Thus far, I have only played the Campaign, but I have extremely enjoyed it. One of the best campaigns I have ever played. I haven't played multiplayer AT ALL yet, but I really want to! Highly recommended!! Better story than Black Ops, in my opinion.

It's getting so classical but still very entertaining. I only play solo because of my poor internet speed, but i'd say the campaing is even more spectacular than usual and it deserves a good rate, even if the game is short.

This is the best call of duty to date. I took a week vacation to log so long hours. It will not be long enough. The game rocks in every aspect, it you like call of duty or 1st persons shooters, do not miss this game, it is an incredible experience. Answer the call, you will not be sorry.

The campaign for this game leaves much to be desired, but the Spec ops and multiplayer is satisfying and incredibly addicting. This game is the best of the series.

Many of these users that rated this game a "0" sound very much like Battlefield fanboys to me. Most of their criticisms are the "small maps","lack of vehicles", and "lack of destruction". Most of their criticisms are the "small maps","lack of vehicles", and "lack of destruction". If you want those things play Battlefield and stop hating on a game because it outsold yours. Honestly I have been playing COD since the original and it has consistently set the bar for first person shooters especially for console players. I would have purchased this game even if it had no single player campaign at all. I find it extremely hard to play single player when the multiplayer is this addictive. In my opinion a game would have to be completely broken and unplayable to warrant a "0" rating and this game is far from that. The shooting mechanic is still the best on the market and firefights are always frantic and exciting. Personally I love the close quarters combat. There is no better feeling than turning a corner, catching a glimpse of 2 enemies heading your direction and having the skills to get both kills when they have the upperhand. So Im sorry to all the users on here that played MW3 for a couple hours online, got slaughtered by me, lost all self esteem and rated this game a "0". The multiplayer is top notch but I wish they would have incorporated 4 players into Survival Mode. Also I'd hoped that playing Survival Mode would help to rank me up in multiplayer but they are 2 separate things. If there were some kind of reward to playing Special Ops that would carry over to your multiplayer that would be great. Other than those issues this game is awesome and there is no reason to not buy this game RIGHT NOW!!!!! Expand

There might be much of the same here for MW3 but it delivers. The game is hands down fun no matter who you are. All the new tweaks hit where it counts and the new game types are great such as kill confirmed. Brings out all the campers ;-)

Sledghammer changed it up and i believe that they took the best of call of duty 4 and modern warfare 2 and combined them. they have made me a believer. i would have liked bigger maps, and more updated graphics. small complaints which is why it did not recieve a 10 from me

Dont listen to these reviews. If you liked MW2 you'll love MW3. The Campaign is the best campaign in any COD ever made. I agree with the MW 2.5 aspect but im perfectly fine with MW 2.5. They took out all the garbage that was in MW2 and made it a more gun on gun game. No 2nd chance, No one man army no command perks.

I have played every Call of Duty game out, and I didn't start with COD Classic, the original, with the 2 expansions. MW3 is by no means a bad game. The COD 4 :MW is on of the best games that I have ever played, and if MW3 still plays like it but with new maps and new weapons with a re-vamped kill streak system then so what? Doesn't mean that it is not fun to play. My only grip about this game so far is the length of the campaign. I beat it in 5 hours, which is short and a little disappointing, but the actions sequences that happen in the game will keep me coming back. I respect the developers for not adding fluff to the story just so I can play for an extra 20 minutes. Besides, if you are only getting this game for the story, you are missing out on some great co-op and multi-player gaming. Sure people are going to hate this game because it is a big name game, but that doesn't mean that is a bad game. Activision and their yearly release of COD game is getting annoying though. They are going to destroy a great series, which is a shame. I will only by the games developed by IW to support them since they are one of the best developers out there at the moment. I would also like to show some love for SeldgeHammer games with their amazing contribution to this series. I hope that they will stay the path with IW to make great games. Not that I want to bash Tryarch, but I am just not a fan of their games. (Except the expansion packs for the original Call of Duty) Expand

There are numerous additions and subtle changes to the game from Black Ops and MW2, many of which are excellent. For example the new weapon sway on many guns such as ARs and SMGs when aiming down the sights make engaging at long range more skillful. The guns kill quicker than on Black Ops and the maps are smaller and more 'crafted' for intense short firefights. The Killstreaks are slightly more complex but less powerful and in objective modes, going for the objective counts to your killstreak.

The campaign is disappointigly short, much like CoD 4, WaW MW2 and Black Ops campaigns. However this is primarily a multiplayer game and that is where MW3 is strongest. Overall I give it 9/10. It is the game MW2 should have been.

Overall MW3 is a superb addition to the series

Unless you dislike the other MW games, there's no reason not to get this one. It polishes up the multiplayer beautifully. (Also, on the same weapons comments: What do you expect? It's MODERN WARFARE 3. Lol. Modern warfare only leaves so many options for the weaponry, as only so many guns are in common use/potential use. As is, the weapons are wonderful, if anything it's the maps that hurts their use.)

The beta for BF3 convinced me to go with MW3 (not to mention most of my friends were getting this game).

I've got about a dozen hours into the MP and feel that it's very comparable to MW2, but with some interesting (but good) changes and better graphics. I realize a lot of people are complaining that it's similar to previous installments. My response is, "yeah, and??". They're supposed to be similar. You can't make sweeping changes to the game and expect to keep the core audience. This particular formula has made COD the king of the hill of first person shooters. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The campaign to this point (about 5 hours in) isn't great but is definitely a step up from MW2. I'm playing through on veteran and am thoroughly enjoying myself with it. As with all COD campaigns, the gameplay and shooting is phenomenal. I find myself not overly interested in the storyline, but if I want a story, I'll read a book. I play games for gameplay and fun, and this campaign delivers on both accounts.

My favorite part of the game is definitely spec-ops. I've got about 15 hours into survival mode and am overly impressed. This (imo) is what makes this worth the purchase. As I mentioned earlier, I've been playing COD forever and don't really care too much about the MP any longer. This mode, however, will keep me wanting more. Single player or coop (coop is defintely more fun). I haven't even had time for the spec-ops missions yet, and I really enjoyed them in MW2.

Overall, this game is about a 9.25 for me. It's not an all time great, but is worth the price of admission. I can't speak of BF3, which a lot of people seem to be whining about on here, but I can't imagine it offers more as a whole. I really think it's a shame that there are so many degenerates posting reviews on a game. A zero, really? A 2, really? Even if you hate COD, rating it as a 6 or 7 will get your point across. But marking it a 5 or under is just plain hating and has no business here. A lot of us read the user reviews on sites like Metacritic to guage whether or not we should get a certain game, and the dumba$$es marking the score down are doing all of us a disservice. Please grow up!

Played CoDMW3 for a few hours, single player is tough on Veteran difficulty but enjoyable, multiplayer is as good as always with my only grief being quick scoping sniper rifle use being rampant (hence the 9). Co-Op is a worthy challenge to get 3 stars on each mission.

I'll have to admit I was a little disappointed at first. Yeah, it's same thing over but why mess with perfection. Call of duty is the best multi-player game. I know it has spec ops missions and survival but think about the family guy who can't play unless all the family participates. I have to say that i was skeptical after playing b.ops that this would suck just as bad but i was surprised. This is where gamers and haters go they're separate ways. The graphics and sound just blew me away, i almost fell back in disbelief that it was mw3. Yes i have played bf and all previous cod, like i said gamers/haters. The story has me hooked, up until the mrs. asks if she can join, then it's back to spec op. Which brings me to another point, the mission are both fun and challenging if you're looking for the 3star glory, even after they have been obtained, but the survival mode is ADDICTIVE. All it's lacking is 4 player capability. On line a shooter is a shooter, but as i said before, wars aren't just fought by ground troops, and you should be able to hide in the bushes not just beside them. This is just a sum of what i feel, but remember a game is the result of tons of hours and frustration that culminate in a work of art that should be admired as such. Here's the real deal, if you've played call of Duty MW2, you've pretty much played MW3. That being said, that's not a bad thing. It restores a lot of the tried and true you may have felt was missing from Black Ops (I did not enjoy Black Ops), and ramps up on a lot of interesting small innovative changes. Strike Packages were a brilliant split, being able to assign specific killstreaks for specific builds is everything I ever wanted, and the expansion of weapons, equipment and the like is fantastic. The only thing I'm dissapointed by is the continuation of Extreme Conditioning over Marathon, but I digress.

It may not change the FPS genre or be a game changer, but it builds on what already works and is satisfying to a great degree.

However, MW3 does a great job at remembering what it is.....a video game who's purpose is to be engaging, fun, and entertaining above all else. It's a TOTAL package featuring hundreds of hours of gameplay, multitudes of modes for multiplayer gamers, a tight single-player package and loads upon LOADS of unlockable goodies that will keep any gamer with a pulse busy for months on end.

They say the public like to build things up just to break them down, and that old adage holds true here. Modern Warfare 3 is the most popular thing to hate because quite frankly, it's the most popular thing, well.....PERIOD.

The game is extraordinarily well programmed, graphic engine is stellar locked at 60 fps, and it's hard to fault a game that stays close to a formula that quite frankly created what the modern shooter is and does.

Do not let the internet crafty fool you.....a lot of the time the internet nerd world will find a way to hate on something popular in real life. It's the fun thing to do.

This game is FANTASTIC and you would be a fool to rate or believe this game is anything less than an 8 on a bad day. It's technically and superficially an outstanding game that continues to DEFINE this generation of multiplayer excellence.

No game is perfect, so i don't give 10's. I'd knock this game if for only the fact the texture work could be improved in the graphics department and sound design could use a little work.

The concept of providing those who generate kills with the ability to acquire more kills is what made call of duty great. That is what kill streaks were made for. However, the developers took a capitalistic reward structure and made it socialist. Now, has my KD or win ratio been affected? no but it does upset me to see a kid who has only 1 kill call in an airdrop. The single player is exactly what you would expect it to be, but the familiar locales (NY, London, Paris, Hamburg, etc..) add a poignancy that has been lacking. Although there's nothing "groundbreaking" about the multiplayer, it stays true to what makes Call of Duty great. Hundreds of unlocks, weapon personalization, and customizing your soldier's load outs to fit your play style, thus integrating different people into the series, with a greater chance of success. The campaign was (as usual) action-packed, and enjoyable (albeit short).

MW3 follows some of what Black Ops started with a more gun on gun gameplay and improves on the Modern Warfare brand. From what I have played of the campaign it is compelling and action packed. The MP is loads of fun, especially the new kill confirmed mode which comes in hardcore, regular and 9v9 ground war varieties. Best Cod since Cod4.

the argument of iteration vs innovation is a valid one - at the end of the day, both are worthwhile pursuits, and it's clear that activision is playing it a little safe by introducing small changes (my favorite being the ability to level up guns) rather than introducing drastic overhauls. the original MW game was such a huge breakthrough you can hardly blame them for sticking close to it's playbook, but that said, if you didn't like it then you're not going to like it now. but for those of us who enjoy it, MW3 is just about what we'd hoped it'd be.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hi I have read a lot of damaging reviews on this game and a lot seem written by anti cod gamers, and fanboys of other games, (not mentioning names)

Firstly, The graphics are great, sure its no frosbite 2 or cry engine 3, but honestly bf3 doesn't look mindblowing on console, I own it for xb360 and pc, and its worthy of all titles on pc, on xbox howerver still a great game but nowhere near polished as pc,
Back to cod, the engine may be old, but it works, 1080p 60fps and looks and moves great, better than other games in the fps genre on xbox,
The story is among the best out there with Michael bay levels of cinematic action, sure its a little on rails and sure enemies spawn like mad, but still entertaining and fun, not as long as I'd of hoped for but good noneless with some amazing scenes like the airplane level, sheer brilliance.

Spec ops play is cod's answer to horde mode, adding another layer of depth to an exiting mode from mw2 so another plus, But the multiplayer is where it is shining, quickscoping makes a frustrating return, some dissconnection issues but infrequent enough to pose a problem, sure the kids who ruin cod are back with rapid fire controllers jump drop shot mods, and I'm sure iv seen one hacked player on launch night with 8th prestige at 00:15 from the UK! But as in black ops we have the means to report players for these things and vid capture is the evidence needed, I'm sure after 1 or 2 updates this game will be perfect, its amazing as it is now, I like the smooth but fast pace to the game, guns feel dangerous, and killstreaks are now availible in different guises thanks to strike packages such as support mode, never again will a camper ruin your stealth bomber! Because all actions from assists and captures count and roll over to your support streaks! New modes like kill confirmed add some fresh fun to the stacked playlist as well as all your favourite hardcore varients, It would have been nice to see the return of 3rd person modes as they allow you to appreciate the great detail and animation of the game.
Levelling up is not a chore no more, your weapons have profficencys which adds to your persistence too.

Overall its level design and fast pace lend back to the the best cod ever cod 4! But with fresh ideas better graphics its a massive improvement from Cods of late, Don't get me wrong I loved black ops, loved WaW until hackers ruined it, I loved mw2 but my favourite was still cod 4! Now obvious comparisons to battlefield are ineviteable but pointless, they are 2 different games, they look feel and play different but are equally as good in my opinion but for different reasons, Realistically this has more to keep you playing than bf3 due to spec ops and a addictive levelling system

My only downpoints are Quickscoping! Get rid of it or make a specific game mode for it!
I'd like to see what is possible from activision sledgehammer etc with a new engine, as good as this is, it will begin to fall behind! Get elite fixed as I purchased the hardened ed!

I question when people say "its the same game as the previous two.... the graphics are the same" but this is nearly always the case in most games out today. Look at the Elder Scrolls Skyrim, a great game but hardly any great graphical improvements but yet everyone is raving about it (to me it looks no different to Oblivion). The same can be said about the Mario games. Yes the story may change slightly but the bad guys are the same, the graphics are generally the same but that doesn't make it bad does it?
All i can say Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games, thank you for making a fun filled singleplayer and fantastic Multiplayer.

Other people that i've talked to think that the game is aweful, rubbish, etc, and i then asked them if they've played it and they answered "NO". So how can they criticise the game. The campaign mode is awesome, when you start playing it, you just need to know whats going to happen. I was disappointed that "SOAP" died in the campaign, as he was one of the best characters in the game, but that, in my right opinion is the only bad thing that happens in the game. I can understand why Infinity Ward killed SOAP off, but i think it wasn't really necessary. In terms of online, you could say its same old same old, but there are a lot of changes that make the online better, eg strikes packages, weapons, amazing maps, game modes, for example Kill Confirmed. Reviewers are also saying that the graphics are bad? How are they bad ?
Overall i think Infinity Ward and co have produced the game of the year again, and i congratulate them for doing this, and very much look forward to the DLC, and other NEW features that are still to come.

I honestly can't believe the poor reviews on here for this game.

I love this game partly for many of the reasons that it is getting negative reviews. I'm spending £40 on this game so I like the fact that to a certain level I fully knew what I was getting for my money. These same people would go through the roof if Infinity Ward completely changed it and they didn't like it.

Comparing it to Battlefield 3 is also pointless since the only thing that is similar is that they are both first person shooters.

As for why I love this game, it looks fantastic, plays at a fast and frantic pace and you are always in the thick of the action. The guns are great, I especially love the Type 95 which is basically the new FAMAS. I enjoy the majority of the levels with Outpost being a standout. I'm looking forward to seeing how Elite will work it to. In summary, it is more of the same from Infinity Ward but that same is far superior than anything else out there.

Saying a game sucks because it resembles the older version is idiotic. If something's not broken don't fix. And don't even get me started on graphics, graphics don't make a game GOOD. they also don't make a game BAD. They make a game LOOK good/bad, they don't cause the overall game to become exceptional. And don't even get me started on graphics, graphics don't make a game GOOD. they also don't make a game BAD. They make a game LOOK good/bad, they don't cause the overall game to become exceptional. Look back at those 8-bit games, those were pretty fun, and are still fun. Look at pac-man, not very good graphics, quite linear but very fun and addicting. The Modern Warfare engine has been working fine previously, so for them to change not only will it cause unexpected glitches, and problems(suddenly changing things never ends well...need I remind you the javelin glitch, and care pack glitches in Modern Warfare 2?) The only problems I have with this game so far(playing over 100 games I think I can give an accurate review) would have to be spawn points, theatre mode, sniping, shottys, scavenger, the Osprey gunner/Escort drop, advanced UAV. First off the spawn points need some massive fixing. The spawn points are just horrendous. I died by a guy, and spawned into his crosshairs. I also killed a guy only for him to appear behind me. That's just ridiculous. Secondly theatre mode needs tweaking, a lot of tweaking to be exact. Here are some problems I've experienced, and heard of. 1. When you record and open a laptop it records the laptop, not the kill streak used. 2. Clips get cut off if they go on for too long, there was a private game I was doing testing various things and it cut off at 27 minutes. Mind you I was testing a lot of things using the drop zone game type. 3. When you're recording and you pause it at a certain point and begin recording again, when you playback it pauses after when you actually paused it. 4. It would be cool if you could see the scoreboard during theatre mode like in Black ops, it's useful when you want to do commentaries and show your score. And lastly letting us see 1st person from other peoples perspective would be nice, instead of seeing them in 3rd person. Just to see how they saw their demise. Now sniping needs to be de-buffed. In mw2 I wasn't that good in sniping, I'd go positive but I'd miss a couple times at times. In mw3 I just hit anywhere and it's instant death for that person, way to easy, and overpowered. I don't even always have to hit them, it could just skim them and they die. Now for shottys, they are really, really underpowered now. They hardly kill at close range I need to be like inches away from someone to kill them with a shotty now. I'm not saying let us kill them from across the map like the spas did in mw2. Just don't make us have to be close that we can count the hairs on his face. For Scavenger let us pick up equipment from dead enemies, even if it has to be scavenger pro, let us do it. Just picking up ammo, and having more mags is kind of useless. Equipment is needed, if we have multiple flank routes we need two claymores to cover ourselves. Have it like mw2 where you can only have two claymores set up. Don't let use resupply under barrels, just equipment. Now for the osprey gunner/Escort drop, I'm going to talk about these together since they are the same kind of killstreak basically. First Osprey gunner, for such a high amount of kills needed can you allow it deploy flares, or make it less impossible to spot? Allow it to move around, or be user controlled, make it less huge, etc. For the escort drop, don't let it be shot down make it liek the emergency airdrop in mw2 where it can't be destroyed. and make it take less time to come down and drop the packages, it shouldn't take so long that the game ends before it lands. And lastly the Advanced UAV, don't let people be undetected by it(it kind of ruins the point of using it) also don't let be able to be shot down or destroyed. For the amount of kills it needs, it should stay up it's whole duration without any complications. Other than that I'm pretty much fine with this game, and I know you can release updates to address these problems, even if it has to be gradual keep releasing updates it would be worth your while trust me. If you fix the problems a majority of the community has with this game they might respond more positively towards it and not criticize it as harshly. The problem is you hardly fully listen to the community and that's what causes each game to have a lot of the community become haters and just sit waiting for the newest COD game only to be let down again, and again. Addressing the issues people have will make that 3.1 user score become higher, towards maybe an 8.0 if not more. Also make game longer/require more kills, or at least have a different game type where games last for longer times for those who like long games. like needing 10,000 score for team deathmatch instead of only needing 7500. or you need to confirm 100 kills instead of 65 in kill confirmed. You all need to grow up, drop your laughably pitiful elitist attitudes, and stop trying to compare two shooters that are virtually incomparable.

Now, with all that out of the way, this game honestly deserves the critic rating it got. The way that sledgehammer changed the way you get unlocks for guns, and the addition of gun perks for guns is truly one of the things that makes this game shine. I loved the unlocking aspect of MW2, i would grind through all the unlocks for guns in MW2 because it was fun, and rewarding. MW3 just amplified this aspect, and it makes the game extremely rewarding, and gives it an extremely high replay value through all the prestiges. As for the gameplay, it feels almost identically to modern warfare 2 in the character movement aspect, and as for the guns, it feels familiar, but not the exact same. Guns now have more recoil than MW2 had in all aspects, even if you put kick on any gun, there is still no gun that could be considered anything near a MW2 ACR laserbeam. The maps of the game are smaller, which makes for some insane action. Granted, there are some more gameplay styles that can be used for larger maps, but the smaller maps almost turn this game into a full on twitch shooter, with extreme fast paced action and frantic spawn switching. The spawns in the game right now are a little on the crazy side, but does anyone remember the insane spawning problems black ops had on release? Who says sledgehammer won't fix this like Treyarch did? C'mon people, the game hasn't been out for a week yet and you've yet to see how supportive Sledgehammer is going to be. I'm sure they're going to add in tweaks, and they'll only make the game more refined, and more enjoyable.

All in all, the game has great composure, and sure, there's some stuff to work on. But there's no extremely pressing imbalance issues or anything. The game is still all-round fun, fast, and rewarding, just like a Call of Duty game should be.

Either way, no game deserves a 0 unless it is completely broken or unplayable from the start, which it surely isn't. With that being said, if you're thinking about getting this game, ask yourself: "do I enjoy Call of Duty multiplayer?" If the answer is yes, then you will enjoy this game. It's as simple as that. The multiplayer does have new features; they're not mindblowing, but they are there. There are new maps, weapons, perks, killstreaks, etc. Call it Modern Warfare 2.5, an expansion pack, or a clone if you wish. The fact is, the multiplayer experience was already a good system, which they improved upon. It's more accessible to new players while still retaining its appeal to hardcore players. the ONLY--and I do mean only--complaint I have of the game is concerning the maps. Most of them are small, filled with buildings that cater to CQC players such as SMG/Shotgun users.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
