This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's no denying that this game deserves all the plaudits it can get from a technical perspective. Sound design, graphics, animation and the combat is exceptional. For that, the team deserve to be congratulated.

However, the story is another matter. It's clear that it must have suffered at the hands of the politics at play here. Originally, when others were slamming the gay, female-led story before it had even come out (!), I was up there defending it - stating it didn't matter - that the story is what matters and if the story is good, who cares what a characters persuasion is.

But that's the problem - it's NOT a good story. It's just - dull. Ellie has turned into a lean, mean killing machine. There's a body count here higher than Hot Shots Part Deux. There's little, other than the killing of Joel, to support just how angry she's become. There's also little choice - particularly in areas where choice should matter. For example, in one of the final confrontations - I didn't WANT to attack Abby. I wanted to let her off - like she did Ellie. However I wasn't allowed to make that choice.

The writing is also lazy. So much so, they squeezed in as much of the current zeitgeist as they could muster. Again, if it was relevant to the story then sure - go ahead. But it's clear that it's been injected into it to make it relevant.

It's also way too long. It took me 30 hours to complete it. I was done with it by 16. It's repetitive, way too much in the way of boring cutscenes (the farmhouse family skit towards the end was just too much), and when Ellie sets off again I actually got annoyed.

I'd actually completed the first part just before the 2nd came out (never had enough time), so for me the first was very, very fresh. The only part of the 2nd game I actually enjoyed the story was Abby's - seeing if from her perspective, how the couples' rampage across the US affected her. That's about it though.

I'd say borrow it from a friend. Experience it, but don't be surprised if you give up at the 14-16 hour mark. You're in it for the long haul, but sadly those extra hours won't make a damn bit of difference to the story.

Just completed it.... the game is good and well put together, it's a little tired now... but at least they have gotten rid of the input delay of TLOU and Uncharted. I just think the story is trash and based on stupid premise of the ending of the first game... it doesn't even have a pay off, just ends depressing.

-One of the best looking games I’ve ever played
    -Level design
    -Shootouts/Melee

    Cons:
-Second half is a snooze fest
    -Only one stealth kill animation
    -Story is lackluster
-No upgradeable storage for ammo and most supplies

I really enjoyed the first 7 or 8 hours, I loved exploring Seattle when first arriving and checking things off the map. Unfortunately that is short lived and there are no more open map sections of the game. The stealth system in the game is ok, but the stealth takedown is SO repetitive, how in the hell did they only give each character 1 stealth takedown animation? Not being able to do a stealth takedown with your melee weapon is a total bummer as well.

The whole Abby play through was such a drag and I felt most of it was a pointless time filler and would of been better off as a dlc. Overall pretty bummed but it definitely has a couple great moments. Wait for it to go on sale.

So many parts of it seemed forced, focusing on telling a revenge story rather than the characters personality. They make decisions out of character. Some writers ask how will their characters react to situations and go from there, others have a situation / goal and make the characters fit it even if it goes against the characters personality. This is the later. Having said this, other parts were great. Wish a different game or a different story had been told using the same assets & characters. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I managed to avoid the spoilers, and I intentionally avoided all the trailers, except 'e3 reveal' one. I enjoyed 'Part 2' as a game, but as a sequel to 'the last of us' I did not.

First strike was when Tommy, in the middle of the fight, from nowhere decided to be a gentleman and introduced himself and his brother – a person with a secret so horrible, that Tommy swore to took this secret to his grave. And, quite possibly, person with a price on his head, after all he had done. And after that decided to go in a room with bunch of unknown, heavily armed people with no precautions. That for me felt very out of character.

Second strike was for the way Abby killed the man, who just saved her life. I have no problem with the fact that she kills him. Just the way it happens for me paints her as complete psycho and irredeemable person.

And third strike for me where all those cheap, in-your-face attempts to show Abby and her friends as good, intelligent, compassionate people. Here's Abby saves a zebra, here's Abby reads a book, here's Abby feels ashamed that her friend cuts the queue, here's Abby plays with a dog, here's Abby saves kids even tho they are an enemies and so on.. Abby's part was tooooo long. I was done with it before 'day 1' ended. And from that point I just stopped caring about what is happening with Abby storywise. It just felt like completely different game, that I was forced to play for some reason.

The last part and the end were quite emotional, and I understand what ND tried to do, but it just did not work for me because of all the reasons above.

And it's just sad and upsetting. Because flashbacks with Joel was great, especially the museum one and final one. Because I see all this incomprehensible amount of work that was put in this game! Visually it looks stunning. Hands down the best looking game at this moment. Acting and mocap are top notch. Game play is solid. Sound and music is great. Years of work. You have all components needed to make another masterpiece. And in result all I feel is confusion and disappointment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm pretty conflicted about this game. The whole first half is a solid 9.5/10 for me and really does feel like a worthy successor to the first game. Incredible level design, great combat sequences, and graphic quality I never expected to see out of my 6 year old PS4. I was thoroughly engaged in the story up until the switch.

The second half however, feels very jarring compared to what is played up until that point. It feels like Naughty Dog divided into two teams to make this game. The team developing the first half being people who worked on the original game. the combat encounters feel like they were designed by a less talented team than Ellie's section of the game. The story of Abby and her friends is not interesting and the game gives me no reason to care about those characters.

I do appreciate a lot of what this game tried to do in the bigger picture. The idea of having to play a character for 10-12 hours that you are strongly predisposed to dislike is an interesting psychological experiment, but I kind of wish I wasn't the subject. The Abby section wasn't all bad (I liked her Flashbacks and thought the leaving the Island sequence was very cool) but I still kind of feel like like I was tricked into being forced to play a different game for 10 hours to see the conclusion of the story I was invested in.

I think the Abby section would be less grating on people if it wasn't so long. It didn't feel like it was at all necessary for her to have a whole second campaign to tell that part of the story. Her 3 days could have been an hour each and still showed the player what they needed to see. By the time I was finally done the Abby section it felt like it had killed the tension that was there before the Abby switch.

By far my favorite part of this game was the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie. I don't think Joel's death was necessarily bad writing but i still can't help but wonder what this game could have been if it was able to take more advantage of it's greatest strength in the chemistry between those characters.

When some outsiders make fun of gamers for being nerds, I always smirked, knowing that they are right, and the way this game has been treated by both sides pretty much confirms this.

    Lets get some things straight:

    1) The game is not overall bad, not even close to the worst games.
    2) ND surely messed up the story/characters, there is no question about it.
    3) In terms of graphics and gameplay though, the game is stellar.

Yes, I was pissed off at the many plot holes, at how some characters were treated, at how some left-wing political agenda is shoved down my throat (on top of that it is forced, does not appear natural), and how nonsensical the overall story and especially the ending was. Drunkman did a bad job even when he tried to virtue signal. You don't do it THAT obvious.

But other than these major faults, there is no denying that the graphic and gameplay quality is one of the best available at the moment. You can't give it a 0 or 1, not even a 3 taking this into the account. As such, I will give it a middle rating.

Both sides should grow up and learn to stop buying into hype, stop senseless religious fanboy/girlism, stop bashing for the sake bashing just to look cool in front of your friends. You like the game because of the story? Then you are entitled to be disappointed. But the story is just one part of a game. Same with the side who just worships this game because they want to be contrarians or to kiss up to ND/Sony. I get it that critics and professionals would suck up to them so that they won't get overlooked by ND/Sony for future releases, but you folks have no such excuse, other than sheer stupidity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us has joined the ranks of beloved franchises that were ruined by bad writing despite having almost everything going for them: amazing graphics, great sound design, fantastic actors and an astronomical amount of money.

Sadly, all of this is wasted on a cookie cutter revenge story that loves to make you feel as miserable as possible, confusing this with deep and impactful writing. Charactes returning from the first game might as well be new characters altogether because they are often entirely unrecognizable, while at other times their old selves are at least shining through somewhat. Almost everyone is a terrible person doing terrible things to each other for the sole purpose of revenge. Parts of the story genuinely feel like an overly long fan fiction; the game could (and should) have been 6-8 hours shorter than it is. Nothing of value would have been lost.

One thing I will recommend the writers for is that they at least tried to make the Abby plotline work, and that the inclusion of it in itself was a pretty ballsy move. Taking risks like this shouldn't be shot down in general and could have been really good. Forcing the player to play as the murderer of Joel and showing that she is just another person in and of itself is not a bad concept, whatever some people might say. Not nearly as deep as the game thinks it is, but it could have worked fine. All the problems lie in the length and pacing. Abby is not a particularly likable character even if you exclude her murder of Joel, she's just too bland and goody two shoes for this.

If she absolutely had to be included, it should have been a short segment after each "day" we play as Ellie and not half the game in a row. Naughty Dog's and Sony's marketing was genuinely, unironically deceptive in this regard and should (but won't) have consequences. But much fewer people would have batted an eye if we had played as Abby for an hour at a time as a sort of "break" between Ellie chapters.
"Cycles of violence" is a nice, but meaningless, buzzword. What exactly does this game teach us, as opposed to the first game's profound message of paternity and selfishness? Revenge is bad. Murder is bad. People are, in fact, not black and white. A five year old understands this. The Last of Us Part II is miserable and violent for the sake of it. Don't mistake this for brilliant and game changing writing, because it isn't. It's an embarrasment.

    4/10 (Bad)

However, I can't in good conscience give this game a 4 as a sum total because there is more to a video game than just the story. Almost every other aspect of this game was phenomenal and deserving of some praise. All this in mind, I'd give it a 6/10 (Fine).

All in all, The Last of Us Part II was a huge disappointment after such a long wait. It's very telling that this game will still win all the awards and was a huge critical hit despite its mediocrity, whereas the fandom is much more divided on the topic. In my opinion, this game suffered from both positive and negative review bombing on this site (a 10 is just as ridiculous as a 0), but deserves the middle ground rating that resulted from this.

Too bad everything else is miles behind of what Naughty Dog can do. Gameplay has little to no innovation. Meaning if you replayed the 1st part to get ready for second, everything will feel familiar but that means you will grow bored that much quicker. Only 1 new type of infected (not counting the boss fight) so nothing to look forward to in the fight sections. Copy pasted human boss fight from Uncharted 4 gives away Naughty Dog's lazyness with the sequel. But i guess all of that could be forgiven in a narrative driven game....if the narrative wasn't insulting to player's inteligence. Story is absolutely terrible just as the pacing and constant jumping between timelines and flashbacks. Just as you are starting to get ''into it'' you are quickly pulled out with a flashback or a walking sequence. Not to mention the deceitful marketting. From a gameplay perspective, it is definitely an improvement over the first one, graphically it is probably the best looking game I have ever seen.

From a story perspective, although I would have preferred certain fates were handled better, the journey is definitely one that is worth travelling. The leaks definitely misrepresented the plot. It is a gritty story, it does not pull any punches. You will feel very uncomfortable handling certain moments, which I guess is the intention of the director. Nevertheless, I feel like the story does have some pay-off in the end, or at least it leaves it up to a more positive interpretation.

Now, do I believe it is perfect? I wouldn't say so. The Last of Us Part 1 is a focused story around the relationship of these two characters, while Part 2 feels more like a story about the world itself. It attempts to provide a plethora of different perspectives, so that all become, to an extent, sympathetic. However, by having such a broad scale, it does not feel as focused as certain players would appreciate. If I were to contrast the two games, Part 1 feels more like a movie while Part 2 feels more like one, or even two seasons of a show, in regards to scale. It worked for me, but I do admit it felt somewhat long at a certain point, as the last few hours felt dragged on.

Nevertheless, I loved the experience. You can feel the passion behind every single member of the staff, from the animators to the actors that worked on this game. It is NOT an half-assed game.
There were some great emotional moments that I feel will resonate with many players. I felt had my money's worth, but I can understand that the story is not for everyone. Congratulations for the great game, Naughty Dog ;)

I absolutely LOVE the 1st game, but The Last of Us Part 2 is a huge let down.

To be fair, The Last of Us is such an iconic and beloved game that's very tough to follow up with a good sequel, let alone one that surpasses the original. Just like the Matrix sequels couldn't really match the 1st movie.

The Last of Us Part 2 is objectively a better game in technical terms. It's got better graphics, better motion and performance capture, bigger environments, better AI, more refined gameplay (at last, a dodge button). In other words, it's got great production values. Yet it fails miserably where it matters the most: the game experience, and the lasting impression it leaves on players.

First of all, let me address the big elephant in the room. The game has caused controversy online due to seemingly promoting a progressive political agenda. Yes, the game portrays some LGBT characters alongside straight people, but their presence is not an issue. The game's real issues are far more fundamental. But dare I say, I've had enough of this agenda, especially when it's not applied so "innocently". If Neil Druckmann includes LGBT characters in his game because the story demands it, fine by me, but please don't take advantage of LGBTs so you can call yourself a "progressivist" and potentially open Hollywood's door later on. We know how things work.

The original game had a simple yet powerful story punctuated with memorable characters and events. The sequel is a shallow tale about hate and the cycle of revenge, with no memorable characters. I won't spoil the game's plot, but let's say the game's narrative focuses on a dozen characters, and as a result loses all of its focus. By the game's end, I had little to no impression left on me.

Another thing that hampers the game experience, is the non-diverse gameplay and the game's length. You traverse the environment, explore an area, and either you loot everything you can or have to dispatch an enemy team, and repeat for 30 hours or so. Puzzles don't exist. There is no trail-stealthily-someone mission. There are no time-limited events. There is no hunt-an-animal-for-food mission. There are no mini-games. There are no secondary dialogue trees to actively pursue, only those you can trigger with the triangle button. Even the fact you can play the guitar is under-utilized. They introduced a few new monsters to the infected roster, and only the Stalkers are a great addition, they gave me a few good jump scares. But at some point there is a horrible boss fight with a creature that reminded me of some recent appalling Resident Evil games.

I understand that Naughty Dog wanted to try something different with The Last of Us Part 2, but frankly they didn't deliver a good experience. It can happen even to one of the world's best games development studios which has released multiple great games in a row. Last time they released a game with a lacklustre experience was Jak II on PS2, or the 1st Uncharted on PS3. I'm sure Naughty Dog will re-organize themselves and their next game will be a return to form. But The Last of Us Part 2 should have been much better than it is.

Graphics: phenomenal. Other then lacking artistic vision in many points (everything looked real, but boring).

Story: Not good. Overall the story set out to try something new and it simply failed. It makes you hate someone, then spends hours and hours trying to get you to like her, but the stronger your connection to the loss, the harder it is to overcome it, and for many it just failed.

The third act of the game was rushed, it felt like a DLC they decided to slap on there as a "BUT WAIT THAT'S NOT THE END". The pacing was bad, it went too fast, and by the end, you didn't really care about anyone. it's like when you get a fantastic director and cinematographer to film an absolutely horrible script. It's beautiful, but won't get you back to watch again.

Overall it was very disappointing. The engine and gameplay is a marvel to behold, the story is contrived, has unnecessary filler shoved in to either extend gameplay or to provide opportunities to have us like characters more, but it just failed at providing any compelling story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 is a beautiful looking game, with 7 year old mechanics that haven't changed almost at all since the first game. The game mechanics also get repetitive and boring after the 300th kill. The story and characters (most of them) are poorly written and shallow with a lot of slow points, and no where near to the level of the first game. All of this for an ending with no payoff or satisfying conclusion, like watching a movie with the last 10 minutes cut off. Where's the closure? A disappointment compared to the first game. Expand

Welp! Writing anything about this game seems extreme. We've seen other games with similar circumstances knock it out of the park. At least to me the problem with TLOU Part II is that it seems that it was made without even knowing why. Oh well, first the positives: Graphically, the game is incredible even on an old PS4. The music while a little derivative from the original is also excellent. The voice acting again is absolute superb, and while the combat and puzzles are very much more of the same, they're still well put together and effective. Even the story (as much maligned as it has been) has some very solid and powerful moments, and finally kudos to Naughty Dog for the accessibility innovations, I have to say I'm really impressed.
Now, the bad is quite simply one thing: The story execution and planning. It really seems that the creative team really wasn't sure what to do with the game, because even if you don't like the ideas put into the story, it can still be structured and told effectively. But here? That is where the game really punts it.
All in all, the production still makes this a solid, even good game. But a lot of money, crunching, and good production staff can only take you so far. I really hope this time, this game really will be the last of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog is a (deeply) flawed hero in this story. I can understand the parallels between Ellie and Abby: both of them lost so much due to hatred and revenge. I understand the immersion with the character that Naughty Dog tried to make between us and Ellie: (HEAVY SPOILERS!!!) When Abby kills Joel, Ellie is **** pissed, and we are **** pissed. When Ellie questions why did that happen, we question WHY DID THAT HAPPEN (naughty dog)!? By the end of the game, after going in a killing spree, Ellie feels uncomfortable, and so do we. We realize the consequences of hating and the eternal cycle of vengeance, just like Ellie, and to break this cycle (Lev would probably go in revenge after Ellie if she had killed Abby), Ellie chooses to spare the person that made her transform into something practically inhuman. The idea of this kind of immersion with a character is one of the most amazing ideas I have ever seen in entertainment history. The choice of killing Joel early on is one of the most bold moves i have ever seen in my life: it´s unfair... it´s **** disappointing... but it serves the idea of connection between character and player (or at least it should). That said, the gameplay, the graphics, the level design, the accessibility, and the CONNECTION between player and character are breathtaking (NOTE: I said the CONNECTIONS between player and character, and not the characters themselves, with few exceptions). The 10-hour long gameplay with Abby was unnecessary. I understand that Naughty Dog wanted to present the ultimate lesson that we can extract from this game: It doesn´t exist good or evil. All that exists is the point of view (or some **** like that). With a 30 minute or an hour gameplay we could have know all that we should know about Abby and her motivations, and the people that she cares about. But she IS the villain. Why would you wanna play for more than 2 hours as the villain of a game? Why does this game have to act like the world is 90% of the time a cruel place, and that ultimately there is more "bad" than "good"? Why does it has so much negativism in such dark times? Why wouldn´t you feel the same connections and lessons by keeping Joel alive for more than 2 and half hours? Joel being alive could add SO MUCH MORE in terms of gameplay and more in therms of history. Imagine that in the 5 years time jump between the first and the second game, Ellie actually had built an extremely deep relationship with someone (Dina maybe). A relationship that was the OPPOSITE of what it was with Joel, and with that, Ellie actually had a bigger emotional gap between her and him. Because she found out the truth. And she found out that she was starting to become like Joel. So she pushed him away and found love with someone else. The same **** with the WLF could happen, only this time Joel doesn´t die. But Jackson does, maybe Tommy as well. Not only Ellie would be **** pissed off but Joel would too. Imagine a more brutal combat with JOEL. A man who had everything taken away from him. But in case if you´re wondering "Wouldn´t this compromise the emotional relationship that we have with Ellie? I mean, we have a much deeper connection with Joel then with Tommy and a bunch of generic NPCs, because we played with him during the entire first game. So killing somebody other than Joel as a motivation of vengeance for Ellie wouldn´t cause the same impact and rage on US, and consequently we wouldn´t have the same connection we have with Ellie when Joel was killed". I understand that. I DO. Naughty Dog had to sacrifice Joel in order to deepen an emotional connection between us and Ellie. But it could have been in SO MANY different ways. Joel could have feel guilty because he had put his guard down with Abby and because of that he blames himself for the destruction of Jackson. So we would play the 10 hour section with JOEL, and not Abby. By mid-game he could die in a more meaningful way, maybe he could die learning an ultimate lesson that we would only discover when playing with Ellie, maybe he should have achieved some level of redemption for all horrible things he did. It´s a real shame ND just cutted off the connection between Joel and Ellie in favor of some partes that weren´t really necessary and could have been avoided. My admiration for Naughty Dog improves a little bit when I take a look at their point of view, and the genuine balls they had on killing off this iconic character in favor of something new, and an amazing connection between player and character. But ND also had to assume the possibility of dissappointing their fans. And as we can see by these scores (most from people who didn´t played the game, but still) people are pissed. A BIG part of me is **** pissed. I don´t know if anyone is gonna see this but I HAD TO LET IT OUT. What a shame Naughty Dog. Hopefully you get the chance of having the redemption that Joel never had. 5/10 - Congratulations, you may have just broken your fanbase in two. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler alert... Great visual, great action, great CG and Characters design, but...
If the studio wants to keep sharing the same game title: The Last Of Us, they'd better concern more about how the players would react to how the game is turning in PART II.
I don't mind if the story designed Joel's death in the game, but at least not at the first couple of hours of entering the story. It ruined the player's tie with the main character. We have all invested emontionlly into Joel throughout the first LastOfUs game. Framing Joel's death in the first 2 hours in PART II? That just ruined my mood for the rest of the game play. I have no enjoyment at all. I did not care how Ellie and Dina explore the city of Seattle at all. All the time they spent in the city were waste of time in my opinion. Yet, getting the revenge isn't what I care either. There is no close tie between the game characters and us - the true player behind the controller. The PART II has lost what made it popular in PART I.
I appreciate the game developers who put their time and efforts in developing this game, but I believe they would be appreciated much much more if the story wasn't what it is right now. There are a lot gaps and holes in the way how the game tells its story. Constant memory flashback did not change the fact that as player I have no interest in going any further with the game.
To respect my money spent on this game, I at least want to finish the game once so I have played through the whole game before start writing my reviews and comments. I am giving the score of 5 for the whole game. But if scoring only the story telling and structure, I would give 3 instead.
Next time, I won't trust any reviews came out prior to the release date. It appears all of those popular reviewers are afraid of putting negative reviews. There are definitely "controllers" around this. I don't like the false review, especially for the games that I loved.

Cons: Switching protagonists for an unknown period of time reduced my investment in resource/skill management system. Likewise, anticipating the return of the 'main' storyline broke immersion & meant I didn't care about the new characters I was following and resented playing like this. The narrative non-linearity was needlessly convoluted (e.g. a flashback inside another flashback, inside the protagonist swap). Strange pacing in the last quarter, it kept feeling like it was about to end. Unrealistic survival after extreme repeated injuries.

Conclusion: I replayed the first game several times, and kept it on my shelf almost like a trophy. Part 2 is worth your time and money, being better than the vast majority of games and better than Part 1 in some ways. It continues the story, and I respect that expectations were high. However, it doesn't quite reach its potential.

The characters are boring, stereotypical. The plot contains many holes, lack of logic. There is no empathy on the part of the player. The entire potential of the series is destroyed for me.

    But...

Imagine you are locked down in a room with the most hated character. Person that locked you down wants you to start like it, but both of you can't speak or move an inch.

Then also remember GoT S8 characters arch and multiply by 10. Side characters in TLoU2 are developed in a sub-mediocre level. Saw this on an youtube comment and 1000% agree - Arthur's horse had a better character development than Jesse, Tommy, Dina, Manny. Only Lev and Yarra have some nice development.

You introduce a lesbian relationship, but for 90% of the game there is no chemistry between them.

My conclusion is that people that created the story + produced the game behaved like some sadistic parents that want to teach their kids how to behave by being really really cruel and violent with them.

Let me be clear the graphics and visuals of this game are top notch like the greatest I have ever seen or experienced. But it just goes to show that you cant have a good game without a good story and I was left feeling sad and misled. Killing Joel the way they did and how early in the game made me un-invested throughout the rest of the game.

I tried my hardest to be open minded about playing as Abby but I just couldn't find any sympathy. After everything Ellie went through to try and kill her she couldn't just pull out her gun and finish it. This back and forth revenge on each other felt very childish and unoriginal.

Over all I did enjoy this game to some extend and don't regret buying this game. I do however wish ND would have did things differently.

Graphics: yes they seem nice especially the outside visuals of landscapes but faces at times seem utterly weird and not in keeping with the rest of the game. When I see people say the graphics are 10/10 i just laugh because there are some really poor ones.

Gameplay: It is I am afraid to say quite dated in the way it works but the worst thing is the jump system which seems to fail for no reason and they even include a easy jump version in the controls. This should tell you that they knew it was bad but decided to do nothing about that.
The game had some very boring parts in my humble opinion and just seemed to be there to stretch the game out.

Sound: Very nice and I cant say too much negative about it

All in all not a bad game but a disappointment none the less, If ND wanted to make a political statement they should have done so via twitter because some of this stuff does not need to be in games. Woke culture is bleeding into too much stuff these days. The way ND and Sony handled the leak was terrible but that does not effect my score at all.

Gameplay has not near enough depth to support such a long game. Human AI is good, but I spent most of the game time looking for resources to craft stuff. Graphics and sounds are awesome.
The world building is quite poor. The zombies did not make any sense (how on earth are they walking without food for many years underground?) When I saw they don't freeze in the blizzard while I am dressed in winter coat broke the world for me and was never able to believe anything ever again. Iterations were needed and sorely missed. When building a world it has to follow its on rules and everything else in this game follow real world physics and biology, Except for the zombies and this shows.

Story is nonsensical. Both protagonist are clinically insane; murdering a bunch of people indiscriminately. The two love triangles are laughable and the game fails to make me care about the characters. I just did not spend enough time with anyone to form a bond and they die randomly anyway.
This game badly needed reality check during development.

The game is just plain boring. They should have cut the Abby story-line out as it is filler and remove some useless characters like Dina.

So from this point of view the game could be a master-piece. However I personally think the story it self is boring, it has it’s moments of course, but most of the time you are running from A-to-B chasing the next objectives. As the journey itself is fun, exploring this stunning world feels pretty good, the story behind is pretty boring. Naughty dog tries to catch you with emotions during the cut-scenes and dialogs (by the way you don’t see any graphical cut between gameplay and cut-scene – superb!), but for me the game feels to long, the story takes to long to unfold. I had to force myself to finish the game, due to hard times and boring parts. And frankly I’m glad I finished it, the end is pretty rewarding! At least I liked it, because it was kinda unexpected. 15hrs would have been perfect for that story, so it feels like the time you need to finish is way to long for the story. And usually I enjoy playing games for hundreds of hours (RPG are my favorite genre…), but here if just feels wrong. Well this might be just my opinion. However, for me this is a 7/10 game. What they were trying to do with the story is interesting but it just doesn’t work. It was actually kind of hard to get through this game because the story is just not enjoyable for the most part. But it seems to me maybe that’s what naughty dog was trying to accomplish idk? Other than that everything else about this game is top tier. I mean the graphics on this game are absolutely gorgeous. I mean maybe the best of this generation. The combat was amazing I mean you actually feel what’s going on in game it can get super intense, and it’s top tier combat. The music like the first game is just exceptional. Playing on a harder difficulty gives you a real challenge and also that realistic feel which I love. I’d recommend waiting to buy this game until it goes on sell because i think it’s going to be very hard to replay this game if you aren’t the biggest fan of the story. The combat and actual gameplay can only carry this game so much. Having a great story is crucial to a game like this. So I can’t justify a $60 purchase. I was torn between giving this game a 6 or 7 and I ultimately choose 7 because it does have some very satisfying gameplay and some serious intense gaming moments. Expand

The story is enjoyable, and while I absolutely hated Abby and hated playing as her, playing her made sense in the grand scheme of thing, which was: You pay a big price for revenge and can get lost in hate.

The biggest problem Last of Us 2 has are:

    1) It is not as good as Last of Us 1. With Last of Us 1, they set the bar very high, and last of us 2 needed to at least meet that, but it didn't
    2) Questionable character decision: Joel told us not to trust any stranger in the first Last of Us. Joel knew not to just outright invite them or follow them into the cabin, and yet he did. Why? Because it was the easiest way of writing it. I didn't feel that was Joel making this decision, but rather someone deciding for him, what gets the job done the quickest and the job was to get Ellie on her path to revenge.

If there was no Last of Us 1, this would have gotten a better score from me, but knowing the characters, I don't think they made the choices they should have made based on the previous game.

Dina, in my opinion is the best character out of all of them. She is the one making the most sensible choices, the one that fit her the most. Maybe because I never knew her before the first one, but I also didn't know Abby.

This game would have been better as a standalone game, and not as a continuation of the first Last of Us.

I honestly didn't feel any gameplay difference, i didn't feel any different about how i'd approach things, mainly because i always want to stealth and always felt pushed into full frontal assaults. I found the humanising of the antagonist an interesting exploration and did enjoy parts of it and some of the friends, but very few of them. I found though that it just went too far, and where it helped, say Thanos feel realised and purposeful, but still a villain, it sort of robbed TLOU of a true villain. The everyone does bad things for the right reasons theme was not lost on me, but still felt purposeless in the context of the 2 games narrative as a whole. It's like they took a straight right angle in the narrative and just decided to tell a completely different story, instead of a part 2 of the original.

I enjoyed certain aspects of the game but hated that you are forced to play as someone who killed Joel and want to be Joel aka Jessie who I was starting to like. It made me hate her more when she beat Ellie in their first fight against each other. The Siblings scar story was probably the most interesting thing in this game. I feel like the story was trying to combine two different stories to make one game. It would have been better rearranging the story so it didn't feel like it was hopping around everywhere. Overall what's the point of all this sacrifice and body count on both sides to not go three with getting revenge for Joel or Abby getting revenge for her friends dying. Expand

At the end of the review there will be major spoilers marked with SPOILER.

First of, this game is not a 0/0. Neither is it a 10/10. The only thing i have against this game, is the story. Everything besides the story, gameplay, sound so on and so on, is fantastic. It really is fantastic. Where the problems start for me, is the story. ND takes some choices throughout the game that i do not agree with.. It’s not just because of Abby, because actually, the overall gameplay experience and missions you play as her is more fun and enjoyable than Ellies. It’s how they do it. A lot in the story doesnt make sense compared to the first game. But you’ll have to play it yourself to understand.

The ending is the biggest flaw. It’s executed so bad. It’s an overall good game and enjoyable experience, but it had flade. SPOILER**** The ending. Playing as Abby in the last mission was a mistake. Ellie losing the fight like that and Abby just storming off was weird. And yeah, part of it is just that you hate to see the “hero”/main character get beat up/lose. Either way gane was good, just not what i expected. And not as good as it could have been.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. * The ending of the first game sets up the second game really well for a couple of possible things to happen.

    1. Humanity is condemned due to the actions of Joel, so it makes sense that he'll be killed or face some major consequences in the second game. However, I think they killed him too early, in a random encounter, which is bad imo.

    2. It doesn't make sense for the fireflies to disband after they lose Ellie, they could've gone after her in the second game, and Abby's story could've been embedded within that main story. (PS: Saying that Abby's father was the last person who could perform the surgery, is a **** reason for the fireflies to disband. It's a throw-in reason that they made up for the second game and wasn't even foreshadowed in the previous game. Moreover, Abby's father had Mel as his best student. They also had the whole continent filled with all sorts of people and factions to go through and look for a competent enough doctor, so it doesn't make sense that there won't be any other doctor out there that can preform the surgery.)

    3. The second game could've been a second journey where Joel and Ellie try to fix their broken relationship, or maybe Ellie tries to escape to the fireflies, to save humanity and Joel follows her on this journey, trying to stop her and maybe the player gets some sort of choice, either help her get to the finish line (for real this time), or try to force her back and end up getting killed.

    * My thoughts on the story they chose to use:

    1. The story of the game is supposed to be a commentary on how revenge is bad and it'll only bring pain and hurt to you and the people around you. Ellie's action felt very unrealistic and stupid for her character to do, even if she was blinded by revenge. Abby spared Ellie twice, and in the second encounter, she spared her loved one, her kid and Tommy, she could've easily killed them on her way out after knocking Ellie out.
It felt very strange for Ellie to fully settle down then to choose to go after Abby, especially because that it could put Dina and JJ. in harms way. It felt like a contradiction to the type of person that she was set up to be in the previous game and in this one.

    2. The pacing of the story was really weird. It had a lot of unconnected plot points (Mostly the Abby section of the game), it felt like it could be a part of a standalone game, rather than half of the main game.

Even with everything that I discussed above, I still think that It's a very enjoyable game, that I loved and would recommend to people. However, It's not the type of game that I enjoyed enough, that I would replay it. I heard someone put it best, It would be good as a separate new IP, but sort of meh as the The Last of Us Part II

Игра из last of us 2 превратилась в игру по мотивам. И для last of us это критично.

Its pretty good but by no stretch of the imagination a real strong point of this game, combat can feel repetitive, options feel very limited, controls feel a little clunky and counter intuitive, would have liked a final fantasy 7 remake menu thing where time slows right down when you pop into a menu to give you a second to think about what you wanna pull out.

Let me make it clear that I have no issue playing as Ellie or any other woman in any video game but in this game Ellie is rather stale compared to her in the first game. I could go into more detail but long story short I found myself not caring about the majority of characters in this simply because they didn't appeal to me because I found them to be boring. It was to concentrated in vengeance karma choices and missed out the whole point of the first game like did where the virus came from? Is there a cure besides ellie? I mean it has a lot to been seen. But OK I enjoy it. Of course Joel's death was a little forced, serious, Joel was a professional smuggler and he knew very well how to stay low. So he and Tommy putting themselves in that position is unlikely. But I get it, we all get it that Joel was destined to die in this game but it could be a different way. Despite, there are some illogical moments with your companions' detection. They can not be detected by enemies at all. They are like ghosts before the fight starts. The musical accompaniment is on another level.

Finally, the storyline. It is not that bad as many people say, but I wasn't satisfied by the ending of the game. I mean, it is a perfect ending at once, but on the other hand it has no sense. There are many cliches in the game as well. Of course it is my opinion.

Before we get started please note: I understand how this game has polarized fans and do know that I respect your views on this game because deep down we may have more in common with each other's reviews than we think.
I believe that, The Last of Us 2 was not the sequel we wanted, nevertheless it was an extremely "real" sequel. It's a fact that everyone's time in an apocalyptic afterworld is ticking, in this instance Joel was next in line. But here is what I think of Joel's death. 7 years ago, we were introduced to one of the most iconic video game protagonists in the history of gaming. A father figure, we came to cherish and love with our hearts. 7 years passed, some of us relived The Last of Us both on PS3 and PS4, and our love for Joel deepened on account of the game aging so well, much like wine.
But here's the sitch, by now, we as gamers are used to the hero winning, him coming out on top or having a hero's death, but that is not "real". What is real is that much like everyone, Joel's time too was ticking, 24 years of surviving was a mixture of experience and luck, luck which ultimately ran out and experience that was futile against Abby and her crew. The story whether we like it or not told a "real" tale of hopelessness. In truth we wanted a Joel and Ellie team up game where they kicked ass and reminded us of our times back 7 years ago, we wanted the bonding moments to make us feel that Joel and Ellie were not just fictional characters in a game but people we know, feel for and want to succeed in life. Ellie was meant to be written well but the reason why we probably didn't like her as much was because we could not get over the fact that she grew up and distanced herself from Joel because of his surgery secret coming out. In the end, Ellie gets not just the life but the ending that we the players did not want to see. Again, counting on this being "real" phenomenon really bugged me, games are supposed to make me feel like things are going to be ok, make me know that the characters i spend time with are going to come out on top or at least be respected when they pass away. Although it is hard for me, I still somewhat respect the way Naughty Dog went on with the game, it is hard to dislike a company many of us grew up with just for one game. I know, TLOU is not a game serious any of us wanted to see go down this path but it did, thats it. its out there, and people either like it or hate it.
I believe that the gay scenes could have been directed better, trying to do something as new as this, simply came off as if they were trying too hard to send a message. And that's where the controversies laid their eggs I think. In the end, at times it feels like even Naughty Dog was uncomfortable and was forcibly sprinkling homosexual innuendoes into the game. I believe the romance Between Ellie and Dina could have been far more beautiful IF IT STRETCHED THROUGHOUT THE GAME AND MADE ME FEEL FOR DINA AND WHAT SHE MEANS TO ELLIE. Thats why I loved Joel, we spent the most of the entire game as him, we know his story and we know his pain. TLOU 2 was supposed to be a revenge story but it gave me little to want revenge. I'm just going to say it, forgive me brothers and sisters, but i kinda did like Abby, if thats what devs wanted then they succeeded. I did not view this game as a political statement, rather as a blueprint of what mistakes one should avoid in storytelling. Abby's story showed me that, literally everyone has a story, TLOU just turned out to be a story about a man and a little girl, a story which could have been even about a mother surviving with her newborn baby (A Quiet Place style). Abby was not a bad character, yes I strongly disliked her for killing Joel, but I honestly feel like her character development was better that that of Ellie in this game. Unpopular opinion I know. Don't judge me but my favourite character in Game of Thrones was Ramsey, so yeah, I like to see new character developments.
Anyway, I firmly believe that this game should have been third one in the series, and if the devs were adamant on killing off Joel then I'm willing to make sacrifices, just please, PLEASE, if they killed Joel they could have given us a Gandalf falls with the Balrog in LOTR kind of vibe. And someone has to say this, this game needed more Gustavo Santaolalla and the original score in my honest opinion.
Bottom line is, it looks like many disliked Abby and still didn't care for her backstory. I think trying to evade her as she hunts Joel for the entire game would've been more interesting. In the end Joel and Ellie fail and Abby kills Joel. Joel dies in Ellie's hands while the TLOU music plays and Ellie quietly whispers DON'T DO THIS TO ME (like Joel and Sarah in the first Game).

There is so much more to say... it could have been so much better...

The combat was fun (the was is important later), the graphics are beautiful, the environments and level design is amazing, and the voice acting is impeccable. However, the reason why this game is a 6 or 7 is purely due to the gameplay and story. The combat was fun. The first ten hours in you enjoy the combat and its a blast to play but eventually, it becomes a tedious drag similar to red dead redemption 2. The AI is laughably bad, I'd argue its nearly as bad if not worse than assassin's creed AI. This brings the game automatically to an 8 or 9, but now its the story. I really don't want to go into detail with this simply because it would require a whole essay to describe all my problems with this game. The simple facts are the reason why this story is bad is due; 1) Abby, 2) Character inconsistencies from the last game (Joel and Tommy), 3) the revenge bad plotline, and 4) pretty much every new character actually. This video game does not deserve a 100, what the hell do those who rated it so highly think? It doesn't deserve 35 either, its graphics are very good, its soundtrack, and its gameplay is much better than the first part, but its history is like a bad season of THE WALKING DEAD, for me it deserves:

Because in a game like this the most important thing is the story, and Neil Druckmann destroyed the characters of the first part, **** on all fans of the game.

I put in 15 hours so far with this game. I have to say overall it's decent. It isn't bad but it isn't good either. Want happen with these major video game critics? But you're telling me every critic loved it? I'm just not buying it...Don't get me wrong... Last Of Us: Part 2 has solid gameplay and beautiful graphics. But there's alot of problems with the story. It feels like it was slap together with no thought put into it. The only thing they did right with the game is the character built up with Joel and Ellie. Especially Ellie and Abby. Than you have those brief moments that really connect you to the game and it's characters. Which Naughty Dog did a fantastic job in doing. But it doesn't make up for the mediocre revenge story. They could have taken story at any direction 3 hours into the game. I feel like most critics are giving it superb ratings more for the graphics and the gameplay. Which they should always focus on what comes first, the story! Especially with a game that is story based only! And with that regard. I feel that this game was overhyped! It's a Rent, not a Buy. I do recommend people playing it for themselves and renting before spending $60 on it. Some will like part 2 some will dislike it. Graphics: 10/10
    Gameplay: 9/5
    Sound/Music: 9/5
    StoryMode: 5/10

Was it difficult to make two separate versions of this game - a regular one and a new LGBTBLMSJW Edition? Then everyone would be happy.

I found myself pausing the game a lot just to take in the immense narrative that this game presents. The Last Of Us Part 2 definitely contains a good story, but I think it’s a bad video game. Druckmann would be more suited to making films and television. I admire his bravery in telling a story strictly about survivors, rather than your basic hero versus villian narrative. The truth is I found myself bored a lot playing this game when I wasn’t watching a cinematic — I simply didn’t think the gameplay mechanics were up to par with the miraculous story and actor performances at display. For this I can’t give it a perfect score. Although I am absolutely looking forward to the HBO series. Expand

The gameplay is a ton of fun but it turns into a tedious slog about halfway through and, a solid chunk of the game is spent just walking or riding a horse. I would be fine with any major character dying as long as they justify it, but they don’t. It’s a messy plot with like 2 likable characters and it’s also full of plot holes. If the game had a better more focused plot, more ACTUAL GAMEPLAY (walking sections don’t count) and was about 10 hours shorter it would be a lot better. This game is a big mixed bag. Definitely not perfect like critics are saying and definitely not a complete dumpster fire like the user scores are saying. Expand

Overall not the best plot I've seen in my life and one of the best graphics I've stumbled upon.
7/10 if I forget that this "Second Part" relates to the first one - with the best plot ever.

Negatives: The plot was not written well, it tries to be original, but is just **** The game focusses too much on sending a message about revenge and not enough on enjoiment of the 25 hours your playing it. I am absolutely depressed now

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Contras:

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
