This FPS has just released? In 2011? Let me laugh !! There is no evolution since CoDMW... Just a new campaign, heavier textures and new weapons, not a new game. More than $15 for this, it's just a joke ! There is no game development and no expensive work to release this game.

After 600 hours on mw2 i can say this is very similar but slightly better. New modes new weapons. The graphic at 60fps for this generation of conosle is this , they can't do magic. After the disappointment for black ops i think this is a good return of a classic fps.

Call of Duty is a prime example of one of the franchises that rely on its previous titles for sales. With the most recent release of Modern Warfare 3 being a title that is equivalent to a large DLC package. To add on to this, Activision has already announced a new Call of Duty title release for 2012, in which I will be very surprised to see any type of innovation included. Call of Duty made its major break into the gaming world with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This is the first time the franchise underwent major changes, which in turn brought major changes into many shooters that are seen today. Now it seems that each consecutive Call of Duty title is simply giving us rehashed content, with the exception of Modern Warfare 2, which should be considered a legitimate sequel.

After this franchise went mainstream and captured a large fan base it decided to simply feed repetitively off of these fans. If you were to put up a screenshot of Modern Warfare 3 beside one of Modern Warfare 2, most people could not tell the difference. The developers of this game even decided to directly import a building from Call of Duty 4 into Modern Warfare 3, you can take a look at the video in the section to the left. This game simply added a few new weapon attachments, some new maps, changed the game modes a little, and slapped a new title over the front of the case. This is the perfect example of how certain game franchises are ruining innovation in the industry. The only thing that the Call of Duty franchise has changed since the release of Modern Warfare 2 is its marketing campaign, which is the real reason the title is still so popular.

Bottom line is, if you like Call of Duty, if you aren't tired of the formula, you will love this game. Simple as that.

Looks like a lot of fan boi's loving to QQ this game because they think that every version will be a complete revamp. Just an FYI, being able to balance MW3's multiplayer in such a great way is worth a 10 in it of itself. Unfortunately, if you are going to want to play a military FPS on a console, COD still rules the show.

Here's the real deal, if you've played call of Duty MW2, you've pretty much played MW3. That being said, that's not a bad thing. It restores a lot of the tried and true you may have felt was missing from Black Ops (I did not enjoy Black Ops), and ramps up on a lot of interesting small innovative changes. Strike Packages were a brilliant split, being able to assign specific killstreaks for specific builds is everything I ever wanted, and the expansion of weapons, equipment and the like is fantastic. The only thing I'm dissapointed by is the continuation of Extreme Conditioning over Marathon, but I digress.

It may not change the FPS genre or be a game changer, but it builds on what already works and is satisfying to a great degree.

Tell me Infinity Ward, when is it value for money for a campaign in a game to last less than 5 hours for the average player, since when do games have a final "boss" which consists of QTE only, since when do games care not for gameplay, and lead you through a script like a movie, care not for story and put you through the most generic terrorist attack story 3 times over, since when do the composers put barely any effort into their compositions... and the game I'm describing still sells 3.6 million sales in one day. Call of Duty now, to me is not a game, it is a piece of media that pushes the War Agenda for the country of America, it is the epitome of buying a brand, or a name and not a product, (i.e. Apple,) it is the perfect way to desensitize our kids, and make them believe that war is the norm, and that a hero is a man who kills another man in the name of patriotism. This game ensures that we put our future, and by that I mean our children, one step further away from our dreams of the likes of World Peace, or a unified world, because this game, and yes, many others like it have prepared them so, and put them in the state of mind that this is the right thing to do. I remember when a game was about traveling through an unknown world, meeting new characters along the way, battling inhumane beasts and aliens along the way, choosing how to change the world for the better along the way, all whilst being asked philosophical and psychological questions along the way, and making me a better person along the way. I don't know what to say in closing but I will say this, CoD is not a video game. Expand

Not just a step back from Black Ops, but a step back from Modern Warfare 2. Every facet of the game is recycled, save for one or two new game modes, which are just slight variations of other game types that add nothing to the experience. The few new perks only enhance the lazy, fearful method of camping in the multiplayer, making it all the more easy for campers (read as 99% of the community) to play the game their way, creating an unfair playing ground for people who want to actually play. Adding even more crap to the steaming dumpster pile this game is is the fact that almost all of the maps feature cluttered messes littering the world, making it impossile to get around with any sort of sense. I guess learning where all the little pieces of junk you can trip on can help, but doing so would not be easy or fun. The game itself is not unplayable from a coding point of view, but the way people play do.

Not totally the developer's fault, Modern Warfare 3 leaves a lot to be desired. The game feels like a precursor to the original in terms of playability, and adds only features that grant cheap players the ability to play even more cheaply. Overall score: 2 out of 10

It's getting a bad rep for the wrong reasons.

Yes the spawning is less than optimal, yes the maps kinda suck, and yes "tubes" are back in (which I never saw why people were pissed about that in the first place; if you don't like it, don't play), but you're not going to find tighter controls, better fast-paced gameplay, or better weapon customization anywhere else. Best in the series?

But hey, I can live with that. If you're here to give it a bad score because someone used a grenade launcher on you or they knifed you from behind or if you just plain suck, then you have no real perspective on the game. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Again, have some perspective.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 was one of the most anticipated titles in years. I didn't get my copy until about 11:00 AM on November 8th, and the was STILL quite a long line at my local Gamestop. Well, after getting home and popping in my copy of MW3, can't tell you how disappointed I was. I can truly say this was the worst effort put in by a game developer for a game with this magnitude. This game is simply the same graphics as MW2, extremely weak story line, and basically nothing has changed on the multiplayer. It amazes me that all the major review agencies, i.e. IGN, Game Informer etc didnt have the grapefruits to give it an accurate review, but I guess at the end of the day its all about $$$$$. And now MW3 game developer Glen Schofield is asking people to go on this site and give it better reviews? Hey moron, how about you make a better game. I hope you will all join me as I go to Gamestop and trade in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Expand

The multiplayer in this game feels way more balanced. Camping is hardly an option because there are usually two or three ways to access an area and noob tubes are less powerful. The only thing negative I will say is that this definitely is not a significant leap from mw2 or black ops. 2 years of development on the game and it feels like a 1 year patch. That said, it's still a great game.

The game, yes has the same engine, graphics are only a slight improvement. But the replay ability is excellent. The have taken the best from the previous titles, and enhanced those features. The worst, they have tossed out. The campaign is no shorter than the BF3 campaign. and i found it more difficult. I sold BF3 the day after getting MW3. It is fun (bf3) and has great graphics, and very realistic. But the realism downplays the replay ability. It gets boring. CoD MW3 is and improvement. And it was two years ago when IW and Activision released a CoD title. Black Ops had NOTHING to do with these two development teams. I give it a nine, because i have not experienced the "noob tube" effect. The gun SOUND more realistic (especially the sniper rifles) and the power decrease of the Noob-TUBE really decreases the frustration level. The game is probably an 8.5, since the multi-player maps really kind of suck, but the addition of some good spec ops missions and survival mode really make this game massive, aside from the fairly short campaign mode. Infinity ward/Sledgehammer did a good job improving on MW2 under the circumstances of their company basically disbanding. What you get is MW2 with improved features, all the great features of Black-ops, and optimized modes for hours upon hours of gameplay. Compare to game like Uncharted 2 & 3. Uncharted 2 was a GREAT game. So was Uncharted 3. They use the same mechanics, graphics engine and really offer nothing new in gameplay, just a new updated experience. The same broken Multiplayer, the same try-hard 4 hour long story, and soon the same overpriced map packs. It is truly a disgrace, the way Activision keeps confirming their greediness, and lack of interest for their customers. This hasn`t bitten them yet, seeing as a lot of COD-players are very, very young. Too young to stand up and say "I will no longer let myself be milked dry like a cow. I will no longer let this company ruin gaming by repackaging the same game over and over again, therefore being a bad example for the rest". And even when the fans are a bit older, they still have ridiculously low standards, considering they like replaying the same broken game, over and over, paying 60 Dollars every year.

However, I did not buy this game. I bought battlefield 3, and I borrowed this from a friend. The first thing I did was play the campaign, as I always do. Being a veteran of past call of dutys, I fell right into it and had a great time, the graphics haven't changed much in terms of cell shading and textures, but there is much more scale and the amount of onscreen action almost rivaled killzone 3, and it runs at a nice framerate like all cods and the gunplay is still good. The campaign is simply non-stop adrenaline, and the devs did a nice job of finishing the story. The spec ops missions are a blast. Play them with a friend is the best way to go and the survival mode is simply brilliant. Giving money to your alley, calling in AI allies, and dropping airstrikes, was, in my opinion, a better experience than nazi zombies. In all, it doesn't make that many advances for the genre, but I believe that it is a worthy sequel and that infinity ward and sledgehammer games have a bright future ahead of them. If they had changed things about the game, you would just get people raging about how it has changed too much! They kept the game similar because the older games WORKED. They had a huge fanbase and the multiplayer was good because there were always plenty of players to play games with. Sure, Activision are basically a bunch of money grabbing ****** who just want games pumped out as fast as possible but that doesn't necessarily mean that the game is bad. I found the game to have very fun multiplayer that seemed to be a touched up version of MW1/MW2. Another view that people should be taking on this is that there are many people who don't own MW2 or MW1. These people may want to purchase this game and your negative "It's no different" attitude is putting these people off purchasing it, all because you are under the impression that a game that is very well done must be completely changed just because it is a new title. Look at Halo for example. Halo 3 was a huge success with a large fanbase. With the release of Halo Reach, many people disliked it due to it's huge changes in gameplay. This could have easily happened to Modern Warfare and i can see why they kept it similar. Also, there were many people complaining that the campaign was too short or not good enough. I found it hard to believe that there were people who seemed to buy a Call of Duty game for the campaign. Military FPS campaigns tend to always be well below average in my opinion and if you want a FPS singleplayer game i would recomend playing something like Bioshock and to stop ripping on a game that is almost entirely focused on multiplayer for its campaign.

Ive shot people resulting in MULTIPLE hit markers only for them to drop me in one or two shots...then having the kill cam show me not even hitting them. That is frustrating. But its hit and miss. Overall, ignore the fanboys who get hard ons bashing a game...then boosting battlefield. I honest to god have both games...pre ordered both...battlefield let me down. Unfortunately, though, this game is kind of like climbing the same summit with a helicopter. The developers did not challenge themselves. Innovation is what attracted everyone to call of duty only a few years ago. Activision is fortunate to have such a massive, casual fanbase that will buy their games no matter the quality of the product. They need to use this to their advantage! Take some risks! The people that blindly buy a company's every installment aren't the people writing lackluster reviews for the product. The developers need to realize that it is okay to take a year off to recalculate and mess around with the unknown once again. Call of Duty does not need to continue as the Madden of shooter games. I have trouble reviewing the game on a strictly standalone basis because of the painful familiarity. The positive aspects of the game were emphasized in my glorifying review of MW2. This time around I just have more complaints. 6/10 Expand

MW3 might not be a complete overhaul or innovation, but Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have tweaked and nigh-on perfected the genre for the conclusion of their epic Modern Warfare story arc.

The level of detail and draw distance that the engine is now capable of is a great accomplishment of the development team, squeezing everything they can out of the current engine whilst still ensuring the game runs along at 60fps - a rare achievement of late with publishers and developers trading performance for graphical nirvana. The second campaign mission alone is a perfect example of the scope now available.

The story, whilst not original, still contains the trademark COD set pieces and action sequences, and bombs along at a consistent rate of knots.

The MP aspect has seen a few enhancements, with the perks and scoring systems tweaked to offer newcomers and lesser players an opportunity to shine, whilst still rewarding the hardcore elite for their accomplishments. Again this is not a radical overhaul but a pure refinement and the MW3 MP now feels extremely polished the culmination of the games' imprint on online FPS gaming over the last decade.

To summarise, it's maybe not as original as its prequels or as flamboyant as its competitors but MW3 is a well crafted, fast paced and well put together adrenaline ride that does exactly what you expect it to do well. The MP is refined and, while not massively different to previous versions, takes the greatest online FPS MP experience and makes it better. Great for old and new comers alike, try it - you just might like it.

Single player is very short (beat it in 5 hours 40mins on hardened) and totally throw away. There are too many turret/on-rails sequences and the stealth sections allow for very little improvisation. However no other game can rival its coop and multiplayer modes.

The multiplayer returns mostly identical to previous games, although the gunplay is tighter and the weapons/perks have been further tweaked from BlOps to create a more balanced experience than MW2 without sacrificing the fun of using ridiculous toys. The actual multiplayer engine has been obviously upgraded and tweaked from previous games, creating and overall prettier game. Infinity Ward's terrible netcode does make a return from MW2, but it has been patched a few times so far and gets better each time. If you're a fan of faster paced multiplayer shooters, you should absolutely pick this up. If you want to play a game that's slower paced and has been optimized for the PC at the expense of the console versions, by all means play Battlefield 3. And if you're some sort of weirdo who has nothing better to do with your time than write negative reviews for a game you have admittedly not played, find a new hobby. Expand

The first 4 hours of play I just didn't feel the excitement I usually get when I start a new cod game.
The graphics are pleasing to look at but you can tell we are now reaching the limits of the current consoles capabilities.there are a lot of blocky textures and most Walls for example look very plain and not unweathered.Close ups of vehicles reveal things like door lines looking like they were drawn by hand with a felt tip pen and no ruler.
The disappointing part for me was checking out all the maps.On the plus side we have sixteen of them which is quite generous, but I found it hard to remember them by name as most of them look very similar to each other.
The only map that stood out for me is village. It is a medium size map that looks vibrant and is laid out in a way that would keep most types of class happy. The rest however are small and with nothing but lots of close quarters combat. This suits my style of play but the days of kicking back for a relaxing sniper session are gone.
A nice small addition is the prestige shop.if you prestiged in other cod's you receive a token for each game.there are some genuinely useful things here like receiving double xp for 2 hours, buy an extra class and even a total stat reset.
Connection wise it's business as usual, with a lot of laggy lobbies. You will often fire at someone only for them to kill you, then on their screen you won't have fired a single shot. But when in a good lobby it flows well. You shouldn't however expect the lag to improve as time goes by as it is what it is,and if we were going to get a lag free cod it would have happened by now. It's not worse than the last 2 games though. In my opinion world at war worked the best for me as I found keeping the search set to local gave me a good connection most of the time.
I can't comment on the single player as I haven't played through it yet but going on what most people have said it looks pretty good and I look forward to playing it.
I honestly think most of us,me included have been expecting to much to come from mw3 and therefore feel disappointed, and in some ways rightly so.I also understand why the reviews were held back until launch day.
Another thing worth thinking about is had they changed the game dramatically to try and make the game different they could have ruined it and it's probably too much of a risk.
What we have here then is just another shooter and they have just played it safe.Die hard fans like me with still hammer the game through multiplayer but it's no secret that most are a bit disappointed with it.

I decided to write this review because one of the developers have asked us,the public on ign to come on here as they feel the overall user score is very low and they want people to be honest. So here it is,my personal opinion,a 7 out of 10.

There are numerous additions and subtle changes to the game from Black Ops and MW2, many of which are excellent. For example the new weapon sway on many guns such as ARs and SMGs when aiming down the sights make engaging at long range more skillful. The guns kill quicker than on Black Ops and the maps are smaller and more 'crafted' for intense short firefights. The Killstreaks are slightly more complex but less powerful and in objective modes, going for the objective counts to your killstreak.

The campaign is disappointigly short, much like CoD 4, WaW MW2 and Black Ops campaigns. However this is primarily a multiplayer game and that is where MW3 is strongest. Overall I give it 9/10. It is the game MW2 should have been.

Overall MW3 is a superb addition to the series

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
