I will confess up front: I'm a COD fanboy. I've liked every iteration of the game up until now. Sure, none of the previous titles were perfect. Sure, none of the previous titles were perfect. But one could nevertheless have a great deal of fun, playing with a variety of gametypes and playstyles. MW3 is not like that AT ALL. It's made exclusively for run-n-gun gameplay. The maps are all tiny and maze-like and you find yourself constantly spawning behind the enemy or the enemy spawning behind you. This makes my favorite loadout, the sniper, completely useless. If you're not using an SMG or a shotgun and taking your chances at spawn/die/spawn/die suicide runs, then you're not going to get anywhere in this game. And who can play that way for more than 20 minutes without getting fatigued? Add in the poor framerate, poor support for dedicated servers, poor graphics, and so on, and this game fails mightily compared to the others. If you haven't purchased it yet, don't buy it. And if you do feel compelled to buy it, wait until it goes on sale. I hope single player is better because I feel like I wasted $60. Expand

This game is just the same thing it has been for 5 years its disgusting and I cant believe I bought it again I keep falling for it and wont fall for it again. The games story is 3 hours and graphics are subpar. Its a game thats only for people who are addicted to it. there is no innovation.

This game is not very good at all. I played Call of Duty: World at War, and it is basically the exact same gameplay as that with little to no innovation...why does Activision have to keep publishing these terrible games, take A FEW YEARS to develop something good? What I say here won't matter though, activision knows people will buy bad games if they release them

Truly appalling. MW1 did something different with the Perk system, back in 2008. Since then this franchise has got lazy. Every other big franchise is innovating and upgrading (Battlefield, Assassins Creed, ME, the list goes on) however COD seems to be too afraid to stray from the formula. Gladly only borrowed the game and didn't give my money to the Money grabbers at Activision. If youTruly appalling. MW1 did something different with the Perk system, back in 2008. After playing on multiplayer for a few minutes, I realised that it was a waste of money and a waste of queueing time, it shouldn't of been a full release, it should of been an expansion. Yes there are a few things that are different and interesting but a lot of it is just the same old stuff that is in previous versions. The only section that I slightly enjoy is the Spec Ops, the only downside on that though is you can only play with one other person. I'd like to be able to play with up to three other people.

I feel like activision is afraid of taking risks on making a good product so they just keep doing the same thing over and over again and that is the biggest risk of all. I would say save yourself the money, if you still own modern warfare 2 and weren't tired of playing it just pop that in and go to town.

It is a polished MW2. Not a new game worthy of a new title. Everything in the game is stale and unoriginal and a let down for an enthusiast of all the COD titles and FPS shooters. MW3 is a good game. But not the great game that the new Infinity Ward could have produced. Now for some nit-picking on my part- Multiplayer level design resembles Nuke Town on every single map. It concentrates the players in choke points with very few vantage points. There is no strategy except for killstreaks and perks which eliminates any objective for playing a game type. The wide fluctuation of connectivity between players is also dismal and favors frustration. Half the time I have a killer connection. Half the time there is a 2 sec delay. I have a consistent

Amazing how a franchise is able to make so much money by releasing such horrid games. There story is awful and doesn't give you any sense of realism or emotions, But COD is about their online, that's what makes their games good and unique right? Nope, this is a 60 dollar DLC a complete rip off if you own any other COD then you own this one.

Listen, We've all played CoD before. Be it, 4, MW2, Black Ops, what ever one, we've played them. If you have ever spent $60 on one of these games, you will understand a few things. The singleplayer, is a short, albeit well done, action thrillride on steroide while having a herpes flare up. Its angry, its mean, it's "America." Besides all of the Achievements/trophies, the game has little replay value. Survival, although it may be fun at first, is the same "Horde" game mode, we've been playing since Gears of War 2. I swear to God, every game has it. Gears of War 2, 3, Uncharted 2, 3, Halo Reach Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Onslaught DLC), Left 4 Dead, 2, Counter Strike (Mods),Call of Duty: 4 (PC), World at War, Black Ops, THE LIST GOES ON. So, "Survival" mode, not getting any points for Creativity or Originality. Now, the Multiplayer, OH the multiplayer. I myself have played more Call of Duty multiplayer that any one person would need to. I have experience in this game, and other FPS's and I can honestly say, that this game has the same terrible mechanics, spawns, weapons and problems as all other call of duty games. Lastly, CoD Elite is behind the times. Bungie.net, Battlelog.battlefield.com, and other stat tracking services do the same or better things as Elite, but for free. All in all, if you've never played a CoD before, you might want to consider it, because there is some fun to be had. Everyone else, you're a fool if you buy this. Expand

Would you justify to pay 60$ for a new patch instead of a new game? I rather not. Activision Devs did not make same effort compare to the Dice Devs. Dice created BF3 as a new game with brand new engine, everything is a refresh, so BF3 worth 60$ price tag, but not the MW3 which they had simply reskin the texture and rescript the single player. What i would have expected after all of the other games is improvement. What many get from this multiplayer are small unthoughtful maps, same grahpics as previous games, and a ball of frustration. Most of the maps are EXTREMELY small and after the first 3 or so minutes, people start spawning near each other and its all very confusing.. you kinda ask yourself , "wait, me and this guy cleared out this area, and then we both got taken out by some guy who just spawned in an area we cleared" This game is a major disappointment. I loved Black Ops and how you could create your own character in the manner you wanted. The purchase system rocked - as did the wager matches. The maps are too busy which makes it hard to pick up players. I hate the new system in non-hardcore that doesn't let you see what team someone is on unless they are close. That's what hardcore is for. They are allowing knifing across the room again. and finally, the environment isn't destructible. after playing BF3, that is one of the things I loved. it keeps the game changing and never stagnant. it also helps keep campers from staying in the same spot since you can blow the hell out of it.

overall, MW3 was a big disappointment. I usually LOVE call of duty games but this felt like nothing more than a map pack with a step backwards from Black Ops because of the confusing menus, undoing the purchasing system, lack of combat training to get to know the maps, and overall feel of the game.

after this, I'm moving to battlefield 3. it's a far superior game. Call of duty, you suck now. You could have come out with an amazing product and built on the success of black ops. but you struck out.

Not what I was looking for. I found this to be the most dumbed down COD experience yet. The changes made to the perk and killstreak systems are cool at first but after the paint wears off, you realize it's the same old car underneath. Multiplayer just doesn't feel right and doesn't run as smooth at MW2.

I guess what can you expect with the core staff of IW leaving. They played it too

This release would have been better served as DLC content. The IW/Treyarch engine is getting fairly long in the tooth. The series, like several others, should take a year off once in a while and not feel obligated to release a rehash just for the purpose of cashing in.

Is that enough? I don't think so, year after year we hear about how the call of duty series obliterates record after record in sales. This game in one week has profited more than 700 milion dollars, with that much of a profit I think Activision could invest a little more in innovation, making better graphics, bigger maps, adding new variables like ambient distruction or just putting out servers so that we don't lag anymore!
Another trend that started lately is the lack of free space in a map, why put sniper rifles when there isn't a map built for it, I like snipers, if they're good they help a lot and if they're bad are fun to kill, but bit by bit maps are getting smaller and more crowded every year, with fewer lines of fire, making playing as a sniper impossible.

BLOPS was a lot like police academy 4 - the start of on the fence, derivative, 'lets do this for the money' kind of stuff. Even if the COD series hadn't been to vietnam before, others had (many years before) and they'd done it better. And now we have MW3. Which, is entertaining for sure. A solid COD game. And its always nice to get new maps for multipalyer. And if MW3 had only been the 5th game in the series and the year had been 2009, then I'm sure it would have been considered one of the greatest FPS's of all time. But its not. Its been 2 years since MW2 and we the same thing with slightly different environments and new singleplayer. Imagine if Apple re-released the i-phone 3 in 2011 with 2 new case colours...

I've got enough COD games in my closet andd on't get me wrong, I love dusting them off occasionally, but this game is the 7th in the series and it brings nothing. In my opinion, its time for the series to die.

Just Like the annually released sports games, this is nothing new. Game has been the same for the past 5 years. The Single player was decent but too easy on Veteran. MW1 and COD2 were way tougher. Multiplayer was okay, way to fast paced. Slow it down Activision! Halo isnt even this bad. Frame rate was good. Sorry But going to social network sites to ask fanboys to help out your rating onJust Like the annually released sports games, this is nothing new. Game has been the same for the past 5 years. Not anything new really. They have just taken somethings form other CoD and bunched them together. Somesay that there are new thing but if you think about the developers have taken it from other games. A new engine and dedicated servers would make the game better and they should try to make it less "arcade-ish". Don't enjoy the maps at all and Survival mode is so blend. There was a time when games were praised for their originality and innovation. Call of Duty has lowered the bar. The storyline sucks as does the gameplay.

Save yourself some money and get modern warfare 2, or better yet purchase battlefield 3. This game only feels different to modern warfare 2 not better, same game just somewhere else. To be honest it feels like a retaliation release to battlefield, something that was rushed and wasn't particularly well thought through.

Like has been said many times before, a 60$ map pack. I suppose it was only inevitable that this game would disappoint. It was never going to live up to the hype, without bringing something new and innovative. Sadly, it does neither. Couldn't afford both BF3 and MW3, looks like I made the wrong decision. Going to go trade this thing in and see if I can get a good deal on BF3.

I just changed my review text (not the score) to reflect that the producers of this game have posted an article pleeding people to give it a 10 on metacritic to raise its score. that is bs.

The game isnt completely bad i think the graphic's took a step back and the maps are not amazing but the game overall is still pretty decent. Its probably gonna take a few weeks for them to work out all the kinks in there servers but its still a good game.

It's a decent game, I don't see why people hate it. Sure it's the same every year but so is virtually every sports game out there if they can create an annual game that everyone loves why can't Call of Duty? Overall I enjoyed this game although not as much as previous COD's. The graphics are decent if seeming more and more dated each year. Audio is competent if not amazing. The gameplay is as great as it has always been with a fast and frenzied play style. The single player is enjoyable if like other COD's even though you'll probably forget about it not long after you've played. The Multiplayer like always is where it's at and like other Call of Duty's it's a blast. My only real complaint is that not enough is new in this installment and almost not deserving of the 3 as this feels like an expansion rather then a new game. If you love COD buy this if not, go troll some other game that you obviously spent no real time on and went in with a complete bias against it. Expand

I picked this up for a midnight release. Truthfully I wasn't expecting anything greatly knew, but man did they just copy and paste this one. I am terribly disappointed in IW and Sledgehammer for this. This is exactly Modern Warfare 1, just a different title. Terrible buy on my part, don't buy this game.

This feels like a rehash of a game that has been sold under different names, over and over again. A 5 hour campaign, different maps, slightly different guns and perks sounds like DLC to me - however being sold at the full retail value of a new game. No thanks.

Modern Warfare 3? Really this should be called Modern Warfare DLC for MW2 because I don't see that many changes at all the only new thing I see here are the new perks and just some new guns thats all.
Map of call of duty 4
Just the same game with other map ...

Terrible game, I feel ripped off. Might as well just call it modern warfare 2 with new, cagey maps. Completely lacks any strategic emphasis. Its a reflex race. Im going back to BF3

Modern Warfare 3 is pretty much the same game as MW2, and quite similar to MW1. The graphics are similar to MW2, the gameplay is essentially unchanged, and there's nothing else to speak of that is different. That doesn't mean the game is unplayable. To the contrary, its a smooth FPS, but entirely mechanistic: you might as well be shooting pop-up targets in between cutscenes. I don't know why its so hard to simply produce high quality textures and graphic components and then downscale for the obsolete consoles, but it seems that this game takes the opposite approach: which is why a graphics card that you could buy for $50 four years ago (the Nvidia 8600) is still the required card. Despite what the "recommended" stats might suggest, there's no more eye candy for those with a better system- just higher framerates for those who see 60 frames per second and up. This wouldn't be such an issue if the gameplay or story was involving, but its not. Overall, a mediocre if competent clone.â Expand

same as my pc review and now they are asking fans to make their score higher so that makes me mark my score even lower becasue of that. I think it's crap that they keep making the same game over and over just like starwars.

What should have been a DLC campaign, and DLC maps has instead been released as a full fledged game for $60. If you had played the previous titles expect no different, LITERALLY. The same enviroments have been reused and the same textures and scenarios have been reused as well, and the game's engine hasn't changed since WW Nam. It is LITERALLY the same game. Feels like CoD 4 and MW2 hashed into one game. That being said, if you don't mind spending $60 for another Call of Duty game, go ahead and buy it. Also, do NOT buy Elite, it is a waste of money, as well as the new "maps" which will most likely be re-releases of previous maps. Expand

Call of duty is a huge game millions upon millions of purchases. But this games best aspect is its infamous title. Cheap thrills on an old engine with the same child infested multiplayer of cod modern warfare 1&2 and black ops. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
