This has the same problems as its predecessors; sloppy movement, annoying AI, predictable storylines and settings, a campaign that is far too short and does not hold up against a second run through. Oh, and the same, wooden characters who shout generic military lines like "Hehehe, this'll get the bastards", and "Light' em up!"

Exactly what I was expecting from Call of Duty now, just a churned out, thoughtless, soul sucking piece of **** designed only to brainlessley entertain you, but even then it falls short on its second play through.

The multiplayer is just awful in my opinion, the weapons, perks, and the new strike packages are great additions to the series but don't make up for the lack of features that were in black ops such as the wager matches, emblem customization, and player cards. Also, i hate the maps in black ops but i would gladly play any of the black ops maps instead of **** awful mw3 maps. They said that making them smaller would reduce camping **** the way they made the new maps only further encourage camping which ruins the gameplay experience. Also, the lag compensation and hit detection is worse than black ops which i thought was as bad as it could get, guess i was wrong. Anyways to wrap this up i give this game a 7 out of 10. The multiplayer is awful but the enjoyable campaign and absolutely addictive spec ops cooperative mode do bring the game up. Expand

I loved the arcade style fast gameplay which was quite different from other games I had played. World at War was released the following year, which I did not have high hopes for, considering it was made by a different developer. At first, I did not like it. I loved the campaign and Nazi Zombies, but not the multiplayer. However, after a fair bit of play time, I started to get into it, and by the time I had reached level 65, I loved it. The following year, I was very excited for Modern Warfare 2. I had been following it since the hour in which it was announced (no really, the hour). I went to the midnight launch, picked up the Prestige Edition and went home. I took the next day off and played it for 24 hours straight. I was absolutely in love with it. I also got this hyped about Black Ops, based on the recent history of my love affair with CoD. I once again went to the midnight launch, picking up the Prestige Edition. When I first started playing it, something was different. It just didn't feel like a CoD game. The only thing I liked about it was Zombies. I thought that the campaign was terrible, and no matter how much I played the multiplayer I could not get into it. After about a day of play time, I officially gave up on the multiplayer.

Earlier this year, Modern Warfare 3 was announced. Based on the disappointment of Black Ops, and the fact that due to layoffs, the multiplayer would be made by Raven Software, I did not have high hopes for this game at all. I did not bother with the midnight release, or even the Hardened Edition. In fact, this was the first CoD game since Call of Duty 4 that I did not buy on the release date. With the high number of friends playing this game, I decided to get it. I did not like the campaign, but Spec Ops was a lot of fun. When I first started playing the multiplayer, it didn't feel right. But it seemed that the more I played it, the more I started to enjoy it, even though I thought that CoD was dead when Black Ops was released. Well let me tell you something.

    CoD HAS BEEN REVIVED!!!!!!!

After extensively playing the multiplayer, I have once again fallen in love with CoD. The gameplay feels like a hybrid between Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, which I am really liking. The brand new strike packages are fantastic, and with the addition of the Specialist Strike Package, CoD is no longer all about killstreaks, like it was in Modern Warfare 2. There are a few overpowered guns, but since these are unlocked at early levels, the game is fairly balanced. The damage taken from explosives has been considerably reduced, which means you will see a lot less people running around with grenade launchers, like you did in Modern Warfare 2. Two new game modes have been added to Modern Warfare 3. These are Kill Confirmed and Team Defender. Kill Confirmed is similar to Team Deathmatch, but once an enemy is killed, they drop their dog tags, and the only way to score for your team is to collect those dog tags by walking into them. However, you can collect your fallen teammates dog tags to prevent an enemy from getting them. The other new mode, Team Defender, is once again similar to Team Deathmatch. It starts off with a flag in the middle of the map. Teams will start killing each other, just like in Team Deathmatch, but a kill is only worth 50 points instead of 100. The objective is for someone on your team to pick up the flag. While someone on your team has the flag, your team will gain 100 points per kill, making it easier to reach the score limit of 7500 points. However, if you have the flag, you will show up on the enemyâ

Black Ops was crap at first, and given a few months Treyarch had the game up to par. The strike package system gives you more variety with killstreaks, and the balance in this game is quite good, I can do just as well with the M4, MP5, or a sniper rifle as I can with any of the guns unlocked at higher levels. The prestige token's are another good investment, allowing you to unlock things as you see fit, such as permanently unlocking a weapon, or giving yourself another custom class. Overall, yeah this game has some issues. It's new, they can't find everything wrong with the game during development because it's not being played on such a large scale. Are you guys seriously this pissed off a game? I can't believe that after all the time you had to research this game some of you still bought it and are now complaining. I wouldn't mind if people didn't like this game but I can say that the ONLY reason people are this angry towards Infinity Ward is because of CoD: Black (crap) Ops. Treyarch provided "relief" to the FPS community that in my opinion was utter crap. Sure Modern Warfare 3 didn't push the limits but when you're trying to end a franchise there is little you can do. People complain at how the MW3 graphics look just like CoD4. Have you seen Crap Ops? It's horrendous. Even the cinematic scenes were so bad that i'd put it on par with PS2 games that had really nice graphics for it's time. MW3 at least had the decency to make smooth out the edges, the ambiance is the same sure but the character models are great to look at. I just wished they kept third-person so I could enjoy them.

As for multi-player, they fixed everything that the whiners back then were **** about and these babies still cry. It goes to show you that the FPS community has taken a lot of steps back since CoD4 and I still put the blame on Crap Ops. MW3 took out things gamers didn't like such as one man army and the strength of grenades. What did Craps Ops do? Put money in their multi-player and player cards. It is hilarious how Treyarch was "shocked" that players would make offensive images with the playercards. I wish I could believe they were oblivious but I think they were that dumb.

MW3 at least fixed that moronic idea of CoD bucks and made you level up your gun rather than having money. Having to manage your money and your XP was just dumb as hell. At least with the gun leveling system gamers could actually focus on gun challenges and get a rewards for doing so.

Another thing which isn't a fix but i'm happy they kept were gun physics. People say the gun physics are terrible and it sound effects are awful. Two things the sound was fixed to not give people with turtlebeaches an ungodly advantage over everyone else. And second the physics are as good as any FPS should be. In Crap Ops the bullets would literally go at the speed of light, sure bullets are fast but not to a point that it will hit someone instantly.

I read from a user about how this game didn't have zombies. I'm sorry if Infinity Ward doesn't like being a scam by ripping of another developers idea. Plus they revamped the Spec. Ops mode PLUS a survival mode. Like it or not I give IW a thunderous applause for at least trying something different which couldn't be said about the zombies in Crap Ops that only added more strange and annoying features to zombies, because I love some ghost stealing my crap or even zombie monkeys. Regardless zombies is far from any other zombie game. If you want to play a game about zombie then get a game about zombies. They're take is so bland with zombies just overrunning you. Nazi zombies stops being a fun game mode and turns into a game where you make a well-drawn out plan with no room for error that ends up in a botched attempt as you yell at the one guy who screwed up.

I could go on for ages but there's a character limit so i'll touch on my final point, single-player. Single player is amazing plain and simple. IW did a marvelous job in taking the story of CoD4 and linking it all together focusing on the face of evil, Makarov. Makarov is by far one of the greatest villians and even if you don't like the game or the story you could analyze Makarov by himself and say he was a BAMF. It definitely blew Crap Ops out of the water. What was the villian in that game? The stereotypical communist jerk-off who brainwashed people? Seriously brainwashing? That so cool that Treyarch implied that you were the shooter on the grassy knoll, oh come on! That is one of the dumbest ideas i've seen and that's just in the first game. I'm an atheist but I pray to god to make sure another abortion like the single-player of Craps Ops never appears again. In conclusion MW3 is a good game (not the greatest!) and only gets a 10 from me because some people are so sensitive like the little 12 year old kids they make fun of online and gave this game a zero for no legitimate reason other than their stubbornness. If Crap Ops had never existed and MW3 came out right off the bat you people would have loved this game. Maybe in a parallel universe Treyarch never existed and I count those people lucky and bless them and all the other people who take a stand against the mindless masses. If you want to fight about it then bring it on, and i'm not talking about internet fight. I want a real fight because if you're gonna talk this much trash then get ready to fight for what you believe in, but I guess you guys are cowards

My thoughts on how they run this game and banning: It's a good game and I was 8th prestige lv 67 tearing it up in multiplayer. Until I got banned for doing the prestige token glitch. Until I got banned for doing the prestige token glitch. I know it might be considered cheating in some peoples eyes but I only used it to get my 10 custom classes wich you didn't have to buy in blackops! Back to the matter at hand: I did get banned like I was saying but I also got deranked aswell I went from almost 9th prestige down to nothing or level 1 and 0 prestige! I lost all of my titles and embels that I had ganned and I also was stuck with 0 kills but 10000 deaths! I also was stuck after I got derancked with 0 wins but 1000 losses! I think this is way to horrible as a punishment for only using this glitch to get 10 custom classes! Not unlimited xp or unlocked everything, only to get 10 custom classes! Plus, if there banning me for doing this than everybody else that did is probably about to get screwed over aswell! About 50% of the people that I have ran into playing this game have done the glitch! 50% of the people that play this game! It might not be true but that is about what I have came up with for what I have seen so far. If they want to ban "about" 50% of the people that play this game, than thats there problem. Also, all the people that I have ran into that said they did this glitch have gone way overboard than me. Notice how I'm also saying GLITCH! Not a mod or a hack! I'm not boosting! Here's the definitions of a glitch: 1.A sudden, usually temporary malfunction or irregularity of equipment: "a computer glitch". 2.An unexpected setback in a plan; a hitch, a snag.

Notice how in the second definition it sais clearly," An UNEXPECTED setback." This glitch was unexpected! It was looked over when they were making this game! It's not my fault that Infinity Ward was probably slacking off when they were creating this part and they looked over it. I took advantage of their mistake! I didn't even use it that much either! I only used it to get 10 custom classes. Not double xp or the hardened or veteran package. I also didn't unlock any gear either! I only used 5 prestige tokens. I knew that if I over did it than I would probably have a chance of getting banned by these retards! I also kept my mouth shut about it aswell. They also could have patched the glitch aswell if they are getting this worried about it but no! Just ban and derank about 50% of the game or everyone that did it! Completely just lost a customer and I hope you loose every single person that plays this game! I hope you get such a crappy rating as what MW2 got and it looks like it already happend! The good thing about Treyarch is that instead of baning people they actualy put some work into the game and patch glitches! Worry about the booster and hackers before you worry about this crap! I was playing Free-for-All about 5 days before I got banned and I caught these three booster sitting in the back of the map with their tactical insersions just killing each other! The third person was guarding the cheesy booster not letting anyone get to them except for me who killed them onse! They still aren't banned! But they ban me for doing a simple glitch that I didn't even use that much of! Get your priorities straight before you get a bad rating! OH that's right , you already got a bad rating idiots! I will play blackops (a completely better game) and not touch your game once ever again! I hope people are with me and for all the haters! You have never got banned and don't know what it feels like to loose all your work that you just tried hard to get only because you did something small! If you read this whole message than I congradulate you for doing this. I shure wouldn't read this whole thing but I felt like it needed to get out there!

Personally found it to be the best of the Call of Duty Series, it was one epic set piece after another, I'm not sure where they can go from here? Decent length to the campaign too, nice to get my moneys worth for a change!

Campaign - About 5 hours long, but very exciting in every measure. There were some shocking moments in this campaign and it may be the best in the Modern Warfare series. The game takes place right after Modern Warfare 2 and it's a great conclusion to the trilogy. It's World War 3 and the job is to take out Makarov. 100/100(A+)

Graphics - Not one of the best first person shooter graphics I

The game takes place right after Modern Warfare 2 and it's a great conclusion to the trilogy. It's World War 3 and the job is to take out Makarov. 100/100(A+)

Graphics - Not one of the best first person shooter graphics I have seen, but it's still good to look at. The environments and character detail is good and I don't see a reason for a new graphics engine as of yet. It has the best graphics in the Call of Duty series. The graphics still could have been better and I don't see much difference compared to MW2's graphics. I felt that the developers came off kind of lazy. 90/100(A-)

Gameplay - AI is smart and dumb at times which is alright for catastrophe like World War 3, but playing on Hardened or Veteran difficulty is no joke. The game runs smoothly at 60 frames per second and it couldn't be any smoother. You have 4 modes to play within the game. There's Survival Mode which is in the Special Ops mode, Special Ops missions, Campaign and Multiplayer. The games has enough content to keep you going. 100/100(A+)

Multiplayer - The best multiplayer experience ever. It's good if your a team-oriented player or even a loner. It's for everyone because there's 3 different strike packages and one might be best for you. The perks are better, killstreaks are better and the gun selection is better. There's even theater mode to capture you match and you can upload 30 second clips to Facebook. I don't see why YouTube wasn't an option. I just wish there weren't so many modders and glitchers. I definitely wish there weren't so much campers. 90/100(A-)

Playing Time/Content: There's probably not a week that will go by when I won't play this game. Even if I have a really bad match with a very horrible score, I would still play again until I'm done prestiging. You have 4 modes to play within the game. There's Survival Mode which is in the Special Ops mode, Special Ops missions, Campaign and Multiplayer. The games has enough content to keep you going. 100/100(A+)

    Overall Score: 96/100(A+)

To the people who think this is Modern Warfare 2.5 or the same thing over again, it's not. I bet the people complaining about it will still play it or be interested in it. It's part of a series, it's not suppose to change much.

(because it's recycled with a few tweaks!) For me, this has been the most disappointing of the series, and I couldn't wait to take the game back, Hopefully The developers will listen to the community and bring us a new package! So for all of you saying "Oh, mw3 is just a rehash of previous game x"
It hasn't hurt pokemon, and they do this MUCH, MUCH more than anyone. What makes it bad if it's fun and new things ARE added (contrary to popular belief, there are new things). You'd also have to play the game more than an hour on multiplayer to even notice it feels different. What makes battlefield 3 better then this?

Yes it is dated, yes it is practically the same but it hasn't lost any steam. I give this game a 10 largely because it is the only shooter which has entertained me enough to play through the campaign more than once, and in terms of survival and multiplayer I clocked more hours on this game than any other on the 360 generation (splitscreen survival is great fun with a friend beside you) I feel like that is as good a reason as any for a top review but even if you don't feel it is worth that just ignore the ridiculously low scores and play this game it is well worth your time.

9.5 out of 10 (rounded up to 10).

When the first Modern Warfare came out, it was a well received, game changing, revolutionary title. When the second Modern Warfare came out, it broke all kinds of commercial records and was critically acclaimed, even if it was nowhere near as innovative as the original. MW3 is another incredibly polished, endlessly fun title that may not change the series too much but is amazing in its own way, due to the fact that Infinity Ward encountered numerous layoffs, the firing of its leads and multiple legal troubles. The fact that it has come out as the fifth best COD title around makes it all the better and the fact that it broke even more records than the previous game has insured that there will be plenty more Call of Duty games to come from Infinity Ward.

The story picks up straight after the end of MW2, with Soap rushed to a hidden base as he slowly bleeds out. As the defibrillators crackle to life, the title flashes onto the screen. It's an atmospheric beginning and itt certainly sets up the dark, yet explosive journey ahead. If you have ever played a COD before, you'll know what to expect- multiple plot twists, bombastic set pieces, quick time events... The thing is, it is possible to become emotionally invested in this campaign as multiple characters die and Makarov's end game comes to light. He is truly one of the scariest villains in all of gaming and the armed forces fight to stop him is noble and long (even if the campaign is only 6 or so hours). The acting is still fairly impressive and the level design is linear, if entertaining. The set pieces continue to increase in scale and size as well. You'll engage in a thrilling car chase, a submarine take down and the destruction of the Eiffel Tower in a decimated Paris. It is like three Micheal Bay blockbusters wrapped up in a shiny disc and case. As per usual, the levels have multiple collectibles, varying difficulty levels and a few Easter Eggs so the replayability is still fairly high. The bite sized levels certainly suit this style.

The campaign may be fun, but come on! Most people play these games for the multilayer. A bunch of new modes feature and each one is fairly good. Infected is the real standout and the cat and mouse gameplay built into it makes it tense and rewarding, as you fight to become the last man standing on the map. The maps themselves are well designed and a few really stand out. Dome in particular is tiny, but can be drawn in comparison to Nuketown. It's a fast and frenetic map and one that has become an instant classic. However, there are also maps set in train stations and (of course) war torn villages. There isn't a truly bad map, with each one accommodating to various play styles. But let's talk shooting. It has barely changed from the previous games- in fact, I don't think it has changed at all. The controls and specs are the same, but the new weapons and gear help to change up the experience. It still plays silky smooth and is still buckets of fun. The customization hasn't really changed, with the same Create a Class and killstreaks systems and it keeps the renowned progression and levelling mechanics of the previous entries. There are plenty of options and a lot of content. In short, MW3 is essential if you're one to get addicted to multiplayer easy. However, there is one more section to sum up...

Spec Ops return and they are still challenging, yet addictive. There are multiple new objectives, ranging from obtaining kills, to completing a level in a time limit, to just making it through a section in one piece. They are still perfect for co-op play and split screen is great with a friend. The set piece moments and variety will keep you coming back and the online competition is ripe. But there is still one more mode within this section. While the Chaos mode is DLC focused, Survival is one of the best parts of the game. Many would say that it is basically Zombies with humans, but while the large maps, increasing difficulty, wave based system and starting pistol swing the pendulum into the middle, the levelling system, large amount of unlockables and character variety make it stand out as the more content packed mode. The ability to pick any one of a load of weapons also separates it and while money can be earned, it can buy more than weapons and can also buy you killstreaks and gadgets. Survival is the real standout part of MW3 and playing with a friend is almost essential.

MW3 keeps the money train rolling with an explosive and sincere campaign, brilliant multiplayer, highly replayable Spec Ops and an addictive Survival mode. What it lacks in innovation, it more than makes up for with content and fun. Be prepared to answer the Call of Duty.

Easily the best CoD game in the franchise. Brilliant ending to the story, phenomenal multiplayer and excellent spec ops mode. You can play this for hours. (if you can find a multiplayer match today, although that isn't really the game's fault.)

my favorite modern warfare. this is basically a fixed mw2 but in my opinion way better. the story is a step down but the multiplayer is super fun with the customization, maps, and the player icons. and spec ops is the best part with a survival mode. survival is kind of like zombies but with less things to do. and spec ops missions can be multiplayer and a lot of missions.

I have played every COD this generation. I've really enjoyed most of them (COD3 being the exception). But I was finding myself growing a bit tired of the formula. Then I played the BF3 beta and found myself struggling to get into it. So when BF3 hit, I decided to rent it instead of buy it outright. I beat the campaign, it was decent. But again, I struggled to get into the multiplayer. It was well crafted, but just didn't gel with me. So I canceled my BF3 order and ordered COD MW3. And despite my earlier feelings of wanting something different, I found myself in love with the series all over again. The campaign is possibly my favorite so far. The multiplayer, while familiar, adds enough to make it feel exciting again (I especially love Kill Confirmed mode and the way points help unlock support packages...)! I've not spent much time with Spec Ops or Survival yet... but that just speaks to the wealth of content available in this title. There was much doubt that the "new" Infinity Ward could bring the quality that the founders were known for once they departed Activision. But the truth is, I find Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 to be a better game all around than Infinity Ward's last game, Modern Warfare 2. And since World at War and Black Ops turned out solid (in my book), between the new Infinity Ward and Treyarch, this franchise is in good hands. Yes, one could still argue that this series hasn't taken many risks this generation... but at the same time, they must be doing something right. I'm not the only one who keeps coming back for more, and having a great time in the process. Expand

Because at the end of the day, it's still the best online shooter along with BF3. I personally own both and enjoy them both for different reasons. Does MW3 lack innovation? Spec Ops Survival is the best addition to the series, and spec ops is even more fun with a point system attached to it. That being said, the MP does get a bit too frantic and can be very frustrating due to the tiny maps that reward people who run laps around them. Kill confirmed and some of the new playtypes are a happy addition to the sometimes monotonous team deathmatch. Overall I wish IW branched out a little bit and added some bigger maps and more options for those who do not always want to run and gun. Although easier to get into and less tedious than BF3's maps and MP, MW3 can learn a thing or two from their main competition.

Either way, if you are a fan of shooters and have a high tolerance to being overwhelmed occasionally in MP, then get MW3. Too many people are just rating the game a 0 b/c they want it to fail, not b/c it is a bad game. This metacritic rating system is flawed, but hopefully enough rational individuals will give their honest opinion instead of just bombarding the ratings with 0's.

The Modern Warfare series has truly evolved into a game series of its own and Modern Warfare 3 is proof of this. The stages are larger and more detailed than they ever have been in a Call of Duty game and the multiplayer experience is far more polished and balanced than MW2's online offerings. This is a game worth picking up.

The single player campaign is the first stop I make for every Modern Warfare game. The game is a visual and aural delight; at times I found myself taking a break from the battle around me just to appreciate the finer details the developers worked in. The sound design has improved immensely since the last installment, too. Guns pop with satisfying force, the voice actors put on a convincing show, and explosions distort sound more realistically than ever.

However, I will admit that this is not the strongest single player experience in the Modern Warfare franchise. It is everything I expected it to be, but nothing more. Joining the cast are several forgettable new characters, which is a shame considering the legacy of memorable (and occasionally infamous) characters in the previous MW games. Rarely did I find myself invested in the story, which suffers from pacing issues and fatigued plot devices. I did find some parts of the game pleasantly tense, but the campaign is predictable and shallow otherwise. MW3 definitely feels like the third in a trilogy in this regard, rather than a narrative that can stand on its own two feet.

Thankfully MW3 finds its footing elsewhere. Spec Ops has been rethought and restructured and it plays great. The addition of online play is a welcome feature and the loose tie-ins with the campaign mean that even those playing solo have something to enjoy.

Of course, the real meat and potatoes of any CoD game is its multiplayer offering. MW3's multiplayer is the most polished and feature-packed entry to date, outclassing last year's Black Ops in nearly every way imaginable. The developers worked to make the online mode a more balanced game and their effort paid off. Weapons are better adjusted, maps seem more focused, and the new strike packages provide players a whole slew of new battle tactics. Gone are the days when campers owned the game, which is refreshing considering this has been an issue for almost half a decade now. New game modes and a larger variety of weapons ensure that the newest installation in the CoD franchise feels fresh.

Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have crafted the best CoD package yet. Pick this game up and give it a go. You might be surprised at not only the volume of the content, but its depth as well.

Ops, a host of new missions that are frustratingly difficult and incomparably satisfying to complete that'll have you and a friend entertained for hours on end, there's also a neat variation on Spec. Ops known as survival, which is essentially a mix between Zombies (BlOps) and Horde (GoW3), (and by Horde, I mean a version of Horde that doesn't suck balls). Overall, the greatest standard FPS of this console generation, and a must buy for anyone who wants a game that'll last them for months on end. And a personal message to everyone, I'm not a COD fanboy, and i don't hate BF3, in fact, you'll see I've given it an "8", which given the fact that its a $90 game that's only real claim to fame is a decent multiplayer, I think is quite a generous score. Also thanks BF Fanboys for rendering this user review section useless with your completely unbalanced reviews, I hope you feel you've done your duty you half-wited **** Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
