This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are GORGEOUS. You will have no problems with the cinematic aspects of the game or the characters. The gameplay is a bit better than the previous game, but not by much. The story? All I really have to say is... it’s just a weird fetish made by a man who gets his kicks out of muscular and lean women who brutally murder people. I don’t like the route this story has gone, I don’t appreciate how they introduced and took out Joel, I don’t like the way he made EVERY SINGLE female character look horrendous, and I really don’t appreciate playing as Joel’s murderer like we’re supposed to sympathize with her. I don’t think this should’ve been the story and that’s it, goodbye. Expand

Outstanding graphics, decent gameplay (not that innovative tbh), kinda disappointing plot. The game is said to be about the cycle of revenge, which is not at all a novel concept, and the game itself isnt that impressive in the way it handles it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So , i am going to try and review the game the best i can and how i take it in my head..
So first off , Joel's death wasn't done right , no matter the kind of reason you think you have , it doesn't justify , the Devs want us to see that the Last of Us World is a cruel world and anyone can die in a heartbeat , just like that..
The problem is , we already know how cruel the world is , with the likes of character like Tess/Sam/Henry we get the world ins't sunshines and rainbows , it's a Post-Apocalypic world...
The First Part of the game was actually good , taking Joel's death out obviously , playing with Ellie was a good experience , the Second Part not so much..Everyone has the right for revenge , no matter if it's Ellie or Abby or anyother character , Revenge isn't just for the main characters of course , but Abby dind't try to understand wether the reason for her revenge was what's she thought , she could've first ask the reason for her Father's death but yeah!
So about develpmente , pretty lacking , Ellie's develpment was actually backwards , Abby's develpment is non-existent and even tho i didn't actually hate playing with her , i felt it wasn't natural and necessary , when ever i played with her , just wanted to switch back to Ellie.
Gameplay , for all people that are saying that the gameplay was stucked in the first one stop being a dick , that just a reason for you to hate on every aspect of the game , the gameplay is good and is solid , the jump button i don't think it's necessary , but the dodging is a nice feature , since in the Original you had just to eat everything thrown at you!
Sound was gorgeous too , but one thing that dissapointed me was the soundtrack , compared to TLOU , this Soundtrack lacks a lot in emotion in my Opinion.
The ending , now there is things that made the ending have sense and things it did not..
Ellie was tired already , Ellie didn't had any Will left to fight for , literally she killed to many people (One of the reasons that both makes and doesn't make sense IMO) so she was fed up with all of that , she didn't want more blood on her hands , but in the same aspect killing all those people to just let the main one go ins't right either , plus it was basically everything in vain , losing Dina/JJ , losing her fingers , losing her Mind , her peace..All of that seemed pointless , and you can even arguably make a reason and ask:"Why even doing in the first place if you're not gonna finish it"
Overall there was some really good stuff , like the Joel/Ellie flashbacks , especially the Swimming and the spaceship scenes , pretty magical and the main core to what Joel and Ellie storie was in The Last of Us..
Now , i won't say the game is pure garbage , because it ain't , the Story is badly written , i could make a better one myself..
    Overall:

    Pros:
    Gameplay
    Sound
    Portrayal of the World
    Graphics
    Scenery

    Cons:
    unappealing characters
Game is to long for what is trying to achieve (could do it in about 70-80% of what it has)
    Story is terrible written
The core of what the game is about is only present in a few scenes

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 (The Last of Us 2) Is a disgrace to the original game and the franchise as a whole. The original game found light in the dark world that naughty dog created by using clever dialogue and a fantastic relationship between Joel and Ellie. This relationship was built throughout the entire story and ultimately is what drove many people to love the game. Not only were the characters realistic and likable but the journey they go through is beautiful and unforgiving at the same time. The characters are fleshed out in a natural flow and as we play the game we grow a bond with the characters just as Ellie and Joel are in the game. Respectively, in TLOU2, we find ourselves with characters that are thrown at us with little backstory and no development. The only character that brings the same spark as Joel and Ellie's relationship did is Dina. However, this is short-lived as Dina becomes pregnant and becomes a side character that is forgotten about almost as quickly as she was becoming interesting. With Dina out of the picture, we get Jesse as a companion which is a complete disaster; the character is seldom enjoyable and we don't know any of his backstory or who he is as a person. The combination of these two characters ultimately cuts Ellie's part of the game into 3 sections. Parts with Ellie and Dina which are enjoyable, parts with Jesse which are lackluster, and parts with only Ellie which would have been a nice splash of darkness if the parts with Jesse felt refreshing, although they did not and therefore we have the feeling of a much too lonely story, not to mention that Ellie herself has become an even darker character with only a fraction of her endearing dialogue. Aside from those characters, the others are little explored - Maria and Tommy barely appear, although they could have definitely been much more involved characters that would have brought a sense of familiarity given that we met them in the first game and that Tommy is Joel's brother. Finally, without Joel to converse with Ellie, the brief joy that could be shared in such a dark world was lost and Naughty Dog's effort was poor at keeping it refreshing, which brings us to the story that has disappointed millions.

In the first game, the story was of a typical post-apocalypse game; a person is immune and goes to save the world. Of course, this stereotypical plot is riddled with fantastic dialogue, intriguing characters, and impeccable plot-twists, all wrapped up in flawless storytelling. Although there is another piece of the puzzle that makes Ellie and Joel's adventure unique - only they could have that story. In TLOU2, the plot is a generic revenge story; a loved one dies, and the hurt party seeks out revenge by killing the characters who harmed her loved one. Anyone could have this story. It isn't unique and it isn't refreshing, and it's one of the reasons why the entire plot in the first place was a direction that the game shouldn't have gone in. Aside from the revenge plot being mundane, it was stupid - the character of Abby felt completely irredeemable since everyone loved Joel - no matter how you saw his decision in the first game, and for the record, I disagreed with it. His death was long overdue - however, his death was not overdue in such a manner that portrayed him as a novice of the bleak and unforgiving world they live in.
In the first game, we see Joel and Ellie in a car entering a town and are greeted by a man that calls out for help - Joel instantly sees this as an ambush, showing his experience in reading situations, so unless Abby and all of her friends are actors, I think I'd rather come to the conclusion that it was simply poor writing. Moreover, we play as the killer of Joel which was largely in the second half of the game - this introduction to a new character is trying to shape a moral foundation for her actions however for many it is already too late. She is hard to be seen in any other light than the person that killed a favorite character which is why her approximately 8-hour playthrough felt like an obligatory side mission which I couldn't wait to finish. In my opinion, the fact that I don't like Abby isn't my fault - She isn't funny or interesting and her moral compass is shoved down the player's throat in an attempt to redeem her actions which simply does not pan out, not to mention the horrific ending of Ellie getting her fingers chomped off and her suddenly remembering Joel for a split-second and deciding to spare Abby; it's not Ellie, it's not character development, it's poor writing and it's a poor ending set out to be poetic but simply does not feel satisfying or elegant at all - They rushed character development and told a foolish story in a lousy manner that paid a terrible homage to Game Of Thrones by killing characters for no reason.

Gameplay was good but lacked diversity and flare; same with enemy types.
Graphics, voice acting, level design 10/10

    PS: 5000 character limit; unlucky.

The combat system feels dated and lacking for a game this far into the PS4 lifecycle but ultimately feel familiar. The controversial moments in this game could have been done better. Joel dying had to happen to really justify a sequel but I wish it had been done in a clever way. Instead he along with Tommy just volunteered information about themselves. I think forcing players to play as Abby and fight a beloved character like Ellie was a mistake and could have been offered as a DLC. This is a story based game and the story feels out of sync. It could have been very enjoyable if some of the plot points made more sense based on logical character decision making. Not worth 60 bucks but worth picking up when the price drops. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing graphics with immense detail and lush environments with wonderful sound design to give a eerie feeling when playing the game. Apart from the good two factions of the game trying to kill you and each other the story lacks in comparison to the first game. They killed the main protagonists of the 1st game in the first 2 hours of the game for shock value, very cheap move. It undermines Joel’s arc and personality; Joel is paranoid and doesn’t trust people and knows every trap by a human in the first game. He knows when he is outnumbered and doesn’t go to places where he can be easily overrun unless absolutely necessary. In this game he wonder into a home with 10-20 stranger with his also equally paranoid brother - Tommy. He does save Abby from the infected and his only option is the cabin, he still should have been careful and paranoid of them.

The whole point of the game is to have revenge for the killing of Joel by killing anyone associated with Abby and Abby. I’ve only played 11-12 hours of the game but I know the ending and leaks. The meaning and story revolves around vengeance it isn’t subtle and is badly done. The story is flawed by exaggerated moments and somehow pure luck of the character. The characters make stupid decisions that don’t make sense to a rational mind and overall most characters are bland. The story doesn’t hold gravity as it did with the Joel and Ellie/Father and Daughter bond. You play as Joel’s killer - Abby - for a large portion of the game and are meant to sympathise for her and her struggle and her past. This does not happen, you can’t sympathise with a person who killed your favourite character and are supposed to hate and play as her. We all knew Joel would die but it should have been better. Like a Heroic death or he gets bitten and doesn’t regret saving Ellie from the Fireflies. He could have gone out in a better way that a cheap shock value moment.

At the end of the game, you find a weakened Abby and attack and try to killer until Ellie gets a flashback to Joel and stops trying to kill her to let her go. This undermines the plot of the story and the arc of vengeance when she has killed everyone associated with Abby and countless others. Neil and the other writers try to make a message that “Vengeance is bad and it’ll take away everything from you”. The message falls short and just doesn’t make the story any less good. They also have this sub-plot about a supposed trans scars member and that falls short and doesn’t hold any emotional impact to the player. Some of the trans community and LGBTQ+ have also tweeted and stated this games creates a bad cliche character that is for the sake of diversity.

I could go on but I would exceed the character limit. The last of us two deserves either a 4-6 overall, I’ll put it as a 5 to be generous. The combat of the game is gritty and amazing to say the least. The story not so good, the story is not for the fans and it’s the writers ego (Neil) to think this storyline is bold when it’s just downright mediocre, horrid and flawed. That is my review.

It's unbelievable what they have done to it, and more than that, the way they did it.
The game is full of forced in agendas and they really over do it. You can approach these topics in a different way, but ND chose to do it in the most artificial/down your throat

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can not begin to explain how upset and disappointed I am with this game. I played the last of us (part 1) back in 2014. I fell in love with the story and characters. It was in my top 3 favorite games. The first game was so well made, story and graphics. People have been waiting 7 years for this game. I’m pretty sure everyone had high expectation. I definitely did. The graphics of the game are completely outstanding and they put a lot of detail into it. I will not discredit that. The story is the most disappointing part. There could have been so many different outcomes to the story. I think that they pick the worse one. The players that have been here since the beginning; who have a emotional connection to the characters and story, understand why. The fact that Joel died is already heartbreaking, he didn’t need too. What makes me the most upset is that, they didn’t even give him a meaningful death. The death only happened to set up a plot. Which isn’t even a good plot. What makes it even worse is that the advertising/trailers for the game made it seem like Joel was not going to die and be a completely different story. I wish they would have done it completely different. I am not a bot. These are my true feelings on the game. I feel like most people would agree too. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start this off by saying that when the leaks came out, I thought I would hate this game. As a fan of the first game, though, I feel like I had to experience it myself, even if I DID hate it. I'm glad I decided to do that, because I don't hate the game. That being said, I can't really say that I like it all that much, either.

The soundtrack is still really good, the graphics are incredible, and the gameplay is objectively better than the first game's, though the camera could be a little wonky sometimes. I swear I never had that problem in the original.

The story, however... wasn't the greatest. I enjoyed the first half of it, playing as Ellie hunting down Abby, but once I was forced to play as her, everything went downhill. I'm not particularly upset about Joel dying, actually. Abby and her group had a solid motive, and it gives us a reason for the entire rest of the game to happen. Besides, pretty much everyone guessed he would die long before the leaks came out. It wasn't hard to figure out, considering we knew it was a revenge story. What else would Ellie want revenge for?

Back to Abby, though. They tried way too hard to make you start liking Abby after we already watched her beat Joel to death. The second she killed off the best character in the series, I hated her and her entire group. They try too hard to make the rest of her group likeable, too. Am I supposed to like Manny after he spits on Joel's corpse? I was glad when Tommy blew his face off. It's just unfortunate we as the player couldn't do it ourselves. We all wanted to.

Am I supposed to like Owen, who cheats on his pregnant girlfriend? Yes, I'm bringing up the sex scene. It felt incredibly forced. Even before then, it was obvious he and Abby had a thing, but he was clearly dating Mel the entire time. The only things I actually enjoyed during the entire time spent playing as Abby, were Lev and the rat king boss fight. Even then, the rat king obviously isn't a character, and it hardly had any effect on the narrative any more than any other clicker or bloater does.

If they wanted us to care for these characters even a little bit, they should have had us playing as Abby for the first half of the game, not knowing who she is or what her group is doing, but as time goes on we realize she's hunting down Joel. I think a good time to switch over to Ellie would be when Abby finally sees Tommy came after them, and realizes that he's probably not the only one. Then, when we switch to Ellie, it basically starts right where we did after Joel died. Never switch to Abby again after that. But clearly, they didn't go that route.

Skipping to the end of the game, it was really disappointing that Ellie went all the way across the country THREE TIMES, just to let Abby leave and cross the country a fourth time. I get the point was that revenge is bad and will only continue the cycle, but it would have been better if Ellie killed her, just to realize it didn't make her feel any better. Joel's still gone, and now so is Jesse. Tommy's missing an eye and has a **** up leg. It really only made things worse for everyone, so what really was the point? That's how it should have been handled, I feel.

Speaking of the ending... am I really supposed to believe Abby could even begin put up a fight after hanging on one of those pillars for who knows how long, on top of clearly being incredibly malnourished for months? I know Ellie was hurt, but she should have mopped the floor with her.

All in all, it was a painfully okay game. It doesn't hold a candle to the first game. It's unfortunate because the parts of this game that I liked, I REALLY liked, but there was an entire half of the game that sucked and I can't look past that. If you're just in it for the story, you're better off just watching a playthrough on youtube.

That being said, there was so much build-up and anticipation for this game (on top of it being released 7 years after the original) that there should have been much more care taken for what fans would want to

That being said, there was so much build-up and anticipation for this game (on top of it being released 7 years after the original) that there should have been much more care taken for what fans would want to see and experience, as this franchise and it's story mean so much to a great number of people.

Most would have preferred a story focusing more on characters of the first game, and this would have been the safe bet by Naughty Dog, but they chose to take the game in this direction, so we have to take the game for what it is.

If you are able to look at the game the way it is presented to us, there is a good story underneath it all. The presentation of that story leaves much to be desired, but it is still possible to accept that story as it is, and see it for what it ends up being.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game of course doesn't top the first game. The first half of the game was pretty good, but they should've had a better death for Joel. It was a major disrespect to him. I don't think this game is catering to the SJW's. It has been known that Ellie is attracted to women since the first game. The second part of the game was just garbage. I don't like Abby's character, and not because she might be trans. It's because of the way she was written, how we are supposed to feel bad for her, and some spite just because she killed Joel. The ending was absolutely horrible. What happened to Ellie? We may never know. I'm hoping they come out with some kind of DLC or something so we can know what happens in the end. Ellie deserves a good ending, so I hope she'll make up with Dina. The graphics and gameplay are just beautiful, but the AI is still pretty bad.

I don't know how to feel about this game. Please give Ellie a good ending in a DLC!

There is also no payoff for anything that happens. Often a big event will happen, and then its never talked about again. Characters never grow or learn from there actions which is odd for that seems to be what the game is about. It's trying to be deep and make the player think but there is nothing to think about. It's is just a simple revenge story with 1 dimensional characters. The only lesson you could say it teachers is revenge and violence is bad, but when you spend 30 hours doing extremely terrible things, you became numb to the violence and the meaning is lost after the first few hours. The game forces you to do bad things and they goes "OMG LOOK AT THE BAD THING YOU DID". This game not only insults and violates its audience, but it also does the same to the characters and legacy of the first game. I genually felt empty after playing this and have already returned it. The only reason I gave this a 6 is solely for the art and how good it looks. I feel so sorry for the poor people that were forced to work on this for years. Expand

Highlights were flashbacks and could’ve been much better if they were arranged in a more cohesive order. A brave but poorly executed sequel. I’ll save you 25 hours and however much money by saying revenge is bad, because that’s really all this games narrative has to say along with other basic level messaging to lecture the player, rather than immerse them in a captivating, character-building story like the first game did so well. It’s no masterpiece, not even close. Expand

I didnt like the sexism (aka 2 girl friends that are main characters have to end up as lesbians). I would personally think you would like this game. There are moments that you feel a bit sourness but after some minutes to even 1-2 hours this comes double back. There are some cringy moments but dont forget you are dealing with a teenager. Lastly, if you are the mount and blade type of player (aka want to make the character you play have the morality you choose) then you might be dissapointed, the main characters are close to as complex as a real human and thus you can easily find things you dissagree on the main characters views. I would not recomend this game to the type of players that dont want to be an unrealistic killing machine because in this game you are made to do some 1v5 to 1v10 and for them to be possible for all players they had to dumb down the AI and thus only the more realistic stealth feels right. For me, a player mostly focused on strategic and realistic map painter games i would give it a 7/10. Expand

What bothered me the most was trying to get one character to like, which I didn't like until the end of the game.
This game should be shorter, I don't know if it is the wine that I jumped in two days, and I haven't played anything else so intense since the Assasin 3 came out, but doing the same for 25 hours becomes tedious. For the first half of the game I do not understand why people flood it with low marks, but after passing this game I am able to understand them. Of course, the game does not deserve 2/10, but neither does 9.5 / 10. If I were to rate, I would say that The Last of Us part 2 is a 6/10 game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics 9,5/10
    Gameplay: 9/10
    Atmosphere: 10/10
Story 1.5/10 (more important than other aspects)

    Graphics: 9.5/10
Personal rating 8.9/10 due that trailers from in game context look way better. Objective rating 10/10 because the graphics are probably one of the best graphics out on PS4. Nothing more to say here. The game looks just fantastic

    Gameplay: 9/10
Nothing objective or personal here. The gameplay is similar to the previous title. You either like it or you hate it. It has some major improvements in the fighting animations and the intelligence of the NPCs. Your partner is not running around anymore and is actually trying to hide too. The enemies are now more intelligent but still far away from being a threat to you. They turnaround now while on patrol but when they have spotted you the searching is for you is still way to gameish but that's criticizing on a high scale. The zombies on the other hand are now way more threatening. In total a deserved 9/10.

    Atmosphere: 10/10
Sound + graphics are already pretty awesome. On top of that the talking with the characters are creating a feeling, that those persons really exist and not just run around until they interact in the next cutscene. Small animations like wishing water out of the face after entering a waterfall or swimming are just an example for the smaller details. Another one would be the face expressions when fighting enemies (not cutscene – real game play). The chapters with zombies in it are separated into wide and small areas. In wide areas you are in control. Most likely easy kills. In smaller areas you feel like not wanting to make any noise. If so then good luck fighting and armada. Many things to explore besides main quest. There is just one big bad thing about the atmosphere and that's the story at some points.

    Story 1.5/10
Personal score: 0/10. The advertisements are just fake news. It looks like Joel is promised to be a big role in the sequel in terms of being alive and he dies within the first 15% of the game. I totally disliked it. I am forced to play the murderer which just looks unrealistic as **** A female head with a body of a man who has been in the gym for years. I do know that females and men can be that strong but not in a post apocalyptic world. You are forced to build up your stamina and not hulk smash skulls in my opinion and yes the female is killing the majority with neck or skull breaks. Even though I disliked Joel's death, the chase is an interesting concept. The sad thing is that the following cutscenes are just bad written. If you find someone from the murderers group then you are loosing the control of the situation because of bad story writing and you are forced to kill those people in a bad way. You have a gun you lose control and it ends in a knife kind of battle which the bad people lose. That was Ellis bad side.
Abbys story is for me not interesting at all so straight 0/10 for me. First ending would have been a 6/10 in total. That's when you and abby have the first fight which you lose and she let you alive. You life a ok life on a farm with Dina and her child. Forced ending -5/10. Literally even worse than Black Ops 3 story in my opinion. You are forced to chase Abby again. Before that you lose Tommy because he dislikes you for saying you wont chase Abby again and you lose Dina for breaking your words and going after Abby. You find her and you get the last boss battle which you win with 2 fingers bitten off. You let her go for some reason and are left with no friends and not being able to play guitar anymore.
Objective score 3/10. Joels death is justified for the story's plot. It also makes somewhat of sense that this can happen. Killing hundreds of people and than being hurt by killing someone in a cutscene doesn't make sense at all. Same with the ending. 7/10 still for first ending were the cutsences better then it could have been a 9/10. With the forced ending it's a 3/10

Total score 7.5 if every aspect has the same weight. For me the story is the most important aspect in a story driven adventure game. That's why I rate it with a 6/10. Without the ending 2 it could have been a 8/10 – it ruins the game.

In all honesty, I found the game fun to play, game play wise, with the visuals and voice acting and so on are brilliant. The issue was the story, not only did it fail to get close to the first game (which was a long shot anyway) but on its own it was poor. The ending was unsatisfying, and made the whole 19 hours I spent seem pointless.

The Graphics Are AMAZING & The Gameplay Is A Bit Clunky With Very Few Bugs, But Overall A Outstanding Improvement Upon The First Game. I Pre-Ordered The Game Despite The Leaks Simply Because I Wanted To Play It For Myself & Wanted Something Fresh To Play.. Since I’ve Pretty Much Beat Every Game I Have About Literally 3-5 Times. I Already Knew Exactly What I Was Getting Myself Into So I Can’t Be That Upset That I Wasted The $60. The Very Beginning Of The Game Was Great But I Was Quickly Shocked To See That You’d Already Be Playing Abby So Soon Into The Game.. I Decided To Keep A Open Mind & Let The Story Try To Change My Perspective On The Character. I Truly Don’t Understand Why Joel & Tommy Decided To Trust Abby So Quickly As To Give Up Their Names.. It Almost Felt Like I Was Watching Different Characters From The First Game. Once I Witness Joel’s Death I Instantly Wanted To Get Revenge Along With Ellie / Tommy & Couldn’t Wait Until I Could Finally Go Up Against The WLF (Wolf). The Details Of Every Death & NPCs Having Names / Backstories Never Really Affected Me Any Different From Any Other Game I’ve Played Tbh.. If Anything I Felt Like It Was Just A Nice Touch For It To Feel More Realistic. I Actually Enjoyed The First Half Of The Game.. At First I Loved The Flashbacks Scenes With Joel & Ellie (Basically Filler For What They’ve Been Doing The Past 4 Years Since The First Game) But It Quickly Got Old & It Just Kept Making Me Think About Joel’s Unjustifiable Death. Once I Reached A Little Over Halfway Into The Game I Thought I Reached The End.. Instead, It Switched To Abby’s Perspective Of The Past 3 Days (With A Lot Of Flashbacks) To Basically Try As Hard As It Can To Make Me Like The Character But It Wasn’t Really Working.. If Anything I Can At Least Respect Why Abby Killed Joel. If I Didn’t Accept That I Would Be A Hypocrite For Thinking Ellie Should Have Killed Abby.. What I Don’t Understand Is Why She Didn’t. If You Think Playing As Abby Is Bad The Ending Is Much Worse.. The Game’s Story Seemed All Over The Place & It Felt Like You Only Played Abby Half Of The Game Because They Ran Out Of Better Ideas To Keep The Story Going + Needed You To Like Her Character. I Could Say So Much More About This Game & My Experiences But I’m Pretty Sure A Lot Of People Feel The Same Way. Expand

Sooo... (I'll put some spoilers at the very end of the review to explain what I didn't like about this game. It's up to you to decide if you wanna read them. I'll also talk about relations between characters so there might be few minor spoilers down here. Just in case I warned you. Don't read it you haven't played The last of us 1 tho)

Gameplay is fluid, fast, smooth and responsive. It's same as it used to be but improved. New infected and new organisations/cult are pretty damn neat. Graphics it's top notch, I mean, it's Naughty Dog.
There are few moments in the story where Ellie is just a badass but sadly the pros end here.

The game is simply bad, the characters aren't as they used to be. Of course that is normal but the story doesn't even try to show us how they changed due to what happened in the beginning. The first game built tension in an interesting and fascinating way. Ellie used to be... well a kid. She was curious at first, fascinated by how the world looks outside of the Boston QZ. Joel was basically a man who had no reason to live, didn't care about people. He was closed and cold. The first game shows perfectly how they changed. How Ellie was touched by what happened during the winter. How Joel opened up to her and that was simply beautiful.
New characters aren't interesting at all. Most of them don't have time to shine and that's just disappointing.

I'll just say that first half of the game is great. If you decide to buy it you'll understand why. It has a lot to do with the playable character.

Before I finish this with review with big spoilers I just wanted to say that. yes. I did not expect that the characters hugged each other kissed and lived happily ever after. In the first game I expected Joel and Ellie to save the humanity but the ending we got was even better. It was a "good bad ending".
Now the ending of the second game... It's just bad. Badly written.

    *Big spoilers ahead*

So yea... Joel dies at the very beginning. They disrespected him like he was not important at all but I get that it was essential for Ellie to go after Abby.
Now... Abby. I think this is the worst character in any game Naughty Dog has ever made. The problem is, you play as her like 65% of the game. She's not awful cause she killed Joel. She has no character. She's just poorly written. There was only 1 time when she said something that made me like her. I officially started to dislike her when Owen cheated on Mel with Abby and oh my god that sex scene... Just no. That wasn't funny at all.
She was literally happy when she found out Dina was pregnant before she tried killing her. Thanks god for Lev. He and his sister along Dina were the only characters I actually liked and found interesting.
Now comes the parts after Seattle. Tommy cared about Ellie almost as much as Joel did. And he just gets pissed at her cause she didn't keep her promise? That's not how Tommy would act.
The ending is just awful. Ellie let's Abby go, we don't know if she finds Fireflies at the end. Ellie probably lost Dina and JJ.
One thing that I liked at the end is Ellie realising how much she lost cause of vengeance. The scene where she couldn't play her guitar anymore.

Some people think this game changed to pander to some people. I honestly don't think so. I support the LGBTQ+ community. I AM a part of it but trust me no one wanted this except the author of the game.
I think they were more interested in designing Abby's arm muscles than developing an interesting plot and story. Seriously even if Ellie or Joel died at the end (let's just imagine it went this way) with good writing, well planned story, interesting plot and characters it could've worked. How many games are out there where the protagonist dies at the end or generally games with bad ending? A lot, and a lot of this games are considered good. Not every game needs a happy ending. But every games needs a good written ending.

So, I think that's all. For huge fans like me, no I don't recommend this game. Watch it on youtube or wait til it's way cheaper like £15 and then try it.
To be honest I'm personally not disappointed but heartbroken. The first game meant a lot to me. And I'm serious a lot. It's still my n.1 game of all times I'm just gonna either pretend the second part didn't happen or hope the third part will fix everything. If there's ever gonna be a third part...

In the end, I respect people who like and dislike the game. Everyone has their own taste and a matter of being a good game and a bad one is simply subjective.

Abby is a boring unlikeable character. Both Joel and Ellie are treated like garbage, hell we have a Neil insert spitting on Joel's body. Here's my closing thoughts, The game up until the switch between Ellie to Abby was running a high score, I at first didn't like it I pushed through. The final act is a stupid wrap up making the game's plot of Ellie going for revenge a useless waste of the series time and also killed it. Expand

    Let's start with the good.
This game is beautiful. There are scenes that seem straight up from a big budget movie, and I think NaughtyDog always goes for this feel, and I think they accomplished that fully, again.
Music, by itself lifts this game by 2 points at least. It's really good, and the ingame music isn't left behind, great work there too. Voice Actors, did an amazing job, kudos.

Voice Actors, did an amazing job, kudos. Game mechanics were an improvement to the first game, and it felt seemless with the environment the interaction that you got as a player. Now the bad part, maybe the only bad thing of this whole game, that ruins it for most part of the players, the story. If you somehow are checking this comment before buying I'll make it spoiler free so you can decide by yourself.

-The game uses shock factor, just for giving you a shock, it's a cheap horror movie trope that the horror industry itself is trying to move away.
-There isn't the same feel of doing ambiguous choices for your characters as you did on the first one, it's more of a black and white story that tries to twist itself into something more
-Characters from the first game are dumbed down, making choices that feel uncharacteristic of them. They were much sharper on the first game and it made you feel like you really were in with them in an apocalyptic world. It was like Walking Dead season 1-2 vs the later seasons.
-One of the worst writing tropes that I hate that this game uses heavily, is by using sympathy points for one character instead of the other, like killing dogs vs loving dogs. That's 5th grade level writing.
    - Since I've finished the first game I always felt that the biggest drama would be about the big lie Joel tells Ellie in the end, that was almost an afterthought that happened.
    - I'm not going to keep going into the problems of the story since I want to make it spoiler free. It is not good, but some people like Dan Brown, so I don't know, you might enjoy it. But let's get some things straight this isn't a 10/10 game, no one who likes compelling stories and movies would ever give it 10/10. On the same note it isn't 1-2-3/10 because fans get pissed and are let down. Believe me, I am pretty depressed about it, but being objective, this game has everything to be an insane game that devolved into a subpar plot.

TLDR: It's a badly written movie with great cinematography

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the good:

    1. The gameplay: It has hardly changed from the first game. But I liked the gameplay in the first game and I like the gameplay in this game. Boss fights against bloaters and the ball were particularly fun. Although I preferred to fight infected people rather than people. The weapons were very cool. Especially the bow and crossbow.

    2. The graphics: You can see that it is a generation further than the first game.

    3. The music and the sound: just very good.

    4. The level design: The new big levels are really good. You have a lot of different ways and you can do a lot of exploration.

    5. The depiction of violence: I like the screams of death from the opponents and how the bodies are damaged by explosions or fire. Very well implemented.

    The bad:

    1. The gameplay: Stealth in this game is hardly possible. You are discovered much too quickly and all nearby enemies know immediately where you are. It is very easy to run away and then you are again in hiding mode, but the opponents no longer leave their alarm mode. The gunplay is very weak. It mainly works with the Shotgun, Scopes, Molotov Cocktailes and Pipe Bombs. All other weapons are far too imprecise. I wish I had scopeupgrades for my weapons earlier. This is almost the only way to hit something.

    2. The level design: I like to explore a level completely before I go to the next level. Unfortunately, it is not always shown which way the next level starts and you get no warning that you cannot go back to the last level. As a result, I was unable to finish exploring some levels. If entrances to levels are removed without good reason, immersion is extremely broken. One example is the WLF Hotel in Seattle. There is a blue dumpster on the fence. This is used to get over the fence and into the hotel. If you then come out of the hotel due to the story, you have to pass the fence again and the container has disappeared. You can't go back into the hotel.

    3. Why are there so many pieces of paper to find? Why do you have to read them yourself? Why don't you let the actors read these notes? Then it would be more like System Shock or Bioshock. Or you can find tapes that can be played in Ellis Walkman. The thousand pieces of paper that you can find and have to read yourself are pretty weak. Environmental storytelling can be done better.

    4. The safes: Why do I always have to enter the code for a safe or gate myself? Why doesn't the game automatically enter it as soon as you know the code. Once Dina entered a gate code and I wished I could kiss her for it. Something like that could have happened more often.

    5. The story: Where should I start? Absolutely disappointing. Not worthy of being a sequel to the first game. Not worthy of the title the last of us part 2. This game is not part 2. It does not continue the story from the first game. It tells a completely new story. It actually tells two stories in one game. Both stories feel more like spinoffs rather than being a coherent sequel. Trying to make me feel sorry for Ellie's opponents didn't work. Trying to create sympathy for Abby didn't work. As I said after the leaks, I don't want new playable characters. This is a fundamental no go for a sequel for the last of us. I wouldn't have accepted it if you played Joel's brother. I just want to play Ellie or Joel. The relationship between Ellie and Joel made the first game the masterpiece that it is. There is too little off it in Part 2 and only in Flashbacks. Ten hours after Joel was killed by Abby, the game restarts and you play the three days from Abby's perspective. It just doesn't work. The player is in the same mindset as Ellie. We hate her for killing Joel. Now we are forced to play as her. We then have to take action in the form of gameplay to ensure that she survives in order to continue the game. This is the opposite of what the player wants to do. If Naughty Dog's goal was for people to stop playing this game, they have achieved their goal.

    6. Characters: There are far too many characters. In addition, these are much too underdeveloped. I will remember Henry and Sam forever. But Mel, Manny, Isaac and Jordan are such extremely boring and forgetful characters to name just a few. Yara and Lev are introduced far too late. I got confused by the characters too. Owen reportedly attacked Danny. I can't assign a face to Danny. I thought they mean Jordan. But that was the guy with the cap that Ellie and Dina killed first in Seattle. This flood of characters only causes confusion and takes time away to characterize important characters.

    7. Factions: The factions are underdeveloped. Where does the WLF get all the people and equipment from? Who is the leader of the Seraphites? Why are the Seraphites violent if their prophetess was against violence?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of us 2 review (spoilers): I know i am no metacritic or imdb but i will do an honest review of the game and tell my opinions of the game.

Now the disclaimer is , i haven't played the game but i have watched every video associated with it since the leaks surfaced and also have watched almost 10 hrs of gameplay, i also have a clear idea about how the story ends and what happens.

So here i go...i will keep it short as reviews like skill up have done a much bettee job than me explaining.

My initial problem with the leaks was the shw woke nature of the game but i trusted naughty dog and i was like maybe they'd make the story redeemable enough in some sense so people like me who hate agenda pushing might not go wow but others would infact niel druckman's initial propaganda was it would be a divisive game so a user rating of atleast 6 or 7 would be expected which would mean that the critic reviews might be bribed but atleast the people didn't hate it but that's not the case.

Now before i dive in again, the story might be terrible but the graphics and mechanics feel great for atleast the first few hours of the game.

2 main points about a revenge story is It should be short and it should fulfill the initial objective no matter what the cost.
For ellie we see her lose everything and that could have worked without changing anything in the game, except the ending.
Just kill abby , simple as that. Then it would really feel like , i have won but at what cost. Now there are revenge stories like punisher where people dont care about the costs and it works too.

Abby wasn't likable at all, i thought one way they could have done it better would be her regretting why she did what she did throughout her entire journey and what she lost for that.

So yes...the story sucks..but i still do have a respect for the art form that is gaming and all i can say alot of people worked hard on this so i will give it the credit for existing and being gorgeous.

But then again , if you have mechanics of a 2013 game..and you're not an online multiplayer....you will bore people.

Survival horror is boring..countless grinding is hated by most gamers so what keeps it going? The story and the characters. Some survival horror games like resident evil and evil within make it interesting and making it feel like you actually have to survive rather than taking out targets one by one

What is it? Hitman post apocaĺypse and even that has a ton of mecahnics that make the game worth it...and one of the best in the stealth genre.

25 hrs is not the time you should carry a story like this.

    So that is it

    My ratings would be

    Gameplay : 6/10
    Graphics : 10/10
Story : 2/10 would be a 5 if they fixed the ending and made abby dead
Characters : 4/10 even joel and tommy were out of character in this one, they were dumb and ellie was plain evil and so was abby , owen, lev and everyone around was ridiculous , dinah was better than the others and jesse was there for the diversity factor.

    Overall i can give it a 5.5 to a 6 if i am being generous on 10.

    Overall 5.7/10

And a note , next time onwards , if they are willing to push propaganda and stuff atleast do it in an enviroment that favours it, not the post apocalypse , and definitely not in a way that makes it looked forced like it did.

If you wanted to make a full fueled leftist propaganda game You could have gone for bigots destroyer : earth or some **** but not the last of us 2.
Anyways...congratulations to naughty dog on getting the game out atleast..

There are a lot of great ideas on display here, with enough stupid **** ups to consistently drag down the quality of the game. I found myself experiencing highs and lows throughout within the pacing and story decisions, but this game never strikes the same level of consistency I’ve come to expect from Naughty Dog. Don’t get me wrong, the gameplay and visuals are phenomenal, but not worth the price of admission alone. We all know that this game is all about the story, and if it’s not good then what’s the point? The perspective shifts, killing of characters for shock value and tedium that comes from 20+ hours in similar environments found in Seattle lead to an experience that was ultimately disappointing. I do think this game is worth experiencing if you’re a huge fan of the first, as there are moments that are purely heart wrenching when we see the development of Joel and Ellie’s relationship post Firefly massacre. Despite this, the inclusion of new characters only to slaughter the majority of them and a story that can’t seem to decide who it wants you to root for or what it’s trying to say ended up leaving me unsatisfied. This was certainly not worth a 7 year wait, and in all honesty I’d prefer it was never made and we were left with that ambiguous “okay” as our ultimate conclusion to Joel and Ellie’s story. Expand

Characters did decisions that made sence, but i lost it when they did or said something completely out of character. I dont mind the Point that Abby is Trans* (sry i dont know the right term). Its ok. We have 2020.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not entirely sure why this game is getting so much hate by the fan base to the point of "review bombing". It's extreme, to say the least. Disclaimer - I haven't finished the game yet so maybe the ending is what possibly set all this drama off. But I do know that even if the ending is terrible, I'm still having fun playing this game so far and I intend to finish it. It is definitely not worth the lowest rating possible on every reviewing platform; although it is everyone's right to give whatever score they choose even if it is the lowest. I just hope that they are considering every aspect of the game and giving a fair, unbiased (to others review bombing) score.

The original game is currently one of my favorite games of all time. The story focused on two characters who weren't too sure of each other at first, but alongside the player, started "warming up" to each other and developing an unbreakable bond. Thus, the player developing an extreme emotional connection (or at least I did) to the characters that was (SPOILER) later suddenly shattered in the sequel (SPOILER OVER). Then we have the core of the story; a "zombie" apocalypse that is a bit of a twist. Instead of the typical virus outbreak and hordes of relatively normal looking walking dead, the core story revolves around a fungus outbreak that acts extraordinarily different than the former. They aren't the typical walking dead, they're over-grown fungal covered and parasitically controlled monsters. Lastly, we have the gameplay. It's very similar to the Resident Evil series. Except less puzzlely, much more action and sudden events intensive, and more cut scenes between areas due to the heavily story-driven nature of the game. All of which I love and make me prefer the game over the Resident Evil series.

The sequel, as you would expect, overall improves on the basis of the previous game. I've played past the part where (SPOILER) Joel dies (SPOILER OVER) so I know that the original emotional connection with the previous main characters is semi faded away but I still find the story engaging enough. Would I say it's better than the first game? No, obviously not. But it is generally difficult for any game to outshine the original. The first time you play something, you develop a first time experience that acts also as a bias, tilting the scales in its favor compared to the sequel(s). All I'm saying is that the first game's story was amazing and the second game's might not as amazing, but it is still decent at the very least.

The gameplay is more fun than the first game's. The new attack dodging ability is really cool, I just think that it is a little too easy to dodge most enemies attacks. I am playing the game on "SURVIVOR" mode which is the hardest difficulty that can be picked, unless there are harder ones unlocked after beating the game for the first time. Given I was playing on the hardest difficulty, I found that enemy attacks were way too slow to hit me so it became apparent that I could just punch/slash the absolute !%$# out of everything instead of using ammo or stealth. That's a bit of an over exaggeration, there were points were I ran out of ammo and had to resort to stealth, but it made me feel like a badass fighter. I also found that you can take an unhuman amount of bullets before dying. I was being shot like 4 - 5 times before running out of health which became felt way too easy on the hardest difficulty. In real life, you'd be lucky to survive one shot depending on the impact location. I think they should make it 1 shot then 2 shots with health upgrades on the hardest mode. They definitely should do some difficulty retweaking in terms of player damage. Lastly, the stealth is a little too easy. They added a full prone feature so you can lie on your stomach and crawl. It's slow but it basically makes you invisible to enemies even if they are like 5 feet away. Combine that with the craftable silences, which by the way I always had one crafted, and you're easily a "skilled" assassin with next to no effort compared to typical stealth action.

Some say the story is lacking; I agree that the story is definitely not as good compared to the original game's, but overall the game is good. Needs a bit of tweaking in difficulty/balance but it is just about as fun as the first game. I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for this review for holding an unpopular opinion; so be it. The game is fun for me and no one or group is going to deny that fact. If this game was zero fun, then I'd score it a 0 but that's not what I think and I'm standing by it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 Is a visually beautiful game. The graphics are the best I have seen on PS4. The audio and sound effects are good. The musical score is decent. The game play is good. The writing is sub par. The acting is good. The story and organization of the way it was played out, ruined the game.

    Graphics: 10/10
    Audio/SE: 7/10
    Music: 5/10
    Game Play: 7/10
    Writing: 4/10
    Acting: 7/10
    Story: 3/10

I will be reviewing the story of the game from here and it will contain MASSIVE SPOILERS. Naughty Dog did a few things in telling this story that were really good and I enjoyed:

#1: They provided excellent motivation for Ellie to go on her rampage. The death of Joel was used very much like the death of Sarah. It was a traumatic event that drove story throughout the game.

#2: The buildup was good. The search for the people responsible for Joel's death was satisfying. Seeing Ellie throw Nora into the nest of infected and the emotions that she went through before during and after beating her to death made the game feel gritty and showed the no turning back point that Ellie had come to.

#3: The Flashbacks of Ellie and Joel were great. Seeing Ellie learn of and subsequently confront Joel about what happened at Saint Mary's provided a solid resolution to Part 1 without ruining its ending.

Sadly, that is where my list of positives ends for The Last of Us Part 2 and my negatives begin:

#1: In the chapter Seattle Day 3 (Infiltration) The Last of Us Part 2 had a chance to be a very good revenge story. Had this scene been done right it would have provided a climax to the revenge plot and began the conclusion of the story while setting up the chance to end a couple of the sub plots. Instead Abby kills Jessie then says a few meaningful words and aims the weapon at Ellie only to have the scene cut and take us back to day one where we now play the bad guy. Cutting this scene in half and sticking a 10 hour gap of playtime in the middle of it drains all of the energy from the first 10 hours of build up that the story just finished creating and then to top it all off I now have to play the villain and I am expected to empathize with her? At this point I switched the game to "very light" difficulty and sprinted through each encounter. I had no desire to play the character the game spent 10 hours convincing me to hate. This was one of the three breaking points of the story.

#2: The 10 hours of Abby. I felt like I was grinding just to get back to the Fight between Ellie and Abby in the theater. There were things included in this section of the game that were unnecessary (the sex scene, love triangle, island invasion). The scenes weren't bad they just didn't really have a point.

#3: The resolution of Ellie and Abby in the theater was terrible. Playing Abby in this scene felt bad. I get that it was trying to show that good guys and bad guys are a matter of perspective, but my perspective was from Ellie's side and Abby was the proverbial bad guy. The thing that bothered me most about this scene was when Abby had won the fight and was about to kill Dina then (almost) out of nowhere decided she wasn't going to then threatens Ellie and leaves. So Abby, a character that spent the last 4 years of her life trying to find Joel and traveled roughly a thousand miles to kill him, finds out that Ellie, Dina, Tommy and Jessie have systematically killed all of her closest friends in 3 days time, just decides not to kill her and let her live for a 2nd time (because it worked out so well for her the first time). This was story breaking point number two.

#4: The last breaking part of the story was after it finally seemed over, it just kept going. Ellie and Dina back on the farm seemed like the game was ending until all of a sudden Tommy shows up and now all of a he is driven by revenge. Having his brother murdered and tortured while he was knocked out and helpless wasn't enough to fully drive him after Joel's killers by itself but now that he has been physically handicapped, he wants them to pay. This is the same character that was done with violence unless it was necessary to protect the people he loved in Part 1 and even in the beginning of Part 2. Then Ellie goes to Santa Barbara to kill Abby where she decides not to because she remembers Joel at the last second then lets Abby go. So, after chasing down the person that murdered her father figure and one of her best friends, she just decides all of a sudden that Joel's memory is better served by not killing Abby. So Ellie has now lost everything and didn't even get her revenge. The plot never has a pay off and leaves a bad taste in my mouth reminiscent of the ending to No Country for Old Men.

Overall I give this game a 5. The flashbacks of Ellie and Joel were enough for me to be glad I played, but the ending and terrible character breaking decisions afterward make me wish I had stopped playing 12 hours in. Part 2 was a massive disappointment.

The flashbacks and parts with Joel and Ellie were *amazing* and should have been used in a different order so the impact was higher.
If your major take from this game is that there are lesbians in it, you've missed the actual story, and are just homophobic. I don't care if the other character was a muscular woman either - who cares - how she was used is the issue.
    Graphics are freaking amazing!
Action and gameplay is like a refinement of the first game mixed with Uncharted and it works well.
Hard to know what's next in the game universe, or if they will end it here. Hope there is more - there is a feeling of emptiness after completing it and I want this universe's story to end on a high overall.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II isn't a bad game. But it isn't brilliant. The first 12 hours as Ellie were perfect. I was an emotional mess, even having to take a break when Joel died. But I loved it. I loved how well the emotion was being delivered and I loved revisiting this world and the characters of Ellie and Joel. The relationship between those two characters was such a huge element of the first game and it continued through the flashbacks in this game.

So it felt like a slap in the face when I was handed control of Abby in Seattle. I know it's not uncommon to play a character you aren't too fond of in a video game, but this felt like the wrong game to do that. Her gameplay was insufferable. I just lost interest as soon as I realised how long I was going to play her. There was such a strong attachment to Joel and Ellie taken from the first game, so you didn't even want to give the person who ruined their dynamic a chance.

On a more positive note however, Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker's performances were incredible and the museum scene was absolutely beautiful.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What's good about it:
-One of the most amazing graphics in game I've ever seen. You can see where 100 mil went
    -Gameplay is decent
-You can turn on slowmo. Kills look very good that way
    What's bad:
Oh boy, there's a lot. Visual flows:
-Faces during gameplay. They are scary. It's like those videos where characters are with maximum expression: their eyes are popping out, they are really sad or really angry. Very strange.
-Invisible walls in the places where they shouldn't be. I can understand invisible walls in forests but not on top of a crane (You can jump of it but if you try to throw a bottle to the left or right it'll break and not fall).
    Gameplay:
-Jump button is mostly useless. It's not that frequently used and jump animation is wonky.
-You get stunned if you get shot. Maybe there is more challenge because of it but for me it's mostly annoying. The game forces you to play more careful, you can't really run straight into the enemy anymore, just hide and wait. At least you can run away from them.
-It's incredibly boring. If you played first bioshock, it's kind of the same experience. You go from one location to another killing similar enemies, looting them and killing them again. There are some interesting upgrades, but not a lot. As you progress you find different types of guns same as in bioshock were potions. But all of that is not enough to make killing similar enemies over and over again any entertaining.
-Stupid AI. You can enter journalist mode by just laying down. Human npc won't be able to see you at all. They can even walk on you. F U N
-Notes. Maybe it's just me but making any sort of exposition by placing notes that couldn't have been written in the kind of circumstances they were written is lazy. They're not even that interesting, exposition could've been done without them.
-Without arrows it's difficult to navigate.
    Story (Spoilers up ahead):
Jesus Christ it's atrocious. This game feels as a work of someone who surrounded themselves in a bubble of people who have the same "mindset" and no one was dare to argue with them.
First 3 hours of exposition are already boring but they are probably necessary. Well anyhow, there is Abby who wants to kill Joel because he killed her father, when trying to escape with Ellie from the hospital. It's unfortunately almost all the character of Abby. Oh, and she is also very strong. She kills Joel in the first couple of hours and Ellie than tries to get revenge on her. Before killing Joel, she gets in trouble with zombies but Joel saves her (And immediately says who he is to her even though Joel said himself that the only one you can trust is yourself. Maybe its the old age?) After that Abby kills Joel in front of Ellie and Neil Druckmann selfinsert spits on the corpse of Joel. That small detail is actually how gamers and maybe developers feel about the characters. They are irrelevant. Well anyhow, for some reason, developers decided that it'll be a good idea to play an empty villain character for a half of the game. Every ending where Abby dies automatically becomes a good one, because you don't care about her one bit. She is strong. She is powerful. She got her revenge. That's it. All the side characters are even more underdeveloped or extremely unlikeable. Abby has a boyfriend who cheats on his own pregnant wife with her. Pregnant wife is barely a character. Selfinsert Druckmann is Spanish (it's all the character development). Abby along the way meets little trans boy Lev (trans and lgbt characters are thrown in there just for a tick) and his sister who quitted the Scars - a cultist group which everyone considers an enemy. She for some reason decides to help them, because they saved her life, even though Joel did the same. (Of course, Joel killed her father, but these people are almost random and can potentially be a threat. It's all just to make Abby a little more likable). Abby and Lev lose a lot of friends along the way. But not only they are forgettable to the audience, they are forgettable to characters themselves. Lev loses his mom and sister but as soon as they are out of sight he immediately forgets about them. Not a single word is heard from him. Same thing with Abby's and Ellie's friends. And when Abby gets her very slight character development Ellie doesn't. All she thinks about is revenge. So its even disturbing to see her in the end sparing life of Abby. She killed your father and friends, even bit of your fingers and you won't do anything about it? You killed all those people along the way just to not do anything? Like one youtube comment said:" It's like if John Wick killed all the bad guys for his dog and then decided to adopt a cat".
Thank you Druckmann, I understand now. Violence is bad. What a valuable lesson. Actually, even when npcs die others scream the names of those npcs you just killed. Well, I guess I feel sorry now.
Overall there are no interesting characters and you dont sympathise with anyone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I got the platinum trophy for The Last of Us, I’ll never do that for the The Last Of Us part 2, its a very simple reason why. This game is definitely more difficult than its predecessor and the reward at the end of the tunnel, for the increased difficulty is a giant middle finger. In the end you end up losing almost everything you care for and have no idea what becomes of the MC not even a little. There are a lot of punishing games but not as many feel this unrewarding. With the lost of multiplayer your only option is to watch Ellie lose everything and everyone she cares about over and over again. I’ve been waiting so long for this game and I’ve already finished it and collected 60% of the trophies. So what now do I replay this depressing story and watch all my favorite characters suffer literally to no end.
Honestly that’s my only choice, im at a lost. I’m pretty much done with it 3 days in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just finished the game, and to be honest it isn't what i expected. A lot of people throw garbage to the game, specially giving a solid 0, but it deserves better than that if we took as consideration, the gameplay, the graphics and some elements that made the first TLOU so epic. However i didn't understand why to go so far in the history to tell a history of revenge? (Which was never done by Ellie), just to let go Abby, after all she done to her.
This is so upsetting. When i started playing this, i said "OH BOI" at least i was prepared to see a few characters die that we met in TLOU, but i didn't expect they kill Joel like trash, wich is one of the other things i'm upset, i tough Joel will be a playable character, or even a NPC in the game, but no, the only thing you sell was Joel diying as it was nothing.
Ok... Despite of that, i was willing to keep playing because i was sooooo impatient to get my hands on Abby to forgive her...? I mean WTF, after that i tough "i was cheated".
I must say the devs of the have my gratitude, the mechanics of the game are so buffed, and making the weapons and some objects with limited durations was a lot of challenge included that you always had to get inside of a building or look around to get some loot, anyways. I talked with my friends about the game and it was mixed opinions, but honestly i didn't believe them because no one of them have a PS4, so i lend the TLOU 2 to my cousin to play the game, and we feel them same, the worst part... He didn't even play the 1st TLOU, and said that the history was garbage. Some people told me, that i didn't understand the entire game, that i'm dumb as f**** so i got no idea of the "excelent masterpiece" that game was, but to be honest i think you don't have to understand something to ENJOY the game. So outside of the history the game was good, like a 5 o 6, but this game is one of those that you only have a history to tell, so if the entirely plot (Not only the final), is so bad tasting, what else is left to give? I hope the next year Naughty Dog says that this was ruse and the real TLOU 2 is still developing.
From this i can conclude 3 things.
    1.- This isn't the real TLOU 2.
2.- They give this bad game to make 3rd one "more interesting".
3.- They planned to end all this ini the 1rst TLOU with and open ending, but due to the creative ideas, between writers they make tthis poor plot lack of consistency.

However the truly worst part of the experience is the plot, that is fundamental for a very linear and story driven game like this one: through a literal destruction of all the beloved character of the first game, the game substantially wants to teach you one of the most generic lessons ever, the one of revenge being a bad thing. In order to achieve this mediocre goal the story relies still on crucial events happening purely by chance, action completely out of the personality of characters and several minor plot holes. If we consider also the abuse of dmca takedowns on YouTube from Sony and the misleading advertising for the game(if you play it you’ll know what I’m referring to), I do not recommend this game thinking about the milestone part 1 have been for gaming, and I suggest saving 60$ and watching the play through on YouTube/twitch if you’re curious on how a story so anticipated can be so poorly written Expand

The story left me unsatisfied at the end, it also made me dislike all the characters in the story, except the ones who died. (and Dina) At the conclusion of the story that left me with a feeling that I'd just put 25 hours into a game, that tried to make me like 2 characters which are (in this story) so unlikeable/unrelatable, that it really was a useless journey.

After playing it completely through, I get why people are mad. But even then, this is an interesting case for story's that try something different. Too bad that in this case, the game director didn't succeed in creating characters with the same personality and integrity like the first game.

It seems instead of leaning into the heart and soul of our established characters, “subverting expectations” was the main focus. We weren’t asking for a tame story line filled with roses. We’re well aware things can go terribly wrong in this world. We simply wanted to experience a story that honored the characters. LEVEL DESIGN, the world is designed well, it allows a lot of exploration and it is always rewarded by getting new weapons, equipment or resources.
SOUND, the sound is amazing. Shooting, punching explosions and other stuff sound really good.
DIFFICULTY, the difficulty customisation is perfect, you are able to adjust the main characters, the enemies, the environment, resources and so on.
FLASHBACKS, those were good and I feel the game should just start with them and the story in them was actually well written and told.

    BAD:
GAMEPLAY: it's just the same as 7 years ago, no improvements but also hasn't got worse, but yeah I think some new features would have helped the gameplay. It becomes tedious after 10-15 hours.
LENGTH: the game is way too long, 25-30 hours for this story is ridiculous, 15-20 hours would have been enough.
ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS: yeah most of the things in there are useful options that can help people, however there are option that make no sense and seem to be put in for the journalists that review the game. There is an option that makes you invisible when prone, another option lets you stay under water without drowning, you can turn weapon sway off which makes certain upgrades useless and makes you feel like you are playing a trained soldier rather than a teenage girl.
BUGS, for a triple A game, there are so many bugs, I had to reload entire levels or restart the game on several occasion because the game was soft locked and I couldn't go on because a NPC didn't move to a certain spot.

    WARNING SPOILERS
STORY, the story is complete trash. I don't know who the people are that believe this story is well written or well-told.
CHARACTERS: The characters are introduced by name, like Jesse, Dina and so on, there is often no background to them, no story on how they met or how they ended up where they are. Every character that dies in this game dies after couple of scenes and isn't mentioned anymore people like JESSE and MANNY who are obviously important to the story, they die right in front of Ellie and Abby and they aren't mentioned after all, not a single word. Character development is awful, everybody but YARA and LEV are replaceable and unlikeable. YARA and LEV's story is nice and has some emotional and deep scene throughout their missions, especially the island scenes.
STORY ORDER, the order how the story is told feels backwards, Ellie kills these people like Danny, Jordan, Nora or whatever the hospital girl is called, then 7-10 hours later they are introduced when the player takes control over Abby. When people found out Danny is dead, they were mad and sad, as player I didn't care I knew nothing about that guy there was no connection. The order would be a lot better if the player would play Abby and Ellie each day, starting with Abby then Ellie "chasing" after her, so with Abby's missions we would get to know the "villains" we kill playing Ellie, but yeah none of this happens. Killing any of Abby's friends felt like killing any other enemy in the game, just another faceless character.
PURPOSE, the whole story is about revenge constantly showing the player revenge is bad, it is a cheap way of story making and it showed in the writing.
I have nothing against Joel being killed I feel it had to happen his actions needed consequences but it was badly done as Joel had 3 scenes before being killed. I have nothing against Naughty Dog's approach of making female lesbian characters and Abby's design, I see the media using this a reason why people don't like this game but it isn't.
The reason why people don't like this game is because it isn't made for gamers but for the journalist and reviewers. Accessibility options killing off the entire gameplay and the whole LGBT thing they are trying to do just shows me they are trying to please "video game" journalists.

In the end the game itself wasn't terrible as many people want to make it sound but it was certainly wasn't good either.

This a heart wrenching sequel that is vehemently set on destroying just about everything that people loved with the first game. What was initially a promising start, quickly devolves into a very grim and nihilistic narrative that is propped up by not only convenient plot devices, but driven by unrealistic actions from previously well established characters.

The ending is probably one of the most anti-climactic and disappointing aspects of this entry, with no payoffs for the player for having to trudge through what is Nietzsche's wet dream, leaving behind what is a needlessly ambiguous and unfulfilling finale which completely invalidates almost everything had endured up until that point.

Visually, the game is one of the best on the market, with gritty visuals that help bring the cold and desolate world of this series the life, and for this the game deserves its due credit. From a gameplay perspective, this entry has stayed largely static. There was nothing intrinsically wrong with the first game's combat, but it was nothing special and a bit bland though not bad. The sequel offers more of the same but with a few new additions to revamp the affair. It does still fulfil its role however as the series isn't renowned for any spectacular gameplay. The animations are fluid, the scavenging and crafting aspects are serviceable though the AI has still remained rather horrid despite whichever difficulty you set.

Though, despite the narrative being severely compromised, it would be rather disingenuous to not acknowledge the fact that it's functional while gorgeous, and therefore not deserving of a completely horrible score, however this is a series that was previously lauded for its fantastic storytelling. It has failed to reach those heights again with its janky pacing, with an over reliance of intermittent flashbacks and expositional preaching through dialogue more aimed at the player themselves than between the characters.

I would not recommend purchasing this game at all. If you're truly curious, then it would be prudent to hold out for a sale or a used copy. Otherwise, please; just satiate your curiosity of the game's narrative through playthroughs found online as the only thing worse than having to experience this entry as a die hard fan, is the stinging feeling of having wasted money on it.

The music is perfect one of the best sond tracks I've ever listened to and I thank Santaolalla for that.

But all that brings us to the scenario, the story is the heart of the game, for me will never be as good as the first onebut it certainly does not deserve all that hate.

Naughty dog took a very risky direction by killing Joel from the start of the game, I think it was a very bad idea knowing the community's love for this character.
I'm not saying it was a bad idea to kill Joel, I'm just saying it could have been done better.

And it was also I think a bad idea to base all the marketing on an adventure of Joel and Ellie when in the game certain passages of the trailers have certain swichted ofcharacter and changed models

So no, the game does not deserve 0/10 and no it does not deserve to be called a masterpiece

    I think 5 / 10 is an appropriate rating.

Pretty bold story, but Joel felt like different character from the first one and deserved better. Too much tension between Joel and Ellie, never built a good relationship that we all wanted. Too much tension between Joel and Ellie, never built a good relationship that we all wanted. Died by the hands of Abby which we play with and trying to understand her, but you can't love a character that killed the most favorite character. At the end Abby is left with a place to go to and a friend, and Ellie is left with absolutely NOTHING. The fact that she turned out to be a better person than Abby by letting her live is not enough. This just shows how much influence Halley has had on Neil and how much she doesn't know a thing about Joel. Only youtubers and famous people are rating it high, and I think that shows something...I tried so hard to like the story and love the ending but every time I think of Joel it's like a part of me died. We waited for 7 years and unfortunately you broke us. But the gameplay and graphics are a masterpiece though. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
