    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all I have to say that I consider the Original RE4 a masterpiece and for me it is the best game of all times. When I heard about the remake I had certain expectations for it. Mostly it had to get rid of the few negative aspects of the game, cut the bad sections and add better ones instead and update the game to modern standards in terms of graphic and gameplay. The remake does a lot of good things in this regard but also misses a lot of good opportunities.
    The biggest flaw of the OG game was the island section for me (and a lot of others) where the game shifts a little too much to an action game. The pacing was just not right as there were too many action orientated segments and too few atmospheric and creepy ones. Especially because of the genius village and castle areas that come before it, the Salazar fight was always a turning point for me playing the OG. After the fight I always get the feeling that the most fun parts are over and that the game goes downhill from now one except for a few nice moments left like the regenerators or the U3 fight. My main expectation for this game was that the game will see the biggest changes here. Although there are some changes the remake unfortunately does not enough in my opinion. Not only is the U3 fight cut (maybe it will be in Ada's story though) but there was also not enough NEW things here. I would have loved to see another section where you play as Ashley here for example to lower the pace and build more atmosphere again. Big missed opportunity!
    In general there were a lot of things cut in the game but if you do that then you have to add something new at the same time or it is just lazy.
    Overall the remake stays close to the OG and accomplishes to improve the game in a lot of ways and especially for people that missed this masterpiece back in 2005 it is the best chance to experience it.

    Some other things I liked about the remake:

    - parry system with the knife. Also that the knife has durability. Really nice choice to add that.
    - moving while aiming, shooting and reloading obviously
    - more dialogue and storytelling in general is improved
    - new weapons (also knifes! I found that super cool)
    - the mine thrower is a really nice weapon now as you can use it as a bolt thrower too
    - you can store your weapons (at any time) in the storage which means that you can actually collect and switch between them in one run
    - the merchant tasks and his dialogue
    - enemy designs
    - the new treasure system
    - the shooting range looks awesome!
    - crafting system
    - character design

    and some negatives:

    - no healing items on short cuts and therefore no healing animations like in RE5. You still have to pause the game to go into the item menu to heal. That takes the player out of the moment (most likely a fight)
    - I don't like to criticize specific people so much but the voice actor of Ada did a really bad job in this game and the performance is not worthy a game of this reputation.
    - the "You are dead" screen is just worse than the OG one. Why did they not keep that?
    - some death animations are either censored or poorly made. Some examples are: The Dr. Salvador kill from the front. The acid kill by Novistadors. The "fingers in the eye" animation (Leon's expression and the scream do not fit at all).
    - some reload animations do no feel so stylish and cool like in the OG
    - Although the OG soundtrack is still remixed in the game at some points, the new one can't reach this level of uneasiness that the OG one achieved    … Expand

    A very interesting take of the plot of RE4 , rather taking a way more serious tone , the characters are less campy and more insecure. I definitely like this change since its only natural to be more scared and insecure in a location full of insane crazy creatures. The gameplay is improved upon and I absolutely love the pary system.     It's so obvious that some attention whore (who likely don't even have the game), is making double accounts to review bomb this masterpiece. How sad and pathetic somebody needs to be to do something like that? Get a life loser. Hopefully no Youtuber/anyone really mentions it anywhere, because this loser doesn't deserve any attention.     This is most obvious GOTY of all time! As a Remake, it's amazing. As a standalone modern video game, it's amazing. It's fun, it's scary, it has action, it has horror. It's not just copy+paste "new graphics on old game", nope. This is, in many ways, expanded and updated version of RE4. I would say, 99% of the new addions and changes are absolutely welcomed and well done. Graphically itThis is most obvious GOTY of all time! As a Remake, it's amazing. This is, in many ways, expanded and updated version of RE4. I would say, 99% of the new addions and changes are absolutely welcomed and well done. Graphically it literally looks like "next-gen". Rain/storm looks great and makes it obvious that pre-release footage was just some "beta" stages.

    Obviously no game is perfect, i could always complain about something, anything (that goes for any game btw). But i almost don't want to, it's just as close to perfection as modern remake could be. Dead Space Remake was solid, very good. But this one is next level compared to that one.

    To bring out some negatives, as a die hard RE4 fan, i was obviously disappointed that U-3 was cut. U-3 had very interesting design and fight was fun and scary and would have worked perfectly in this new remake. I'm not really sure why the cut it, but i'm hopeful that maybe they are holding it for dlc.

    BUT that didn't break the game for me at all, everything else was great, most boss fights were amazing and expanded content helped as well. Atmosphere was absolutely flawless on all three locations (village,castle,island). Voice acting (for the most part) was great. My biggest surprise was Ashley, she was perfect! I was never huge Ashley fan, in the original she was extremely annoying, but in the remake she almost felt like new character (in a good way). Leon's voice acting was solid, as expected. Overall script/dialogue was also nice, i especially liked moments between Leon and Ashley.

    At the end of the day, i don't even care if it wins any awards, all i can say is, that it's very good game and that's the most important thing. But when development team puts so much passion into a project like this, i think it should be rewarded.    … Expand

    Amazing remake, grapichs are incredible, the little changes from the original actually adapt the game for a 2023 release. The gameplay is good, a bit clunky sometimes, especially with a lot of enemies to fight, but way better than the original.     Resident Evil 4 remake is everything I wanted! It’s great! However, I am very disappointed in the fact I put 13 hours in the game to make it to Luis’s lab and the key is gone. I’ve tried researching a fix, but so far no good.

    Capcom you have made an amazing job, the game just needs iron out some of the techincal issues, but they are minor on ps5. (Turn off chromatic    A masterpice!!     The original is my favorite game of all time. This is truly a love letter to the original. The combat is addictive. The game has truly terrifying moments, and every encounter is tense and stressful in the best way. The game is truly survival horror, whereas im not sure the original was.     Not sure why the user score is so low. I played this on ps5 and felt like it was a nearly perfect game. Didnt have any performance issues, it ran very well and I couldn’t stop playing it. Amazing, must play game

    Absolutley amazing game, with fun action and gameplay, an interesting story, and a great atmosphere!
    I think this is going to be one of my favourite games this year. I would highly recommend, as it is a great remake that has upgraded almost every aspect of the original.

    really love this remake, it's much more than a remake by the way, if we compare it to the most recent TLOU remake for the ps5 there is no possible debate, the work to be done is enormous, the sound design, graphics, level design, feedback of each weapon is unique and absolutely amazing. The work on the village and espicially the castle is remarkable.     Absolute 11/10 for me! Story‘s intriguing, locations beautiful and eerie, overall atmosphere on point. It IS different from the original PS4, which is why some may be disappointed, but therefore it‘s called reMAKE and not reMASTER! I‘ve enjoyed every minute of it.

    If you are scrolling through the user score, you will have already realized that RE4 is the most loved and hated title in the saga. I think it's worth checking out this reinvention that from my point of view does it justice and brings the original 2005 title back to our time. it's pretty good.

    As a Resident Evil fan, I pre-ordered this game.I'll tell you right away, it's the best remake of this series. Graphics, gameplay, Taptic feedback on PS5. That was the best time of my life. Ashley no longer has a strip of health and can be told to move away so that she doesn't get into the thick of fighting.

    Just finished resident evil 4 remake and I have to say what an amazing game even tho idid notice some issues with the ps5 versions visuals looking abit on the soft side it is a great edition to the resident evil series let's hope capcom remake code veronica next with that same love and attention

    I’m gonna be completely honest: I played very little of the original RE4, to where I didn’t know what to expect of the remake, but wow. This game blew the RE2 remake out of the water, and THAT game was considered a masterpiece. I love every square inch of this game, to where I’m now wanting to play the original to see how it compares (all the way through this time).     I would rate this an 11 if possible. Capcom is so far beyond most of their peers. They are in a golden age. The people running that studio, directing and producing these games, building the engine, have a tremendous vision and they know how to iterate. The open secret is that resident evil 4 did not need a remake. It was even re-released a year ago for VR. How many games from theI would rate this an 11 if possible. How many games from the early 2000’s can you think of that could be re-released today and still be received well? It’s an elite list of timeless games like RE4, Half Life 2 and a handful of others. It’s because they are good games that are fun to play and have such a quality art style that they are always nice to look at even though technology has moved forward. So no, RE4 doesn’t need a remake. A HD rerelease with new textures would have suited it fine (and some fans have already done this). But what we got is so f***ing good that it justifies its own existence. This is one of the best games ever all on its own. So thank you Capcom, again, for your dedication to quality from top to bottom: Concept, Art, Level Design, Combat, Graphics, Performance, Cinematics. This game excels in every category, and once again sets the benchmark for action horror.… Expand

    As a guy who’s played RE4 (2005) on the GameCube, Xbox 360 and in vr I can say without a shadow of a doubt this is quite possibly the best remake of a game ever made since RE2 back in 2019. At least in my opinion. From its visual overhaul/graphics, improved gameplay mechanics/combat, boss fights, environments, exploration, characters, it really sets the bar super high as to what a remakeAs a guy who’s played RE4 (2005) on the GameCube, Xbox 360 and in vr I can say without a shadow of a doubt this is quite possibly the best remake of a game ever made since RE2 back in 2019.     In a cringe post last of us world where everything has to be immersive and realistic. It is so refreshing to be back round house kicking and back flipping I miss the over the top resident evil games like 4/5/6. This is perfect.

I couldn't stop thinking about playing it some more when I took a break from it. Very rarely does a game hook me within the first few hours of playing it.

    - The main story is lengthier than RE 2's.
    - The AI is extremely intelligent and aggressive, forcing you to use every tool in your toolbox.
    - Movement is more fluid and less clunky than RE 2's.

    Mixed:

    - I still prefer RE 2's setting and atmosphere.
    - I could do without the blue papers. They don't add much to the experience.

    Negative:

    - Enemies can blow Leon up with dynamite while he performs a roundhouse kick. This problem may have been present in the original version. I wouldn't know; I never played it.

    Overall, this is not a must-play for fans of horror games. It is a must-play for anyone who plays games. Go out and buy it right now. I promise you will not regret it.    … Expand

    Capcom has made the effort to offer us a solid remake for this RE4. But not everything is perfect.

    On the technical side, I played the game on PS5 equipped with a VRR-enabled screen while switching between resolution without ray-tracing and Performance modes with RT. In both cases 60 fps stable (50fps for the resolution mode with RT), with a preference for the resolution mode because    Capcom has made the effort to offer us a solid remake for this RE4. But not everything is perfect.

    On the technical side, I played the game on PS5 equipped with a VRR-enabled screen while switching between resolution without ray-tracing and Performance modes with RT. In both cases 60 fps stable (50fps for the resolution mode with RT), with a preference for the resolution mode because honestly the RT does not bring much and the performance mode creates a slight blurring effect.
    I always find it difficult to form an opinion on the RE Engine, it still impresses me so much in the interiors, the modeling of the characters is correct but still this wax doll effect and I think it's a shame that a game like Uncharted 4 who is already 7 years old does much better. Outdoors the overall rendering remains good but some textures are bad. The rain is hideous and makes visibility complicated, moreover if you look towards the sky the rain simply disappears, average...

    RE4 remains a game with generous content, passages have been removed, others have been created, it suits me perfectly, the rhythm is very good despite a somewhat repetitive corridor/arena structure but difficult to do otherwise in the genre.

    I really liked the gameplay, I didn't find Leon too heavy, perhaps a possible slowness in aiming but which can be adjusted to suit its convenience in the options which are numerous. Small disappointment on certain phases such as the fight against Del Lago which allows itself to be less good, less epic than in the original. On PS5 excellent use of triggers and haptic feedback which offer very good sensations in exploration as in combat.

    In conclusion, very satisfied with this remake, which is at least a real game worthy of the name, with a real playful interest and its press ratings are quite understandable unlike a certain Hogwarts Legacy. A greatly improved visual and gameplay, a scenario also made less kitsch, it's a real pleasure to explore this universe, solve the puzzles, find all the treasures, do the side quests. It's been a long time since I said that, thanks Capcom.    … Expand

    It wasn’t bad but I didn’t see it as ground breaking. Some people just ride the re train. Y’all saying fane reviews well say to other games done the same way. Re isn’t even close to the best game series, but it’s a good game.

    A very faithful remake to the original source material. While the level design has changed significantly, the overall feel and atmosphere is perfectly preserved. While some sections feel trundicated slightly there is plenty of additional content which expands on the original game which keeps things fresh with some welcome surprises. Quite a refreshing experience compared to the original. Playing it on hardcore right from the start was incredibly challenging but not impossible.     Amazing. The story was great and was interesting 10/10 and the gameplay is a 10/10. The controls are super smooth and responsive. It feels really tense to play and it's full of creepy unexpected moments that make it scary without resorting to cheap jumpscares. The atmosphere sound design and music are all incredible.     The story of the game is a mediocre story, the gameplay is very enjoyable and attractive, in terms of visuals, it is equal to Cross Gen 2023 games and has a stunning visual, the main boss fights are very similar to each other. The sound design of the game is wonderful, the enemies have a good variety and only one new type of enemy has been added to the remake compared to the original version.

    Resident Evil 4 Remake not only does right by its original source of inspiration, but it also sets a high bar for what modern day remakes can be. All components of the story have been finetuned into a more well-thought out package, and that’s before mentioning the game’s full use of today’s graphical prowess to deliver a more terrifying interpretation of rural Spain. The core gameplay also retains what made it so great back in the day, but with modern amenities such as a parrying system, quick-select for weapons and the ability to run. And despite the new improvements, the increased aggressiveness of the enemies ensures that the game never feels like a cakewalk. I don’t know who still needs to be convinced at this point, but Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece that I cannot recommend enough.
