Much better than I expected. The Multi-Player is top-notch and so is the new Survival Mode. Spec. Ops is back with a lot of improvements, haven't played enough of it to know what they are though. Sadly, I completed the Single-Player Campaign in 4 hours (on Recruit. Sad, I know.... XD). Even in MW2 the Single-Player Campaign was 8-12 hours on Recruit!!!! That's a big disappointment!

This is what I expected it to be. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with some much needed tweeks. This is a very solid game. After all, why change the things that weren't broken in the first place. However, it is probably not worth getting at the full retail price. Buy it on sale and it will be money well spent.

Why are people getting so fussed up about this game? I mean seriously, everybody has to hate. 97 percent of the people giving negative reviews are just complaining about the graphics. Just because Battlefield got a graphic update does not mean that every other videogame in the world must do so too.

EXACTLY the game I thought it would be. Story's fun for a day, but the Spec Ops and Multiplayer modes are what it's all about. Personally, I skipped MW2 because I was tired of realistic FPS's. Maybe it's because I skipped MW2 that I don't mind MW3 being seemingly the same game. But when it comes down to it, I enjoy my time spent with MW3.

Modern Warfare 3 is a great game that has some new things to offer that will keep you entertained for more time. The graphics are good, they may be no where near as good as Uncharted 3's or Arkham City's but still nice. The voicework and explosions are great as always and the playability has always been great. The plot for the campaign is not that great this time around as it has always been so I was dissapointed in the plot but the multiplayer is as fun as always and Spec Ops is even better with Survival mode so the whole thing is still fun to play. The flaws are that there is not much that makes MW3 different frm MW2 other than the campaign and Spec Ops and multiplayer additions and the campaign has some wears and tears that does not make it as interesting or as enjoyable as the plots of the other two games but this is minor compared to the rest of the package. Overall, Modern Warfare 3 is a great game that is worth playing, if you are new to the series you will love it but is you've played the other games you will be somewhat dissapointed at the lack of new content but you should still play the game though. MW3 is one of the great games in 2011 that should not be missed. Yes it is a lot like MW2, but that's kind of the point of a series right? Not sure what people are looking for in this game. I was looking for everything I liked about MW2 but with more content - which I think was aptly delivered. The perks are well balanced, a solid selection of weapons, corrected weapon ranges (no more Uzi kills from across the map), much improved killstreak system, addition of weapon proficiencies, and better selection of equipment. The only negatives I have found are that since 3 of the assault rifles are built off the same platform, many of the weapons look the same (though they perform much differently). Also compared to MW2 many of the maps of MW3 are very cluttered which isn't necessarily a bad thing but will effect your overall style of play. Bottom line: If you like MW2, you will like this game. Anyone who says differently is selling something. Expand

The single player and the special ops add depth and value to the overall package. The multi-player experience is where this package stands out, it will leave you addicted for months especially with call of duty elite and the vast amount of information it offers. The new modes also make it a worthwhile game.

Modern Warfare 3 is an excellent game and one of the most enjoyable FPS games I have played, especially online. I wanted to start off with the verdict on this game as there seems to be a lot of negative feeling towards it, a lot of which appear to have no substance. I wanted to start off with the verdict on this game as there seems to be a lot of negative feeling towards it, a lot of which appear to have no substance. Is MW3 similar to previous Call of Duty (CoD) games? Yes. Is this a bad thing? No. Once again the single player experience is decidedly short, probably no more than six hours, and delivers the usual array of intense gun battles and jaw dropping set-pieces that have become the norm for the CoD series. The visuals have been polished from previous entries in the series, although these aren't groundbreaking improvements, and there are also significant improvements in the sound department also. The real reason why anyone forks out their cash for a FPS, be it Battlefield or CoD, is for the multiplayer experience and once again CoD delivers in a big way. The variety of maps available is very good and the new focus of finding a preferred gun and developing it is an interesting new feature that allows the player t refine their online style. The new pointstreak system is also an excellent system and is much more welcoming for newer player to the series. When I first got into the online gaming experience with MW2 it took me quite a while to build up the skill to be able to effectively use killstreaks and I would've welcomed this feature when I was first starting out! My favourite new addition to the multiplayer experience this year has to be the Kill Confirmed game mode. The added pressure of having to round up dog tags following your kill makes for a frantic experience, and popping a grenade into a room full of camping enemies and collecting all those tags for yourself is a very satisfying experience! It's important to note that the frenetic online multiplayer experience has always been the charm of CoD for many people, including myself, and people need to realise it is perfectly acceptable for BF3 and MW3 to be very different and both excellent at the same time. I personally don't find the large maps and style of online play in Battlefield as exhilarating as the quick CQC in CoD, but nonetheless it is an excellent online experience. But if fast paced, adrenaline pumping online play is your thing MW3 is a must have game and will certainly keep you entertained for many months to come! Expand

Granted the story line could be better, but it is a great way to carry on from the MW2 end, and (IMO) actually fun. That's what I love in a game, its not how technically amazing it is, or the realism of the storyline (seeming as this is not set now it is still realistic), it is just the pure fun of playing it. I love playing through the story because it just is fun to see what happens next, and the fact that this is possible to happen (though more dulled down) also (for me) is good. I also love the fun of playing multiplayer either competitively, or just messing around with my friends. Fun is what I look for, seems you guys just want to play a game, decide you hate it, tell other people not buy it and enforce your opinion, then play it some more so you can become top of your friends. If you want some fun and a pretty good storyline, this game is great. Though I would buy it at a cheaper price, I got this with 25% off. Besides I disagree with hype around games that are expensive, just buy them after a couple of months or so and they wil become cheaper.

Modern Warfare 3 is an upgrade to the previous versions, yes it plays the same with the same style of play, but so does the Battlefield series. People are so ignorant that they bash a game and then become oblivious to the game they follow that does the exact same things. It's people like this that give gamers a bad reputation on the eyes of others. The campaign is great and although it repeats similar scenes as seen in the previous games, it is still great to play through it. The visuals have been upgraded slightly from the previous generations and everything looks great. The sound effects have not received a similar upgrade and the it doesn't sound as great when compared to sound effects of other games, but it's no big deal. Although most people buy the game for the multiplayer, no oone can skip out on this. It's a great campaign that continues the story line that was established by its two previous predecessors. The trolling of the user reviews for this game really disappoints me. There is no way, no way in hell, this game deserves anything less than a 7.5 from even the most jaded of gamers. When I read the early user reviews it was obvious the BF3 trolls were out in force. But the extent to which they have overwhelmed it made me wonder if perhaps Metacritic might try to filter the fanboys and retain some shadow of dignity. The professional reviewers inflate ratings, and no one questions this. When your livelihood depends on ad revenue and freebies from the ever-shrinking number of studios, who could really criticize them? That having been said, Metacritic has had the honorable position of hedging the professional reviewers with user reviews, and it made for the best (though certainly imperfect) way to judge a game one was unfamiliar with. Of course, MW is the biggest game franchise in history, so no one is really unfamiliar with it. Nonetheless, I wondered if Metacritic might take action to retain some semblance of objectivity. Then I realized Metacritic was owned by News Corp, which has a 5% stake in EA.com. Oh well. Something will come along to replace it i guess. BTW, I love BF3, glitches and all.

previous Call of Duty games for being poor. So, as a first timer to the series, I picked up
my pre-ordered copy. To me the graphics look great! They don't look dated. And the gameplay is super fun.
Played multiplayer and spec-ops survival with roommate for hours. I can confidently recommend the game to new comers to the series, specially those who love the fast gameplay of Halo but
want more depth to their guns and gameplay strategies. The game really does not deserve a 2.5 user score. It deserves a 9 in my opinion. One less than 10 because there's always room for improvement.

I hope the next Call of Duty game is significantly different from this one otherwise I may feel the way owners of previous Call of Duty games are feeling now. But for new comers, this game's multiplayer is amazing the same way Halo reach's was amazing!

In other words, fanboys. Forget em. Seriously. This game. I liked. and dont even try to compare it Black Ops, its got nothin to do with it, this is infinity ward, the company that revolutionized first person shooter games with MW back in 2007, half that stuff those battlefield fanboys are bleeting on about came from ideas in MW. Why complain about lack of innovation when they had a formula that works so well with the 2 previous games? The graphics were always very good, so I honestly dont know why anyones complaining about that, or why it even matters that much. The campaign while admittedly a little short, is still fun, I dont believe anyone who says they didnt enjoy chasing a train in london, or firing hell down in Paris, or those parts where you actually feel like your in a warzone, and thats the whole point isnt it? Sorry if it wasnt realistic enough, hopefully next time you get one life for the whole game, maybe you should go join the army. Multiplayer, addictive as ever, fun, and as always irritating, but it still keeps you coming back. New maps are in no way small, theres great new game modes that you will want to keep playing, Spec Ops is always fun with a friend, and im glad they didnt tread on zombies, as thats Treyarchs baby, but rather try something new with Survival mode. I will get hours out of this game, because at the end of it all, its not perfect, but its bloody fun, and thats what matters in my opinion. Call of Duty has stuck to their tried and true strategy of crafting multiplayer. If you go into MW3 expecting radical changes, then you will be disappointed. But if you go into this expecting the CoD style of game play that has generated the massive following it has today, it will deliver. The fans will love it and the haters will hate it. It will keep us hooked for years from now, just like how people still play cod4. I was bit skeptical during the infinity ward/activition issue & thought this game won't come out as strong but I was wrong. I love this game because it's entertaining & I don't need a high end pc to enjoy its true potential. No disrespect to battlefield fans but unlike that game, modern warfare 3 has the complete package without having a brand new engine for scale & destructions. This game with a 4 year old engine, still runs silky smooth with 60fps & looks way better than battlefield 3 on consoles. While the new infinity ward & sledgehammer games played it safe by not innovating the series like cod4 did, hopefully the next one will. Keep it up guys! Expand

It's getting a bad rep for the wrong reasons.

Yes the spawning is less than optimal, yes the maps kinda suck, and yes "tubes" are back in (which I never saw why people were pissed about that in the first place; if you don't like it, don't play), but you're not going to find tighter controls, better fast-paced gameplay, or better weapon customization anywhere else. Best in the series?

But hey, I can live with that. If you're here to give it a bad score because someone used a grenade launcher on you or they knifed you from behind or if you just plain suck, then you have no real perspective on the game. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Again, have some perspective.

The difficulty of the game on veteran was a little disappointing considering the shortness of the campaign. When you have been gaming for a few decenia like I have this is a very troubling development to observe and I hope it is one that will end soon, however I am fearful the opposite might actually be true and this is just the beginning of an actual movement of marketeers influencing kids into thinking they have but one choice when it comes to a certain type of game. Every big release seems to be positioned opposite a different game of the same genre and even before they have been released a battle of words ensues on the internet as to whose game is better, more advanced or prettier and of course the ever present used-so-often-it-lost-all-its-meaning "fanboy" crops up in every other sentence. What you guys need to realize is that you are not fighting your own battle, you are actively involved in the marketing of a product and are willfully doing the job someone normally gets paid to do. You are not living in world where you need to chose between drinks, books, games, etc. You do not live in an either/or world. You can drink Coke AND Pepsi, you can wear Levis AND Dockers, you can eat Big Macs AND Whoppers, you can read Harry Potter AND War and Peace, watch The Shield AND The Wire, you can play Dark Souls AND Skyrim, CoD AND BF, etc. It is baffling to read 'reviews' on this site and at the same time be 100% certain the persons who wrote them did not play the game they're reviewing for 1 second but are actively repeating the same lines that have been said over and over again for hundreds of such 'reviews' in a row. The actual lines put into their mouths by the "other company" trying to outshine their competitors. I want metacritic to reflect the opinion of people playing a game and providing me with insight into their experience again, just as it used to be. Yes, it's easy to say it's more of the same - on the surface it is, it looks and feels comfortable just like the innovations in FIFA 12 or Forza 4 but look below the surface and you realise this is a game with depth. Firstly the single player campaign is a cinematic roller coaster ride. The story is worthy of a good action thriller and the action draws you in. If you are a fan of the series I'm sure you will enjoy how the game ties up all the loose ends, as always there is clever use of flashbacks to add story detail. The campaign is one of the few I will replay, it really is that good. Spec Ops adds another dimension, survival mode is frantic and the challenges are well executed. Solo play means you can get to enjoy this mode even if your friends happen to be busy and you don't like the idea of teaming up with the randoms on xbox live. The use of the XP / levelling up system works again well here. Again similar to before but just that little bit better.

Multiplayer is of course where this game really excels. The real innovation here is what I call for the rest of us. If like me you don't dominate the leader boards and are often middle to low on each round scoreboard previous versions of MW could be frustrating. As a result of the previous MW series bias toward only the best player I was always more of a Battlefield fan as there were simply more ways to gain experience than having to be a deadeye marksman. Now with the support packages and kill streaks that carry through deaths there is a chance to level the score. There is also a much greater sense of progression - probably because the playing field has been levelled slightly by the support packages - both in rank terms but also with each weapon and various attachments. If you were one of those who just liked to dominate everyone else in the game you probably don't like it - for the rest of us it's a big improvement.

By sticking to the same success formula with a rip roaring single player story and by levelling the playing field slightly in online MW3 is the best of the series.

I have had my complaints with Call of Duty games before and after sinking a few hours into each of MW3's modes I can say that it is without a doubt the most balanced and refined experience any of the Call of Duty games have ever delivered. The campaign is a non-stop adrenalin rush that keeps moving you from one crazy set piece to another. In multiplayer the game feels better than it ever has before with new point streaks and strike packages to help give the game a sense of balance that was sorely missed in MW2. Personally the highlight of the game comes in the new Spec-Ops survival mode. This new mode highlights what makes Call of Duty such a great gaming experience; online or split-screen co-op, fast past gun fights that increase in difficulty and a leveling structure similar to the online multiplayers offering allow this mode to become a very satisfying and addicting treat that will let players enjoy MW3 for a very long time.

AND It really is a shame what people are doing here by rating the game low simply because THEY do not care for Call of Duty at all. Most of the bad reviews have come from people who never actually played the game. I saw an article on IGN.com about how bad these reviews have been from users so i thought i would give my honest opinion on what i thought of the game and how i felt about the sad trolling and/or blatant misinformation that has been posted about this game. This one's for you Glen Schofield! thanks for helping make a great game.

The multiplayer is pretty much if it aint broke then dont fix it. Some minor tweaks and new game modes which make the game a much more even and accessable game for newcomers. Still by far the greatest online multiplayer franchise as is reflected by the amount of sales it gets every year.
Spec ops is much better and more thought through than modern warfare 2 and in my opinion is much better than the zombies game mode from another so called developer. If you are a lover of zombies however, it has a great survival mode for 2 players.

Well deserving of a 9/10 because it is what it is with some new features and more even gameplay for newcomers and everyone as a whole. It loses the extra point because it is just Call Of Duty and the survival is only 2 players. Have fun everyone and i will see you online :)

Just a last comment to say please dont listen to all the negative user reviews on this site because people are being crazy with the big fanboy battle over this and battlefield. They are both just a computer game and both involve pretend men running around with guns. Both games have flaws and both games have people who camp online. Battlefield is littered with snipers camping and cod is littered with people camping too. That is surely the people playing it and not the game itself that we should be giving a low score to. All i can say is buy the game you enjoy and ignore all these fools who think trolling a games score is a big thing to do. Why cant we all just get along. Its only a computer game afterall. Battlefield + Call of Duty = Competition, which is great for everyone :)

Anyways, I think that they have done it again. Without a doubt this game is an all round improvement on the previous titles which we all thought couldn't get better. The single player takes off straight from MW2 and had me glued to my seat until I had finished it. The story line is like that of a movie that keep you interested to the point where you say to yourself: 'I'll just play this next little bit so I know what happens', which is what I want in a game. The multiplayer is yet again a giant leap. It combines all the stuff we loved from the previous titles and improves in every single way. From the simple things like being able to connect with your friends over facebook (simple but brilliant), to the new way in which the kill streaks work allowing you to select assault or support depending on your gaming style, to the new game modes available.

The game mode that stands out the most to me is without a doubt kill confirmed. I find myself thrown in to a game with complete strangers who I have never gamed with before but who all work as a team. Now to me that is what makes these games successful, the ability to make people work as a team. Of course all of the other game modes are still there so you can play your classic favorites but give the new ones a go, you might be surprised.

The kill streak system now makes the game a lot more accessible to players, meaning that not only the elite, 30 kills no deaths players, get to use all of the toys that undoubtedly increase there kill to death ratio even more. Now you can choose assault, where your kills reset when you die and the rewards are used for assaulting the enemy, or support, where your kills do not reset when you die and the rewards are used to support your team. My friends who are not as good as some of the players on COD find this great as they don't have their hard earned kills removed from them when they die.

Overall I think this is a great game and it baffles me as to why it has got such low reviews when you consider the amount of people who have bought the game already and the amount of people playing the game who keep saying that it is brilliant.

I think people who are expecting a brilliant single player will be more than pleased with MW3 but those expecting a long single player game will be a little let down but you have to take into consideration previous games, and I mean all previous games. I have played near enough every first person shooter imaginable and what you tend to get is a brilliant and long single player experience with a pretty shoddy multiplayer experience, or a rubbish and short single player experience with an amazing multiplayer experience. Now I think it's safe to say that MW3 has a pretty healthy balance of the two which is rare in first person shooter games.

For those who are not into your multiplayer gaming online and just buying this for the single player: you are missing out and quite frankly foolish.

Cheers to the development team that worked on this I think you have done a fantastic job.

MW3 might not be a complete overhaul or innovation, but Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have tweaked and nigh-on perfected the genre for the conclusion of their epic Modern Warfare story arc.

The level of detail and draw distance that the engine is now capable of is a great accomplishment of the development team, squeezing everything they can out of the current engine whilst still ensuring the game runs along at 60fps - a rare achievement of late with publishers and developers trading performance for graphical nirvana. The second campaign mission alone is a perfect example of the scope now available.

The story, whilst not original, still contains the trademark COD set pieces and action sequences, and bombs along at a consistent rate of knots.

The MP aspect has seen a few enhancements, with the perks and scoring systems tweaked to offer newcomers and lesser players an opportunity to shine, whilst still rewarding the hardcore elite for their accomplishments. Again this is not a radical overhaul but a pure refinement and the MW3 MP now feels extremely polished the culmination of the games' imprint on online FPS gaming over the last decade.

To summarise, it's maybe not as original as its prequels or as flamboyant as its competitors but MW3 is a well crafted, fast paced and well put together adrenaline ride that does exactly what you expect it to do well. The MP is refined and, while not massively different to previous versions, takes the greatest online FPS MP experience and makes it better. Great for old and new comers alike, try it - you just might like it.

First of all the game looks great, its had a few minor graphical tweaks from MW2 but on the whole looks very similar, which is definitely not a bad thing. The game is being created for the exact same hardware MW2 looked fantastic on, and the improvements to the engine have made a slight but noticeable difference if you compare the two side by side.
The maps have been made smaller in an effort to always keep you in then action, this has both its positives and its negatives. The game is much more fast paced than Black Ops and does flow well, it takes a great amount of situational awareness to be able to do well in this game and the maps provide enough cover to tip the balance of gun fights without giving a lot of camping spots.
The reduced size of the maps does cause some issues with spawning very close to enemies, on more than one occasion I have spawned in direct line of sight of the opposition and had absolutely no chance of surviving.
There is a map set in Paris, with a view of the Eiffel Tower in the background which is definitely my favorite and could easily become a classic. There are tight passageways though buildings, a couple of long sight lines and generally a good feel to the map. Other maps are good and cater for a mixture of game play styles. There is a tight and fast paced map called Dome, which does lend itself to the SMG class, it does have a good location for sniping but its on one side of the map only and leaves the player very exposed.
On the whole the maps are good, with a couple of great maps in the mix, with all of them looking good.
The guns have all been made from the ground up, new models and characteristics make for an interesting choice, the M4A1 is a solid starter for the assault rifles and i was using this gun all the way up to level 35 with very little need to change to anything slightly more powerful.
The UMP 45 is back and the first weapon available to you in the SMG's and is again a very reliable weapon. MW2 veterans will remember this gun well, it was generally seen as an overpowered weapon but in this installment has been toned down slightly with more recoil and less range, although it still be very versatile with practice. Sniping is a lot easier than in previous games, and "quickscoping" is back. There has been a long and tiring debate in the Call of Duty history over this tactic, and one only fueled by Treyarch's decision to remove it from Black Ops. I have no problems with it being brought back into MW3 as it does seem as other guns can quickly take out a sniper with relative ease. There are the exceptions to this where you have a very good sniper setup in a long corridor but generally smart players will be able to use the map and equipment to tip the balance of the engagement.
The leveling system is less of a grind this time, unlocking new weapons and perks relatively quickly. There are 80 levels and the option to do this 10 times with the prestige system, then a further 10 times if you would like to reset all your stats in the prestige shop and start again. This gives the game a certain amount of longevity to the multiplayer but is not essential as the gains are mainly for bragging rights.
In all this is a very enjoyable online game, the killstreaks have been majorly overhauled with different "strike packages" available to suit your ability level and play style. I have noticed in the community a lot of negativity towards the game, mainly commenting on the fact that its similar to MW2.
In terms of graphics, menus, a few returned guns and kill streaks i can see why they feel that way but it is a sequel of a very popular, tried and trusted formula with a lot of the annoyances from previous games removed and more than enough new additions to warrant a full title.
If you look at all of the popular gaming franchises they have all stayed very similar, Fifa is notorious for this but it doesnt get the same bad reputation for minor new features and an updates teams roster. Battlefield has changed very little over the past few years, especially the latest installments.

Forget Black Ops. This game keeps everything that was great about MW2 and fixes what was broken with it. Anyone who gave this game a really low score must have very unrealistic expectations. The campaign was short but the multiplayer will keep you coming back. The Kill Confirmed mode really adds a challenging twist to TDM. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a fast paced shooter.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an actual review of the game. So far I've put about 12 hours into the game, and I will say I'm fairly happy with what I've experienced. I'm going to break down the game in 2 categories and rate each one: campaign and multiplayer.

    Campaign:
MW3 takes place right where MW2 left off, Soap is "dying" on the ground and Price is frantically trying to get help. With the help of Nikolai you escape capture and save Soap's life. The campaign then is splits between different perspectives around the globe as "WW3" is happening. Without spoiling the story, I'll just say the game is action packed and very satisfying. However, certain elements hurt the game including unlimited respawning enemies and the game playing itself through some of the more chaotic moments. Its a Call of Duty campaign, and is very enjoyable. I give the campaign an 8/10
+ Action that keeps you on the edge of your seat
    + Sounds
    - Unlimited spawning enemies

    Multiplayer:
Its no mistake, Modern Warfare 3 is dominated by its multiplayer. Many guns return from previous titles along with a few new ones. This time around there is no more "kill streaks." Instead, Infinity Ward has added "point streaks" to reward players of all play styles. The Assault package kill streak functions as the old kill streaks in previous games (when you die, your kill streak is reset to 0). These kill streaks are primary designed to help the player gather kills. The Support package kill streak does not reset upon death. Kills, capturing objectives, and destroying objects all go towards these kill streaks. These kill streak rewards are designed to help the players team. Finally there is the Specialist Kill Streak which rewards players additional perks after so many kills. Like the Assault package, these perks reset when you die. The core Call of Duty experience remains with a fast paced arena shooter. There are more customization options for each gun then ever before, and they come in the form of "weapon proficiencies." Basically, every gun is now assigned a level. Once you level it up more attachments, camo, and red dot markers can be added. This works great as players are rewarded for using a certain more often. New game modes include Kill Confirmed, which is basically collect the dog tags your enemies drop or recover your allies dog tags before the enemy gets them. In all the multiplayer is top notch and very enjoyable. Lastly, players can join up together for 2 player Survival mode. This mode functions similar to zombies, but this time your facing off against another army. Players work together and earn cash which can be spent on guns, kill streak support, and other options. All the 16 multiplayer maps can be used in Survival mode. In all MW3 is by far one of the best multiplayers available, and I give it a 10/10.
    + Balanced game play
+ Weapon Proficiencies + Point Streaks
    + Survival Mode
    + 16 maps on disc

    Overall I give MW3 a 9/10.

The voice acting is especially a highlight and with the several fantastic set pieces and different locations, the game succeeds in making you feel like you are in a Hollywood action film - just don't buy this game if you are expecting an ultra realistic game. I was also impressed with the graphics (played on Xbox 360). They were extremely fluid thanks to having 60 fps and the facial animations have never looked better.
Also in the game, you can find Spec Ops. Spec Ops is a fantastic way of prolonging the MW3 experience, with many extra missions you can complete either by yourself, with a friend or with a stranger over the interent. Then there is also survival mode, in which enemies come at you in waves and you have to try and remain alive. Though not the most original gamemode, it certainly fits right in with Call of Duty's gameplay. Having mentioned all of this, buying the game with just these features would be enough for me, but obviously CoD wouldn't be CoD without multiplayer and it is here that the game really shines. I have been a Call of Duty fan since the original and though CoD4 is my favourite, I feel that this multiplayer is better than that game. There is so much to do and so much to unlock in the multiplayer that unlike previous CoDs, when waiting at a lobby you will always have some new camo or red dot sight reticule look at. The maps as well are also fantastic with varied locations like the campaign, and they also cater for any player - except snipers. When sniping I did feel there wasn't enough openness and the maps were more designed for quickscopers - as mentioned before, don't expect an ultra realistic modern warfare sim. Overall, however I would say that this multiplayer is the most balanced CoD yet. To conclude, I feel that with all of these features and with all of them being such high quality, CoD is a great bargain in that you effectively get 3 game modes in 1. Though not trying anything new, it is clear that developers have stuck to a winning formular, and this greatly complements MW3. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is going to be one of the most successful games ever sales wise, and its nice to see that it isn't going to be so popular for no reason.

Modern Warfare 3 shares a lot of similarities with the previous iterations. They've thrown in new modes, new maps, a new campaign, a new form of spec ops as well as the original spec ops. Seems to me the only way the haters will stop hating is if this game had dragons, fighter jets and you got to play as Batman. I would ignore the negative comments left from users and just read the real critic reviews. Anyone who posts a 0 clearly didn't want to enjoy the game before they even played it (if they even played it). If you liked the other Call of Duty games, you'll like this one. Expand

The Modern Warfare series is back and better than ever. The story is passable, but it shines in multiplayer and in spec ops. I give it a 10/10 for multiplayer and spec ops, but campaign is a 7/10 so I give it an overall 9/10. It is a great game that all FPS fans should check out.

Tight gameplay, some new guns and the return of some CoD4 favorites. Spec Ops continues to be a reason to hold onto this even if you're not that into the multiplayer. The multiplayer returns mostly identical to previous games, although the gunplay is tighter and the weapons/perks have been further tweaked from BlOps to create a more balanced experience than MW2 without sacrificing the fun of using ridiculous toys. The actual multiplayer engine has been obviously upgraded and tweaked from previous games, creating and overall prettier game. Infinity Ward's terrible netcode does make a return from MW2, but it has been patched a few times so far and gets better each time. If you're a fan of faster paced multiplayer shooters, you should absolutely pick this up. If you want to play a game that's slower paced and has been optimized for the PC at the expense of the console versions, by all means play Battlefield 3. And if you're some sort of weirdo who has nothing better to do with your time than write negative reviews for a game you have admittedly not played, find a new hobby. Expand

First let me say most of these reviews must be by bf3 lovers because this game deserves no less than a 9 no matter how you judge it. I love this game! The multiplayer has been upgraded and works very well to keep you hooked for hours on end. The new strike package system is a great system that works for everyone. I do not understand such a low score for this game. The only downside I see is that a few of the maps seem to be based on previous ones out there but that just means it is easier to get used to them.

I have to say I feel as if most of these reviewers are being paid or haven't played, because even with it's faults this is still a very good game. Great game. The gameplay runs silky smooth, the graphics are clear and crisp, the new additions to multiplayer loadouts are a welcome improvement, and spec ops is as fun and addicting as ever. I personally like the run and gun gameplay of black ops, but that is not a flaw of modern warfare 3 but rather a playstyle preference. Modern warfare 3 is fun and gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Positives: Spec Ops mode is fantastic, and where I've spent most of my time so far.
Multiplayer is the same old, same old.
Single player is better than BF3 single player imo.

    Negatives:
The overwhelming impression that 'subscriptions' etc.. are just there to make more money...
Multiplayer is the same old, same old.
    Single Player is too short.

I got back into the CoD series with MW2 and have had a blast with each version since. My score is based on the multiplayer mode since that's generally what I play and I have been getting just as much enjoyment out of this version as the past ones, if not more. Any game that can keep me looking forward to the next gaming session gets a high score for me. MW3 does that and then some. Kill Confirmed and the new Strike Packages are a nice new addition that change up the dynamic enough so it's not all about the K/D ratio, which is a plus in my book.
Overall, in my opinion, if you had fun with MW2 and Black Ops, look for more of the same here.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
