Pure utter trash water, no innovation what so ever, guns don't work half the time, maps are too cramped and small, after playing one mp map, you've played them all. Too much lag for a game that sells this many copies. Stop spray painting **** thinking we won't know it's **** Long live COD4

Servers are slow but as expected, campaign not very long but still interesting, survival mode and spec. ops live up to the great hype they got. excellent, i believe the survival mode is better than zombies. online play will return to the top once the not so serious gamers leave to go and play a new game. let the game settle before you are so quick to judge.

Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity? No, but seriously why this game sells great every year is a mystery to me. I don't want to support anything to do with this game anymore, and at this point, i'm pretty ashamed to be in in the same category as this yearly cash-in. It honestly reminds me of something like a cheap 80s remake or even the likes of Twilight.

Hi, this is my review of Modern warfare 3

First off I installed the game onto my Xbox Hard Drive (this took about 15 mins) after that i loaded the game, before i got to the menu i was greeted with a nice clip , but im not gonna spoil what that is, when the menu is loaded up it is practically the same as mw2 except it is abit more dull and dark , and then i got the typical "there is some offensive and disturbing content, would you like to disable it" , after browsing the menus i went on over to multi-player.

I found a game in kill confirmed, I loaded into the game (i was on a snow map but i cant remember what it was called) and im not gonna lie, my first impressions was "this looks ALOT like black ops" and the reason for this is how everything seems closer to you that they did in cod4 and mw2, soo i was a little bit worried at first, but then the worries soon went away when i got my first few kills and realised that the guns were balanced, there was reasonable recoil and you dont have magic bullets that bend round corners , one of the other things that i noticed strait away was that the knife, it HAS been fixed and this if for the better , it feels and sounds ALOT like the cod4 knife.

after that game i was surprised at how well done and balanced the game is , the next map i played on was one called bakarra , this looks like a blackhawk down inspired map (as there is a black hawk in the middle of the map) , in that game i then realised that people who usually rely on grenades and explosives were always using flashbangs and stun grenades (i guess this is where blast shield pro comes in handy) , now back to what i was saying earlier , the guns have a reasonable amount of recoil , so this is where the proficiency "kick" really comes in handy , i unlocked it and used it straight away , and this helped me pick off enemies from longer distances faster, in this game i used my "I.M.S" kill streak , i deployed it in a building while i was looking out the window, it got 3 kills within seconds, some people might think this is over powered but just 1 emp grenade or half a clip of ammo will take this out.

i did quite a few games and unlocked quite a few things for my rifles, i got to about level 23 and realized that the levels wasnt much of a grind to get through as there are loads of challenges, one of the things i really like about the new online feel is that is, if you start shooting some guy in the back then 90% of the time he will die and not turn around and shoot you in the face.

after that i went over to the single player, (dont worry i wont be giving away any story spoilers) , I started playing it and it basically makes you aware of what happens in the previous modern warfare games, after playing for a bit i got to a level called "black tuesday" this is where i realised how much this story feels like cod4 , all of these "hollywood scripted moments" really fall into place in the missions and they actually seem believable, i have done quite a bit of the story so far , and at this moment in time the story seems longer that any other call of duty to date. i havent come across to playing spec ops yet, but i will soon.

but one of the downsides i would say about the multiplayer (to me) is that the maps dont feel like modern warfare 2 or cod4's maps they feel like black ops maps for the way you can move about them, but a good thing that they added was more vertical gameplay in the maps.

MW3 might not be a complete overhaul or innovation, but Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have tweaked and nigh-on perfected the genre for the conclusion of their epic Modern Warfare story arc.

The level of detail and draw distance that the engine is now capable of is a great accomplishment of the development team, squeezing everything they can out of the current engine whilst still ensuring the game runs along at 60fps - a rare achievement of late with publishers and developers trading performance for graphical nirvana. The second campaign mission alone is a perfect example of the scope now available.

The story, whilst not original, still contains the trademark COD set pieces and action sequences, and bombs along at a consistent rate of knots.

The MP aspect has seen a few enhancements, with the perks and scoring systems tweaked to offer newcomers and lesser players an opportunity to shine, whilst still rewarding the hardcore elite for their accomplishments. Again this is not a radical overhaul but a pure refinement and the MW3 MP now feels extremely polished the culmination of the games' imprint on online FPS gaming over the last decade.

To summarise, it's maybe not as original as its prequels or as flamboyant as its competitors but MW3 is a well crafted, fast paced and well put together adrenaline ride that does exactly what you expect it to do well. The MP is refined and, while not massively different to previous versions, takes the greatest online FPS MP experience and makes it better. Great for old and new comers alike, try it - you just might like it.

I have played the greatest Game of all time and I can assure you that MW3 is no Street Sweeper. Mw3 has none of the variety and originality that Street Sweeper has. The Graphics are about the same but have none of the genius and beauty that Street Sweeper has in droves. And while MW3 has Streets it sadly has no Sweeping mode. Fail, Epic Fail.

I didn't buy the game at the midnight launch but I got it the day after. The first match I joined I instantly thought omg I am playing MW2 again. But now it looked like the game was more noobified. The kill streaks are f*cked up and the perks too. Also the game is even uglier then mw2. MW3 is a big disappointment and I am done with the cod serie now.

To top it off is the vastly improved Spec Ops co-op that is now fine-tuned to be an equally enjoyable solo experience to the campaign with Survival discovering how to balance solo and co-op where Zombies et al could not.
People may argue that the game runs on an old engine but briefly ignoring the fact that this is a very nice-looking game with a silky smooth 60FPS: since when have engines been the be-all and end-all of a game's success... Ocarina of Time 3D is still one of the best games of the year despite running on an engine from a decade ago so that cant be a detrimental factor to MW3.....
The highlight of the series and the most fun I've had with an FPS since Portal 2 (and there have been many in between you'll all note) :)

Modern Warfare 3's singleplayer campaign hits many of the same highs and lows as its predecessors. Amazing setpieces serve as backdrops for giant firefights yet again. This is no understatement. Few games retain the crazy roller coaster pace that this does level after level, with brief moments to breathe set between the next eruption of gunplay. The shooting feels extremely responsive and well-tuned, and the battlegrounds challenge your awareness at all times. You're always given different situations that mix-up the gameplay just enough to keep things interesting. The game presents a formidable challenge, as always, on the Hardened and Veteran settings â

After the days I have spent on MW and MW2, I wanted this to feel new and make me want to progress through the ranks again but there is nothing here that feels fresh or different enough to drive me to progress. The maps are just more of the same, they could have come out of either MW2 or Black Ops. I think the general sentiment that it feels like an expansion pack is absolutely right, as graphically and in design style it is so similar to the other games. Single player is the same hectic mess as ever. No idea what the story is about but the general mechanics of everything works like all the other COD games. On the higher difficulty levels the enemy AI is aggressive but hardly intelligent. It is difficult to not compare this game to battlefield 3 as they are competing for the same market share. For me BF3 has made enough of a jump from Bad Company to feel like a totally different game and worthy of my £40. Love it or hate it, the variation that BF3 offers in multiplayer through the use of scale, vehicles and equipment progression is just far superior and feels like a new experience (certainly for 360). To sum up, I am really disappointed that this franchise is not the genre defining game it once was. The maps are uninspired (Hardhat is one of the dullest multiplayer environments on 360) and the gameplay, levelling up and customisation is just far too similar to what we have all played and loved before. Where's the fun in fighting endless enemies with only one other person? There is no fun in that. On to multiplayer... the maps are the worst I have ever seen. The graphics are extremely dated, Battlefield 3 just completely slaughters this game. The textures are also horrendous! Everything about this game is re-used from Modern Warfare 2. This game doesn't feel fresh at all. All of the guns and skins are re-used... the menus as well... even some of the buildings and vehicles. The sounds of the guns are still bad, and some are the same as MW2. Battlefield 3 is just so much better. Sorry if the truth hurts. This game is just a bad DLC to a game that came out two years ago. This game is great, builds on a strong foundation of call of duty games. Yes they didn't re-invent the wheel, but it is still the best shell out there by far! Multi-player is click and smooth as ever and the campaign had breath taking edge of your seat moments. If your looking for something different play a different game, if your looking for FPS heaven, this is as close as it gets!

This is an insult to anyone looking for a decent single player experience. MW1 was the pinnacle I'm afraid. Also I'm informed by friends elite does not work.

This lazy development process needs to be stopped. My advice is rent to find out if it is for you or not but with other more worthy games out there such AC, Skyrim and Skyward sword to name a few this poor effort is an afternoon rental at best.

The multiplayer is pretty much if it aint broke then dont fix it. Some minor tweaks and new game modes which make the game a much more even and accessable game for newcomers. Still by far the greatest online multiplayer franchise as is reflected by the amount of sales it gets every year.
Spec ops is much better and more thought through than modern warfare 2 and in my opinion is much better than the zombies game mode from another so called developer. If you are a lover of zombies however, it has a great survival mode for 2 players.

Well deserving of a 9/10 because it is what it is with some new features and more even gameplay for newcomers and everyone as a whole. It loses the extra point because it is just Call Of Duty and the survival is only 2 players. Have fun everyone and i will see you online :)

Just a last comment to say please dont listen to all the negative user reviews on this site because people are being crazy with the big fanboy battle over this and battlefield. They are both just a computer game and both involve pretend men running around with guns. Both games have flaws and both games have people who camp online. Battlefield is littered with snipers camping and cod is littered with people camping too. That is surely the people playing it and not the game itself that we should be giving a low score to. All i can say is buy the game you enjoy and ignore all these fools who think trolling a games score is a big thing to do. Why cant we all just get along. Its only a computer game afterall. Battlefield + Call of Duty = Competition, which is great for everyone :)

On the campaign front, the set pieces are explosive and and grand; but they do the typical bit of just throwing enemies at you in waves. No real A.I. to speak of. the story itself was a mess and had know feeling as to be given credit to show that any real thought was put into it. Now the multiplayer.......what a sham. at first you are overwhelmed with everything that there is to unlock; but the more you play, it becomes moot because as with the rest of the Call of Duty's, there is wonderful bit of lag that will kill your character and your soul. the lag isn't noticeable until you realize something isn't right. I upgraded my internet from 12 mbps to 20 and not a single bit of difference was made. quite a few times will I see the barrel of an enemies gun coming around the corner only to be killed, and when I watch the killcam, the other player has come around the corner, aimed right at me at shot me. That's not what I saw. It's even gone so far for me to be running and get shot by an opposing player, who in my screen, hasn't even rounded the corner in front of me yet. But in there screen? they did and I was just running right at them. Another disliked fact about the multiplayer? the maps are to enclosed. there is alot, and I do mean alot, of instances of running face to face with a enemy player running around corners, and there are alot of corners. Alot of corners for people to camp in, and that is what they do. All the maps favor camping because then if you're running, then it just becomes twitch gameplay. not skill, but who has the faster trigger finger and connection to the match. if your connection is suffering, then forget it. online videos posted on youtube of people getting high kills is all people camping. So, to sum it up. This has been the worst of the Call of Duty experiences since the first Modern Warfare. Be warned. and if you're a first time player, then the online experience will be brutal and will definitely not be enjoyable; but downright frustrating. Expand

Another cog in the machine of the anti-consumer methodology. Re-releasing the same old content and charging over the odds for the privilege of a few new maps and guns in the knowledge that the 'fanbase' will bend over and take it. I was 'meh' when Black Ops was coming out simply because I had that imbalanced and bug-ridden piece of **** that was MW2 in the back of my mind. I tried it and hated it.

    MW3.

I played a online for a few hours tonight at a friend's house. Wow.

    It's.... terrible.

It looks the same as MW2. Actually, my initial thought was that it did not look as smooth as Black Ops or MW2.
It's definitely faster paced... bullet damage is higher. You will go from 100% health to 0 without even seeing the screen go red because it's that quick (I'm talking softcore) with virtually any primary weapon, especially the Assault rifles. I suppose not necessarily a bad thing.

The new killstreak system is an upgrade I'll give it that. Perks seemed be more balanced.

Sniping is now incredibly easy. My second overall game but my first game of sniping (using the first Bolt-action rifle) I went 32-6. No joke. I don't consider myself a 'pro' either. Second game of sniping... 24-8. But the maps are ****ty. Nothing new. Nothing visually pleasing. It all looks the same to me.
The character animations seem to be so... not new.
All the sounds from MW2 are back in MW3... this pisses me off.
There are more guns than usual. But... 75% of them are previously used guns. Whoo.

Extremely disappointed and I will definitely NOT be buying this game. I recommend this game to anyone who doesn't mind paying $60 for basically the same thing they had 2 years ago. Less bugs though!

As for new players..... you will more than likely enjoy this game. Go for it.

Maybe if it was 40 dollars it would be a more believable price, but really it's almost like it's just a map pack with a new (4-5 hour) campaign. Comparably, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas was argued as not differing enough but really they changed gameplay mechanics, new NPCs, a huge new map, and loads of other features though it appeared virtually the same at first. So this game really has no excuse as to why they couldn't have expanded on and improved the gameplay further from its predecessors. Their only mistake is not putting much work into it so it seems. It's not hard to do what the Call of Duty series does nowadays compared to a game like... oh say.. skyrim. But Comparing the two is just moronic. I personally can't find anything wrong with this game that wasn't wrong with either of the other modern warfares. So, as a FPS, this game has exceeded my expectations as always and will be the only FPS in my library for a while. Sorry Battlefield fans, BF3 disappointed me. Expand

Sorry Activision, but its just a next title update. I'm very dissapointed, next time I will not buy "another" Call of Duty game. Really sad to say it but its true.

I have had my complaints with Call of Duty games before and after sinking a few hours into each of MW3's modes I can say that it is without a doubt the most balanced and refined experience any of the Call of Duty games have ever delivered. The campaign is a non-stop adrenalin rush that keeps moving you from one crazy set piece to another. In multiplayer the game feels better than it ever has before with new point streaks and strike packages to help give the game a sense of balance that was sorely missed in MW2. Personally the highlight of the game comes in the new Spec-Ops survival mode. This new mode highlights what makes Call of Duty such a great gaming experience; online or split-screen co-op, fast past gun fights that increase in difficulty and a leveling structure similar to the online multiplayers offering allow this mode to become a very satisfying and addicting treat that will let players enjoy MW3 for a very long time.

AND It really is a shame what people are doing here by rating the game low simply because THEY do not care for Call of Duty at all. Most of the bad reviews have come from people who never actually played the game. I saw an article on IGN.com about how bad these reviews have been from users so i thought i would give my honest opinion on what i thought of the game and how i felt about the sad trolling and/or blatant misinformation that has been posted about this game. This one's for you Glen Schofield! thanks for helping make a great game.

This is a must buy, especially if you played the previous 2 parts of it and you want to complete the amazing story.
Some people was expecting some change change but the game is already perfect, it doesn't need change, when the developers see that its outdated i'm sure they will come up with a new engine and better graphics and so on..
Thank you Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games for this amazing experience.

The story mode: Quiet a short playthrough, although not if you are getting all of the achievements/trophies, usual fast paced action adventure and a great way to complete the trilogy.
Multiplayer: Looks stunning, great action, well thought out leveling systems.

I liked almost ever aspect of the game. It seemed to me a fitting end to the trilogy.

To be fair there was very little actual innovation in this. But then again, the title has a 3 in it. What should you expect. The graphics and physics were clean and made sense. The AI's could use a little work in my opinion, but they are still superior to most games. Multi player is a blast. My only

Glorified map pack is what MW3 is. Maps are too small making snipers ineffective, hit detection is super wonky and single player is only 5 hrs long. Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops are much better games. Kinda of fun but don't waste 60 dollars on this.

I'm not into multiplayer gaming these days, so when I buy a shooter I expect a single player game on the quality bar of something Irrational Games might put out. And while I did enjoy the first and second instalment of CoD on PC, I have become pretty jaded at this point with the the Modern Warfare SP campaigns, which is really nothing more than the same game with a different paint job. Spec-Ops mode is fun for what it is, but other than that I cant in good conscience inflate my score any higher than a yellow mark. So sorry to Glen Schofield, I hear your appeal on twitter and I think it sucks that BF fans are being a-holes with the scores because I think that game suffers from the same lack of innovation and quality in the single player department too... But as far as this MW3 is concerned, imo its a mediocre game simply due to the fact I am so jaded on this franchise now. It just doesn't interest me any more... Doesn't mean any dev who worked on this title shouldn't be proud of their work, as usual their is a good level of polish, but even the most addictive innovative game can get boring after a while, especially if its milked so heavily. The tipping point was at MW2 I think, so we've already started on the gradual decline in gamer support for this IP. Anyone in the industry or who has been gaming since the Atari 2600 has seen this happen many times before. Its a slow undignified death. Expand

Special ops is really good. The Survival mode is quite challenging and will definitely meet the needs of quirky..trigger happy, adrenalin junkies.

I would have liked the campaign to have been longer, the story was good but the campaign was just way to short.

The multiplayer is where I the game disappointed me the most, and that's saying something from the already low expectations I had. Spawns are ridiculous in the game, after playing the multiplayer for a few hours, it astonishes me how often I kill someone to have them spawn behind me, or how often I spawn in an enemies path. The maps are all tiny full of winding corridors and very little open space. The guns respond terribly, and they all behave similarly (i.e. fire rate and stopping power). Kills come extremely easy, both ways, and take very little skill. Have had a few problems with lag so far, and it's not on my end, it's not that bad yet, but knowing the previous titles it will get worse with time. To me the multiplayer is just a chaotic mess, more akin to Halo than the COD titles I used to love playing. I give this a 3, because that's how many hours the campaign kept me entertained.

I'm really disappointed with this game, the online game could have just been paid DLC for black ops the graphics look pretty much the same, and the game seems glitchy especially with the hit zones. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
