Too much forced wook for me. Alloy is annoying, treats everyone with superiority and boredom. Repetitive quests.

This game is really fun and visualy impressive. But the world a little "too big" for my liking and became almost a drag after 20-30 hours.
Eventhough the side contents is handled way more efficienly than your average "Ubisoft open-world checklist", the world in itself should be more condensed to reduce gaming time and redundancy feeling.
And I feel also that there is maybe a little too

And I feel also that there is maybe a little too much game-mechanics. I do not understand the need of modern games to overcomplexify and adding more layer of gameplay for the sake of "making it worth your money".
Apart from that, this game is amazing with its world building, machine design and character building.
    A must have.

I feel the exact same way about Forbidden West as I did about Zero Dawn. The puzzle structure is incredibly uninspired, melee combat clunky and unsatisfying as in Zero Dawn and the constant looting is a curse that you will never be free of in this game - THERE IS WAY, WAY TOO MUCH LOOTING. Despite the open world also being largely affected by these issues, its quality is completely subjective, but I do think comparatively it is pretty strong. In essence, it is simply an expansion to Zero Dawn, a safe move by Guerilla Games, one that you can't fault but also have to feel some disappointment in. Expand

Horizon Forbidden West overall improves on pretty much everything about Zero Dawn, but I just think the changes to the weapon system specifically go a bit too far in overcorrecting and I hope they get tooled back a tiny bit in the third game. The game improves the base that constitutes the first entry of the franchise, a wider range of weapons, enemies and secondary characters. The narrative is well-paced and side quests are far more interesting and engaging. Outstanding visuals and immersive atmosphere.

The real kicked however is the battle system gameplay. Everything about it was obnoxious from top to bottom, clunky, prolonged, just a chore with no sense of reward or achievement.

Thankfully I am more interested in the open-world elements than the gameplay, so overall I still walked out with positive feelings overall, but unless there is a total rework of the fighting system I won't be pursuing further games in this series.

Good game. Not ideal, there are questions to the plot. But the combat, the variety of mobs and bosses, the huge world and the atmosphere as a whole kept it strong. I spent 90 hours in the game, cleared the map by less than half, if you do everything that is, it will probably take the same amount of time. Made it platinum.

The new mobility options were pretty great, and the late game flying was incredible, but it's heard to match the first time I ever fought a robo-dinosaur...

The story wasn't quite as poignant as Zero Dawn, but was a worthy second effort, and didn't damage the legacy the first game, which is more than many sequels can claim.

Ultimately, I got more Horizon, which is what I wanted, and the fact it's *almost* as good as the first game puts it miles ahead of most games out there.

Combat is varied and satisfying, though I would say it improves massively around halfway once you have most of the weapons and abilities. It can be quite repetitive and frustrating at times, early on, and a bit overwhelming given how much there is to learn. As for the criticisms...

Platforming/climbing is sub par compared to the likes of Tomb Raider and Uncharted.

I found the story a convoluted Macguffin chase, with the writers struggling to hold together a compelling plot, plus a cliffhanger ending leaving it feeling somewhat unfinished. The cutscenes keep the sometimes tedious and overwrought dialogue of the original. Some interesting ideas though, and the overall world is still fascinating. Sylens is the highlight as far as characters go.

The armour and weapons upgrade system is overly convoluted, it took 5 hours just to find the resources I needed to fully upgrade my bow and armour set and by that point it wasn’t worth using as I found a higher level weapon which then also needed hours of grinding resources to upgrade. The machine combat is where this game shines just like the first game. The designs are spectacular and the fights can really be something special, this is the games strong point.

The story is nowhere near as engaging or as interesting as the first game.

New rideable mounts are cool but still feel very restricted and “janky”

Now, the worst part of this game, combat vs human enemies! The human enemies are tougher than thunder jaws and hit harder than them too. One section of the game (without spoilers) involves fighting a group of human enemies in a cave system. This was the jankiest combat experience and just wasn’t fun at all. I was clipping into walls, falling off edges, being locked into consistent stagger animations and my melee attacks were doing next to zero damage. The melee combat and human enemy combat needs a complete revamp! The best way to deal with humans is stealth and even that gets repetitive and frustrating when enemies will see you through a wall or your stealth kill triggers a generic melee attack instead resulting in the entire basing knowing your location. Side quests are decent but a lot of them are just fetch quests or go here and kill this thing. Pretty disappointed with how this one turned out. I hope Horizon 3 changes the issues I have above because in my opinion they ruin the game for me, I just didn’t find it fun.

Secondary tasks are added as if absolutely for the sake of appearance and are of no interest. Together with a disgusting level design, in which the player's route is sometimes completely illogical.
I liked the first part, but the second does not bring anything new and interesting, but rather the opposite, the new content, which was added as if for show, is more of an annoyance than an interest. Considering that Sony has a lot of games in this setting, it is clearly inferior in uniqueness.

I was so excited to see the continuation of what was supposed to be a dynamic spunky and witty redhead take on new and exciting puzzles, machines and historical conflicts. What we got instead was the poor product of developers working from home. I think I'm not the first to say that I would have been more than fine with waiting until the world could heal from Covid so the game could actually have been made properly and with love. I can completely understand how this game wasn't even nominated as "Game of The Year" its unimaginative storyline, annoying characters and the inability for anything part of the game to be properly saturated is so infuriating. The game menu (where the notebook, inventory and map can be found) is too dark and outdated. When looking at dyed outfits you can barely see a difference between a bright fuschia and a deep blue because they both look brown with the incredibly dark and ugly background making everything look muddy and prehistoric. Then when you traverse the excessive map you have to look away from half the sights because the colors make you nauseous and leave you with a piercing headache (as if Varl and any of the other characters don't already). Aloy becomes this stand-of-ish character that has no head and wants to just bruteforce everything as compared to the shy and pessimistic clever girl she was. I think it would be tolerable if the other characters from the previous game didn't give Aloy such a hard time for leaving to SAVE THE WORLD!! The puzzles are pretty hard and leave players scanning over and over as they try to remember what tools they have and what controls it takes to use. Not to mention that most grappling points are finicky at best and most of the time leave Aloy falling from great heights which force you to do the climb all over again. I was so excited when I got a preview of the new cool tools we would be getting in the new game (the glider especially) it turned out to be even more disappointing. The glider mostly falls and doesn't actually take Aloy anywhere but down. The spears are cool but getting them to hit their target is as frustrating as listening to Varl flirt with his tree hugging girlfriend. I wanted so much for this game to be great and was so disappointed by the outcome. I guess that's you get for getting your coding degree via Zoom. Expand

Horizon Forbidden West is a really good sequel and improves on the first game in many ways. Not everything is better mind you but overall I think it's a net positive. I'll start with the Pros and then move on to the Cons:
+ combat is more weighty and has been expanded greatly with new machines, gear, status effects, abilities, etc.
+ traversal has been improved. I won't spoil anything but there are more and really fun options to get around the game world. And if you want to fast travel that stuff loads super fast on PS5
+ the graphics look amazing. Not just the lush environments but also the massive upgrades to character rendering as well as character and facial animations. Dialog sequences no longer look awkward like they did during the first game.
+ The writing and performances are improved compared to the first game. I enjoyed the story and characters a lot in this game. It's of course tough to follow up the mysteries that were established and uncovered during the first game but I really liked what they did in the sequel and it was only elevated by the performances. Even side quest had great production value.
+ They did a lot to switch things up in the open world to prevent things like the Tallnecks or Cauldrons from becoming stale.

However not everything has been improved and in some cases it is clear they tried to improve things but unfortunately missed the mark. So here are the negatives:
    - Combat is more weighty but almost to the point of feelings sluggish. While traversal has been sped up, combat has been slowed down. Some of the windups and staggering animations on Aloy are overdone in my opinion. Particularly annoying to me was how long the focus requires to scan enemies and reveal their weaknesses. The game is harder as a result of these things.
    - The game leans more into being an RPG and can be kinda overwhelming and confusing with all the new stuff it throws at you. Unlike the first game I feel like you need a guide before starting the game to learn about all the new stuff and how to engage with it.
    - The open world is great but exploration is progression locked. Do not make the mistake I made: don't go exploring the game world before you have unlocked 4 important quest items from the main story. You will know what I'm talking about once you have started playing. Without these items you will constantly run into quests and places that you can't actually access because you are missing those items.
    - The game is slightly overwritten. There is a lot of dialoge and you can typically skip optional dialoge options because they don't add much other than dragging the conversation on even longer.
-the climbing has changed but still sucks. It's still super inconsistent what can and can't be climbed and the climing itself can feel awkward.

Overall a fantastic open world game with great combat, a well directed story and some minor nitpicks.

While Forbidden West isn’t perfect, it’s definitely one of the best games of the year. The combat is some of the best I’ve seen in an open world setting, the open world is breathtaking and dense, and the characters are much more emotive and detailed which makes so much easier to connect to. Graphics usually aren’t really all that important to me, but… this game is absolutely amazing to look at. The only problems I have are the story. The first game had this story about humans triumphing over machines. It was pretty grounded in the only way that a story of people fighting robot dinosaurs can. Forbidden West gets really sci-fiy. Gameplay: Definitely much better than HZD with so many weapons to choose from and with far better skills tree. Also, customization option on several things is so great such as easy loot, sprint option, bypassing resource pick up animation etc.

Dualsense: I loved some of the dualsense features in the game when you use a bow, pry door open, walk through tall grass etc.

Machines: New machines are awesome, especially Slaughterspine, Clawstrider and of course Sunwing which makes exploring so much fun in NG+. I completed main story after exploring most of the map in my first playthrough.

Armors: A lot of new armors to choose from. I love transmog feature to use best armor but use look of any other good looking armors. Load times are almost negligible most of the times. I didn't even like the original one that much but began to enjoy it near the end. There seems to be no real consideration for how the combat should be handled, which can often lead to a game that feels freeing but with the lack of movement speed that Aloy has, the enemy attacks that slide across the ground to catch up to you in a full sprint, and near uselessness of the spear, it ends up being a very linear combat system. Horizon Zero Dawn is a wonderfully crafted game graphically but almost everything else about it seems like it was done by an amateur. Even character models reacting in conversations often looks robotic and out of place. Aloy is one of the worst protagonists in an recent game I've played, and her voice actress has continued to do a horrible job. It feels like the people that created this game started out in graphics and should have stayed there but somebody mistook their talent for something more.

*Too much of the same weapons to waste metal shards on
*THE F**KING DIALOGUE!!!! Ik the 1st game had a lot but it was needed to tell the crazy story. This time around was ridiculous. It made me skip thru just so I could start playing again and made me not want to keep playing at all.

Overall a really great game. Engaging mechanics, lots to do, a fantastic story with likable characters.

My only beef is that the climbing mechanics suck, and for some odd reason every NPC is LGBT. No problem with them but it knocks your immersion a bit when every other NPC is a minority orientation.

Good game. But i liked the first one better. I played it on normal difficulty. Overall it was too much of a grind.

    4. the last hunting grounds and the arena challenges were also super hard. felt like a chore. i spent a few hours grinding at those challenges.
    5. upgrading the legendary equipment: i think i killed the apex Slaugherspine 10 times without getting it's heart. and that mofo is hard to kill.

i fear that this franchise will turn into an assassins creed.

Summary: Good game, with poor developing choices

The graphics are beautiful, and the game knows this by showing you the landscape from high ledges more than one time during the main story and side missions. The former is nice and fits well with its predecessor. The maschine designs are cool and the world from zero dawn still appealing. However, this game is simply too long. The dialogues are drawn-out and the side mission are tedious without adding much to the world, since the first part already uncovered most mysteries. There are many unnecessary maschine fights which feel artifical: Its used as an easy and cheap obstacle to many times, even if its just illogical for the maschines to appear at exact that moment in the mission. And it will happen in nearly every mission. The first minigames and collectibles are nice, but they become boring very early.

The gameplay is a bit expanded, but most things are unnecessary, especially if you play on lower difficulty levels. My advice: Play mostly the main story and do side quest only to level up. At the end, you are still free to do all the side quests and will have an easier time doing it because of unlocked mechanics. Although you probably will abandon this game way before you have done everything, if I had to guess.

Nonetheless, I wanted to know what mystery was behind the ending of zero dawn, and therefore played it to a great extent. That being said, I will definitely neither play the anounced/teasered third part of the series nor the DLC.

Loved the first game but the second one just did not do it for me and below are the reasons.

    - Skills are a total mess. In the first all game your unlocks felt that they brought something to the table. Now there are skills that you have to go to a menu to change or some ludicrous melee combo you will never use unless the game forces you to use it. This is a prime example of less is more. There is just too much useless stuff in there.
    - The main protagonist has become insufferable egoistic condescending douche.
    - The game is way too woke. White man bad, women are the best especially if you are a woman of color. The best fighter in the game is a black old woman. Like are they serious?
    - Side quest are pure garbage.
    - There is hell of a grind if you want to upgrade your weapons.
    - Many bugs still found and the climbing in this is just horrible.

it has good graphics and an interesting setting. But it has nothing else that hasnt been done before. Outdated open world mechanics...stupid puzzles, obnoxious background music and uninteresting characters are probably the things that annoy me most. I barely got through the first game, but somehow they made a sequel and it still isnt a good game...well maybe if its your first game...but iit has good graphics and an interesting setting. Please, please, lets put Aloy in the past and use all those studio resources to actually make a good game...I would much rather prefer a linear driven game with tight, fun mechanics and a compelling story. Look at the LOU. We want immersion, not copy and paste open world potato games. Expand

One of the best games ever. If you like dinosaurs, robots, beautiful graphics, incredible production value, perfectly fluid gameplay and escaping to incredible make believe worlds. I believe you will love this game.

This is one of my favorite new series on PS. The level and attention to detail is awe-inspiring. I was worried how can they top the first Horizon, however I needed not to

Horizon has enchanted me again. After a slow start, a graphically beautiful, sophisticated sequel comes, polished in every aspect, and underscored by a great soundtrack on top of that. The sequel was simply a success. Everything that worked before works even slightly better now. [Issue#317]

Horizon Forbidden West is Guerrilla's best game to date, taking Aloy to new heights with a blockbuster release that meets the high standards set by PlayStation in recent years. While it's totally worth fans jumping in on day one, it's perhaps better to wait a few weeks until all the bugs are ironed out.

Horizon Forbidden West is exactly what everyone thought it would be: an amazing game. It has an open world with plenty of things to do and places to explore, fights against some really well-developed machines and stunning visuals. The feeling is that the second game of the series improves on what was already great, and it feels rewarding and fun to play. It is another single-player masterpiece from Sony.
