    Few games deserve a 10, this I understand, but surely this is one of them. Get over your self important "I'm an annoying, nuanced, big-word-using critic" bs and call it like it is. This is better than the 85 meta rating at time of this review.

    Excellent game with a lot of fan service! Must have for all Harry Potter universe fans. You literally get yourself inside this universe and have a chance to experience your own magical adventure!

    No Spoilers here, really fun game. Graphics are great, spell play is fun and just started flying. I have about 12 hours played so far and you totally lose track of time while in game. I like the fact that you can mod your outfits to what you like (as you collect more). I don't get the fuss about this, i have met two gay couples and one trans so far...why are people bent out of shape over this?

    Hogwarts Legacy is a outstanding game it's a Harry Potter game that has everything that the fans wanted and finally we have a structure to build on to it. It's massive and rich lore from the wizarding world. Story makes sense to the lore to which I was worried but no it was done with care. The game is massive and when I say massive it's large open world to explore deep pass the HogwartsHogwarts Legacy is a outstanding game it's a Harry Potter game that has everything that the fans wanted and finally we have a structure to build on to it. The game is massive and when I say massive it's large open world to explore deep pass the Hogwarts grounds. Story is basic nothing too hard to understand however wish it had more oomph. But it's a good story and setups for a sequel in my point of view. Hogwarts Legacy gives lot's of stuff to do like collecting pages, demiguises, keys etc. And they do reward you with unique costumes and brooms. The game is very customizable with wand handles and outfits. Also you can sell your clothes but won't lose in transmog. You can collect Fantastic Beasts and breed them and also they give you materials to upgrade your outfits and perks. Spells can be mixed with charms and defensive spells or offensive. Yes, you can use the unforgettable curses. Side missions are a hit and miss though however they don't take too long to complete, side stories are among the best here as I called them loyalty missions. There are mini games like arenas, broom time races, dueling and others. Not as much but they do have their rounds. You can brew potions and use the most OP cabbages to attack your enemies and they are extremely OP. I have no negative things about Hogwarts Legacy, it's a magical experience to walk the halls of Hogwarts as I have imagined when I was kid and once you hear that theme from Harry Potter it will make tear up and excited. It's lengthy and my 80 hours of 100% everything my score is a 10. And those Merlin trials are ridiculous alot but hey I still had fun with them and also that extra quest was the best side quest in the game. My score is a perfect 10.… Expand

    Cons:
    1. It should have had more written text like Skyrim, The Witcher etc.
    2. Alohomora makes no sense. The minigame is stupid. It's not even a stealth mechanic.
    3. Most sidequests are shallow in terms of presentation
    4. Brewing potions, growing plants and taming beasts are just a distraction from the shallowness
    5. The economy makes no sense
    6. Enemy variety and AI is not intelligent
    7. People in towns and Hogwarts students are lifeless    … Expand

    Thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game and it was a dream as a Harry Potter fan. However I do have some issues with it. First of all your choices aren't really meaningful. They have no impact on the game and this includes your house. They have no impact on the story in any way really.     I wanted to wait until I'd got pretty much all the game done, but man this game is huge! What can i say, Hogwarts Legacy is phenomenal! yes, there are a couple of minor technical issues (lighting problems in performance mode and a very lacking VRR mode) i'm sure these issues will be fixed in short time, and yes there are a couple of open world tropes but even those are just fun to do. TheI wanted to wait until I'd got pretty much all the game done, but man this game is huge! The gameplay is so varied and satisfying that no task ever gets boring. The combat is perfectly balanced and incredibly well designed, the broom and mount traversal is fantastic, the scenery and world design is stunning, the characters are great and all voice acted very well and all the side quests are really fun, Not to mention the main story, which is very engrossing and well written. Then you have the room of requirement that is almost a game in itself. I actually found myself laughing out loud and saying '"no way!" everytime something new occured in the room. I could go on gushing about all the little details and secrets (and there are hundreds!) but I'd have to write a book! Basically Hogwarts Legacy has succeeded in spectacular fashion, where most other open world games fail. The Horizon games are fun, but the writing and characters are dull and forgettable AC Valhalla had a great story and characters, but much of the gameplay was very repetitive etc etc. Hogwarts Legacy is up there with the best in the genre: Red Dead 2, GTA 5, Ghost Of Tsushima. For fans of truly great games this is a MUST play. For fans of great games who are also big Harry Potter fans...well, you'll struggle to put the controller down!… Expand

    This game is pure magic. I've not had this sense of wonder and fun in a single-player game since Zelda Breath of the Wild. The game is more detailed, awe-inspiring and beautiful than the movies. And I can't wait for the developers to flesh the game more since they've already laid the foundation so well,

    The game is not for people looking for school sims though.

    A fun and beautiful game , not groundshattering but a competent first outing on this scale from a small developper fighting outside their weightclass on this one but standing their ground. these guys have promise.

    no gamebreaking bugs , no exploitive MT's .

    SJW will try and break this one down any way they can , but its a very competent game.

A truly fan-service with excellent gameplay, the game has minor bugs, but this doesn’t affect the final rate.     The game is fantastic. My only gripe is that it doesn't hold much replayability after you beat it. I wasn't too keen on 100% it either. But I definitely did enjoy my time with it.

    Hogwarts Legacy was a childhood dream come true in so many ways. The enchanting world of Harry Potter was always one filled with mystery and excitement, with every page I turned pulling me in and encouraging me to read more to immerse myself completely. This game had the exact effect, no matter how much I played I always wanted to play more. The Wizarding World met Breath of the Wild inHogwarts Legacy was a childhood dream come true in so many ways. The enchanting world of Harry Potter was always one filled with mystery and excitement, with every page I turned pulling me in and encouraging me to read more to immerse myself completely. This game had the exact effect, no matter how much I played I always wanted to play more. The Wizarding World met Breath of the Wild in this masterpiece with a large world filled with hidden secrets, discoveries, and a journey that felt entirely my own. I felt as though I was my own Harry Potter going through my unique journey at Hogwarts, attending classes and making my own group of friends, and making decisions that effected the experience along the way. This was apart of that childhood dream coming true, that feeling of placing myself in the Wizarding World and being a student of my house of choice. Throw in a big mystery to solve, some interesting side characters with fun quest lines, and an amazing incorporation of the fantastic beasts both feral and friendly, and you have a dream come true for all who love the magic of this world.

    Exploring the open world filled with hidden puzzles is also a joy, but not nearly as much as finding the beasts along the way. You can find all sorts of magical creatures hidden about and capture them like Pokémon, down to even finding shiny variants which to me was a favorite element of this game. Every boss or big encounter brought something new and exciting, and the soundtrack only grew better as the game went on. Learning spells, brewing potions, harvesting magical plants, and so much more made this game just as much fun to play as the journey itself. This of course included the wonderful cast of other students, fun and interesting professors, and all sorts of unique side quests hidden throughout the world.

    It’s hard to put into only a couple of paragraphs all of the things that make Hogwarts Legacy a once in a lifetime experience, but if I were to put it as simply as possible, it really is something special. A fantasy of fans around the world made reality, and a new type of game unlike any I’ve ever played. A few technical hiccups here and there, and occasionally a main narrative that was a bit too straightforward, but never anything that detracted from a phenomenal experience. This is a must play adventure for all Harry Potter fans, gamers or otherwise, and deserving of being the first in a trilogy yet to come.    … Expand

I Never watched a harry potter movie or read a harry potter book and Im loving the game, gorgeous design! wow.!There are a lot of bugs but not that bad on PS5.     The combat was very very nice, fun combos, nice spells etc. The story was interesting, not the best not the worst. We did not get to spend alot of time with the antagonists/ villains to really flesh them out i think.     The lockpicking was horrible, no skill needed just a timegate to open a door/chest. They should have atleast added instant lock opening on lower Lvl 1-2 locks when u have the higher skill?!

    The ability to not play on fullscreen on PC is just strange.

    Not being able to (Sell All or mark selected / sell selected gear) is just annoying.

    Not alot of enemies, which can make it kinda tedious, and waaaaaay to much gear, which then makes it just a numbers fest and the excitment of looting a '' so called legandary'' just does not feel like looting a ''legendary item'' . Would have been nice with less and more specialized gear.

    Running around with 30k gold and nothing to spend it on felt weird.

    But with all that said, if you like fantasy, magic , adventure or RPGs, its definitely worth the money!

    With the plethora of open-world video games flooding the market, they're becoming increasing cookie cutter, with most adopting Ubisoft's formula of icon-filled maps and side stories to complete. My biggest gripe with these games, though, is how often they feel empty. Even Breath of the Wild, though unanimously praised for its innovation, didn't have a great "open world." The bulk of interesting map points are tied to aesthetically copy/pasted temples and simple puzzles for minimally rewarding Korok seeds; but this is just to highlight how special it is when an open world game makes the world feel truly realized, and that's probably Hogwarts Legacy's biggest strength.

    Exploring the castle grounds and its surrounding areas always feels rewarding and interesting, and it's helped by the uniquely rich world of the Harry Potter universe. As someone who's seen the movies but never really got "into" the whole franchise, I was entranced by all the flora and fauna, all the characters' and their stories, all the background details, and of course all the cool spells you can learn.

    Hogwarts Legacy's combat plays like a spellcasting class in Dark Souls, without the tremendous challenge. You lock on to opponents, hit them with combos utilizing your various spells like Incendio to light them on fire or Accio to yank them towards you, and dodge roll or parry their attacks. At its core, HL's combat is simple but once you start unlocking Talents, you can really tailor it to your playstyle. Luckily, despite the late game becoming a bit repetitive, utilizing talents keeps the combat feeling fresh and consistently fun, even if it becomes diminishing returns after a certain point.

    The story is intriguing, but it's clear that the game is meant to be played by a younger audience as well. It doesn't go anywhere super controversial or interesting beyond its initial story, but the cast that comprises both the main story and its side quests are all fun and engaging, adding to the beautifully realized world of Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, etc.

    Graphically, the game really shines and while it likely won't contend with Horizon or The Last of Us for truly mind-blowing, it's incredible how real the world and its inhabitants feel considering how fanciful and magical they all are. You'll get the usual uncanny valley in some facial animations and often hear the same voice lines over and over as you traverse the world, but these are minor gripes for what otherwise feels like a lived-in universe with gorgeous foliage, skyboxes, and of course all the bombastic special effects when the magic starts flying.

    Hogwarts Legacy is a win-win: it's the ultimate Harry Potter experience for those who got into the franchise while also being a great introduction to the universe for total newbies. Even without the HP knowledge, it's a fantastic, dense open-world experience that feels as fun as it is to watch and listen. Once you feel the groove in combat, it's hard not to smirk when you take down a troll or an evil wizard with a thunderous bolt of lightning or disarming them and beating them with their own weapons. THIS should be the blueprint for open world games going forward, as well as video game adaptations.    … Expand

    As a Harry Potter fan this game is everything that you dreamt of. It still lacks of some fun gameplay and story but the world builder is so lifeful and magical.

    Hogwarts Legacy is an amazing game. Graphics, gameplay, and the story are all solid. Regardless if you’re a Harry Potter fan or not this game should scratch the itch of an open world adventure by most who play it. My girlfriend and I have already put more hours into this game than I’d like to admit. Do yourself a favor and play it.

    I've never been a fan of Harry Potter, but this game is so well done, so immersive and so satisfying that it took me back to my childhood when I first saw the Philosopher's Stone.
    The biggest problem that I see sometimes is that you lose the experience because of so much diversity in one place where it is set in 1890. For that they had to make a sequel to the original story.

The game is fantastic. I’m about 30+ hours in, finished the main campaign, and going for platinum now. It’s the game I’ve been waiting 20 years for. You can see the amount of love and care that was put into it. ThereI don’t often review games, but I thought I needed to balance the review bombing on this game.     What does Hogwarts Legacy excel at? It excels at “collecting” stuff. You collect spells, potions, and complete a list of tasks for rewards. The other part Hogwarts Legacy does very well is its combat. I was very skeptical of it going in, but both the simple puzzles and the combat are satisfying; but also very repetitive.

    The game’s a lot of fun. It’s a little cutscene heavy at the start, but a lot went into the music and art to make players feel like they really are at Hogwarts. For example, each dorm room has unique architecture. It’s nothing short of awesome.

    The story and characters were, for the most part, great. I appreciated the thought that went into some puns made by the characters and the lore scattered throughout the world kept me engaged. I found myself rooting for some of the characters. For me, the game really picked up once I could fly.

    Tutorials were barebones, which often meant it took a little extra time to figure out. The Alohomora spell in particular I couldn’t figure out until I looked it up on the internet. Another aspect of the game that fell a little short was the quantity of voice actors. It felt like all the villains had the same one or two voices. I know that the protagonist had a limited number of voices to choose from. I can understand some overlap, but it felt a little like missed potential there.

    Wandering around the school or interacting with characters, you always do so *alone*. While I may have liked certain characters, and some characters may have invited me to do a couple things, I didn’t really feel like I was making friends. This led me to believe that I would prefer a social-focused take on Hogwarts. Fun as the combat is, I’d prefer to get into mischief and interact with other characters.

    The last criticism I have is how the theme was disrupted because the game was trying too hard to be diverse. There were too many accents in the game. I wanted to feel like I was in Great Britain, but you have transfer students and transfer professors who are given the limelight for good chunks of the game, and I would have rather stuck with the British accent OR gone to a magical school in another country and stuck to THAT accent. If it were a Wizarding school in France, then I want a French culture, if it was one in Korea, I’d want a Korean culture—I’d be irritated if English characters weaved their way in as an integral part of the game. I want a celebration of culture. And I want an imperfect cast of characters—that includes artistic license to create good and evil characters without things getting political.

    In conclusion, this is a good game. This game IS very diverse. Improve the secondary characters, or the puzzles, or increase the number of voice actors and added quidditch, or improve the “school” feel of the game and you’d have a masterpiece. I’ve heard rumors of an intended sequel, but to capture my interest, the game must improve its core gameplay by making the game feel less like a repetitive collection grind.    … Expand

    It's a really cool game, I'm just a few hours in and I can't wait to get back to it. Very cool world, game looks great, I'm not a huge harry potter fan but my wife is and favorite thing about this game is that she likes playing this game! (she doesn't play games).

    Its a really fun RPG with a nice soundtrack, good graphics and beautiful design. I watched the movies long time ago so I just remember a few things but either way it didn’t affect my understanding of the game so far. Game runs pretty great, haven’t noticed any major bugs to my surprise. Very solid early-release launch.

    I used to wish for a fully-realized open-world Wizarding World to get made one day, and Avalanche Software went above and beyond to get that childhood wish of mine fulfilled. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.

    A Magical game, accumulated more than 15 hours in the game, the best asset of this game is the combat itself very complicated combat yet an exciting way to play using range magic, I like the combos where you can create ways to pummel and get huge damage to your opponent. Aesthetics is great considering the ambiance of the game it works perfectly. Exploration is also good but kinda repetitive but most are okayish I just wished that the puzzled were a bit more complicated but things like capturing beasts are rather fun, other game mechs such as the room requirement were also addictive you will find yourself locked in, and spending more hours collecting items just to unlock certain items and setting up the room the way you want it.

    The one thing that I dislike is the limited types of enemies hopefully at the later part I'll be encountering the different unique types of mobs aside from dubogs, trolls, undead, wolf and spiders.

    Story since I'm not half way yet, I would say it looks promising regarding the Ancient Magic.

    Overall the game is a solid 9/10, with amazing combat and a beautiful aesthetic of a magical world.    … Expand

    The game has everything a Harry Potter fan could ever dreamt of in a video game (beside Quidditch), it's like my childhood dream comes to life. The combat is also surprisingly satisfying although I didn't expect much from it at first. And it works really well on the PS5 right at launch, that alone is a huge thumbs up, every Graphics modes works exactly how it's supposed to.

    Hogwarts Legacy is a steller game. The developers have truly captured the vibe feel and essence of Hogawarts and the surrounding areas from the Books/Movies. The gameplay is fun, inventive and has kept me interested through the 20 plus hours I've played thus far. There is no controversy here, the game is great and you should Def play.

    This game has exceeded any expectations I had. I am completely lost in the beautifully crafted world and its mysteries. The combat is engaging and fun, the side quests and exploration will provide hours of additional meaningful content as well.     Great game, great story, great graphics, and you get to explore Hogwarts as a Witch or Wizard, what’s not to like. Only thing I found disappointing was how it didn’t matter what kind of wand I used, they would all perform the same, so wands are just purely for aesthetic purposes in terms of picking of your own wood, core, etc.

    I am genuinely so impressed and happy with this game and couldn't recommend it more, especially to Harry Potter fans who suffered through the walking simulator games we've had in the past.     Legit the single best open world game I have ever played to date. Sure, there are fetch quests galore, as you may expect if you have ever played an RPG open world game before. However, the lore building, diverse events and amazing scenery is so well done and realised that the fetch quests are enjoyable to do, even at their must mundane.     In the end, this was a perfect experience. Congrats to the teams at Avalanche and Warner Bros., you did a very good job! I can't put a score lower than 10, I just wish they expand the Wizarding World lore with other games like this one, but maybe in other countries, that would be awesome.     It really gets most things right. Amazing combat system, great gear customizability, beautiful graphics and a large world to seamlessly explore. My one complaint is that many of the characters, and by extension many secondary missions are a bit of a bore and a filler. The main story makes up for it however.

    I haven’t been this satisfied as a gamer is a very long time. It’s so refreshing to see a developer not leaning on all of the money grabby techniques (always online, dlc, microtransactions). Also, this game’s expansion on an already massive world from the books and movies is truly awesome. I’ve never felt more immersed in my character and their world.

I think what sells this game the most is its design. It has a ton of open world tropes we have all seen before, but lacks the blatant over use of copy and pasted assets. Each location and room feel meticulously crafted and makes the whole experience far more enjoyable. The art design is incredible, and one thing you will notice right away is that unlike other open world games, here you can actually enter most buildings and locations you see.

    The loot system could be better, and the voice acting, and conversations animations and character models are hit and miss, mostly miss aside from the main characters/instructors.

    Now to address the very selective controversy surrounding this game...

    It's absolutely appopriate and right to give a statement regarding Rowling and the controversy surrounding this game when discussing it.

    However, the issue that is being raised here is just people wanting to bandwagon. If this nonsense regarding WORDS by a bigot hadnt gained hive mind internet momentum no one would be talking about it. Just as those that claim they won't bankroll oppressions continue to do so with literally hundreds if not thousands of purchases they make throughout their lifetime under our current system.

    So dont tell me this is your stand, when the minerals and labor in your phone, game console and TV promote slavery war and genocide, when you applaud the newest Fromsoft title in which they dont pay their employees for the forced overtime it took to produce. When you wash your hair or take medication that was first tested on the primates sitting in cages right now as you argue about this one womans words. When you eat your dinner made via mistreatment and the opposite of peace for the lifeforms that sit on that plate. Don't forget the predatory practices of the employer you work for or the advertising you allow on your site in the name of profit to continue feeding the system and pay their life tax on you.

    If you are going to pretend like you care about peace for something you had better mean it beyond a 6 month internet hype cycle surrounding this one sad woman's words.

    What she said is garbage and ignorant, yes. but seriously? This where you draw the line? a friggin' Potterverse game?! That's it?

    I'm not buying it. Don't' tell me somehow this person's interpretation of a community in the form of WORDS is somehow more important than the myriad of actual physical, mental, and emotional destruction that your day-to-day consumption finances. To suggest that buying this game is financing some sort of anti-Trans campaign, is also to suggest that feeding yourself, and your very existence finances warlords, enslavement, global environmental destruction, imperialism, racism, as well as the very thing you criticize this woman for. who merely wrote a few books and thus has a few million social media followers.

    Trust me, much more influential and powerful people that actually affect global human trajectory are directly financed by you whether you want to face that or not.

    Do something meaningful if you care, because more words and your lack of 'contextual understanding based' one-time 70-dollar boycott of this video game ain't it......    … Expand

El Gameplay es buenísimo, después de ver muchos videos previamente al lanzamiento, pensé que sería muy repetitivo, pero cuando entré al sistema de "talentos" me quedé sorprendido. Cuando veo un enemigo me emociono porque no se si voy usar una poción, o que sistema de combo para derrotarlo, o una combinación. Todos los quests se me han hecho muy entretenidos y de verdad que el HUB del castillo de Hogwarts es enorme, me sigo perdiendo en el y eso me gusta. Que te puedo decir, es un juego que me falta muchísimo por explorar, pero no dejo de pensar que este juego en manos de una empresa con más experiencia en mundos abiertos como Nintendo o Fromsoftware, pudo haber destronado al Zelda Ocarinca of Time como el mejor juego de la historia.

    Game is good overall, has problems with lighting in the game and missing quidditch.
    Also too much DIVERSITY, woke "message" is getting annoying. It's 1800s, how there is so many Detroit Wizards?

    The game is well named as the best thing about it is Hogwarts castle. If you are looking for the experience of being a student in the Harry Potter universe then this game does a great job of giving it to you. The plot, and the surrounding countryside, are very much secondary to the fun of exploring the densely detailed castle.

    The other great feature of the game is the combat.. Didn't think that wand combat could be that fun and dynamic, but it is really well realised.

    There is a ton of content in the game, with the downside that the second half can drag a bit as you spend much more time out in highlands, and the whole thing loses some of its wizard school focus.

    Overall I spent around 90 hours in the game, which was way more than I ever intended.    … Expand

    An amazing game made for Harry Potter fans. There is so much care on the details that I get lost for hours just exploring and wanting to see more. It is just beautiful. If you are not an Harry Potter fan I can understand that this may not be for you. So my score is given as a huge fan for this fantastic recreation.     Hogwarts Legacy has a great character design and could have had a great story too but the story is not so strong. the gameplay feels great and exploration is so entertaining. visually its great and Hogwarts castle is so detailed.

    Hogwarts Legacy is definitely a beautiful-looking game that doesn't have a groundbreaking story, but does have a beautiful world, a fun combat system, broomstick flying, and of course an incredible amount of side quests and missions. [Issue#325]

    It's been a decade since we've had a full Potterverse game, but the wait has been well worth it. Hogwarts Legacy gets just about everything right, with its involving storyline and myriad of main and side quests. Perhaps its finest feature though is Hogwarts itself, providing as much joy in just exploring the halls as performing set tasks. We doubt a single Harry Potter fan will be disappointed. We certainly weren't.
