This game is just a glorified expansion pack of mw2. Everything feels the same, all they did was change the guns and add some customization features that do not impact gameplay significantly. Even with support killstreaks, the game still promotes camping with the standard killstreaks which are more powerful. Haven't tried the new spec ops yet but this game is supposed to be about the MP.

If you hate your money, and would like to own a steaming pile of **** inside of a small DVD case, then this game is for you!

This is a horrible game designed for brainless kids. I guess that's awesome if your target audience will shell out $60 a year for the same game.

Activision once again throws innovation by the wayside in favor of its "winning" formula with MW3. This game brings nothing new to the table, (except for maybe some pretty explosions) and should be thusly treated.

Call of Duty failed this year, not because it is a bad game, but because it doesn't deliver any inovation. The Call of Duty series needs to follow the Battlefield example and stay out of the market for some years, and renovate the franchise... That said, I have no choice but to give a low "grade"... Call of Duty just failed the year.

Not only is this EXACTLY the same as the previous games but it has even less variety. Where just about every mission seems to be mowing down hordes of enemies. Even the Spec Ops is like this.

Yes it's polished but there is zero innovation here. Very stale.

MW2 was my first console FPS, and I fell in love with it. After a while though, the online play became more stressful than fun. Quickscoping, One-Man-Army and Marathon/Commando made it feel like I was being punished for wanting to enjoy myself. A year later Black Ops arrived...I was still playing it until the night I purchased MW3. My only issue with Black Ops was the gun imbalance (Famas/Aug/AK74u) and hit random detection, otherwise a fantastic multiplayer game. So here I am with MW3. Unlike BOPS, I'm already getting tired of it... for the wrong reasons. What everyone has said is true, it is MW2 with a couple new perks/weps/maps. ISSUE 1: The largest problem with the game, IMO is the spawn system in relation to the maps.
The maps are much smaller than MW2/BOPS, and there are multiple ways to travel to a location (great for anti-campers) but this to me is its largest downfall. All the maps have so many turns, routes and drops that when you spawn there is almost an enemy near you at all times. Going for that Assault killstreak? Too bad, someone from the other team just spawned 10 yards behind you, literally as your back is to them. ISSUE 2: The number of levels to progress through is way to high. Why do I need to level up 60-74 levels just to unlock my favorite gun? Oh, there is a Prestige shop for that! Once you prestige, you get a token to â

It feels like a map pack for MW2. The only differences are extremely basic changes which are to be expected with each new title. (Guns, perks, etc.) It sickens me that this is the most successful game on the market right now, and all IW had to do was slap a 3 on the cover. You are not missing out on anything if you choose not to buy this. "Most anticipated game in history" my ass.

This is the same game fourth time around. Next to nothing has changed since COD 4's release in 2007. MW3 is just not worth its 60$ price tag. If this game was an expansion pack to MW2, I would gladly purchase it. Even if they had just made it a 40$ game, It would be better.

Looks, sounds, and feels like MW2... didn't bother to re-record any of the sounds or re-design any of the interfaces. They swapped out a few weapons, included new maps, and tweaked killstreak mechanics slightly... but it's largely the same game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is not the same Call of Duty that I came know and love. Multiplayer maps are all about close quarters now which a real shame (remember overgrown?). Singleplayer is absolute trash. The game just feels too fast as well. I understand that the game is suppose to be all out war, but my god does every mission have to have explosions and over the top set pieces? It's stupid how Sledgehammer thought it would be moving to kill off every single character (except Price by the end). Whats sad is that i didn't feel sad or mad even though I've been playing Soap for the past two games. MW2's Ghost and Roach death scene was at least descent. I just felt no emotional attachment here. Because every level is all about racking up bigger explosions, there doesn't seem to be a single moment of quietness or intensity like "All Gillied up" or "Shock and Awe" Call of Duty died when Activision sucked the life out of Infinity Ward where most of its development team left. I was really looking forward to wrapping this up story up, but it left me cold and disappointed..... Cod 4 was like Black Hawk Down. MW3 is like a mindless Michael bay movie with no substance. Expand

Being a big fan of all FPS's I was really hoping for some really big changes, which may I add is the impression that myself and a lot of other people got. For me it is just MW2 re-named, I mean I will still play the game and it has its moments but the reason for the really bad score is just because there no real "creativity" which is a real let down.

However the problems with multiplayer are still there, yes it's still a fast paced shooter but that's mainly due to the close quarters maps which only require players to use smgs to dominate. I also found that the game can lean to much towards camping at times with too much focus on players getting kill streaks even with the new kill reward system. As for the campaign it continues from where it left off in MW2 in medias res, i feel that this is a little bit of a let down as new players unlike myself my not know the story. The AI system returns although against such titles as gears of war 3 and uncharted 3 it feels a little bit too cheap with the AI relying on using grenades to kill you and feels a bit robotic. As for the level designs they remind me a bit of gears of war 1 with many of the level involving moving down a street, stopping to kill some people in front moving to the next group with no real player ability needed to beat the game. Unless of the grenade spam difficulty (veteran). The new survival mode is good fun though much better in my opinion than the rather dated zombies, this mode can be a blast with a friend although hampered by the AI again. To conclude this game is feeling a bit dated and has less new content than Halo: ODST, think of it not a a new game but as an expansion pack like the change from fifa 11 to 12 or madden 11 to 12. Nothing new, but nothing truly broken from year to year. If you are going to buy this game then I suggest that you buy it second hand save your self some cash and wait for the patches to roll out. Maybe you thought its ok to charge gamers $50 for every thing that you come out with, but sorry to burst your bubble but you got competition with BF3. Which has better graphics, realism, physics, more vehicles, better sound, better strategy and best of all it all cost paying $50 once for the game and for elite service. Now that's what I call a great deal. I haven't been this disappointed in a very long time. It feels like nothing more then an overpriced DLC pack. While Spec Ops is very fun the multiplayer, where most players will spend the next year, seems to be rushed. It's grainy and glitchy. There are times where it feels like one bullet with kill you even when you aren't playing hardcore. Then when you watch the killcam you see that you were shot 5 times and it didn't register until that last bullet. The music is as douchey as the over-hyper developer that you could see the entire camera crew through his reflective sunglasses.( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtRa4z0dt8k ). The multiplayer experience just seems like it was ignored for other portions of the game due to the fact that they knew that players were going to play it no matter what it was like. Not a single MP map is unique in any way shape or form. The section of the CoD games that everyone loves is nothing more then a turd that wasn't even polished. yikes. thank god I didn't end up spending any money on this. It was immediately obvious when I started a match at a friends what a horrible remake of MW2 this was. BF3 was a great investment.

Hell of alot shorter 3 acts instead of usual 5. Much easier and no challenge even on Veteran. Maps aren't great on multi-player either. Not as much freedom as there was on earlier games. Buy Black Ops for yourself instead.

Second the quick scoping should be taken out you shouldn't be able to fire that rifle til you see the scope I know this won't defeat it the act entirely but it'll limit it some. Lastly an this has to be my least favorite thing the stealth bomber kill streak should be a Assault one or the very last support one (16 kills perhaps? 18?) it's rather annoying when you hear that roaring of one that right after another and another an another. All in all BF3 gets shooter of the year when its all said and done since its a fresh new product. Expand

I'm disappointed with "professional" reviews of Call of Duty, they all seem to praise it as though it it actually contained an original thought or idea in the entire game. I really think that critics have been too soft on this game just because it's polished. I can appreciate a game that is solid and reliable, but that doesn't make it good or fun. This game is uber trash. I'm glad critics gave this a 9.0 right off the bat and couldn't have hardly even played it. Critics want to knock other games for repeating the same recipe over and over, yet it's a unbelievably magnificent 10+ when CoD does it. I've lost hope in humanity.

My biggest gripe is the map layouts. Most maps are way too small to get any time of rhythm/momentum. It reminds me of playing Rust nonstop. It's a joke. I can't play this game because Activision have allowed a broken product to leave the developers studios. We are just three weeks post-release and already we have had 4 update patches - this means that the programming was not correct when it started to ship, i.e - an unfinished game, rushed to get it out in time for Christmas cash-in.

The problem is that you must play with people from your own country, but for smaller countries and States, nobody is online at all sometimes so you cannot play this game. I bought XBox Live to play people from around the world, not just my area code. There is no option to choose otherwise, so your chances on playing this game depends on whether or not someone else in your area code is online also which is a pain in the backside after 11pm to say the least as if it wasn't difficult already for smaller populated area's.
For example, Europe is divided into individual countries instead of the E.U - all this makes matchmaking a total frustration. It's just definitely unplayable. Then we have the lag - the bouncing and jumping all over the place, the hitmarkers, the bullets that can turn corners, pointstreaks are overpowered (once a chopper is called in, you can't hide from it and SAM turrets take an age to take it down). There are glitches everywhere and the maps are not as good as previous installments yet, the talk about bringing them back such as Terminal, Favela, Crash, Shipment into MW3 doesn't make much sense to me because we've been asked to pay $100 for a NEW GAME, why bring back all the OLDER MAPS? Is this an acceptance that MW3 is not good enough? Or is it simply laziness on the developers part not to be creating new maps? It doesn't make any sense....

However, even if all these bugs were fixed tomorrow by IW, Sledgehammer and Raven - the main problem with the Call of Duty franchise is the type of players it tends to attract. The community are not focused on winning the game as a team, and tend to ignore their bomb that has been detonated, their flag that has been captured or even to capture the dog tags in Kill Confirmed (which is the whole point of that gametype), it honestly bewilders the mind with a complete lack of any kind of recognition regarding the team mates and the objective. Ultimately, it is the mainstream light that COD has moved into during these past number of years that is ultimately killing the series altogether. The franchise has gone so mainstream now that the developers are no longer producing a game they aimed for back in 2007 with the release of MW1. I don't know who their target demographic are anymore, but it sure as hell is not the same people that purchased the original Call of Duty back in 2003. I gave this game a rating of 2 because i did enjoy the campaign, albeit a very short over-the-top cheesy and korny HollyWood style at times. If you have COD: MW2 - stick with that.

    I hope this helped.

As an avid player of Call of Duty titles for the past 6 or so years I have to say I'm quite disappointed with Modern Warfare 3. The single player Campaign is not why I bought Modern Warfare 3, but I did enjoy the plot for the modern warfare series (especially the first one), but I can't really say I feel the same about this game's campaign. The plot was weak at best, bouncing around from location to location fighting off Makarov's shinnanigans with different teams of undeveloped characters who for some reason all seem to know each other closely with very little explanation of how (particularly Sandman and Price).

Spec-ops is basically horde-mode from Gears of War, was fun for about 30-40 minutes and then I got bored, I'm sure there are people out there that will enjoy it, but it's not really my thing and I didn't feel that it had too much in the way of extended entertainment value.

Now to the real core of Call of Duty; the multiplayer. They essentially threw out the majority of the positive changes black ops had implemented, made a rehashed version of their player statistics into call of duty elite which you can't even check in game between matches. They brought back quick scoping (which is basically nothing more than abusing aim assist), location lock Javelin missiles which have more power than a predator missile and can reach more than half way across the map. The maps themselves are filled with tight corners and I swear the flanking routes to the flanking routes have flanking routes...combine that with what can be questionable spawning locations and claymores/bouncing bettys which only work maybe 30% of the time you can expect to be shot in the back a lot. New strike packages are pretty cool, Assault is pretty much the same as ever, I think Specialist is awesome, and then there's support which for reasons unknown holds the stealth bomber killstreak. Aside from maybe the sentry gun, which I can accept as more of a defensive oriented killstreak a strike package that doesn't reset on death should not have offensive based killstreaks like a stealth bomber which I usually see about 5 times a match if not more. Advanced UAV, Stealth Bomber and EMP were some of the most valuable killstreaks attainable in previous games, now they're tossed around like loose change, even if your actively seeking out and killing the players on the other team who are getting kills you can do nothing to deny them these streaks which can be relatively frustrating. My final gripe with this game isn't a balance issue but the matchmaking and hosting in general, the lag and poor connectivity in games is horrendous, 3/4 games will have lag issues, 1/4 will just die and send you back to the lobby, I've never had these issues playing any of the previous Call of Duty titles (should probably note I play on xbox360).

In summary I wouldn't write this game off completely, it has a lot of potential, and it still has the solid mechanics of any modern warfare game, but they've definitely taken a few steps backwards, and if you're a player used to a high K/D ratio be prepared to get really frustrated as maintaining much above a 2-1 k/d is a lot more difficult than previous games.

I would rather see the often offensive player cards of BlackOps than this. There seems to be several other ways of cheating which I have seen videos of (i.e. 10th prestige on the second day after release). I can sort of deal with this things because they don't appear to be in every game. What I can't deal with is the lag compensation that this game uses. To be hit by one bullet and die, only to see you were showered in bullets on the kill cam is silly. Being behind cover on your screen and getting killed, only to see you hadn't made it to cover yet is ridiculous. BlackOps had this in it as well, but it was not so invasive. It was a little frustrating. In MW3, it seems to be running at full blast making for an incredibly frustrating game. Hopefully the founders of IW that Activision screwed over can be a new and exciting and well developed franchise with Respawn Entertainment. We can only cross our fingers and see! Expand

There seems to be no real reason why what happens on my screen, and what I see in people's kill cams are so different. Many times, I will spot a soldier first, put over half of my clip into him, then he will turn around and kill me. Then, when I watch his kill cam, it shows him firing on my before I have even turned to aim at him.

That is horribly unacceptable in a game that's been using the same engine for awhile now. This game should be water tight, but it is not. It is frustrating and I'm enraged that I wasted 60 USD on this.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
