking a mere 6 hours to complete from beginning to end, and feels more like an interactive roller coaster ride than anything else, shooting popup targets as you go.
Multiplayer is where longevity comes into play for an FPS, and to be perfectly blunt, this is what I was most pissed off about. The fun to be had in multiplayer is evident, but the feeling that you were ripped off soon sinks in when you realize this is pretty much the same game we were playing 2 years ago with a new paint job. The new killstreaks aren't as enjoyable to play around with, all the "new" perks and weapons are just retweaks of existing COD staples (even the deathstreaks and weapon perks are just conditional perks mostly from older games). Compounding the distaste is the horrible map designs and spawn locations. The game launched with over 10 maps to play with, but the fact that most of the maps are similar in confinement and lack any real creativity is a shame.
Weapon imbalances are abound, which will hopefully be rectified via patches ala BlackOps. Some weapons such as shotguns and some smg and AR's are completely outclassed in everyway by others.

Gone are all the stats menus that came in-game with BlackOps, instead you are relegated to using Call of Duty Elite, an app for your XBox that employs clan connectivity and allows you to see in-depth stats, and of course if you want the real meat and potatoes for this app you need to pay an annual fee. The new highlight of the multiplayer is Kill Confirmed, a mode of deathmatch that tries to discourage camping by forcing players to gather tags off downed enemies in order to score. The only problem is that it actually employs camping as well, as many individuals will use the tags as bait. This is not a problem of the game itself, but the community at large who wish increase their personal kill to death ratio than actually contribute to a winning game. In conclusion, I would have felt much more comfortable paying $40 for what feels more like an expansion pack than full-fledged new game, but at the current $60 retail value you are paying too much. And considering the fact that Activision will be releasing maps packs often for this game, over the course of the year you are looking to spend atleast $90 for this game alone, even more if you are a subscriber to the COD Elite service.

I have played every CoD going all the way back to the first one on PC. MW3 is by far the worst version I've ever played. The map design is atrocious. It's very clear to me the map makers at Sledgehammer are not CoD players at all. They took MW2 and multilated it. What an absolute disappointment. My hope lies solely with Treyarch. I have played about 1h of multiplayer and I am totally sick of it! More campers than ever with a lot of 12 year old kids, way too easy to spawn kill, overpowered weapons etc. I could go on for a whole essay if I would have the energy to. There are a lot of glitches also, of course the game was just released but these are simple, easy glitches that should have been noticed instantly during the beta tests. The maps are all recycled with the same looks as earlier maps, nothing new. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was looking forward to this game even though it is a yearly release. I am still very impressed with the awe dropping performance of the single player campaign even though there were some annoying querks. For instance, shooting from the back of the truck in the chase will lead right to death once the doors are opened because the bullets were able to go through the door from the attacking Russian Humvee from behind. I got stuck in that part for a 5 hours before I had to restart the mission since I had a repetitive cycle. I could not change my strategy either because of a forced Quick time event. Dont get me wrong I like quick time events, in my opinion, they add to the cinematic experience. Something that also happened was random RPG's shooting and killing me when I am trying to kill other people that are shooting at me. I think that part needed a little more QA and that is something I didn't expect since it was never in the previous modern warefare games, the game has such high production budget with so much hype and attention to it, and not to mention 5 Activision studios putting their work in this game. Overall, I did like the Campaign though as the story was great! the cutscenes were great, and the environments look amazing as well! I have not had a chance to play spec ops mode yet, but I played a few hours of multiplayer and I was dissapointed than ever. Enemies spawn too much behind the player, so every time I am spawning there is always an enemy next to me or one that has visibility to me. That is not good because sometimes it takes a while to get used to where you and your team are after spawning. I don't think there was enough repo steps/QA in order to make sure that multiplayer functions like it should. I know it is suppose to be a fast past arcade style shooter, but you can still make it fast, balanced, and fair. One thing about this game as a mechanic or feedback loop that I hate is when I get shot, and I try to shoot back simultaneously and I cant because my upper body seems to want to jolt up when I get shot to prevent from shooting back. This makes no sense to me and it is completely unnatural. Even though the single player was solid besides a few placed quick time events and random RPG one hit kills that happened too often...It is a mediocre game compared to the first and second Modern Warfare games. Innovation and time would have been better, as well as making a longer single player and/or more spec ops missions. The other part that kills this game is lack of PC support (hence why pc sales did bad) for graphics and for ranked dedicated servers. This game is not worth $60. Expand

When I got the game and instantly hopped onto it, I got what I expected, the same experience from all the other Call of Duty games I have come to enjoy. What I am disappointed in is the fact that this Game felt more like a content pack than a full game. I feel like I've just wasted $40 on a bit of reskinning, a couple new weapons and attachments, a recycled story concept, and some original multiplayer maps maps. While the game is fun to play, and shares the same addictivity as the other games in the series, I found that it felt dated in both the gameplay and presentation departments. There were no new additions to the multiplayer system, aside from the two types of kill streaks, and a game mode literally ripped from Halo Reach's headhunter mode. Initially I thought that the Weapons Proficiencies were a good idea, it took me about 2 minutes to realize that it was simply the MW1 and MW2 weapons systems simply retooled, tweaked and given a nice sugar glaze coat for the public. The graphics, while they are sill good, are dated. While activision manages to keep the framerate steady at XX fps (whatever it is), it appears that they sacrificed the overal model texturing and antiailiasing, instead relying upon epic moments to make up for graphics deficiencies. Overall, while I do like the game, it's lack of innovations and recycled elements detract from the "bang for your buck" value of the $60 purchase, leaving something that feels like it would have fit better in a $30 DLC or expansion pack. But what Modern Warfare 3 manages to accomplish is to rehash the same game - yet again - and expect me to shell out sixty dollars for it.

For starters, they have the nerve on trying to force the single player campaign down my throat. Since Modern Warfare 2, the single player campaigns have felt like filler, being there simply because it's expected to be there. My time with the campaign was short lived, as I didn't find it particularly enjoyable by any means necessary.

Moving on, I decided to go to the bread and butter of the game: the multiplayer. I'll admit to enjoying Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2, as I did find them fun. However, my time with multiplayer in MW3 was absolutely horrid. The menus lagged, the game almost froze up on me, and when I finally entered a game, I was having terrible framerate issues. No, I did not install it on my hard drive, but such a problem to exist when it's literally one of the selling points they've been throwing out there for the past several months is unacceptable.

I've since returned my copy, and don't plan on picking this game up ever again.

Overall, I'd find some other game to play, specifically one that runs on an advertised framerate.

At the end of the day, COD is COD and other shooters like BF3 are different. Its like comparing Need for Speed to Forza 4, anyone with knowledge of the genre can tell you those games while with similar structure, differ insanely. The point is this COD train has already gone far off the tracks, and cannot be stopped. Every year now a new one in the series HAS to come out. So obviously, with a game based around what is essentially a point and click system with different colored walls to spice things up, asking for great innovation in between titles is a foolhardy notion. This game, like or hate the rest of the series, is the most solid well rounded of the titles. Sure the campaign was over the top, and was basically an endless corridor run, but the set pieces were interesting enough to keep me interested for the 5hr to beat it. Multiplayer is what these games are bought and played for, and in this regard this game shines. Spawns were greatly fixed from BO and the killstreaks have not only been toned down, but are now tailored to your play-style in terms of when and what you receive mid-match. The spec-ops mode extend the games value further. And if you have a bud to sit down with these missions are not to be overlooked.
In review, if you like to play your shooters alone, or at least lone wolf most of the time, go with COD. If your a team-based kind of player than BF3 might be a better choice. But don't knock COD because it hasn't 'evolved' or 'changed' over the years, what series has? Halo? Gears? Resistance? Killzone? All of these titles see little bone structure change between installments, only their graphics, weapons, and environments have been altered. If you want a varied and ever-changing genre, buy an Iphone, or get into the RPG scene. As shooters i believe will be emulating this game for many years to come.

I found myself, like with previous Call of Duty titles, pushing myself to play the campaign, rather than wanting to. And, the ending isn't nearly as satisfying as it should be. Then there's Spec Ops, which can be played in co-op, or if you don't know another human, alone. The missions are basically the same as Modern Warfare 2, not too interesting, but still somewhat satisfying to beat. There's also survival which is just a two-player, simplified zombie mode, and really isn't that great. It's not as in-depth as zombies was, and due to only two players, not nearly as exciting. But, of course with any first-person shooter, the main component is multi-player, and while it may be decent, it's surely not worth $60. There's a couple new game modes like Team Defender (TDM, with a grabbable flag that doubles team score) and Kill Confirmed (when a player dies, they drop dog tags, grab these to score points). As with every Call fo Duty title, it tries to reel you in with new guns, perks and killstreaks, making you think it was a $60 well spent. The guns as usual are fairly unbalanced, you have overpowered weapons (like the Type 95, RIOT shield and pretty much any gun with a modded controller) and useless guns (like the M16A4, LMG's and shotguns). There are some cool guns like an air burst grenade launcher, but like the crossbow/ballistic knife (Black Ops) and Javelin , they're just pointless additions in a poor cry for attention. There aren't any new, interesting perks, besides Cold Blooded being split into two perks (which many people complained that it was overpowered in Black Ops). Killstreaks are the only really revamped feature. There are three types of killstreaks now: Assault (Kill-based, helicopters, airstrikes, missiles etc.), Support (UAV's, EMP's, Stealth Bombers etc., this streak doesn't end unless you switch classes) and Specialist (Get a new perk at certain intervals). While Support had the right idea, encouraging players to rush objectives for score as soon as possible, without worrying about dying. This encouraged players to keep moving and help their team as much as possible. However, Assault and Specialist still pose the issue of camping, rewarding players with overpowered items for staying alive is a clear issue, as it's much easier to stay alive while sitting in a corner, then when sitting, exposed, on an objective. Thus, with the inclusion of the Support Strike Package, there is less camping, but it's still an issue with the other Strike Packages, which generally offer better, kill-based, rewards. The multiplayer is still fast-paced, but actually too much so. You still spawn out of your enemies' asses so you can insta-kill knife them in the back, or get knifed yourself. Objectives are still ignored by the majority fo players, who are more interested in stacking killstreaks and maintaining a high KD ratio. And if you're looking for a team-based game, look away. Don't be fooled by the team modes, there is no teamwork required to succeed in this game, and more times then not, rather then being helped by teammates, you're being called a **** and told to kill yourself for "getting in his way". Call of Duty is getting stale, there are hardly any worthwhile additions each year, if you're lookign for a fun game to play with friends, go get Halo: Reach or Battlefield 3. The private matches offer a few new options, but in the end, are less customizable then Black Ops was, and custom games in Halo are still much better, no contest. The game promotes camping, is the same with a new coat of paint as the last entry (every year, not just Mw3) and really isn't any fun anymore. I would love to see a Call of Duty title that took more than a couple years of work, has a lot of new, worthwhile entries and really reworks the entire multiplayer system. Is Modern Warfare 3 worth buying? If you have Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops, there's no reason to spend $60 on this, I learned that the hard way. If you're looking for a new game, go check out Battlefield 3. It has learning curve, but give it a chance, it's much more worthy of your hard-earned money than this rushed, and under-developped expansion pack for a two-year old game. Expand

The single player campaign was okay. It tied up the loose ends from the previous two COD MW games. I haven't tried Spec Ops yet. The MP is typical COD fare with a few new interesting game types. I really like the "Kill Confirmed" game type and the new strike packages. I feel that the game allows players to customize to their playing style with the different strike packages.

It's the same exact game you have been playing for the last 4 years. You've got to be kidding me, why is this game 60$? To me it doesn't make sense to keep releasing a new game every year when the games are rushed; it feels as though every COD is a cash-in. Quit wasting your money with this game.

Call of duty. It's good, it'f fun, it's the same as it was in the original MW. While it's fun and good to play there is almost nothing really new here. If you've played any other call of duty, then you've played this. If you haven't then this is a great game.

The original game was a genre-defining masterpiece, and whilst the second chapter never lived up to that standard, still it was far from a poor game. That being the case it would take something very special indeed to disappoint this time around surely. Sadly, that's exactly what we got, an incredibly disappointing game that bears no relation to the games that have preceded it. It is a pale imitation of the former glories of the Modern Warfare series, a very cheap knock-off. There are three core elements of gameplay;

    1. Single player campaign - this is actually pretty good, and in most ways is actually far superior to the campaign in Modern Warfare 2. Gameplay is varied to a degree, and a satisfying resolution to the story started in CoD4 is provided. 2. Spec-Ops (co-op) - what they'd done here is take the spec-ops missions from Modern Warfare 2 and split it out - half of the game is the traditional spec-ops objective-based missions, the other half, "survival" is a poor attempt at a Modern Warfare equivalent of Treyarch's "zombie mode". I'm afraid it's incredibly dull and loses what little appeal it has very quickly. It's incredibly easy and you'll find yourself getting to round 20 before it even starts to provide a challenge. 3. Multiplayer Campaign - frankly, this is why most people buy these games, and I'm afraid Modern Warfare is a complete and utter mess. If you bought into the hype then it sounded great - no game-ending nuke, no infinite sprint, no infinite noob-tubes via OMA (in fact noob-tubes were even going to be nerfed!), gone was the commando 'death lunge/stab' - it sounded great. Unfortunately, it's all irrelevant. The maps are incredibly mundane with little variety. Judged against their CoD4 and MW2 counterparts they're incredibly poorly designed. That's just the start of the problems - hit detection appears to be way off. Again. You'll find yourself shot around corners far more often than you've ever been before on any of the other CoD games. There's also an extraordinary amount of lag, particularly when you're hosting. Rumours abound of 'lag compensation' which automatically screws whoever is hosting. Whether or not this is true, I don't know. I just know that when I'm hosting, it says I've got a 4 bar connection, yet the lag makes it almost unplayable. In conclusion, after this shambles of a game I can't seriously see myself buying another CoD game. Activision clearly couldn't care less about fans, otherwise they'd never have let fake IW and Sledgehammer games get away with such shoddy testing. Any amount of focused testing should have driven out all of the issues that currently blight the game. The fact that they're in there leads you to wonder if they even bothered to test it at all. A terrible game that barely deserves to be considered a Call of Duty game. Activision should be ashamed that they've hoodwinked so many people into buying what is essentially a broken game.

In my opinion Modern Warfare 3 is a $60 map and gun pack for Modern Warfare 2 (MW2 is also a map and gun pack for Call of Duty 4) that has a horde mode taken from Gears of War 2 and a very short and boring story. The Online part of the game has the same problems as MW2 where you have enemies spawning on you and bad maps to play on.

The online multiplayer in this series has always been really fun, or so I thought, I've become a bit older since this series started and not every friend I used to play with is available all the time to play this game with me. What I found out is that I can't stand playing this game alone without another friend with me, when I run around and kill the other players, I get no satisfaction, even if I get a killstreak. I need one of my friends to talk to, about anything that pops up in our minds, I love it when we trashtalk the other players, and get them frustrated, or just trashtalking eachother. It gives me a thrill, but when I play alone, I hate it like the pest itself.
Which I find wierd, since I got no problem playing Halo Reach or BF3 online all alone, of course these games also becomes better when played with friends, but I can still play them alone.
MW3 is a great game to play with friends because of its fast paced action and killstreaks, but is overall a really bad game. I give it a 5 because it's actually fun to play with friends, but no good game should require me playing with friends to make it a fun experience, playing with friends should be an extra fun bonus.
If Halo and Battlefield can do it, so should MW3 be able to do it.

Btw, Bowling if you're reading this, you are such a troll (e.g. the "ecstatic" announcement of Last Stand being removed, then leaving Final Stand in). There are still weapon imbalances, but at least the support for the game by the devs is much better compared to MW2, though that's not saying much considering the debacle that occurred during MW2's post release. Speaking of support, the support strike package is absolutely devastating in the hands of good players. Killstreaks are pretty much nullified in this game due to map design, great team players with Stingers, and the ability to scroll through your killstreaks so you'll save that EMP for when you really need it.

Aesthetically, the game is pretty much a copy+paste. If, by any chance, this is your first time playing CoD since MW1, you won't get lost. At all. If you jump from MW2 to MW3, the only difference you'll notice is that the backdrop of the menus is a darker shade of grey. Graphically, there is little to no difference, which is inevitable since they're still using the same engine since MW1.

The campaign was rather forgettable. Then again, it was pretty hard to top the MW1 campaign, but more action-packed set pieces after action packed set pieces kind of nullifies the player to such spectacles since the saying "you've seen them once, you've seen them all" applies here. Only exemption is the collapsing of the Eiffel Tower, nothing against the French. Spec Ops is pretty fun, as the missions offer a different take on the scenarios players experienced in the campaign. Survival's leveling up system is a welcome addition, as it gives players incentive to play on as the unlocks really help to survive the later stages. Overall, is the game deserving of the hate? That's arguable, as I'm sure considerable efforts could've been made to really move the game forward. The budget shouldn't be a concern, for obvious reasons. It's really a love it, hate it kind of deal, but more incorporation of community feedback would be welcome. After all, consumers purchase their games, and they're the ones to please. Complaining about metacritic scores is one thing, failing to act upon constructive criticism is another. While the latter is evident, it is still sufficiently lacking.

Yes its similar but hey, thats what Call of Duty is. If it aint broke, why change it? The campaign is fantastic (still to short though) and multiplayer is fun but still gets frustrating (damn you little kids with nothing better to do). In my opinion if I could take MW3's single player and combine it with BF3's multiplayer, then I would have the greatest FPS of the year. And one more thing, stop with all of the 0's. You know that this game is not a 0. Since you took the time to sign up, why not take the time to give it a score that actually reflects the game. And you know what, I got something else to say. Don't give MW3 a 0 just because your a BF3 fanboy and dont give BF3 a 0 just because your a MW3 fanboy. Grow up and recognize the achievements and faults of both games. Why pick just one game to cheer for? Dont be so narrow minded and cynical. Expand

Killing the game industry. Un-innovative trash that should not be celebrated or purchased. This series needs to go away as soon as possible, it's tarnishing Blizzard's deservingly good reputation.

First of all, all of the people in here that are giving this game a 0 out of 10, get out. I don't think I've ever run across a game that's truly that bad. You people say that the singleplayer is ok, yet you give it a 0? STOP SKEWING THE REVIEWS!! With that out of the way, I can get to the review. No this game isn't the best CoD game ever, nor is it the worst. The Singleplayer campaign isFirst of all, all of the people in here that are giving this game a 0 out of 10, get out. I don't think I've ever run across a game that's truly that bad. You people say that the singleplayer is ok, yet you give it a 0? STOP SKEWING THE REVIEWS!! With that out of the way, I can get to the review. No this game isn't the best CoD game ever, nor is it the worst. The Singleplayer campaign is what you would come to expect from a Call of Duty game. A game with moments that make you feel like you are watching an intense action movie. Yes it is a bit short, but I don't want to play 15 hours of Shoot em'up in the desert. So SP gets a 7 out of 10. Special Ops is the same as MW2 and different at the same time. Survival mode is an interesting new game mode, but nothing we haven't seen in Horde or Firefight in GOW or Halo respectively. It isn't something you'll be playing for hours on end trying to get to the next wave, it just doesn't have that appeal. The missions in Spec Ops are the same that you would see in MW2, a few on the ground, a few in the air, and a few collecting data or what not. Fun but once again, not something you'll be playing for more than a few hours or coming back to again and again. So Spec Ops gets a 6/10 from me. Now let's tackle the real reason millions of people buy Call of Duty games, the multiplayer. First off, the people that are saying it's an expansion pack to MW2 are just plain wrong. There are at least 15 new weapons and 16 NEW MAPS!! A total new killstreak system and some new gametypes totally render that argument obsolete. With that said, why fix a core multiplayer when millions of people loved MW2? I guarantee you if they totally revamped the MP the same people would be complaining that it was too different, so there really is no pleasing you guys. That said, if you didn't look at the title you would have a hard time telling the difference between MW2 and MW3 graphics. Activision might have cut some corners in that respect. A few things I've noticed about the MP is that there aren't enough complex and wide open maps, too many CQB maps. A few too many overpowered dominating weapons (Type 95, MP7). And grenades are a little too underpowered. That being said there are plenty of changes to LOVE from MW2. First, the idea of pointstreaks is brilliant, it encourages team play and lets players who arent going to get 10 kills in a row still able to help the team in some way. Second the idea of adding weapon XP in addition to regular XP is also smart, and not those ridiculous challenges for 1000 headshots with every gun. (Honestly who does that?) Third, the fact that they made grenade launchers "noobtubes" as ineffective as they are might be one of the smartest and series saving moves a developer has ever made. SOOOO many people were turned off at MW2 because all 12 people were using them. All in all the MP is in a way the same but also in a way a totally new and refreshing experience. If you didn't like Cod multiplayer before you're not going to like it now, and if you were one of the many that did, I think you will really enjoy this new take on killstreaks. MP gets an 8/10. So contrary to all of the people saying it's not worth 60 dollars, it is definitely worth 60 dollars. Modern Warfare 3 won't blow you away like MW2 did, but it makes enough subtle changes to earn the right to be called MW3 and not MW2.5. Overall this game would get a 7 out of 10 from me. Expand

CoD 4. An excellent game with fun multiplayer. Then there's CoD 5 which was alright. MW2, kinda average but still the same as MW1. And now, the imaginatively named Modern Warfare 3 comes out and is set to look pretty good. Right. I knew from the very beginning that it would just be a recycled version of MW2. And guess what. It was. This game is immensely disappointing, and it simply does not set the standard set by recent FPS' such as Battlefield 3. The multiplayer is absolutely mind-numbing. Everyone uses the same weapon and perk, everyone has the same tactics, honestly, Counter-Strike 1.6 was a more tactical game than this!
The single player is as boring as usual. I barely concentrated through it, I was too busy wondering when I would play a decent game. I believe this game is a mere recycle of the past 3 games. The thing is though, that is what some reviewers say about Skyward Sword, the thing with Zelda though, is the formula is a good one. As they used to say "if it aint broke, don't fix it". This term can apply to games like Pokemon, Zelda, Mario and Metroid games, the formula generally stays the same, but the formula is a good one. However, MW3 is broke, and it is in desperate need of fixing. I will not hesitate to say that Infinity Ward has put absolutely no effort into this game at all, they have not bothered to add new elements to entice players, ore any new gameplay changes. And yet, the moronic and frustrating fan-base continue to praise this game because they A.) have not played any other games. B.) Are generally 10-16 year-olds who know nothing of what it means to be a gamer, and C.) Like to watch guns go boom in people's faces.
I am disgusting at the poor effort put into this shoddy game, yet no doubt Infinity Ward will think they have achieved something and release map-packs for the low price of $25 for 5 maps. I take my hat to Infinity Ward, as they have managed to con and scam millions of idiots into buying the same game. Go think of something new to do Infinity Ward, maybe banking is more your style? Repetitive and boring, yet somehow, you earn enormous amounts of money.

But this perspective has subsided with MW3, but before I continue I have to admit that I have already played and completed Battlefield 3's campaign, and I have to admit both BF3 and MW3 impressed, but I do prefer BF3 overall - but this is my review of MW3 so I'll highlight what I enjoyed during my latest Call of Duty experience, and also what I feel lets it down.

My main criticism of past cod games is that they never seem to have memorable characters, and even though the primary characters in MW3 are for the most part familiar I think during the course of the campaign they are far better developed, which helps immerse you deeper into the story and gameplay. Lets face it the story is so far fetched beyond comprehension, but it had me wanting more and keeping me on my toes with the different surroundings and locales - which were very impressive.

From a technical perspective MW3 doesn't break any new ground in the visual department, but that's not to say it's not a pleasantly looking game. It is however technically sound with regards to textures and non existent screen tearing, plus I didn't experience any slow-down during the more epic battles, but I do think the overall pace and weapon sounds need some work. I like a well presented game and feel the menu system, as with previous cod games, lack in presentation. The font used in game and each of the menu screens is related to the series but I feel it needs revamping as it feels cheap and outdated. But this is a minor criticism and doesn't impact on the gameplay whatsoever.

I'm not big on multiplayer these days, but what I have played is pretty much what I expected. It's solid, although like with many other people it is the habits of other players rather than the game itself that make the experience less enjoyable. The term 'camper' is what i associate with any Call of Duty release with regards to muliplayer, and yet again I have had to put up with their lack of gamership. I'm sure they could devise a playlist or gametype that could eliminate this plague and make the experience a more fulfilled one?... On the positive though the familiar ranking and experience system remains, meaning if you are unlucky enough be listed with a bunch of gamers that can't rack up the kills for the team, then you are not penalized too heavily for carrying your team to another glorious defeat.

All in all I enjoyed the campaign and have the need to play through it again on the highest difficulty, so I will certainly get the full value from the £25 offer Tesco sucked me into!

Mabye not revolutionizing FPS's, but has the most detailed and balanced multiplayer of any COD. A good solid campaign and return of spec ops mode make this a package with enough features to keep coming back to in the next few months. Certainly not the best in a stand out autumn of games, but lack of originality doesn't automatically make it the worst either.

7.5 at an absolute push, MW3 to me was a disappointment, and unless Activision allow the developers to take some innovative new directions, will be sign posted as the beginning of the once great COD franchise's decline.

Allow me to backup ever so slightly and elaborate on why I believe this was such a let down. I will start by saying this review applies to about 87% of the total content of the game, which is the multiplayer portion. I did not touch the campaign, as i suspect the majority of players buying the game will not either.

Graphically the game is just fine. Users on this site claiming it looks poor or outdated are over exaggerating, as the game looks perfectly current (in terms of console comparisons) whilst not as impressive as i found in BF3 or Crysis 2. It's smooth and runs at the staple 60fps although does feel a incy wincy little bit like a MW2 re-skin, however this is not a bad thing as that game looked great too.

The overall game play is your standard COD fare, which is great if your a hardcore COD fan, that is to say guns kill quick (faster than BLOPs and appears slightly quicker than MW2), customised classes, kill-streaks (slightly revises and coming in 3 flavours essentially offense, defense, show off) and cluttered maps that allow your usual run and gunners or your "tactical" campers.

What i found lacking was only a couple of new game modes; kill confirmed is a variation on team death match and involves picking up a dog tag to score a point after killing someone. The maps were all mediocre and not nearly appealing to play the first time around as was the case in MW2. Having perks that remove recoil also reduces the competitiveness when using that weapon as you essentially have a weapon that is easier to aim with than a low level player new to the game.

In summary, i will say that the majority of you guys interested in supplying yourself with another COD fix will be satisfied and will find loads to keep you busy. If your after something different and more competitive, then get battlefield 3.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is fun, but more of the same from the explosive formula that came from the first Modern Warfare. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
