I remember a day when games came out with expansion packs that only cost a fraction of the base game's price. Now, thanks to Call of Duty they are able to pass expansion packs off as sequels and charge full price. MW3 should change it's title to MW1.3 since it's nothing but the same recycled content we paid for in 2007 when Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released.

So the MW3 Devs wanted me to review the game if I liked it? Well to sum it up, no I don't.

They've used the same engine for 5 years and they're just stealing your money now. But if you feel like throwing your money at crappy games then MW3

Dont listen to these reviews. If you liked MW2 you'll love MW3. The Campaign is the best campaign in any COD ever made. I agree with the MW 2.5 aspect but im perfectly fine with MW 2.5. They took out all the garbage that was in MW2 and made it a more gun on gun game. No 2nd chance, No one man army no command perks.

You're probably asking yourself, "Why is this such an insult?", and the simplest answer i can give you is that aside from "strike packages" and "survival",nothing has changed. I would put the value of this game at a expensive DLC for MW2. Despite the fact that the game has a new campaign it is incredibly short, I beat it on veteran in under 5 hours. Not to mention the fact that it is almost impossible to not see what is going to happen next, and just about every level consists of shooting hordes of enemy troops that come out of every alleyway, skylight, or some other incredibly obvious route of attack. In only a few levels are you doing anything else (I wont say what specifically but i promise you it is nothing new to this franchise). Getting back to multiplayer, the addition of strike packages is no significant feat and the incredibly unbalanced "support" strike packages destroy the experience, where it is a significant feat to get a juggernaut suit with the assault strike package, the support juggernaut suit doesn't get an M60 but instead a riot shield and USP which makes your very formidable regardless and you dont have to get every kill on a single life you can die as much as you like and on top of this objectives count towards whatever you have on this class. Lastly Spec Ops "Survival" is a very easy "copy paste" job of multiplayer maps with units spawning in waves and simply given the AI that is used in campaign which consists mainly of charge into the player and shoot. It feels like a feeble attempt to copy treyarch's success with zombies. Then your regular spec ops missions are recycled campaign maps with a few changes. Then off to the side of the game itself you have the "Elite" service which can run you just as much as the game itself, which as of now is very buggy and the lack of dedicated servers for multiplayer is simply being cheap (Don't we love it when someone rage quits from the middle of a game and he happens to be host and you lose all progress made during that match). If you're looking to buy the same thing you bought 2 years ago feel free but I implore you to not feed this shoddy remake, it simply isn't worth your time or respect. Expand

I'll have to admit I was a little disappointed at first. Yeah, it's same thing over but why mess with perfection. Call of duty is the best multi-player game. Players don't blend into the environment like alot of games out there. You know your hitting someone with the best hit detection in a game. All round this game was worth every penny. This game is not worth money. It's the same as CoD 4, with only few changes. The graphics are dated because of the very old game engine. The only new thing, single player, is about 3-4 hours long and very linear and has annoying spawning enemies. Save your money for something else.

I hold out a lil hope that there will be at least a map pack that includes mw2 maps, which were quite fun to play. I dont know if it is because of the infancy of the game or what but the connection issues are disturbing and really disappointing. Again, MW2 seemed to be so smooth compared to these last two. If this game-play could have been added to the MW2 maps and servers/matchmaking/etc i think it would have been a home run, however we are left a lil disappointed once again. MW3 is lacking in a couple areas that make this game not even enjoyable for me. The problems for me are the overall pace of the multiplayer experience, the layout of the maps, and the idea that adding more non essential filler to the multiplayer experience.

Over the last couple of days I have had no good or special feeling about any one of the multiplayer maps over another one. It is shocking to me that all the maps seem to be uninteresting at best. I challenge you to go through the maps and compare them against the COD4 map set. You will be astonished, no doubt, that COD4 offers a much more distinct feeling to each map. Each one feels fun and the combat flows differently in each map. I made sure this was not just a feeling of nostalgia by going back and reviewing each map and even playing COD4. MW3 maps all seem to be almost forcing some sort of "meta" which some have said kills sniper or long range play. I agree for the most part, there is no epic sense of a level, they feel all the same cluttered mess of non interesting set pieces. Ever since COD4 (which I still believe was the top of the franchise to date) map levels and layouts have gone downhill.

The pace of the maps (what I consider to be a result of bad spawning and map layout) is even higher than that of MW2. Yes, some may love this run and gun, turning corners, firing from the hip, and quick scoping. I don't mind this play in any sense. It is the fact that you do not have the option of diverting from this forced game play other than camping. This I feel will calm down as we get to be more familiar with maps and the spawns, yet judging and looking to the future based of the maps and my experience so far, I see it being an issue, even if a fraction of what it is currently. Think about COD4, W@W, or even MW2 to a degree. Many, even a majority, of the maps had a distinct layout to them that suggested key points, buildings, or start points. Like in paintball, or most competitive events, you know what you are going against and how to set up strategies to be successful. I feel, and this is my opinion, that every where you go, there is a corner or something blocking you forward progression, in order to force CQC. Almost every area has more than one flanking route. Add this on top of small and/or cluttered maps with crazy spawn mechanics, well you get the picture.

Ok, this last issue is more of a rant and not a game breaker to me. Never the less I will address my opinion on it. Every COD that comes out is almost entirely focused on being "crazier" than the last. Look at the progression of kills and customization that has ensued since the game breaking COD4. It started with the set kill streaks, and guns that unlocked. Now it is at three sets of customized kill streaks going 15+ on kill streaks, with so many ways to level up etc. Many point this out as the reason for it being justified as a new experience worthy of the retail box+price. In my humble and honest opinion, I don't care about nonsense like this. I loved COD4 for the epic team battles, diverse levels, and over sense of excitement. Yes kill streaks were part of that equation, but they were not any way the meat and potatoes of it. I feel like they add and add but forgot where they came from in this endeavor. My opinion.

All in all, this is why I feel like MW3 is a letdown to say the very least. More so, I feel it deserves a 7.5 at the best, although realistically I would give it a 6. Being, not only is it nothing new, but I feel (emphasis on my opinion) that it has brought it self down an extra notch for trying to force maps and dump endless customization as compensation for lack of innovation. I will still play it and enjoy it for what it IS. I will give it a couple weeks for it to set in, but this is the first game in the series that has cause me so much disappointment to actually post online. :) If my experience goes on like it is currently, then I will go back to a prior COD game, hence the 6.

My credentials as a gamer: Played since pre-Nintendo. FPS shooters include but not limited to Golden Eye, All COD series owned and played. Played BF since 1942, Had epic COD 2 and 3 and Halo LAN Matches at my house. Love CS, team fortress, DoD, and many other HL mods. Played Planet Side since launch. Original Op Flashpoint and AA. Plus more :) Thanks for the read, feel free to hate on me or comment :) Plus I am married and have a Financial bachelors degree from Indiana University.

More like Modern Warefare 2 expansion. Jumping into the single player feels just like you've been here before. Nothing fresh which you would hope to expect. The graphics are not an improvement at all.
Jumping into multiplayer will make you want to jump out once the attack helicopters start coming every second.

Other people that i've talked to think that the game is aweful, rubbish, etc, and i then asked them if they've played it and they answered "NO". So how can they criticise the game. The campaign mode is awesome, when you start playing it, you just need to know whats going to happen. I was disappointed that "SOAP" died in the campaign, as he was one of the best characters in the game, but that, in my right opinion is the only bad thing that happens in the game. I can understand why Infinity Ward killed SOAP off, but i think it wasn't really necessary. In terms of online, you could say its same old same old, but there are a lot of changes that make the online better, eg strikes packages, weapons, amazing maps, game modes, for example Kill Confirmed. Reviewers are also saying that the graphics are bad? How are they bad ?
Overall i think Infinity Ward and co have produced the game of the year again, and i congratulate them for doing this, and very much look forward to the DLC, and other NEW features that are still to come.

Sure, they don't bring much new to the plate, but I bought it because I like Call of Duty games, not because I thought it was going to be some amazing innovative new game. So I think people should chill out. We knew it wasn't going to be innovative, and we knew it was going to practically be an overpriced expansion of Modern Warfare 2. Overrated as a retail release.
Would be rated higher as an expansion pack or dlc.
It does what it does well, if you like a no brains approach to shooters than this game does very well. All of the campaign missions have a 'follow me' design to them , even the stealth missions do not let you diverge from your 'follow me' leader, who strings you along every mission in some form or another.

This game to me has only become good when playing with a group of friends. It's sickening to see someone coming around a corner, aim down your sights and shoot them only to be killed by them, then when watching the kill cam it shows that apparantly they got a 5 shot head start on you. Or being shot at, running behind a wall, only to die from delayed and horrible hit detection. In MW I feel as if I should always bring a knife to a gun battle, it's ridiculous attempting to kill someone who is even remotely close to you, cuz all you'll see is a quick movement and then... death... a knife kill from 5 feet away... ask somebody in the military, if you're 5 feet away from someone, in order to "knife" them you'd have to lunge at them... unrealistic knifing. If you want to knife someone in MW then they need to add a struggle system, make people work to get knife kills just like we have to do with guns. How about this sweet flaw that has yet to be fixed: I die... I spawn and take 7 steps before being killed from behind... How about setting up designated spawn areas for both teams with NO spawn camping, hell if u need to, add turrets near each spawn that kill any enemy trying to camp around them, point is, get rid of spawn camping and get rid of enemies spawning behind us for easy kills! This game is frustrating on so many levels. I am in no way an elite player, but I consider myself a really good player, however, if you play with random people who know all the camping spots and know the hit detection and auto-aim really well, you will literally be destroyed and made to look like an amateur. Battlefield 3 is my game of choice between the two. I can play Battlefield with friends and myself, but MW3 is a game I only group up with friends for, that way, when I start getting pissed, somebody can crack a joke and keep the mood fun. So my suggestion, if you havent given BF3 a chance, go out and do so. The aiming is better, the maps are better, and skill truly shows in that game. In BF3 my KD is a 2.7 and I run and gun, in MW3 I am a 1.37. Expand

$60 for recycled content, the same small maps and a 10 year old graphics engine. $50 more for a leaderboard service that's given to gamers for free with other games. Sounds like a scam to me.

Terrible campaign, enemies infinitely respawn, and run past your AI partners just to kill you. The spec ops mode is uninspired and dull, and the maps for online multiplayer might as well have been a download map pack. Definitely not worth 60 dolars and its getting old really fast releasing a game year after year, running on the same graphic engine and not changing any of the gameplay mechanics.

Even when having a really good round I dont get the same enjoyment as I did in BO's as I assume my lag was less than my opponents. I have not even gone into theatre mode as nothing in any of my games has made me want to review it, which is a shame as i spent hours in BO's making cool videos to show friends on-line. It feels as though we have been sold MW2 with Black Op's online issues and as they never fixed BO's they will probably never fix this. Pity. Expand

While MW3 may be fun for 15 dollars I don't like to pay sixty dollars for map packs. Other than new maps all this game brings to the table is a campaign that doesn't know the word juxtaposition, new guns, and new perks. I remember when a sequel to a game used to be a new experience not a rehashed slightly prettier game. Overall just not worth it to the average consumer

The voice comms are scrambled, the local search option has been removed, the dive to prone option has been removed, and the mechanics of the game mean that the host advantage is significant making for some very frustrating games. Seems to have all the same glitches as MW2 at launch. People putting button images in clan tags, glitches to get under the maps, being able to use sniper rifles like one shot kill assualt rifles due to being able to 'quick scope'. These things should never make it out of testing. The couple of new game types in MP are good though, kill confirmed and team defender.
As for the single player again this is poor. It's basically 80% cut scene. Just because you can control the player doesn't make it any less of a cut scene. Even played through on Veteran it's a breeze.
The only redeeming feature seems to be survival mode. It's basically the MW3 version of Zombies. This would have benefited from allowing more than 2 players though.
This is also the first title to integrate with Elite. That has been a complete disaster and over a week after launch it's still not working properly. How they expect people to actually pay money is beyond me. The fact that people are paying says a lot about the power of the COD franchise.
Overall a poor and lazy effort. Absolutely no new ideas here, a rehash of MW2 with worse maps.

Same thing*, different day. It´s been the same formula for what, seven sequels? Playing Call of Duty it´s like being in Truman Show - you are a mere spectator in a big budget Michael Bay show, always following someone who´s telling you what to do. The Call of Duty series is creating a whole generation of dumb players. What a shame.

Year after year, the next release of the new Call of Duty is so highly anticipated but every year, the game seems to disappoint. Why the gaming community even supports this mutilation of this once great series is the only thing that surprises me. Gameplay is formulaic and unoriginal. The learning curve is incredibly low which leads to incredibly frustrating game mechanics. Killstreaks are overpowered and most perks only add to the problem. The game is literally just a remake of modern warfare 2 with several new skins. Maps feel hastily assembled and weapons don't give you the same feeling that firing weapons in Call of Duty 4 did. Ever since World at War, Call of Duty has not been on a steady, but very, very sharp decline. Coming from a member of the PC community, we have largely been ignored and tossed aside. Customization and modifications are impossible to accomplish anymore and everything that made Call of Duty 4 from a good game into a great game are missing from MW3. The only thing worth getting this game for is the Single Player which isn't amazing either. It has a very low replay value and lasts a very short 6 hours. The money you spend on this game could go to a great deal of other games that deliver the true gaming experience that many have been searching for in Call of Duty. The game is lucky it's getting a 1 out of 10. I'm currently in the process of running through the Campaign, and I keep thinking to myself "What's even happening right now?". I'm essentially playing it to get the achievements and get back to Battlefield 3. It's MW2 repackaged, same gun sounds, same computer animations, and same gameplay just in Africa instead of the Favella's of MW2.

The single player is OK but nothing great, they basically rip off MW2 and lets not forget in MW2 they basiucally ripped off MW1. I got the game based on the previous games but honestly this time round they just copied the previous game and changed names and places. The ending is complete tosh too, I didnt even realise it was the end until the credits rolled. To sum up, average single player, great multiuplayer if it would only f*cking work. With all the money that these games make you would think they would actually use some to improve the game (for example, improving their engine). This game is completely deprived of any innovation. Games should be about pushing the boundaries of technology and attempting new things, instead they simply stick to the same formula and recycle the same game, yet get more millions and awards every time. Its games like Skyrim in which developers like Bethesda try and push the limits, increase innovation and thrive to not only simply tweak things but completely overhaul their engine, put their profits into making something new, more immersion and deep in order to create these stunning environments which capture the player and feel like an entirely new game. Though CoD isn't an RPG it could take some pointers from a company like Bethesda in order to not keep providing the same game but come out of the 'safe' zone and try to make something better/new. I think if this franchise keeps going like this it will meet the end of its product cycle. I for one will not be getting another, I already have one and some spare copies. At least its a good feeling knowing if Modern Warfare 2 breaks I have another copy of it (Modern Warfare 3).

Bare in mind this review is only to make a point, I am sure much hard work goes into the campaign side of things (story, acting, etc) but my review focuses on the lack of 'new' features and innovation which equate to it feeling disappointing.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
