Seriously how did a expansion pack for MW2 get a freaking 90? Took me all of an hour to figure out I wasted 60 bucks. Come with something new or don't come at all...this game shoulda been DLC for black ops.

It's not a bad game by any means. But it shouldn't even be one - it should be DLC. The campaign took me 4 and a half hours, and I wasn't rushing my any means. Just too similar to the last one.

Worthless PoS, same EXACT lagfest as MW2, nothing changed at all, the maps blow, are WAY too small, and make absolutely NO sense. IW has destroyed a once great series.

HAHAHA, honestly people? This game is definitely better than a 0. I am a fan of the three major online games: Halo, Modern Warfare and battlefield...all three of these games engines have changed VERY little except improved graphics and maybe some new weapons, so stop writing reviews saying that this game is crap. If you are giving it a 5 or lower, then you have something personal against the game as in being a battlefield fanboy and it is not a true review...yes, this game has flaws with the spawning system and i wish they had improved the graphics and gameplay quite a bit more, but nonetheless it is a good game and worth it. I recommend getting this game because the campaign continues the great storyline, spec ops is still awesome and online gameplay and leveling system is good...not great, but good....this game is especially good considering what has happened with infinity ward. This game deserves between a 75 and a low 90. Expand

All of these zeros are from COD haters. Click on "All this user's reviews" and notice that they all gave MW3 a zero on all platforms. Like you bought four copies? Its Pathetic. Its so obvious what they are trying to do. Metacritic should stand up and ban these fools. People come here for honest advice and opinions. Not to get to trolled by angry virgins.

This game is very fun to play. Buy it.

I've played through the singleplayer and enough hours of the multiplayer to get a good idea of what the game is like.

The singleplayer is terrible, like all of the recent games, but with an even sillier plot. This is forgivable however - who plays this game for the singleplayer? The multiplayer... well... its the exact same thing as the previous two. And to be honest, I'm sick of it.

Sure the previous games were good, but you can only play so much of it before getting bored. Infinity Ward could have at least TRIED to change things up but they didn't. And I feel ripped off for paying full price for it, something like this should be an expansion or DLC or something. It doesn't justify purchasing a new game.

This game somehow manages to be worse than MW2. These "pro" reviewers must have been paid off. The campaign is worse than BF3 (somehow?) and the multiplayer is just a cluster f*** merry go round of shooting people in the back.

I'm going to make this quick but I'm going to make a strong point. Call of Duty is everything that is wrong with the video games industry today. I'm not going to tell you that BF3 is better, because I don't play that either, and the only CoDs I've played is CoD2, and the original Modern Warfare. Anyway here is what I wanted to say. Since when is a game acceptable when it has one raceI'm going to make this quick but I'm going to make a strong point. Call of Duty is everything that is wrong with the video games industry today. I'm not going to tell you that BF3 is better, because I don't play that either, and the only CoDs I've played is CoD2, and the original Modern Warfare. Anyway here is what I wanted to say. Since when is a game acceptable when it has one race violently pitted against another, since when is a game acceptable to have you slaughter thousands of innocent people in broad daylight, since when is it acceptable for a game to have you mercilessly kill a terrorist in prejudice, without the right to a fair trial. Since when is it acceptable for a game to brainwash millions of our children into thinking that war, racism, and murder is the norm, that is an enjoyable pastime that each and every person should enjoy. Tell me Infinity Ward, when is it value for money for a campaign in a game to last less than 5 hours for the average player, since when do games have a final "boss" which consists of QTE only, since when do games care not for gameplay, and lead you through a script like a movie, care not for story and put you through the most generic terrorist attack story 3 times over, since when do the composers put barely any effort into their compositions... and the game I'm describing still sells 3.6 million sales in one day. Call of Duty now, to me is not a game, it is a piece of media that pushes the War Agenda for the country of America, it is the epitome of buying a brand, or a name and not a product, (i.e. Apple,) it is the perfect way to desensitize our kids, and make them believe that war is the norm, and that a hero is a man who kills another man in the name of patriotism. This game ensures that we put our future, and by that I mean our children, one step further away from our dreams of the likes of World Peace, or a unified world, because this game, and yes, many others like it have prepared them so, and put them in the state of mind that this is the right thing to do. I remember when a game was about traveling through an unknown world, meeting new characters along the way, battling inhumane beasts and aliens along the way, choosing how to change the world for the better along the way, all whilst being asked philosophical and psychological questions along the way, and making me a better person along the way. I don't know what to say in closing but I will say this, CoD is not a video game. Expand

It's a sad thing when people believe the things they like are much more superior to the things others like. Modern Warfare 3 is an upgrade to the previous versions, yes it plays the same with the same style of play, but so does the Battlefield series. People are so ignorant that they bash a game and then become oblivious to the game they follow that does the exact same things. It's people like this that give gamers a bad reputation on the eyes of others. The campaign is great and although it repeats similar scenes as seen in the previous games, it is still great to play through it. The visuals have been upgraded slightly from the previous generations and everything looks great. The sound effects have not received a similar upgrade and the it doesn't sound as great when compared to sound effects of other games, but it's no big deal. Although most people buy the game for the multiplayer, no oone can skip out on this. It's a great campaign that continues the story line that was established by its two previous predecessors. The campaign is where the true action is at. The multiplayer menus bring back a reminiscent feeling of the first Modern Warfare in which slightly the same. There have been a few multiplayer modes added to the already large variety of playlists. The action is quick and fun and the new additions of killstreaks and team streaks add a lot more strategic value to the game. The game automatically becomes a lot more fun when you establish a team with friends and you tackle the challenges of multiplayers in a much more coordinates manner. Very little has changed from MW2 and the original MW. The graphics, impressive in 2007, are lack-luster and dated now, kill-streaks are still too big a part of the game (as they have been ever since MW2), there isn't enough emphasis on gun-on-gun gameplay, and the single-player is the shortest in the series (which is a shame considering I am someone who has enjoyed the storyline in the franchise). Fortunately, the multiplayer, even if identical, is still nice, with new rules like dog-tags (no more campers). I personally think that it is even better than Black Op's multiplayer, and a little less broken. The single player is fun too, but the story isn't much to remember. The ending (don't worry, I won't spoil) is satisfying, but is also the worst out of the 3 MW games. The gameplay has somewhat of a twist to it with new settings and such, like NY, but nothing that blows your mind. I do think the single player is better than Black Ops, though, not looking like a Michael Bay movie during the COLD WAR. Co-op is, as always, fun, but I really enjoy the new survival mode, because playing with your friends on xbox live (or psn or steam) is that much fun. If you played Modern Warfare 2, then you played Modern Warfare 3, with maybe an innovation. That innovation is instead of Killstreaks, you get a "pointstreak" where it will allow you to choose your "limited" reward, based on what "strike package" you choose. So, they changed the name from Killstreak to PointStreak, and that is their innovation. Sounds familiar....

The graphics are subpar, compared to todays standard,(five year old graphics engine powering it.) and the gameplay is the same as any iteration of the past 3 Call of Duty's. I cannot give it a 0, due to the fact that it was a fun game 2...3...4 years ago, but now, I cannot see the point of enjoying this game anymore knowing that it is a remake of a game years older, with no true advancements in the game. Also, paying for the Call of Suty Elite service is a load of crap. World at War did the same service for free. World at War had stat tracking, Your aiming against enemies, where you died at on a map etc etc... So pay 60$ for a game, then 50$ now for the elite service,(If bought it past the 13th, then it turns to 80$) upfront, So now that turns into 110$ to play Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack MW3 Edition... Seriously? Yes you get DLC for the next year, but the fee upfront just kills me.

The story is shorter, and much of the same, run here, shoot that, blow this up, get in this vehicle, rinse and repeat, which im fine with, dont get me wrong its mindless fun, no need to think just shoot. But i just cant get into Modern Warfare 3. The multiplayer is stale, it doesn't improve anything, or fix and issues that where big issues through out the series. It feels as if they have taken a step backwards. I understand if your good at something, really good at something, you keep it going but after a certain point what your good at becomes subpar and you weaknesses are exposed, and that weakness is change. In a marked flooded with similar FPS experiences you would think to break the mold, switch it up, change how we play and FPS. Modern Warfare 3 plays it safe and gives you a reboot of what was successful in Modern Warfare 2. Which to me is a shame because there is so much potential in this series and it is sad that a group as talented as Infinity Ward can only give you what they have already given you years ago. People are going to buy this game because it has Call of Duty written on it, critics are going to review this game with high remarks because it has Call of Duty written on it. Take away the call of duty label and what do you have? a sub par shooter that fails to give you anything more then what is predecessors gave you, a story that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, a spec ops mode that was thrown together on a whim, and a multiplayer that is too scared to try something new and get old very fast, faster then any mutliplayer before it. Finally, in the huge debate between Battlefield, and Cod. Each game does what they do best, cod is frantic gunplay in close quarters that forces you to stay on you toes, Battlefield is a large play area that focuses more on staying alive and strategy and vehicle play. Each game draws a different crowd. But dont rate Modern Warfare 3 because its not battlefield or its not as good, its not ment to be battlefield, its not ment to play like battlefield, its ment to be an FPS that is unique and delivers a large amount of action, but falls short of that goal by giving you the same shooter, the same story and the same everything. its not worth a 10 and its certainly not worth a 1. its a 7 at best. A completely unoriginal update to the franchise, it uses the same engine the same graphics and the same run and gun game play with hardly anything different. It has been like this ever since modern warfare came out, just a new game every year with nothing but different guns. I am tired of this and would love some fresh blood into the series.

It has also reused the same graphics engine without bothering to make improvements for the fourth time in a row.
Of course, that's not to say a developer should focus on fixing what isn't broken. However, fixing nothing and only focusing on adding new gun skins doesn't do anything to help a series evolve, much less improve. And that is something Modern Warfare 3 failed to do: improve. A complete rehash of a series of rehashes, all with stagnant, random gameplay. So I urge you, the consumer: do not buy this game. Do not support the corporate greed of the developer if they are not willing to provide a worthwhile product.

Unfortunately, Activision released exactly the same game for the third year in a row. Never saw that one coming.. As they have proven time after time since the merger, Activision is really only concerned with the bottom line. It's much easier to release the same game with an "upgraded" engine year after year than it is to actually create anything even close to resembling an innovative product.

OK, so I have played quite a bit of this game so far and I will admit that it is more of the same, but to the point where you don't really care anymore. The new improvements are really good (Call of Duty Elite is great) and the new "Pointstreaks" give everyone a chance and they are all really well balanced. The campaign side was pretty bland, kind of like Battlefield 3 but we all know that multiplayer is where it's at for these games, and MW3 won't disappoint. If you were never really a Call of Duty fan, this game won't change your mind. If you love Call of Duty, then you will love this game. To be honest, I am quite shocked the user score for this game is so low, but I can't judge how people feel about a game. This game is worth the money. I know there is a battle between MW3 and Battlefield 3 and being a fan of both games, I would have to choose Battlefield 3 over MW3 by a slim margin because Battlefield 3 feels like it's a complete and total overhaul that is crafted very nicely. We as gamers need to be more blunt and harsh on games because we know that the so called "journalist" will not. If Activision and other companies would stop releasing the same thing every year and come up with new stuff gaming would be so much more exciting.

Complete and total garbage. In fact calling MW3 garbage is insulting garbage, because garbage is better than MW3.
I'll start out with the multiplayer. After playing some story mode to get use to the controls to see if they were any different (not really) I went in and started playing some multiplayer. It's the same thing I've been playing for a good couple years, except somehow worse. The killstreak turned pointstreak system is idiotic and I was skeptical at it's unveiling, but seeing it in action truly made me cringe.
Each option is bad, one being overpowered (you don't lose points after death), one ho hum (the traditional kill streak system, but more boring), and the other idiotic and inconceivable (you gain perks every kill, HOW THOUGHT OUT).
I could go on how imbalanced the system and game is but it would be more of the same. This game is disgustingly terrible and a waste of money. Please save your hard earned cash (or your parent's, in that case, you will probably LOVE this "game") for something else. Or maybe just burn it, it's a better way of throwing away money.

The reason that I am skipping it is simply because I am getting tired of paying $60 for essentially a map-pack and a weapons add-on. I was one of the people who was going to get this game until I saw the list of changes and it failed to impress me. I bought BF3 on the day that it came out and I got hooked. I didn't get hooked because it was a total departure from CoD but because it gave me an opportunity to experience a more immersive game-play style. I don't ever recall having to have to worry about my position within the map in terms of sun-light/shadow but it plays a huge part in BF3 and causes me to slow-down and think. I have also found out that just because I'm hiding behind a wall, it doesn't mean that this wall will forever keep me hidden. (Thanks to the ability of someone taking out that wall and me along with it!)

The evolution of video games has been a lot about player immersion, which is why the original COD and COD4 was so successful to begin with. They were both very innovative games and that is what has made them into the juggernaut that they are today. Based on all my research however; MW3 fails to move the series forward and instead is sticking to it's tried and true formula, which at this point is just disheartening. This year my money is with EA.

I am giving this game a 0 simply because it's what it's earned in my book and also because it's the amount of money that Activision will be getting from me this year.

    Thank you for reading.

And speaking of multiplayer, why is everyone complaining about mw3 being similar mw2? Mw2 was great. Mw3 keeps what mw2 did well and makes some interesting changes to the killstreak and class customization systems. I'm giving this a 10 to offset all the haters but it's probably more like a 7 or 8. I am giving a lower score because they did not use the best features of black ops: rotating challenges and "buy your gear and perks" model.

To all the people who say the campaign blows I'd like to let you in on something. THIS IS MULTI-PLAYER GAME. If you're buying this game for the campaign please save

The game is very similar to MW2. So if you like MW2 you will be happy. This is my impression after 2 hours of play on several maps. The map complexity and detail is much improved over black ops with several good sniping lanes and multiple tiers for height advantage. I played over 250 hours of black ops and I think the hit detection is much better. The new "kill confirmed" game mode is interesting. In this mode you have to collect a dead player's dog tags to score points for the team. You can also collect your teams dog tags to keep the other team from scoring points.

I enjoyed Modern Warfare 1 for story and MP, and Modern Warfare 2's MP and I never got along, but the story was great and action packed as usual and key features and gameplay additions were made. The graphics are old, the facial animations stiff, the characters round turns like robots, the sounds are still terrible, and many of the environments still look like cardboard, which, in MW 1 and 2's case, I excused because of the exciting game play and story. MW3 is just a rehashed and uninventive copy of the first two. I played the whole campaign and never once felt the rush or compulsion I did in MW 1 and 2. Then I tried the MP, the three maps I played for mostly flat, mazes that were CQB and very, very bland. Everything looked exactly the same. I legitimately attempted to enjoy this. I did, but it's obvious that Activision is just grubbing for money. If Infinity Ward's original creators would've been at the helm, things might have been different. All and all, hugely disappointed. Went this morning and got it, been playing it, beat the campaign and multiplayer, and now I am returning it. I actually managed to sell it to a 13 year old's mom standing outside the local gamestop for $65 dollars because they ran out of copies. Suggest waiting a few weeks for all the lag and glitches to come out. Not worth 60 dollars.

Basically the Modern Warfare 2 with a horde mode
The story is nonsensical (something about Russians blowing up kids) Multiplayer is copy and paste from MW2
We can't let big developers get away with this lazy game design any more
    I want some bloody originality!

I liked the first Modern-Warfare. MW2 used the same formula and started to the get boring. But MW3 is the game that Call of Duty series is so overrated, it's 60 bucks MW2 DLC, a copy paste of the same game over and over again. The multi-player is unbalanced and frustating, the single is short (again).

An absolute mess of a game. A complete reslin of mw2 with a bunch of terrible designed, new gamemodes. A cheap, pathetic singleplayer with unnecessary explosions and action and a stupid spec ops mode that could never replace zombies.
The worst COD by an absolute mile, by far one of the worst games Ive played this year, TERRIBLE!

Been following this game, hasn't been interesting to me at all in the slightest. Watching videos of it just makes it out to be boring. To me, it's the worst CoD to date. Activision needs to take a break on this franchise.

And even ignoring the at best average COD:3, I still loved the series, and loved it even more when they dropped COD:4. Sure I was still playing BF2, but there was nothing like Modern Warfare, and in many ways it was better than BF2. But now, I can only sigh when I see another COD being released. For all of their influence and reinvention of the FPS genre, they have fallen completely stale. I would not recommend buying MW:3, unless you are really in love with the series. The campaign has turned into something so ridiculous I don't even think the worst Hollywood action movies could out do it, and while the set pieces still bring a slight bit of excitement, it all just feels like I've done this before. The only solid part about the whole thing is that it closes out the series storyline.( I hope, anyway) The multiplayer has some nice tweaks in it and I have to say the co-op is also very well done, but once again, it all feels the same. It's still the corridor, run-n-gun, twitch reflex, no-scope, game. And despite all of the small, and well done tweaks, the game just seems to be all too familiar to keep me interested. I can honestly say that I tried, I played with a bunch of friends, tried to re-light that fire that kept me playing COD:4 for years, but it's just not there anymore. Honestly, I would say this game is worth the rental, especially if you played COD:4, and MW2, just to close out the story. However, I would absolutely not recommend buying MW:3, it's just not worth the money anymore. Expand

Why does it feel like 2002 again. I bought this game with the last $60 of my welfare money, got home, only to find that i had in fact gotten Modern Warfare 2.

I have played MW and battlefield games the past few years. I was excited for both this and bf3. So far I have loved battlefield. I have played this for almost 12 hours and can say I am not a fan. It is the same thing I have played forever, looks and it doesn't even feel as good to play. I would say try it if you like past games but don't get your hopes up. I am trading it on craigslist.

Have been playing MW3 online for a few hours now and it surprised me that a game I wasn't looking forward to, at all, still was able to... disappoint me. Have seen many of the maps and I haven't felt a presence of a classic map. Running makes you wiggle like a drunk duck, reloading is much quicker than switching weapons. Ok, it's quite obvious BF3 fanbies got up early to post their zeros and most of the negative stuff is "it's the same as all the others". It's made hundreds of millions people!!!. Their hardly gonna change such a successful formula. I buy the modern warfare series of COD because I want to have a absolute blast playing a game, and this is no exception.

It's MW2 with worse graphics, smaller/crappier maps, and the speed turned up a few notches. For little kids hopped up on mountain dew to run around and die (with no respawn timer) while screaming profanities. It sucks.

I purchased this game with an open mind. Willing to forgive the previous two debacles if they could only retain what made COD 4 great. Regrettably this failed. The same engine as four years ago, the same formulaic OTT campaign and the same twitch shooting that rewards caffeine fueled twelve year olds and punishes anyone trying to play as a team.

Spend your money on something else.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
