The maps are TERRIBLE. very very small and always located around and within buildings. What happened to the OPEN maps like MW2!!!! And lastly, what did they change the "mute" option in the lobby. Instead of just being able to mute people really fast by clicking "A" and then "A". Now you have to select the person and scroll down to mute.

    **** this game...I'm buying BF3

Is a terrible game, I hate when the camera moves when you shoot, also the multiplayer has enough errors as bugs that help one to cheat, and in campaign mode also has many bugs. This game is pure hype, the game sucks

Then after much success with MW2 They Relase MW3, and i have to say that online multiplayer sucks majorly, and i dont say this through personal skills and scores, Im not perticularly sure if this game is played on a server or on a host connection, but whatever it is, doesnt work, if you have a slightyly less effective connection than the host, then thats it, your buggared, expect a Low K/D difference. A MAJOR example of this falls on one weapon, the type 95 assult rifle, if you are host, its one hit kill, if you are on a good connection, its one burst kill, and for the rest of us, it takes two bursts IF your able to hit them. Another issue i feel with the maps are that they are majorly small, in comparison with MW2 which had a wide variety, MW3 seems to be all small maps, with the addition of stupid spawn placements due to lack off space, its like Wetwork of Cod4 but shapeshifted to differnt shapes and levels, and this doesnt work, and no doubt map packs are to be released at a stupid amount of MS points. and the hype surrounding this game definatly doesnt live up to the reputation, if anything its been let down from lazyness.

YES the setout for CoD works but NO we dont wanna pay £40 (or respected amounts in other currency) for something that could be relased as DLC with additional maps, guns, kill streaks, and attachments, because other than the Tweaks to the graphics, MW2 feels alot smoother gameplay wise. Recently ive seen people with hacked clan tags too, which shows how lazy they have been at *steeping up security* on the game, yes right now its only a clan tag, but it could easily turn out to have hacked servers, like that period on MW2 where you had automated unlimited noob tubes, i dont feel that the people behind the game take care of us gamers, and that other companies like EA and DICE do listen to the community. the only decent thing which is the only reason why it gets a mark is survival, which is a fun game mode for up to 2 players with much potential to either get better with DLC or broing if its just new maps. overall, if you want a more fruitful online experience, then Battlefield 3 is the way to go. And if you want a predictable end to the franchise then get MW3. #*SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!*# p.s everyone but Captain Price Die, which sucks.

I was expecting a lot of effort from Infinity Ward and Activision. The campaign was disappointing and was a horrible way to close off the story of Soap and Captain Price. It doesn't do anything other than make me want to finish the Campaign simply for the achievement. The Multiplayer does not flow at all. The maps are by far the worst to feature in any of the Call Of Duty games. The Killstreaks just do not feel rewarding enough. The only thing that makes this game bareable for me is Survival Mode. Infinity Ward's take on the Zombies mode featured in Treyarch games. It's actually pretty fun. Other than that, this game isn't worth buying new. Get this game pre-owned or just rent it. Call of Duty 2 = Fantastic. Call of Duty 3 = Alright. Call of Duty 4 = Revolutionary. Call of Duty WaW: Brilliant. Call of Duty: MW2: Pretty good. Call of Duty Black Ops = Ok. Call of Duty MW3 = Not very good. The Franchise as a whole has begun to start taking steps back. Why rely on the same old formula year after year? With this HUGE fan-base, it's time to start trying something new. If not, Gamers will eventually realise they are buying the same game every year, then the fan-base will deteriorate. Expand

After a disappointment in world at war I bought modern warfare 2 in high hopes that it would be a worthy sequel, which it kind of was...it added many features tightened the multiplayer and continued the story. I was willing to overlook the fact that it was ALMOST the same game, they were coming dangerously close to over saturating the series. Inevitably this happened a year later with black ops which was pretty much a clone of all that had been done before. After all this nonsense we hoped for a glimmer, modern warfare 3...a game which we all hoped would live up to the legacy. Unfortunately all modern warfare 3 really is is and exact replica of all that made up modern warfare 1 and 2. Nothing truly original was added to the experience. Activision has gotten all kinds of greedy. Forcing out games yearly at a full retail price knowing full well they are selling an unworthy product...not taking into account whether or not the consumer is getting what they paid for. The fact that the fans will buy it is apparently enough to justify tossing together some explosions and new maps and putting a new number on the end. All I ask is why? I am not a fan boy of one gaming device or the other, or one gaming series or another, just someone who doesn't understand why this is not only acceptable to you fans, but you will actually defend the games quality. Nothing is truly different about this game then the other major call of duty releases every year since 2007, nothing was stopping them from releasing small packages, more maps, more modes...nothing. Instead they put together not an inferior product, but a slap in the face. All of this has been done before. I've bought this before. You've bought this before. Before you think of buying this garbage and support these publishers who think it's ok to take advantage of loyal fans...think of what you could do to force them to make a modern warfare game that truly lives up to the standards of todays games. Was this much of a review? Not so much...not a rant either. I just want people to realize that the graphics are outdated, story still generic, game play rough, sound poor, and multiplayer virtually unchanged not because they can't but because they wont. Take a stand. Play your last call of duty if you have to a little longer until they see they can't treat people like dirt anymore. If you read this far I hope you see where I'm coming from and live up to my hopes that we will one day see a modern warfare 4 WORTH praising, not this thrown together mess, thank you. Expand

I have so many complaints but my biggest is that after purchasing my sons hardened edition and putting in his Elite code on xbox.com he gets an account not eligible to register message on his Xbox when trying to use the Elite app. If there was going to be an age restriction why not reject the code so that we could then sell it or something. I am so pissed. We were beta testers for Elite and I never seen anything that couldnt be viewed by him. He and I already have an account created online under our profiles and that works but he doesnt get any of the benefits in game or access to the app and as a parent I am not being allowed to grant that permission. They have wasted my 50$ and seem to have no intent on fixing this. My other complaints center around the service not working for me. The maps are not great and not even as good as BLOPS, or MW2. Unfortunately, Activision has turned this franchise into a yearly sports series. The gameplay is almost completely unchanged, the maps are dull and uncreative, the weapons, perks and killstreaks are almost all recycled from the previous games and the campaign is a 3 hour explosion.

For me personally I get my enjoyment( or lack there of since MW2) from the MP side. What I do not understand is how arrogant a company can be with the lack of releasing the most complete game they can. There has not been a public beta for COD since WaW. When you possess the most played game on xbox and you do not tap your customer base for early feedback and testing you are foolish. Even if some of the people dont report bugs/glitches you could bet your ass there would be tons of youtube videos with step by step guides as presently. So that brings us to what I view as MAJOR problems for the multiplayer side of the game :

    1) Lag --> Between the last 2 releases of the series as of right now a low gross estimate on $$$ is 1.5billion dollars....Instead of being proactive with this monster of a earner. Activision and their studios repeatedly spit in the faces of the consumers by not having dedicated servers. God forbid they divert at most 50million of their profits(a one time budget cost factoring in equipment, employees to upkeep for 10years ) to make the best experience for their customers. 2) Glitches --> Numerous upon numerous glitches, map exploits, kill streak exploits....It drives me insane that these were out within just 3 days of release. I have to ask who the **** was doing QA for IW/Sledgehammer? If you dont want to have a beta for your game fine, that is your prerogative. But don't you feed me **** about "How proud you are of your company's job well done on the game" aka Glen Schofield. Your people should be ashamed of the **** that made it out and we are only 13days in. If you don't have a beta you damn sure should have had these things patched up before the product shipped. 3) Team Killing in Hardcore modes --> I have no qualms at all about friendly fire when it happens, as a SnD players it makes it even more strategist in my opinion. However when you afford these idiots the ability to pull a rocket out and kill the entire team round after round with no repercussion, are you f@#@##@@### kidding me?!?!!??!?!?!?!? This was an issue in 4...Once again what the hell were YOUR employees doing Glen????; how is this not know pre launch or let alone resolved 13 days later. Activision, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and now Sledgehammer do their customers an enormous disservice year after year and I personally have had my fill of it.

The developers of mw2 had 2 years to develop a sequal, i expected improved graffix and improved all around gameplay, in my opinion they did not improve the game and these maps could be dlc for mw2. Every company that makes games and sequs is improving the games drastically but mw3 in my opinion did not deliver.

The campaign is forgettable, the tweener modes offer little, but the MP, which is where CoD should shine is truly awful. Not only has IW made the same mistakes as with MW2, they've compounded them. More game dominating killstreaks on even smaller, more cluttered maps. An FPS should be dominated by first person shooting, not an endless rain of remote control death from the sky.

There are all sorts of ways to play Black Ops: run and gun, corner camping and team camping, etc. I was a run and gunner while my signifcant other was a corner camper. We would literally cut off half of the map. My clan would rarely lose. We would have an idea of the area of where teams would spawn but wouldn't be able to cover the spawn by sitting two feet away from them. This brings me to MW3. I still run and gun which gives me little chance to be succesful. People literally spawn just feet from me and usually behind me. Earlier tonight I spawned in the middle of a building and had three people surrounding me. I was screwed. Another map my buddy was sitting on a wall shooting people who were spawning two feet below him. Aside from the spawning issue the guns are inconsistent. The power of weapons seems to flucuate greatly. I could go into more detail but puting this much time into reviewing this game after spending $120 for two copies is making me angry. I will be selling my copy to Gamestop tomorrow and play Black Ops until the next one comes out.

I gave this Game a 0 out of 10 for one major reason and that is that on some maps they copied and pasted entire buildings from previous modernwarfares (not even updated the textures or graphics on them) that makes parts of this game at least 5 years old. In my opinion directly copying material in such and obvious way makes this game little more than a cheat. and money spinner.

The reason that I am skipping it is simply because I am getting tired of paying $60 for essentially a map-pack and a weapons add-on. I was one of the people who was going to get this game until I saw the list of changes and it failed to impress me. I bought BF3 on the day that it came out and I got hooked. I didn't get hooked because it was a total departure from CoD but because it gave me an opportunity to experience a more immersive game-play style. I don't ever recall having to have to worry about my position within the map in terms of sun-light/shadow but it plays a huge part in BF3 and causes me to slow-down and think. I have also found out that just because I'm hiding behind a wall, it doesn't mean that this wall will forever keep me hidden. (Thanks to the ability of someone taking out that wall and me along with it!)

The evolution of video games has been a lot about player immersion, which is why the original COD and COD4 was so successful to begin with. They were both very innovative games and that is what has made them into the juggernaut that they are today. Based on all my research however; MW3 fails to move the series forward and instead is sticking to it's tried and true formula, which at this point is just disheartening. This year my money is with EA.

I am giving this game a 0 simply because it's what it's earned in my book and also because it's the amount of money that Activision will be getting from me this year.

    Thank you for reading.

I'm sorry but anyone who continually supports this company in producing glorified add-ons that get labeled as full releases is an absolute zombie. If we as consumers keep paying full price for games that do nothing to advance the medium or even simply the genre then what message does that send gaming developers? It's ok for you to just feed us the same crap over and over again? No need to be creative and try something new? Don't bother putting actual effort into new releases? How about all of the above

The CoD franchise has become an enigma, on the one hand it shows just how popular, and essential to entertainment gaming has become. On the other hand it also shows you everything that is wrong with the current state of the industry and their attitude towards consumers. An attitude that is born of our own fault of course. Anyone else who's looking for innovation or, at the very least having long existing issues addressed should look elsewhere. From the trend established by the past few releases in the series, Modern Warfare 3 is pretty much what I expected - and that's not a good thing.

The single player, briefly, is solid, but not spectacular. If you've played the previous Modern Warfare title's campaign's, you know what to expect - shoot infinite enemies emerging from invisible monster closets until you move to the right trigger point to make them come from another one. Eventually make it to large setpiece explosion/event and repeat. The multiplayer isn't even this good (if we can even use that word).

The multiplayer actually feels like a step backward. The menus are clunky and feel thrown together, but this is just the first hint of crappiness to come. The maps feel like thrown-together paintball arenas rather than locations that would exist in real life. The developers forced obstacles, alleyways and staircases where they don't make sense, just to create more chaos - and not the good kind. Maps feel maze-like, and combined with the random spawn system there is little room for any kind of cohesive, team-oriented strategy. The best case scenerio still ends up being some strange hybrid of free for all and team deathmatch. All too often you find yourself shot in the back by someone who just spawned behind you mere seconds ago, often from an area you though that you'd just cleared. But perhaps the most infuriating aspect of multiplayer is the over performance of the gameplay. In spite of the billions of dollars made on this franchise, Activision refuses to invest in dedicated servers on consoles. This leaves players at the mercy of whatever local host is chosen, and more often than not, it's not pleasant. Lag and shoddy hit detection are not only common, but present the vast majority of the time. There's always at least a few players (if not the entire opposing team) that can survive multiple headshots, 8-12 chest shots or sometimes even have the ability to allow bullets to pass right through them from 2 feet away. On the other hand, enemies kill you around corners, knife you even though the slashed it with their back to you and 3 feet away, or in spite of their near invincibility, you'll find yourself shooting first, hitting (multiple times) first, yet still end up dead via 2 shots to the leg (after yourself registering multiple shots to the body and/or head). The multiplayer is broken, and given that this is the primary reason for purchase for most players, I feel not only disappointed, but ripped off.

The graphics are more realistic than real life, and I feel like I'm really shooting terrorists in the face with every press of R1. The sound literally made my ears orgasm, which I didn't even know was possible. A quick check of Wikipedia reveals that it shouldn't be possible, but for the purpose of the review I will assume that Sledgehammer Games has hired a few wizards to add the final touches to the game. I was rock-hard the entire time I played through the intense, cinema-like single player, and the multi-player may just be the most fun thing ever created. Yes, even better than Slinkies. Literally the only bad parts about the game are the fact that Soap and Yuri die, and the game isn't Battlefield 3, so I'm docking a few points. I'mt I'm sure they will come back with something that actually is new and improved, but until then we have this to play, which isn't a bad thing, it just isn't anything special, new, or different then the previous versions... the core game is no different, which just doesn't cut it this year.

It's MW2 with worse graphics, smaller/crappier maps, and the speed turned up a few notches. For little kids hopped up on mountain dew to run around and die (with no respawn timer) while screaming profanities. It sucks.

Completely uninspired/unoriginal crap. Activision needs to stop this yearly release schedule and focus on making a good CoD game, not just a copy/paste of previous ones.

It's exactly like the previous games in the franchise, there is nothing new, dated graphics, short single player campaign and a lot of flaws. Don't buy it.

Bargain basement or rent. What's new? Absolutely nothing that is worth the horrendously high rip-off price. Will be trading this in (along with BF3) for something, hopefully, far better than this pile of dung! Avoid at all costs!!!

This game is more of the same. Like way more of the same, it has pasted buildings from Modern Warfare 1 and has exactly the same graphics engine at modern warfare 2, with very similar multiplayer maps and gameplay.

It brings nothing new to the series and honestly it just feels so cheaply done, it doesn't feel like a real Call of Duty game, just a hollowed out clone, it doesn't have that

Why would i pay 60$ for a game that came four years ago? Plus they managed to make an alternative nuke thay kills the enemy team, and gives DBL XP to the nuking team. Really IW? Oh, and the recycle buildings from CoD4! I never thought that CoD could sink this low. I am returning this DLC and will keep on playing CoD4.

Aside from being literally EXACTLY the same cookie-cutter, generic first person shooter that the product-sponge of society has come to love so dearly, Modern Warfare 3 is probably the letdown of the century. Having bought every Call of Duty game (which has become as much of an annual release as the sub-par sports games that mar the industry) since Call of Duty 4, I can honestly say nothing has been changed. MW3 could have easily been boxed up and sold as an expansion pack. Literally no improvements were made, and the graphics were actually DOWNGRADED to even muddier and more lackluster textures than Black Ops and MW2. The multiplayer consists of a few new maps and guns, but that is it. The HUD has had NO changes at all, which is disappointing considering the ease and thoughtlessness with which something original could have been implemented. Gun sounds and many models were dug out of older game files and stuck directly into MW3 with new skins. The singleplayer campaign mode is nothing new for CoD games--a linear hallway with meaninglessly controversial and "shocking" plot twists, the corpses of which have been beaten to death by CoD developers so much that the plot in its entirety was easily assumable based on prior knowledge of the excuse for a "plot" that older CoD games have. It even included a now-obligatory slow motion section after many illogically unsurvivable "intense" moments. The final moment of the game could possibly be meant to come across as "epic conclusion, look at what just happened," but passes off for little more than a juvenile attempt at being edgy and brutal. Many of its elements are torn directly out of other popular media such as other movies or games, and it saddens me that society will gluttonously devour this ruined ramshackle husk of what was once a series with some potential. TL;DR: Modern Warfare 3 contains literally zero new elements, no innovation, and is/was marketed solely on the underwhelming achievements of its past. It is a reskinned expansion pack to Modern Warfare 2, and its commercial success is sickening. As a whole, the game is totally abysmal. Expand

It is truely absurd that a first person shooter is being groomed to become an annual franchise or gathering for 10 year olds to 50 olds every year to spend 60$ or more and then buy the copy pasted carbon copy again 10 months later. With that said, MF3 suffers from the generic linear, yet sometimes appealing story mode. The spec ops is well ... Spec ops. I was never a fan of it as were my friends, and the multiplayer is as dumbed down as always. I remember the old days were AIM ASSIST was not an option nor a standard for online play; But with MF3 and all other COD's its a way of life. Well to conclude, if your a sheep follow the other sheep; But if you dare to be different look out side the box and dont go deeper in to your wallet and look around for something new and refreshing. ps: I highly recommend BF3 (Battlefield 3). So, Glen, score is "suspiciously low" to you? Well, I've been playing pretty much the same game 2 years ago... and 4 years ago, and looks like a lot of people agree/have the same point. But why worry - it's shattering all kinds of records on pre-orders/sales. Activi$ion did it again.

Try bringing something new in while milking this golden egg goose, don't just stick to a working formula

Unfortunately, Activision released exactly the same game for the third year in a row. Never saw that one coming.. As they have proven time after time since the merger, Activision is really only concerned with the bottom line. It's much easier to release the same game with an "upgraded" engine year after year than it is to actually create anything even close to resembling an innovative product.

As far as value goes, you are not getting your $60 worth for this game, you pay mostly for graphics when you buy a game and you clearly didn't pay for that in this one. Perfect example of quality vs. quantity, Activision just keeps pumping the games out like a mill and they keep degrading in quality as the years go by. It's nothing more than an expansion pack. That series is going no where. Same game engine, same animations and the same sounds.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
