    Single player I would give 10/10. Perfect, no bugs, interesting story. Difficult on veteran so will get my hours out of the single player. However After I finish SP stories I rarely go back and head to multiplayer.

    This is where the game just doesnt do anything for me. But thats the problem, its just the same as the last few iterations. I want something new something fresh.

    All of the immediate backlash from clearly unintelligent people expecting some revolutionary game is, quite humourous. The fanatacism in the video game industry now is quite pathetic. This idea that you can only enjoy and support either Battlefield or COD is beyond absurd. You literally couldn't compare two more distinctly opposite games, with the only similarity being that you shootAll of the immediate backlash from clearly unintelligent people expecting some revolutionary game is, quite humourous. The fanatacism in the video game industry now is quite pathetic. This idea that you can only enjoy and support either Battlefield or COD is beyond absurd. You literally couldn't compare two more distinctly opposite games, with the only similarity being that you shoot various types of weaponry. One does it's best to emulate a more strategic, team-based, open battlefield design, while the other is clearly meant to be a frantic, tight-quartered dose of chaos and over-the-top action. For me, I enjoy them both BECAUSE of their specific differences.

    As for the game..............

    Well, having not played any of the COD games since MW2 (which was pretty awesome), I can say that I didn't have any hopes or expectations on this game. Since MW2 I had spent more of my limited gaming time enjoying the Battlefield series and had recently decided to give this a spin. Well worth it. Pure fun, pure entertainment. There really isn't much negative I could say about it. It's a nice change of pace from Battlefield, and was an immediate wake-up call to me that I needed to change my FPS skills accordingly.

    If you're expecting something mind-blowing or revolutionary, you're simply not thinking straight and don't really have the ability to comment on the gaming industry. If you're somebody who enjoys the adrenaline of fast paced, over-the-top action and enjoy constant unlocks, a plethora of game modes and maps.......then you should love this game.

    I have found the single player campaign to be quite shallow and unfulfilling.....compared to games like Batman which pretty much keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time and coming back for more with tonnes of replayability. However once MW3 was over I felt like I'd just been stabbed and left for dead and 100 dollars poorer. It's just the same old game slapped together with explosions and slow motion gun scenes to impress 12 year olds. Not even going to attempt multiplayer as it's insulting I have to pay the elite service to view all the cool stats you can get for free on battlelog with Battlefield 3....I tried to write this without comparing it to Battlefield 3 but I couldn't help it. While Battlefield 3 is enjoying a growing online community I can't really see the COD community coming together over this one. So is it really worth playing? If you are one of those brainless type who loves action movies with no substance then this game is probably for you. Is it worth paying for? Absolutely not. It is not worth paying over 100 dollars for any game that is still using a game engine that was built in the 90's.… Expand

    I really enjoyed cod 4 mw1 and I cant remember the amount of times I reset my rank. It was fun then but now it is old and I really cannot see the point in playing the same game and paying 1 euro or 60 euro for it.    … Expand

    Yawn, sorry, but it feels exactly the same as before and I am returning my copy. What I don't understand is the frothing critics who have unanimously praised this as a 'game of the century' - either they didn't play it, or the free goodies from Activision has blinkered them somewhat...

    This game is a let down. Treyarch just does COD better than Infinity Ward. First, the maps are a mess, they are uninspired, smallish and just maze like ti be maze like. This version is all about either hiding in a nook or just blazing around the map overrunning players spawning in.     A soulless cash-in, Modern Warfare 3 represents everything that is wrong with modern gaming. I have no doubt that it will be showered with 9+ scores, but in reality this is merely a phoned-in recycle of a 4 year old game.

Plays like Modern Warfare and Black Ops, looks like a cartoon, the character animations are a joke, you aim down the sight like you're covered in mud, and try running around with a shotgun. Ah, yes, when I heard the sound of the guns and saw most of the guns (M4), I laughed out loud. Unintentional, but I laughed. I expected this gameplay to be decent, like most other Call of Duty's, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. It's a terrible mess. No innovation whatsoever. You can change the perks and killstreaks, but it doesn't change the fact the game feels exactly the same, except for the slow, quicksand feeling when you run, but looks worse. Activision bragged about fast-paced gameplay at 60fps, huh? Not nearly as fast-paced as before, and the dedicated servers lag worse than most servers. Singleplayer was garbage. The only thing I found was tons of fun was the new Juggernaut gametype, Infection, and Survival. But that's something they stole from another game. *ahem* Kind of like theater mode.… Expand

    Waste of money and waste of time. Why spend money on this game when I already bought it with mw2? I don't want to spend 65$ on DLC and why it was reviewed how it was by the critics i'll never know. The campaign is the only reason people will play it and after that's done they will have to suffer with the thing they call multiplayer or put the game away and realize it's money well wasted.

    Bargain basement or rent. What's new? Absolutely nothing that is worth the horrendously high rip-off price. Will be trading this in (along with BF3) for something, hopefully, far better than this pile of dung! Avoid at all costs!!!

    I've now put about 10 hours into Modern Warfare 3 and all I feel is overwhelming disappointment. It's unfortunate that this series refuses to expand beyond the tired run and gun gameplay that it's known for. It has become a hard truth that as long as fans swarm in droves to buy what's popular, Infinity Ward and Treyarch will continue to churn out the same, rancid "if it isn't broke don'tI've now put about 10 hours into Modern Warfare 3 and all I feel is overwhelming disappointment. This is nothing more than a giant map pack for Modern Warfare 2 with different names slapped on the same modes you've already been playing. Other shooters have already added so much more to the table. Battlefield continues to push the envelope with realistic physics and gunplay. Halo continues to explore new modes and different styles of play. Even games like Killzone had great things like the ability to lean in and out of cover. Modern Warfare 3 proves that the Call of Duty franchise has run out of gas and has nothing new to offer except millions of new dollars in Activisions pocket for the same thing you've bought 8 times already. Save your money, and if you must play, please do yourself a favor and rent first. Chances are you'll long for the glory days of Call of Duty 4 before your 5th hour of play.… Expand

Dont believe the reviews, I reckon that they are payed and they kind of tricked me. I knew this was coming and i got it cheap but I still feel a little wronged . Of course, I still have BF3 to keep me busy, but expect similar problems (except with multi and coop, they are flawless) but the campaign was a ltittle strange. I wont elaborate on the IW engine and the Frostbite 2 one, because this is not a rant, although i dont give details. The IW engine is borderline ok; it still looks fine, and there is a clear 60fps being consistent , but it shows that its a bad effort, as the swift controls and user friendly design was done badly on MW3.
    Look at the user reviews; take away around a quarter from pos and neg and you get rid of the fanboy crap. Still its bad. Activision knew that this would happen, considering Black ops had also bombed in actual worthiness so they hyped up MW3 with advertising and paying off reviewers eh.
    Expect a **** of kids who will infuriate you with obviously better guns. Expect to be screaming at the tubers and cheap deaths. Instead of ridding the MW franchise of the stupid kids its embellished it. If you love to the point that its all you talked about on Nov 7, buy it, Otherwise dont. It couldve been so much more, but it wasnt. (I bought this on the pc but its the same.) Kids will flood it, ruin it, but if you are 12 go nuts.    … Expand

The online for this game has not gone far from its grandfather golden eye tho so not much be said for it. That said, it honestly baffles me how the CoD franchise can copy and paste every iteration and keep getting 9's. There's little to no graphical difference between them, there's really no gameplay changes between them other than the renaming of some of the kill/death streaks. The AI is bad, the voice overs are bad, the maps are small and campy, et cetera. It's basically a carbon copy of MW2 and Black Ops. |||| Now I'm sure people will say "the game was perfect and sold millions so they don't need to change anything". To say the game was perfect is hubris of the highest order though no one can dispute that it sold millions. However, consider, in the same time frame, that Epic Games continually tweaked UE3 for the Gears franchise, making each one richer than the previous, DICE brought out a new engine this generation for BFBC2 and BF3, and Bungie modified the Halo 2 engine for H3 and ODST while making an entirely new engine for Halo: Reach. But Call of Duty? To quote one of its own callsigns: S.S.D.D. I don't think it's too unreasonable to ask for at least a new engine and some better graphics after all these years, even if they leave the core gameplay the same. |||| The game is enjoyable but it's AVERAGE. The engine and the gameplay style show their ages.     Horrible. Horrid. And just disgusting. I wanted a new game, not cod 4. If I could return it, I would. But sadly, I cant. A downgrade from Mw2. Guns are so powerful it feels like im playing hardcore when im not.

    Don't completely blow this off. I call this the 60$ expansion pack to MW2. The single player campaign is worth playing and picks off where left off for MW2, however the multiplayer is what you come to expect from the ever so popular franchise. This being the case that on multiple maps feel like there is a small standstill at times due to the camping and collecting these tags. The pace of multiplayer speeds up with team defender which doubles points of kills while holding a flag. In all honesty, these two ideas felt like a call for help with the multiplayer hitting its limit of capabilities. Graphics are exactly what to expect for a console FPS, perhaps equal to that of BF3 for consoles. After looking at reviews for this game from USA today and other news sources, I almost felt like there was something that IW/BA forgot to put in my game due to the way I feel about the actual performance of the game. The game also renamed functions such as killstreaks to pointstreaks, which can be earned multiple ways such as completing the objective or killing someone. This leads me to the coop player/unlock system of purchasing, instead of leveling, of weapons, ammo, etc... It's hard for me to go more in depth as the multiplayer is nothing special and is in need of a PC like platform to support more than the seemingly tiny amount already in place. It's competitor, Battlefield 3, has kicked it up a notch for multiplayer for PC with absolutely stunning graphics, 64 players, tons of vehicles and weapons kicks Modern Warfare 3 in the teeth and it feels evident with the gameplay that IW tried last minute add-in's that didn't quite work out to draw fans away from EA's BattleFields 3.

    I was a huge fan of Modern Warfare 2 and came in with standard that surpassed in a few areas but still was let down in others. I don't blame the developers as much as the technology that Xbox & ps3 uses is a little more than just a few years old. To me the game feels more like a culture statement than an actual game due to the constant advertisements rolling on the TV, billboard, and shopping mall advertisements that hype up the game for non to occasional gamers category yet is the "same game, different name" category for me. It is worth 60% of the 60$...So 36$.

    Bottom Line: A good game, however the phrase I use "same game, different name" applies. That being said, still worth a crack at it but not as addictive as MW2/BF3 felt to me.    … Expand

    This game is bad. it's a carbon copy of previous CoD games. I totally bought it and played it. It was pretty much one of the most disappointing buys of my past 3 years

    This game is trash no new innovations at all it's a carbon copy of mw2. They've renamed the perks, renamed the killstreaks and used same textures as in mw2.

    The 2nd expansion pack to MW2 has arrived. More of the same- yawn. I'm not quite sure whether they are too scared of innovating and scaring off the occassional tatoo toting bogans who are cod fanboys, whether the release cycle is burning them, or they have just run out of steam. Either way this is dodgy.

    i gave it a 4 because of good single player. but the multiplayer was AWFUL, player about 10-15 matches and it was one of the worst experiences i had even though i was doing really well. going from battlefield 3 to this is a pretty massive difference that it hurts my eyes, what an eyesore of a game.

On a frigid November night during the year that was 2009, I anxiously sat outside of my local Gamestop along with my fellow gaming nerds, anticipating the greatest multiplayer game known to mankind. Throughout the 6 months that I religiously played this game, I saw a product with great potential and a strong foundation, but it lacked theI got this game early. Quite early in fact. On a frigid November night during the year that was 2009, I anxiously sat outside of my local Gamestop along with my fellow gaming nerds, anticipating the greatest multiplayer game known to mankind. Throughout the 6 months that I religiously played this game, I saw a product with great potential and a strong foundation, but it lacked the refinement that I expect to find in great works of art. Now, 2 years later I see my peers follow the same path that I did, and they frivolously throw their hard earned money into the hands of Infinity Ward, succumbing to the hype, and grossly over paying for a map pack. The fan boys will espouse about the new perks and other trivial additions, all of which took around 10 minutes to make. In closing, I encourage my fellow Americans to not buy this product, and take a stand for what is right.… Expand

This game does not justify the use of 3 it should have just been called patch update mw2.1. Cant justify the retail price for a four year old game slightly patched that i already own. The skins and most of the guns are the same from MW2. They have a new leveling system for guns which takes a real long time. Once again, there is pretty much no point to prestige. If anything your at a worse disadvantage under this system. Also, there are a lot of little glitches which definitely should be patched. I'm talking about how you run, the hitmarkers, and switching weapons. I think that you appear on the map if you get hit by flash. It's just stupid stuff that doesn't do anything but make the game worse. I just don't understand why it was like that in the first place. If they test the game they should see that it's dumb. Also, cod elite is just a rip of bungie.net. To me, I've grown tired of competitive gaming. Halo 3 and Halo 2 took some skill so I understood it, but Reach and Cod is just a different game. Now, stats are going to take even more priority over teamwork. All the good things that black ops did like Combat Training, Wager Matches, Zombies, PURE playlists. They got nothing to compare on here. Spec Ops was suppose to be a calling card to this game, but it just falls flat. It has too much randomness involved imo to match zombies. Although, zombies have lost some of their challenge too since gravy train was invented. Anyways, I just think if your a cod fan you should stick to black ops. Or any other new game you want (BF3, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, ect). Call of duty is dead guys. Sorry, but it's the truth. IW has proven to me that there is no creative effort left in this project.     I have nothing against this game. It's built for fun and that's what it delivers. The campaign just felt absolutely forced and was completely forgettable by the end of it. Spec Ops is trash because zombies in WaW and Black Ops was just so much better.

    The trolling of the user reviews for this game really disappoints me. There is no way, no way in hell, this game deserves anything less than a 7.5 from even the most jaded of gamers. When I read the early user reviews it was obvious the BF3 trolls were out in force. But the extent to which they have overwhelmed it made me wonder if perhaps Metacritic might try to filter the fanboys and retain some shadow of dignity. The professional reviewers inflate ratings, and no one questions this. When your livelihood depends on ad revenue and freebies from the ever-shrinking number of studios, who could really criticize them? That having been said, Metacritic has had the honorable position of hedging the professional reviewers with user reviews, and it made for the best (though certainly imperfect) way to judge a game one was unfamiliar with. Of course, MW is the biggest game franchise in history, so no one is really unfamiliar with it. Nonetheless, I wondered if Metacritic might take action to retain some semblance of objectivity. Then I realized Metacritic was owned by News Corp, which has a 5% stake in EA.com. Oh well. Something will come along to replace it i guess. BTW, I love BF3, glitches and all.    … Expand

    Unoriginal, lack of innovation, gimmicky, are just a few words to describe a game like this which gets a free pass by critics for the lack of unique new features while other games are harshly reviewed. I played COD4, and from there on it has been a steep downhill slope for the franchise. Stick to Battlefield 3 if you crave something that requires more skill and is a bit more mature.

Halo, Red Dead Redemption, and Gears of War managed to do matchups based on playing like leveled players against one another, but it seems, like everything else that should've been implemented into this new full priced game, that was too much to ask. If you've played the rest, you know what to expect, and you'll take your lumps to rank up, if you're new to the series, don't bother, you're just cannon fodder.     This is basically Modern Warfare 2 Version 2.0 . My expectations of the COD series have been steadily declining with the past installments. What really lacks in the COD series is the innovation and originality of Call of Duty 4.     Finished the campaign like in 7 hours, it was kind of fun to see the Word War 3, played the online for 2 days it's just about a 10-15 seconds secuence in 3 steps over and over: run, shot, die. It gets so boring after some matches. The graphics are not so good, the sound is normal.

    campaing and spec ops were awesome, but multiplayer was an epic fail in my mind. multiplayer was full of glitches and like the other call of duty games' multiplayer, it was a run and gun deal that didnt have any real tactical feel to it. im going to compare to battlefield 3 beacause it is a worthy game to compare by, it is able to give the player a tactical feel while playing, the knife iscampaing and spec ops were awesome, but multiplayer was an epic fail in my mind. multiplayer was full of glitches and like the other call of duty games' multiplayer, it was a run and gun deal that didnt have any real tactical feel to it. im going to compare to battlefield 3 beacause it is a worthy game to compare by, it is able to give the player a tactical feel while playing, the knife is a perfected weapon on bf3, but on cod, you can knife someone in the big toe and its an instant kill. bf3 also gives a real team game unlike cod games beacause in order to win the match you and your team need to work together, and on cod its lone wolf all the way, no matter the game type. bullet drop is my favorite thing on bf3, beacause its realistic, you cant aim 500 meters down range and have the bullet hit right in the crosshairs in real life so you shouldnt be able to do it in a game. just the way the game reacts makes battlefield the winner in this duel… Expand

    Having played this it is just terrible. A more correct term for this is MW2.5. I mean this is totally what I was expecting, another clone with the same graphics as it was in 2006 and same same everything as the other Call of Duty's.

Having bought every Call of Duty game (which has become as much of an annual release as the sub-par sports games that mar the industry) since Call of Duty 4, I can honestly say nothingAside from being literally EXACTLY the same cookie-cutter, generic first person shooter that the product-sponge of society has come to love so dearly, Modern Warfare 3 is probably the letdown of the century. Having bought every Call of Duty game (which has become as much of an annual release as the sub-par sports games that mar the industry) since Call of Duty 4, I can honestly say nothing has been changed. MW3 could have easily been boxed up and sold as an expansion pack. Literally no improvements were made, and the graphics were actually DOWNGRADED to even muddier and more lackluster textures than Black Ops and MW2. The multiplayer consists of a few new maps and guns, but that is it. The HUD has had NO changes at all, which is disappointing considering the ease and thoughtlessness with which something original could have been implemented. Gun sounds and many models were dug out of older game files and stuck directly into MW3 with new skins. The singleplayer campaign mode is nothing new for CoD games--a linear hallway with meaninglessly controversial and "shocking" plot twists, the corpses of which have been beaten to death by CoD developers so much that the plot in its entirety was easily assumable based on prior knowledge of the excuse for a "plot" that older CoD games have. It even included a now-obligatory slow motion section after many illogically unsurvivable "intense" moments. The final moment of the game could possibly be meant to come across as "epic conclusion, look at what just happened," but passes off for little more than a juvenile attempt at being edgy and brutal. Many of its elements are torn directly out of other popular media such as other movies or games, and it saddens me that society will gluttonously devour this ruined ramshackle husk of what was once a series with some potential. TL;DR: Modern Warfare 3 contains literally zero new elements, no innovation, and is/was marketed solely on the underwhelming achievements of its past. It is a reskinned expansion pack to Modern Warfare 2, and its commercial success is sickening. As a whole, the game is totally abysmal.… Expand

    Actually Impressed! It was better than i though it would be, really! Obviously it still sucks, no real destruction or vehicles. The graphics are not bad, but it still feels like Modern Warfare 2 :( The only reason it has awesome sales is cause there's tons of little 10 year old kids who are just followers and want to be really bad ass playing Cod.. makes me never want to buy another one!

One moment in particular puts you in an AC-130 gunship as one moment, and then fly's you down to the ground to play in your traditional FPS perspective. If you're not really interested in the single play campaign, MW3 and a huge multiplayer and cooperative suite bursting at the seams with content. You and a friend can team up and the the traditional 'Specs Ops' missions that were featured in Modern Warfare 2, or you can play the new 'Specs Ops Survival' mode. Survival mode puts you a multiplayer map of your choosing against wave after waved of heavily armed combatants. You can weapons to use (which you can also upgrade), close air support (airstrikes, A.I controlled Delta Force Squad), and explosives (C4 packs, claymores).

    But what you're probably here for is the multiplayer.

    The multiplayer features your traditional 'Call of Duty' staples including create a class, kill streak rewards and perks. Create and class allows you to customize your own load out to take into battle. You can choose what weapons to take in to battle, and also allows you to choose perks, which are special abilities that you can unlock and use on your multiplayer character. The kill streak rewards are now known as 'Strike Packages'. There are three types of 'Strike Package', assault, support, and specialist. The assault package includes the traditional kill streak rewards such as predator missile and AC-130 gunships, and they reset upon your death. The support package includes defensive rewards such as UAV's and recon drones. The most interest 'Strike Package' is the specialist package. The specialist package allows you to trade in your traditional rewards in for perks. A decent player can earn every perk in the game, and dominate with them.

    Now for the final part of my review, the balancing. Modern Warfare 3 was promised to be the most balanced 'Call of Duty' game to date, and I have to disagree. Weapons do way to much damage and the map still cater too much to camping. The maps have bad flow which causes things to not go as you would want them to go. People can still spawn right behind you and stick a knife in your back, not something you want to happen in a multiplayer game.    … Expand

    black ops was much better. mw2 and 3 are a disgrace to cod 4. they took the best cod and just ruined it's name. yeah, people will play it, but it won't be remembered. the reviews were probably paid for coz it is just complete bull once you play this game for more than 1 hour.

    This game is garbage. I regret buying it- it is 90% MW2, with some new features. this is a bull **** game. I would Like my money back IW. The new feature is similar to zombies, but a bit more realistic. and the new game play is intersting, but not worth th $60+

    I expected it to be the same. It actually is worse than black ops. a lot worse. the biggest problem I had was that survival was suppose to rival zombies. i can say it does not do this. too much randomness involved.

    Well not a whole lot has changed from the previous COD's, besides a couple new mp modes. Thankfully I picked up both, cod mw3 and bf3, but it looks like i'll stick with bf3.

These people may want to purchase this game and your negative "It's no different" attitude is putting these people off purchasing it, all because you are under the impression that a game that is very well done must be completely changed just because it is a new title. Look at Halo for example. Halo 3 was a huge success with a large fanbase. With the release of Halo Reach, many people disliked it due to it's huge changes in gameplay. This could have easily happened to Modern Warfare and i can see why they kept it similar. Also, there were many people complaining that the campaign was too short or not good enough. I found it hard to believe that there were people who seemed to buy a Call of Duty game for the campaign. Military FPS campaigns tend to always be well below average in my opinion and if you want a FPS singleplayer game i would recomend playing something like Bioshock and to stop ripping on a game that is almost entirely focused on multiplayer for its campaign.    … Expand

There was all this talk about overhauling how MP functions but really all I've seen is increasing the amount of carrot on a stick farming the game requires. Seriously, to place requirements on ATTACHMENTS just adds so much more of a grindy feel. Black Ops had the right idea, where you levelled up and unlocked guns and all you had to do was purchase the attachments you wanted. NOW you have to level up to get the gun, then level up the gun to get the attachment. WTF is that? That's a level of uneccesary farming stacked on top of going prestige.
    CoD Elite? wow it's the same thing as Bungie's stat tracking big deal, nothing new.
    Graphics, I find the game to look a great deal more polished than Black Ops which is good. But it really is no Battlefield 3/Crysis/Uncharted 3/etc. If your not expecting anything jaw-droppingly nice then I guess the graphics wont bug you. I have to wonder though, is reusing the MW2 enginge AND developing for 6-7 year old consoles really worth the sacrifice anymore?

    Sound: Really piss poor weapon sounds, just a complete recycling of MW2 sounds, which I disliked. Good thing about it though are the sound of footsteps which resonate quite clearly.
    -OK another good thing IW did was put a MUTE ALL function, which is perhaps the greatest idea EVER for the CoD series. THANK GOD for this mute all feature    … Expand

    This game is utterly terrible, it's jingoistic, ugly, barely different from its equally terrible predecessors, and an overall wretched mess. I wish I hadn't purchased it. I'll be returning my copy shortly for some trade-in credit, with a good 20 dollars still lost. Never again.

    I've played all of the Call of Duty's and I was happy for some reason but I am wondering why people hate it.

    Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

    I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
