This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, well, well. For the past 7 years, I have never wanted anything as badly as I wanted a TLOU sequel. Nothing at all. It was my favorite game of all time, apart from Bioshock, and I gotta say, I'm disappointed. The scenery and the graphics are all gorgeous. The gameplay was basically the same as last time around, which I have no problem with. But the story? The story was a gut punch. Kudos to the dev team for wanting to try something different, I have no problem with that and I respect their choice to do so. Killing Joel was a perfectly fine way to go, I think that idea was good for the overall story and furthering Ellie's story. But man, after 7 years of waiting to keep going along for the ride with Ellie and all the promotional stuff leading us to believe we were in it for the long haul with Ellie, boom, HALF OF THE STORY FOLLOWS THE WOMAN WHO KILLED THE (albeit terrible human being) MAN WE LOVED. That's why this game disappointed me. Was Abby's story empathic and a cool twist that we weren't expecting? Of course. I have no issue with dabbling in that territory. But good lord, for half of the game? A game that was what, 30 hours long? Nope, sorry that ain't it chief. Cut a 3rd of the game out, let Ellie get her revenge (or let her live like she did in the game, I don't care), and then let's move on and give Ellie more to do. More to overcome, more to grow in her new post-Joel life with Dina. Do I understand Abby and her motivations? Yes. Was her storyline with Lev endearing? Yes. Do I care about it? No, not really. This was supposed to be Ellie's story and it ended up being half her story. It was a new and ambitious way to tell a story, but to me personally, it just didn't really hit. I could never bring myself to really care about Abby's character. I'm 1000% envious of the people who could really get into her character and loved her and loved that story dynamic, and maybe I will too after another play-through or two. But my instant feelings are one of disappointment, but that's just one humble mans opinion. Oh, and to all the people bashing the game over its LGBTQ inclusion, 2 female leads or anything stupid like that, it's 2020. Grow up already. Dislike the game for real reasons, not bigoted, idiotic ones. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, it's not a bad game, but not a good one either.
In my opinion, the story is decent, not nearly as good as the first game's story, but still ok. The biggest flaw it has is the presentation and the order the events are shown in.
Abby is a decent character, and to be honest I found myself more invested in her story than in Ellie's mainly because she doesn't appear as just a character dominated by one single wish which is to take revenge, although I must admit that they forced you a bit too much to care for her. Her killing Joel would have been better if the players knew who she was and why she did it first, instead of her showing up out of nowhere and bam, Joel's now dead.
I'm really bothered by the fact that Joel was reduced to having two appearances before dying, which is a horrible decision. Why not show the flashbacks first and tell the story chronologically? Just a horrible decision overall.
Also, I didn't find myself caring about any of the new characters they introduced besides Abby, which was because they shoved the fact that you must care about her for the story to work, and all the deaths in this game carry nothing with them, not even a trace of significance for the plot or the characters.
Also, what's with all the SJW stuff in the game, like all the male characters that matter to the story besides Tommy and Lev dying until the end? They were just not necessary and they don't bring anything to the game besides pleasing hardcore feminists or whatever.
The character development for Ellie is just a mess. Besides the final farm scenes where she maybe kinda tries to walk away from what happened for what felt like 5 minutes, she's just a bland character obsessed with revenge.
The gameplay, although it doesn't bring many new stuff to the first game's gameplay, was more fun mainly because the fights were more satisfying, and you have more ways to play the game in a stealth fashion with craftable silencers and bows that are straightforward to aim with.
Scavenging is pretty fun, although a bit excessive at times, with the absurd amount of safes that you have to find codes for.
The graphics, environment and voice acting are just amazing, no other way to put it.

Overall, it's certainly not a bad game, but the story is just a mess in the way it's presented and gameplay can feel a bit exhausting at times.

    TL DR :
    Graphics - 10/10
    Gameplay - 8/10
    Story - 4/10

I will say though the game play is excellent, the graphics are amazing, and I'm one of the few people who preferred Abbey's campaign over Ellie's. Abbey's just had more weight to it. The thing is though, I think the fact that all the critics reviewed this as being perfect (and many fan boys/girls) just shows how rose colored the glasses are of certain people. Sadly they are the ones who review games, and perhaps need to read more books and watch more films, because this game is far from perfect. Expand

I was a huge fan of the first game not because of the gameplay (aiming is still frustrating) or graphics (revolutionary at the time), but because of the plot. I could end this review by just saying that me and loads of fans would be better off if the second part didnt exist, but unfortunately it does.

Once again, the graphics are outstanding, probably the best I've seen on ps4. The amount of details, level design, the variety of locations is top notch. But the story is really weak. The characters we love are unrecognisable and are turned into complete jerks, who sometimes look like even they can't justify or understand their actions.

The whole idea to show us the "villains" point of view is interesting and I was intrigued in the middle of the game, wondering what will happen next. But I just could not get myself to worry about Abby or Mel (pregnant woman goes on a dangerous mission and is fine with it, like cmon. she is a doctor aswell, but it totally fine with it) or any other new characters.
The ending is the worst part, its totally devastating and unbelievably unsatisfying. The game had enourmous potential and technically is done very well. But the plot is horrendous and is basically done like the last season of GOT.

If you were wondering what kind of game results from the writer/director sniffing his own farts so much and so often that he deprived oxygen to his brain and decides to make a hamfisted trainwreck of a sequel just to be the biggest edgelord on the hill, well....here you have it. Could've been a great sequel and a great series. Truly a shame. At least the first one will be remembered fondly.

Oh, and look out for those wielding their political hammer, labeling anyone who doesn't like the game a bigot or a phobe. Real mature. I'm sure they all feel just as self righteous as the director of this game.

I picked the game little late and was aware of all the hate towards the game. People defending the game said it was hate bcoz of Feminism, Death of a major character, Political message (have no idea what it meant), or Lesbian etc....No I didn't hate the game bcoz of any of these. Lets go further starting with positives.

    Pros:
Like every Naughty Dog games, Graphics in this game is beautiful
    Some brilliant design Levels
Good Game play with some realistic shooting mechanics
Enemy AI was great (Many Stealth games we see enemies search for you sometime and then go back; Not the case here, enemies are aggressive from the moment you are spotted)

    Cons:

    STORY. STORY. STORY **Spoilers follow****

What starts as revenge story, goes into something else. And they ask you to play as Abby (Antagonist) for half the game which made me irritated. To me her father decided to kill a small girl without anyone's consent (he was wrong). Joel protected the kid and killed him for raising the knife at him. Joel was a hero and Abby torturing to death without knowing the real incident that led to her Father's death, makes her a villain in my eyes. So the makers decided to show the game from Abby's side, trying to project revenge is not good was all some bull**** piece of writing. In fact they were contradicting their stance on the first game. Game drags like anything in the last portion, there were 2-3 moments I thought the game was over but it kept on going. Ending was absolutely bad, making me wonder what was the overall point of the game. I wish they never made the 2nd half of the game or taken a different storyline or best of all "I wish this sequel was never made"

Last of Us was a one off with a logical ending point and making a 2nd one is a disingenuous thing from a company that hasn't made a decent product in decades and every day is getting destroyed by Microsoft, LG, Samsung, Apple, and Disney.

As for this game, it's graphically appealing. The visuals look like they should be after an extensive development cycle. But that's the only bright spot. The story is slow, filled with holes, and is relatively pointless. The game is dark just to be dark. No light moments, no humor, no anything. Just a miserable existence. The gameplay is boring, and too many times you get to an area where there is nothing to do. It's like Naughty Dog wanted to make an open world game, but are incapable of doing so, so they went back to a linear nonsensical story. Gun play is as bad as the first game. Many new characters that are unlikable and meaningless. Another issue, if I wanted to watch a movie, I would watch a movie. This "game" is full of cut scenes. Way too many cut scenes. Clearly Naughty Dog was unable to create a game of a decent length, so it used quite a lot of filler.

Finally, this game is 10 hours too long. What should've been a 15 hour experience turned into a 25 hour snooze due to all the excessive filler. I am not sure why Naughty Dog went the route they did, but I now fully understand why so many of their devs now work for Xbox. If this is the best that studio can do, leaving the studio to express your creativity elsewhere is the best option.

I wanted to give this game a 6.5, but Metacritic doesn't do halves, and 7 is too high for this game.

The Last of Us Part 2 makes two huge mistakes in its narrative structure. One massive, the other unforgivable.

As per my promise of no spoilers in my review I will share that this game's narrative structure could have worked and left a compelling and thought-provoking impact on the players but with the two issues alluded to previously it falls apart and from those points forward, the game loses any emotional impact and is finishes with an unresolved and unearned conclusion.

Games as an experience are perfectly welcome, but without proper narrative structure, the experience falls flat.

Unfortunate. I hope they don't make these mistakes in the future.

Golden seals for the acting and the visuals of the game. Ashley Johnson as Ellie being the main focus performed flawlessly and deserves the praise. Everyone else, they were fine, no real complaints from the performances.

The characters of The Last of US Part 2 were much more narrow and unfocused than Part 1. Which really hurt any connection one might develop to them and certain character deaths remain without impact.

Despite Laura Bailey's incredible work with Abby, the character was simply set up to be despised from the start. And all the attempts to make her understood failed miserable. I again refer to the poor narrative structure that caused this.

I congratulate the economical success this game is. But, as a player and fan, I am immensely disappointed.

EDIT: When I originally posted a score of 3, I was not aware of the main reason people hate on others who dislike the game. Most of us can agree that anyone who uses the phrase "sjw game" is someone with whom the rest of us can do without. Such a prominent release being brave enough to embody inclusiveness is obviously a respectable thing. So my rating is back up to a 5. That said, there are legitimate reasons for which many of us are disappointed with this game. Certain narrative/design decisions, while I understand to what they are aimed (those who condescend to people for not 'getting it' are just as annoying as those who generalize the majority for aspects of the minority), ultimately feel like punishment for anticipating this game for so long. And yeah, giving away those decisions in marketing would spoil things, but selling people the game they wanted, while providing something very different, is...not good. So all I'm saying in terms of understanding that it's ok to not like this game, is don't lump everyone who is disappointed into the category of the pejorative: 'hater.' Most of the people who are disappointed in this game are disappointed for legitimate reasons. If you can't respect that, well, you are part of the problem that is this narrative that's detracting from conversations concerning the actual merit of the matter at hand.

The actors on the other side, brought those characters to life in such a heartbreaking way, especially Ashley, this woman always works hard to deliver an authentic performance, and now she was joined by Shannon Woodward, who as well we gotta praise her for her amazing performance/ I loved it.
    The story:
I couldn't asked for a better opening to this game, the first 2 hours into this game were really beautiful, the flashbacks were really touching and such a thoughtful idea from the writers. The transition to 4 years later was epic, i loved how we dive into Ellie's new world, and we get to witness this conversation with her new people, jesse was a good addition to this small journey we had at the beginning, their conversation had some mystery as we get to discover what Ellie is up to as they talk about Dina who we haven't met yet, so the beginning here is something i have enjoyed, I enjoyed the acting so much and their small trip/ then we get to play as a character we don't know, and then I started losing interest, i signed up to play as Ellie and joel for this game not Abby, and if the creators thought we would feel sorry for abby as we play her, they thought wrong, we could have understood her pain through Ellie's perspective, this game could have been about forgiveness!
I wasn't against the idea of joel's death, but it was brutal, and happened way too soon!
I loved the company of dina through this revenge journey, very cool idea, what i didn't like is tommy going first!!!
Then again, neil gave his Ellie unnecessary trauma and pain for nothing, he could have given her a happy ending and end of story i wouldn't be mad right now that he ruined a character i cared about!
so i hated playing as the enemy, i don't see any philosophy behind this stupid 2 perspectives, and at the end they could have given us the choice of killing her or not!
plus it was selfish of neil to destroy those characters, there was no open mind for me, and abby was a useless addition, plus anger takes of her when joel is died, so again we were angry and we HATE HER. anyways why Ellie had to lose 2 fingers, isn't this fiction for god's sake?
This is neil's story and he said fu to the fans, like literally! this is not a game for the fans, this is him being selfish!
    This gam
again for all those 0 reviews, fu 2, don't be a **** this games doesn't deserve 0 because joel died, there are good things about it, again fu for giving it a 0, you're just as stupid as neil druckmann!

So I feel this game is a 5/10, to some it might seem low and to other's it might feel high but I'll explain below.

So I feel this game is a 5/10, to some it might seem low and to other's it might feel high but I'll explain below.

To start I did not enjoy TLOU2 personally. I didn't think it was a good game in terms of story or gameplay especially and the new characters varied from unremarkable to average.

    Pros:

    - Art style: TLOU always had a beautiful art style and this sequel is no different, in terms of environmental design it is stunning at times especially seeing Seattle overgrown with foliage. You truly get the image of a civilization in ruins while traversing it.

    - Sound Design: TLOU was heralded for its beautiful soundtrack and ambient sounds and this sequel measures up to that. And while I may have personally preferred the original's soundtrack, that isn't a knock on the sequels. There were some truly inspired choices used and it is definitely one of the games highlights.

    - Character Design: With the exception of a few characters, the overall character design ranges from average to great for the setting it is in. It's nothing monumental, no truly awe inspiring designs but the ones that you do see are more often then not good.

    - Performance: Voice acting in this game is phenomenal with probably a single character whom I didn't feel the voice fit the character. Troy Baker as Joel is an absolute highlight again managing to capture the pained and conflicted anti hero and Ashley Johnson is masterful as Ellie making you truly feel what she is going through.

    Cons:

    - Story: I understand what they were hoping to accomplish with the story but for me and seemingly many others it fell flat. The story came across akin to a fanfiction written by someone who truly hated the first game, and that becomes obvious within the first 3 hours of the campaign where a formerly leading protagonist is absolutely disrespected with their legacy ultimately leading to nothing and their death being purely for shock value. And the character responsible for his death never reaches the sympathetic protagonist archetype that they were going for. Instead it does a disservice to the characters affected by it and the game suffers as a whole.

    - Gameplay: TLOU was never heralded for it's impressive gameplay but I had hoped that with 7 years under their belt, Naughty Dog would have managed to improve vastly upon what came before. Instead it appears that what we received was not even a refinement, but simply a few additions in the form of dodge and momentary incapacitation. This leads to stagnant and monotonous gameplay repetition that becomes tedious a few yours in. If you played TLOU1, you'll be familiar with the playstyles.

Enemy AI: There is no easy way to put this, enemy AI in this game is bad, very very bad. TLOU1 had laughably bad AI at the time of it's release but even 7 years later with massive system upgrades the enemy AI is only fractionally better then what came before. For context I recently played through Watch Dogs, a game that was released in 2014. To me that game had vastly superior enemy AI as they had heightened detection and posted more of a challenge.

Enemy variation: This is another area that suffered in TLOU2, the enemy variety is lacking, very lacking. And that along with the gameplay hurts the overall experience.

Level Design: TLOU2 suffers from having to me at least very straightforward encounters. You are more often then not thrown into an area with only 1-2 ways to handle said scenario often resulting in the same outcome. The lack of variety to the levels as well as the above reasons makes gameplay tedious at times.

Overall like I said, I did not enjoy The Last of Us 2 myself, I understand why some loved it and I understand why some hate it. But despite the pro's I listed, I can't get myself to give it any higher than a 5. I loved The Last of Us, but the sequel seemed to make it a mission to undo what the first game had built up resulting in characters I didn't care for, a pointless death which amounted to nothing in the end and sadly far too many missteps for me to rank it any higher.

I have no doubt that the developers poured plenty of work into this game, but sadly I can not rate it any higher than I have. I hope they take the criticism to heart and work to improve going forward. Sadly I think it is time to let The Last of Us franchise end. This was an anticipated but unnecessary sequel that ultimately did more harm then good.

I won't go into the spoilers, however just understand that where the first game managed to ratchet up the tension and involve you in the characters, this one failed.

The characters are just unlikeable, and sometimes do quite stupid things plot wise that seem unbelievable - and the characters and plot are tighly coupled to enjoyment of a game in a narrative adventure experience like this. So bad characters + plot holes = significantly reduced quality of game, despite the rest of the clear expertise that put together the other parts of the game.

And no, just to distinguish myself from a lot of the other reviews that seem a bit too fixated on the LGBT characters, I do not have 1 problem with LGBT stuff being in games, that stuff does not bother me at all and I'm very positive towards representation. But no matter the stripes of the characters, it's all moot if they aren't done well.

Also didn't really like the ending choice, the Abby character introduction is just a pain in the ass, all Abby chapters were like side quests, but we're playing TLOU2 for great pacing, great story not for having hard time finishing boring chapters like Abbys are. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game yesterday and had been waiting in anticipation for this game for months. The hype was real. Naughty Dog has the reputation of making magic with video games and I'd hoped that TLOU2 would be a masterpiece too. The game starts off slow with rustic guitar piece all familiarising you with the setting that this is based in. Humanity has survived and they have build settlements with electricity and other niceties, life seems to go on within such settlements oblivious to the ongoings of the outer world. Jackson is one such community. Joel and Ellie live here with other support cast (Tommy, Dina and Jesse). They are estranged owing to what happened in the first part. Yet they have some fondness for each other. Joel is killed off almost immediately by Abby in spite of the fact that he just saved her (Motive : Abby's father was killed by Joel while trying to rescue Ellie from the hospital). Yet I'd have preferred some empathy for a man that just saved her life. Also it was anti climactic to see Joel being so naive and walk into a trap. This sets Ellie on crazy revenge path. They (Ellie, her girlfriend Dina, Tommy and Jesse) go to Seattle separately and start knocking WLF numbers down. WLF is the group that Abby is part of. They kill of Abby's friends and this ticks Abby off and she kills few of Ellie's and just about the time she is to kill Ellie (15 hours into the game), we are set onto Abby's flash back (Frustrating). The game now forces us to relive what Abby was doing for three days when Ellie was killing her friends. This is a solid ten hour nightmare with a person that you have been bought to hate. Extremely inconsequential stuff with random NPC's added (Lev and Yara), you do fetch quests for them, forge relationship with Owen (Teenage sweetheart who is married) and manage to survive while being an outcast from WLF. Also by the end of ten hours you don't start empathizing with Abby but are rather focused on getting over the tedium and completing the game. The gameplay mechanics while upgraded (jump, prone, rope usage etc.) are nothing to write home about and the shooting is exactly the way it was - clunky. The animations are fabulous and so is the art direction, the game looks like every last ounce of PS4 Pro's graphical prowess has been extracted There are wide open spaces which are awe inspiring and beautiful. You'd be able to visualise the nature in all its glory. However every destination needs you to enter a dingy dark building filled with infected, use the environment in some twisted way or fight random group of enemies. I used to dread when the game required me to go somewhere which was more than two blocks away. The stealth works just till it doesn't and the enemy AI is laughable. Now since you have put 20 odd hours (10 of them as Abby), you really need a fantastic climax to make it worth it. But to our dismay once we are bought back to present in the theater, nothing of that sort happens and an ancillary character Lev belonging to SCARS (WLF's nemesis) clan (had saved Abby's life) requests Abby to not kill Dina & Ellie and Abby agrees. Next off we are shown that Ellie and Dina are living the perfect farm life with Dina's son keeping them company (The game doesn't end here too).Tommy who miraculously survived getting shot, stirs the hornets nest by stating that he knows where Abby is. This sets off Ellie on one another mission (Noooooo). The game by this point feels drab and dragged by 10 hours. Ellie rescues Abby only to state that she can't let her go and they fight and finally when Ellie has the upper hand she decides to forgive Abby and move on. Now if this is what she had to do why did she make us go through the pain of playing for twenty five hours while convincing us that she'd kill every one of them. Where this morality came from at the most inopportune moment. The game has no real story arc and you'll not connect with any of the characters including Ellie. The game tries too hard to please everyone and also be a maverick/trend setter but forgets the core which got us to love part 1 ; that is story telling and relatable characters, everything else is just a fancy garnish. ZERO character development, weak and lazy story telling. The two largest twists of the story were completely anticlimactic and a big middle finger to the fans of the first game. It's also extremely clear that Naughty Dog had a political agenda when creating thisZERO character development, weak and lazy story telling. You aren't likely to get attached to any of the characters in the new game, which is really shocking for a Naughty Dog title. It's also extremely clear that Naughty Dog had a political agenda when creating this game. Let me be clear, it's not the agenda that makes the story a 0/10. It's the agenda coupled with a complete disregard for what the fan base deems as beloved characters as well as a completely inconsistent story with very little depth. Unfortunate, considering the studios last 5 new gen games had some of the best storytelling in video game history.

Gameplay didn't see much of an improvement over the first game, but it didn't need to improve here. Graphics on the other hand are leaps and bounds greater than the previous game and I didn't even think that was really possible after the first game was remastered for PS4.

Sadly the story is the most important part of any game like this. And the first game was so well done that it was hard for any game to live up to the high bar it set. Unfortunately, this not only didn't reach the bar the first game set, this set that bar on fire as if it never existed.

The first title should've never received a sequel with the same characters if it was to be done so poorly. To me, Last of Us is the only game in this "franchise".

Graphically and gameplay-wise, I have a hard time giving this less than a 7, but because the story is so poorly done, so poorly thrown together and is such an integral part of the franchise that this game is a 5 for fans, a 7 for newcomers. A 6 is fair. This is the Haze of the PS4.

Obviously it looks and sounds amazing and the acting is second to none. While the game play isn't fantastic I think it serves it's purpose just fine. Hell, there are even some elements of the story I liked but man, for the most part the story is a complete mess. This game introduced a ton of new characters, only 2 or 3 of them get any development or significant screen time and I'm expected to feel bad for killing them on more than a basic human empathy level. I think the biggest problem this game has is it's structure. There are scenes where I thought they were only there cause they didn't know where else to put them. If the game started with the three flashback scenes of Joel and Ellie and also Built up Abby in that time before she kills Joel the story would already be five times better than it already is. This game needed a better writer to fully take advantage of the themes that had been chosen. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of Us part 2, is a direct sequel to the beloved 2013 game with masterpiece storytelling called the Last of Us. The sequel, Last of Us part 2 left me confused and puzzled, but in the end it is an okay game, just not on par with the first game.
So let's get this straight, TLOU2 has AMAZING visuals. Like really game looks fantastic graphically, and the gameplay elements are mostly the same as the first game. The acting of the actors, without judging the roles they play is also phenomenal. They did a truly great job in this section of the game.
Now comes the most hated section. The writing of the game.
The Last of Us part II's writing is average. For something as good as last of us, the story is a bit bland and is a generic revenge based story. There are quite some plot holes and lots of confusion at times. Characters introduced are bland and uninteresting and their motives are not well explained either. Character development is barely done, and you can't even connect with most new characters unlike the characters from TLOU 1. Relationships are just thrown in and out randomly without any actual development. Unlike most critic reviews, the characters are really forgettable.
    *
    *Spoilers below**

Joel's death early in-game causes Ellie to be enraged to take revenge from Abby, but at the end she forgives her. I found the ending foolish but as I replayed the game a few more times I understood it. The game's story revolves around the cycle of revenge. If Ellie killed Abby, her friends would take revenge from Ellie and so on. Ellie apparently ended this cycle and moved on from grieving for Joel.

This was an interesting theme of a story, but really poorly implemented. The writing has to be the biggest flaws of this game and the reason why everyone hates this game. Not because people are homophobic or Anti-LGBT, it's just because the people generally dislike the flaws of the story. 2ndly, you get to play as Abby, (who killed Joel) without any main backstory! You get only few flashbacks and move on in control of her, with the game showing these minor flash back moments so the player could "sympathise" with Abby.

The biggest reason for the hate against Naughty Dog is their inability to acknowledge the flaws of the game or the general dislike of it from some of their fans. If they had acknowledged their opinion instead of calling them homophobic and not have a very high ego, things might have played a bit differently.

So yeah I give this game a 7/10 because honestly, 0-1 reviews make no sense, if you give that number review to this game, you really haven't played games worth 1/10's. TLOU2 is far more worth than a 1, despite its obvious flaws.

While a solid game in terms of change from the first, the introduction of a new character into the mix was not expected nor in my opinion necessary. When we first meet Abby in the beginning of the game, we are immediately informed why she’s in Jackson. It’s to kill Joel. As a fan of the first game, I was not ok with this but I understood why someone would seek revenge for the murder of a loved one. Abby succeeds in her mission and this is my first complaint with the game. The way Joel was killed did not vibe with me very well. Him telling Abbys group his real name is something he would never do. His death puts Ellie on the war
path for revenge and makes her almost unlikeable in the way she goes about seeking revenge by murdering a ton of people and dogs along the way made her seem unlikeable. When the game changes to Abby halfway through and tries to make her relatable. In my eyes it fails. What she did to Joel is completely unforgivable. I don’t care what Joel did. Overall, the mechanics were great though because it added new things like going prone and tall grass to hide in and as Ellie an unbreakable shiv in her knife. Which was awesome. The ending was absolute garbage. Will most likely not play again.

The gameplay itself is fun, if not a bit repetitive, and the same as the first game. The sections with infected that feel like a survival horror game are easily the highlight of the game, which creates legitimate tension while you are trying to sneak around or fight your way out. Sadly, the main draw of this game is where it falls the most flat, the story. For me, it came to a screeching halt at about the mid-point of the game. Building Abby up to be so objectively evil in the eyes of the player and Ellie, and then expecting the player to play as Abby for 10+ hours in some bizarre attempt to make us sympathize with her just did not work. By the time that switch was made, I had been looking forward to getting my revenge SO much that once I realized she had her own skill tree (meaning I would be playing as her for a while), I stopped playing for 3 days. It had killed all the momentum that the game had at that point, and forcing a “reset” mid-game just made me feel like all I had done so far was for nothing. And anyone who knows how the game ends will know, this game exists for nothing. There’s no story payoffs, no shift in the world after everything happens, it was for nothing. Main characters get killed and then never mentioned again, or grieved for. I feel like if this game was shorter, and more focused, the story had potential to be good. But as it is, it feels like a story that just drags on for the sake of stretching things out, like they had some arbitrary number of hours they wanted it to be, and that they filled it with uninteresting and repetitive story beats to try and draw parallels between the 2 playable characters, but without making one of them likable or interesting enough for me to be invested in her story; forcing me to slog through it to finish the game out of an obligation to see the ending, because of my love of the first game. First I’m gonna about the first TLOU. You get to see Joel and Ellie strengthening their bond while crossing the whole country through many cities, towns, fighting against many different enemies in different environments throughout four seasons in a year. We get to see a bad-ass Joel, who is a perfect Father Figure and Ellie - a playful but fearsome 14-yo girl, and seeing them together talking and helping each other out is something I’ve never seen in any forms of entertainment. The ending was so good that I never thought there would be a sequel. BUT LET’S GET REAL HERE... the sequel is just a mess.
In TLOU part 2. It can be seen that the basics stayed almost the same. The graphic is enormously improved and the environment is much more richer and more realistic. Gameplay is improved and songs are excellent - they made mighty impacts on players’ feelings and emotions. But what disappointing was the storytelling. Everything should be connected together from the previous part in a logical and sensible way, but they just use the fact that Joel killed a significantly unimportant surgeon to try to save Ellie, just to make TLOU 2 happened seems really fanfic. Character development is poor and insignificant, like besides from Ellie and Joel, I hardly get a feeling for any characters else. Playing as Ellie doesn’t have the same vibe as the first part when she pretty much just mumbles around being sad because Naughty Dogs’ stupid storytelling (Don’t get me wrong, she’s still awesome and all). Environmental puzzles just disappears, and instead you just follow the route and that’s it. This is spoil-free but half of the game you just play as someone who’s NOT Ellie and it’s pointless. Even up until the end, all I did was watching Joel and Ellie cut-scenes.
My expectation was to see Joel and Ellie rolling again together, but instead ND just punches us hard in the face from the beginning and tries to relief us in the second useless half of the game. When you get to the point when you play as an another character, you’ll be missing playing Ellie so hard.
I love TLOU, I love seeing Joel and Ellie together. I mean this review is a mess already, just like TLOU 2.
IF YOU’RE UP TO THE GAMEPLAY, GO AHEAD AND PLAY. But if you really care about the relationship between Joel and Ellie, or what was good about the first TLOU, keep yourself away from the game, you can listen to Ellie and Joel singing, but don’t play the game.
UPDATE: JUST FINISHED THE GAME, AND IT’S A MESS. RATED FROM 6 TO 2

I played the original TLOU back in 2015 or so, and I've been excited for the sequel for years. We pre-ordered it, and I don't think I've ever been so excited for a game in my life. The 2018 E3 presentation had me elated. I'm a lesbian, and Ellie felt like such a relatable character and in such a huge franchise, it just felt like this amazing gift.

Now that I've finished it, I'm so disappointed that I almost want to cry. I'm sure I will later.

I'll keep this spoiler free. This is a 10/10 game in a lot of ways. I am blown away by basically every aspect of this game aside from a couple of things. But one of them is so important to me that I had to take off so many points from the total score.

The first one I'll warn people about is that this is kind of a horror game at times, in ways that the first one was not. It's scary, stressful, and it took a huge toll on me both emotionally and even physically. (I had an upset stomach for several days and had to take a break after a particularly scary sequence.) This game is also a lot darker in general than the original. Actually both in terms of available light (tons of flashlight use here where it would otherwise be pitch black; this gave me a headache a couple of times and I had to take a break,) and thematically. I'm sensitive. Your milage may vary! I wouldn't take any points off for this alone.

And now for the big disappointment: this wasn't the game I was expecting. It wasn't the game that I wanted. I wish they had used those phenomenal resources on a different story. What I was looking so forward to was a game about Ellie. Some kind of adventure that she goes on, twists and turns, grows as a person--just typical good story things. A revenge plot could have been fine, but I wanted a character focused game. Instead, this is a game about "the cycle of violence." The characters/plot were a vehicle to tell a story about the cycle of violence. This game is extremely violent. It's stressful. A lot of the time it's grueling. A lot of the time it felt like it was trying to teach me a lesson (that I'm not sure I needed to be taught.) It made me do all kinds of things that I didn't want to do. I thought it would be worth it to see the story through, but I'm not sure that it was. :( To me, the ending was not satisfying. I'm not even sure I like Ellie anymore. It all feels kind of pointless. Maybe that's making a good point about violence and revenge. But does that make for a fun game and a satisfying adventure story?

Anyway, I do want to keep it spoiler free so there's a lot I can't say, but just know that if you loved the first game and are looking for a sequel that feels similar to that game... you might be disappointed. I almost feel like this game would be better for people who have not already played the first game. It's hard for me to judge the quality of this game because I'm just so disappointed. I spent $80 to get headaches, stomach aches, stress, and see one of my favorite video game characters of all time get sort of ruined.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay is a little stale on anything but the higher difficulties - probably the poor AI. Scavenging does get a little annoying after a while but being able to jump and go prone finally do help round off what is a solid gameplay arc.

Really enjoyed the story, even being a big huge fan of the original. A couple of choices were confusing but overall I was happy with the way it all wrapped up.

I liked the switch in perspective, as it let you see just how the actions of Joel in the first game actually had an effect on the game world - even though the new characters can feel a little hollow at times. It would have been nice to see the other factions get fleshed out a little more towards the latter half of the game.

By no means perfect, but I really enjoyed, and the story was interesting to say the least. Really hoping that some DLC does come though, even though it doesn't look like there will be. Would be neat to see some other POV for characters or even just where the story started for characters like Lev and Yara.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The reason why i have given this game such a low score is due to the false advertising at the teasing of this game where they blatantly used Joel in their trailers making the whole last of us community believe that he would join Ellie's journey but they instead swap these cinematics with Jesse, which is just a another way they destroyed their own reputation. Additionally, the only critic that give the best response with constructive criticism is IGN Japan, the gameplay of this game is fantastic but the story is the heart and soul of the game and that's completely destroyed by politics which the last game did not blatantly push in your face. i can see why Naughty dog lost a large amount of its employees one of my speculations is probably because the writer and director Neil Druckmann can not take any constructive criticism but would rather call you a bigot or would just rather just take all the positive reviews. The game purposely wants to do a parallel between Ellie and Abby but it just does not sick together its just too forced and ruins the flow of the story. Finally, Abby kills Joel even though he saves her life without hesitation but when i comes to Lev and Yara they save her life but hesitate at the start but she spares them and helps them at the end, even though they have probably killed countless numbers of the WLF and her friends this is a plot hole which makes no sense at all. It would probably be better if they just left the last of us franchise alone instead of destroying it with every political statement. Expand

It was pretty bad. It was exhausting. The entire Abby part I just want it to be over. They dragged the story for too long, and they put small annoying things that it came out horrible.

    1. Making you kill dogs

    2. Playing Abby right after killing the only likeable character, Jesse.

    3. Irresponsible pregnant women jumping and running around

    4. That sex scene

    5. Making you play as Abby in the theater

When the game was firstly announced i was thrilled and could not wait a second more to get my hands on it. The first game was a masterpiece storywise, despite having clunky controls and mechanics. Until the last of us part 2 was launched i managed to steer clear of any story leaks because i wanted to enjoy the game at its full potential. Unlike other reviews out there, i fully completed the game so i consider my review to be relevant.
The last of us part 2 is a disappointment in the only area that mattered - STORY. After playing the first installment you will realize how smoothly and realistic the relationship between Ellie and Joel becomes throughout the game. Every character in the first game is well written and even if he has little time screen, he is still well drawn. In the sequel, all the chemistry is lost. I reckon that by now everyone has either played or watched someone play the last of us part 2 so people know that Joel dies in the worst way possible. I think that Neil Druckmann does not understand the fury of the fans: its not that they killed Joel, but his death felt like the work of someone who got bored of writing and just wanted to be done with it. The moment is sudden, does not fit with what gamers expected and it absolutely does not fit with how we know Joel would act in that instance.
I know that Neil called his fans bigots because he thinks that the whole population is against lesbianism; most of us allready knew from the "Left Behind" DLC that Ellie had different views and we had no problem with that, mostly because the way it was presented made sense and did not feel forced. In TLOU2 you are forced to play with Dina as a sidekick because the producer wanted to show us the difficulty of being a same sex couple in a world that never exists in real life. There were hundreds of different ways to send this message without feeling force fed to us. As a matter of fact, i didn't even like Dina that much because it always felt like her dramas were everyone's dramas.
There are not all negatives of course: the game mechanics are an improvement from the first game, graphics are top notch and the overall feeling of the surrounding world and how you interact with it is great. Unfortunately this is all the positives i have to say about this game. The game was too long and considering that this is not a Rockstar production then i don't see a point in making a 20-30 hour long story. Abby's story was not nearly as bad as people critic it but I think playing as her is unnecessary. What they tried to do in her side of the story is connect her with another character the same way as Joel and Ellie connected. I would call this a dualism as both stories flow the same way (main protagonist finds a sidekick that he/she cares about, they go on an adventure riddled with obstacles and so on). i would also call this laziness in writing but I acknowledge the fact that I might be wrong.
The ending is where the biggest difference is made. Had it not been for it, the game would have been a 7, or even an 8, but how the story finishes is just awful. It again feels as if they were taking too long to finish the game and just wanted to be over with. The developers wanted to make us understand that violence gets us nowhere and they are right, but not in a video-game. If i play something i want to do stuff that i wouldn't in the real world. So to put me in the middle of a fight and then stop because Ellie's conscious kicked in is just stupid and anti-climactic.
Last but not least I despise how Ellie is depicted - it feels totally out of place; from the girl that had funny remarks when faced with death, she turned into a regretting, sobbing character that feels as if she gave up. The most annoying part is near the end, where she has been drawn to resemble a hillbilly. She looks as if she drinks during the day and smokes near children. Yikes. Honestly she looks as if she gave up on life just to raise a child. Furthermore she dresses like she is about to go to a country festival in a beat up town.
To conclude, i think that there is still room to recover from this huge blow. What needs to be done is to fire that smug faced Druckmann, and go and beg Bruce Straley to come back and direct. If NaughtyDog wants to be the game-studio of choice for the consumers, then it should do as the consumer directs and not think about being politically correct. Even though there are many more to say ( like miss-directing the customer through advertising or how they said you don't have to kill a dog but you still have to) I think that this game is a total let-down. If the first game's story was all about "It can't be all for nothing" The Last of Us 2 story's is "it is all for nothing". Overall the game deserves a 6 out of 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me the Last of Us games are split 50/50 with one half about the mechanics, music, and graphics and the other half being the story. The first game smashed both and had a phenomenal story to which made you feel a proper connection between Joel and Ellie. So coming into the 2nd game with lose connections made it so hard to see Joel die, it was as if I’d lost someone in real life, the 1st game got me that connected. But I respect that decision and actually feel that was the best way to go about. Now the game could of done a few things like make us play as Abby first so we got more of an understanding from her side and maybe made us sympathies more with her. For me playing Abby was long and tenuous, but the one aspect I did like about it was seeing the side of what it’s like to be in faction (W.L.F). The ending I think could of been handled better we all have that connection with Ellie and so when she loses something it feels like we have to. So by going one more time to find Abby meant, not only had she already lost Joel but, she losses Dina and J.J and that last connection with Joel of playing the guitar, and in return she gets nothing back. I feel they could of allowed the ending too of gone two ways in which the player chooses to either stay with Dina and live her life or allow us to go and hunt down Abby and finish once and for all. This would of also of been interesting to see the stats of what people were choosing to stay with Dina or to go and kill Abby.

I’d still recommend buying this game because they do one half really well with the music, graphics and mechanics. They took a risk with the story and I don’t think it has paid of in the way they would of liked, I don’t think they realised how much of a connection we had with Joel and Ellie.

It is still a fun game to play and people complained about Dina and and Ellie’s relationship, Lev being trans-gender and Abby being to buff is just stupid. I liked what they did with Dina and Ellie and Lev it showed that even though the world had gone to **** there’s still that diversity.

Finally the one thing that concerns me now is if there is a 3rd game, if you remember when we first saw that teaser for Last of us 2 people went nut, people at the event where cheering. Now the only way I seeing there being a 3rd game is with Abby and Lev and could you imagine the response of a teaser trailer with those two. The reaction could be so bad there’s boo’s I’d like to hope there isn’t but there is very little if not no connection with Abby and Lev.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could have became a masterpiece, but instead it's just ok

This review's vote is dedicated mostly to the game-design and program team work. Suggestions and the general game review are below
The game had all the potential to became a good and progressive mirror of our days with unreasonable hate, murder and cruelty. Many things though are completley ruining all the good and bright ideas wich are the most important thing of a game like this one.
First of all, my condolences to the game-designers and program writers, this vote I give purley to your work with eyes completley closed to the storytelling and characters writing. You deserve a better story.

The 7 goes to incredible work:
attention to details is huge, the way Joel covers his eyes whle the sun is up too bright, the way that ice breaks under pressure, the snow melts on the character's jacket, all theuse things are impressive. The progressive face animation is gorgeous, the movemens are so natural, realistic and, at my opinion very beautiful
The gameplay is mostly the same of a 1st game so there are no disapointmens in here, with some more things to do, like the rope that you can now use to climb in some locations etc. (the camera movement though makes me a little nauseous, the less blur would be great :)

And w're done with positive aspects

FIrst of all, the characters. They are a quiet forgettable. Close to the end I didn't feel anything
They are written, in my honest opinion and in many others, really really poorley. The idea that they should bring us is too much at the surface. It could have remain the major important theme of the story, but with more "elegancy", I'd say, integrated better into a post-apocalypce world.
Instead of making us play 10 final hours straight to the unpleasant (for most fans of 1st game also hatefull) character with a sad-sad story wasn't a good move at all

I see it narrowed better in this way:

-Reduce these 10 hours of Abby gamplay to atleast 5-6. And then distribute all these hours in between the Ellie gameplay. Like: one day of Ellie in Seattle and then the same day of Abby but shorter. This would have made the story more intresting and less boring. (that's why 7 in tot for gameplay)

-All the actions have it's consequences. After the huge story (wich could have been legendary, but it is very very flat all the sudden) we have a pointless ending, that (as I personally understand it) should have show us how self-distructive is hate for both sides.

But it is not that intuitive as the developpers might have thought it. I pretty much hate the fact that when the most of the playes disiked the game, the developers and "huge fans" with anger are accusing these gameres in intolleransy and call them a closed-minded. I'm personally always pro the new ideas, the new, better world with no (or atleast with less) hate and ignorance. But I would rather like to speak and hear aboud it a more profound, less superficial way. We gamers are not stupid:D
When you throw a game like this, throw a bunch of money into a project, a Huge quantity of the human resource for at the end give us a really cheep story with magnificent decoration, it brings back as a response a lot of noise (I'm starting to think This was your goal), and insead of understanding the idea people doesn't even notice it. They are just feeling anger, saddness and emptyness because of a spit into a soul. Murder their favorite character in a brutal way and then cover it with a poorly written story? I understand the reasons, I know what Joel've done.
But then you make us play for the "antagonist" while trying to raise sympathy to it? You can't start to sympathize a person just because he saved a zebra once. You can't do in either just because that person had a beloved dog wich "mean" Ellie murdered in a cutscene (in self-defense, I remind you). Forcing to hate Ellie and love Abby feels queit wrong. This is a cheapest mode ever existed to provoke compassion. If only the Abby's story would have been told with more accuracy... With less stamps. I am really sorry for what she's been through in her childhood. I'd like to know better This story, than to see how the writers are worthlessly trying to create a parallel between the duet of Abby and a child she starts all of the sudden to carry about, and the immortal duet of Joel and Ellie. These two aren't to replace.

-At the ending I'd rather like to have a choice who to fight for in a final battle. After a better storytelling than it is now, understanding better real reasons of both sides a gamer would have think very carefully whose side he is in.
And than also to have an option: to kill or to spare a life
This ending would have blown everyone's mind

To return into a equilibrium position (tollerance) from one of the extremes(hate) the pendulum should first bend to an opposite extreme. how many old masterpiece games series will we lose trying to rich it? Atleast do it better
    Total game vote 3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, a lot has already been said about this game, much of it a clumsy, repetitive, awkward pounding of trite ideas, to the point where I have to tune it out just to keep my sanity. Which for me is a perfect metaphor for the narrative style of this game. I will preface this by saying, I really, really wanted to like this game. I gave it every chance, overlooking questionable decisions early on because I just wanted to really like it. I was totally on board for like the first 8 hours. I really was. But ultimately, whereas I didn't hate it, I didn't like it. It just .... was something I did for 25 hours. Long before it ended, I was done. Well, let's go with some positives, and yes, there are a lot; the world we inhabit is stunning. Amazing. How it looks, how it sounds, and how it feels to be in it. The AI is just awesome. Responsive, smart, and the Seraphites (although a pretty obvious rip off of the Walking Dead with the whistles and all) were a fun new wrinkle to deal with. The gameplay is fine, what I expected, and definitely serves the game well enough that I had no issues with it, though I won't say it broke any new ground, except maybe the prone movement was cool. Some of the new characters I liked a lot, and almost wish we could have seen more of Dina, Lev, and Jessie. The acting is top notch, even when the writing fails it. I'd even say the acting (and the animations that accompany it) saves parts of this game. Some of the cutscenes/flashbacks were very well done, and actually moved me. The final scene with Joel and Ellie makes me long for what the game could have been. But ultimately, this game is not about combat, or multi player, or any of that, this game was going to sink or swim on it's story. If you are going to take bold risks with storytelling, you have to craft it perfectly, be incredibly skilled as to how to tell a compelling story without letting me know what you're doing, without these "bold ideas" getting in the way of my involvement with the narrative. Instead, we end up completely trapped by it, with cheap manipulative pandering, and relentlessly pounded by an annoyingly repetitive, clumsy idea that SEE ABBY HAS A STORY TOO SHE ISN'T BAD SHE HAS A DOG GET IT SEE GET IT. Someone said it was like there was a neon sign in the back of each of Abby's scenes that said "PLEASE LIKE HER THE SCRIPT REALLY NEEDS YOU TO". I almost punched my screen when Yara says "oh Abby, you're such a good person". The repetitiveness and clumsiness insulted me, and ultimately bored me. It's not like it was a bad idea in concept; but it kinda felt like the writers had this idea, without the skills or craftsmanship to pull it off gracefully, and just went with cheap parlor tricks to manipulate us rather than a great story/character to involve us. I could see the themes they wanted to explore as a backdrop to tell a great story; with the right handling, it could work. But not AS the story. I mean, if you want to explore revenge, forgiveness and the cost of it all, OK, not that interesting, but OK, not awful either. But it just isn't sturdy enough to support the entire story on it's own, without anything else to prop it up, and eventually, the narrative buckles under that weight. It's almost like they wrote this as an exercise, something a 2nd year English class would do, "change the perspective of the story to make us sympathize with a previously hated character". This game would likely get a B- on that paper. They got so wrapped up in the theme, and the ideas, and the twists, and being all clever; they forget to tell a good story. I gotta admit, I was in shock when I found myself shouting at my screen, mocking the dialogue, Rocky Horror style, so relentless and clumsy was their attempt to make me "relate to Abby". But the real disaster there is; it took me out of the game. I was no longer in the game, but just watching it. I have to admit; that kind of deflated me a bit, because I really wanted to like this game a lot. All that said, in comparison to other games, it is not a bad game. At all. I applaud them taking the chance, and like I said, it looks and sounds amazing. It has it's positives. It gets a 7, because with they attempted, and how well they do parts of it, I have to grade it on that scale. But weirdly, sadly, and surprisingly, after years of anxiously waiting for this game, the one thing I did not think I would say after playing The Last of Us 2. I don't care if they make another one. And that kinda sucks. Expand

I absolutely loved the first TLoU game and have played it 7-8 times over the past few years.

Really had such high hopes for this game, but of all the stories that COULD have been told, this was not the one to present to us. This game would be ranking a solid 9-10 overall if the narrative was a continuation in some way of Joel and Ellie's story. For example, maybe Ellie gets a second chance to be the saviour of mankind and Joel has to help her and redeem himself. Maybe Tommy and Dina get kidnapped and Joel and Ellie have to save them. Heck, ANYTHING else would have been better than this shallow, hot mess of a story.

When first introduced to the Abby character, all I could think about was how beefy she looked. Seriously, why did she have to look so masculine? As a female gamer who has been playing since 1988, I could hardly bear to look at her physically. All I could think was that she looked like an East German steroid-taking discus thrower from the old days. Those meaty arms and flat chest of hers were really unpleasant to look at for 10+ hours. I enjoy playing female characters such as Lara Croft and Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn), who can be absolutely bad-ass without looking like they want to arm wrestle you into the ground.

Whilst there were definitely a number of shining spots in both narratives, a lot of the Abby story felt like a total slog to get through. And seriously, how many boring, long cut scenes do you think we can watch of Abby, especially when nobody cares??? Honestly, it felt like torture and I just wanted to be done with her side of the story. In fact, I've never wanted to put down a controller more than during this game and was thrilled that I could turn on "Invisible When Prone" in the accessibility menu so that I could get through the Abby section faster.

Also, for me, this game has no replay value. I have absolutely zero desire to sit through the whole thing again, which is in total contrast to the first game where I played through again almost immediately after finishing it.

So, definitely not up to the standard expected in terms of story and for sure I will never pre-order and pay full price for another Naughty Dog game again.

Lastly, WTF was with that thing in the hospital basement??? That just annoyed the heck out of me, even with turning the difficulty right down. I think that was put in there just to irritate everyone even more.

For me, the tlou 2 is a good game, one of the best in terms of graphics and gameplay, but in history it was ruined by adding several unnecessary details and with a rather forced start to the story, killing Joel at the beginning without any reason (spoiler).
in the end it did not seem good to me because it is very complicated to understand it and taking 2 fingers off elli does not seem to me the best option unless they give us a choice if we want to kill aby or not

The gameplay and graphics was god tier...i think its the only reason that kept me playing . I think if everything in this game stayed the same , but they rearranged the scenes so not half the game was flashbacks , it would be better. I'm obviously upset they killed joel...especially in the first hour of the game,. When it happened, I stopped playing for a couple days. Anyways .if your going to kill off the favorite character in a terrible, dark, way..we shouldn't have to play as the killer for 10+ hours, and on top of it...not even get our revenge at the end of the game because Abby lives. Very sad to see how this game turned out .seeing the joel and ellie flashback missions really showed the games potential. Still try to think positive because #1 is my favorite game of all time..but its hard to after #2. Anyways giving it 5/10 because its not a unplayable game...just dissapointed Expand

What they told to us before release? - vertical gameplay, a lot of variations to going through level. And what we see? Only one location in a Seattle at the beginning and all time after it’s a line gameplay again in 2020!
Also of course the story: kill the main character at the beginning of the game and try to explain it by the gaming for some boring and empty inside character ( Abby) It’s just a little part of my disappointing in this game and I hope third part won’t be ever development with this leader of studio.

The gameplay way enjoyable, I liked the stealth mechanics as it gives you more options to go for.
As for the story it was lacking in places, I felt joels death was a bit rushed and happened too early in the game. Playing the story as abby got boring as I felt it was way too long.
All the hate for the transphobia that people are hating the game for, 1) it was for once scene that character was deadnamed. 2) the people that were deadnaming the character are part of a **** cult. 3) it's a **** game!!!
The ending I felt was done wrong, The game should have finished up at the house, ellie going to california wasn't necessery. Leaving it how it did didn't sit right with me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to begin. Last of us part 2 undid what the first one accomplished: good story, excellent character development, a father/daughter relationship between Joel and Ellie. Keep in mind I did see the leaks and I knew how the story would go but it's totally different seeing it play out. Some of thing I will say people will not agree with but keep in mind this is just a game and not real life. As soon as abby killed Joel I was mad and filled with rage. Soon as I started my journey for revenge you have no idea how bad I wanted to make abby suffer. Soon as we do confront abby as ellie that's where things went downhill for me. We play as abby for what felt like forever. Just for the heck of it I just let her fall off a ledge or let the infected have their way with her. I even let ellie kill her multiple times. Yes, you have to fight ellie as abby and that is not cool. Like many of you out there I didnt care about abby or why she killed Joel. Soon as she killed Joel I wanted her dead. Going back to ellie, there are times where she becomes dark like when she killed nora. You have no idea how satisfying that was for me. Or when she killed mel. Ellie only defended herself and she had no idea mel was pregnant but that didnt phase me. Her fault for attacking ellie in the first place. I felt no guilt in killing dogs who were trying to kill me. Kill or be killed. For the most part this game is my element. However it was all ruined in the final part. You get to fight abby as ellie and she let her go. I killed all these people with no hesitation and I can't kill the one person that started this journey of mine. Story should have ended when you saw them at the farm. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to start. I guess to give my opinion on the whole "killing characters" controversy. Having Joel die is fine, honestly. The writers clearly wanted to have that as the main driving point of the story and for the spotlight to be on Ellie rather than Joel.

The story-telling as a whole was poorly structured. I liked the flashbacks of moments that have relevance in character development. Although I feel like there should have been more mystery. Maybe not open with the previous game's main character dying. Like I said, it's fine he did, but maybe give the players a moment to get back into the game, the story, the franchise and reconnect with the characters. That way, the death would have made much more impact on the audience.

Okay. Onto the worst part - Abby. Just... why? Why the **** do we play as the main antagonist? Half the game was spent playing as her and I hated every single moment of it. Remove her parts, and you've got a pretty good (but still not great) game.

Keeping on the Abby subject but also going back to the story's structure, if you want us to care about a newly introduced character, maybe develop their character BEFORE you show their bad side? It's clear they wanted us to care about her otherwise we wouldn't have seen so much of her personal relationships, such as that with Owen.

If anything, they should have made us play Abby's parts either before Ellie's parts, or play each character day by day. Playing as Abby and having radio calls about an event you later play through as Ellie would have been really interesting. Also, don't leave us on a ****ing cliffhanger with Abby finding Ellie, Dina, Tommy and Jesse at the theater to then play the second half of the game. When that happened I was so ****ing frustrated and just wanted to know what happens. If they brought both character's story-lines to that point simultaneously - that would've been great. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of players stopped playing when it got to Abby's half of the game. The only thing driving me through her parts was wanting to know what happens, I didn't give a **** what was actually happening DURING Abby's parts.

The gameplay overall was fine. It kept to the tried and true gameplay of the first game. I appreciated the fact they didn't try to change the formula to something completely unrecognisable from the first game.

The graphics and environments were incredible.

Overall, fine game. Enjoyable for half of it, emotional ending (though not as emotional as the ending of the first). I feel like they could have done a much better job with the story they had if they just structured it a bit better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the game themes are more heavily entangled with moving on then just saying revenge is bad. honestly, I find it tragic that this premise can be forgotten due to this game's poor storytelling method of constantly trying to make the player feeling bad for murdering all these random people on behalf of Jole by attempting to dehumanize Ellie by showing her murderous rampage and humanize Abby by showing how amazing her life was before Joel and by reminding the player she had has hopes, dreams and fears .every thing just seems so forced upon you that you just want to deny it all but in reality, Joel is a terrible person he know that and doesn't regret it and he's past was bound to catch up with him Ellie was clearly hurting her self more than help by going through this journey and Abby did the right thing not by letting elie live but by moving on but the story invokes the wrong emotions. In essence, it's contradictory itself the story is always telling you revenge is bad but never showing the charter them selfs acknowledging this Abby loss every one but never once stops to ask Ellie why and same goes for Ellie.a a lot of people are upset not because this game is bad but because we expect it to be better after watching the ending to this game it was so unsatisfying and underwhelming that all I really wanted to do now is move on but I couldn't do so without understanding hopeful other people after watching this video will be able to see what this game was trying to say but didn't and will move on. However, playing this game was mentally hard for me so that I wanted to drop it at certain episodes. In my opinion, be it a brand new stand-alone game, so many people and me as well would adore this game for its realistic toughness, and complexity of the story. But as it is not one, it will always lose to the first TLOU that rather than demonstrating the gamers painful and exhausting path of revenge and bloodshed, taught us that even in the brutal world of zombies and hungry, desperate, dangerous people a person who lost everything still can find a light can still care and fight for something or someone. This game does not deserve 0-s a lot of people put here. But I would not call it an enjoyable game either. I finished it and I will not return to THOU2 ever again.
