This game deserves every poor review given to it. Presentation - Single Player story less than 4 hours. Menus and interface are copy and pasted from MW2.

Graphics - So bad it has to be a joke. Notice that the TV advertisement with the fat superbad guy and the avatar guy had no in-game footage? Yeah because it really is that embarassing. Multiplayer - No ranked dedicated servers. Bad

Multiplayer - No ranked dedicated servers. Bad crowded map designs, imbalanced guns, camping and hip shots are encouraged. Sound - Worst and most cheesy score yet. Replay value - It took only 30 mins to realise that the experience would exactly be the same. Recycled prestige system. Meaningless leaderboards. Activision better leave Starcraft II and Diablo alone. They may know how to make money off of idiots but they have not a glue anymore how to make a good quality game.

All I can say is WOW. I have never been as disappointed with a game release as I am with MW3. It's same thing we've seen over and over. Little to no innovation at all! Maps are terrible since you can be spawned killed anytime. The A.I. is terrible. You can stand in the middle of a firefight and they completely ignore you while you take their buddies out. Apparently "hard scoping" is trash since their are no maps for sniping because they built the maps catering off the new fad quick scoping. Ridiculous amount of auto aim with little to no recoil on the weapons. Gun models have improved but still look like you are carrying a 2d weapon. Lag is terrible in this game. Even with great internet you will still lag since you rely on the hosts connection. You would think with all the money being made off of milking this title they can afford dedicated servers. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be honest, the graphics of this game are really disgusting. When you have a franchise that make as much money as COD, you owe your fans to improve the game ever after when you release a FULL game. Players shouldn't have an impression of "deja vu". When you play a game, you want a fresh new experience, innovations, something catchy that will make you hold to it for a long time. This game does not fulfill my expectations of what a good game is. Markating my friend, is what make this game live nowadays. For me, and apparently for alot of people, Cod era is revolved. Let's move on to something new, something good. Expand

I love developers trying to brand this as review bombing. Maybe it's the fact that people realize they are being milked for their money? This is by no means a bad game, it's the SAME game. The same game as Call of Duty 4. Removing the **** that was in Modern Warfare 2 isn't some kind of achievement or renovation, it's what should have been a patch 2 years ago. Modern Warfare 3 is fun. So is Call of Duty 4. Stop releasing a new one every year and subsequently destroying the player base of the previous game. If you want to release a new one, make actual improvements to the gameplay. Maybe invest in the new iDtech engine because we all know you have been using iDtech 3 every year and branding it as your own. Twelve months ago, the CEO of Activision, who was bred in a test tube with fertilisation donations from the risen ghost of hitler, called for another game to lengthen the turgid slick of mediocrity that is Call of Duty. Featuring another uninspired campaign of betrayal, shooting foreigners, on rails gunning, and controversy, (think car bombs in London and twelve year old girls) interspersed with witless dialogue and explosions that appeal to the lowest common denominator, this game can only be described as terrible.

It seems no effort was made to make a good game. The graphics are poor in comparison to well made recently released games that will cost you the same amount of money, the campaign is a recycled version of the last 4 years worth of call of duty's. The multiplayer is EXACTLY the same as every other game in the series, but with a collection of new, poorly concieved maps and ideas to create weapon imbalance. In short this game's only redeeming feature is that if you put it in the microwave on high, I believe it will crackle up in a small light show.

Don't get Modern warfare 3, you worked too hard for that money, and you don't want to encourage that lazy bunch of developers. It seems the most effort they made with this game was to beg for people to overlook the lack of quality and give the game a good review. This is a company that had a press release with one of their Modern Warfare 2 map packs, stating that a price rise from the usual 800 MSP per map pack, to 1200 MSP, is in the interests of consumers. Stay away from this game, I have it on good advice that it is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, gathering strength with every sale.

Important note: The game features a car bombing in London, and, while I'm all for poorly timed walks of the dangerous knife edge that is taste and decency, capitilising on devastating terrorist attacks to create the illusion of storyline and plot, and to generate anger out of teenage boys, it must be noted that the scene is handled with the sensitivity and delicacy of a drug mule's full cavity search at an Indonesian airport. Also PARIS LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THAT!! The furthest the developers must have gone in their 'research' was the McDonald's nearest to the 'development' 'studio' , while their MW2 disks had the 3's printed over.

The developers sank as low as to beg for good reviews (absolutely shameless) - originally the user score sat at less than 2.5 - now, sadly, it is rising because of the flock of sheep that follow the developer around blindly. It is not worth 3.

The Call of duty series as a whole has been disgustingly bad since modern warfare one, but this game takes the cake. There hasn't been a single FPS since Halo one that had any legitimate innovation. The fact that this was even released boggles the mind. This game is a clone of every other modern call of duty, with some new textures, different maps, and a different yet equally terrible campaign. The online mode is exactly the same, why would anybody even buy this if they can get the exact same experience in that pile of unimaginative bland shooters that they already own?

Call of Duty tries it best to be something it's not, a good game, but unfortunately falls short in almost every way imaginable. Skip this one at all costs. And before you think about Battle Field 3, that's the EXACT same thing with even more automation.

MW2 was my first console FPS, and I fell in love with it. After a while though, the online play became more stressful than fun. Quickscoping, One-Man-Army and Marathon/Commando made it feel like I was being punished for wanting to enjoy myself. A year later Black Ops arrived...I was still playing it until the night I purchased MW3. My only issue with Black Ops was the gun imbalance (Famas/Aug/AK74u) and hit random detection, otherwise a fantastic multiplayer game. So here I am with MW3. Unlike BOPS, I'm already getting tired of it... for the wrong reasons. What everyone has said is true, it is MW2 with a couple new perks/weps/maps. ISSUE 1: The largest problem with the game, IMO is the spawn system in relation to the maps.
The maps are much smaller than MW2/BOPS, and there are multiple ways to travel to a location (great for anti-campers) but this to me is its largest downfall. All the maps have so many turns, routes and drops that when you spawn there is almost an enemy near you at all times. Going for that Assault killstreak? Looking back at the MW2 and COD4 maps they were mostly all classic maps offering a variety of gameplay where you could either keep to the indoor rooms and corridors with a shotgun or SMG or plot up on a balcony with a sniper rifle and a claymore, there would only be a couple maps in each game that no one liked and each one had its own character. I'll give this game a 6 because it still basically has the same gameplay mechanics that made COD4 the near perfect game that it was but it is not higher due to the fact that COD4, MW2 and BF3 do exist and we were all hoping for the stakes to be raised. The story is just completely awful s everything else, including the blurry graphics.
I would not recommend anyone to get this game. Better spend your money on The new Batman game, Gears of War 3 or Uncharted 3.

More like Modern Warefare 2 expansion. Jumping into the single player feels just like you've been here before. Nothing fresh which you would hope to expect. The graphics are not an improvement at all.
Jumping into multiplayer will make you want to jump out once the attack helicopters start coming every second.

Just rented it, to test it out, and it's just the same old crap. Nothing original. Just trying to ride out the money train. Campaign is the same monotonous, "kill generic bad guys to get to the next scripted event", garbage. You can just play any other modern warfare to get the same multiplayer.

MW3 is lacking in a couple areas that make this game not even enjoyable for me. The problems for me are the overall pace of the multiplayer experience, the layout of the maps, and the idea that adding more non essential filler to the multiplayer experience.

Over the last couple of days I have had no good or special feeling about any one of the multiplayer maps over another one. It is shocking to me that all the maps seem to be uninteresting at best. I challenge you to go through the maps and compare them against the COD4 map set. You will be astonished, no doubt, that COD4 offers a much more distinct feeling to each map. Each one feels fun and the combat flows differently in each map. I made sure this was not just a feeling of nostalgia by going back and reviewing each map and even playing COD4. MW3 maps all seem to be almost forcing some sort of "meta" which some have said kills sniper or long range play. I agree for the most part, there is no epic sense of a level, they feel all the same cluttered mess of non interesting set pieces. Ever since COD4 (which I still believe was the top of the franchise to date) map levels and layouts have gone downhill.

The pace of the maps (what I consider to be a result of bad spawning and map layout) is even higher than that of MW2. Yes, some may love this run and gun, turning corners, firing from the hip, and quick scoping. I don't mind this play in any sense. It is the fact that you do not have the option of diverting from this forced game play other than camping. This I feel will calm down as we get to be more familiar with maps and the spawns, yet judging and looking to the future based of the maps and my experience so far, I see it being an issue, even if a fraction of what it is currently. Think about COD4, W@W, or even MW2 to a degree. Many, even a majority, of the maps had a distinct layout to them that suggested key points, buildings, or start points. Like in paintball, or most competitive events, you know what you are going against and how to set up strategies to be successful. I feel, and this is my opinion, that every where you go, there is a corner or something blocking you forward progression, in order to force CQC. Almost every area has more than one flanking route. Add this on top of small and/or cluttered maps with crazy spawn mechanics, well you get the picture.

Ok, this last issue is more of a rant and not a game breaker to me. Never the less I will address my opinion on it. Every COD that comes out is almost entirely focused on being "crazier" than the last. Look at the progression of kills and customization that has ensued since the game breaking COD4. It started with the set kill streaks, and guns that unlocked. Now it is at three sets of customized kill streaks going 15+ on kill streaks, with so many ways to level up etc. Many point this out as the reason for it being justified as a new experience worthy of the retail box+price. In my humble and honest opinion, I don't care about nonsense like this. I loved COD4 for the epic team battles, diverse levels, and over sense of excitement. Yes kill streaks were part of that equation, but they were not any way the meat and potatoes of it. I feel like they add and add but forgot where they came from in this endeavor. My opinion.

All in all, this is why I feel like MW3 is a letdown to say the very least. More so, I feel it deserves a 7.5 at the best, although realistically I would give it a 6. Being, not only is it nothing new, but I feel (emphasis on my opinion) that it has brought it self down an extra notch for trying to force maps and dump endless customization as compensation for lack of innovation. I will still play it and enjoy it for what it IS. I will give it a couple weeks for it to set in, but this is the first game in the series that has cause me so much disappointment to actually post online. :) If my experience goes on like it is currently, then I will go back to a prior COD game, hence the 6.

My credentials as a gamer: Played since pre-Nintendo. FPS shooters include but not limited to Golden Eye, All COD series owned and played. Played BF since 1942, Had epic COD 2 and 3 and Halo LAN Matches at my house. Love CS, team fortress, DoD, and many other HL mods. Played Planet Side since launch. Original Op Flashpoint and AA. Actually, pardon me, this isn't a map pack. Oh no, this is "much more than that." This game features an incredibly lengthy single player mode that can be beaten in a little over 5 hours! Wow! The game also has the returning Spec Ops mode that is no where near as addicting as Black Ops Zombie mode, and, let's not forget, the multiplayer mode.

Did you enjoy the perks, level-up system, and guns of the previous Call of Duty games? Well, they're back, and just the same as ever. No innovation has been brought to the plate this time, and Infinity Ward has opted to go with the good 'ol "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. The maps are all incredibly small, some of which are comparable in size to a backyard. The maps encourage camping and lack the epic scope that other FPS multiplayer maps offer.

But you know what? Infinity Ward should be commended for creating the CoD Elite system, where you can keep track of your various stats from previous matches you partook in. This is CLEARLY an innovative system that not many FPS' offer nowadays (*cough* Halo and Battlefield *cough*). Not only that, but you can also choose to give Infinity Ward your credit card information so you can get each map pack released within the next 12 months! This is obviously a sweet deal, since each map pack will cost $15 anyways if purchased separately. And each map pack will contain 4-5 shallow maps that don't encourage any new tactics different from the maps that come included with the game.

So all this for only #60? Why, it's a steal! It's not like I've already played this SAME EXACT GAME twice before already! Infinity Ward obviously spent the past two years crafting the best multiplayer FPS available. It's not innovative, it's repetitive, it doesn't reward clever tactics, and it offers an extremely shallow single player mode. BUT! It has multiplayer, complete with lag, hit-detection issues, and overpowered guns! What more could a pre-pubescent 13 year old boy ask for this Christmas?

First of all, the graphics have undergone zero improvement, and that includes all the killstreak icons, in-game text and HUD. The menus and screens are all the same, and the whole multilayer experience lacks any real innovation. Okay, so they added Strike Packages, some weapons, and the weapon levelling system, but that really is about it. From the main menu with the traditional 3 rectangular options to the lobbies, nothing is new. Even the voices of triumph or defeat are the same words in a slightly different accent.

Multiplayer games are incredibly laggy and unrefined; sprinting is quite a task, especially when you wobble around, and the dolphin dive in Black Ops doesn't make feature in this title, which is sad.

The campaign is phenomenal, but again, the standard graphics we've become used to mean there's always something missing. It's the typical formula of CoD titles since World at War, and once more, lacks any real innovation.

Spec Ops includes the new survival mode, which is as limited as it is boring. Only two players can play together, and it's repetitive and no way near as entertaining as the Zombies in Treyarch's titles. In summary, MW3 is a good buy, but don't expect much difference from MW2. Black Ops is still personally my favourite title, what with the Zombies, COD points and huge customisation potential.

Everyone is going to have their own personal opinion of this game. My opinion is it looks way mors advancedthan Modern Warfare 2 doesn' feel like a rehash of an old game at all. It's multiplayer feels smoother and more robust than Black ops. The game is fun and enjoyableso I give it a 10 for that. Modern Warfare 3 is excellent and both single player and multiplayer should be tried by all serious first person shooter fans. Expand

Call of Duty failed this year, not because it is a bad game, but because it doesn't deliver any inovation. The Call of Duty series needs to follow the Battlefield example and stay out of the market for some years, and renovate the franchise... That said, I have no choice but to give a low "grade"... Call of Duty just failed the year.

The game has the same admirable high production values that the previous games in the series have, and there is plenty of improvements and refinements in the overall package, but it seems developer activision is satisfied only with replicating nearly the same content the other modern warfare games contained and while this should be enough to please hardcore fans of the series that are willing to accept what i would call an expensive expansion, mw3 should not be highly praised for only having high production values and doing the same thing over and over again. If it were the first installment in the modern warfare series, the effort here would have been highly praised in my regard, but with this third iteration it all feels much too similar. Expand

There are way too many haters on this site. This game is definetley not bad. This game is so much fun. People have to calm down and enjoy it for what it is, A VIDEO GAME. 9/10 is my real score but these user reviews are getting me mad.

Best COD ever! This game is not just better than black ops, it annihaltes everything about it. MW3 takes the COD formula and redefines it with amazing tweaks and the amazing integration of elite. This is a must buy for any shooter fan.

Definitely exceeded my expectations. The only thing I would like to see is a 4 player co-op mode. Special ops is fun and all, but a 4 player survival mode would have been a welcome addition. Not a big fan of the heart beat sensor either.

I've logged several hours into Modern Warfare 3 and could not be more disappointed. This product should have been titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.5. So little has been altered from the previous installments that I actually have a hard time pinpointing the changes. I see no reason to purchase this game at $60 and would not recommend this to anyone.

This game is horrible, you cant even create ranked custom games so that you can farm xp with your friends then be 12 years old and camp in corners and just win all day. How dumb. Also guys have guns and shoot at you, I need a game where the other players can't shoot back because I'm pretty bad.

Complete joke. So glad that there are still real games around like Battlefield 3. I can't believe someone thought this would be a good game to release.

the argument of iteration vs innovation is a valid one - at the end of the day, both are worthwhile pursuits, and it's clear that activision is playing it a little safe by introducing small changes (my favorite being the ability to level up guns) rather than introducing drastic overhauls. the original MW game was such a huge breakthrough you can hardly blame them for sticking close to it's playbook, but that said, if you didn't like it then you're not going to like it now. but for those of us who enjoy it, MW3 is just about what we'd hoped it'd be.

I love it ! Its exactly what you expect after MW2. I only buy the IW Titles, and this one never let me down. My friends and i playing the MP for hours and its even more fun than the campaign. The only complain is, there is no Hans Zimmer music... Hope that MW4 will have Hans back!

I remember a time when in order to get a score of 8 and up a game had to bring innovation from the past titles in the series. Nowadays all you need to do is slap a Call of Duty title on it and reuse as many resources as you can from the past games.

If you want to be out 80 dollars and left with a feeling of disappointment when you realize all you did was buy an MW2 expansion pack then go

This is the best call of duty to date. I took a week vacation to log so long hours. It will not be long enough. The game rocks in every aspect, it you like call of duty or 1st persons shooters, do not miss this game, it is an incredible experience. Answer the call, you will not be sorry.

Really this game is Moder Warfere "3"; I cant believe its another game. It feels too much like MW2 DLC. The gameplay is equal, the history is very "cliche" and predictable, and the multiplayer is the same of the last 4 games... really? I think this "Call of Duty" will die like "Guitar Hero". I will save in my memory CoD 2 and 4. The others are only DLCs with a full-game cost.

I think the multiplayer is better than MW2, and the maps are varied enough to warrant buying this one. I think many are overly critical of this game. I think the Elite helps it out too, more than just getting everyones money. The weapon leveling system is good too, and Special Ops puts it over the top when you dont feel like playing multiplayer.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
