call of duty Modern Warfare 3 is easily the most anticipated game of this year. However the fact that there are little changes makes me wonder why it is so expensive. Also, the assault rifles are very overpowered and you will get raped if you dont use them. The maps are average- none of them are amazing. the one bright spot to the game is the special ops mode, where you survive as long as you can against waves of enemies. It was a blast to play with my sister, but i doubt it will stay fun for long to to the repitive nature of the mode. i would recomend to ll people who are thinking about buying the game to rent it first, because the multiplayer is very hit and miss. As i did not play the campaign i am only basing this review over the multiplayer and spec-ops. Overall this game is average, but not terrible. If you liked modern warfare 2, you will most likely like the game. however if you are looking for a groundbreaking expierience full of new things then you should go play another game(SKYRIM!!!!!) Its filler for a Friday night when I am tired of listening to Emo 15 year olds ramble & whine through my ear phones as I plaster with my SCAR. Multiplayer is solid, I have enjoyed the new maps, especially enjoy playing Kill Confirmed. I am very disappointed with the ELITE. I went Premium, I am paying for a service, I expect to get what I paid for. Activision needs to prioritize paying members like me over free accounts. In the end, taxed servers, 350 people in line in the cold at midnite, and 6.5 million copies of a game does not = ratings less then 5 or above... MW3 is the game that is going to finance the next evolution of the game that will blow your mind on the XBOX 720. But thats cool, dont buy the next one. I will be happy to be number one in line, and walk out of the store at 12:05 with my copy. So I rate the game as follows: Campaign Mode 5 , Multi Player 8, Spec Ops 6, Maps 9, Overall I give the Game a 7. Hopefully the ELITE mode will allow me to connect with some "adults". Expand

I only played this game for 2 days, but I can agree fully with some people here. MW3 would be more of an add-on than a full game. There are no innovations in terms of gameplay, the layout resembles Black Ops and one cannot play well the game in a calm and tactical way. Still very fast and arcade, good to spend some time, but unworthy of more than 7 points.

I've enjoyed Call of Duty since I first played COD2 on the 360 all those years ago. For me personally, after COD4, the series has gone downhill for me - a lack of new innovative features and tiring gameplay meant I had very little expectations for MW3.

The game itself is a mixed bag - if you're a massive COD fan, you've already made your mind up or already have this game. If you're not a COD fan, this won't change your mind about it. MW3 does very little different when compared to previous versions (a couple of new multiplayer modes and "revamped" killstreaks aren't enough) but I suppose it doesn't need to based on the popularity of the series, especially with the casual gaming crowd. However, the single player campaign is definitely one of the strongest in recent years, probably since the original MW. It has plenty going on, massive set pieces and a solid enough story with a couple of twists. There's very little downtime in the campaign, giving it a very exhilarating feel. It's as polished as ever and has the production values of a big summer blockbuster. For those who care, it easily trumps BF3's campaign.

Multiplayer was the big disappointment for me, and the reason I'm trading it in. There's nothing new introduced into multiplayer, aside from previously mentioned killstreaks and modes. And for me personally, I find the maps to be quite poor, no real memorable ones that stick in the mind. If you love COD multiplayer, then there's no doubt this is more of the same goodness. If you're not, or if you're tiring of it (as I am) then it isn't going to help you change your mind regarding it.

Overall, it's a solid game but fails to add anything new to it, which is a major downside. Plenty of user reviews have slated it for this, giving it 0 out of 10 etc, which to be honest I think is harsh. It's not the masterpiece that so many publications have described it as but at the same time, it's definitely not the abomination that so many users believe it to be.

The biggest disappointment I found when I opened up MW3 and popped in the disc, was its immediate similarity to MW2, the previous title in the Modern Warfare Series. This is the best Call of Duty game ever, but that's all it is. it's graphics seems even less than mw2, like a mix of black ops and mw2. The explosions are lame. The story was amazing but it was still lacking. The multiplayer is addicting as ever. but this just doesn't deserve game of the year.

This game is getting a lot of flak from the community (though some might be because of a fanboy war between MW3 players and Battlefield 3 players) but the game itself is not all that bad. Taken by itself, it actually is a pretty good game. The campaign, given the track record for "modern age" military shooters is passable, albeit short, but isn't likely the main reason people buy the game anyway. The multiplayer, being the core reason most people will buy the game, is very similar to MW2, and took out a lot of the things Black Ops had (credit system, the way the killstreaks work), which makes sense given the transition in developers between games. My biggest complaint regarding the maps is many of them are flat, yet have so many corners that it is almost impossible to not just spray and pray around every corner just to protect yourself. I'm assuming that means IW is taking the DLC route to address this with better maps. Still, it doesn't deserve the score it is getting from many, its a competent shooter and deserves a play through if you want some quick action in your FPS games. Expand

I am not entirely sure what they could have added or changed but either way they didn't do a ton. I feel like there should have been much more. That being said, the reworked multiplayer is a blast, especially with the new killstreak system that appeals to both hardcore and casual players alike. I love it. The Kill Confirmed Mode is a blast. Weapon leveling is pretty cool. Haven't tried everything yet but so far multiplayer has impressed. Has not wowed me though. If you really liked Modern Warfare 2 and aren't thrilled with anything else out there right now, then I would say go with Modern Warfare 3. If you want to do something really different, go with Battlefield 3 (Haven't played it myself but it has gotten good reviews and I am fan of the series). Modern Warfare 3, some cool new stuff, exciting, new game. Would have given it a 8.5 otherwise. I am docking 1.5 points for the campaign, but docking another 1.5 for the fact that I played a lot of this game before and with 2 years in the making, I should have been wowed, not just impressed. I was really excited about Black Ops but in comparison to MW2 it was a horrible game. Black Ops took away many of the things that made MW2 great. All the weapons seemed to be vastly under powered and it felt like it took 10 rounds or more to get a kill with an assault rifle. On to MW3. If you enjoyed MW2 you will be annoyed by a number of things that they either took away or split up so you have to decide to have parts of what you would have had. For example, I used to use Slight of Hand Pro as my first perk in MW2. It gave you faster reload, faster swapping weapons and faster ADS (aiming down sights). In MW3 you can have Slight of Hand as your first perk but you only get faster reload and faster swapping weapons. If you want faster ADS you have to choose Quick Draw as your second perk. We'll come back to this in a minute....

In MW2 I used to have a shotgun as my secondary. MW3 followed Black Ops lead in not allowing a shotgun as a secondary. The only way that I can have a shotgun along with my assault rifle is if I choose Overkill as my second perk which allows me to carry a second primary weapon. So, do I choose Quickdraw for the faster ADS or Overkill for my secondary shotgun? Other aspects include some things I miss and others I don't. -In MW3 they added a lot of sway to your gun when looking down the sights, more than what you would experience in real life. In MW2 if you aimed at something it wouldn't sway even a pixel (which I loved).

-I don't miss Commando (as I never used it and would always get frustrated that someone would lunge 15 feet to stab me).

-I do miss Stopping Power because I feel like it takes too many rounds to kill someone. -I do miss the fact that Scavenger won't allow you to pick up more Claymores. -I have mixed feelings about not having OMA (One Man Army) because of all the people that used it to keep reloading the grenade launcher. I would use it on occasion to replenish ammo on a Scar-H that didn't have much ammo to start with or to replenish Claymores. -Explosives are WEAK! (especially the grenade launcher)

-Maps are horrible! MW2 had so many multiple level buildings and maps with open spaces. MW3 just uses corridors with multiple entrances and it makes it feel claustrophobic.

-Spawning placement is horrible. It seems like every time I kill someone I immediately get shot in the back. Every time I spawn I feel like I get to shoot an enemy in the back. I thought I was crazy at first but my friends mentioned the same thing and then I read other reviews on here mentioning the same issue.

This game feels more like Black Ops than another Modern Warfare although its no where close to as bad as Black Ops. I told myself I would level up and give this game a shot. I just hit level 80 and I'm going to continue to level up a few more weapons but I feel myself wanting to return to MW2. Hope this helps!

But my major problem for singleplayer is well how now everything is an explosion and there are no quiet bits where you can reflect on whats happened. So the explosions feels very numbed and when a certain huge explosion happens you dont care.

Multiplayer, still great though familar. I have fallen out of love of playing FPS's yet I still probably play 10 hours a week on this online. The guns are well balanced, new kill streaks work, new maps are ok, nothing special.
Only thing I would want though (this without payed for DLC), is a couple big maps so I could actually use a sniper...

The "point streaks" in the game really do seem pointless as well seeing as for some of the best rewards in the game like "juggernaut" require 18 points in total as long as you stick with the same class. When you are playing a game like "HQ" who isn't going to get 18 points in one game? This means that you have about 6 people running around in juggernaut suits which defeats the object of a reward if it is so easy to get. One thing I can't bad mouth about this game is the campaign as I found it enjoyable even on the "Veteran" difficulty but I thought the special ops missions were very boring and tedious.
If you are a 14 year old boy who likes to join clans etc.. then this game is perfect for you but if you are a little older and just enjoy a quality game then I doubt you will like this game.

Overall, MW3 is a decent entry in the series, although it lacks some of the coherence of earlier installments. While MW2 and, to an extent, MW, set up clearly delineated plots following individuals through effective story arcs, MW3 bounces around a little too much, taking you to exotic locales, certainly, but seemingly only because they wanted to be able to say the game takes place in the US, Paris, London, and everywhere else. The resolution to a major series arc, the invasion of the US, is rushed and largely ignored. The campaign is chaotically structured, which helps keep the player off-balance, but also prevents a large degree of emotional investment in any of the played characters or, for that matter, the situation the world is in.
That said, the gameplay is solid, just as it was in MW2. This is no accident; no substantial changes occurred to the engine, so MW2 players will be able to pick up MW3 without any difficulty at all. The game is relatively entertaining and provides enough variety to keep your interest through its campaign.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much. The campaign is depressingly short, about eight hours. For a $60 game, this is too short by half, shorter even than MW2. In truth, it feels more like a long DLC rather than an installment in the series. For campaign players, though, it's a solid game, good adventure, and has enough spice to make it fun. It is on the short side, but manages to close the story without feeling rushed. Consider waiting until prices fall somewhat, though, if you're not keen on multiplayer.

In Modern Warfare 2's campaign when the Russians invaded the United States and you fought through the backyards of rural Virginia, that gave me the feeling of "Woah... holy **** this is kind of awesome!" just because it was so different than your traditional military shooter missions. Modern Warfare 3's campaign just didn't deliver any of those moments for me. It felt as though the campaign just went through the motions, and hit on way too many of the cliche shooter moments. I have always been someone who has greatly enjoyed the Call of Duty multiplayer experience, and committed hours of my life to it. I was excited to see some of the changes they were making, such as strike packages and weapon leveling because I felt it would mix up the flow. However, after playing eight hours so far of multiplayer, I feel it is more broken than ever. Perhaps it is just me, but it feels like weapons are far too overpowered now, and matches have turned into killstreak fests. For instance I remember in MW2 and Black Ops when getting kill streaks such as a stealth bomber and EMP were difficult and rare. However with the support strike package, these are frequent events in games such as domination. Overall Modern Warfare 3 still a good game in my eyes, but the campaign and changes to MW3 just do not live up to the hype they received. While many people may be complaining about the lack of innovation /change or that it's MW2.5, I am complaining because of the unbalanced feel to multiplayer and the campaign that is such a major let down after what I feel was an absolutely terrific MW2 campaign. I was also disappointed to hear the same soundtrack. When I leveled up for the first time, and heard that same exact guitar sound, I couldn't help but groan. The graphics are one of the most frustrating things in the game. It's ridiculous that a game that proclaimed itself the most anticipated release of the year to not even be on par with some of the year's best graphics (ie. Skyrim or Battlefield). So why is it rated a 7? I will be completely honest. The fact that everyone bought this game, including the people on my friend's list, makes this game fun. That is honestly why I don't find myself playing Battlefield more, seeing as it is easily a better game. Oh, and I cannot be proclaimed a fanboy. Battlefield 3 was the first in the series that I had actually bought, while I had bought the past 3 COD titles. So, in other words, I used to be a COD fan. I even used to care about my K/D ratio, but since I don't even like this game, I spend the majority of the time pissing people off in Search and Destroy. I honestly think that people's 0 ratings are justified, because you need to counter out the people who ridiculously rated it a 10. Also, shame on the "professional critics" who rated this game 100 out of 100. You cannot call yourself a gamer and not see all the flaws in this game. This game lacks innovation, and is just a copy/paste of other successful games. Go play a private match and tell me where they got the ideas of Infection, Gun Game and One in the Chamber. Survival is the same, but I won't fault them since every FPS seems to be getting some kind of survival mode. However, this survival mode is a bit lame, seeing as you play on multiplayer maps, rather than maps created exclusively for this game mode, like Nazi Zombies was. If this was the first in a series, this would be a terrific game, and one I would recommend everyone buy. However, seeing as this is the 3rd Modern Warfare release, I see no reason why this game is heralded by so many people.

My review will be broken down in three branches, one for each of the three main sections of the game. As everyone else giving a review has pointed out, MW3 was built using the same engine was MW2, and because of that, the visuals aren't what you'd expect from the third game in series (I'm talking Modern Warfare series, not the Call of Duty series in general) . The graphics do look a bit more polished, but that is most likely do to the artists, then the engine drawing them. Campaign: I just finished the campaign on Veteran difficulty. The campaign in terms of story is by far one of the best I have ever played in the Call of Duty franchise, but that is not to say I couldn't predict it either. On the final missions, the music is so perfectly made for the scene that it boosts up what would otherwise be a lackluster finale to the series. All together though, the campaign took me for a ride that I will never forget, at the end of it, I did actually feel very entertained and amazed. However, the atrocities that has plagued every Modern Warfare game still exists in MW3, by which I mean, enemies will disregard their own safety to rush past your A.I teammates and charge for you, and only you. The enemies know where you are, and if in view will shoot only for you and not at your other A.I teammates. Your A.I teammates aren't intelligent by any means, even on Veteran difficulty they are terrible accuracy. Perhaps the most annoying thing though is the fact that the enemies will infinitely spawn from doors and behind buildings unless you continue to move up, if you sit back you eventually will die from running low on ammo. Special Ops:Special Ops was a new feature to MW2, and it was a brilliant innovation to the series, Infinity Ward and Sledge Hammer Games didn't break the imagine barrier here, they added their own version of Zombies, a Treyarch signature. MW3 has taken that idea and brought it into the Modern Warfare perspective by instead of zombies, it's wave after wave of increasingly difficult soldiers. They added a couple new features like being able to buy perks and artillery, but it isn't anything new to the franchise, it's a mix from Treyarch's zombies and GOW's Horde 2.0 fortifications in my personal opinion. The rest of Spec Ops allows you to either go in alone, or team up with a buddy to do a variety of missions taken from the campaign or specially created for Spec Ops and try and beat them for, both to earn stars (get all stars to get an achievement) and beat times set by your friends. Multiplayer: Obviously if you're buying a CoD game, you aren't just buying it for the story line, you are buying it to play some good old competitive multiplayer. As one reviewer put it, it looks and feels like MW 2.5, and I'd agree, I do feel like I dropped 60 dollars for new maps, that's about it. Sure you do have some new guns and perks, but that doesn't constitute the money I put down for it. They tried to do too much with the maps this time around, their are about five different ways to go to any one spot, or in any one alleyway you may be running down and the the chances that someone isn't waiting for you, or will spot you is low, and it gets aggravating very quickly. Two of my personal problems with the game are, they split up the Sleight of Hand Pro ability from Modern Warfare 2, and put it's base ability and pro ability into two separate perks. They also took out Stopping Power, my personal favorite perk, why I don't know, perhaps to balance the game, but even still the game is very very much unbalanced. There are definitively certain guns that are better than others, and without Stopping Power if it's a bad gun, unfortunately it's a bad gun now, because without extra damage you won't kill anyone. Lag is a problem this time around, I've shot at a guy with the same gun as me, only to hit him first, but still die because my other bullets didn't register. The Strike Packages are terrible and not thought through at all, the Support Package where your kill streaks don't reset on death is a nice idea, but bad implementation. UAV's are CONSTANTLY being called in a match, it's very aggravating, also stealth bombers are apart of the Support Package, I don't understand that implementation either. If the Support Package actually did only Support it'd be nice, but with stealth bombers and advanced UAVs, not using it when you know you can get at least 9 kills a game is stupidity. When you think about it, a new CoD has come out yearly with the same fast paced action formula, so the fact that the latest in the series didn't change much shouldn't be that big of a surprise to anyone. I'm giving it a 7 out of 10, for being what MW2 should have been. Expand

First of all, all of the people in here that are giving this game a 0 out of 10, get out. I don't think I've ever run across a game that's truly that bad. No this game isn't the best CoD game ever, nor is it the worst. The Singleplayer campaign isFirst of all, all of the people in here that are giving this game a 0 out of 10, get out. I don't think I've ever run across a game that's truly that bad. You people say that the singleplayer is ok, yet you give it a 0? STOP SKEWING THE REVIEWS!! With that out of the way, I can get to the review. No this game isn't the best CoD game ever, nor is it the worst. The Singleplayer campaign is what you would come to expect from a Call of Duty game. A game with moments that make you feel like you are watching an intense action movie. Yes it is a bit short, but I don't want to play 15 hours of Shoot em'up in the desert. So SP gets a 7 out of 10. Special Ops is the same as MW2 and different at the same time. Survival mode is an interesting new game mode, but nothing we haven't seen in Horde or Firefight in GOW or Halo respectively. It isn't something you'll be playing for hours on end trying to get to the next wave, it just doesn't have that appeal. The missions in Spec Ops are the same that you would see in MW2, a few on the ground, a few in the air, and a few collecting data or what not. Fun but once again, not something you'll be playing for more than a few hours or coming back to again and again. So Spec Ops gets a 6/10 from me. Now let's tackle the real reason millions of people buy Call of Duty games, the multiplayer. First off, the people that are saying it's an expansion pack to MW2 are just plain wrong. There are at least 15 new weapons and 16 NEW MAPS!! A total new killstreak system and some new gametypes totally render that argument obsolete. With that said, why fix a core multiplayer when millions of people loved MW2? I guarantee you if they totally revamped the MP the same people would be complaining that it was too different, so there really is no pleasing you guys. That said, if you didn't look at the title you would have a hard time telling the difference between MW2 and MW3 graphics. Activision might have cut some corners in that respect. A few things I've noticed about the MP is that there aren't enough complex and wide open maps, too many CQB maps. A few too many overpowered dominating weapons (Type 95, MP7). And grenades are a little too underpowered. That being said there are plenty of changes to LOVE from MW2. First, the idea of pointstreaks is brilliant, it encourages team play and lets players who arent going to get 10 kills in a row still able to help the team in some way. Second the idea of adding weapon XP in addition to regular XP is also smart, and not those ridiculous challenges for 1000 headshots with every gun. (Honestly who does that?) Third, the fact that they made grenade launchers "noobtubes" as ineffective as they are might be one of the smartest and series saving moves a developer has ever made. SOOOO many people were turned off at MW2 because all 12 people were using them. All in all the MP is in a way the same but also in a way a totally new and refreshing experience. If you didn't like Cod multiplayer before you're not going to like it now, and if you were one of the many that did, I think you will really enjoy this new take on killstreaks. MP gets an 8/10. So contrary to all of the people saying it's not worth 60 dollars, it is definitely worth 60 dollars. Modern Warfare 3 won't blow you away like MW2 did, but it makes enough subtle changes to earn the right to be called MW3 and not MW2.5. Overall this game would get a 7 out of 10 from me. Expand

Allow me to backup ever so slightly and elaborate on why I believe this was such a let down. I will start by saying this review applies to about 87% of the total content of the game, which is the multiplayer portion. I did not touch the campaign, as i suspect the majority of players buying the game will not either.

Graphically the game is just fine. Users on this site claiming it looks poor or outdated are over exaggerating, as the game looks perfectly current (in terms of console comparisons) whilst not as impressive as i found in BF3 or Crysis 2. It's smooth and runs at the staple 60fps although does feel a incy wincy little bit like a MW2 re-skin, however this is not a bad thing as that game looked great too.

The overall game play is your standard COD fare, which is great if your a hardcore COD fan, that is to say guns kill quick (faster than BLOPs and appears slightly quicker than MW2), customised classes, kill-streaks (slightly revises and coming in 3 flavours essentially offense, defense, show off) and cluttered maps that allow your usual run and gunners or your "tactical" campers.

What i found lacking was only a couple of new game modes; kill confirmed is a variation on team death match and involves picking up a dog tag to score a point after killing someone. The maps were all mediocre and not nearly appealing to play the first time around as was the case in MW2. Having perks that remove recoil also reduces the competitiveness when using that weapon as you essentially have a weapon that is easier to aim with than a low level player new to the game.

In summary, i will say that the majority of you guys interested in supplying yourself with another COD fix will be satisfied and will find loads to keep you busy. If your after something different and more competitive, then get battlefield 3.

With repetitive, boring campaign with obvious, desperate, and pathetic attempts to make you involved, to a disappointing set of spec ops missions, to a same old multiplayer, this game earns my title of worst COD game I have ever played.

The campaign. Easily the worst campaign in the series, MW3 attempts to provide you with dozens of block buster sequences to pull you into the excitement of the concluding story of the modern warfare franchise. On paper that sounds fine, but it suffers from one rule, the cookie jar rule. Cookies aren't as tasty when you can have them all the time, rather than when you mommy limits them daily. The block buster scenes become repetitive, and leave a bad taste in you mouth after your done. Not to mention the laughable and pathetic attempts to make you emotionally involved at scenes when innocent civilians died. And no, I'm not one of those people who thought the airplane scene was disgusting. Neither is this, but this one is just pathetic (you know what I'm talking about if you've played the campaign). In MW2, I adored spec ops. It was possibly my favorite thing in that entire game, but this game, disappointing. The missions saddened me. They were boring, and paled in comparison to the MW2 spec ops missions. I honestly wish I never touched them. Survival mode. While survival mode is the only fresh thing in this series, which is ironic because it has still been done by other games, I feel it is going to be forgotten. It is fun now, but after playing, I believe that by February, the game mode will be forgotten. It is not nearly as fun and addicting as Nazi zombies, primarily because of the steep difficulty slope. As the rounds progress, the enemies don't necessarily take more skill to kill, it just becomes literally impossible to kill them. The strategy in this game mode is minimal. It's hard to explain, but when you go on to that level 30, you say to your buddy, okay, we are going to die here, we almost died last round, we have no chance. That is not fun. It also lacks "breathing room." By that I mean the thing in zombies when you have one zombie chase you around till your ready or you have to go to the bathroom or you have to eat dinner or something, this game doesn't provide that. The 30 second interval isn't enough time to feel good about that new highest round you got to, or to just relax after an intense fire fight. The Multiplayer. What can I say, its MW2 multiplayer. If you want the same game, but without the SAME problems, this is your haven, but notice how I said the SAME problems. First off, the maps. Boring environments and repetitive styles make the MW3 maps are some of the worst in the series. There are no really good maps. There are only okay maps, and bad maps. They chose one style of map, and stuck with it, resulting in them all being very similar, just with different set pieces. The guns. The gun sounds in this game are hands down the best in the series. Every bullet feels like it is making an impact on your opponent, and every gun but one feels powerful in your hands. The killstreaks. The killstreaks are well balanced, but that is ruined by the sheer abundance of them. It is far easier to earn one in this game than any COD previous to this one.

Overall. The graphics are showing its age leading to boring and unimpressive visuals. The engine is as silky smooth as ever, running at a 60 frames per second, which on PC is disappointing, but on console is fantastic. It gives that ol' MW2 feeling again. Gameplay is same as MW2, so don't expect anything different.

Also what's the point of showing a child die? War is bad? That's already been expressed a billion times and it doesn't further the plot unlike the nuke and massacre in MW1 & 2. Given the new standards in storytelling set by shooters like Blops and Bioshock, COD should provide both a good story AND good shooting gameplay. The multiplayer feels a bit better and has an interesting pointstreak system yet it's a bit stifled as there's no match making for gun games and infection mode. Also the Juggernaut pointstreaks are too powerful because they have both regenerative health AND near-impenetrable bull**** armor. The Treyarch's creative run-and-gun zombies mode is replaced with a boring cover-based survival mode. Listen devs, the reason why zombies was well loved because it was a refreshing change of pace that offered some old-school fun reminiscent of that of Painkiller. It's not horrible, but if feels like the lazy combo of multiplayer gameplay and maps with single player enemies. Despite a few new additions to the formula, this is generally the same game that we've been playing since Call of Duty 4. This in itself can be a good and a bad thing. It is bad because it's not really anything unique or different, but then again, it doesn't really need to be. Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, and sports games have been doing the same thing for years, and still put out fun and great titles. The same goes for Call of Duty; while not being anything original, it's still damn fun and addictive. Also, look at it a bit more realistically. It's obviously more financially reasonable for Infinity Ward to release an addition to the series that doesn't take much work to make. It may not seem "just" or "right," but it's smart. These are business executives, and they're all about the dollar, and hey, I'm not complaining too much, the games still amazingly fun. Sure there are still those frustrating moments when nothing is going right, you can't get a kill, and the game lags up on you and you get killed behind the corner, but these little shortcomings are far outweighed by the fantastic structure and addictive gameplay, and now with the addition of the strike packages, everyone can succeed. Support Packages are perfect for beginning players that need a bit of aid in their early efforts at becoming an expert. Assault Packages are the same awesome killstreaks from previous games, with some new editions, like the Assault Drone, Reaper, and Osprey Gunner. And last, my personal favorite, is the Specialist Package, which is for the expert players that can go on long steaks without dying. Getting the All Perks Bonus is one of the best feelings you can get when playing a game, given that you become a near invincible beast until you die. To me, most of the new maps are awesome, being headlined by Dome, Village, and Mission; however, maps like Bakaara, Seatown, and Fallen just strike me as uninspired, boring, and most of all frustrating. Last of all, the guns in the game are pretty great; however, I feel as if they added too many shotguns, where they should have focused a bit more on Submachine Guns, given that most of the maps seem more geared toward them. The PP90M1 and the Type 95 are beastly weapons that I never get tired of using. Unfortunately, sniping from Modern Warfare 3 has stayed with MW2 style rather than the more balanced and difficult Black Ops sniping. I wouldn't be surprised to see more and more people quick-scoping within the next few months. The final big addition to the game is how you can level up weapons. I think this was a marvelous addition to the game, and helped to improve your game with weapon proficiencies. Overall, the proficiencies were a nice addition, but I never found myself straying away from Kick, Range, or Attachments seeing that those were the most useful. Modern Warfare 3 is a great game, and will probably keep me and others playing for many months to come. Sure it's strikingly similar to previous titles, but as the saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Expand

This is easily one of the best single player campaigns in a modern shooter I've played for a while. It irks me that there are several review about this game, where the rating is a 0, not realizing there is a complete range of grades between 0-10, and this game is nowhere near a 0. At least not in my book.

The weapons in the game are accurate, the AI is for the majority of the game resplendent, and the levels are mapped exquisitely. While I agree that it doesn't add much of anything new to the series, it's still a really solid shooter. And while one can argue that it is MW2.5, and so forth, it's still pretty much what you'd expect from a SEQUEL. All I expected was a continuation of the story, some new characters, revisiting old characters, and a thrill of a campaign. This is what I expected, and its what I got. Sadly the graphics are getting outdated, and build upon the same engine used in COD4: MW. I'm reading some of the reviews from others on this site, and many of these say that the only good part is the story, yet they give it a 0. You'd think that would bump it up to a 2/10 at least. I am basing this review strictly from the single player and special ops, which are still good reasons to get the game. PROS:
    + Good story
    + Decent AI
    + Exquisite weapon design
    + Great sound design

    CONS:
    - Not much new content
    - Parts of the storyline become predictable
    - Graphics showing their age

Next, my partner took out the lights in a security depot while I donned night vision goggles and swept the building. After that we blew our way into the walls and shimmied up to eavesdrop on a conversation. We were sighted and chased out, only to be saved by a long fall off a large cliff, which we drove off of willingly while explosions exploded around us. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Does it innovate much? Quite a bit, but not enough. Is it still fun, of course!

If I were green to the Modern Warfare franchise, I would have rated this higher, however, I am not. This game has gotten pretty stale imho. Infinity Ward, your new killstreaks, perks and gametypes may be new but it doesn't change much for it to be considered something amazing.

Story: To be fair, time was spent on this, so I'll give it a go. The story is a globetrotting adventure that takes you everywhere from New York to India. While the amazing set pieces may blow you away, the story however, is pretty crappy. The amount of death and destruction has pretty much made me care less when some of the characters die. Frankly, I replayed MW2'sand COD4's campaign a few times, but I don't really care for this one.

Gameplay: Slick, tight and well controlled. It's just how a quasi-realistic FPS is supposed to be.

Multiplayer: Ah the draw of the game. I'll be fair again and I'll announce some of the changes. New perks, new weapons, new equipment (tatical and lethal), weapon proficencies, strike packages blah blah. IT is quite a large amount that was added. But then again, it doesn't really reinvent itself to be groundbreaking. The game is somewhat harder than before and quickscoping at close range seems to diminish in frequency. Also, it seems that they have tweaked the guns so that they are effective at their respective ranges only. Rifles are for medium, SMGs for short and snipes for long range. Picking something unsuited for your range type will leave you somewhat out gunned. Also, a new breed of overpowered weapons seemed to emerge. (Type 95s and akimbo FMG9s). However, with all those changes, you'll find that playing it would induce a "been there done that" feeling.

Sound: Nothing to complain about, the soundtrack is well composed and brings about the mood of the game. Voice acting isn't really bad, just fine. I do miss Sergeant Foley's constant "RAMIREZ!" soundbites though.

I like the changes made to the Killstreaks but why not keep the Black Ops improvments?! What the Hell are you thinking of?

Ths Single Player is just a joke now and is worthless other then to take a break from the multiplayer. Basicly, this is a good game that could of been great if you just tried to think more outside the box.

I have always been a fan of the Call of Duty franchise and I believe that, through the years, Infinity Ward and Treyarch have done a great job creating and developing the Call of Duty universe for us all to enjoy. Being an avid fan of the Modern Warfare trilogy (I dedicated many hours to Modern Warfare 2 over the past two years), I decided to pick up the Hardened Edition of Modern Warfare 3. I did this for a number of reasons, and I have to say the content that came with the game did not disappoint. On to my review of the actual game: Gameplay (8/10): The singleplayer does a great job of tying up the loose ends of the story and ensuring that everybody gets a good ending, from those such as myself who have been following the franchise since CoD4, to people who have picked up Modern Warfare 3 as their first title. I won't spoil it for anybody, but I'm a big appreciator of the CoD storylines and the ending of this even took me by surprise. The story is well-built for the game, even though it still includes some of the 'typical' things you'd expect in a Call of Duty game. Survival and Spec Ops add a fresh feel to the CoD franchise however, and will add lasting value for those not interested in multiplayer. Graphics (6/10): The graphics of this game are by no means BAD. They are crisp and enjoyable and the moments where you need to see the action are full of colour and easy to see. At the same time, with games such as Skyrim and Battlefield 3 raising the bar this year graphically, the Modern Warfare 3 graphics are nothing to write home about. They won't hurt your eyes, but at the same time, they won't knock you out of your seat. Sound (7/10): It has become tradition for me to play Call of Duty singleplayer AND multiplayer with Turtlebeaches, and the only game previous to this deserving of a 5 or higher would be Black Ops, which was very ambient and made you genuinely feel like you were reliving the experience. So we come to Modern Warfare 3, and I must admit, they haven't done a terrible job of the sound in this game. It's crisp, clear and if you listen carefully during the quiet bits, you can hear the background noises. Dogs barking in favelas, people chatting in cities. But therein lies the issue: There are very few moments in this game where things can be classed as 'quiet'. Multiplayer (9/10): This will be the main point of argument for most people. While I don't believe a game should be judged purely off it's multiplayer, let us all be frank for a moment - 90% of people buying Call of Duty will very rarely do so for the singleplayer. The Call of Duty multiplayer is the marmite of the multiplayer world - You either love it, or you hate it. I, personally, have been a long standing fan of the multiplayer in Call of Duty, and I'm currently 3rd Prestige in Modern Warfare 3. Let me state something as of now: If you preferred the long-sighted maps on MW2, where you could take your time, then don't count on MW3 to do much for you. Currently (In the foreseeable future with maps, this may change.) the MW3 multiplayer caters to the sugar-rush, ADHD 13 year old, who enjoys running everywhere with an SMG/Shotgun, gunning 4 people down, and running off. Assault rifles and LMGs are useable, but if you can't quickscope you won't find much in the way of sniping here. Lasting value (5/10 w/o multiplayer, 8/10 w/): Call of Duty has never been known for it's singleplayer. For most people it's all about the multiplayer, and without it the game is a good 30/40 hour grind before you can see the back of it. Multiplayer is where this game's lasting ability comes into it's own. A singleplayer adventure, this is not. Final comments: Call of Duty is what it is. With the seventh installment comes very little in the way of new ground. If you've been a fan for a long time, you know what to expect and you're likely to already be enjoying it. If you're not interested in the multiplayer and only want a singleplayer experience, you're probably better looking to Skyrim or some other singleplayer build. For those who enjoy a fast-paced FPS however, do not let the hundreds of negative comments (that clearly haven't been thought out) put you off. Call of Duty is a great game in it's own right, you just have to give it a chance. Expand

No. No they won't, because whether MW3 is or isn't MW1, it is still an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC game in it's own right. Having played through the story earlier, I have no say I was completely in love with the set design; the graphics and locations are impressive. Yes, Battlefield 3 is better in that area, but I'd sacrifice graphics for gameplay every day of the week. The missions you complete in the story are all too familiar (AC-130, Stealth, Breaches), but as the old saying goes, "Why fix what isn't broken?" Now, I haven't had a chance to play Spec Ops as of yet, but having asked a few friends, they really enjoy the Survival mode, something I'll admit I'm looking forward to. In terms of Online Multiplayer, it's the same game as the previous two titles, and that is a good thing. Sure, there are problems. Sure, some weapons need to be nerfed. But weapons in this game feel "right". They shoot as you want them to, as they are expected to. Kills are satisfying, as they were in MW1 (With that R700 ACOG we all know and love). No, it's not as good as MW1, but damn sure is this game better than Black Ops, and, if you don't compare it to MW1, one of the games of the year. A little unhappy about the scene with the couple and their little daughter in London; that half-a-second turn of events put the entire "No Russian" mission to shame. I've never had an issue with anything in a game, but kudos to Infinity Ward for making a genuinely moving piece of horrifying gaming that made me very, very uncomfortable. Expand

I'm gonna start out by saying that this game isn't as horrible as all of the negative reviews make it out to be. There is fun to be had in this game but it can get old rather quickly but this varies from person to person. Modern Warfare 3 is not a horrible and nearly unplayable game but at the same time it is not fantastic and was mostly over hyped. Let's start with the single player. As with the other Call of Duty games the single player is fairly short, lasting about 5 hours (maybe a little less) if you are playing on Recruit or Regular difficulty. On higher difficulties it could last about 6 to 8 hours. The story is a pay-off for the fans who stuck to Call of Duty since the first Modern Warfare. This is the last Modern Warfare of the series. The story for the most part is decent although there are some plot holes that may leave you asking some questions. The campaign is very linear with you being told to follow Captain Price or other people. This is basically the game holding your hand and telling you what to do instead of finding your own way of getting from Point A to Point B. There is some variety however as you will sometime get to control a new weapon or gadget of some sort so the game doesn't feel like a shooting gallery from start to finish even though it is for the most part. The campaign is mostly a thrill ride. You will see and do things that to others seem awesome while others will feel that these epic moments simply fall flat on their faces but there are some "wow" moments that you may like a lot and will remember fondly from the campaign. Next is Spec-Ops. These are basically a series of challenges that you can do alone or with a friend. There is also a new endurance mode called Survival, which is similar to Nazi Zombies from other Call of Duty games except the zombies are soldiers and you must buy weapons from a crate with money you earn from killing enemies and vehicles instead of buying them from a wall. Like most endurance challenges from other games you must survive waves of enemies that continuously get stronger and harder to kill while the player must also make himself stronger by buying weapons and other things such as armor and killstreaks. However, most of these things are locked until you achieve a higher level. Your level in Spec Ops is separate from your level in multiplayer. So you must rank up by playing Spec Ops missions and playing Survival in order to access new guns, killstreaks, armor, etc. As for the missions, they are entertaining while at the same time frustrating. Some missions even let you play a bit of the campaign but from a different perspective. Overall, they are good. Especially when you're with a friend. Now for the meat of the game. The multiplayer. This is probably where your gonna spend most of your time playing this game. Take note that if you've played most of the other Call of Duties from Call of Duty 4 and after then don't expect a great deal of change from the other games. Multiplayer has improved in a few ways but has also become worse in others but the core of the game remains unchanged for the most part. There are plenty of varied game modes to play such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Headquarters, Domination, Search and Destroy, Demolition, Sabotage, and the new Kill Confirmed gametype. There are also Hardcore Mode and Mercenary variants of each gametype. Along with private matches which have a decent number of gametype customization options so that you can set up gametypes to have fun with friends. Theater mode makes a return from Black Ops where you can record film clips to share with friends and such. There is also the weapon proficiency which let's you level up your gun to earn new attachments, camos, and perks. This is better than Modern Warfare 2's way of getting attatchments and camos since you just have to level up the gun itself to get attachments and camos instead of using the gun in a specific way to get what you want. Such as killing people through walls with FMJ to get extended magazines for your assault rifle and getting headshots for camos. At the same time this is worse than Black Ops since most of the attachments and camos are preference. In Black Ops you could spend CoD Points to buy the attachment or camo that you want instead of leveling up for it. Killstreaks are split into strike packages. You have Assault, Support, and Specialist. Assault and Specialist work similarly where if you do good then you do better with momentum. Assault has killstreaks that work in an offensive manner while Specialist will give you additional perks of your choosing with kills. Support is self explanatory the only exception is that you have point streaks which carry over even after you die. There is some weapon imbalance but this can be fixed through patching. The multiplayer is enjoyable and sometimes addicting but you won't find much new. Expand

Let's not be blinded by all the negative feedback. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is a good game. It's not a industry changing game but it is a good game. The story is worth experiencing. The multiplayer is addicting but the formula is little different from Call of Duty 4 which is 4 years and 4 games later. The survival isn't anything that hasn't been seen before. I believe this is the worst multiplayer in COD history. fourzerotwo promised a lot of changes and it got me excited. So I was very disappointed when none of those promises were kept, with exception they noobtubes were nefred, which made me mad, because they werent even that annoying. If someone chooses to go like 30-1 with one man army noobtubes, so be it, why should the commentators on youtube really affect what happens. All of the mw2 commentators complained about this, when they did themselves. I did it and thought it was fun. The graphics were not very good. I liked the high quality detail of black ops. This game was an overall disappointment, I thought that this game was going to be awesome and the best, but its basically mw2.5, I mean, theres not really that big of a difference really, same engine, same guns, same attachments, same developer, one was less fun and not worth $60 and your time.

While I won't get into spoilers, it basically wraps up the story fans of the other Modern Warfare titles are sure to enjoy. The multiplayer adds some new features, but all in all it is still the same old game. I honestly got bored with it faster than previous Call of Duty's simply because I've already had the experience with it in the past. While it is fun and easy to lose some hours into, it's easy to say that the FPS genre popularity (at least for me) is slowly declining. The Spec Ops is definitely a step up from Modern Warfare 2's. With missions to do, and survival it is sure to keep you entertained for a while with one other friend. By yourself, however, it may be a little bit easier to get bored quicker. The unlock and ranking system is unique and very different from the previous title. But looking deeply into it, it does get repetitive. Go kill some hostiles and collect something of importance, or defend an area. The survival mode on the other hand has different difficulties which adds to the pizazz of the overall game. Once again it is much better and I highly recommend playing with one friend (2 player co-op) so you have more fun with it. Overall, Modern Warfare 3 is a good game and could have been a lot better, minus all the repetitive and perhaps an enhanced multiplayer with even more changes. Expand

It is very obvious this game was rushed out of the gate from day 1 and it is pretty evident from a couple of things like the fact that the model shotgun has an attachments proficiency even though it has no attachments to begin with. Another thing why is there no hardcore free for all when it was such a fan favorite in previous titles, and why did the hardcore team death match not have ricochet (where you can't kill your team mates) from the start when in Black ops they finally decided to add it to stop people from team killing the whole game. Why has it taken so long for them to get Elite up and running like they said they would in regards to clan competitions. Aside from these problems MW3 is one of the most polished shooters on the market and fans of the series will feel right at home. I would just like to see a map pack with more than 1 or 2 maps in it, I know they spread it out so Elite members would feel like they are getting something every month like they promised but even with releasing 1 or 2 maps a month the game is starting to feel stale quick. The campaign was alright if not a bit hard to follow but I defiantly wasn't as impressed with it as I was in the previous two. It is time for us to take a stand as gamers and demand innovation because if they keep selling more of the almost the same game every time they would be stupid to stop. Why improve a game when they can slap a fresh paint of coat on it and break even more sales records than the one before. How about releasing a map pack with 5 favorites from older versions just a sign of good faith to the audience that has supported them from day 1, I think its an insult to people who bought elite to say sorry we haven't made Elite the experience we promised but thanks for your fifty bucks here's a prestige token. I love the COD franchise, I appreciate what it's done for gaming as a whole and I totally respect the numbers it puts up yearly. This game does not deserve a 1 or a 3 because it IS a good game. However....with a few exceptions it is the same formula year in and year out.

After 2 days worth of gaming in the MP I can honestly say I don't know why I buy these games yearly, it's clear to me

The campaign is absolutely beautiful. Some graphic problems are present and that is essentially why it doesn't get a perfect score. The story is an excellent continuation of Price's story, and the missions are exciting and gripping. I played through on veteran difficulty and it was extremely challenging and felt realistic and accurate. There is very little I would change about this game up to this point.

    MULTIPLAYER: 2.5/5
Okay, this is where problems begin. Firstly, for Xbox 360 users paying for ELITE for me is just a money grabbing ploy. The map packs in Black Ops were ridiculously priced for the amount of content, and this is even worse. Considering we will be seeing Treyarch's newest addition within the next 6-8 months, this is not a prudent investment for me. Secondly, the game mechanics are unbelievably absurd; hardcore players will find their rockets and grenades useless against Ballistic vests; Shotguns can kill at greater than 30 meters; No recoil on high-level SMG's. Essentially, the multiplayer does not play to people who use strategy, it plays to random chaos. Kill confirmed is a nice addition, but the ricochet system results in your death for other people's stupidity. The hardcore system in Black Ops was much fairer as team-killing resulted in getting kicked after 2 offences. Once you drop a martyrdom grenade and your teammate runs over it you will know what I mean.

Overall, good to average. Brilliant campaign, bad multiplayer. That's it.

An average game. It was forced to fix a messed up story in mw2. Sledgehammer was brought into fixing a series that had been completely messed up in mw2. The story is Ok. Nothing special. The multiplayer is also fun and goes back to some classic cod roots while still keeping the balancing that was put back in place in blops. A good shooter but nothing too special.

The campaign was the biggest let down for me personally by not having more large epic battles other than the levels based in New York City. Multiplayer is almost exactly the same from previous titles, just that there are some new kill streaks, new guns, and new maps. The campaign is not believeable at times because of how predictable or linear it is with cliches from this genre, but who cares. The one thing that pulls millions of people to MW3 is the multiplayer. Yes, it is innovative for the most part when considering the killstreaks, game modes, and small things here and there to keep that "Call of Duty multiplayer" pace going, but it's nothing new. When being developed it kept a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" idea to the max. If you wanted to be completely critical you can say it's simply Modern Warfare 2 with a fresh coat of paint on it. Fixing the small things here and there from the MW2 game, and chainging a few killstreaks doesn't make it entirely something new to embrace and delve into. All in all, it's a fair game for awhile but then it loses it's fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Call Of Duty formula is very overused these days, and it appears in several different clones of the mightily successful franchise. This is a pretty decent use of that formula, and fans of the series will enjoy this game thoroughly, even if it is very reminiscent of previous installments.
The most obvious thing to start off with is the graphics, as they are the first thing one sees in the game. All in all, they are good, but suffer from some abysmal textures and mild graphical glitches. The motion capture is extremely detailed, but facial movement is very basic.
The sound design is excellent in this game. As you fight through the streets of Paris, jets soar by, machine guns blast away and explosion rattle in your ears. Although the music is not particularly memorable at all, there are points in the game when the score complements the mass destruction around you, giving you a chill down your slouching spine.
Now, the campaign. The story of Captain Price, Soap, and Yuri is a reasonably enjoyable romp through various linear set pieces. There is, however, a terribly scripted howler thrown in to make you cry, but amounts to absolutely nothing emotionally. This spoils what would otherwise be a fairly enjoyable, if very cliched campaign, with some of the most excellent linear levels you will ever play. For example, where else can you have a zero-gravity, sub machine gun shootout in a crashing jet? The linearity may annoy some players, with almost all commands to be "kill this, run here, collect that, get to the chopper." Overall, a silly, if enjoyable, Russian-filled rollercoaster.
The attraction to many people is the multiplayer, where the Call Of Duty formula mentioned above normally shines. It is surprisingly disappointing. Though levelling up is addictive and exciting as per usual, it always seems as if people of a higher rank are at a strong advantage to a newer player, which undoubtedly can be justified by the "if I level up then I get all of the guns" system that the multiplayer is based on. The maps are usually just messy, everything-dies-in-this-bit fighting arenas, but they provide enough of an interesting set piece to be enjoyed. Killstreaks also return, in even more powerful and impossible-to-defeat forms, such as the Osprey Gunner, Predator Drone and the Mother Of All Bombs. These can make matches very frustrating, but when you score a killstreak, it is satisfying nonetheless.
Game modes are almost exactly the same as before, but Kill Confirmed, a newbie, can provide a jolly distraction for half-an-hour or so.
Spec Ops is a cooperative mode for Call Of Duty, and returns with missions and Survival, a wave-killing (if unoriginal) joy. The missions vary in length and difficulty, but only give you the incentive to play through them a couple of times. Survival is a COD-ified version of Gears of War's Horde Mode, in which players level up, buy new items and defend themselves from endless waves of enemies, which span several different classes. These Survival mission vary in difficulty and are all maps played in multiplayer, making it feel a little like a cut-corners job, but it is fun played with a friend.
Altogether, this is a good game, the highlights being the campaign and the cooperative modes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Predecessor of MW2, MW3 is a next rung on the COD ladder, giving us access to more of the life Cpt. Soap as we continue on our quest to hunt down Makarov all within an action packed storyline to match. MW3 might have its downsides within the game such as the spawning system for its multiplayer in which I can be playing be killed only to be then shot 2 seconds after spawning again and its many bugs such as outpost wall-breaching glitch, this all adds to the thrill and adventure to the game-play or so I have found it that is.
Developed by Infinity Ward, MW3 shows that IW really know what they’re doing when it comes to producing one hell of a game, just goes to show that you don’t need a huge development team to produce a game like MW3 unlike that of BO2. Which failed in comparison to MW3 as regards to feedback. We see a return to dedicated servers in MW3 whilst still providing us with the multiplayer lobbies we experienced in MW2 unlike that of BO1 which simply did multiplayer lobbies and no dedicated lobbies and BO2 which just did dedicated lobbies instead of multiplayer lobbies when will they learn to add both of them instead of 1 or the other.

With dedicated servers in place MW3 brings the party, allowing players to experience MW3 like no other game before it, things like High Jump servers and Infected Shop servers bring even more action to the player that wants the thrill and adventure of a fire-fight in mid air or the exploring of new places within the maps. Like come on who doesn’t want to reach the Eiffel tower on Resistance? Cause I certainly want to, so what if I can’t get there fully it still adds to the fun of the game.

Along with the main game of MW3 of course comes the ever increasing collection packs ranging from 1 to 4 these DLC’s offer new maps for players to dominate and master, new spec ops to blast through like the veterans they are.

A new game mode hits the scene within the MW3 collection DLC’s, named Chaos mode; it says exactly what it does on the tin. In which players can either solo or blast it out with a friend through their favourite maps against a limitless amount of spawning enemies.

Designed to test the player/player’s logical thinking, Chaos mode is the perfect mode for testing strategies/strength of the player. The amount of times I tried to get past 5 juggernauts all charging at me at once was very filling for my taste of adrenaline and thrill as I ran for my life like the coward I am.

Overall I feel MW3 even with its ups and its downs is a 7/10 from me.

Expand

A worthy successor to the Modern Warfare franchise, but not exactly trailblazing. The campaign was a nice book-end to the MW saga, and the multiplayer was serviceable. MW3's multiplayer introduced the "Specialist" system as well as the "attack" streaks and "support" streaks. These were big additions that have helped shape the CoD multiplayer. MW3 was a good CoD, it just wasn't the best.

Although Infinity Ward created some pretty fun filled Call of Duty games in the past. Modern Warfare 3 is a step down from the original modern warfare games. This one isn't as inspired or creative as the first two games however this doesn't make it a bad triple A shooter game. As even with its weaknesses Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 remains a strong video game.

Campaign: My initials thoughts for Modern Warfare 3's campaign was fun, explosive and big. And I got exactly that. When I stepped into the campaign of Modern Warfare 3 I was greeted to one of the best Call of Duty Campaign openers. I loved how fast and explosive it feltI loved how the game didn't run to far away from its Call of Duty style. I loved the story and the way it is told. There are somethings I was disappointed in with the campaign. The main thing would just be how it feels to much like its trying to be a film not a video game. However set that aside Call of Duty MW3s campaign is almost as good at Modern Warfare 1 and 2's campaign

    Campaign: 8/10

Multiplayer: Although Call of Duty is mainly known for its explosive multiplayer I felt as if 2011's Call of Duty felt too similar to MW2. TOO SIMILAR. The map layouts were very similar and even the graphics didn't look any different. The weapons were the same and the multiplayer mode just felt like it was MW2's original Multiplayer however they decided to scrap it and throw it in to MW3. However the multiplayer can be fun if you really enjoyed MW2's. It isn't anything new however its still an exceptable addition to Call of Duty MW3.

    Multiplayer: 6.8/10

Survival: Survival is the newest addition to Infinity Wards Call of Duty MW3. And it may as well be the strongest. Survival mode is something new and something unique. Adapting from Zombies treyarch formula the game made a third mode and mode that was especially fun to play. I found myself enjoying Survival mode alot. And that it was very fun with friends. This was an addition to MW3's Call of Duty mode that was probably the best. Making it Infinity Wards next go to third gamemode. I feel as if they should bring back Survival mode for their next call of duty. Its fun and feels innovative. Unfortunately the gamemode doesn't have an actual story so you just run around random maps shooting hoards of enemies. Still very fun.

    Survival: 8/10

Verdict. 2011's Call of Duty was the first weakest addition to Activisions growing Call of Duty franchise however it still came out to be a funfilled and enjoyable experience.

    Pros:
    -Good Campaign and Story Telling
    -Really Fun Survival Mode
    -Multiplayer Mode adapts from MW2

    Cons:
-Weak Multiplayer, too similar to MW2.
    -Game Breaking Glitchs

    Overall: 7.6/10

Although I had a ton of fun with MW3, the game relies too heavily on its predecessor MW2's ideas and feels more like an expansion of MW2 than a brand new game. Still overall a very fun game with solid maps and a very fun Infected mode.

Oh boy, Modern Warfare 3... I was very excited for this one. Once it was announced back in 2011, I just knew I had to Pre-Order it... But once the game had finally released, I was a bit disappointed. The game is literally the same as Modern Warfare 2, the User-Interface looks the same, many of the weapons are just taken from Modern Warfare 2, and they really destroyed the Nuke in this game.

Good ending for a fantastic trilogy. Loved the story but the game is way too short. Overall rating: 7.4.

Answer: 75 characters is between 10 words and 19 words with spaces included in the character count. If spaces are not included in the character count, then 75 characters is between 12 words and 25 words.

I bought MW3 and a damn xbox just to play with friends. I played Black Ops on PS3 and I was really into it but I can't tell if xbox graphics are just bad or if MW3 looks bad. Overall I am having fun playing multiplayer and Special Op scenarios with friends, but graphics and progression since previous games are blah.

In my opinion MW3 is the MW2 everyone wanted, I'm glad to see infinity ward fixed most the problems from the previous game but considering the way the game looks and plays it seems that the game is just an add on to MW2. Kill confrimed is a pretty cool game mode I must admit but it can be annoying as **** sometimes too. Then there's survival mode which actually suprised me and is probably the best part of the game. I'm just hoping that the MW series is finished and cod can release a new game that is unlike any of their past 5. Expand

I love the series. This is a decent game. But developers should not expect high scores if they don't push the boundaries, especially when the series has made tens of millions in profit. Nothing new here.

Admittedly I never played MWF1 or 2 due to it's Neo-Con/Zionist/Racist propaganda, but have played most of the other COD's hence I think my assessment will be balanced. My favourite COD is Blacks Ops as it had everything a shooter should have ie an excellent story, excellent multi-player and of course.....Zombies! MWF3 has a great cinematic story which is gripping, but the multi-player is a nest of adolescent children, racist immature thugs, and campers galore. But the gameplay is the real issue as it just isn't balanced, it's like Unreal Tournament but with different weapons. Everything is far too quick, yet lacks the polish and precision of games like GOW and BF. Spec ops is interesting for a while, but again gets boring quickly. Overall I think COD should stop the yearly releases to improve and redesign the formula, however they simply games for profit not entertainment. Or should I say, they entertain the simple to make money. Either way, stick with Black Ops! Expand

I was mad at first because a lot of reviews were written by people paid by the bf3 staff, a game that is unpolished and inferior by comparison. HOWEVER... Several issues make this game inferior to past call of duty offerings:

    1) Claustraphobia/Poor Maps - the maps are all claustrophobic, have few if any interesting cover/sniper points, rarely anything you can climb on etc. It's as if they were designed in 15 minutes with no regard for anything. To make matters worse, spray cannon weapons can be accurate with the new anti-kick weapon specialization, almost eliminating the use of precision high damage weapons like sniper rifles. Anything resembling a snipers nest is easily accessible from 3 different directions guaranteeing you will get snuck up on and killed after 1 or 2 kills. 2) Widespread hacking - not IW's fault but a lot of people are using wall hacks that tell where enemies are behind walls. These are not blatant hacks, but ones that make people look like they are playing legitimately until you watch their kill cam and see them tracking people perfectly through walls. 3) Poor netcode - perhaps not as bad or Black ops (or about as bad) this game uses the noob friendly netcode where you will often find yourself getting killed AFTER you run behind cover, or killed BEFORE the person who is shooting you even comes around the corner on your screen. Generally speaking, just a noobified version of call of duty.

I'm not into multiplayer gaming these days, so when I buy a shooter I expect a single player game on the quality bar of something Irrational Games might put out. And while I did enjoy the first and second instalment of CoD on PC, I have become pretty jaded at this point with the the Modern Warfare SP campaigns, which is really nothing more than the same game with a different paint job.I'm not into multiplayer gaming these days, so when I buy a shooter I expect a single player game on the quality bar of something Irrational Games might put out. Spec-Ops mode is fun for what it is, but other than that I cant in good conscience inflate my score any higher than a yellow mark. So sorry to Glen Schofield, I hear your appeal on twitter and I think it sucks that BF fans are being a-holes with the scores because I think that game suffers from the same lack of innovation and quality in the single player department too... But as far as this MW3 is concerned, imo its a mediocre game simply due to the fact I am so jaded on this franchise now. It just doesn't interest me any more... Doesn't mean any dev who worked on this title shouldn't be proud of their work, as usual their is a good level of polish, but even the most addictive innovative game can get boring after a while, especially if its milked so heavily. The tipping point was at MW2 I think, so we've already started on the gradual decline in gamer support for this IP. Anyone in the industry or who has been gaming since the Atari 2600 has seen this happen many times before. Its a slow undignified death. Expand

this is the worst modern warfare in the series, mostly due to the multiplayer maps. the gunplay is really really smooth, bring back the older maps and ill be interested, until then you can keep your rubbish arena style maps with a stupidly large amount of spawnkilling

I'm basing this score on buying this game for around twenty dollars and the percieved value of enjoyment I got out of this. So this score is also reflected mainly on the single player experience. Ahem....That was incredibly short even for a Modern Warfare game. The final game to what turned out to be an over-the-top storyline trilogy was over before it even began. It didn't even take me four hours. I still run around like a chicken with my head cut off getting barked at for going the wrong way, or taking my time taking out a tank, or whatever,...and its still a fun first person shooter. Lots of increadible destruction graphics, struggling to get out of debris or from falling from dizzying heights. Again, the story line is over the top and doesn't make much sense or have any realism to it, but it is interesting as any Darkhorse comic out there that ask us to suspend disbelief. Fun game and worth it for twenty dollars, no more, but still could have fleshed out the storyline and should have made it a bit longer than 3 and a half hours. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
