You cant clear an area and then feel confident the enemies will be ahead of you they will just spawn behind you and come at you from one of 6 different angles. Activision shouldn't have been greedy and fired the people that made these games good. I wont be buying another COD game until something drastic changes. Expand

Modern Warfare 2, for all its faults, was a great game. A slightly newer, repackaged version of Modern Warfare 2 that arrives several years after its predecessor is, however, not a great game. A slightly newer, repackaged version of Modern Warfare 2 that arrives several years after its predecessor is, however, not a great game. I've never been quite so disappointed with a game whose arrival I anticipated so greatly. Campaign is linear and repetitive; the plot is murky, absurd, and seems as if it was crafted by Michael Bay's evil, slightly less competent twin. Devices that were innovative one-offs in the previous game, like door breaching or crash/explosion cinematics, are overused to the point that it becomes obvious the team that made the game is content with maintaining the status quo. On top of that, the campaign clocked in at less than 4 hours on the regular setting. That wouldn't bother me too much if the multiplayer was rock-solid, though, because that's been the main attraction for the series. That's simply not the case, however. Bullet lag is the worst of any recent game I've played. Weapon balance seems to have been thrown out and replaced with the strategy of "let's make everything as powerful as possible." Maps are amorphous and prohibitive to actual team strategy. Menus are identical, and perhaps even murkier than the previous iteration in the series. New killstreak packages are a nice touch, and perk balancing was an absolute necessity that they thankfully worked out. But when seen as a whole, the greatest new addition is Elite, a glorified stat tracker that costs sixty dollars on top of your existing Live subscription. Given my level of frustration and disappointment with this game, I feel a four is generous. I won't be buying back into the series again, or at least until they give it the inevitable reboot. It's sad to see a company like Activision run a once-proud brand into the ground like this for profits. Expand

If there is a good reason why it is only a 1, it is clear. This game shows how much a company can recycle and hopes for a good sale. No innovation, 3 hours single player. it's a game that lived upon the success of CoD4, except that it has already been done once, MW2.

This feels like a rehash of a game that has been sold under different names, over and over again. A 5 hour campaign, different maps, slightly different guns and perks sounds like DLC to me - however being sold at the full retail value of a new game. No thanks.

This game is everything I was hoping for and more. The campaign is great but the multiplayer is where is truly shines. Not sure what's up with all the negative reviews - this seems really fishy to me - perhaps some disgruntled Battlefield3 fans. Anyways, this game is a must have. Enjoy.

TThis game is terrible it takes absolutely no skill to kill the enemy, the spawning is the worst in the history of FPS, i paid 64.99 to have a alternative to battlefield 3, because I like the run and gun style, but from the outdated graphics, the outdated UI, the countless children, and the complete lack of innovation, this game has become a credit for skyrim...

The Campaign is short, but the story is still really good. It helps introduce the variable weapon types and game play needed to get players ready for online play. The changes to the online class customization, support options and ladder ranking is really solid. All around great sequel to MW2.

Although there's nothing "groundbreaking" about the multiplayer, it stays true to what makes Call of Duty great. Hundreds of unlocks, weapon personalization, and customizing your soldier's load outs to fit your play style, thus integrating different people into the series, with a greater chance of success. The campaign was (as usual) action-packed, and enjoyable (albeit short).

I was looking for everything I liked about MW2 but with more content - which I think was aptly delivered. The perks are well balanced, a solid selection of weapons, corrected weapon ranges (no more Uzi kills from across the map), much improved killstreak system, addition of weapon proficiencies, and better selection of equipment. The only negatives I have found are that since 3 of the assault rifles are built off the same platform, many of the weapons look the same (though they perform much differently). Also compared to MW2 many of the maps of MW3 are very cluttered which isn't necessarily a bad thing but will effect your overall style of play. Bottom line: If you like MW2, you will like this game. In general it is a good quality game - though basically the same as the previous ones. The biggest problem continues to be the XBOX live play. It suffers from individual connection speed. If you have a top notch internet provider you reign supreme. But for the rest of us it is rather dissatisfying since you are killed even before you see your opponent!

I hold out a lil hope that there will be at least a map pack that includes mw2 maps, which were quite fun to play. I dont know if it is because of the infancy of the game or what but the connection issues are disturbing and really disappointing. Again, MW2 seemed to be so smooth compared to these last two. If this game-play could have been added to the MW2 maps and servers/matchmaking/etc i think it would have been a home run, however we are left a lil disappointed once again. The singleplayer story is part of what I loved about the first 2 games, but in this one, they just copy what seemed to be awesome in the other games and hope that it's as effective here. What ends up happening is formulaic levels with absolutely no emotional involvement because you've seen it all before, not only in the previous games, but in the level you just played. The story is garbage and doesn't invest you in the characters like the previous games did. The multiplayer seems like an exact copy/paste except without good maps, class balancing, or meaningful gameplay. It seems as though no real thought was put into this game other than putting as much stuff in it as possible without thinking how it would affect the experience. The maps are small, unorganized, and frustrating to manoeuver compared to the maps in MW2 which had a good layout with strategic points that worked well with all gamemodes. Even after a few hours of playing online trying to force myself to get used to it and enjoy it, I still couldn't seem to like it. CoD has consumed my gaming time for the past few years so I feel comfortable with making the following statements. The number one problem with the state of the Mp is the spawns. Hands down. I have had people spawned right in from of me into MY crosshairs! I have had the same happen to me but the other way around. I have had people spawned 5 feet away from me behind a corner. It's all part of CoD's 'payback' system. It's horrid. The spawn problems are amplified ten fold in objective based gametypes to boot. The maps are a little on the smallish side so this also makes the spawns seem even worse. I like a lot of the maps, I dont mind the smaller sizes, yet the smaller sizes combined with the spawns just make this MP nigh unplayable.

A lot of people will say"You cant sit in a corner with assassin and a silencer noob", I'm a rusher at heart and I run around while I run and gun and STILL get people spawned mere feet away from me. Sometimes they spawn in front of me for a easy kill, and I literally LOL. In that moment it was awesome for me and builds my KS, yet soon enough (mere seconds/mins) it will happen to me. Overall, the MP is indeed fun for the most part, but when 9 out of 10 deaths is from getting shot in the back or the side, it really takes away from the fun.

Activision didn't invest any money since CoD 2 to develop new engine (Yes Since CoD 2 its the same engine slightly modified), they managed to improve it up to CoD 4 but then they reached limit of it. Did they bother to develop new one? No. Since that time nothing changed. Same animations of characters, weapons and look of maps. They are trying to blind us through doing stuff like replacing zombies with 2 player co-op, new game mode and few new weapons model, but that's all. If you are going to get that game prepare for disappointment. Activision managed to sink all the way to the bottom of the sea one of the best FPS series in history of video games - Well done! From the king to the street beggar. I think it's time for CoD to retire for couple of years and come up with something new. Single player - stopping WW3 sounds great, you have the same characters (that didn't die) from previous version of MW. Map design is simple - get from point A to point B. Don't worry you won't get lost on the way. Guess why... CoD1 offered several different paths to reach objective and that's what should be restored! I don't care about fancy explosions!

Multiplayer - its just map pack for MW2.

Conclusion? Get different game because this one is worth only half of it's current price...

If it ain't broke don't fix it! That seems to be the COD way, and it works extremely well! Love The Single player campaign, Multiplayer is even better with Kill Confirmed mode, and I like that that feature was added to Ground War. Spec ops is addictive, and the Survival Mode proves that. Great Job!

This game shows how Activision runs every title it can into the ground for money. By the by, if you're looking forward to the DLC map packs in the future, they're already on the disc but they're just going to make you pay to activate them. Squeezing every last ounce of profit from a good franchise, what a disgrace.

This game came out in 2007 ... why is it just being reviewed now? I'm surprised it took them 4 years to release a patch that includes: more balanced MP, a big map pack, and faster frame rates. Spec ops is great. The rest is a regurgitation.

You don't have to run miles to get shot out of nowhere like in BF3. While I like MW3, I am disappointed that the story/campaign isn't like the old CoD games...the ones for PC. Those games had a great story, a difficult campaign, and excellent multiplayer. These days it seems like the game developers have to water everything down so the "casual" gamer can feel good about themselves.

They really don't care about the quality of the game, but rather the quantity of releases. Already they have set a standard for over priced DLC and little effort in yearly releases, which is hurting the gaming industry at large. The game might be fun when you initially play it, but you soon realize it is almost a direct copy and paste of the previous MW games (literally, they've taken the same textures, sounds, EVEN whole buildings from CoD4 and MW2.

At least MW1 to MW2 had a respectable amount of content added. This game is definitely not worth $60 and should have instead been released as $30. Unfortunately Activision has no plans of ever doing that considering people are eating these games yearly. What that little kid at Gamestop and his mother don't understand is the industry, specifically the consumers, are being negatively impacted by this (for the lack of better words) BS of yearly "$60 map packs."

Also, why is this game still using a peer-to-peer form of multiplayer? Instead of hiring Kayne West to CoD XP, they could have easily added dedicated servers and probably saved a million dollars. Thanks, but no thanks, Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward and Activision.

To call this game MW2.5 is generous it is MW1 w/ a different cover, a 3 in the title, a couple of re-skinned guns and some new modes that don't even have matchmaking. I'm glad I had the sense to only rent it, too bad the same couldn't be said for the 9 million people who blindly handed their money over to the devs on day one, you people just bought Call of Duty Modern Warfare...AGAIN. Not sure why I thought this would be not just be the same recycled engine from the last 2 years... Activision must be taking notes from Apple and just releasing products that are "slight" improvements over the previous and charging full price for it.

This is the same exact game from two years ago. Aside from the graphics being a little but better from black ops if not identical the multiplayer is exactly the same. When it comes down to it you are buying another Call of Duty game that is exactly like a Call of Duty game.

The gameplay is as great as it has always been with a fast and frenzied play style. The single player is enjoyable if like other COD's even though you'll probably forget about it not long after you've played. The Multiplayer like always is where it's at and like other Call of Duty's it's a blast. My only real complaint is that not enough is new in this installment and almost not deserving of the 3 as this feels like an expansion rather then a new game. If you love COD buy this if not, go troll some other game that you obviously spent no real time on and went in with a complete bias against it. Expand

The game is great. I have completed campaign and love multiplayer. I don't see why people having been rating the game so badly it is a definite step up to Black Ops where I found my self only playing when I had friends over to play zombies or total boredom had struck me. 10/10

MW3 was clearly a 60 dollar mappack to MW2 and it borrowed heavily from Black Ops. It's great in it's own right- the fact that people would annually dish out 60 dollars for the same rehashed game, and, all in all, it is good, basic, arcade fun. It will sell over 10 million. It's easily accessible, and that is its strength. If you want a newer version of COD4 (basically more sh!t to use)MW3 was clearly a 60 dollar mappack to MW2 and it borrowed heavily from Black Ops. If you are a console gamer, the only reason to buy Modern Warfare 3 is because no one is playing the previous iterations anymore. If you are a PC gamer, you still play COD4 so there is no reason to buy it.

The game looks great a needed but small facelift. The campaign storyline is quite complex and if not paying attention you may miss some info but all in all a great finish with the beloved cpt price and soap. The game is worth the money and does not dissapoint, for new players I would suggest you take your time online and learn strategies and be ready to change up your style of play if a camper or wall sitter. Great to be back with IW after yet another one of Treyarchs multi-player travesties (I loved it when the guy I was shooting in Black Ops would turn around after soaking up have a clip and kill me).
The single player is exactly what you would expect it to be, but the familiar locales (NY, London, Paris, Hamburg, etc..) add a poignancy that has been lacking. COD is what it is, if you bought this you knew what you were getting. I get the feeling that these negative reviewers would go to Burger King and complain that there were too many Burgers on the menu.

The maps have no direction and just seem like they've been thrown together. The hit detection is extremely horrible. Explosions have been nerfed, quick scoping has returned for what seems like the target age range for this game 8-12 year olds. I have had this game for 3 days and have 1 hour multiplayer play time because I am so disgusted with it. If you want an amazing first person shooter that is realistic and extremely fun to play, go pick up Battlefield 3 and let this game collect dust on the store shelves. Expand

Still unbalanced mess with all the perks and killstreaks... remove all of those and the leveling... tight and focused gameplay please... Visuals are really bland and reused from MW2 and the campaign is average at some points.

People knew it's CoD and wasn't going to change much yet still going to complain, in the end it's your fault for hyping yourself up so much it is fun though.
For everyone saying its the same as MW2, what do you think a sequel is? Most sequels are like the previous game. The call of duty series is for more fast pace action where battlefield is for more strategic spaced out action. The

Played this game for an hour and realized it was just Modern Warfare 2.5. If you are under the age of 12 and looking for a ADD twitch shooter this is the game for. This game has no learning curve and is not a competitive shooter by any means.

I am a call of duty vet. I have played every call of duty game ever made and this one is the most different. I feel that the hit boxes are a little off when the game lags, survival mode could have included more killstreaks (i.e. AC 130 or Chopper gunner), and the single players was WAY TO SHORT. Also, I feel that in the process of trying to make the game more balanced, the developers removed what made call of duty great: Capitalism. The concept of providing those who generate kills with the ability to acquire more kills is what made call of duty great. That is what kill streaks were made for. However, the developers took a capitalistic reward structure and made it socialist. Now, has my KD or win ratio been affected? no but it does upset me to see a kid who has only 1 kill call in an airdrop. I do feel that the changes made though provide for a different game, one that I do not like. With all that said, I still play it religiously and will continue to until the new call of duty launches next year or when Respawn Interactive drops their new title. Welcome to the first digital FPS monopoly. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
