Call of Duty IS on the way out but I cant say I think its lost its touch just yet.t. Expand

And speaking of multiplayer, why is everyone complaining about mw3 being similar mw2? Mw2 was great. So let me give you an unbiased review. So far, I am thoroughly enjoying this game. The campaign is visually-stimulating, grand in scale, and highly immersive. Spec Ops, accounting for the new addition of Survival mode, is probably worth close to $60 to most FPS fans in and of itself. Multiplayer sticks with the tried and true (and extremely fun) formula, but there are enough changes and improvements to keep it fresh for another year. Yes, I have been a fan of CoD since CoD4, and there is nothing wrong with that. Yes, I would probably pay $60/year for new maps, perks, killstreaks, weapons, etc., and there is nothing wrong with that either. That doesn't mean I can't be fair and objective in my analysis of the game, a tactic that seems to be lost on some of the previous simple-minded reviewers. But, there are other changes and additions and improvements to this game that make it well worth the money. This game is very enjoyable if you get over yourself, mature past the emotional age of 16, and realize that Activision quite obviously has a very successful formula that they're not willing to stray TOO far away from. If you're that shallow that you expect a COMPLETELY different game with every installment (as many other less successful franchises are forced to create), maybe you should try a different title. It's not difficult. BF3 fanboys can go sit on a railroad spike. Your mere presence here is all the indication the world needs that the Battlefield franchise is nowhere near where it wants to be or where CoD is and has been for 4-5 years. As made evident from their reviews, If I were to total up the IQ of all the reviewers that have left a score of '0' on here, I would come up with a number not much greater than the rating they gave the game. At this point, COD is not going to change. If you thought you were going to boot up the disc and your character was going to be a small furry wolf shooting skittles and skipping on clouds, you're an idiot. The ground rules for COD are set a this point. You're going to kill people. You're going to have perks. You're going to have killstreaks. You're going to play game modes designed to kill people, to hold flags, to capture flags, or to blow stuff up. Sure there will be little wrinkles in each release, but at this point COD is less like a video game and more like a sport-- like football or basketball. The variety comes not in the changes to the rules, but in changes in the people you play against. Activision will not, and should not, dramatically reinvent this game every year. So IMO, the best you can do as a legitimate critic is to rate the game based on how the game plays, based on map design, and based on overall execution. Half these "zero" reviewers didn't even need to buy the game to complain about the things they're whining about, so they're not doing anyone a service with the reviews. If you don't like COD, just don't buy the game ever again and shut up.

So after all that, I'll say that the game appears to be an improvement over Modern Warfare 2. Gone are many of the player abuses from that game-- the constant grenade launching, commando knifing, etc. Only time will tell if new abuses will arise and how responsive Infinity Ward will be to fixing them. I like the addition of weapon proficiencies, where they have moved some of the weapon specific perks from previous installments. It's too early to tell what the full impact of the new killstreak system will be to gameplay, but the game does seem more frantic because so many killstreaks are active. That could hurt the quality of play in the long term. But the variety of having assault, support, and specialist killstreaks will also keep the game fresh so it's a balance. None of the new game types (kill confirmed, etc.) will supplant favorites like TDM or Domination but they do provide some interesting variety. The maps in this game are small, making this one of the fastest paced COD games, but it will take in the game to give a fair review of the map design. But for right now, I'd say this game is an 8 of 10.

I had fun with it, multiplayer is there and there are differences. Map design for MP though is very restrictive. Actually that is what turned me off of it more than anything else. No large maps like Afghan or Wasteland from MW2. If you're a fan of the series you've already bought it, but for newcomers there is enough there to warrant a purchase between SP, MP, and CO-Op modes.

After a week of soaking up the game in it's entirety, I find it very hard to give a review score for a game that is split into 2 very different parts.

    Part 1 Campaign.

For me, this was extremely good. I had zero disc graphics lag and the game ran very smooth, reminded me of a stripped back version of MW2 which most COD4 fans would adore. The waves of opposition came at a good rate, with the odd cheeky guy waiting to pounce to catch you off guard, to help it look less linear. The target hits was somewhat off, but another burst of fire made me forget that, unlike BF3.

The ending was nicely dramatised and left me feeling like I had achieved 'THE END' which gave me hell at the point where I switched elevator's in a sweet little jump. I found the roomful of guys extremely hard to beat until I realised the tactic was to hold back in the lift foyer. Nice all-round game I thought.

    Part 2 MultiPlayer.

Started off quite well, I played it for approx 1 hour before the servers were closed on Wednesday 2nd Nov for a while. I jumped back onto it on saturday 5th Nov for a good old gaming session, which once again seemed really great, plus I love the set-up of 99% of the new maps.

It all started to go slightly sour for me online at approx 7pm when I had difficulty killing people who weren't even shooting back, then would turn around and 1 or 2 shot me. I was wondering why the transformation had occured and put it down to my quite impressive connection of 100mb, but it simply kept happening even as far as the 8th Nov.

It seems there is the usual graphical 'hold-back' whereby anyone on a great connection can't see the opposition as fast as they should be able to, to 'even' the broadband speeds up. OH how wrong they have got this side of the game. Same as BlackOps.

When are the people in charge of latency going to realise that those with higher spec broadband, have paid for this to improve their gameplay, not to be used as a server, not to be killed by a guy who I am shooting who is currently facing the other way till he see's my bullets pass through him, turns round and 1 shot kills me stone dead. This is classed as gameplay interference and should be cut dead from the activision servers RIGHT NOW. You are targeting high end broadband or uniquely good killers, in favour of 3mb broadband or noob users, which I cannot stress enough, is ruining the fundamentals of the game for these, the most dedicated of your users.

The game has outsold BOPS and based on the campaign I know it is better, same MW2, but the online is where most players will travel and even though the campaign deserves a 9 the online deserves a 5.

Sort out the online and I will give you a 10 next time - but don't cheat the system, cut the bull and stop lagging out the high-end user. He is the guy with the money BTW. You are using an archaic system on this side of the fence which does not work in the UK half as well as you may have planned. In short - SORT YOUR MESS OUT!

Consoles are limited because the hardware can not be upgraded, like a PC. So how can a developer really improve the software if they are limited on hardware limitations? What I can appreciate is the smooth frame rate that is achievable in this game. I found Battlefield 3 to be a little choppy (on the consoles) since it could only reach 30 frames per second however I do like the game play in Battlefield. Ask yourself, did you enjoy the other Call of Duty releases? If so, then this is an easy pick for you. I only wish they could of added a function to match players online to certain age groups. That way I don't have to hear the nasty obscenities being thrown at me from a 10 year old that just learned his first cuss word. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, so I have played quite a bit of this game so far and I will admit that it is more of the same, but to the point where you don't really care anymore. The new improvements are really good (Call of Duty Elite is great) and the new "Pointstreaks" give everyone a chance and they are all really well balanced. The campaign side was pretty bland, kind of like Battlefield 3 but we all know that multiplayer is where it's at for these games, and MW3 won't disappoint. If you were never really a Call of Duty fan, this game won't change your mind. If you love Call of Duty, then you will love this game. To be honest, I am quite shocked the user score for this game is so low, but I can't judge how people feel about a game. This game is worth the money. I know there is a battle between MW3 and Battlefield 3 and being a fan of both games, I would have to choose Battlefield 3 over MW3 by a slim margin because Battlefield 3 feels like it's a complete and total overhaul that is crafted very nicely. MW3 gets an 8/10, Battlefield 3 gets a 9/10. They are both amazing games. Period. Expand

While it's definetely no revolution and is pretty much the same game as MW2, 3 distinguishes itself by rising above the beligirent nonsense that was started with Black Ops my least favorite Call of Duty. Modern Warfare 3 is a triumph in this matter, as it smartly chooses to go back to MW2's multiplayer system, one that feels still fun and enjoyable. What however, is the greatest part of this game? It's just pure fun. Whether your playing the great new survival mode that's clocking in my time or the multiplayer, which is the absolute best its ever been, there's so much to keep you interested in Modern Warfare 3 it would be blasphemy to say different. The multiplayer, the crowning achievement of MW3 is exactly what it set out to be, tweaked awesomeness, changing how unlocking guns work with new "gun ranks", and new playlists like "Kill Confirmed" help keep variety flowing in the game's veins. The single player campaign is actually quite good, while very short, the game still offers up the same hollywood style set pieces and epicness the series has been known for, and offers an ending that wraps up almost everything. Spec Ops however is my favorite thing about MW3. The new survival mode is amazing fun and addictive. The only huge problems are the lack of new graphical content which is enraging many players and should. The game is still running on the CoD4 engine, one that has met its age, and shows it. The only other problems I have are with the story, and I won't spoil any of those, so in the end, Modern Warfare 3 is no revolution, but its a damn fun game, and I don't think I need to say why. 8/10

However, I did not buy this game. I bought battlefield 3, and I borrowed this from a friend. The first thing I did was play the campaign, as I always do. Being a veteran of past call of dutys, I fell right into it and had a great time, the graphics haven't changed much in terms of cell shading and textures, but there is much more scale and the amount of onscreen action almost rivaled killzone 3, and it runs at a nice framerate like all cods and the gunplay is still good. The campaign is simply non-stop adrenaline, and the devs did a nice job of finishing the story. The spec ops missions are a blast. Play them with a friend is the best way to go and the survival mode is simply brilliant. Giving money to your alley, calling in AI allies, and dropping airstrikes, was, in my opinion, a better experience than nazi zombies. In all, it doesn't make that many advances for the genre, but I believe that it is a worthy sequel and that infinity ward and sledgehammer games have a bright future ahead of them. I don't know about the multiplayer, as my live membership is gone and I play on psn, but I would stick to battlefield or killzone or whatever you favor for your online warfare. Expand

Not many games give you exciting cinematic experiences like COD, so each game feels refreshing. Graphically the game looks really good also. Everything looks clean and the amount of action that is going on around you is amazing. Plus it all runs at 60fps as well. Multiplayer is also better then ever. Nothing major has been added but that doesn't stop the game from being addictive. It has that 'just one more go' vibe to it which means once you start playing it's hard to put down. They should have the objective scores on the score board not just kills and deaths. In some games modes they really mean nothing and therefore are a pointless stat to have. The hate on for this game is basically because it has become popular and when things become popular people have to hate on them. If you enjoyed the other CoD MW games you'll enjoy this one. Nothing ground breaking but still lots of fun. Expand

I've played every COD that has been released, and I can see where people feel this is more MW2.5 than MW3. There are some changes that I really do like, and I feel deserve praise. I like the fact that your weapons level up separately from you character, so you don't have to tie up a perk slot to have multiple attachments. I find surpressors a MUST in COD...and the fact that I can add range to my surpressed UMP45 is a HUGE perk in my mind. The addition of the "Specialist" and "Support" strike packages is good for a change of pace...and I do find myself tinkering with them depending on my gameplay. Overall this game is very fun to play, and that goes a long way in my review, but this game is nowhere near perfect...8.0. Expand

MW3 seems to be the best game for a FPS this season. BF3 seems to be weeping on that fact their Multiplayer lags and runs at 30 fps.... 60 for the WIN!

MW3 core game modes and play are great, I feel they did play it a bit safe and stuck with what works which makes this game solid and fun to play. Why stray away from a formula that works and produces? And the new Spec Ops is refreshing to play.

All these negative reviews must be from BF3 fanboys or something. I find it suspect that EVERYONE went out and got the game at midnight, or early on 11/8 and despises it because it's the same as the other games.

Um.. what? Newsflash. ALL of these Modern Warfare games have been the same. If you played MW2, which was basically the same as MW1.. why would you expect innovation at this point?

And yet, you still ran out and bought the game. Congrats. You just told IW and Activision that you'll buy the game regardless of what's inside the case. I'm sure you'll be picking up MW4 at launch as well, just to complain about it some more.

I don't get it. Anyway.. good game. Nothing innovative, sure. But it's enjoyable. Really, at this point, they really are just glorified map packs, but I don't mind. I play each game pretty religiously until the next one is out. I like the feel of the guns, and the new multiplayer modes are fun. The only complaint I can think of is that the maps are maybe too small and cramped.

For instance, Dynasty Warriors, which has barely changed at all since it first arrived on the PS2, holds around an 8-9 user review score. This same score is held by the Harvest Moon/Rune Factory/Innocent Life games, all eight billion versions of them. It's absolutely ludicrous the amount of force-fed hate that spews out of some of these "reviews," honestly. MW3 has not made huge advances over the original formula, and why should it? It would be fiscally irresponsible for Activision to let such a money-maker change the formula, anyway. CoD smashes sales records every year, and that speaks so much louder than 645 generic, **** reviews. It's not reinventing the wheel, because the wheel works just fine the way it is. Expand

    Singleplayer:

If your like me and play through the single player probably a few times while owning it then the cinematic experience is very enjoyable as it is like playing through an interactive movie. Not only is is entertaining but MW3 does things in their singleplayer not done in any previous COD game or other shooter that I have played before (fight in dust storm, a few zero g moments in airplane). Multiplayer:

I haven't played the multiplayer a ton yet but from everything I'm seeing it seems to be MW2 with different maps slightly different perks and some other modifications. Simply if you enjoy the COD multiplayer style (fast paced, smaller maps), then you'll love it.

    MW3 vs. Battlefield:

I completely disagree with reviewers that say straight up whether or not MW3 is better or worse than Battlefield. In my opinion, it depends what kind of shooter you prefer. First, do you prefer the realism factor? if so add a point for Battlefield. Next, if you enjoy using vehicles, large maps, and huge teams then add a point for battlefield. However, if you enjoy fast paced shooting where you don't have to crawl around and camp for large portions of the session then MW3 is your game.

    Bottom Line:

But overall there wasn't a ton of new things, but to me that is expected since like I said earlier they release a game every year. What does piss me off is all of the obvious Battlefield fanboys that jump all over MW3 without realizing that there was no way in hell that they were ever going to like a fast paced shooter with smaller maps and small teams to begin with. Obviously.

There are 16 maps from the go , there's a mix of big and small maps, I just wish infinity ward would introduce destructive environments that Dice use in Battlefield 3 that can bring buildings down on the snipers and campers, I feel this is what MW3 lacks but by no mean's does it ruin the game or make it feel like an expansion. If you love the MW franchise then this is for you, it still looks the same as the rest but plays well. Battlefield 3 seems fresh but lacks game modes. I like both but both are different. Its like the battle of domination between FIFA and PRO , infinity ward seem happy with the if it ain't broke don't fix it motto, while EA and dice aren't afraid to improve and try new things. Any way both games are good , just don't knock it until you try it. Expand

So as far as multiplayer goes, its superb! Now the reason for the 8? I gave it an 8 because it lacks in single player. If you want a great single player game... best to wait for Saints Row 3 or Skyrim, something that is worth your money. The campaign in here has been shot to 6 hours of gameplay (really???)
I hope all developers take careful consideration with the single player.... focus on this like UC3 did! that game is amazing, hours have been put into it and im still playing the single player.
Bar none best multiplayer for FPS fans, worth it if you are into that kind of game!

MW3 is fun and has some great moments. The new multiplayer modes are definitely great, and the spec ops is great for fun with friends. The user score of MW3 is not low because it is horrible, but most likely because Battlefield 3 fanboys simply couldn't accept that MW3 is a good game.

Ok, Been a COD Player since day 1, and MoH when IW made that for EA before COD. First off, this game is GOOD, not great, but good, its NOT just like MW2....its more MW (CoD4) on steroids, which in my eyes is not a bad thing at all, this is how i remember CoD being played, MW2 just didn't feel like MW1, this does!, some say that's a bad thing as its a 4 year old game, but its the 4 year oldOk, Been a COD Player since day 1, and MoH when IW made that for EA before COD. Yes i agree that the game lacks innovation, originality, limitations due to the engine and such, but that's not why you buy CoD, well its not for me, i buy CoD for balls to the wall, full speed, ass ripping! you know what your going to get when you buy a CoD game, its a winning formula that yes needs an update but its still as good as anything out there ( and i`m a BF3 player, been a BF man since day 1 also ).

Graphically this game is pretty good for consoles, its not the best but its not the worst neither, its easily comparable to Black Ops, and looks better than MW2 as that was dull and washed out, Audio is top notch booming out of a surround sound system, there simply is no game out there with the sound effects of the MW games ( yes BF3 gun sounds are on a par ), MW3 plays great if your not a sit in the corner guy wanting to camp it out all night, a lot of people do seem to be upset that there is usually multiple ways into a room, well personally i think that's great as it stops the retard tool player from sitting in one corner with his ADS permanently at the door. The maps seem to be a big debate so far and when i played it for the first few hours my thoughts was and still are that "these don't feel like Infinty Ward maps", they don't, they have that something different, and i like it, its not the usual "here is a building with 8 corridors and a big room on one side", to me Sledgehammer put there mark on CoD subtly, but enough for me to say good job guys. Weapons handle well and make sense as in, if you run around the corner and from 3 feet away i open fire with my M4 and you open fire with your Skorpion... Skorpion is a winner as he can raise his gun faster and pile more lead into me, just a simple fact, the only thing i hate about the weapons is this stupid dumb QUICK SCOPING, just ruins the games for me, if i get in a game and there is more than QS`er, i`ll leave, you need to deal with that SH Games.

Overall i think this is a good package, is it more of the same? sure it is, few tweaks here and there, but at its core its still a CoD game...but that's why you buy it right? CoD is more like a Hollywood blockbuster, over the top, all action, adrenaline pumping shooter. It does have issue`s with its Elite service which there shouldn't be seeing as the last 2 CoD`s have sold 120 million copies between them, there is no excuse not to be ready there and that is very very poor from the other team ( name escapes me) thats dealing with that side of things ( Get off the demonware server, it sucked on CoD4 hence why you changed ).

for me this is the best CoD Multi-Player yet, and i think peoples main problems here is......THIS IS WHAT MW2 SHOULD HAVE BEEN.... MW2 was a bit of a let down for me, as it just didn't feel like the first MW....and as Ive said before, this one does, it feels a lot like MW1 and for me that puts this title well above the 2nd in the MW2 series.

I`m 35 and come from the days of where an average game scored 5-6 out of 10, where 8 was a rating that suggested you bought this game and that's what I`m putting on this game, 8/10 good game but not great, lacks innovation and is starting to become a little dated, but typical CoD, fans should be enjoying this right now, for what it is, and that's a CoD game

My advice to Activision... we know there is gonna be a BO2 next year but don't put out another MW game until the next gen comes around, support MW3 and BO2 with DlC until ps4 and the new xbox land.

The multiplayer is why anyone buys this game however, and is also the reason the game shines. Unlike BF3, CoD is frenetic, fast paced, and visceral. You don't have to run miles to get shot out of nowhere like in BF3. While I like MW3, I am disappointed that the story/campaign isn't like the old CoD games...the ones for PC. Those games had a great story, a difficult campaign, and excellent multiplayer. These days it seems like the game developers have to water everything down so the "casual" gamer can feel good about themselves.
    Pros: Multiplayer, multiplayer, multiplayer.
Cons: Poor story, Spec Ops isn't as good as MW2.

Huge set pieces is what the campaign was made for and it does one hell of a job at it. Spec ops is a blast as usual and is great for partnering up with a buddy and the missions are varied and engaging. But we all know that the multiplayer is what we all bought MW3 for. Yes they re skinned MW and made it their own but the gunplay is not as "tight" as other Call of Duty games. With bullets not registering and assault rifles cant even touch a enemy at far range this game became a mundane shooter. Lag issues and lackluster map design bogs this game's greatness. This can be fixed however with map packs and title updates. But what really drags it down is the maps. These maps are forgettable at best. At least in the other Call of Duty games you remember the maps. Highrise, Vacant, Crash, Overgrown and many other shined in the past titles. Instead we get these cramped, claustrophobic maps that really don't lend to how the games should flow. Now all people do is run which is not a bad tactic but most combat involves running at each other head on till someone gets the lucky bullet. The maps are so lackluster and cramped that I feel like Im a mouse trapped in a maze designed by a 5 year old with the cheese at the end being 10th prestige which doesn't seem to be the best reward in this "maze".
In closing Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward I applaud you for rising from the ashes of what happened at Infinity Ward. But a little more polish and this game would be great. But its not too late, you have time to fix this via DLC and title updates. This games fate is uncertain but you guys can fix it if you choose. Its a great game you just have to scrape some of the dirt off. This is DTA_CoolishHero signing out. My first game review hope you guys like it.

The story gets told (and unlike most it seems, I followed it) and unlike the cliche riddled, CoD ripoff of a campaign in BF3 (get real BF fans, something bad happens before the game, you get interrogated/forced to explain it, and just before the end you get out of the interrogation and help 'save the world'? Black Ops people, did that already. And what the hell is with all the 'I'm on a machine gun! OH NO A ROCKET CRAP I BLEW UP AND NOW I'M DAZED ON THE GROUND!" moments? How many times did that happen? And those stupid quicktime events that appear no where else in the game? At least CoD's consistent between single and multiplayer) and told well. Now, having not played the BF3 mutliplayer (and considering this crowd spamming low scored for competing games, I probably won't) I can't speak out against it, but from what I have heard the multiplayer is the only thing BF3 does right. So, kudos there. MW3? That multiplayer is still fastpaced and hectic. Which game would I buy and play? MW3, handsdown. Which game would I play? Both. Unlike the morons spamming 0 scores for games they're too immature to understand have a right to exist, I won't write-off a game just because it's competition to a game I like. I heard about the incredibly unbalanced user score that MW3 has received on Metacritic from IGN, and decided to create a Metacritic account just to give an unbiased and objective review and score. And to help even out this Very low score for an obviously above average game, I mean sure MW3 is not perfect but 3.1 out of ten is bull***t. First off I would like to state that I am not a COD Fan Boy and not a little kid, I'm a hardcore gamer that has been playing games since the early nineties. I play all manner of games on PC and PS3 and have also bought MW3's main competitor BF3. I have played about 30 hours on BF3's Multiplayer and have a 3.30 Kill/Death Ratio so am no noob when it comes to FPS. Even so I was disappointed with the overall products of both Battlefied 3 (which got boring faster than expected) and MW3. In the end I scored MW3 8 out of 10. It is very similar to MW2 but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Singleplayer was OK, similar to the last two Modern Warfare's (overall uneventfull and boring with only some good bits) Spec Ops Missions are fun and exciting, especially if you have a friend to play them with and Spec Ops New Survival Mode is great addictive fun and a good addition to the series, I would say, and this is just my opinion that this is better than Zombies (playing with a mic is essential). Than you have Multiplayer which love it or hate it is pretty much the same as MW2 but with Strike Pakages, different killstreaks and different variations on old perks, some new guns and some new maps and game modes. Noob tubing, Nuke Killstreak and One Man Army Perk are gone but Quikscoping and Drop Shoting are still the order of the day. Also Spawn Deaths, Hit Detaction and Lag Issues can become a bit annoying. But with a half Decent Connection, a bit of skill and a touch of class you should be able to overcome these shotcomings to have one of the sweetest FPS Online Gaming experiences you can have at this time. I won't lie somtimes the multiplayer can have you screaming at the TV about the injustice of the last 5 Cheap deaths that made no sense whatsoever. But with a bit of patience even without the Elite Functions you get to know the layout of the maps, the spawn points, choke points, best class layouts for specific situations and maps. You will receive better weapons and figure out which strike package work best for you, and then your experience will start getting better. And to everyone saying COD is unbalanced that's BS, because there is a strategy and counter for everything your adversaries can throw at you. So after everything is said and done what it really comes down to is skill (and who has more of it). Overall, taken all the features packed into this one game and the weeks and possibly months of enjoyment that can be had, it's impossible for me to see how this game can receive a score below an 8 let alone a 5. If your a fan of FPS or games in general this a great addition to your game collection. Definately not MW2 DLC, and for only $50 to $100 are you that poor/cheap to complain about purchasing a great game and depriving yourself of fun just because a bunch of pathetic PC BF3 Fanboy Sheep/Followers decided to flood this site with negative reviews. These are two very true comments and because they are all that is perceived they tend to overshadow the changes that have been made. Single Player: In true "Michael Bay" form, the campaign is a strand of epic set pieces designed to make your eyes and ears say "What the !@#$." This is getting harder to do since we've been exposed to the same style of presentation for at least two Modern Warfare's before this one. What really resonated with me is that this game ties all the events of previous two games into a coherent and surprisingly good story. The flashbacks and explanation of events happening outside of the players awareness in previous titles was awesome and it made me want to play the other two titles again.

Spec Ops: The tried and true co-op formula is exactly the same as it was in Modern Warfare 2 except for one major detail which is the addition of Survival. Survival is just plain awesome. I love that the waves of enemies are infinite. I love that we can level up and use all the things that make traditional multi-player awesome like perks, attachments, kill streaks, etc. Survival is also a useful learning tool for players to get used to weapons and other errata of the game without the pressure of performing well against the online masses where stats are tracked and permanent. These two aspects dictate the entire feel and pace of the multi-player games and it's unfortunate because it renders so much in the game useless. Sniper rifles are really just there for show for instance. Multi-player: It's always hard to judge this segment because frankly it takes a long time to figure out the tools and the maps in order to use them efficiently. However, there's two things that I've notice that in my opinion act as the stem for virtually all the problems in the multi-player. First, the maps are significantly smaller than other iterations in the series. I can't tell you how many times I was surprised at how close Domination flags were to each other or how quickly an enemy was already bearing down on me at the beginning of a round. Secondly, even on the larger maps the amount of collusive objects create short lines of sight and make the maps feel and act small. These factors create maps that are chaotic and relentless. Spawn killing is much easier, tactics are less viable, and a lot of the tools and perks are useless because they can't be reliably used in an environment where your lifespan is mere seconds upon spawning. The good things that have changed are aspects that a lot of players probably won't pick up on. A good example is how corners are handled. Many of the corners aren't flat walls with a definitive edge but rather a stack of objects that create an uneven edge. This means players have to gauge their line of sight based on their height in relation to the object and also where the enemy may be coming from. It gives the person approaching the corner a small field of vision on someone who may be sitting around that corner thus making camping a little bit harder. Some corners are completely see-through like glass windows or brush. These provide a murky field of vision on a corner but still leave you vulnerable to damage. These create great risk vs. reward scenarios that the players have to consider each time they approach a corner and I love them.

Summary: I miss Modern Warfare 1. That's it, what else can I say really? This game is an obvious and predictable evolution of the first Modern Warfare and I feel really underwhelmed playing it. In fact, I must have sat at the menu for 30 minutes wondering why I couldn't convince myself to play multi-player. Instead, I ended up playing Spec Ops all night and I loved it. I guess in contrast to all this I just miss the simplicity and near perfect balance of Modern Warfare 1. Where maps were diverse and sniper rifles were useful. Where gun-play was king and air traffic didn't completely drown out any other sound in the game. And I know this is in high contrast to popular map design but I really miss choke points. Modern Warfare 3 is a great game with liquid smooth game-play and a deep and interesting progression system but in the end, it still isn't enough to make me sell Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

A lot of people have thought this is just some piece of crap game that doesn't deserve to looked at bought and should only be made fun of. To those who think this is true you are all wrong. Is this a sequel, yes, but is it a crappy game, no. While people complain about no innovation I'm sure that if there was a big change people would be mad. But let's get down to the real business, is this game even worth $60 and many hours of your time, that's your choice, for now i will tell you mine. This game isn't worth $60, maybe $50, probably $40 but not $60. Even not being worth $60, it is a very well made game with good but short campaign, great co-op missions, the awesome zombies like survival, and the famous (whether it be god or bad) multi-player. In my book there are very few games that offer a truly good overall package, MW3 does this but if your only buying for one mode then save your money and buy an older call of duty that has what you are looking for. I hope this can help somebody who is a long time fan who doesn't want to feel cheated because he spent $60 on a game he already played.

Highly polished version of MW2. But so what?! MW2 was superior to Black Ops in the game play department, so MW3 (2.5) is also better than Blops.
I'm not keen on the maps, but DLC could remedy that.
I also don't like the shotguns being so weak. With the nerfing of shotties, they should have stayed as secondaries. The addition of Kill Confirmed is the best thing they did. It's fast and

A game with an exciting campaign mode and new and inventive on-line game play. MW3 keeps you on the edge of your seat during campaign mode with its breathtaking action sequences and sharp shooting. While the on-line mode is more challenging and intense than its predecessor, it tends to lag from time to time which makes things slightly more difficult. All round a good game with no major flaws.

The campaign (even though a bit short) was very good, it follows on perfectly from previous stories and allows the player to get very involved with the plot itself. The only criticism I would have is the length as it only takes an average of 5 hours to complete, at least another 3 hours would of been welcomed or DLC for further missions. The online play again is very good, sticking to the same format the maps are fairly small but the introduction of the new strike packages are welcomed as if you are not very good you can still rack up kills and proceed to get kill streaks.

The only criticisms I have as stated before was the length fo the campaign, other then that this is a brilliant game and you get what you expect from the Call of Duty series.

I honestly don't know why this game is scoring so low with other user reviews. This game is a sequel, as such it's going to build upon what the games before it had already laid down. It's not going to be a distinctly different game, and it shouldn't. If it was going to have completely different core mechanics and gameplay, then it wouldn't be a Call of Duty, it would be a new IP. On multiplayer, the tweaks such as Strike Packages, new perks & guns, weapon leveling, and new modes (Team Defender/Kill Confirmed) all do good to expand on the prior entries in the series for an overall good multiplayer. The campaign is much the same as the rest in the series, and anyone who thinks the campaigns in any Battlefield/Call of Duty game are a focus point doesn't really get why the game was made in the first place. It's a compliment to the game, but wouldn't hold on its own without multiplayer. Survival in Spec Ops is a great idea, but its biggest downfall is not allowing 4 players like the Zombies modes on the other Call of Duty's. These modes are best when a group of people get to coordinate to play....not just two people. Lastly, Elite seems like a good idea, but as of this writing, been plagued by server issues so it's hard to say how or what that will bring to the series. Overall, a fairly good entry in the series. Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
