Poor excuse for a squeal, just one very expensive map pack really. Its incredibly unfair on consumers to charge such excessive prices for such little content.

After hours of the previous games in the series, I was expecting a well worked campaign mode and useful changes to the multiplayer. This provided neither. Major improvements needed, I actually traded in after 3 days!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start off by saying a few things. This game was incredibly hyped, and both high and low expectations for this game arose. This review outlines my final opinion on this pile of mediocre **** so let's begin.

    1. A Modern Warfare 2 Clone
It's almost the exact same game as Modern Warfare 2. Just look at eveything (title screen, the gameplay, weapons, levels ect.). Previous installments in the franchise at least had more variety and differences between each game; this pile of **** is a downright disgusting and blatantly inexcusable clone.

    2. The game is further proof of Activision tiresome efforts to milk the series.
The series is getting milked raw, and so far, the milk is curdling up into a rancid pile of moldy **** A new installment every year? Don't be ridiculous, Activision. 3. The Survival Mode reeks of ass.
Survival Mode is yet another ****ty addition to the franchise, and is inferior in almost every way to Nazi Zombies.

    4. The Campain mode should be cut out of the game (the series even) altogether.
The Campaign Mode is yet again the same linear garbage, with barely any variety or enjoyment to be had. The same can be said for almost every modern COD game. Nuff said.

    5. COD: Elite: a useless addition to the series, that shouldn't exist in the first place.
COD: Elite itself is a clone of other services, and the fact you have to pay for such a useless and gimmicky addition to the game, is more irrefutable proof that Activision is milking those **** raw. Not to mention, the service not being included as part of the game, made an already lackluster clone even more similar to it's predecessor. The integration with Facebook further proves that Activision is tageting the series towards casual gamers.

    6. Little retarded fraghead kids. Just look at your typical modern-day COD gamer. A nooblet, casual gamer fraghead kid, that loves shouting out retarded insult in the mic, and thinks that he's such a man at the game, when in reality he fails hard (noob), and has been fooled by the amount of awards this game spews out.

    7. Campers When it comes to the modern warfare franchise, people had been complaining about camping since day one, and meanwhile the problem still remains in the game (as it is a clone of MW2, what did you expect -_-). A ****ty spawning system, and cheap ways to get kills, not to mention the ease at obtaining killstreaks, just futher encourages camping.

    Conclusion:
Stay away from this game if your a real gamer, and not some dimwitted **** All the points above are reasons significant enough to end one's decision in purchasing such a tremendously overhyped and ****ty game.

The game is extremely mediocre and average, and I would have given it a 5/10, but from all the negatives I listed above, it just further drags the score down to...
    *drumroll*

Top 5 Reasons Why I Dislike MW3: Multiplayer

    1. Spawning: In core, it seems as if you can't get more than three kills without somebody on the other team spawning around the corner from you. I have repeatedly watched myself kill another player, they spawn, and then they kill me, all in the time allotted in a kill-cam. The spawn-delay should be incorporate into all core game modes or completely revamp the spawning system like Brink or Battlefield 3.

    2. Inconsistency: You can kill somebody with 4 shots or less to the chest or waistline with almost any weapon, sometimes. I constantly get hit-markers over and over again and then my opponent pops back up and shoots me twice and I'm dead, and spawning around the corner. The stopping power perk allowed a variety of weapon use. I could sacrifice my original power for accuracy or double up on power. Now its just the stronger weapon wins, no matter how accurate you are. 3. Maps/Camping: These new maps look amazing, but that's all they are; something nice to look at. In multiplayer these maps are breeding grounds for camping players. Its so cluttered that people can hide behind almost anything and get there accolade, emblem, and title for being in the same spot the longest. On some maps, if the team puts up a semi adequate defense, it is impossible to flank them, Outpost and Arkaden are perfect examples. Hardcore was my sanctuary from this but its the worst now.

    4. Knifing: On my full green bar connection screen, I'm witnessing myself have the upper hand lunging to get my stab, but no, epic fail on my part. A quick side step and a few bullets or a knife in my back and I'm on the floor. Once again knifing is useless unless your enemy's back is turned. If you run into somebody you might get lucky and get them with the swiping motion of turning and hitting the knifing button at the same time we all love. Personally, I think the game would be better off without the knife in multiplayer or adopt the Halo way of close combat with a little changes of course.

    5. Audio Effects: You can't turn off the game music for some odd reason. The music deafens and drowns out all aspects of the game when something important happens. The sound of the weapons are disappointing, the sound effects in MW2 sounded much more realistic.

I think I'll be switching to Battlefield 3 while my hours of waiting in line, anticipation, and excitement collect dust in its case.

I'm compelled to write a review, having played through the game entire, and put in hours on multiplayer as well, in response to the incredibly ridiculous zeros and ones given the game by thousands of people. a zero or a one could and should only go to a game so bad and broken so as to be unplayable, and modern warfare 3 is none of these things. the campaign is relatively brief at about 5 hours, but the story is good closure to the first 2 modern warfare games, and the action set pieces are quite spectacular. spec ops is a great nugget based form of co op, and the multiplayer is similar to previous modern warfare games but a highly refined form of them with much improved killstreak reward setups. Is there a certain amount of familiarity within the game to previous cod? well of course. Should this be a surprise? Every sequel to every highly successful game I have played sticks very close to the winning formula that made it a success in the first place. and this is true not only in the world of interactive entertainment, but movies as well. and yet you don't find the kind of hostility toward gears of war, god of war, grand theft auto, halo, etc etc that you find against the cod games. Most likely this has to do with the shameless yearly franchising of the series, only a step above the saturation activision gave the world with the guitar hero debacle. But from a business standpoint, who could blame activision for wanting to make a billion dollars every year? In closure, if you have played one of the previous modern warfare games, don't expect this one to reinvent the wheel. However, if you enjoy fun, balanced multiplayer action, and like first person shooters, there is really no reason you won't enjoy this game. Expand

A new system that levels up each weapon as you use it. and a handful of other changes that overall don't make a difference from the core game play. But (at least on 360) if you are new to the series I recommend just staying away from the online component altogether. Everyone playing seems to already have the best weapons and accessories and they are already experts. Each time I spawned It was no mach. One on one there weapons were just to powerful. The team stuff was a little bit better but unless your going to pour hours and hours into the steap online learning curve your better off just sticking to the single player. And no I am not a fan boy or a hardcore fan either. I have played all the cod's and I have played them all online Mw2 and Black ops being the most played online. My suggestion would be to just get it used. If u dont have money right now or r freaking out dont sweat it. It's not that great of a game i'll be playing this game mostly for the campaign and ma b some new spec ops missions. In my opinion Mw2 was way better. That game for me gets a 9.5- 10 while this one gets a 6. I can honestly say tho that I wish I didnt get this game new. I also think sledge hammer studios ruined this title. It is similar to the way StarWars kotor 2, Devil may cry 2 and Socom Confrontation was butchered. As I previously stated do yourself a favor and get this used if u can. If not just buy Modern Warfare 2 for half the price. Add me on live I'll b online playing BO's and Mw2 as soon as I beat this campaign =]. Expand

You can tell that they put a lot of work into making the environment as alive and realistic as possible. Multiplayer also received several welcome upgrades. The best parts from MW2 and Black Ops were kept, while it was clear that they made a point of balancing the game and removing other overpowered or stupid pieces (nukes). Spec Ops, a favorite of MW2, returns, bringing with it enjoyable missions and different perspectives from campaign missions. Along with that, the new Survival mode is one of the most fun additions to the game, and is both challenging and fun to play through. Overall, the best parts of the last few games were kept, and the new additions and detail make this an excellent title. Yes, it will feel a bit like MW2. But I say that in a good sense. MW3 delivers CoD fans what they want. It's a great example of how a vocal minority (irritated BF3 fans, lol) try to bash a great game. Also important: the number of people who are irritated about its similarity to MW2 is minuscule compare to the number of fans who would be pissed if the game was redone to something else entirely. If you're a fan of the series, or someone looking to try it out for the first time, you won't be disappointed. Expand

let's talk about story ! it's not like HALO ! so you'll not face a large amount of informations in 2 hours and say Wow it's epic !
it's not like BF3 that put you in the story that you've seen it 1000 time before !
it's Modern Warfare so you'll see real places , real people , real politics and of course real characters ! the plot is the same as Modern Warfare 1 and 2 but the difference is Revelations and characters endings .
let's talk about gameplay ! just like MW1 & MW2 gameplay is where this game beat its rival . fast action gameplay that increase adrenaline alongside with cinematic scenes will satisfy you of spending 60 $ for this game !
sounds and musics are brilliant and i can't say anything bad about them !
graphics are good enough for a 2011 released game and have many improvements from Modern Warfare 2 and 60fps is where this game is beat its rival in graphics (on consoles) .
multiplayer is the best in series so you can finish the story mode in 5 hours and go for multiplayer ! but you have my word , you can't finish multiplayer even in 500 hours ! it's Call Of Duty ! there is no need to say every part is at it's best like maps , perks , modes , weapon customize ...
at last i can say there are many games out there but there are a few perfect games so don't spend 60 $ for the first game you'll see in the markets !
Modern Warfare 3 is the best FPS in 2011 , no doubt . but i think it's the best FPS ever !

Nothing has changed about this game since Cod4. Beat the campaign in one night. Played online for 5 hours then sent it back. This games graphics looks like **** compared to most other shooters. No matter how much you try to cover up the games **** bit-map shading by using dynamic light, it still looks like a game from 2005. If you want to play a good game for 60$ you can find it elsewhere.

First I would like to point out that in no way is this game innovative, but to call this game mw 2.5 or 1.3 is a rash, bold, and incorrect statement. Anyway, i digress to my actual review of this game. First I would like to point out that in no way is this game innovative, but to call this game mw 2.5 or 1.3 is a rash, bold, and incorrect statement. Anyway, i digress to my actual review of this game. I will be breaking this down into the three categories Infinity Ward has given us, as well as certain criteria people expect from a review such as graphics, game play, etc.

The first portion every person should go through (or at least the one I always start with in every new cod title) is the single player campaign. This campaign is fantastic in every sense, though a bit short. But this complaint is a small one considering I blasted through the main story line in about 4.5 hours on regular difficulty. But its length really isn't a flaw if you consider that a game that looks for the biggest adrenaline fill it can possibly dish out, while at the same time trying to not be numbing to the player. This campaign finally wraps up the storyline in a very meaningful and conclusive way and its a blast getting there.

Then comes the return of spec ops, which I enjoy substantially more than Nazi zombies (sorry zombies have become been there done that in our culture, only thing i enjoy with zombies anymore is the walking dead). Anyway I can't wait to be able to play with mode properly with a friend instead of getting paired with some moron online. In addition, a second game type has been added to spec ops which is called survivor. Survivor is more or less the COD take on horde mode from the gears of war series, and it works really well here, though admittedly I do find myself getting bored after one of two rounds.

And finally the monster that is the cod multiplayer. People who hate on it will continue to hate and people that love the fast paced gun on gun arcade style shooter will continue to love it. There is nothing innovative from the (and I don't know why people forget this) original innovation, but it still works great and now with no commando or one man army nube tubes, the multiplayer brings cod into a new world of people complain but not all about the same thing. I will be the first to admit that there are some guns that are slightly overpowered, such as the type 95 or the much hated ump45, but I'm not nearly as annoyed with these weapons as I was with certain weapons from previous cod titles. Overall, I'm having a blast with the multiplayer and anyone who isn't, probably sucks at it (I'm a firm believer that anyone who **** about cod should be forced to post their k/d ratio, so at least we know why).

To wrap things up I'll briefly go over the specs of the game. Are the graphics innovative? No. But they looked damn good, nearly photo-realism, 5 years ago and they still do. Any game that can run at 60 frames per second while having so much crap going on in the background and look this good ON A SIX YEAR OLD CONSOLE, is doing something right in my book. The controls are as tight and responsive as one should expect from a cod game, thatâ

I was really expecting this game to be at the very least better than Black Ops. It's not. In every aspect of the gameplay it isn't even close to COD4 or MW2. And though MW2 has it's share of mods/hacks, etc, IMO there is no better multi-player interface than MW2. The sound, realism and the maps are very diverse. As far as the MW3 campaign, it lacks depth and innovation and tells a story that is similar to the previous titles in the series. Step outside the box. Look at Batman: Arkham City. Now THAT is how your follow up one of the best games for the 360 with a sequel. As far as the multiplayer.....I logged in over 10k team deaths in MW2 and had a k/d over 2.00, played maybe 100 or so in black ops because it really seemed like an Atari interface. This multiplayer has the same feel as black ops, so if you liked that MP then you'll like this. It's very micky mouse in a way. Seems more like a kids game then an epic online MP. There is really no "tactic" per say in this multiplayer. Everyone seems to use a rush loadout. The maps are very linear. I'm finding that I unload almost a full clip into someone and he shoots me once and I'm dead. WTF? Or, the guy sees me and I'm instantly dead with no chance to react. I realize that lag or connection speed can be an issue but thought that dedicated servers would solve the problem. Sledgehammer did a horrible job IMO with the whole MP interface, maps, visuals and sound. Where is the "old guard" at IW.......ohhh yeah it's Respawn. Really can't wait for their first shooter and maybe this franchise will be a thing of the past. I hope I'm wrong because I've really enjoyed it over the years. I just won't buy another COD game unless the reviews are clearly a newly created renaissance that brings us back to the glory days of this series.

To be honest......I'm going back to COD4 and MW2 MP. The last two games make me feel as if this franchise hit its peak long ago. One thing is for sure.........we are the consumers have been sucked into the series and the only people are benefiting from it are the pub's and dev's in record sales, meanwhile we're stuck with a nice door stop of a game.

However the problems with multiplayer are still there, yes it's still a fast paced shooter but that's mainly due to the close quarters maps which only require players to use smgs to dominate. I also found that the game can lean to much towards camping at times with too much focus on players getting kill streaks even with the new kill reward system. As for the campaign it continues from where it left off in MW2 in medias res, i feel that this is a little bit of a let down as new players unlike myself my not know the story. The AI system returns although against such titles as gears of war 3 and uncharted 3 it feels a little bit too cheap with the AI relying on using grenades to kill you and feels a bit robotic. As for the level designs they remind me a bit of gears of war 1 with many of the level involving moving down a street, stopping to kill some people in front moving to the next group with no real player ability needed to beat the game. Unless of the grenade spam difficulty (veteran). The new survival mode is good fun though much better in my opinion than the rather dated zombies, this mode can be a blast with a friend although hampered by the AI again. To conclude this game is feeling a bit dated and has less new content than Halo: ODST, think of it not a a new game but as an expansion pack like the change from fifa 11 to 12 or madden 11 to 12. Nothing new, but nothing truly broken from year to year. If you are going to buy this game then I suggest that you buy it second hand save your self some cash and wait for the patches to roll out. I've seen indie shooters for $20 better than this garbage...

like most people pointed out there isnt much new to MW3 both in terms of single player and multiplayer. but I have found with this installment there are some "new" features clearly throwing the game out of balance. Black ops did a lot of things right as a "modern" Call of duty, and its absolutely foolish for sledgehammer(SH) to not adapt some of their ideas such as being able to unlock any attachment you want instead of a dual level based system. Sledgehammer's dual leveling system and poor matchmaking system does nothing but hurt new players as now they have to not only accquire general levels but then level up the gun as well to get a mix attachments and what used to be or should still be attachments. starting off with not only "starter guns" but nerfed guns at that with no bare minimum attachments and features that should be default on guns like decent bullet penetration pretty much makes you a sitting duck against the multitude of players that are already above general level 35. This disparaging level gap can also be attributed to the Mt. Dew promotion going on, another poor business based decision, and is skewing game balance.

As far as the maps, many of them are actually redone or partially recycled versions of MW2 maps and by redone I mean SH just added way too much ambient garbage or "cover" to the maps and many of them instead of being realistic feel like you are trying to manuver through someone's house on an episode of "Hoarders." The blown up cars that were once faithful defenders against bullets can too often become death traps as your player model gets stuck on them and cannot stand up to quickly escape the area. SH tried to make many of the maps challenging but with the beavy of blindside pathways and dropping you in the center of the map oftentimes, the maps seem like charactures of military scenarios rather than a somewhat believeable combat experience. Explosion blast radius is way too big especially for some of the tight CQB maps. Explosions sometimes kill your through thick concrete walls without anytype of animation cliping to show the explosion went through.

new player perks like stalker are nearly useless if not a detriment to your playstyle.

while kill confirmed is a fun new game mode along with the VIP like flag capture mode, SH has virtually removed any incentive to play these and the other long time COD gamemodes as they are intended, because of the Mt. Dew promotion and just weak XP from doing objectives every game mode just boils down into people playing team deathmatch.

most of these still existing problems were back from MW2 and still have not been fixed on top of a lot of recent additions to unbalancing and annoying to say the least game modes. SH just wasnt ready for prime time even cutting and pasting IW code, but it might also be time for the hardcore gaming community to hang up the boots on this franchise. Despite SH not being able to fill IW shoes and this game being severely premature considering what happened at IW I'm most disappointed in the professional critics that praised this cookie cutter garbage in order to suckle at the green teat of Activision.

I'm very disappointed with this game. It seems more like an addon to MW2 than a brand new game. This is a game that's probably better rented than bought. Took less than 12 hours to finish the single player on the hardest difficulty. Multiplayer is pretty much more of the same action as before. In my opinion, that's pretty **** pathetic doing this. Just cause a lot of people do not like your game for many extremely valid reasons doesn't mean you should **** about it. Look, if they really wanna make this happen, y doesn't Infinity Ward &/or Activision do what they do to the brain dead critics as they do to the brain dead fans of the series and pay them under the table so they can get a good enough review so dumb-asses who look at critic scores will actually buy the game.

Several things that were once exploits, such as quick scoping, were not only intentionally put back into the game, but buffed to a ludicrous level. Back during XP, they boasted that commando pro was being removed..well, they removed the perk, and built it in as a default (not to mention the blink-of-an-eye insta knifing just is wrong on so many levels.)

Then there's the maps themselves. Back during previous games, they at least had some balance between open-ish maps and tight city maps. Well, this time, it's exclusively cramped city maps where multiplayer is pretty much reduced to running laps around the map. Very tiresome, very quickly. Combine this with poor sound design and a campaign that is completely laughable as it is short (I admit, that IS a good thing with how horrid the story is), and you get a game that is not worth a $60 price tag, nor is it worth the title 'The Most Anticipated Game in History'.

What i would have expected after all of the other games is improvement. What many get from this multiplayer are small unthoughtful maps, same grahpics as previous games, and a ball of frustration. Most of the maps are EXTREMELY small and after the first 3 or so minutes, people start spawning near each other and its all very confusing.. you kinda ask yourself , "wait, me and this guy cleared out this area, and then we both got taken out by some guy who just spawned in an area we cleared" This game is a major disappointment. I've never looked forward to a game more and been disappointed by a game so much. This game is a copy and paste job from hell. MW1 and MW2 were both exponentially better games than this. There are a few cool new features that are keeping me playing it now but I will be going back to Black Ops soon. I hope Treyarch makes the next CoD. How could this genius part of the game be dropped? I will NOT ever buy a COD game from IW. Expand

I got this as a gift, and was thoroughly disappointed. It simply feels like you are playing different maps in Black ops, a game I had burned out on long ago. The single player campaign is forgettable at best, and is over very quickly. Random thoughts in no particular order: This is the best Call of Duty by far. I have logged 24 hours of game play and absolutely would recommend the game. The weapons in MW3 are fun to use and level up. You no longer have to worry about unloading half a clip into a guy and have him lunge twelve feet to stab you. It seems much more realistic with only a few bullets needed to register a kill, almost like a mix between hardcore and regular game modes on the previous versions. I have not played the single player mode yet, but I am sure that I will enjoy that also. Buy the game or shut up already. Expand

It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it is more balanced and fun than any of the other COD games. The graphics are much better than Black Ops or MW2 and it is just smoother overall. In my opinion Battlefield 3 looks terrible on Xbox (BF3=30 fps, MW3=60 fps makes a huge difference!) and just has tons of graphical glitches (just youtube it). As a huge MW2 fan, I can say that the changes they have made to multiplayer have made it much more fun to play (no unlimited noob tubes, no commando, no sniper/shotgun combo). Basically, if you like MW2, you'll probably like MW3. If you don't like COD in general this one won't change your mind. Great game. Buy it, enjoy it and stop hating a quality game that you might not like because of the hype. Expand

Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
