I truly feel betrayed by this title. I have bought every single cod game since it first came out and always wanted the special edition xbox for it.I finally felt like it was time and WOW, I am the proud owner of the special edition xbox of the worst call of duty I ever played. To make things worst I also bought CallofDuty Elite. I hope I can get my money back at least for the xbox.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't understand why everyone is slapping down this game? It's a great way to end the story. I tried playing battlefield 3 and it was lacking. We picked up in MW3 right after Soap got stabbed. You then play as Yuri, one of Makarovs men turned to Price and Soaps team after he was shot by Makarov at the Airport mission before you go mow down half of Moscow. You discover this after (Spoiler) the death of Soap. The story is well thought out, the play is typical, however well known, and if you don't give this game an honest look and play, you are missing out. And please, do not judge this game on my words or of the other people who have given a bad review (though I suspect another developer is behind that). Play it and enjoy, have a cigar ready to smoke at the end of story mode so you can take in the full experience. Expand

MW3 = MW2 map pack. Sure, MW2 was fun like three years ago, but as much money that goes into the COD franchise, can you really justify reusing textures and objects from a game that came out years ago? No. Same multiplayer experience that lets a complete noob run around and think they're good, while frustrating those with skill.

Maybe they should made MW3 a racing game, or an RPG... Very, very disappointing. Barely any work put into this game at all. Spawn next to an enemy happens far too frequently and I seem to lose connection a whole lot. After recently doing an article that examined how franchises are destroying innovation in the videogame industry, one of the most popular games in the industry has just launched that represents what was talked about in this article very well. Call of Duty is a prime example of one of the franchises that rely on its previous titles for sales. With the most recent release of Modern Warfare 3 being a title that is equivalent to a large DLC package. To add on to this, Activision has already announced a new Call of Duty title release for 2012, in which I will be very surprised to see any type of innovation included. Call of Duty made its major break into the gaming world with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This is the first time the franchise underwent major changes, which in turn brought major changes into many shooters that are seen today. Now it seems that each consecutive Call of Duty title is simply giving us rehashed content, with the exception of Modern Warfare 2, which should be considered a legitimate sequel.

After this franchise went mainstream and captured a large fan base it decided to simply feed repetitively off of these fans. If you were to put up a screenshot of Modern Warfare 3 beside one of Modern Warfare 2, most people could not tell the difference. The developers of this game even decided to directly import a building from Call of Duty 4 into Modern Warfare 3, you can take a look at the video in the section to the left. This game simply added a few new weapon attachments, some new maps, changed the game modes a little, and slapped a new title over the front of the case. This is the perfect example of how certain game franchises are ruining innovation in the industry. The only thing that the Call of Duty franchise has changed since the release of Modern Warfare 2 is its marketing campaign, which is the real reason the title is still so popular.

For me it is just MW2 re-named, I mean I will still play the game and it has its moments but the reason for the really bad score is just because there no real "creativity" which is a real let down.

So far I like the single player but truthfully have not gotten very far yet. My main gripe is with multiplayer. After all the hype from reviews and previews I was expecting a more balanced gameplay with the ability to use tactics. Additionally I had read in reviews that you could play as more of a support role if you weren't in the balls-to-the-wall run-n-gun mood. Boy was I disappointed! Other users are right, the maps suck! As do the rampant cheaters, spawning, balance, and speed of the game. First the cheating: how fun is it for someone to wall hack, aim bot, and lag switch EVERY time they play a game? Doesn't it get old? Do you really think you are GOOD at the game when you do it? Anyway expect to see A LOT of cheaters in multiplayer. Next the maps: They are all horrible, small choke point filled messes. Why even bother having different classes? There IS NO balance! Run n gun is the only good tactic here (if you can call it tactics). The spawn points do not help as other players can spawn right behind you in an area that you cleared. My most important gripe is the speed of the games. Come on IW! Im 43 and still love multiplayer games. Not everyone is a 13 y/o kid with a ton of free time and a .00000000001 sec response time! You are going to lose a good portion of your fan base if you keep going in this direction! Too fast! What was wrong with the pacing of the previous games (seeing how you like to reuse things from previous games)? I loved the series before, but this one has me jumping ship as far as future releases. I will rent it next time before I buy it. Dont get me wrong, I do like some new aspects of the game: confirmed kill, the new weapons, and the leveling up system to name a few. However, my gripes outweigh my positives in terms of making an enjoyable experience. Sorry, but Battlefield definitely wins this round for me! (No Im not a fan boy. I played both equally before). My god of all sequels this has got to be up there with the ones that blows the most.

I loved.....and i do say loved the COD MW series, and now they have completely turned me off as they produced this crap that did nothing for the genre of games in general.

I have read complaints about how spec ops is not 4 player coop, so what thats part of the challenge, plenty of people played 4 player coop in Nazi Zombies and just destroyed it, so whats the problem with a little challenge in having fewer people. Now the competetive multiplayer. Kill confirmed is a new breath of fresh air in the series, it eliminates those who camp for every kill and promotes more teamwork that the usual game modes and requires every member to be more active to create the outcome of the match. As well Team defender is a nice new take on combining two of the series popular game modes (Team D and Capture the Flag) My time spent playing this so far has been the most fun as well as the most frustrating as this is undoubtedly one for those who have friends to accompany them in the fight. But to settle everyones complaints, yes some of the guns are the same and some of the same perks but their balancing has now almost been perfected. For every perk or gun you use there is a different one to contrast it making the firefights more balanced, even for unexperienced players. Infinity Ward has also taken note of players who may not set high killstreaks but play to the game feel more involved and brought to them the ability to earn killstreaks without the need to camp or play with a party to obtain those by implementing the support killstreak class. With a few gun balancing tweaks (mainly the shotguns) the game will be a near perfection in the first person shooter market. Expand

The visuals are tired; the engine is tired; the story is tired; the gameplay is tired; the whole series is tired. Gamers would have just as much fun putting in the original Modern Warfare and paying $5-$10 for a new map pack every once in a while. That's all these titles are anymore, glorified map packs. One memorable level is close to the beginning of the game where you have to stop a nuclear meltdown in a Russian sub. Rent this for the single player - I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I completed it within about 5 hours... After playing most of the recent COD games since MW1, this is truly indistinguishable from what has come before. It's hard not to be cynical when loyal fans are coerced into upgrading for essentially the exact same experience. Even FIFA doesn't have this gall. Deja vu.

I had fun with it, multiplayer is there and there are differences. Map design for MP though is very restrictive. Actually that is what turned me off of it more than anything else. No large maps like Afghan or Wasteland from MW2. If you're a fan of the series you've already bought it, but for newcomers there is enough there to warrant a purchase between SP, MP, and CO-Op modes.

I honestly can't believe the poor reviews on here for this game.

I love this game partly for many of the reasons that it is getting negative reviews. I'm spending £40 on this game so I like the fact that to a certain level I fully knew what I was getting for my money. These same people would go through the roof if Infinity Ward completely changed it and they didn't like it.

Comparing it to Battlefield 3 is also pointless since the only thing that is similar is that they are both first person shooters.

As for why I love this game, it looks fantastic, plays at a fast and frantic pace and you are always in the thick of the action. The guns are great, I especially love the Type 95 which is basically the new FAMAS. I enjoy the majority of the levels with Outpost being a standout. I'm looking forward to seeing how Elite will work it to. In summary, it is more of the same from Infinity Ward but that same is far superior than anything else out there.

Now it seems that you can be first to spot your enemy running along, first to aim, first to fire, and the first to die with your opponent getting away without a scratch. It's also even easier now to pin your opponents in their spawn. How random is the spawning when your are already in their sights, spawned around the corner from where you just died, or spawning an enemy directly behind you within 5 seconds of running out of the spawn?

I honestly don't think gamers wanted a lot of change. Which, in a way, is good because this game doesn't deliver in that respect. What a lot of gamers wanted was a game that worked. The series MW series started 4 years ago and seems to be going backwards since.

Played them both a lot. When I brought this game home and loaded it up I went into shock as I could not believe what I was playing. All the colours are pale grey or orange, and the graphics bleed and pixelate. The soldiers do not even look like soldiers, they look like R2D2. They're way too tall and skinny and dressed in sci-fi gold uniforms. They waddle around like cheap action figures and it looks nothing like human movement. The guns shoot like laser guns and sound like powerless laser guns. And not a bit of recoil on the weapons.

And the maps. Maybe the most important part. The previous 2 installments had some great maps, if there were weak maps they certainly were not broken. And they contained some element of modern design, within cities or landscapes where modern warfare would occur. They were not very realistic maps but contained thoughtful design. The maps of mw3 could not have been a map pack, they are terrible, it is a completely different game. The maps are a random assortment of pipes and corridors. There is no scale to the soldiers and the corridors are nothing like anything you'd ever imagine for modern warfare. Every map is exactly the same. Take the smallest black ops map, add 4 more corridors for every three, and make sure it is a random assortment of industrial junk. There is no thought to the maps whatsoever and no skill involved in the game because of it.

This game is like stepping back into time to poor Halo knockoffs. There is nothing resembling Modern Warfare here. For those that complain of BF3 fanboys, well, the point is obvious. BF3 offers the best multiplayer gameplay since Left 4 Dead. As for a modern warfare game BF3 offers human soldiers, scaled environments, balanced maps, strategic structuring of teams, and vehicles. MW3 offers R2D2 warfare, no strategy, and consumerism. It is obvious which game is better, and there must be comparisons to BF3 because it is the best warfare multiplayer to date. MW3 only gets such great reviews because of Wall Street business tactics. It's an absurd joke on all of us who spent money on this game. I should have purchased Man vs Wild or something.

Most of the people that i've talked to about the game have agreed with me that MOD 3 is a fantastic instalment in the Call Of Duty franchise. Other people that i've talked to think that the game is aweful, rubbish, etc, and i then asked them if they've played it and they answered "NO". So how can they criticise the game. The campaign mode is awesome, when you start playing it, you just need to know whats going to happen. I was disappointed that "SOAP" died in the campaign, as he was one of the best characters in the game, but that, in my right opinion is the only bad thing that happens in the game. I can understand why Infinity Ward killed SOAP off, but i think it wasn't really necessary. In terms of online, you could say its same old same old, but there are a lot of changes that make the online better, eg strikes packages, weapons, amazing maps, game modes, for example Kill Confirmed. Reviewers are also saying that the graphics are bad? How are they bad ?
Overall i think Infinity Ward and co have produced the game of the year again, and i congratulate them for doing this, and very much look forward to the DLC, and other NEW features that are still to come.

The only good part is the story, but that is easily spoiled because it is so predictable. The graphics are the same as on CoD 4, which came out 4 years ago. Usually I do not care about graphics but this was just disappointing. I have played about 1h of multiplayer and I am totally sick of it! More campers than ever with a lot of 12 year old kids, way too easy to spawn kill, overpowered weapons etc. I could go on for a whole essay if I would have the energy to. There are a lot of glitches also, of course the game was just released but these are simple, easy glitches that should have been noticed instantly during the beta tests. The maps are all recycled with the same looks as earlier maps, nothing new. I am really disappointed mostly because I waited out in the cold rain for almost 12 hours with my friends and we really were expecting a good game. That this is not. Save your time, go play something else because this is not worth it. At least I can still sell this on eBay for 90% of the money.â

I knew what to expect at every turn and i was never caught off guard and i was never immersed by the gameplay. This franchise used to be epic, however now they just keep redoing everything they've done before, just with less flair. Multiplayer is very popular for the series and I can understand why, its fast paced and it offers many incentives for hours of play time. They don't really add anything new this time around, however they do ad more of the same thing, which isn't a bad thing unless you've already played the other games in the series. This game has an identity crisis, it wants to be the same as its predecessors yet while trying to pave a new way for the franchise, sadly it ends up doing nothing new. Expand

This game was a bit boring. Graphics engine seemed a little dated and Multiplayer kept crashing. I much prefer Battlefield 3. I also noticed that the xbox-360 version seemed to be a bit clippy, with the frame-rate dropping quite a lot. Compared to my friend's ps3 version the graphics were much worse too, with the textures being a real disappointment. Also the sound was very 'tinny'.

More and more each year, the publisher start to care less about the hardcore gamer (who got them here in the first place) & more about $ signs. This is Modern Warfare 1.9, everything is the same as Modern Warfare 2 apart from weapons , which still kinda feel the same but just look different. The maps are new but worse in my opinion.

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
