The main problem is with the multiplayer match making, it sucks and it is too difficult to find 'free for all' or capture the flag' matches. Playing the online is OK, the new Kill confirmed has helped me a lot to defeat the campers, they don't score if they cannot make their team get the medal. If I focus on the story and the add ons, I have to be sincere an put this mark.

This is a decent looking game with good gameplay, and good finish to the modern warfare campaign, a fun, replayable co op mode and hours of fun worth of multiplayer. It introduces new gimmicks and ideas. Could have a better connection to multiplayer though.

At the end of the day, COD is COD and other shooters like BF3 are different. Its like comparing Need for Speed to Forza 4, anyone with knowledge of the genre can tell you those games while with similar structure, differ insanely. The point is this COD train has already gone far off the tracks, and cannot be stopped. Every year now a new one in the series HAS to come out. So obviously, with a game based around what is essentially a point and click system with different colored walls to spice things up, asking for great innovation in between titles is a foolhardy notion. This game, like or hate the rest of the series, is the most solid well rounded of the titles. Sure the campaign was over the top, and was basically an endless corridor run, but the set pieces were interesting enough to keep me interested for the 5hr to beat it. Multiplayer is what these games are bought and played for, and in this regard this game shines. Spawns were greatly fixed from BO and the killstreaks have not only been toned down, but are now tailored to your play-style in terms of when and what you receive mid-match. The spec-ops mode extend the games value further. And if you have a bud to sit down with these missions are not to be overlooked.
In review, if you like to play your shooters alone, or at least lone wolf most of the time, go with COD. If your a team-based kind of player than BF3 might be a better choice. But don't knock COD because it hasn't 'evolved' or 'changed' over the years, what series has? Halo? Gears? Resistance? Killzone? All of these titles see little bone structure change between installments, only their graphics, weapons, and environments have been altered. If you want a varied and ever-changing genre, buy an Iphone, or get into the RPG scene. As shooters i believe will be emulating this game for many years to come.

I'm writing this review in response to a tweet made by Sledgehammer Games to get its fans to raise this user score on Metacritic. I think this game deserves an honest review so Activision knows how some of us truely feel about its Modern Warfare franchise to this point.

If you don't know anything about the drama going on between Jason West and Vince Zampella vs. Activision, then I suggest you do some catching up at IGN.com. Do a search on IGN.com about the lawsuit going on between these two guys (the original creators behind the Modern Warfare series) and Activision to learn more.

Once you know what's going on in this lawsuit, you will then know that MW3 was not made by the original creators of the Modern Warfare series. Actually its something like 30 of the top developers left Invinity Ward to go work with Zimpella and West over at Electronic Arts. So none of the top talent behind the series worked on MW3.

So in my opinion this is why we have a game that is no different, if not less, than what came with MW2 (graphics, controls, maps, story, spec ops, etc.). This is why the game brings nothing new to the table.

I agree with most of the users on this site in that this game is no more than MW2 2.5. I think Activision should have done something different with the this game. They should have realized that there's no way any team could have lived up to Zimpella and West's standard and creativity in such a short period of time.

What they should have done is made this game a summary of the Modern Warfare series on the these systems. They should have made a game that sort of paid tribute to the series and gotten themselves ready for MW3 on the new systems coming in a few years.

They could put this game out with all the fixes that annoyed people, included all the map from MW1 and MW2, included all spec ops missions, and just straight blew out of the multiplayer experience, really paying tribute to the entire series. And then maybe had a trailer that announced MW3 for XBOX 720 and PS4. I think doing this would have given Activision the time it needed to find a team that could really put something out that lives up to the standards we all expect from the MW series. But I still give it a good review. You should still buy the game because its still a solid experience and the multiplayer is still good, but not great. The multiplayer does feel a little slimmed down compared to its predecessor but it doesn't deserve a zero. I give the game an 8.0. I will give Activision another chance with the next Modern Warfare. I also can't wait to see what Zimpella and West are up to.

Another great cod game. The multiplayer is good but laggy. The elite sucks. I know it is the same as MW2, but it has obviously been a succesful formula. My biggest complaint is the lagging and hit marker issues that remain from past versions. Would have thought this had been fixed in a highly hyped new release.

The issues with MW3 come in multiplayer. It's laggy and, as you can see from other reviews, it is so so so much like MW2. Very little has changed. Some perks have been replaced but the replacements are the same thing in the end. The maps are ridiculously like the MW2 maps. In fact you will have no problem recognizing every map and where it comes from in MW2. Titles, emblems, etc just aren't exciting anymore.

Is this game worth the money? You 'll probably be more entertained by other titles this year (Skyrim, for example) and you'll probably play BattleField 3 a little longer (but that game is frustrating in its own ways as well). If you have the money to spare then get MW3 because it does have memorable moments but only if you have the money to spare...

It's like saying Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was too much like the first movie. (Enough Ranting) Now this game is, in my opinion, a very good game. The multi-player is a great upgrade from the last game and the new kill-streaks and the (new) types of perks make the multiplayer much more enjoyable. Now I do agree, they could of used a different engine for this game unlike their last one, but it is hardly noticeable. You will be too much into destroying the enemy team than standing and staring and rocks and bushes to see how "real" they are. Now with the campaign, it is just fantastic. It combines a good sense that you are actually in a world war and not just another video game. The story is fantastic and always keeps you on edge with twists and the epic battles. Yes, there isn't innovation, but if the system works then there shouldn't be. The saying that if it ain't broke don't fix it applies here.

I believe this is a great game, but not the same kind of great when I bought my first Call Of Duty, COD 4. I got it right before MW2, so I didn't put so much time into it until months after I got MW2. But COD 4 got me used to Call Of Duty. I wasn't so competitve during COD 4 or MW2, I mainly had fun and just messed around. But then Black Ops came out and I waited for Midnight Release. I swear everyday after school I would come home and play it, and I was extremely competive. (K/D and winloss) During the summer I hit 15th prestige and anxiously awaited MW3. Truth is, I have no motivation to play this game. I like to win, but why be so competitive that when the next game comes out no one cares about the last one. Small steps are whats keeping this franchise from reinvigorating the FPS genre, but as a whole this is still a playable game, and by no means is it awful. Before Modern Warfare, we had WW2 games that were being played out. Were they terrible? No, but we were growing tired of playing the same thing over and over. It's much the same case here. But this perspective has subsided with MW3, but before I continue I have to admit that I have already played and completed Battlefield 3's campaign, and I have to admit both BF3 and MW3 impressed, but I do prefer BF3 overall - but this is my review of MW3 so I'll highlight what I enjoyed during my latest Call of Duty experience, and also what I feel lets it down.

My main criticism of past cod games is that they never seem to have memorable characters, and even though the primary characters in MW3 are for the most part familiar I think during the course of the campaign they are far better developed, which helps immerse you deeper into the story and gameplay. Lets face it the story is so far fetched beyond comprehension, but it had me wanting more and keeping me on my toes with the different surroundings and locales - which were very impressive.

From a technical perspective MW3 doesn't break any new ground in the visual department, but that's not to say it's not a pleasantly looking game. It is however technically sound with regards to textures and non existent screen tearing, plus I didn't experience any slow-down during the more epic battles, but I do think the overall pace and weapon sounds need some work. I like a well presented game and feel the menu system, as with previous cod games, lack in presentation. The font used in game and each of the menu screens is related to the series but I feel it needs revamping as it feels cheap and outdated. But this is a minor criticism and doesn't impact on the gameplay whatsoever.

I'm not big on multiplayer these days, but what I have played is pretty much what I expected. It's solid, although like with many other people it is the habits of other players rather than the game itself that make the experience less enjoyable. The term 'camper' is what i associate with any Call of Duty release with regards to muliplayer, and yet again I have had to put up with their lack of gamership. I'm sure they could devise a playlist or gametype that could eliminate this plague and make the experience a more fulfilled one?... On the positive though the familiar ranking and experience system remains, meaning if you are unlucky enough be listed with a bunch of gamers that can't rack up the kills for the team, then you are not penalized too heavily for carrying your team to another glorious defeat.

All in all I enjoyed the campaign and have the need to play through it again on the highest difficulty, so I will certainly get the full value from the £25 offer Tesco sucked me into!

On with the review. The campaign picks up almost immediately after MW2, and it's bang bang, boom boom start to finish. You toss in U.S. Army's Delta Squad in the battle for New York, then on to France, Germany, UK, it starts to feel like the COD we remember from the WWII shooter era. The problem, is other than Soap, Price, Makarov, and company we have seen since the original MW series started, all the other characters feel very disconnected, I found it extremely difficult to connect with any of the Delta, SAS, GIGN, or any other organization portrayed. But our heroes from MW, and MW2, are back. I wont give away the story or any plot points, but it ties the series up nicely, and ends it, no cliff hanger, no BS, the story ends, but it just didnt feel satisfying, now mind you, I don't know how you can turn up the heat any higher than 11, but other than the Price/Soap/Makarov characters, I was just shooting anything that was on the other end of the hallway.

The multiplayer is a level of balance not seen since the first MW game, the GL's have been toned down, the maps feel much less claustorphobic, and much less obvious choke points. Yes, the other team can still pin you down if they are effective, but that effectiveness degrades quite a bit. I still found myself spawning next to the guy who just killed me, or stabbed in the back by the guy I just killed, and am still performing the reload for, but even thats small potatoes. You will spend much of the first portions of multiplayer getting award after award, and it's nearly rapid fire, but it feels like a ploy to keep you interested rather than actually award you for an accomplishment. It is still satisfying when you hear the noise, or rank up, but when you see some of the reasons as to why you got the award, you just think to yourself "THAT was it?".

Our friendly neighborhood Nuke is gone, all the modes are in tact, including a new super addictive Kill Confirmed mode, everytime you get a kill, you collect dog tags from your enemy, however, you begin to wonder if risking your own head is worth it when you see the golden tag in front of your face, when some jerk with a rocket launcher is waiting on you to go for it, or should you get the red tags and save your team the death point? I find it fun, and keeps me focused for hours.

I was lucky enough to get the game before a lot of people stateside got it home (Japan), I spent the first few hours or so thinking I was hot stuff killing everything that moved. After work ended, I got a really nasty awakening, aside from continual deaths and frustration, screaming kids were back to let me know what they were planning on doing with my mother that particular evening, and how much these puny voices claimed they could pound me to a bloody pulp if they saw me in person, yep, MW is back, and mom didnt look at the ESRB rating again.

I don't hate MW, or any Modern Combat games, they are well done, and polished well. I was more turned off by MW3 that within the first 3 hours of playing online, I ran into 6 hosts that were cheating/hacking/exploiting, 8 people were ALREADY 10 prestige, and maxxed out all around, and the leaderboards had already been screwed with.

One more note, I am disappointed that COD Elite service to date (21 November) has been either hit or miss, or just broken. The companies know how wildly popular this series is, but they werent "prepared" for the overload? What did they think was going to happen? To the biggest entertainment launch in history, great work, now please go back to the drawing board, and get something new out there.

It's unrealistic to ask each release to be as game changing as COD4 but eventually a huge gameplay change needs to take place before I can give a new COD game more than an 8. I am neither a fanboy or hater of COD, just a gamer who can appreciate plain dumb fun when it's presented. Thats what MW3 is, and thats what it does well. As much as I'm enjoying Skyrim, its nice to take some respite and unplug my brain for a while with some white knuckle set pieces and satisfying gunplay. Great fun and to be honest, if you buy MW3, you know exactly what youre getting.

With that being said, I'm going to recommend you don't read any perfect 10 reviews and don't read any reviews under 5. I am going to try to be as honest as possible with my review. First, I'd like to say that Modern Warfare 3 is a VERY DECENT GAME. Although it is probably the least innovative game of the year, the formula that Call of Duty brings in every game is always extremely addictive and, to the anger of Battlefield fan's as they read this, very fun. As a fairly neutral gamer, I like to think of the Call of Duty series as a sports game, kind of like Madden or NBA Live. This is because Call of Duty releases on an annual basis, so you honestly cannot expect a COD4 like game every year. Just like sport's games update their rosters and add slight tweaks, COD adds new gun's and tweaks its formula a bit every year and I would just like to say: THIS ISN'T A BAD THING, COD IS STILL VERY FUN. That is what I have to say. If you are a hardcore gamer, get this game. If you are a casual gamer and you have money to spare, get this game. The Call of Duty franchise is number 1 in sales every year for a reason, although it is not innovative or very creative for that matter, it is fun and addictive and get's gamers to waste day's of their lives playing it. On a closing note, I would also like to ask my fellow reviewers to be a little more mature and a little more professional in there reviews and not flame on a game for outselling their favorite game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 is an add-on to a controversial series such as it's predecessors. The game brings back all the things that we love and love to hate about Call of Duty. I will review the three modes (Campaign, Spec Ops and Multiplayer) into different categories and review, since it's what they deserve.
Campaign - The campaign takes after the events of Modern Warfare 2 and continues with a slightly new cast which includes Captain Price, Soap and Makorav, and also some new characters like the men in the delta team and Yuri. (An ex-spetsnaz) I was disappointed with the story compared to the last installment. (Call of Duty Black Ops) The ending wasn't as good either, I feel it wasn't much as a ending as it was a thing the storyboard writers written when it hit 12 am. Spec Ops - Spec Ops was a mode that was added two years ago in Modern Warfare 2, I found that I enjoyed playing the missions in Spec Ops enjoyable to play. When i played the original missions I got bored really easily bored, but the missions in Mw3 were revamped and the layouts and objectives were reasonable and fun, especially with a friend.
Multiplayer - Fun, but it didn't live up to my expectations for a good game. It (Like many other fans say) is a edited version of the Modern Warfare 2 system. I found it fun, but it could have been WAAY better. I have to give Raven Software credit however, the made a decent multi-player in which people can't get addicted to it. I will add my scores together:
3 points - Campaign - It added a mediocre ending to the mediocre series, I thought it was good enough however to get a three. 4 points - Spec Ops - The added missions and survival mode are a huge part of the replayability in this game, I love it! So I will give it four points.
1 Point - Multiplayer - I give it a one because It's nearly the exact same system as before with absolutely no risks taken for the ending part of the series. The only thing difference is a little bit better graphics and a touch of new guns, and some poorly made maps. I will only give it a one because it's RS' first time at a COD multiplayer mode.

The Call of Duty franchise has gone through steady improvements and updates since the release of Modern Warfare, and while it is formulaic, the Call of Duty formula is one that works, more or less. The campaign feels, as it has in past games, not much like 'real' warfare, with allies that move on without you through hordes of enemies with poor AI. Multiplayer is fun as ever.

So they have balanced that out now so killstreaks don't ruin matches. They have also given all the run and gunners the support streaks which I think is a good idea. My only problem with the game is the whole lag compensation thing. I often find myself hosting games and if I play late night then the Americans get such a huge advantage over me. I can run round the corner and shoot twice but when I look at the killcam I haven't fired once. I haven't played the campaign myself but I have heard it is too easy. That said, I did think the first modern warfare had an awesome single-player campaign, the second modern warfare's co-op special ops were a ton of fun, and the Black Ops' multiplayer was actually really good. I have to admit also, that the first night i played MW3 I wanted to throw the game into the trash, so I can understand a few of the low reviews. The way the multi-player is set up, it is crazy frustrating for the new player coming in, trying to learn the new maps, and with no good weapons to use yet. This one, more than any of the others, I was crazy frustrated during the first few hours. However, once you learn the levels and open up some weapons, it is fun. And, even more fun so far for me, has been the new two player co-op survival mode. Have been having a blast. I wish it was 4 or 5 player co-op like other horde modes, but playing it with a good friend is fantastic fun. The special ops missions outside of survival mode dont seem as good as MW2, but they are fun. I have spent so much time playing survival so far, that I haven't even started the single player campaign yet, but I've enjoyed the rest of the game enough now to know that it deserves much better than what it is getting here, so I wanted to hurry and get a review up. Based on the fun I've had with survival mode, special ops, and even the regular multiplayer, I definitely don't think this game is a bust. Basically, if you are tired of COD, then there's no reason to buy it. But, if you still enjoy the series, and have a good buddy to play co-op with, I think it is definitely worth getting. Expand

MW3 is similar to MW2 yes. You know why? Because MW2 was rated the best game by the community. If you made the best thing ever invented. And you planned on making something else. You would try to keep the basics that you had from your first invention. Thats what MW3 did. The new point system and weapon rank ups and proficiency add a fresh new experience to what MW2 already had going for it. However this is not a fanboy review so here are some things wrong with MW3. The spawns are way to close, I plan on this being fixed in a few updates or so. Another thing is that one gun in particular (Type 95) that is overpowered. But all of the little problems in this game can be fixed. And there not gamebreaking issues. A new company worked on MW3's multiplayer so it is expected that they make some simple mistakes. But if you liked MW2 and want a fresh new game. Then get MW3. and you Battlefield fans can hate all you want. While your here writing fake reviews. Ill be playing in-game

Modern Warfare 3's campaign is very entertaining. These games are Michael Bay movies played out through a control. The sound, the spectacle of it all was off the charts. and this is something that has gotten bigger and better as the series has gone on. Not many first person shooters have changed the wheel over the years and i never MW3 to do it so i got was i was expecting. I understand where the frustration comes with regard to multiplayer. It hasn't changed a great deal. Kill Confirmed and some of the new killstreaks are a nice addition but it is essentially the same thing. But if you bought this game purely to play multiplayer than that is your own fault for being dissapointed. You should have bought battefield 3 which hasn't got any hate compared to MW3 and the campaign in that game put me to sleep. The graphics were incredible but the rest of it just doesn't hold up to the MW series. So yea i gave it an 8.0. and i think that is accurate. anyone new to the series would be blown away by what MW3 has to offer (campaign or otherwise). and veterens to the series know what they are getting and last i checked millions are playing it. So go somewhere else with your hate! Expand

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 3 IS A GOOD GAME. FALLS SLIGHTLY SHORT FROM BEING A GREAT GAME BUT FAR FROM A BAD GAME

There has been a lot of mixed opinions and a lot of hate on here. I am giving my honest unbiased opinion The main reason for the hate is the lack of innovation seen in the last few call of duty's which is no different here. This game does the same job as black ops did, its more or less a refined version of MW2. However some see this as a bad thing and some see it as a good thing. The lack of innovation is disappointing which leaves it short from being a great game, but its still a good game and far from a bad game. The controls remain mostly unchanged since cod4, but they still remain to be the fps shooter controls around. The graphics are solid, they arnt groundbreaking but they are not bad either. The FPS is excellent as usual with the modern warfare series. The sound however is rather hit and miss and overall quite disappointing. The voice acting most of the time is great, but at times can actually be a little bit inconsistent as their tone of voices change irrelevantly at times to the situation you are in. The music is typical modern warfare series music, which is a rather dramatic movie music. The major flaw i think in the sound however is the guns, they all sound very similar and sound rather tinny, the sound effects of explosions, guns, etc are very disappointing, when in previous call of duty's the sound was good or always at least on par.

Single Player: Is a good campaign, not great though just good. There are moments there that really do blow you away and are as epic as it comes in a game, but then there are parts that are boring and predicable. I would say this campaign is as good as the CoD 4 campaign however nothing will ever beat the moment when that nuke went off unexpectedly. The voice acting and characters are great, but at time the voice acting can be poor, in the sense of when major things happens the typical call of duty was its just so fast paced that you don't get time to appreciate what is going on. The story's pacing is just poor, you are all over the place, going to different locations over the world instantly and it often feels like youve skipped a mission or some soft of cut scene, its just too fast paced to be able to seriously follow the storyline. (Im not talking about gameplay wise) Spec Ops: Is a refreshing new mode that takes us away from Treyarch's hit Zombies. Its not really innovative though, it seems like its just copied from a lot of other co op mode games *cough gears of war*, It is however a great fun mode, that is an alternative to zombies. However Zombies still remains to be the better co op mode, but Spec ops Survival has potential to become as good as zombies. There just isnt enough content and things to do as it stands, not enough upgrades to weapons, killstreaks and perks, and you dont get that sort of build you do with zombies where you have to get money to open doors, buy perks PaP etc, its almost just all there for you once you unlock them with the level progression system, which I thought would of been a good idea, but it isnt executed properly within survival mode i just think the leveling up just a bit of a gimmick. Don't get me wrong though the Spec Ops Survival mode is still great just a tad disappointing Multiplayer: Well in a nutshell its the same old.. that could either mean its a great thing to some or a bad thing to others. I am sort of stuck in between that crowd. I loved Mw2 and what they have done is kept the formuler but simply beef it up, better perks, point streak system and a complete balance of the guns including a good leveling up your gun system. Prestege shop. The new additions are certainly great, i love the perks, its the best call of duty for perks, i love the gun leveling, and I like the new pointstreak system, i also really like the two new modes kill confirmed and team defender. However playing 18days of mw2 is all this really enough to keep me playing mw3? In other words is a much more refined and improved mw2 but very similar, so if you didnt like mw2 chances are you wont like this, if you loved mw2 but hated the overpowered things in the game such as the killstreaks and guns+perk combos then you will love this, if you have grown tired of mw2 then this may get stale for you very quickly.

Like people say, it is extremely similar to past games in the franchise, but this one is is easily best. The guns, maps and game modes have been refined and are better than ever. The campaign is about the same as MW2 in terms of quality but it's still very good; shame it's missing the snowmobile sequance or something similar.

Modern Warfare 3 may not have many changes, but it's still a solid game. Let's start with the single player experience. It continues from when Modern Warfare 2 left off, with Makarov being the bad guy and Price and Soap trying to stop him doing bad stuff. Unfortunately, the single player for the Call of Duty series has really been demoted to a secondary exeprience, Multiplayer being the primary focal point. There's not a lot going on, World War 3 has come to the US, and you have to shoot a lot of Russian clones in the face while explosions happen everywhere. Sound familiar? The story is really like a Michael Bay movie, big and dumb with badass dudes yelling while jets and choppers and tanks make things go boom. I won't spoil anything, but really what happens in the story is gonna be forgotten as soon as you are done with it. It is a really short one too, as it took me just under 5 hours on normal. And you probably won't go back to play through it again unless you want those extra achievments you missed, wanna beat it on Veteran, or get the Intel collectible items. However, while single player falters, the multiplayer options are where the meat of the game truly is. Spec Ops has been more fleshed including a survival mode where 2 players shoot through wave of bad guys. Not really original, but is a bunch of fun with a friend. And it has a progressive unlock system just like the Multiplayer, so you'll spend lots of time on this mode. The multiplayer itself is still a good one, with some changes. There is now Strike pakages, and they determine how you get your pointstreaks. Yes, Pointstreaks, because now capturing objectives and destroying enemy equipment and planes and choppers count toward your streak. Anyways, Assault is the familiar one with rewards tailored to missiles, and choppers, offensive rewards. Support is my personal favorite, me being a team player, where your streak doesn't get reset when you die, and you get more team based rewards like radars, recon drones and an Emp (I love this one). Specialist is a very odd one, as you get perks based on how high your streak gets, and which perks you decide to choose, so at 2 you might do Scavenger, then 4 is Blast shield or whatever. At 8 kills, you get all the perks that you have unlocked and get a bonus for each additional kill. If you get to that without dying, fun times. As always the weapons and perks are real interesting and has something for every type of player, and prestige mode is back for the hardcore to reset and level up again. There are some minor gripes about certain streak rewards, the choice of server type (still no dedicated servers?), and many other things. It can get frustrating when the whole other team camps and uses Quickscoping sniper tactics to get AC130's and Juggernaught armor. But that's about the players themselves, not the game's fault. In closing, while the single player falters, the multiplayer is very fun. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a must buy. There's nothing like playing and levelng up with your buddies together. Expand

If you liked the last 2 MW games, you will probably like this one. Multiplayer is the emphasis, Single player is fairly short, but fun. The replay value comes from the multiplayer and the special operations. Personally I would like to see more spec ops. The only reason I lowered its score is the length of the single player campaign, I would have liked a good bit more to play through.

While it has many similarities to MW2, the new features are pretty nice. Having separate weapon and player XP scores is a nice change and the structure of weapons skills, perks, and attachments is a good improvement.

The multiplayer maps got stale quick. While they're all tolerable for the most part, I cannot wait for the map packs to start dropping.

Having support and specialist killstreak rewards is also a good improvement, IMO. The fact that gettign objectives done in addition to kills count towards killstreaks is nice, too.

Overall, this game is about what I was expecting. Multiplayer is fun and it is easy to sit down to play two quick matches and suddenly realize it's five hours later. There is a good variety of weapons and playing with different ones yields varying results, so there's probably something that all players can get used to using primarily. The promise of new maps is what is keeping me playing right now.

The only thing that drives me nuts is the juggernaut killstreak reward. It's BS.

Now lets talk about the multiplayer the true reason for why you bought this game, if you bought this game for the story then sorry but you're a **** idiot. The multiplayer started out really rough for me personally. I got this game on the launch date and expected to be one of the better players, that was not the case. It's funny how people will say that this is a copy paste game but when I, a veteran of the call of duty series started playing online i was overwhelmed by the architecture of the new maps and felt really vulnerable when killstreaks started raining fire down on me and my team-mates. This was before anybody was using blind eye and shooting down the buggers (now alot of people are battleing for the right to take them down). Anyway i started playing barebones to get familiar with the game and cursed the developers for having such overpowered stuff in the support class like the stealth bomber and emp. After a while though i got bored by barebones and decided to give other playlists a change, i was pleasantly surprised when i saw that my team-mates were actually playing the game instead of corner camping and generally acting a fool. So the multiplayer while not that appealing at first hooked me like all of the previous COD games had managed to do. I still dont like some of the multiplayer decisions they made like the strangely unbalanced and cheap supporting class which sounded like a great idea on paper and the incredibly long time that they have needed to get the true elite system in place like the clan challenges that were still not implemented 5 months after release(disgraceful) and here's a thing that really bothered me, when black ops came out the servers were overloaded they said that they had not exptected such activity, now i found this quite strange seeing how the last game in the series was modern warfare 2 and that game sold like hot cakes but i forgave and thought to myself maybe they thought that because it was a new ip in the COD canon but told myself that they would not be moronic enough to make the same excact mistake twice, enter sledgehammer and they pulled the excact same blunder on release, they appoligized and again said that they did not expect so many players and thats when i got a little angry. I know as well as them what license they are working on, black ops broke world records in sale and im not just tallking about in the video game industry im talking about the entertainment industry (movies, music and video games). They did alot of things that pissed me off but for most of the mistakes they did they made up for them and tried to get feedback from the MW3 community on how to better the game. MW3 is sledgehammer games first game and was made in co-operation with the remaining staff of Infinity Ward so please dont call it an Infinity Ward game because it isn't. That beeing said i actually like alot of decisions they made with this one. Specialist killstreaks were a nice addition, weapon levels was a good idea and proficiency also good, i actually dont mind the moab since it rarely happens in a match im playing in, having shotguns as primary weapons again was good the perks were really hit and miss and once again sleight of hand becomes one of the more overpowered perks in the game franchise.

They did not seem active enough in letting fans know when certain features were coming on the elite but this is one of the problems of having to release a new call of duty game every year and thats what fans are pissed about i guess, they dont want games to be released buggy or incomplete and then patched later and i feel like that is a problem that really needs to be adressed within activision, i dont think smart fans mind the wait at all.

The Spec Ops missions are interesting as ever, especially the new survival mode, and is fun to play with friends. The competitive multiplayer is where the game fails tremendously to impress me. Not only does the game offer almost no new innovation, but every problem from MW2 is back, and many of those problems are now amplified. If you want to play MW3 for the story, you'll be impressed, but not enthralled. If you want to play it for the multiplayer, more power to ya.

Well, I saw all low rating that users wrote, but my rate is high because I never played CoD MW serie. I really dig it.

If they do the same game that other MW I really don't know. But I liked the gameplay, the story and other features. The multiplayer game have glitches other FPS give us a best experience. But for a quick and fun shoot play, it gonna well.

It is a worthy title in the Call of Duty series and a worthy sequel. I'm giving it 8/10. Expand

OK so much to my surprise this installment in the call of duty franchise isn't much different like I am playing an expansion rather then a sequel but don't get me wrong its not a complaint I loved the single player campaign. Which is why I buy these games but multilayer is fun to. So all in all this is a welcome addition in the cod inventory.

Playing on multiplayers map you have to survive as many waves as you can from the AI enemy's. Multiplayer is the same old. Same ranking system, same style maps and some same weapons. Yet it delivers to the public and is the most played multiplayer game on Xbox. Overall it's basically MW2 and is nothing spectacular. Gameplay - 8

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Modern Warfare 3 is a good game for the most. Its not terrible what people make it out to be and it is not the greatest Call of Duty to date. After the events of Modern Warfare 2, many fans and I expected to be a sequel since one of the main antagonists, Makorov escaped. I waited so long for this game to come out and I thought it would be better than Modern Warfare 2, however the game is good and very enjoyable to say the least but it falls a little bit short. The campaign feels much shorter than Modern Warfare 2 and the story is not as good as Modern Warfare 2. The campaign feels that it has to tell a story about how to find Makorov and kill him. Once again the main protagonists in the game are OK, but Modern Warfare 3 doesn't add anything to these characters. I found it very sad that Soap or some character that you played as in Modern Warfare 2 dies during the campaign that made me very upset. Even though the campaign is not as good as Modern Warfare 2, it still manages to fun and pretty good. Last the Multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3 is good and bad. The good is it feels faster, there are some new perks that come in handy, some new weapons like the dreaded Type 95, and the way you get killstreaks is a lot better. The bad is the maps are terrible, most of the killstreaks from Modern Warfare 2 are in Modern Warfare 3, and feels very dull and repetitive. With Modern Warfare 3 not living up to the hype and Modern Warfare 2 does it deserve such a horrible rating? I don't think so. The Multiplayer at the time was one of the better shooters out there, and seeing other crappy shooters, I would play this game all day and get throwing knifed in the face than play those crappy shooters. The game is fun, if you enjoy Call of Duty you will like this game. Expand

Not bad! The graphics were exceptional but the story line was very repetitive. Some levels were a drag, where others were actually pretty good.

Hold on, 5,500 negative reviews on this game? That's just stupidity. Yes this game is more of the same, but thats exactly what most of you people wanted. The storyline is tied up perfectly, multiplayer is an improvement and overall it's a decent game. Definitely doesn't deserve a 3.3.

The game tries to reward you for doing well in every single way. I had fun and enjoyed it, that's what matters. 10 Times the game both black ops 1 and 2 is.

The Assault, Support and Specialist were great ideas, as well as the score streaks reinvention from kill streaks. To say there is no innovation here is ridiculous. The audio is great, the guns don't sound like pee shooters.

They tried their best with the survival game mode which can be a lot of fun with friends. What's not to like?

The campaign for this game is great but the whole game is almost identical to Modern Warfare 2. The characters and missions are good but the middle of the game is boring and it has repetitive combat. I did really like the game as a fan of infinity ward. The multiplayer is fun too.

I have no CoD games, but I play this one at my friend's house, and we play 2-person co-op survival, wave after wave of goombas sent at us. And I think that's fun enough that I want to keep playing for a couple hours each time. It holds my attention better than most games these days.

I understand all the hate; the multiplayer is imbalanced and overly frantic and the whole game is too similar to MW2. I agree to both of these complaints. However, a 3.3? Absolutely not! It is "okay" at best and I supposed that's why this game gets so much **** from gamers (I mean, it's what made CoD so famous). Taking these two modes into account, it's a 6 or 7 out of 10. But let's not forget the game's best mode, the co-op. It's like two modes in one; there are a series of 1 or 2-player missions like in MW2 and then there's a fun survival mode. The co-op adds so much more content to the game that it earns an 8/10 for its co-op and campaign, with its multiplayer more aorund a 6/10. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
