Just a good rpg. Graphics are awesome and fun gameplay. Good weapons and controls, maybe a little too long to get through the dialogue but still good.

The world design, it is top quality, there may be hiccups for you if you do play, but for me, in my experience I had none. The Quests are done extremely well, there wasn't a ton of fetch quests, and if there was a fetch quest if was for a goal, (either to help you or another character in finding something or someone who needed help.) I think very highly of this game, though you may not feel the same, I do believe this game to be the best game I've played so far, I recommend it to anyone who'd like to try it. I would also recommend trying out the first one, Horizon Zero Dawn, or if you've played it before, and enjoyed that one, or may not have enjoyed. I recommend trying the game and ride it out, it was a blast to play. It brought emotions to me, and shows the feeling written about the sleeve. Hope you enjoy as well if you buy it yourself. Expand

I had all conditions to play the game but I can't because all my thoughts were about the war against my country...

And finally when things became more or less stable I continued with the game to distract my attention for news. So after almost 90 hours in game I've got the platinum trophy and it's like finishing a great book or good movie – I don't want to farewell this world.

The game is much bigger and complex than first part, quests are written in Witcher style so there are no courier missions. And what is great that almost all side quests are connected somehow with the main story so they are treated very consistent. Graphics is probably the best in open world games. Combat system was awesome in Zero Dawn. Here it is even better and more complex. You can beat the game with just default bow and arrows or you can use all kinds of way to destroy machines. It's up to you and that's great.

So looking forward for 3rd part which will be PS5 only so nextgen so can't even think about how it will look :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had high hopes for this game but it doesn't deliver. The people saying it's a masterpiece have never played an actual AAA game. It's beautiful, yes, absolutely polished. A polished turd. Not an open world as it claims, as you cannot go anywhere the developers don't want you to go. Aloy has become useless, and it's sad. She was amazing and now as a character she is limited. I guess Sony was bothered by a strong woman. What's frustrating is that at one point she can do everything, climb to the highest peak, and then you run into a small rock that a six year old could climb and she can't do it. Being forced to have to only use the yellow grab bars to climb like an old Nintendo game ruins the gameplay and gets extremely frustrating. An example would be the Restless Weald relic. You have to jump up to a rope that is blocked by the doorway and because she is so extremely limited it's impossible. Apparently Sony doesn't think women are smart enough to, yknow, reach. She has become a damsel in distress rather than the badass banger she was. This is very disappointing. A huge step backwards for Sony, who is clearly losing their edge as their getting wiped by Xbox. After this, I'm honestly not excited about anymore PS Exclusives. They just don't care anymore and just produce crap like LJN. I just hope some of these other "gamers" expand their library and play a properly developed game. Expand

Doing as all sequels should aspire to, this game took everything that made the original great and made it even better. A story that makes you gasp, lovable characters both old and new to journey with, stunning visuals, pleasing music, intense combat, more quests and exploration are just some of the many ways this game has soared to greater heights than its predecessor.

Taking place immediately after the events of the first game, Forbidden West doesn't try to cater to new players in the slightest and instead directly reaches to the players who not only played the first game, but also played the side missions and DLC. This love of embracing the world and story they created is felt immediately as it shows nothing in this game is meaningless - everything down to the side quests and data you find has relevance, and sometimes returns in the best possible way. Not only are the characters deeper and more expressive in this game, but the way you interact with them has vastly improved with conversation animations and increased dialog as the game goes on. Every side quest has unique cutscenes which makes them feel equal to the main story quests, with the only difference between the two being cutscene quality. This is where Forbidden West shined the brightest for me as I was always invested in every character and their story even if they weren't apart of the main cast, and made the whole journey more emotional as a result. The best part is there are dozens of these quests, so at every twist and turn there are isolated stories just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.

With a bigger, more diverse, and more beautiful world, exploration feels better than ever. No matter where you stop to look the scenery is screenshot worthy, with music playing that's soothing and relaxing. The soundtrack in general is a real knockout with occasionally full songs playing during major story events, making the overall game feel more cinematic at ever step. Several new machines with incredible designs were added that look just as intense as they are to fight, and the game arms you with lots of new weapons and status ailments to take them on. No matter where you look, there's always something new to find.

It's hard to say in only a few short words how big of a payoff this Horizon Forbidden West is, but there are few sequels I think are as incredible as this one. In every element and respect of what you could love from the original there's simply more of it here. More story, deeper plot. More characters, with greater development. More open world, with more machines filling it out and things to find. More quests, with even more varying types of missions. This game is a true achievement in not only how far the team has come since the first game, but how far open world games have come in five years by delivering the perfect balance of a cinematic masterpiece and an exploration game. I loved the original game, but it's sequel is one I'm in love with. I can now proudly say with two amazing entries that the Horizon franchise is one of Playstation's absolute finest, and a must play for everyone.

    Ubisoft clone, poor controls/aiming

At its heart its a Ubisoft clone, you know the big map with hundreds of icons you go and chase. If anything Ubisoft games, as boring as they are, still offer a ton more customization and things to do outside of their main quest, HFW not so much. I'm always baffled at the positive reviews, then turning around to see Ubisoft games get negative reviews.

Combat: Really meh bordering on bad. First there is no target locking, the game does soft target lock you and sort of guide you to hit the right thing, which makes melee feel like you are on auto pilot. The camera is horrendous, going every which way as you try to position yourself. The true Achilles heel, as admittedly with all PS games, is the controller aiming. For a game that is built on aiming being the primary combat mode, it's just god-awfully difficult. You can play around with the mouse settings, and the ability to slightly aim by gyro does help out a touch, but at the end of the day what the game really needed as keyboard/mouse support. So while Sony deserves some blame for continuing to use their crappy controller paradigm instead of fixing the issue (see Steam Deck touch controls for an example of a company trying to make things better). But at the same time HFW's devs are free to offer keyboard/mouse support. To make things worse they locked the game to the DS5 controller, which means you can't use aftermarket gadgets like the XIM Apex to enable keyboard/mouse support. This makes the bow combat incredibly clunky and just utterly disappointing. Sure you get better the more you practice, but you never ever leave that feeling where you know most of your shots were finished by the aim assist.

Graphics: A decent enough looking game running on my LG CX Oled screen, but not particularly better looking than the last gen. Nowhere as nice as something running on my GTX3070, but then again it shouldn't be since its so much cheaper.

Misc: Clunky seems to be the right word for most of this Ubisoft clone. Climbing, for example, is really bad. In Ubisoft games you can at least just climb everywhere, but in HFW you can only climb certain spots and you can't even see them unless you constantly toggle on your focus. So you will routinely be unable to scale a small outcropping smaller than your height because it's not designated as a climb spot. Clunky.

Misc2: Looting. Wow, I almost thought the point of the game was to loot and nothing else. You will easily spend 30-40% just looting supplies and crap. The say the combat works you will be constantly healing yourself, applying pots, buffs, making arrows and other consumables, etc. You can only carry a certain amount, which means you are constantly looting, even in the middle of a fight! Come on guys, I get that timesinks are necessary to slow people down, but making this a loot fest just sucks. And that's with the "easy loot" setting and turning loot animations off.

Bottom line: $70? Hell no. $20 sale, sure it's a good time sink for a weekend with some pizza. Included in Sony's sub, even better.

Deserving of the highest praise, H:FW is the best western style open world since Ghost of Tsushima. Whilst it lacks the depth of the combat of Elden Ring, the world building in H:FW is way beyond anything that From Software has ever managed. It is.beautiful to behold and utterly compelling. The story and character arcs are well crafted and accessible. Utterly brilliant.

    Pros:
    - Best graphics in 2022.
    - Beautiful open world with amazing and varied environments.
    - Everything is improved from Horizon Zero Dawn, literally everything.
    - All characters, NPCs included are motion capped. It's crazy!
    - Story had very interesting twists!
    - Varied amount of weapons & armors that allow different playstyles.

    Cons:
    - This game favors more exploration than combat. You can spend literally 1 hour on a quest cause this game is filled with puzzles. This can make the game very tedious.
    - Several bugs & crashes.
    - It is true, the excesive use of fog to hide pop in is really annoying. This could be cause of PS4 not being able to render the game as fats as the PS5.
    - Several stuttering in Performance mode.

The game is definetly a 9, however, the game came out with a lot bugs, crashes and areas of improvement for Performance mode, so I'm taking 1 point because of that.

I hope we get a sequel to continue this VERY interesting story and focusing a little bit more on combat than exploration. Anyway, PS is still killing it with amazing experiences!

Superb game on PS5. The story continues from where Horizon Zero Dawn finished and plunges Aloy into some surprising plot twists. The amount of thought that went into the production of this game is amazing, from the new tribes, the music, armor, weapons, combat tactics, and of course, the vast open world detail. This game is one for the ages!

Some of the core gampeplay mechanics return, but with new addition of few tools and challenging machines, its never a dull moment. Inventory management, the traps/potions HUD, skill tree can feel little overwhelming but that's negligible.
I preferred the option of using stealth and striking off few enemies in the location before going on full combat mode. It was rewarding and felt simpler. Much more variety of weapons, traps etc available compared to 1st game which helps us try different approaches. Lots of meaningful of side quests and other activities to spend plenty of hours.

Coming to the PS5 features, I played in performance mode and the graphics was simply beautiful. Brilliant use of haptic feedback & adaptive triggers and some great sound effects especially machine sounds. Excellent background score all the way. Must play for all PlayStation gamers.

Story has setup for another sequel, waiting to see what Guerrilla games has to offer next.

A huge amount of grind for upgrades, all-consuming fem agenda, a mechanic with braking off spare parts (for example, you need to break off the tail to death of the car, otherwise the tail will "self-destruct"), although the mechanics can be disabled in the settings. On the latest upgrades of orange things, you need to farm the same creatures over and over again.

A lot of things have been done "do not give a damn". For example, in one of the skyscrapers you need to get into the room to pick up the ornament, but on the side of the room there is a "wall" made of a fence with cells in 2 Aloy, but you cannot get inside. Invisible walls or the inability to climb where an ordinary person could easily do it in 2022 is very annoying. In one of the side quests, the water simply flows from the "switch" for water, I can't call it anything else. Although even the pipes do not go to the "breaker", only the supports on which it holds.

Hook-cat breaks the whole gameplay. It would be possible to catch on "over there", but no, crawl around for a few more minutes. And at the end of the game from the obstacles "first pull here and there, and then climb up" starts to feel sick.

People who, in an ordinary mask, can tank arrows with their heads annoys a lot. Metal vehicles fall apart from the arrows, but people normally tank them (a broken neck says hello), okay. Here you can write off the RPG elements, but it looks bad.

Machine racing (although there are only 4 of them) are annoying because your machine can simply slow down sharply and stop in a small area, because path-finding is very bad and they don’t know how to jump over obstacles. In the same Witcher 3 (2015, let me remind you), the behavior of the horse is much better and more convenient.

Even after a few months from the release, there are some bugs, because of which you have to start from the checkpoint.

Seems like the focus in development was shifted to the fem agenda, rather than the overall quality of the game.

I beat it on hightest difficulty and I would set 7.5 without taking into the fem agenda, 6.5 with it.
And if it's GOTY, then the gaming industry of single-player games is in a big trouble.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Horizon Forbidden West - A great game for the most part, but let down by little things that begin to add up. FW offers a lot for the player who is willing to sink the hours in. The trouble is, will you? Over my near 36 hours on this title I can’t say I put it down overwhelmed or astonished. Though there were moments that truly sent a shiver down my spine for their uniqueness (desert/Las Vegas moment with the embers lighting it all up), they are often let down by lengthy tunnel/dungeon crawls. It seems the devs decided to ‘drag’ out this title imo. Every. Single. Thing. You do, you ride for ages, get there, then the cliche ‘oh but you must help me first’. It’s really beginning to grind my gears with open world games. The two just don’t combine well. At all. Yet developers seem to have a massive hard on for it. This coupled with the not so smooth or fluent movement system in this game which has you climbing objects and walls where Aloy will be fine then suddenly grind to a halt, or fail to grab the object in the first place. Though this didn’t happen to me a lot, it was enough to sour my taste for any exploration in the game. It’s unique at first, but soon the cauldrons and delves, every where you go for anything quest or story related often involves going underground. I don’t want to. I have this lush and gorgeous open world up above? It’s things like this, the constant move x to x position, carry heavy object to position, grapple this into place, tear off this grill. It’s repetitive and gets boring, all to quick because you do it over and over and we have been in games for years now. Aether was my favourite, shortly followed by Neptune. But the rest of the game just fell flat for me, with no real compelling element apart from the Far Zenith. Beta could have been this fantastic character along with the others you encounter which are genuinely great! But the relationship between B and Aloy? It just didn’t make sense. How can Aloy be so compassionate and caring for strangers, yet a clone, who is evidently a vital component to progressing she has an almost teenager outburst at because shes been forced her entire creation? It’s things like this that choked up the story for me. So by the time I’d collected the first three Gaia nodes I was simply burnt out. The pacing just wasn’t great, I firmly believe the game could have benefited from shortening the main story just that smidge, then allowing you to do some of the beautifully crafted side missions. 7/10 - The graphics while superb don’t redeem a clunky cluster fudge of a story and mediocre (I’m talking worst than the original AC) climbing mechanics. Whilst the combat feels as fresh and as fun as ever, I was hoping for a lot more from this game considering the world on offer. Maybe it’s just because I got burnt out on the story, but it would of been fantastic to see more of it incorporated instead of shoving me underground constantly. Add on the lengthy travel times until you can fly, (which comes far to late imo) I wonder where they will take this next. Guerilla did a fine job for the most part and I certainly cannot fault their vision for design etc. But clear up the muddy pacing, poor movement and give us more of this open world. Also a fix for both VRR and Fidelity. As of may 2022 it is still choppy and extremely nauseating to play. I stuck to performance. Btw please bring back Killzone. Reboot plz. They were fantastic titles. Expand

The overriding question Horizon Forbidden West left me with is ‘when will its prospective audience grow tired of the tired conventions that underwrite so many go-and-save-the-world adventure games?’ As much as I appreciated the fun that came from smashing up dinosaur robots, Horizon Forbidden West won’t earn a spot in my long-term memory.

This game is very well rounded. I did have some minor issues with this game however. There were a few glitches here and there with machines getting stuck in walls, but nothing major. Story - comparing with the first part of Horizon, it is worse in story conception, but the whole direction of cutscenes is far more better. The thing that irritated me the most is ending. As I recall the ending of first not that cliffhanger as it is in Forbidden West.Because in the end this game shows you new external threat to the world and characters discover that and then… credits. In that moment I was like: And that is how the game ended?! seriously I think that the biggest minus in this game is ending. But in other aspects story is not bad nor good.
-The Open World.I’m getting sick of the open world games in a while, but because of the beauty and some creative missions in this game I’ve gotta admit that this world is awfully good.It interesting to explore and find Relic Ruins (To solve platforming puzzle and discover the history of the location ), also Tallnecks are I the game ( as I name them - The most interesting Ubisoft-like towers to undercover the map ), Covers are also very good in their presentation and it provides interesting way to complete them, and so on.
-Mistakes from the previous game improved in this game- Facial animation is became Naughty Dog-Like if I may say so myself ;) , and dialogues became far more dynamic comparing with the first game.
-Also there’s a lot of memorable sequences in the game. For me it is- Las Vegas (no spoilers here every player must experience by him/herself), "First Flight" on machine, Final Boss , Beta appearance, Silences secrets and Hades these moments were really interesting for me.
After completing this game, and getting platinum in it I can recommend this game to those who have competed the first part ( obviously ), and to all PS5 owners. Also game has a really easy platinum, so you can try to obtain it after completing the main storyline.

In H:FW Guerilla delivers a beautiful, huge open world set in the post-apocalyptic American west (Utah, Nevada, California), in which the player can discover new places, new machines, and new stories. So far, I spent 130+ hours with Aloy in this world and still haven't achieved 100% completion or fully unfogged the map. With that being said, I don't feel like I wasted my time: I want to go back in!

Besides the improvements in graphics and gameplay, I especially enjoyed all the additional animations and dialogue options with NPCs (exhaust them all & regularly speak with your friends - there's some intriguing lore that's easily missable!), the general quality of side quests (Witcher 3 level!), and the environmental storytelling (Naughty Dog level!)! One can tell the high production value of this game from any of those aspects.

My only gripe with Horizon Forbidden West - and the reason why it's not 10/10 for me - is the main story. Similar to H:ZD, the start is slow (which is fine) and creates opportunity for some mind-blowing reveals or story twists. However, the writers chose to play it very safe, with a 3rd game in mind, and ultimately failed to deliver on a convincing endgame. This was much better realized in H:ZD. Still, it's not a bad story by any means. There are some really cool story beats and moments in Horizon Forbidden West and, once NG+ is released, I will give it another go and main-line the game. Sometimes, a second more condensed play through is needed to fully appreciate the developer's vision.

This reduces the satisfaction i get out of the game. Another thing i dont like is the lack of originality. Its obvious they copied a lot from assassins creed for example. Expand

But Elden Ring comparisons aside, it started off enjoyable but by the end, i wanted the platinum and to be over with. The whole aiming for the sweet spot on machines gets pretty old fast as it gets frustrating when you can barely hit it 80 percent of the time in slow motion. I don't think I ever even sold any valuables, bought anything, rarely needed to change too much gear because there's so many options and most aren't even necessary to complete the game with. The incentive for exploration or to do side quests is really non-existant as there's no need for useless reward. Characters are pretty lame as well. Story wasn't as good either. It just looked so damn good that it's an accomplishment but doesn't matter how good it looks if gameplay gets monotonous. Overall, it starts out fun, then kinda drags by half way point to sum it up. Would give 6.5 Expand

What a selfish act to give this masterpiece a bad score just because PlayStation is not working in Kazakhstan. Then I realized the Disc version was in a different region than the DLC version, and when I requested a refund, PSN said that since I downloaded the content already, there was no way they could refund the 10USD. What I never considered is to criticize Guerrilla Games or the Horizon product for a Sony PlayStation problem. What you are doing is so selfish, giving a game you haven't played yet a score of 1 just because PSN does not work in your country is a complete disregard for the creator's work!!! You are not even bothering PlayStation with this, only the people who worked to create the game and us who enjoy it. Man, I just can't believe how selfish people are!!!

Horizon II is everything I expected and more. Everything is improved upon. What a masterpiece. I just need the new game plus option, so I can experience the story again without the heavy grind for equipment & skills. Took me more than 80+ hours to complete the story with all side quests. Keep in mind that sometimes I would spend a lot of time just taking in the beautiful world and amazing graphics.

Even with the cliffhanger of a new threat at the end, I don't think we are going to see the 3rd entry in this IP. When Zero Dawn was revealed, I thought the whole concept of a girl shooting down dinosaur robots with bow and arrow to be such a dumb concept, I still think that now. But despite that, both Horizon I & II have become one of my favorite games of all time :)

There’s nothing particularly wrong here. But it’s all incredibly boring.
Gameplay wise, there’re no significant changes from the first game. Admittedly there’re a few neat additions that make traversal and exploration easier. But overall, there’re no big risks taken. If you enjoyed the first game, and wanted 40 or so more hours of that, then this will be a good purchase for you.

Characterisation is very poor, everybody is flawlessly good, or unapologetically bad, and needs to be punished. There’re no attempts at comedy, or controversial opinions shared. It’s all very safe. This coupled with frequent, long cut scenes makes things drag on quite a bit. Basically, it’s quite bland. Now, I'm not saying everybody needs to be cracking jokes left, right and centre like we’re in some kind of Marvel movie. But the game takes itself way too seriously.

In the first game, there’s a massive sense of mystery right from the off set. In Forbidden West, while there’re questions to be answered, the big ones were tied up by the first game. This feels more like a big piece of dlc that a warranted continuation of Zero Dawn.

    TLDR: Big Ubisoft game.

the amount of work that must have gone into this game to make the environments and characters so beautiful and immersive makes me very happy about the advancement of video games the same. you can see how huge the improvements of the graphics are from the first game to this. the story is interesting and doesn't feel like it's just a carbon copy of the first game. i highly recommend it.

Nice, but maybe too classic? This game often shines when it comes to highlighting its universe, its history and its stakes. By contrast, the open world is still too big for nothing, with lots of uninteresting areas that don't reward exploration. But the game has a lot of highlights, and a very well-honed gameplay around the machines.

Good game! It is unfortunate that many users around the world are not able to play this game due to "political games". The community of Kazakhstan, more than 50,000 users, is ready to buy and enjoy the game. But unfortunately we do not have PSN in the Kazakhstan region. I hope you hear our requests. Gameplay is good
Graphics are neat but framerate suffers
Concept for the story is neat
Costume and enemy design is unique

The characters and the writing are terrible! Everyone is unlikable including the main protagonist. To the point where it's difficult to take the story seriously.

This was a highly anticipated game for me after loving Zero Dawn. I put 80 odd hours into Forbidden West and honestly, the longer it went the less I enjoyed it. For a game that had such amazing lore and story elements to draw from, I was stunned at the boring and unnecessarily convoluted direction Guerilla took with the story Forbidden West. Actually, that's just the thing with this game...it's boring. There is none of the mystery of Zero Dawn, the map is littered with icons and Aloy talks you through every step of the game leaving nothing to the imagination. The characters have little to no emotion and drone on with ramblings of tribal conflicts and issues that are difficult to care about. The game is extremely dialogue heavy and much of it is painfully mundane which caused me to skip whole sections of it despite never feeling the need to do so in any other game. Exploration is borderline pointless due to the aforementioned icon mess telling you where everything is. This is a Ubisoft "Map Game" in that regard, make no mistake.

Forbidden West pretty but it isn't the generational leap in visuals that the original reveal trailers suggested. In fact the game has a grainy, noisy look which detracts from the visuals and is quite distracting after the clean image of Zero Dawn. The underwater sections were heavily advertised adoring the marketing by are simply poor. Not only are they visually underwhelming compared to the trailers but the movement is clunky and there's no way to attack underwater. I avoided swimming sections where possible.

Glitches and bugs abound here which is disappointing after the quality experience of Zero Dawn. Aloy is routinely stuck between rocks, melee execution animations don't even connect with enemies half the time, Aloy fell through the map a number of times, enemies die in mid-air, NPC glitches prevent being able to finish certain quests, aome icons don't clear from the map after completion etc etc...

The newly introduced grapple hook is half-baked and can only be used in pre-determined locations. The same can be said for climbing. Why can Aloy climb one wall but not this identical wall a few meters beside it? The glider isn't fun. It loses elevation too quickly and seems as though it has been deliberately nerfed to prevent freely exploring areas Guerilla doesn't want you to be. The list goes on. Many of the problems Forbidden West has are poor design choices but some are clearly as a result of hardware limitations. The game is indeed a technical achievement on last-gen PS4 hardware but no doubt the game was compromised as a result of being bound to said ancient tech as a baseline. Sadly, God of War: Ragnarok may suffer the same fate. Let's hope not. If you got this far, thank you. Just one more thing. I'm not at all a fan of From Softwares games but Elden Ring is the total opposite of Forbidden West and being so, avoids all of Guerillas mistakes. The "Ubisoft Map Game" style is dated and stale whilst Elden Ring was fresh. That's Elden Ring completely buried Horizon II: Forbidden West.

Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla's best game to date, taking Aloy to new heights with a blockbuster release that meets the high standards set by PlayStation in recent years. While it's totally worth fans jumping in on day one, it's perhaps better to wait a few weeks until all the bugs are ironed out.

Horizon Forbidden West is exactly what everyone thought it would be: an amazing game. It has an open world with plenty of things to do and places to explore, fights against some really well-developed machines and stunning visuals. The feeling is that the second game of the series improves on what was already great, and it feels rewarding and fun to play. It is another single-player masterpiece from Sony.
