    An amazing product for the first open world sonic game. Movement is tight and fun, blasting around the islands feel amazing and there's never a dull moment.
    Combat is action pack and shockingly deep for the game.
    Music is fantastic (to be expected from the series) The story is engaging, giving you an incentive to keep playing.     Not sure I've ever disagreed with the general critical reception more. Feels like we weren't even playing the same game? Finnicky platforming? It's never been more fast, precise or intuitive. The graphics are more then good enough if nothing fancy. Story is better then it has any business being. Open world works great for sonic because traversal is fun.     Honestly probably my favorite overall sonic game, it's just such a complete package and so much more then I expected. My GOTY in a year with Elden Ring.

    Edit: Honestly forgot the combat, a historical sore point for the series which is actually extremely good this time around with a fun varied moveset and a skill tree that keeps things fresh. It's been so terrible so long and it's suddenly something I look forward to! Crazy! Just a little bonus point.    … Expand

    Game in general is a masterpiece to me, haven't felt this amazed by this franchise since unleashed, i'm in love with this game, thank you, Sonic.

    Sonic Frontiers feels like a desperate breath of fresh air into the series.

    It is not perfect by any means - cyberspace levels are hit or miss and some are genuinely AWFUL to go through and S rank (3-7 lmao), pop in is an issue though it's not a big deal to me, and there are a few minor bugs that I have encountered only twice in my 15 hours of playtime so far. However, everything else    Sonic Frontiers feels like a desperate breath of fresh air into the series.

    It is not perfect by any means - cyberspace levels are hit or miss and some are genuinely AWFUL to go through and S rank (3-7 lmao), pop in is an issue though it's not a big deal to me, and there are a few minor bugs that I have encountered only twice in my 15 hours of playtime so far. However, everything else outshines it. The story is great with the help of Ian Flynn, known for the Sonic IDW comics. The voice acting is okay for the most part, Amy's in particular is wonderful. Character interactions are great and feel so much better than what we got in the last decade.

    Exploring the open world is genuinely great. I always find myself exploring to see what else there is to find instead of going to the main goal. Last night, I said I'd only play for another hour. Before I knew it, I had played for 8. (Also I do not understand the complaints about the world feeling "empty", I think stuff being spaced out is necessary given how fast Sonic goes.)

    But more or less, this game leaves a wonderful foundation for follow-ups. I cannot wait to see what the Sonic series brings in the future.

    P.S. The soundtrack is FIRE and they got Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens on it. 100/10 banger OST.    … Expand

    Overall this is a very good Sonic game, the best since Unleashed and Generations, Sonic controls AWESOME in the open zones, I also love the DropDash incorporation ( The best feeling of being in control of the character of all the games in the franchise ) and it’s very satisfying upgrading Sonic stats, the combat is really good, the exploration, and I love that the game let you change SonicOverall this is a very good Sonic game, the best since Unleashed and Generations, Sonic controls AWESOME in the open zones, I also love the DropDash incorporation ( The best feeling of being in control of the character of all the games in the franchise ) and it’s very satisfying upgrading Sonic stats, the combat is really good, the exploration, and I love that the game let you change Sonic acceleration, turning speed, boost speed, and more, I love the customization in that way, the history of this game is really really good, Ian is the best, the only thing that I don’t like it’s the reused assets from cyberspace, Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Santuary, and the physics in the Cyberspace levels, I’m loving this new generation of Sonic games!

    And the Super Sonic battles, uff, Sonic is officially back!

    Bueno tras 11 horas de juego, puedo decir que el juego me esta gustando bastante:
    - La historia tiene buena pinta
    - Las peleas me gustan bastantes - Musica maravillosa -Bastantes referencias para los que somos fans del erizo - Bastantes cosas que hacer si quieres tener todo al 100% - Buena duración del juego 11 horas y aun sigo en la segunda isla (Bueno mas que forces iba a durar seguro xd    Bueno tras 11 horas de juego, puedo decir que el juego me esta gustando bastante:
    - La historia tiene buena pinta

    Pero obviamente el juego no es perfecto:

    - Tiene bastante popping la verdad, normalmente no es tan molesto pero me han llegado a aparecer estructuras en la cara de forma muy bestia como 2/3 veces y es un poco wtf.
    - En mi caso sitios con bastantes cosas en pantalla como en el "bosque" de la primera isla hay bajadas de 5-10 fps a veces.

    Espero que este sea el camino que lleve la franquincia en los proximos años, como ya he dicho el juego no es perfecto pero esta batante bien para empezar esta nueva era del erizo azul.

    Por ahora le pondria de nota 7,5/10.
    Cuando me termine el juego a lo mejor cambio de opinión respecto a la nota.

    Pues eso ha sido mi tercera "reseña" hecha en mi vida. No soy de hacer estas cosas xd

You can also combat and fight a lot of unique enemies and bosses, and unlock a lot of new combat moves and    Sonic Frontiers is the best Sonic game in the entire franchise!

    This game in it of itself is a masterpiece regardless of Sonic games!

    The open world is so fun to explore and you can run freely and platform at full speed and fight enemies, bosses and Titans, it's so fun!

    You can also combat and fight a lot of unique enemies and bosses, and unlock a lot of new combat moves and skills, at the skill tree!

    You can also upgrade Sonic, you can upgrade his strength, speed, ring capacity and defense!

    The story is the best out of the whole franchise, and the voice acting is very good, Roger Craig Smith did an amazing job as the voice of Sonic!

    The music in this game is incredible and it's the best music in the entire franchise!

    The Super Sonic fights against the Titans were amazing and some of the best fights in a video game!

It's just a bunch of automated set pieces in the air that gives you a collectible that makes you feel like you've done something when you really haven't and when you're on the ground it's just flat or janky terrain. It's fun to move around for a little bit, but it gets old fast.
    Combat is also pretty mindless, it's just mashing a button and than occasionally    Game is boring and repetitive.     Best 3D Sonic since Unleashed and Adventure. Addictive gameplay loop, stellar combat, feels like an action platformer with solid rpg elements. Game is 20hrs plus, easily worth playing as a Sonic fan or even a fan of action combat and platforming games. 9/10

    Sonic really does feel great to control in this one, possibly the best ground control he has ever had. It is just fun to move around as sonic let alone doing anything else. However the main bulk of the game is spent acquiring different collectibles through platforming challenges and other means like puzzles and combat, which while might not seem to mesh together too well from the outside, it actually works really well in practice!

    The combat is a huge step up from any sonic game and the enemies have depth, while the moves themselves are fun to pull off. Sonic has many different ways to approach enemies, like the tower who you can fight by taking out his lower bits first or you can climb him when he presents the opening and take out the top, instantly destroying every bottom but making him vulnerable if he isn't already dead.

    The cyberspace levels are ok overall, and the physics aren't nearly as good as the open world, however it is still pretty fun. The 2d sky sanctuary level kinda sucks tho as generations classic sonic level design just doesn't work in this game. The cyberspace stages truly shine towards the end of the game!

    The bosses are easily the best in the series, and that's as much as I'll say without spoilers! You want to experience this yourself!

    The music is amazing as usual, one of the best sonic osts with tracks to fit every situation. The visuals are nice but the pop in is a major issue that should be fixed with a potential frontiers 2

    Overall this game is worth your time and money, you won't be dissapointed! Have fun, and enjoy because Sega finally got it right!    … Expand

    Sonic Frontiers this and will always be among my favorite games not only of Sonic but of my life, I loved the combat, the speed, the new changes in the gameplay and the story and soundtrack, simply amazing 10/10.

    An unreal experience, you have to turn speed and all other options up to 100 and play on hard mode. Only bad things are render distance, cyberspace controls are a bit wonky, and giving just a little more life to the world. Otherwise 10/10

    Absolutely the right move Sonic Team had to make. The open zone is extremely fun, the Cyberspace levels are enjoyable, and the music is just absolutely fantastic. The story is also extremely good, and the characters have finally been given the chance to fully shine since Black Knight. It's so good to see Sonic back in the spotlight after so long. Here's hoping the next games are just asAbsolutely the right move Sonic Team had to make. But I truly enjoyed the game from start to finish. Exploring the islands, collecting the chaos emeralds, finding memory tokens, fishing, and fighting the bosses as Super Sonic were all enjoyable to play. Music is one of the best in the series as well. If you like Sonic, I’d recommend you to play this game.… Expand

    a good experience with everything we love about modern sonic and more , a perfect entry point for new players too

    the cyberspace levels are wonderful representations of previous levels of other sonics and the originals are not far behind

    The open world is fun to explore and despite the simple combat mechanics it always makes fights entertaining.

    Sonic Frontiers is an amazing experience of a Sonic game. Exciting story, complex combat system, fun exploration and traversal, the game has a pletory of content to keep the user entertained. Sonic Frontiers feels like a love letter to the long date fans of the Sonic franchise.

Another problem is the constant popping of the game, but I guess this can be fixed in future updates of the game. However the best sonic game in the last 10 years, it was enjoyable and expands many things of the lore, I like that they have developed the personality of sonic in this game, a more serious tone and committed to his role as a hero. I hope this game will serve as an example for sega's next plans.… Expand

    Its so Refreshing to play Frontiers.

    The Quality of the game is actually very good on the switch (though scaled back) it runs Well enough for you to play through the entire game with little to no problems.

    Tomoya Ohtani once again Popped off with the soundtrack.

    The story, the interactions, EVERYTHING.

    Its a Must have for any sonic fan.

Not only did they use frontiers as a sandbox for the new formula to be used in the upcoming 10 years, but they also took advantage of facts that were partly true and partly false to their marketing campaign. Take the example of the islands. They promoted 5 islands to explore, while only 4 islands are actually new and explorable, and even then 1 of those is a complete copy paste of the original Kronos island.     An amazing start to a new direction for the series. Fun gameplay with amazing bosses. The characters are finally written well and the story is taking a serious but still fun in some places gone the series should be. I hope they continue to make this direction and improve on its style going forward.

    Story? Captivating. Serious-toned, characters are faithful to their originally intended depictions, great for all audiences and especially teens and up. A love letter for the old-time fans, and a good and digestible introduction of what Sonic (& other characters in the series) is about (again, story-wise) for new fans. You'll find a lot of lore content too in gameplay elements, such as the fishing game, which is VERY neat. It creates incentive to explore other gameplay mechanics, and cohesion. Graphics/Visuals? Stunning. Picture worthy shots everywhere, makes you want to spend more time on each island, taking the environment in. If not for story/gameplay elements, then simply for the leisure of exploring beautiful scenery. A huge downside is the lack of photo-mode (as of writing) but hey, screenshotting works for now. Audio/Sound? BANGING. Enhances your experience tremendously. Amazing long tracks by many talented artists and groups. Especially the ones for cyberspace. As for sounds you'll find it good, but really the spotlights all on the music.

    Price? Absolutely worth it. If you focus only on the story, the game can be finished in ~20 hours, which is already SO MUCH longer than your average high-price Sonic game. If you want to 100% it though, ~30-40 hours. Especially for the casual players. Wonderful for the price, not too long not too short content-wise, *especially* for a Sonic game.

    Now, what about the nitty-gritty?

    Combat in the game is very fun, you'll be messing around creating your own strategies and fighting style. I LOVE the ability to practice your skills and improve muscle memory - again, this is from someone who doesn't play this style of game. VERY helpful for those unfamiliar and can use the practice in-between like myself. Not to mention how adjustable & customizable Sonic's controls are in the menu, this appeases so many sectors of this fanbase (and out, especially those that are not familiar with controlling sonic) to make the controls THEY'RE comfortable with. This is the most accessible and adjustable Sonic game to date.

    Mechanics are fun to mess around with and improve upon, instructions are clear and you can follow along the game's completion without being lost. You can adjust your gameplay style, difficulty, and how much you want to involve yourself in side-quests and more casual play and not just the main story and combat. *You* get to customize and balance out how you want to play.

    Overall, definitely in top 3 Sonic games out there. A must for new fans and old alike.    … Expand

    Sonic Frontiers is finally a return to form for the Modern Sonic universe, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m in Island 4 as of righting this and it’s already a top 3D Sonic game, bar none. Sonic frontiers is genuinely a great game, and there are literally so many little things that could be done to make it an actual masterpiece. I’m so excited.

    Clearly this is one of the best sonic games. The sonic team has finally found the formula for Sonic 3D.
    It is not a 10 for technical problems (popping), this bothers a bit when playing. If they had solved this problem the game would be a 10.
    The best of the game? in my opinion the experience when playing with SUPER SONIC.
    I love you SEGA and Sonic TEAM

    Modern Sonic is back! This is my favourite game now dethroning unleashed and its all deserved. From the open world exploring to the blast from the past cyberspace levels(with some great new additions too) to the climatic titan boss battles, this game is an incredible experience.     The story respects older fans of the Adventure games with many references as well as characterization similar to Adventure 1 and 2.
    More varied routes in the cyberspace levels which reminded me of the Sonic stages in Adventure 2.
    The soundtrack is excellent, as usual.

    Cons:
    Some of the puzzles exist just to fill the world with something to do, which would sound like a good thing but these puzzles (just a couple of them) feel like they weren’t thought out very much.
    Some of the animation is slightly janky, with the worst probably being the opening cutscene almost looking like a fan-made animation.
    The advertisements for the game were filled with outstanding looking CGI cutscenes, but those same moments were replaced with in-game cutscenes that were nowhere as good looking. Many Sonic games have CGI cutscenes sprinkled in which led me to believe that would happen again.

    My criticisms are for the most part just nitpicks, and the good heavily outweighs the bad. I appreciate Sonic Team for thoughtfully making a game that took the older fans into mind, and I love it. 9/10    … Expand

The    Sonic Frontiers takes the right steps to setup the next decade of Sonic games. Although the last decade of Sonic has been rocky, Sonic may have finally found his footing within the open world genre.

    For the first time in years Sonic has responsive controls, which work well in his environment. The last time you felt this level of control was Sonic Adventure back on the Dreamcast. The world design is brimming with things to see and do and feels as if it is one big Sonic level. The story is emotional and touching and can leave a lasting impression upon any player which few other Sonic game have achieved.

    The highlight of this game are the titan boss battles. I would recommend going in blind and experiencing these yourself as they are a spectacle to say the least. They are the best boss battles in the entire Sonic series by far and you do not want to miss these if you are a Sonic fan.

    Overall this is a well-rounded game that sets the foundation for the next decade of games for the little blue blur. It strikes a balance between exploration and blistering speed and you never lose control of the player which is an massive achievement for any Sonic game.    … Expand

The open-world exploration, enemy/level design, gameplay, and subtle background music reminds me of 4 different games. Breath of the Wild, Sunset Overdrive, Mario Odyssey, and Shadow of the Colossus. But the gameplay for these sections do not stick the landing. I wish that when it comes to the classic levels, they would go a completely different route and have the “Sonic Mania” team design them from the ground up. “Mario Odyssey” executed this idea the best and they laid out a blu-print for it. That being one of my few complaints, I cannot wait to see how future “Sonic” games flourish from the foundation that “Sonic Frontiers” has built.     Amazing return to form. Exploring the open world as sonic is so much fun. The world provides you with plenty to discover and getting from place to place is fun and fast. Some technical issues like pop in and sonic not interacting with the terrain very smothly at times and the controls in cybersoace are not good. But the game nails pretty much everything else.

    This is the type of Sonic game I’ve been waiting for since I started playing Sonic when I was 7. When Frontiers released, I was instantly satisfied with it. It’s an ambitious step for Sega and Sonic Team. They nailed the exploration with the high speed and Sonic elements.

    A great new mix for Sonic! I loved the open zone setting, the zooming around and combat was a blast. Cyberspace levels were dope, rather addicting actually. I was pleasantly surprised. If you're on the fence, you won't be disappointed.

I played this game throughout and i have to say this game is amazing. the open world feels nice and there’s much to do in it. the cyber space stages are a bit odd and not too creative theme wise but level design and the feel is amazing. sometimes i feel like sonic is a bit floaty in the cyber space stages. The only problems i have with this game is the 4th and 5th islands where you could see they clearly ran out of either budget, creativity or care. and i do not care for the final boss fight of this game nor the pinball segment of chaos island. despite this i still enjoyed the game a lot. the super sonic boss fights were amazing and very raw and epic. This game is a step in the right direction. The past references of previous games, and the development of tails felt natural unlike lost world. Tails setting out to become his own person was a nice setup. And sage potentially being a recurring character is amazing. I wish infinite was too because his character potential was greatly missed. but i feel like sages development was spot on. overall this games story and gameplay are amazing. I love it!… Expand

    Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
