Frankly, I play call of duty for online play, and this is the best they have ever released. It's stable, I haven't had any connection issues, the maps are the best of the entire series, and "kill confirmed" has me actually liking the series again. Can't believe they were able to win me back, but they did. Kill Confirmed alone makes this the best call of duty ever.

I'm sorry I really wanted to like this game but I just couldn't. I can't just play a game that asks you to pay 60$ for playing a game you already had for the past 6 years. I just can't being honest I am heavily disappointed and that come from a guy that played 47 days and prestiged 10th times in mw2 :,(

This game is the turn of the century, no wait.... It's just Modern Warefare 2 with a new bigger map pack worth $60. Waste of time, same game, nothing intuitive and very underpolished for a game of this magnitudes release. very unimpressed. 1 for storyline just finishing the story, not that it's fantastic, but it does tie together the story

Dissapointing rehash of MW2. Shame on you Activision. How could you let something like this get out the door? You have like 4 game development studios working on this game, and yet it looks as if someone made the multiplayer in 5 seconds

Takes everything good from black ops, mixes it with MW2, adds a few new features and BAM; MW3...amazing. Ton of content, great campaign, brings back spec ops, along with a mode that you fight waves of baddies. I really like that, because I wasn't a fan of zombies. So worth it, game is a ten out of ten.

It's getting a bad rep for the wrong reasons.

Yes the spawning is less than optimal, yes the maps kinda suck, and yes "tubes" are back in (which I never saw why people were pissed about that in the first place; if you don't like it, don't play), but you're not going to find tighter controls, better fast-paced gameplay, or better weapon customization anywhere else. Best in the series?

But hey, I can live with that. If you're here to give it a bad score because someone used a grenade launcher on you or they knifed you from behind or if you just plain suck, then you have no real perspective on the game. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Again, have some perspective.

Why pay $60 for the same thing every year it's just like Madden. People are just like sheep. It's time to move on to something else with more innovation. Call of Duty Elite is a copy of Halo Waypoint and Waypoint is free for all features. CoD is lacking because they know you will buy it just because it's called Modern Warfare.

This is basically the same game as MW2, it feels the same exact way, nothing new other than a few features that were added, which I don't see how they couldn't have been made into a DLC package. Do not waste your money on this game, it is not worth $60, $30-40 at it's lowest I would say it's worth. This does not feel like blackops though, it just seems that they edited the MW2 engine more.

It's the same reason I don't buy Madden year after year - I'd rather wait until a major change or innovation comes along to turn things fresh again.

For that reason alone, I most likely will find myself finishing off the last few hours of the campaign, and shelving it for the time being.

Welp, I've spent the majority of late last night and today playing MW3, so I figured I'd post a review.

Let me start off by saying I got a lot of grief from friends who told me my comments on MW3 are non-valid until I've played the game. Well, I played it, and upon reflecting on that experience from a non-objective, unbiased point of view, I have come to the conclusion that all of my previous predictions of the game were true, with few exceptions.

I began by playing the campaign, and what fun it was. This new development team did a better job at tying up the loose ends from the jumbled mess that was MW2's plot that I thought, and it was quite a fun ride. The levels were varied and expansive, characters were well fleshed out, and the experience was what I'd expect from a COD game. That being said, another bland shooter, delivering just another bland Michael Bay style blockbuster, with shallow characters, over the top story, basically a jingly toy with shiny lights to keep us amused for 5 or 6 hours. It doesn't investigate the complexity human morality like Batman Arkham City does with population control, crime, or the moral implications of justice. It doesn't delve into a story of survival, with the main character's desperately fighting for humanity while uncover secrets of the history of the universe as Halo does. The only challenge presented to players is how many bullets are shot at you and how many bullets it takes to kill someone, unlike Half-Life 2 and its physics puzzles. Nor does MW3 give players any variety in how to play, if you fail at stealth you automatically die, unlike Splinter Cell, which gives you a multitude of choices on how to proceed through the levels. The game is just too simple.

Now onto multiplayer. New killsteaks, new toys, new perks, new guns, new maps. Same gameplay, same experience as Black Ops, MW2, MW1, just more polish and new toys. Its fun as hell, thats right, you heard me, I loved playing it. But I can have the exact same fun and the exact same experience on any of the other COD titles I have. I knew this going into the game, and I figured I'd try this new system out, and I just can't distinguish the gameplay from any of the others.

Overall, the game feels like its a five year old game that could have been an Xbox release title. The graphics are sub par compared to every other recent shooter, there's hardly any physics aside from glass bottles and cardboard boxes that get shot around (every thing that happens is scripted, not random, so its not physics), even the external gun models look like they came out of Counter-Strike 1.6. I can't find the article, but I read an interview with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick about the future and he said that someday COD games will have movie/film like quality, with more realistic character and facial animations, etc. He's right, eventually COD will catch up with Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, the Mass Effect series, Arma 2, etc.

A I'd also like to note a few nitpicky things that surprised me. Characters say "Roger Wilco" a lot. You never say "Roger" with "Wilco," the "Roger" is implied. Its just as bad as saying "Over and Out." You just don't do it. The charging handle on the ACR is ambidextrous, so why does the player character reload with his left hand, then take his right hand off the pistol grip to charge the weapon? Also, why charge the weapon at all? The M4, ACR, G36 and many more have bolt locking mechanisms, so theres no need to pull back the charging handle. I was actually surprised at this, even Battlefield 3 has the player model grips the foregrip with the "magpul technique," or uses the support hand to reach under an AK and charge it without removing his primary hand from the pistol grip, as they should.

In conclusion, its just another COD game on a five year old engine, brings nothing new or innovating to the genre, and is nothing more than an update to COD4.

I'm sorry if you blew $60 on this game, because you could've just rented it for $2 at a redbox for the campaign and continued to play Black Ops for the same multiplayer experience.

Lets assume COD4-7 never existed, I'd give MW3 a solid 7 for being original, and a joyful experience.
If MW3 was only $20 and the other games do exist, I'd give it an 8 for being a worthy expansion pack.
But, because its just another MW update, it gets a 2.
Fun, but not worth the money, especially if you have any of the past three games in the series.

Single-player is the exact same thing as before. The one, very short experience up in the AC-130 was the most enjoyable thing in the game, and it was nowhere near as fun as in MW2. Outside of that, you're basically jumping between random characters in different countries doing whatever is necessary to make the story appear to move forward. I enjoyed the way things progressed through MW2, because there were some neat aspects to it in addition to the AC-130 mission, like the Zahkaev sniping mission where you're in a very tall building a long way off, or when you had to protect your sniper buddy in Chernobyl, or storming an enemy compound with Soap during a snowstorm. MW3 is not innovative like this in any way. It brings absolutely ZERO newness to the table. Like everyone has said, they basically copied what they did with MW2, threw a low-budget, cookie cutter movie sequel story line on it, stole some multiplayer aspects from other games, made them all worse, and renamed them so they would appear fresh and new.

My advice? If you haven't yet bought this atrocity, buy Skyrim on 11/11/11 and enjoy what will surely be countless hours of actual innovation and gameplay.

Right?! Someone plays the single player??). Anyways, I found the single player to be marred with a major flaw; infinite enemies and an on-rails campaign. Infinite meaning if you stay in one spot and don't progress on your "rail" - the enemies will keep coming and coming...annnd coming. Remember the vietnam like level in Black Ops when you have to progress down and up the hill and take cover in the trenches? Yeah, it's like that....all the time.

The graphics are essentially the same as we've been accustomed to since the original Modern Warfare. Biggest difference I can spot is they seem to have an extra coat of shine on them and seem a bit crisper and sharper. However, the engine is definitely starting to show it's age and is in dire need of an update when compared to more recent games (except Homefront lol).

Multiplayer: I've spend about 10 hours online and the new Confirm a kill is a refreshing change although it was done in Crysis 2 with the dog tag collection. Seems to be a bit less camping than usual and a bit of teamwork involved as anyone on your team can collect the dog-tags. It also results in a mad rush to steal dog tags that you've earned by killing opponents. Hit and miss, can be great fun if no one ganks your hard earned dog tags as you're running to collect them.

The running also seems to have changed a bit. It feels a lot more jerky when you go into a sprint than previous games. Doesn't seem as smooth and it feels like they've reduced your sprint time.

Sound: This is my biggest beef with the game. The guns sound so weak this time around. I don't know what they've done in the sound department, but all the weapons just sound so muffled. I don't feel like I'm firing an AK-47. I feel like I'm firing a paintball gun. The noise is just pathetic.

Bottom line: This will be my last Call of Duty game until I see a substantial update from IW or Treyarch. The formula seems to be growing stale. If I didn't know that MW3 was out and a friend showed this game to me while they were playing some multiplayer; I would have assumed that he or she were playing MW2 on a map pack that I never downloaded during my excessive stint in the online portion of MW2.

Yes, they are both modern shooters with pretty graphics and good gameplay. Outside of that, though, there are NO notable similarities. COVERS MULTIPLAYER AND SPEC OPS ONLY

Anyways, the game is still just as good as previous iterations. The series has decayed over time, and what felt fresh and exciting in Call of Duty 4 feels generic in 2011. Despite this fatigue, it's just as addictive as ever. I'm already level 25, and it has barely been two days since it was released. The Spec Ops mode was fantastically addictive as well, and is the freshest and most fun part of the whole package. I've played the first few levels of single player, but haven't beaten it so I wouldn't want to talk about that aspect without completing it. All in all...buy this game if you are a casual shooter fan. If you are a hyper competitive multiplayer gamer, and find Battlefield 3 too "open" for your tastes, pick this up as well. I'd normally give this an 8.75, but since this scale wouldn't allow anything besides full numbers, and this terrible and suspicious backlash, I'm giving it a 10. I know it won't affect the score, I just want to point out the hard work people put into making this fun game and hopefully knock some sense into these idiots.

What has this industry come too when a game like BF3 trail-blazes with new innovation and cutting edge technology, and receives the same and in some cases lower scores than a game that was sub par 3 years ago. I admit BF3 is too hard for me to get into it too much, but I don't feel blatantly disrespected and insulted as I do with MW3. Shame on you IGN and other reviewers... shame on you. We know what Activision is up to, we aren't all so blatantly and utterly stupid, and we know what is driving these high reviews. It sure isn't the quality of the game. This game is worth a 7, but I'm rating it a 0 in protest of this huge scandal, and because there is no reason why they couldn't/didn't make a game worthy of 9/10 scores. Expand

I didn't enjoy the game, but I wasn't going to review it here. I wasn't until I saw Glen Schofield basically ask for positive reviews. That is disgusting.

The game is nothing but a carbon copy of its predecessors in every single way. I have no problem with a yearly release, but where's the innovation? It's the same tired crap again and again. There are areas where it tries to be original (the plane scene, I use the term scene because the entire game is more equivalent to a Michael Bay movie) but it fails to be interesting in the gameplay. I mean, we did this in 2007, what the hell have they done since that makes it any more engaging? Cinematic? Cool, but if I wanted cinematics I'd watch a movie or a heap of game trailers for a fraction of the price.

Now - multiplayer. The level 'design' is piss weak which has obviously only been designed for a 360 controller, which isn't bad, but anyone that is half decent with one will find it boring after an hour or two. You can get away with just running around aiming only on a horizontal axis.

This is a joke. IW are a joke. It seems only Treyarch can create a semi-decent COD now, and even then...

What gets me the most is that this is what sells. Judging by the user score, it might not be the case next year, unless the developers pull their #*(@!ing fingers out.

That being said, one the successes that CoD has influenced on the FPS genres was lead by the innovation the development team creates. Yet this year, even with bringing two new development teams to the mix, very few new game mechanics were brought into the game. Like a lot of people are saying how MW3 is just a map pack for MW2, the only real "new" aspect of the game is new maps and weapons. Weapon proficiencies is just a perk slot you earn for a specific gun and kill streaks are still the most emphasized attribute, more than playing the game mode. With all the drama involving IW you would think they would have dished out something spectacular this year. If you liked MW2, this game will keep you moving forward. Otherwise, this shall go down as one if not the biggest game let down ever. Sorry IW, I love ya but you don't get my vote this year. Expand

The gameplay has been stagnant for these 4 years as well. The Single player campaign is a laughable 3 hours long and consists of a story that resembles something a 4th grader would write up during study hall. The multiplayer brings nothing new to the table, it is nearly identical to all previous installments.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer is the best multiplayer experience up to date. Activision has mastered the art of making fun multiplayer online first person shooter. Every facet of the game is recycled, save for one or two new game modes, which are just slight variations of other game types that add nothing to the experience. The few new perks only enhance the lazy, fearful method of camping in the multiplayer, making it all the more easy for campers (read as 99% of the community) to play the game their way, creating an unfair playing ground for people who want to actually play. Adding even more crap to the steaming dumpster pile this game is is the fact that almost all of the maps feature cluttered messes littering the world, making it impossile to get around with any sort of sense. I guess learning where all the little pieces of junk you can trip on can help, but doing so would not be easy or fun. The game itself is not unplayable from a coding point of view, but the way people play do.

Not totally the developer's fault, Modern Warfare 3 leaves a lot to be desired. The game feels like a precursor to the original in terms of playability, and adds only features that grant cheap players the ability to play even more cheaply. Overall score: 2 out of 10

The physics feel cheap and flimsy, as the guns do not actually recoil realistically and animations look unnaturally robotic. Being able to go full auto at someone with a machine gun while having the reticule barely budge makes the gunplay feel unrealistic and cheap. Sound effects are equally messy; gunfire sounds more like a fruitblender than anything else. Firing the weapons has no weight behind them due to the muffled, unrealistic sound effects and the robotic physics, giving little to no satisfaction in landing hits. At 60 bucks, IW is robbing us of our money. This is almost the same game, with the same engine, the same graphics, and same gameplay as the previous two. Say what you want about Vince Zapella, Jason West, and the 40+ other Infinity Ward employees who left IW for Repsawn entertainment - but their creativity was sorely missed from Modern Warfare 3 - and it was clearly evident that those 40+ former IW employees are what made the Modern Warfare games fun.

Game is just MW2 in a different wrapper. There is no innovation in this game, and is completely stale. I must say they really dropped the ball. The fact that people are willing to buy this game just shows that we are all ok with settling for mediocrity in our first person shooters.

yes this game is a little bit to similar mw , was , mw2 and black ops however this game does not deserve a 1 or even 2 out of 10

just because you don't like cod doesn't mean you need to bash it by giving such low scores

The mulitplayer is strong and updated 2 points for that, the campaign is fun to play and features stunning events 2 points for that, the spec ops mode is a great extra that can be very enjoyable while playing with a friend and survival mode just gives it that addictive edge, 2 points for that, call of duty elite while the servers are down currently due to over population, is a great feature that extends the multiplayer of call of duty, 2points and finally multiplayer is addictive as ever and many changes and features have been tweaked, added and removed to fix any problems the previous games had not to mention the new ban hammer, 2 points for that. thats 10 points. but the game like everygame is flawed, the graphics while gripping are not as up to date as many other games out nowadays but at least it runs smoothly at 60fps, so minus 0.5, the multiplayer maps are too tight cornered in my opinion but nothing devastating, minus 0.2, and lastly there seems to be a bug in campaign and single player with the enemy AI where they sometimes don't die or are dead but remain in the combat position but its not so frequent so minus 0.3. so i rate this game 9/10, a good upgrade from mw2 and definatly better than black ops Expand

It seems like most of these people bought this game just to rant about how much they hate it. Wile I won't say it's perfect or the most innovative thing that's ever happened to the first person shooter genre, it still provides a solid multiplayer experience, despite much of it being recycled from Modern Warfare 2. Is it as good as Battlefield 3? No, but it's still a ton of fun.

Activision doesn't bother to make a new game engine. It continually copies the same game year in and year out. I'm tired of spending 60 bucks for a carbon copy of a game I played last year. I said to myself I would never buy a COD game again after Black ops. I'm tired of being fooled by activision. I DID play this game at my friends house. A lot of my friends are still under Activisions spell. They don't realize they are getting ripped off. The game is essentially the same as Modern Warfare 2. The campaign is the same, and so is the MP. The survival mode is new, but nothing special. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BUYING COD GAMES SO ACTIVISION WILL MAKE A NEW GAME ENGINE!!!!

If people keep buying COD games that reuse the same engine, Activision will keep making a carbon copies of their games. We need to send Activision a message and teach them a lesson that we won't fall for their money hungry tactics anymore. From this moment forward, promise yourself that you wont:

Buy a Carbon copy of a COD game. DON"T BUY NEXT years COD!!

You wont pay 15 dollars for four maps

You won't wait online at midnight to buy a rehashed game

The list can go on and on.. but the bottom line is, Activision will keep using their customers if they keep buying this crap. Stand up and don't take it anymore. As gamers, we deserve better. Activision hasn't changed their engine since 2007. Thats complete garbage.

But this one has fixed all of the game breaking, rage inducing problems of its predecessor. I can safely say I am having the most fun here than in any Call of Duty yet.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
