Yawn. It's like paying $60 for a map pack. Don't get me wrong, the story is great, but you can only run in circles shooting other players for so long. MW3 has done nothing more than repackage the same game and provide new maps. I am happy to continue the single player story line, but even there, the same same. I don't think I am being overly to critical as I have bought every single title, map pack, and spent countless hours playing the games. I still bought the game, its just that it gets... old. IW needs to take it to the next level and take the MW game engine up a notch. you can reskin a game for only so long before its just gets old. Expand

The Multiplayer is what most players buy the game for, the chance to link up with friends and have a blast. this hasn't changed, its still enjoyable but there is also so much wrong with it. The levels feel bland and identikit. I'm really disappointed with the multiplayer level design. MW2 levels felt like thought had gone into them. there is 16 multiplayer levels, this makes me think about the saying quality over quantity. The new kill streak system now takes into all players from the excellent to the poor. The poor can choose to allow kill streaks to roll over even after death, but they are not as powerful as the assault kill streak which include your usual AC-130s etc etc. the balance is there but it doesn't make you feel like you have stumbled across something special. MW3 Multiplayer feels old and everything you wanted to change in MW2. Does that make it MW2.5? i on the edge. its tried and tested but after a few hours i feel i'm treading old ground way to often. If i'm honest i didn't expect anything more due to the split in the production but with sledgehammer on board i was hoping they would be able to add something to it and in the end they didn't.

One area i would like to say so far i am enjoying is the single player, yes its your normal set piece after set piece but FPS need that. they are boring without it, look at Medal of honor. after every level i played i felt like i had completed something epic. the story is obviously ridiculous but if you look passed that and play with an open mind, there is no reason why you cant enjoy it. Overall i would say this game is retreading old ground with a few tweaks. A game of this magnitude shouldn't be looking to tweak but reinvent. this release has lowered the stock of the franchise, and allowed its competitors to close in.

The guns sound awful, every time I shot the M4 it made me want to shake my head. The way bad guys get treated in cut scenes will make you smile, but that's about it.

Multiplayer looks and feels like MW2. Hit detection is awful, I can't count how many times the kill cam does not match what happened. Shame on Activision/IW for taking all this money they make and not getting dedicated servers."New" Strike Packages and Maps make it seem different I guess. If you are not tired of CoD, then you will like it. If you've moved on, this will not bring you back.

Personal Opinion: Like CoD4, I bought it for the SP. Unlike CoD4, I was not pleasantly surprised at the MP. MW2 turned me away from the Franchise and toward BFBC2, Black Ops brought me back in for a month until I saw there error of my ways and went back to BC2. Feeling Disappointed in how the Console version of BF3 turned out (I have PC version, too) I was kind of hoping MW3 would reel me back in, but about a couple hours of MP made me realize how tired of this I am, and how good BF3 really is, even on 360. I was actually playing BF3 on 360 the same night MW3 was released.

Best COD since Modern Warfare in 2007. The guns sound excellent , best in the series. The killstreaks are very well balanced. Very fluent gameplay. It doesn't disappoint at all , don't understand the negativity, must be battlefield fans mad that they're game couldn't match up to this.

That being said, the multiplayer has much left to be desired. The maps are tiny and full of NoobTubers. Levels are setup for massive sniping kills (which is fine if you snipe, MOST players don't) and game modes are not impressive.

I don't think it's fair to expect a "whole new gaming experience" from the Modern Warfare series. It's still a Call of Duty game. Why does every expect it to be so different all of a sudden? If you liked MW2, you'll have fun with this game.

Modern Warfare 3 is a great game. Of course the single player is only a few hours long but the multiplayer is greatly improved. There are no more insanely overpowered killstreaks and it actually focuses on the gun on gun fights.

EXACTLY the game I thought it would be. Story's fun for a day, but the Spec Ops and Multiplayer modes are what it's all about. Personally, I skipped MW2 because I was tired of realistic FPS's. Maybe it's because I skipped MW2 that I don't mind MW3 being seemingly the same game. But when it comes down to it, I enjoy my time spent with MW3.

Like has been said many times before, a 60$ map pack. I suppose it was only inevitable that this game would disappoint. It was never going to live up to the hype, without bringing something new and innovative. Sadly, it does neither. Couldn't afford both BF3 and MW3, looks like I made the wrong decision. Going to go trade this thing in and see if I can get a good deal on BF3.

I know it's POPULAR to randomly hate the most popular thing out there. Hell, I'M even in that crowd. However, MW3 does a great job at remembering what it is.....a video game who's purpose is to be engaging, fun, and entertaining above all else. It's a TOTAL package featuring hundreds of hours of gameplay, multitudes of modes for multiplayer gamers, a tight single-player package and loads upon LOADS of unlockable goodies that will keep any gamer with a pulse busy for months on end.

They say the public like to build things up just to break them down, and that old adage holds true here. Modern Warfare 3 is the most popular thing to hate because quite frankly, it's the most popular thing, well.....PERIOD.

The game is extraordinarily well programmed, graphic engine is stellar locked at 60 fps, and it's hard to fault a game that stays close to a formula that quite frankly created what the modern shooter is and does.

Do not let the internet crafty fool you.....a lot of the time the internet nerd world will find a way to hate on something popular in real life. It's the fun thing to do.

This game is FANTASTIC and you would be a fool to rate or believe this game is anything less than an 8 on a bad day. It's technically and superficially an outstanding game that continues to DEFINE this generation of multiplayer excellence.

No game is perfect, so i don't give 10's. I'd knock this game if for only the fact the texture work could be improved in the graphics department and sound design could use a little work.

    Flame on.

The same broken Multiplayer, the same try-hard 4 hour long story, and soon the same overpriced map packs. It is truly a disgrace, the way Activision keeps confirming their greediness, and lack of interest for their customers. This hasn`t bitten them yet, seeing as a lot of COD-players are very, very young. Too young to stand up and say "I will no longer let myself be milked dry like a cow. I will no longer let this company ruin gaming by repackaging the same game over and over again, therefore being a bad example for the rest". And even when the fans are a bit older, they still have ridiculously low standards, considering they like replaying the same broken game, over and over, paying 60 Dollars every year.

Because of this greediness and laziness, COD MW3 deserves a 0, but I`ll give Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games 1 point for the effort.

A big gripe I have on MW3 is the MP maps. It's impossible to go 30 seconds without taking a grenade, getting shot in the back or anything of that nature. I was optimistic when I bought this game thinking they'd be innovative and introduce new features. However, the features they introduced were even more user friendly, every game theres a UAV every minute, helicopter killing you when you walk outside it really dampens the multiplayer experience. There's just so much familiarity even dating back to Call of Duty 4, it gets old so fast. It's a basic expansion pack that shouldnt be charged 60$, its insane to me. I dont see why gamers dont appreciate more innovation rather than more maps, weapons, "killstreak features". I regret buying this game it's the exact same as all the Call of Duty's. Expand

I also don't think the hatred is because of the game either. I think the hatred comes from the fact that 'fanboys' buy the game year in year out without there being much of a change and dismiss the faults that are brought to light by the more casual player of COD which in turn, has created an aura of self confidence/borderline arrogance by activision to not try harder and milk the series for all it's worth.

Honestly when people bring up things like FIFA and games of a like, mainly yearly updates as a reason as to why COD should be defended to the bitter end, it just irritates me that little bit more.

If you measure a game year on year then the amount of changes in the likes of FIFA, GOW, Assassins Creed and Uncharted etc, then you would struggle a little bit in naming them. But if you say, look at the changes in the games over the last 5 years (since MW) then you will see the differences in these games over COD are more prominent.

FIFA 2007 - 2012 - Brand new game engine, impact engine, vast amounts of different shooting mechanics/ Animations, Running, new dribbling system and passing selections and Animations, penalty taking system, Set piece creation, player creation, New leagues/more international teams and you can customise the difficulty in the user settings and CPU settings like passing error, shooting error and goalkeeping ability. The list can go on

Look at Uncharted from 1-3. Each one has a fantastic narrative, challenges, puzzles and characters that you can see in real depth and enjoy. They have online Multiplayer which has improved from UC2 to UC3 and the graphical changes from 1-3 are excellent. List can go on

Assassins creed from 1 through to Brotherhood- Again each story is well thought out although at times a little confusing. Different challenges and side missions/collectables along the way. The also now have multiplayer, which for the best part is getting better and better. New animations and weapons for taking down enemies, different clothing and much improved graphics. List can go on

You compare these to the likes of COD from COD4(MW) to MW3 and really over the past 5 years there isn't much to shout about in terms of changes made. The SP and the story are forgettable in each game, no real characters, Graphics haven't improved that much, neither has the sound quality or player/CPU animations (getting from standing down to prone is abit of a chore). The explosions are pathetic, as are the breaching of buildings (once you've seen one you've seen them all) and the knifing is still the same, just a swipe and then your done. It would be nice to see them actually grappling with the opposition before using the knife, because a swipe across the back won't really do it.

Online, I haven't really played that much but from what someone told me THERE ARE A FEW BUILDINGS ETC THAT HAVE BEEN RECYCLED AND USED BEFORE IN EARLIER INSTALLMENTS. The only thing they've really done to balance the game out is using the killstreaks and perks and no real gameplay changes and even that isn't great. You can still use your overpowered Sniper rifle to "no scope" or "quickscope". Then there is the small and overpriced maps that have little to no real detail in and look more like cardboard cut outs.

Is it because Activision are too insistent on keeping the game at 60fps (they seem to be using this as there main selling point) that they are unwilling to add anything new? or are they just milking it because a lot of people out there will buy it regardless because of the series' reputation from earlier installments?

Either way i'm just glad i've rented, rather than fork out £35-40 for a game that has changed littler over the past 5 years. Its a lazy representation of a franchise that should be going from strength to strength instead, it's stuttering along and milking everything they can out of people. Disgrace.

The Single Player is superb, with every mission revelantly linking to the story as opposed to a series of huge spectacular moments. Its a decent length and keeps your hooked all the way through. Spec Ops is brilliant, it would be nice to play with more than two people but its really great fun none the less. Lots of variety in the missions and plenty of unlocks to keep it replayable.

The multiplayer is more of the same, but refined. Sure there are problems, there are far too many quickscopers as sniper rifles are far too powerful and explosives are completely useless against people with blast shield prop. However the improvements they have made are brilliant, the prestige shop is a welcome feature, the gun leveling system works really well and rewards players who are good players with particular guns.

Overall Modern Warfare is just a fun game to play with friends. If your playing yourself you can still have a good time but the ultimate experience is when you play in a group.

In reality this game is probably a 9. Its a really good game but not perfect. However since the game is being unfairly represented by fanboys and haters I felt it is only fair to try and balance it out slightly a give it a 10.

Anyone else who's looking for innovation or, at the very least having long existing issues addressed should look elsewhere. From the trend established by the past few releases in the series, Modern Warfare 3 is pretty much what I expected - and that's not a good thing.

The single player, briefly, is solid, but not spectacular. If you've played the previous Modern Warfare title's campaign's, you know what to expect - shoot infinite enemies emerging from invisible monster closets until you move to the right trigger point to make them come from another one. Eventually make it to large setpiece explosion/event and repeat. The multiplayer isn't even this good (if we can even use that word).

The multiplayer actually feels like a step backward. The menus are clunky and feel thrown together, but this is just the first hint of crappiness to come. The maps feel like thrown-together paintball arenas rather than locations that would exist in real life. The developers forced obstacles, alleyways and staircases where they don't make sense, just to create more chaos - and not the good kind. Maps feel maze-like, and combined with the random spawn system there is little room for any kind of cohesive, team-oriented strategy. The best case scenerio still ends up being some strange hybrid of free for all and team deathmatch. All too often you find yourself shot in the back by someone who just spawned behind you mere seconds ago, often from an area you though that you'd just cleared. But perhaps the most infuriating aspect of multiplayer is the over performance of the gameplay. In spite of the billions of dollars made on this franchise, Activision refuses to invest in dedicated servers on consoles. This leaves players at the mercy of whatever local host is chosen, and more often than not, it's not pleasant. Lag and shoddy hit detection are not only common, but present the vast majority of the time. There's always at least a few players (if not the entire opposing team) that can survive multiple headshots, 8-12 chest shots or sometimes even have the ability to allow bullets to pass right through them from 2 feet away. On the other hand, enemies kill you around corners, knife you even though the slashed it with their back to you and 3 feet away, or in spite of their near invincibility, you'll find yourself shooting first, hitting (multiple times) first, yet still end up dead via 2 shots to the leg (after yourself registering multiple shots to the body and/or head). The multiplayer is broken, and given that this is the primary reason for purchase for most players, I feel not only disappointed, but ripped off.

The devs also made improvements to the Spec Ops mode which further increases value you are getting for your money. I would recommend this game to anyone who is thinking about getting it. Here's the real deal, if you've played call of Duty MW2, you've pretty much played MW3. That being said, that's not a bad thing. It restores a lot of the tried and true you may have felt was missing from Black Ops (I did not enjoy Black Ops), and ramps up on a lot of interesting small innovative changes. Strike Packages were a brilliant split, being able to assign specific killstreaks for specific builds is everything I ever wanted, and the expansion of weapons, equipment and the like is fantastic. The only thing I'm dissapointed by is the continuation of Extreme Conditioning over Marathon, but I digress.

It may not change the FPS genre or be a game changer, but it builds on what already works and is satisfying to a great degree.

If you have played any COD game, you will know exactly what to expect with MW3 (if it ain't broke don't fix it), and some might think thats a good thing, but it isn't. If you're like me and have put countless hours into COD, you're probably looking for some cool new stuff for MP, some innovative game mode or KSR or something....ANYTHING, but no, basically nothing has changed since the last instalment.

If you have been living in a cave and never played a COD game, then you'll probably enjoy MW3, however if you have played COD before, I can almost guarantee, that the novelty of a few new KSR and guns will ware off pretty quick.

Multi-player lags constantly. Map design is terrible. The guns sound like someone threw a box of cutlery down some stairs, (peeew pheeew rattle rattle pheew) COD Elite, cost the same as the full game, and doesn't work.
Hit detection is so bad its actually funny.
    Bullets can turn corners apparently.
Health seems to be 75% of what it was in every other COD game.
Shotguns are a two shot kill from point blank range.

IW's answer to zombies, is survival mode, and its not a patch on zombies.

I honestly wanted this to be a great game. COD4 was excellent, MW2 was frustrating at best, so I was hoping they would have learned something from that and make MW3 as close to COD4 as possible with improved graphics and a different engine. Nope

I didn't think COD could get any worse than BlackOp's, and sadly I was wrong.

If you have played COD before, then this game is not even worth renting, If you have never played COD before, rent it, you might enjoy it for a few hours.

I have to say that i was skeptical after playing b.ops that this would suck just as bad but i was surprised. This is where gamers and haters go they're separate ways. The graphics and sound just blew me away, i almost fell back in disbelief that it was mw3. Yes i have played bf and all previous cod, like i said gamers/haters. The story has me hooked, up until the mrs. asks if she can join, then it's back to spec op. Which brings me to another point, the mission are both fun and challenging if you're looking for the 3star glory, even after they have been obtained, but the survival mode is ADDICTIVE. All it's lacking is 4 player capability. On line a shooter is a shooter, but as i said before, wars aren't just fought by ground troops, and you should be able to hide in the bushes not just beside them. The only thing negative I will say is that this definitely is not a significant leap from mw2 or black ops. 2 years of development on the game and it feels like a 1 year patch. Damn this game sucks.. It's like you're playing cod4 lol!.. Every year a new COD but they are always 100% the same.. Same old engine.. What did they change? Add some perks? wow great.. It's like they released a big map pack.. They should go build a new engine, and make a NEW game..

The campaign is forgettable, the tweener modes offer little, but the MP, which is where CoD should shine is truly awful. Not only has IW made the same mistakes as with MW2, they've compounded them. More game dominating killstreaks on even smaller, more cluttered maps. An FPS should be dominated by first person shooting, not an endless rain of remote control death from the sky.

Spec Ops is boring, though I will light a match for survival mode as this is where the bulk of my play has been since launch. Despite this, other games have just accomplished this better, such as Gears of War 3. The Call of Duty franchise is just a dying old man in the care-home of the gaming world. Its about time it was put out of its misery, and stopped entertaining chavs and bringing them into our gaming communities. I solely blame Infinity Ward and Treyarch for sealing the FPS genre in a fun-proof coffin. We can only hope that the guys at Valve can use a crowbar to pry it the genre out with Half-Life 3. Expand

To the detractors of the COD series I say this: "Haters gon' hate..." I've played BF3, which I do appreciate... however the single player experience is EXTREMELY ho-hum, not to mention about 4-5 hours shorter than CODMW3 (Just like EA's MOH) - although the multiplayer is amazing. But you really can't fairly compare BF3 and COD's MP because they're two different animals and both great. Why can't a person like both? The first 4 hours of play I just didn't feel the excitement I usually get when I start a new cod game.
The graphics are pleasing to look at but you can tell we are now reaching the limits of the current consoles capabilities.there are a lot of blocky textures and most Walls for example look very plain and not unweathered.Close ups of vehicles reveal things like door lines looking like they were drawn by hand with a felt tip pen and no ruler.
The disappointing part for me was checking out all the maps.On the plus side we have sixteen of them which is quite generous, but I found it hard to remember them by name as most of them look very similar to each other.
The only map that stood out for me is village. It is a medium size map that looks vibrant and is laid out in a way that would keep most types of class happy. The rest however are small and with nothing but lots of close quarters combat. This suits my style of play but the days of kicking back for a relaxing sniper session are gone.
A nice small addition is the prestige shop.if you prestiged in other cod's you receive a token for each game.there are some genuinely useful things here like receiving double xp for 2 hours, buy an extra class and even a total stat reset.
Connection wise it's business as usual, with a lot of laggy lobbies. You will often fire at someone only for them to kill you, then on their screen you won't have fired a single shot. But when in a good lobby it flows well. You shouldn't however expect the lag to improve as time goes by as it is what it is,and if we were going to get a lag free cod it would have happened by now. It's not worse than the last 2 games though. In my opinion world at war worked the best for me as I found keeping the search set to local gave me a good connection most of the time.
I can't comment on the single player as I haven't played through it yet but going on what most people have said it looks pretty good and I look forward to playing it.
I honestly think most of us,me included have been expecting to much to come from mw3 and therefore feel disappointed, and in some ways rightly so.I also understand why the reviews were held back until launch day.
Another thing worth thinking about is had they changed the game dramatically to try and make the game different they could have ruined it and it's probably too much of a risk.
What we have here then is just another shooter and they have just played it safe.Die hard fans like me with still hammer the game through multiplayer but it's no secret that most are a bit disappointed with it.

I decided to write this review because one of the developers have asked us,the public on ign to come on here as they feel the overall user score is very low and they want people to be honest. So here it is,my personal opinion,a 7 out of 10.

The kill-streaks are overrated, giving you a small chance to get ONE kill before by getting 5 kills or, the most advanced one, 18. Which secures you about 2 kills because everyone is lagging in and out of buildings. Even getting a killstreak doesnt secure you a kill. If MW3 released in 2006 it would be good, but for today's standards it just shows the lack of effort on Activision's part. I am really disappointed. We as gamers need to ask more from the companies we support. With the release of MW3 I lost the respect I had for Activision. The leveling system is a nice change and the guns seem to have a better natural progression as you get the higher level ones but the maps are so tight and the game paced so quickly that SMGs seem to be the weapon of choice for most people. Quick-scoping is back and better than ever to appeal to the 11 year olds, noob tubing got the nerf bat along with all explosives, grenade kills are way harder to come by even if you're practically sitting on the grenade. The engine at a whole feels dated and although I'm not a stickler for graphics there doesn't seem much of an improvement here. The game as a whole feels uninspired and dated, and can get extremely frustrating, especially when out of 16 or so maps, you only look forward to playing 3 or 4 at most. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
