Pros: Amazing new mechanic, that need to have in every game from now on. The replay value is so great that I have replayed this game twice since launched, and it took me nearly 250 hours of playtime.
Cons: Visually the same as BOTW. The limited hardware is because of the old Switch system.

Simple review: The best game in the series by far.

The added difficulty of the enemies is great and the return of dungeons and dungeon bosses is really nice. While the game is amazing it doesn’t mean it’s perfect and I still have a few gripes with it. The lack of connectivity between the two games is definitely one of the biggest flaws in my opinion, as well as the low amounts of sky islands. The dungeons, while I’m glad they are back feel kind of the same besides the environment, “activate 4 of this thing and fight the boss” that’s basically it. The sage abilities are also really underwhelming compared to the champion abilities in botw. But even with these flaws, I think the game is still the best Zelda game, even topping botw in my opinion. One of the best games I have ever played. The world is full of content, and exploration feels rewarding. The game also has many puzzles, and the combat is also amazing. The only downside that I can think of is the story. It's good, but it's not great. It's the usual good vs evil, and I hoped they would try something different with Ganondorf.

I am deducting 1 point as "The Depths" absolutely did not work for me. To me they are on the same enjoyment level as sailing in "Wind Waker". However, Nintendo know what they are doing by making them sort of optional. I spent 100+ hrs on the game above ground and only went "down there" for a few hrs when it was mandatory for the main story.

This game is definitely a masterpiece of the masterpieces, a game that would never be topped. This game, although it costs $60 on Amazon, is totally worth every cent. When I first started the game, I was amazed by the complexity and beauty of everything. The new Constructs were beautifully designed, the new horns of the enemies fit them so well! (My personal favorites are the silver Lizalfos and silver Lynel horns.) The new abilities are, what me and my friends call ‘Runes on Steroids’ because of their usages and similarities. Then there are the Depths. Whoo! How did Nintendo hide this much of a secret without it getting leaked?

this might be a good development from botw if the game was balanced and the combat system truly thought out, but coupled with input lag, stubborn predictive pathing that makes you do things you never pressed the buttons for, and the fact that so many of the regular enemies are just irritatingly strong bullet sponges, it just makes for a highly frustrating experience with very inconsistent behavior that makes every combat entirely 1 sided. the fact that i can't really make healing items anymore just adds to this, since i'm not realistically able to prepare for difficult combat in the way that any other game in the series would allow. if they wanted to make this more similar to older zelda games, then they should stop making it so difficult to stock up, since it's ALWAYS been easy to collect a bunch of fairies or potions in every single entry prior to this. the fairy fountains don't even work right on the sky islands, since our companions will scare them away even if the fountain doesnt have a built in rocket archer that immediately makes them leave as soon as we arrive, whether we kill it or it shoots at us.

the majority of quests, main or side, are outrageously bugged, the rewards for minibosses are often just useless amiibo drops that nintendo made stop working since botw, the visuals are decidedly more gloomy, less detailed, and lower contrast, there are far too many obnoxiously slow and repetitive cutscenes, NPCs talk WAY too much and say completely pointless and convoluted things that make it seem like the creators were trying to show off their middle of the road english skills, and all of these aspects make totk's hyrule a place that i simply don't feel enthusiastic about exploring. this game is more of a headache than a source of relaxation or entertainment, and that's really disappointing given just how many years nintendo had to make a finished sequel out of a world and platform that they had already made 90% of. yes, there is still a lot of cool stuff in this game, but it's just buried under a heap of unfinished jank. the developers CLEARLY saw how bad the recent pokemon games were and decided they didn't need to bring any kind of integrity to this new project.

TLDR: if they don't patch this heavily, i'm never buying another zelda game, and it's really messed up that they are screwing with my childhood like this. i guess i can always go back to ocarina of time romhacks.]

Probably haven't get the paraglider or even still holding that broken ass master sword. because it didn't indicate where is the first three shrine I understand people who only play games that tell you where to go and players that only play game with guides will get frustrated. what I can say is the fun haven't started and they are here to reviewing the game
    Reused material and BOTW DLC
I don't think those people actually explore the map much, every side village have changed some finished building some need to rebuild. not to mention that BOTW doesn't even have caves its all empty mountain, IMO BOTW feels more empty after I play TOTK. and the depth and the sky Island its just fun.
    The Price
nothing much to say around here, I think the game is worth the price.
    Graphics
I only have fps drop when I use ultra hand to move around but tbh I rarely need to walk around with a ultra hand active.
    weapons
You can fix weapons and have New weapon gain from the depth So I think people just doesn't discover that they can do things like this, which is part of the gameplay to discover.
    personal tips
If you are a sheep who can't do anything without a guide yes this game will get bored to you.
We all knows that there is no game that can suite for everyone so suck it this is the GOTY.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What. A. Game.

They took one of the best games ever made, 5-6 years of development time, and a big team of passionate video game developers... How could this ever go wrong? They could have made a record breaking game with just 2-3 years but no, they decided they want to take their time with it, and they did it again. They made it even better somehow, no idea how, but they did.

The story is so amazing and definitely deserves a spot as one of the most beautiful stories in the Zelda franchise. We also got a lot of lore and learned more about the Zonai, which I really enjoyed. I really hope the next game builds even more on this, all these time lines and essays about when each game takes place can give one a real headache.

The enemies in this game are crazy. I do still miss the guardians from BOTW, but the new ones more than fill their spot. I love how you are just exploring the world, picking up some mushrooms, looking at some deer, and then all of the sudden the sky turns red, five hands come out of the ground, and they just start coming after you. They pick you up, start infecting you with gloom, you try to run away but they are too fast and catch you again... So scary and I love it. The same with the 3 headed dragon, I just wanted to take a picture of it and then it chased me for what felt like half of the map and then just laser beamed me. It feels amazing progressing through the game and then being strong enough to fight monsters that felt unbeatable, to killing them with ease.

And they added one of the best mechanics, fuse. It's honestly so funny people complaining that it's just Minecraft, like what? Have you ever played Minecraft in your life? When do you put a fan on a stick and fly on a hoverboard in Minecraft? When do you find a fossil in a cave, put a float ball beneath it, put canons on it, and have a skeleton pirate ship in Minecraft? And even IF it were similar to Minecraft, which as someone who has played Minecraft for years can confirm it's not, how would that be a bad thing? Minecraft is one of the most loved games, even in 2023 and it's over a decade old. No idea what people are smoking nowadays, but I built myself an awesome robot snail that freezes all enemies in an area and I love it. I call him Garry.

It's too much stuff for one review, you could write a whole book on this game, you could easily make a 10 hour youtube video just talking about this masterpiece. It's the middle of the year as of writing this review, and there is not a single doubt in my mind that this is GOTY23. Games like this don't come around often, so take your time with it.

BotW was 10/10 in my opinion. It brought on something new and fresh. Tears of the Kingdom is reusing the same world, music and most assets from BotW. It feels, as several others have pointed out, like a DLC for BotW. I would have given it a higher score if the game was priced reasonably, but it's not ($70 for a "DLC").

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tears of the Kingdom is a game that is too afraid to create its own identity. It follows Breath of the Wild's formula nearly verbatim, with a few new mechanics sprinkled in. You wake up with your powers gone, have to complete four tutorial shrines to leave the starting area, travel to the same four regions to solve their problems, collect Korok seeds to expand your inventory, complete shrines to increase your health and stamina, go to specific locations to see memories, all while exploring an essentially unchanged world from Breath of the Wild.

The new additions like the Sky and Depths are underwhelming at best, with both areas feeling like the same formations copy and pasted ad nauseam. They ultimately add very little to the world and lack the care and thought put into Breath of the Wild's map. There are also some strange continuity errors between the two games, with Tears of the Kingdom seemingly retconning several things from Breath of the Wild.

The new abilities are enjoyable, and definitely an upgrade from the previous game's. The temples, bosses, and story are improved, but only marginally. The greater enemy variety is very nice though, mostly fixing one of the biggest problems with Breath of the Wild.

While the overall package may have more content than it's predecessor, it is unable to recapture the magic of exploring this version of Hyrule for the first time. Through the entirety of my playthrough, I was just wishing I could have played Breath of the Wild for the first time again.

One of the assets of this game is you have the freedom to do as much or as little as you like. There are tons of shrines and side quests that could take hundreds of hours, or you can approach the main quests more directly, opting for minimal side content. I appreciated this; after about 100 hours, I felt ready to move on.

The creativity of building using Zonai devices is limited somewhat by the need for resources, which must be farmed. This is not especially satisfying. In fact, anything requiring combat is underwhelming, much like BOTW. Fusing weapons is an interesting new layer to what was present in BOTW, but it doesn't do anything to fundamentally alter the combat.

Still, the ability to jump high in the sky kills ground exploration. Ultrahand is a fun mechanics but it’s slower and sluggish in everything you may want to accomplish with that. There’s always an easier faster solution.
