If you are looking for a rational or realistic review, i recommend staying away from google reviews and these reviews. The majority of the reviews are 0/10 review bomb spam, or reviews that are clearly homophobic and hateful. On top of that, many scores rated as negative (4 and under) with descriptions depicting what would qualify as a mixed score (5-7), which shows a lack of understanding of how to rate products. Fallout 76, a buggy and incomplete game only scored .5 lower than this game on user reviews, which again shows that this games user reviews are not to be trusted. Anyone reading who thinks the troll or review bombs are helpful, just remember, the developers are going to ignore and pass over reviews with the intent to troll, so if you think that review bombing will actually sway the developers to your side, it won't. In all, it is very embarrassing that the community reacts with review bombing and hateful reviews, especially when 21,000 people claim to have played and been competent enough to review a game released 24 hours ago. Metacritic is also intended for people looking to buy a game with little knowledge surrounding the game before purchase, so mainly causal players, so political rant reviews and troll reviews serve no use or purpose to people looking to actually buy the game, as most people care very little about the "politics" of a games story. Metacrtitc should look to add a purchase verification feature or play time counter or playtime cap in order to stop review bombs from ever happening again. Expand

So this is a very divisive game, and it's really odd to see that reviews are strongly polarized. If that was the objective, it worked, but it's sad that a game developer would do this to the fanbase. As if people don't have enough stuff in real life to fight about.

Alright, let's go to the merits first.
I enjoyed the cenary, the quality and detail of the worldbuilding was incredible and the physics were fun, even if a bit buggy.
The mechanics were improved on, but still had much of what the first game had, just some additions to give it some flavor, I guess. The sneak mechanic I didn't enjoy, because it's unrealistic that you can always kill an enemy just by grabbing it from behind. Maybe if it had a chance to fail? That would have made it less powerful and more balanced.
The story was unfulfilling and left a sour taste on the mouth of many gamers, me included. For a game that was loved for it's story, such a failure creates most of the divide that we are seeing here in the User Reviews. But let's not put blame on the entire group that developed the game, only on the writers. The fact that you aren't given a choice about your morals makes the moral idea behind the game fall flat. Either give a choice or don't try to guilt trip your players!

    Graphics: 10/10
    Gameplay: 7/10
Story: 3/10 (gave some points because of the flashbacks)

The game is focused on the story (giant amount of cutscenes), so I'm calculating my final score based on the following equation:
    Final Score = [Story + (Gameplay + Graphics)/2]/2
    Final Score = 5.75
    Rounded to...
    Final Score = 6

For a simple message, I have not seen anything as silly as killing the most important character in the series. Ellie should have gotten her revenge. Joel died unnecessarily. The man's only problem was to save Ellie. The episode we play with Abby is a waste of time. If part 3 comes, my only wish is to write a story about Ellie's revenge on Abby brutally. I have nothing to say to the technical side of the game, it is a great game. Expand

The gameplay was fantastic but the story was completely **** Only the flashbacks were good and having Abby be the main character for 60% of the game was a /STUPID/ stupid idea. Especially killing joel off 20 seconds into the game to NOT EVEN HAVE ELLIE AVENGE HIM

The first was amazing and will always be. I was expecting so much more from this part, and the plot holes. Dont get me started on the **** santa barbara whole scene. Shouldn’t even be in the game. Makes ZERO sense

Ellie shouldnt be on the cover of the mf game and they intentionally hid abby from the trailers and misled the trailers so fools would buy the game, and fools we were.

Just finished this... Graphics are great, game play fantastic and all this is fun. Its a Shame they didn't wait for PS5. Ashley Johnson & Troy Bakers performance was great as was most of the cast.

But lets get this out the way Neil Druckman said that there was never a sequel planned for LOUS, but there is one choice at the end that is forced on you by the game You Have to Kill The Doctor to save Ellie...... Let that sink in and remember it.

However the games story is a by the book revenge story uroboros (the snake that eats itself).. the game force feeds the player this treatment. As a result the game has lost its appeal due to its treatment of its characters. Abby's dad is the doctor at the end of LOU 1 and this chapter of the game has even less of an ending than LOU 1. So its obvious that there will be a LOU 3.

I was vested in the return of Joel & Ellie and the game takes a giant dump on Joel and leaves Ellie's character wanting. Totally took me out of emersion seeing Neil Druckmann on a trading card and then as an actual character who spits on Joels body. (don't fool yourself, that's Druckmann). How meta & edgy.

Abby's character was two dimensional and needed better writing. If her story is to be continued in last of us 3 it needs a lot of work. Her story kind of starts where Joel was at the start of the LOU 1. She has lost someone important and has done bad things going on from there. She meets someone that turns her life around (Liv) just like Joel. Helping Liv turns abbys path away from destruction to building something good for herself. I feel there was two stories and the melding got lost in the process of making several shock moments that are supposed to tie the stories together. The attempt to make the player bond with abby was off the mark.. it needed more work and perhaps putting it at the front of the game rather than the middle would have worked better.

I loved Dina & Liv they need more story time perhaps in LOU 3 or DLC. The game mechanics where very similar to that in last of us with a slight improvement. Many Players left wrecked and wanting justice for Joel #Justice for Joel. Ending was very wanting and left me as a player feeling very let down... I think that the marketing lies also added to this feeling, As if I was tricked into buying it almost. believing that after a seven year wait I as getting more of Joel & Ellie. I waited for a planned sequel that was just filler for the LOU 3 (its coming, believe me, naughty Dog Only has the LOU & crash bandicoot to work with after Druckmann disposed of Amy Hemming and ended her creation Uncharted).

I have spoken with other players and their reaction to Joel was the same (many female). The sex scene with abby was forced and badly done and left the player feeling soiled in a way, there was not the connection you have with Ellie & Dina in their scenes .

I Give this a 5/10 Because of the story mess, you had seven years and you copied & pasted the walking dead plots. do better Naughty dog. l would wait & Buy this game when the price drops #Juticeforjoel

One finial thought which was never brought up... the Fireflies were a faction in the LOU world. If Joel had agreed to let them create a vaccine (if it was a 100% assured (which it wasn't) a lot of the letters / docs found indicated they were not as competent as they made out. Would they have given the vaccine to everyone or used it as a tool to control people / against other factions??

Some effort seems to have been made to improve upon some of the old features but this seems lacking. (Adding a jump button doesn’t really count as groundbreaking) 1 point.

The character acting and the Mocap work is first rate and second to none and this alone scores 2 points from me.

Where this game falls apart is in its horrible story, I fell in love with Ellie and Joel from the first game and was promised a continuation of their story, what I got was two characters who acted completely differently to the Ellie and Joel I knew, and other characters I just didn’t care about and abbey infuriated me! Watching her kill Joel Then forcing me to play as her for hours! I quit the game in disgust and refused to play on.

I have since watched the story through YouTube and it seems I made the right call. It doesn’t get any better, only worse.

Thankfully Australian law meant I could refund my game so I Didn’t lose any cash over this.

My recommendation is if you want to see the story watch it on YouTube but if you still really want to play this game wait 6 months and pick It up on sale in the discount bin. That’s were it’s headed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We assume that on a technical level it is truly spectacular. If you have to look at the story, it is really horrendous. The behavior of Joel and his brother at the beginning of the game is created specifically to allow the plot to take the turn it should, but in reality Joel and Tommy would never have acted like this. Do you remember, for example, how in the first chapter Joel sees a man asking for help in the middle of the street and instead of stopping he accelerates and runs over him? That is Joel's real behavior not to trust anyone, not to help anyone. they tried in every way during the game to empathize with abby but I never empathized with her, all I felt was hate that I hoped to be able to alleviate by taking my revenge by playing as Ally (which did not happen). To break the vicious circle of hate Ally decides to save Abby's life and let her go on her way. Just the core of the actions that Ally performs do not make sense, because having spared Abby's life does not imply having ended the circle of hate, in fact, the daughter or a friend of a npc randomly killed during the game may simply appear looking for Ellie to kill her since she killed her father / friend, as they decided to do on tlou2. If at the beginning of the game I was angry about Joel's death but hoping to have a nice revege story at the end of the game I realized that I was depressed and even more angry. Expand

Gameplay: I admit I got hooked with the guitar. Stealth is just a good experience, stabbing people on the back just gives another level of joy. Cause you can never do that in real life unless you're psychotic. The only bad thing, I can say for gameplay, the AI's are a little bit terrible, just a little bit.

Storytelling: Nuh, I don't wanna talk about it. It depends on the gamer's perspective, whether they like the story or not. I won't force to your throat that I felt betrayed by this outing. It's your own appreciation of the game that matters. Whether you enjoyed it or not, it's yours to decide not mine.

    Conclusion:
It's a fun game, but not a great game, in my perspective. It's overrated, in my opinion, and it's also over hated due to the expectation from the last game. It's playable and you can get a lot of good time from this game.

The first two hours of the game are boring just walking and talking with a girl who basically is the girlfriend of ellie. I didn't feel any strong conection between not like joels. Right off the bat the gameplay is great, feels nice and brutal. Now the story on the other hand is hard to say. The main issue with the story is Abby. Very cut and dry. They should have put the flashback scenes at the very beginning of the game so the player can feel and understand her. The way they handled Abby was very poor and I never felt like I actually cared about her or her friends, I just wanted them dead for what they did. I can 100% understand why some people will absolutely hate this game. The game could have been a absolute masterpiece if they had the scenes in chronological order to build up emotions for the characters but they don't which is the worst thing. The game isn't bad it just makes a huge mistake with the story. I loved and cared for Dina and Jesse but everyone on Abby's side I didn't give a **** about them. It just makes me sad because The first game is a absolute masterpiece to play it just hurts knowing the mistakes this game makes. They should have put **** in order. Thanks for reading. Expand

Problems like the unaceptable plotholes and completely unbelievable decisions and actions made by characters throughout the game just so the writers could force the story they created forward was one of my biggest problems with this game. There were way better ways to send the message that you wanted to send, but for some reason, after 7 years of development, this was the best you came up with. ND showed a complete lack of respect for our beloved characters. They also disrespected the fans with false expectations and misleading and fake marketing strategies, making us think the game is something that it really isn't. They thought that making us play half of the game on a side-quest just to make us like and care for unlikeable and boring characters was a good idea. Let me tell you, I hated every second. No matter how much you try to make said characters look like good people, they ain't. The ending of the game also feels very unsatisfying, not only for the choices the characters make, but also because the entire message you tried to send was very contradictory when you look at the end each character had.

Not all about this game is bad tho. Just like in the first game, the music is insanely good and fitting. The graphics are also insane, next gen stuff. Animations, acting (for what the writers intended), the overall art-side of the game is really good, it really brings the entire TLOU universe to life, even more than it did in the first game. There are also very enjoyable moments every now and then, mostly in the first half of the game, which makes you wonder what this game could've been if the writers actually cared.

Overall, I rate this game a 6/10. What made TLOU a great game, my favorite game of all time, was its story, and this game doesn't even come close to it. Production wise, this game really good, which makes it even more sad for me, because this could've been such an incredible experience, but, at the end of the day. it was just so unsatisfying.

I loved the difficulty. I played on survivor and it is challenging but rewarding. survivor difficulty is in my opinion the best way to play the game. I also loved the gameplay (fights are long, brutal, and satisfying), the sound, the soundtrack (especially the new use of synths during the fight scenarios), and the graphics. However, at the end of the day this game is story focused. For me, the story feels wrong and I wasn't sure how to feel about it until I finished the game. I respect Naughty Dog for what they tried to achieve and even though you feel some of the moments in the end I don't think they were able to do the same with the main characters. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

In pratica ciò che ci vuole far dire il gioco è "Revenge Bad, Ellie Bad." e "Revenge Good, Abby Good", e ciò è errato.

In conclusione.

Neil Druckmann if you wanted to make a good story on how to break the cycle of violence for this sequel, you should have seen the Pain arc of Naruto Shippuden bro, I believe more that Naruto forgave Nagato for killing Jiraiya after he told him his own pain, than Ellie with Abby, GRAPICHS: 10/10, HISTORY: 5/10...... yes, that's my review

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all hello videogames fans, i hope u get the time to read my review and not pull the trigger to quickly, also sorry if my english is bad (not a native speaker). Secondly I would like to talk about how much saddens me seeing in every place the comments for both lovers of the game and people that dislike it, being targeted as swj a**hole for ones and as homophobic, transphobic, misogynist...for others, is really sad that a video game has been reduced to this arguments for defending and at the same time criticize it. I am one that without any leaks played the game and personally wanted to like it but couldnt bring myself to it. First of all voice acting (im my country at least), graphics, ambientation... is perfect and I think that nobody can doubt that, it makes the game beautifull and lively. But not everything that shines is gold, at least that was the case for me. Yeah, I'm going to talk about the story, in this regard the first part of the game was "good" but lest not go ahead of ourselves and start from the beggining, the dead of someone so loved and controversial at the same time by everybody in this universe. I must say, that I don't consider Joel a hero, for me was a morally grey character that had done a lot of bad things, and that with the ending of the first game u could say perfectly that he was a selfish, lets say "father". Indeed he was, but I think that a great number people in that situation would have done the same thing, and I think, that because of that so many people could relate to him in some way. Now to the last of us part 2, so many people knew that joel was going to die, but that way of dying... I know what ND tries to do, killing someon so loved in such a brutal way just to cause hate in the people and give more sense to the revenge plot point but...why cause so much hate for that action and then put abby as the "morally white" character in the history? For me personally, it doesnt have any sense. I've read people saying, "If u think that is because u haven't understand the game, this a dark history with grey characters" I buy you the is a dark history (the sadness, emptiness and hate that I've felt is there to prove it) but the approach that they take is not based in grey moral characters, u have a dark one, Ellie in her quest for revenge, and a good/light one with Abby trying really hard that players like her, when is really dificult, again in a subjective and personal way at least, to do it. Abby is represented as an animal, child helper (that scene in the campment with the kids, trying to make everyone look good, and what a coincidence, being also in the scene that guy that spits on joel) trying to give u the impression that "hey, they are also a good person". As I was saying I couldn't feel that much empathy. This was also caused by, what I consider a bad choice of revenge for Abby. Don't get my wrong, I understand that Abby wants to revenge his father, that medic that u kill in the first game, that for everyone until this game wasn't more than a random npc. In that regard the same history could have been applyed to any of the fireflies memebers relatives, friends, etc. and I consider that is not well developed, they try to put everything togehther in this game (Abby's and Dad's past, which was someone that was a generic npc, and at the same time feel sorry for her despite how bad the game started with Abby). About Ellie part, I must say that it was alright, I know that the seek of revenge can make the best person become the worst against your enemies, but she was really rude to people that was close to her. And the ending for me is the worst part, the only person that lose everything is Ellie (yeah, I know, revenge is bad) but the case is, people try to defend this as "Abby also lose everything", I consider that she is the only of the 2 that, yeah Ellie and company kills all of her friends, but she has the posibility of a future with Leve, taking care of her and having an new "meaning" in life making Ellie at my eyes the only one that in the end lose everything and doesnt even have the option to avenge Joel after having lost herself through that revenge travel, and that really leaves me hearthbroken, sad and empty giving me a really bad taste and making that all the good points that the game has perish with it.
Now a few things that I didnt wrote and I would like to put them over here:
-Didn't talk about gameplay, is good (IA sometimes a bit easy in hardest difficulty, being able to stealth in front of enemys, maybe bugged I don't know) but pretty much the same as in the first one, liked the improvments with the silencer, weapon customization and crafting and the hand to hand combat.
    - Fireflies and trying to make you sympatethic for them, when they are pretty much the same as Joel, if not even more grey than he was, kidnapping people for the shake of finding the cure.
I hope that if u buy the game you enjoy it, sadly I couldn't bring myself to like it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game yesterday. Damn, what a **** it was at the end.
    But first of all:

    + Graphics
    + Environmentdesign
    + Sounddesign
    +/- Gameplay

Those are the good parts of Tlou2. It genuinly is fun, for me at least, to be in this beautifully crafted world. I had my fair share of fun scavanging trough it. And I liked the violent nature of it.

BUT: This game has the worst writing in a tripple A videogame, of this size, I've seen in a long time. And I mean it.

The structure is all over the place, but just not there, where it needs to be.
Most of the story is told in flashbacks. Understandable. Simply because there is nothing there to tell in this game besides Ellie taking out all of Abbys friends one after another. And then you play the game from Abbys perspective, where this game spends in it's last 10+ hours to force you to see how good of a person Abby as a human beeing is and let's you go from scene to scene estabishing that. ALL THE WAY. It's so bad, that you can actually tell in every scene "aah, we safe the zebra now, because Naughty Dog wants us to like Abby." or "ooh, we are beeing nice to strangers now, because ND wants to establish Abby as the good guy now." You can see right trough it and this is not how those tricks in storytelling work. Especially not when it's like hammered in your head constantly.

As for all the characters in the game: You don't care about them!
Simply because you can't get a grip of them. They change their mindset anytime, they behave stupid and predictable. And they all just die after a couple of minutes of screentime without having anything meaningful to say.
And the best part is: Some time after their death you get even more flashbacks to show how sad all of this is.

This game and it's message are not profound. It is stupid and/or meaningless and is handled not in the best fashion.

If this is the new "standard" for videogames, like a lot of critics of tlou2 say, then I go back to comicbooks.

Poucos momentos do jogo você realmente começa a conhecer Ellie.

one of the many problems about the story was the way they wrote Joel as well as the rest of the game. I feel like Joel was meant to be more trusting of people after he lived 4 years in the settlement, maybe learning to be more trusting. but sadly naughty dog failed to depict this in the game. another factor could have been that since Joel saved Abby and they survived a horde together he could have trusted her since she didn't backstab him at the time but to me, that has its own flaws since Abby is a smart character and new she needed Joel and Tommy to help her survive before she killed Joel and the old Joel would have maybe picked up on this. overall to me the game was a good game but the story was flawed but also had its moments such as the flashbacks, particularly the one where Joel and Ellie are in the space shuttle as well a when they go searching for guitar strings. I also like parts of the ending particularly the scene between Ellie and Joel as well as the final scene before the credits. To me the acting was amazing and the graphics and overall gameplay ( while clunky at times) were top-notch and one of the best parts of the game. The game isn't bad and I certainly think it doesn't deserve as much hate as it gets but it could have been better and hopefully naughty dog learns from this. so far this is the first or maybe 2nd failure that I've encountered from the naughty dog. I still think they are a great game company and that Neil Druckman is a good director but sadly this time around he shot and missed but that shouldn't mean we should **** on him. the game while not as good as the first was still good to me. if it were a stand-alone game I feel it would have done much better but since it was a sequel to a beloved game it is getting much more hate than it deserves in my opinion. Overall the game while decent has its flaws in storytelling and hopefully, ND learns from this mistake.

Gameplay, graphics and the character animation is absolutely fantastic, one of the best for the ps4 however the story has some many holes in it and I feel was very disrespectful to the fans of Joel and Ellie, why would anyone want to play as abby after she has tortured and murdered Joel, and especially for as long as you do play as abby, also another kick in the teeth for fans is the blatant lies that they did by showing scenes with an older Joel to make you think he is the game for a long time to then find out it is all flashbacks, it's a big shame as this game with a even a couple changes in the story would have been phenomenal. Let me start off by saying that I am a HUGE fan of the original game. I have Ellie's tattoo on my own forearm and TLOU2 was my most anticipated game of the decade. I am absolutely in love with TLOU.

First of all, TLOU2 is NOT a 0/10, nor is it a 10/10. The truth is somewhere in the middle. It is no question, this game does not even compare to the first game - a true 10/10, in my opinion. First, the good: Naughty Dog achieved absolutely incredible visuals with this game. It is beautiful. They should also be given credit for polishing the original's gameplay, it is very fun. At the very least, before I get into what makes this game disappointing, I will say that I give them credit for at least trying something risky, the only problem is that the execution and experience was poor.

So what did Naughty Dog do poorly? This game made many mistakes. The first and largest is that you are forced to play as a new character that is extremely unlikable and this lasts for approximately half of the game's length. You are switched to control this character during the game's climax, which kills the momentum of the story. Most players that I know tried to rush through this slow paced "sequence" in order to get back to Ellie's gameplay, only to find that they must play around 10-12 hours with this new unlikeable character in order to get back to the game's climax. THIS right here is what kills the entire experience of this game. Everyone that I know in my personal life that played this game, 4 people, found the second half of the game to be absolutely dreadful and not worth it. I absolutely hated this experience too. I stomached this sequence just go see the ending (obligated to see it through out of my love for the first game), but I can say, without spoiling anything, that I don't personally believe that the experience was worth it. I give this game a 6 ONLY because the first half of this game was genuinely thrilling and an absolute blast, despite questionable narrative choices, which I was able to get over-- at first. There are other issues in the second half and near-end such as constant geographical and chronological shifts, the game is all over the place, and it never really finds its footing. The pacing is a bizarre mess. They also sacrifice smart storytelling for embarrassingly convenient plot advancements. For example, otherwise smart characters make simple and unbelievable mistakes such as dropping literal maps that lead their enemies directly to their base. There are many examples, even late term pregnant women decide that they are fit for militaristic combat, putting them in places where they obviously should not be. These things are unrealistic and just dumb, to be honest. Characters are constantly making out-of-character decisions. No matter how badly I want to like this game, I can't fool or lie to myself, and I have to admit that it just is not that good of a game. I cannot say that I recommend this game, and that breaks my heart to say, after a 7 year wait. But nothing will make the first game any less brilliant.

This is one of the stupidest narratives I've ever encountered in gaming and the way they pull it off makes it even dumber. The game thinks its smart and hypocrites might think it is.(Like its totally cool to kill hundreds of ppl in this game in some of the goriest ways imaginable because this game is against violence.) But in reality it is a tribute to violence, a wolf in sheeps clothing.

The graphics, animation, sound and acting is amazing though. So it's like Speed Racer or Tron:Legacy. A visually stunning product without any merit to its core.

But you can certainly enjoy the game if you dont give a **** about in game characters and the stupid narrative pushed on you and you embrace your inner psycho.

Ok, so there are aspects of the game I enjoyed very much, however the bad outweighs the good. In a narrative driven game like this it should live up to expectations and be the strongest aspect, it is not. This game feels like it was structured out of order and as such can be felt while playing the game. Let me make things clear, the Joel's death early is not why I dislike this game, it's the execution of his death. I take issue with Neil wanting to make a divisive game instead of making one that makes you question things on a compelling level. What annoys me the most is that if the game was rearranged and some of the content was cut it could've been a truly great game. Abby is a character who I genuinely liked aspects of, and if she had her own installment I'd be glad to play it. Unfortunately that isn't the case here, we spend half the game tracking down and killing countless people just to get to Abby, then we're forced to play as her from her perspective, but at this point I don't care for her as a character or her friends we've killed as Ellie. Abby gets some of the best/interesting moments in the game, but I just didn't care. Now to talk about the ending it was terrible. Not because it didn't end on a semi high note like the last game, not because it wasn't a happy ending. It was terrible because it made all your efforts as playing as Ellie COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS. All of those people she killed just to get to Abby only for her to let her go in the end? Most would retort that she only did that because she realized "revenge is wrong" I'd agree with that assessment if Ellie hadn't literately murdered like hundreds of people. I'm not saying killing Abby would make for a better ending, but by the end I felt that the story didn't say anything interesting and absolutely butchered the past characters. Sure Ellie selfishly tried to get revenge again and in the process lost everything, but is that outcome compelling or make you reflect and ponder on the game as a whole? No it doesn't. Before I wrap up I'll quickly touch on the flashback scenes, for Ellie and and Abby they were easily the best written scenes of the entire game, which hearkens back to my point about the game feeling out of order. They failed at making me care for the new characters, failed at creating a great narrative like the last game, and failed at making an interesting and thought provoking ending. On it's own merit it fails and as a sequel it fails. This game just ends up feeling like misery porn with the bleakest ending yet. I recommend NOT playing this game and I for one won't be playing TLOU3. 6/10

It's been six days since I finished playing The Last of Us Part II and it took some time to really think about it.

I want to start with the things I liked about this game. First of all, I obviously want to point out how good the graphics and animations are - I was blown away by how detailed every location was and how you could feel every emotion the characters felt in all of the cutscenes. I like how fluid all the movements seem and the (outer) character design is gorgeous.

I am also a fan of the gameplay - I liked that the areas were bigger in this game and that you were able to explore everything kind of on your own by just strolling through the streets. The way how they kept the gameplay of the first game on one hand, and how they expanded it on the other hand is a good choice as well. To be able to move forward by crawling and also shooting and healing yourself from this position is a nicce addition to the rather "stiff" gameplay of part I. The only thing I am not a 100% okay with considering the gameplay and the surroundings is, that it was simply too much for me. Personally, I was annoyed with how much you can look around and how much you can find, but that's just my own preference I guess.

Now I'm coming to the stuff I had the most problems with. I just could not really emphasize with Abby as a character. I can only imagine what the intentions of the creators were - to see that everyone is capable of doing horrible things, but that this doesn't necessarily make you a bad person - the thing is, though, that although Joel did terrible things aswell, I was much more willing to "forgive" him for that. Seeing Joel die is not my main problem (again, it's just my preference that I would have loved to see Joels and Ellies relationship evolve even more in Part II), it's just the way it is dealt with and how I am forced to play as Abby for more than half of the game. I was very angry at first, but that feeling vanished the more I played Abby. Instead, I became numb. I simply didn't care what happened to her, which is even worse than being angry the whole time. I just wanted to play as Ellie. I felt that the player was forced to feel sympathy for Abby and failed to do so. I would have been okay to dig into Abby's story for two hours or so, but more than 10? As much as I tried to enjoy the experience and to collect all of the stuff etc., I got sadder and sadder and it wasn't an enjoyable experience for me.

And that ending! Ellie has lost everything - honestly, I would even be happier if Abby and died together in their last fight! As much as I loved the gameplay etc, I simply can not overlook the story of a story based game. It wasn't the experience I waited and hoped for the last 7 years.

This game genuinely has parts of the story that I enjoyed, but I feel goes too far in delivering its themes and messages to me. I don't mind the fact that Joel being murdered due to the consequences of his actions in a previous game and then being forced to play as the murderer to see a different perspective, but the way it happened and the order of events didn't work with me. I also found the ending boss fight with Abby and Ellie to be wholly unnecessary and gratuitous in its efforts to hammer in its theme of forgiveness. Expand

    Positives:
    Gorgeous graphics
    Beautiful world design
    At times compelling story
    Fun gameplay

    Negatives:
    Story is a complete mess
    Filler story parts

All in all a very big let down from Naughty Dog, especially after the amazing Last of Us and Uncharted 4.

For the purpose of no spoilers won't go in details, but in the second half I had hard time caring for the story there because of the events in the first half.

The other main issue for me was the ending. I understand the message they want us to get there and that is fine. BUT I think with this game and the way it plays - the player deserves a choice at the end and different ending for it. After all we are different people and we react differently to the events in the game. The choice how to end it should be ours at least once. We were robbed of that in the first game but it didn't matter, because it was fitting for the way the story was told there. Here would've had better impact due to the separation of the game into two big chuncks.

That being said, the game was by no means terrible. I believe anyone who rates it extremely low or extremely high is not doing the game justice with their review. If a game has amazing graphics, a great game-play style, but a lackluster story, that game is NOT a 1 star game. It's absolutely fair to criticize where one feels is necessary but not giving credit where credit is due and following the "game is bad" group-think is just outright simpleminded and childish. Expand

The original Last of Us is a journey across America starring two characters who are brought closer together through the traumatic experiences they go through together. part 2 on the other hand, restricts players in a single location for 6 chapters causing the story to feel dead and repetitive.

This game is an ambitious experience that challenges the fans of the first game, but doesn’t deliver the same strengths in interactive storytelling as we have come to expect from the best known Sony first party studio.

Naughty Dog created a story that is intentionally one that audiences wouldn’t have expected. There are a wide range of experiences in this game that invoke Feelings of hate, anger, sadness and nostalgia. This is a roller coaster experience that isn’t solely a continuation of Joel and Ellie’s relationship as we knew it to be. Instead, Part II is an exploration of the impact of violence. Each character in this world has suffered loss and the player is forced to understand that repetitively, through many side characters presented in this game. there are moments in this game that will reward all players but if you’re strictly attached to the Joel and Ellie father-daughter relationship this game will not meet expectations. The best advice I can give to players is dive into this game with an open mind, trust that the 25 + hour long story will be met with solid conclusion.

Overall, this game is a brave and beautiful exploration of humanity that finally comes together in the last few hours of playing. however, it falls short in its pacing and storytelling. The first game is not only a great game but a great piece of media to entertain a wide range of audiences globally. Part II is a good game from a technical standpoint but its narrative doesn’t quite resonate the same way as it’s predecessor.
to end on a positive, this is easily the best looking game currently available on PS4 and it will be discussed for years to come.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extremely disappointing.

Graphically is a great game, it's a miracle that a PS4 can run this. With that said, that's the only outperforming part of the game.

Let's go to the music area now. The music is not memorable at all, there is no one single song that I will remember years from now (today I can still hear the music of the first part in my mind).

The gameplay is good, there is pretty little innovation, but it works. Sometimes it is boring, especially if you encounter a group of scars or wolves, which in the middle of the game you will like: "Oh, god, here go again with this crap".

Puzzles? This game doesn't know what that is. I'll tell you the way it works: "Oh, the door is closed, what a surprise. Is there a container I can use for climbing? No. Okay, I guess I'll go through this whole in the building instead" (literally those two are the 90% of the options you have when a door is closed).

Narrative. There is no one single character here that deserves to be remembered (aside from the ones of the previous game and maybe Lev, that chinese boy who was a scar). There are lots of plot holes, lots of them. The death of Joel is absolutely stupid, I didn't catch any love for Abby, literally zero, even though the narrative makes a tremendous effort for the player to catch it, but it's just badly written and executed.

Definetly, would have been better for the saga if this game was never realeased.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From a technical perspective this game is a masterpiece. From combat to movement game is in a great shape. Environment is gorgeous, animations are fluid and impactful when it comes to combat. You can see how much effort developers put into this game by simply checking even such small thing as weapons upgrading. When upgrading a weapon your character will actually detach part that is being upgraded and will either replace it with new one or visually change current one, and all of this will be properly animated. When it comes to story — developer’s tried to show both sides of it, I actually liked it, but it seems like because we have two main characters from both sides too many retarded moves are made by them just to keep each other alive.

I finished this game on hardest difficulty available and now I will try to explain what I liked and disliked.

    What I don’t like:
    1. Retarded AI. Sometimes it is enough to run behind a corner for enemies to lose your track. 2. Arenas becomes boring after several hours of gameplay. After several hours in game you will notice that gameplay follows the same formula — you will be put in small arena, enemies are patrolling it, and exit will be blocked with “hold triangle to open this door” thing, which basically means you have to kill all of them, because opening this door will make noise and take time, which will attract enemies and they will not let you do this unless all are dead. 3. Ammo limitation. Because ammo is limited in this game you’ll have to count every shot, and also developers won’t let you pick more than 12 bullets for rifles, 16 for pistols and around 10 for shotguns. Why the **** this is a thing ? 4. Weapons variety is extremely limited.
    5. Pregnancy. Oh boy, why every pregnant women in this game have to go to frontline ?
    6. I don’t wanna beat up Ellie
    7. Abby kills Joel, Ellie kills Abby’s friends, now they are trying to kill each other. This revenge circle man.
    8. 2 boss fights, both the same, you even have to kill the same creature. The only difference is that one you kill as Ellie, second one as Abby.

    What I liked:
    1. Visuals. Obviously.
    2. Environment
    3. Combat. Fluid and impactful animations, just what you need.
    4. Exploring is actually fun and rewarding.
    5. Cut-scenes and face animations even during combat will actually let you understand what character feels right now. Even in small talks facial animation of your character will let you understand how he feels about this topic. Just awesome.

when abby kills joel you are shocked and in my case I was speechless for a few seconds in disbelief, almost a tear fell it was a hasty death but correct by the way they kill him, as a player of the first I felt the elly's revenge and he was elly during the game why he wanted the same thing he wanted revenge throughout the game you enjoy it has its flaws but they are trifles you enjoy the death of each wolf and halfway through the game when it only remains to kill abby discovers them (in one In my opinion, a little absurd way, why does Elly forget the map in the last place where she killed, so to speak, an objective of revenge and Abby finds everything indicated where they have gone and where they are but my question is who the hell does she put where she lives in a map with a giant circle) after discovering them kill jesse and there increases your desire for revenge. You go to play with abby but throughout the whole stretch of the game you play the only thing I enjoyed was seeing the disasters and deaths what we have caused in the game when we were playing with elly and making abby suffer and seeing the ways how she dies for me not his story interests me what I want is to kill you why you have killed my father (Joel) and my friend (jesse) and at one point he shoots abby at Tommy (leaves him lame and blind) but the worst thing that you fight with abby against elly (a one of the things that I enjoy the most is how elly killed abby when he played) abby wins and spares elly's life you keep on wanting revenge but they don't give it to you you're pissed off as a player but you say to be frustrated but it's over but they don't make a ellipsis of a couple of months elly appears living with his girlfriend on a farm comes tommy tells him where this abby they give you the hope of a revenge what are you going to fulfill the initiation to abby they capture a group and have her crucified on the beach Elly saves them fight in e he walk elly loses a couple of fingers on the way with the fight with abby but he spares elly abby's life after that elly returns to the farm his girlfriend has not left her and he starts playing the guitar elly but he can't because he A few fingers are missing what is one of the things that Joel taught him and he loses it to me which has shown me that the venzanga works for some and nothing for others.

Graphics were amazing, and gameplay was awesome - if not a little repetitive to the end with some encounters. I loved the first game and have played it multiple times; enjoying the dynamic between Joel and Ellie and looking forward to part 2 for years - the story was what made the first game amazing. i felt the story was what really let part 2 down. I got behind it for the first half and the flashbacks of joel and ellie, but really did not enjoy playing the second half. it almost feels like they did too good a job in the first game that after seeing what abby did, i just did not care for her side or empathise towards her at all which is what the writers really had to achieve in order for the player to like the story. it didn't help that overall i thought she was a dislikable person. I feel to achieve a goal that they aimed for you have to have a fair bit of hubris to even think to attempt it, which was a big risk in itself /an amazing character and writing - and overall abby as a character and her story really did not do it for me. With Ellie i spent the first half exploring the world and taking my time, whilst i groaned audibly when i realised id be grinding through abby and her friends story line for half the game, just so i could get back to the story i really cared about - Ellie, dina and Tommy. i literally rushed my way through with Abby just to get back to where the story switched and cheered when half her friends were killed off. I also feel like the final 'epilogue' set after the initial ending was probably not needed. Especially to have Ellie give up on so many good things and make the final decision she made - it made little sense after going on a genocide across America and felt like a waste of time/unsatisfying to me. Guess i may be a little bit more old testament then some. By the end i was just exhausted. 6/10 Expand

Random other factions are forced into the story without any real development that end up being pointless other than just pushing the narrative. By the end of the game I no longer had any real emotional ties to any of the characters involved. This game is essentially like playing a TWD version of the last episode of GOT.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 was an amazing game visually. It’s an amazing game at creating suspense and anxiety. When talking about it I’ve always said it’s not really that fun, but very engaging and stressful which Is fun to some people like myself. The problem for me with the last of us 2, was that it never really made me happy, which is the main reason I play story games. Games like Rdr2, Gow, or the original tlou made me very attached to the characters. In all of those games there are iconic and great moments that makes me feel like those characters feel. Real emotions. In tlou2, the only time I was happy was during the flashbacks with Joel. I could truly care less about abby. Seeing Joel alive was really the only thing. I really like Tommy as well and wish he was in the story more than he is. I can’t find myself to relate with almost any of the characters. As for Joel’s death, I hated it. I was very angry, and I think that’s what they wanted for sure. But Joel didn’t deserve to go out like that. He should’ve gone out defending Ellie from abby or something. Something like Arthur Morgan giving his life to save john marston. If you are really going to kill off a beloved character you have to do it in a good way. The beginning of the game is literally 2 lesbians smoking pot, and then killing Joel. I don’t think most of the people who bought the game care. As for a lot of people complaining about sjw stuff, yes it is in the game. It was annoying to me, but I’m more indifferent than anything. If it was a straight scene I could care less as well. I just want to play a fun and engaging game. Because of these factors like not relating to characters, just wishing the story was completely different, not really being happy at all while playing the game, I can’t rate it very high. This game was fantastic if you don’t care about story. But it’s a linear game (for the most part) and story is what matters. For me it’s a 6.5 out of 10. But I’m still mad about Joel’s death so I’m rounding it down. Expand

This is the strong point of TLOU2, and I can see why one might even go as far as to say it is the key feature of the game.
The level of detail is high, the environment feels very realized (for this kind of lineair experience) and it very much deserves the praise. However, as you go through the game you will notice more and more flaws, mainly in the form of the environment that does not make sense. I did not really felt the environment to be repetitive though.
The same can be said for animations, very good, but you'll notice flaws as the game goes on. But even considering those flaws, still great visuals.
Audio is not the greatest focus here as I think it was in the original. While certain audio cues certainly did enhance the experiences, I think this could be a bit better in terms of impact.

    Gameplay - 7/10 - Good
If you have played the original TLOU you know what to expect. I think it is fine.
I did not like the dodge mechanic. It is very strict, and the animations during combat show their repetitiveness very early on.
Gunplay is okay, but the sway makes it very difficult to make headshots - which is fine I suppose. You can modify your weapon to help you with this.
I did like the customization in the game. One aspect I would like to see improved is ammo capacity, by e.g. craft an extra ammo pouch for a few extra rounds as I felt many times I had to pass on ammo when I found it, because the game tells me I cannot carry more.
Stealth, which is what I mainly did, is good. You have more options now compared to the original game (like hiding in grass).
Weapons and crafting - as Ellie I feel you have several options in how you could handle an encounter if stealth doesn't work. It is expanded on compared to the original, and I did like the new items. Further in the game something changes, and I could not help but feel my options being reduced. I am not sure if this was the intent of the developer.

    Narrative/story - 3/10 - Bad
I loved it as much as I hated it. I won't go into detail, as this would require spoilers.
At the end of the first half, I wanted more of that. When the second half began, I was contemplating myself if I would continue. Never before did my opinion of a game change so fast. I chose to finish it but a thought of dislike for the game came up often.
In the first half it is somewhat like the original, likeable characters and here and there genuine good dialoge and events. These made me feel for the characters. Due to a certain event though some things are inconsequential, so I was not sure why the developer chose that structure. That could be better.
It did not help that in the second half, when some events happen, I did not feel anything for it. Not the characters, not the hardship they experience(d), etc.
When the credits rolled, I was not feeling anything. The second half really did hurt the whole narrative experience for me.
In the end, I hoped for much more than I was given from a narrative perspective. Because of how the events played out in terms of structure and inconsequential events, I feel this is worse than just a poor narrative, which is why I think this is a 3/10.

    Overall
6/10 - As said before I loved it as much as I hated it. Considering everything, this is a great game with a bad narrative. So if you like TLOU for it's narrative and dialogue/characters, I think chances are high you will leave this game with disappointment. So, as someone who loved TLOU, I find it difficult to recommend it.
If you like the gameplay and environment of the original and did not really care for the story/characters, then TLOU2 might be an excellent game for you.
If you are new to TLOU2, and you like a harsh post apocalyptic world, you might like this but do consider if the narrative is important for you. I would recommend to play the original TLOU first before considering the sequel.

The developper said this would be a divisive game. I really think the developpers underestimated the fanbase on this, in a bad way. I cannot understand how the decisions they made would be the best for the game or for the franchise.

Thank you for taking you're time to read this one opinion.

I’m a big admirer of this franchise, I’m a little disappointed by the plot that was waiting for another outcome, giving the new character of "Abby" more prominence than "Ellie", you really get tired of not wanting to know anything about this character and you don’t care at all, I always had the illusion of playing with Joel again but this didn’t happen, it is very easy to criticize and not take into account the sacrifice that it takes to achieve a delivery like this and in the same way I enjoyed it but as the first one never compares anymore Expand

In my case, there are a lot of things that I absolutely agree with the critics but at the same time, I don't. Many say that the ending is horrible, and I get why they would say it and in some way, I agree with them. But also, by looking at the full story you realize that it is at the same time a very good ending. That's what I find most interesting. A lot of events and mayor spoilers that piss everyone off can be really good and ingenious and absolutely bad at the same time. In my case, when I finished the game I didn't even know if I liked it or not. It was so confusing and it led to lots of mixed opinions in my head that I had no "only thought" about it.

Technically it is a masterpiece. The graphics are mindblowing and the gameplay is on point. The combat is probably the most fun I had ever had and it all blends together nicely. The acting is award-winning, as well as the soundtrack by Santaolalla and all the sound-making in general. The environments, as all of Naughty Dog's games, are just breathtaking. The bad thing that I and lots of people found about this game is the story. I personally loved TLOU and its narrative, as it became one of the games that most impacted me and has definitively changed my way of seeing things. I have completed it 3 times, the last one in the most difficult setting. That is why I wanted TLOU 2 to be a continuation of Ellie's and Joel's story because I wanted to be back at that world again. The problem for me is that it doesn't really happen, and half or more of the game is filled with new characters with different stories in different places. Some people may like this and its why I said that this game is an expert in leaving different opinions that are all equally valid. For me, I wanted a story based on Joel and Ellie again, but maybe others wanted a different narrative with different characters, which I respect the same way I respect my likings.

In general, I don't think at all the game deserves the hate it got at its release, because it is a really good game. And I respect the fact that they risked a lot to make something different and not just go to the safe option and make a game that everyone will like so they can get guaranteed success. They really tried to make something different and not just give the player what he wants and that's something all of us should consider before leaving a negative review.

In conclusion, I think it is a good game and it is not something you will regret buying, although you will have to keep in mind the fact that there may be aspects or parts of the game which you might not like.

I didn't want a sequel for two of my favorites characters in games, just to be forced to play as someone else who I don't like.
I think the tragic part is that after playing this game, I kind of wish Naughty Dog had just left this story alone. I gave it a 7 because the amount of work that went into this is huge and credit has to be given to the developers. But unfortunately I think that the story was quite a big misstep which is a real shame.
To the people at Naughty Dog, if you read this. Please, if you aren't absolutely positive that you can nail the third game, and give the characters the respect that they deserve, don't make it.

The shambler is really cool with his smoke shooting and the stalkers are creepy as hell. Scared the **** out of time the first time I was rotating the camera and saw it and then quickly went back and it was gone. The human -enemies are also very good. Their ai is one of the best I’ve seen. They work together and communicate. They feel like a real group with their call outs and the way they all have names. -exploration is much better is this game also. The areas are bigger and feel way more open. There are a ton of cool things you can miss completely if you don’t explore. Cons- the story. While for the most part I enjoyed it there are 2 parts which I did not like. The big one near the beginning with the character we all came to love. I’m not mad it happened as I expected for a while it was to happen. I just don’t think it was executed in the right way. It was just to convenient. Served up perfectly on a platter and handed over. It seems to unlikely that he would be the one to be right there at that exact second to be a hero and then lead to then lead to the group no questions asked while they are in their territory. The second part I did not like was the ending. It just makes the whole game, every thing that happened and every thing you lost seem completely pointless. You have no issue doing what you do and to who the entire game and then suddenly at the end you do? I think it would of been much better if you were given the choice of weather or not to do it.

The graphics of the game are probably the best on PS4, Captivating music and atmosphere great attention to details (mostly in the graphic part) Overall a solid game to play.

BUT NOW, was it the game i was waiting for 7 years? HELL NO, was it the game any of the fans were expecting for? HELL NO you can call me biased blind or whatever but after i finished PART 2 i went straight back to replay the FIRST PART and oh my was it a different experience, YES the gameplay itself
feels more clunkier than PART 2, YES the graphics (animations included) are not as good as PART 2 but
    everything else? SO MUCH BETTER.

Everybody knows the first game story and the relationship between Ellie and Joel and how they built it,
What i really enjoyed about the game after playing PART 2 is the inbetween, The small little parts, Ellie telling jokes to Joel, Trying to whistle throughout the game, finding comic books and listening to the little dialog when you find them, Ellie's reaction when Joel kills an enemy and much more,, Those little details what made the game 10/10 for me . They did try to give us that with Abby and Lev but yeah it didn't work for me because i couldn't care less about Abby.

TLOU2 story was all over the place and not what the fans of the first game wanted.
If it was a standalone game i would rate it 8/10 but because it's a sequel with a story that no one wanted
    i would rate it 5/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alright, so i just finished the game, but let me start from when i started the game. i thought, "hm why are people hating this so much?", then Joel died, and in a not very cool way. I though that sucks, but, i also saw why they did it like that. They wanted to take the Hero off of his pedestal, and destroyed him, very literally. I thought it made sense, they want the audience to feel the same as Ellie. It made me want revenge just like it made Ellie want revenge, i personally thought that was fantastic. Then while playing as Ellie i loved the graphics, i enjoyed the game play, i liked the sneaking, and i liked the suspenseful moments. They could have worked on a lot of the person to person interactions, to me a lot of it seemed awkward and through a lot of the flashbacks i kept seeing a weaker Joel, a Joel who cowered i fear of Ellie at all times. He was meek whenever Abby was around. I disliked that, in the second game, and some flashbacks that went back to before they had the bust up, he could quip back at her and wasn't passive. I also didn't like having to play as the enemy... it didn't humanize them to me, it made me hate them more, i hated playing with Abby, Owen etc. I see what they wanted to do from a narrative perspective, they wanted to show that the enemy inst so different from the character we love, which is fine, but i didn't like it. I like that we saw JJ, Dina and Ellie live happily in the house, but i hate that Ellie couldn't let it go for Dina, and lastly that Dina was gone when Ellie came back, more on that later. When Ellie then leaves i do not like that we have to save Abby to then fight her, to then let her leave again. I wanted to kill Abby, we traveled far to kill Abby, so let me **** kill her, that mercy **** sucked, the little flashback to Joel that makes her think he wouldn't like this is dumb, she was having PTSD about seeing Joel die and now she grows a conscience out of no where? Screw that i want Abby to drown. When we get back Dina and JJ are gone, everything is gone, Ellie stuff is packed into one room, and we then play the guitar, only to learn she cant, because Abby bit two fingers off Ellie in the fight. Then we have a flashback to Joel and Ellie sorta reconciling after their feud, which was good because a lot of the flashback implied a lot of tension, but the last flashback showed the still loved each other and wanted to reconcile. But what i HATE, absolutely despise, is that we didn't get to see Dina and JJ again, they built up the living together part and the leaving scene was so dramatic, i wanted to see them make up and walk together into Jackson as the gates close. Or at least have it as a post credit scene. Its a fine game, i had fun, but the thing i hate the most, is not killing Abby, and not seeing Dina again.

To who ever has read all of that, thank you for listening to my opinion, and have a nice day.

First the game is great and fun to play, I was happy to retrieve a lots of mechanism from the first game. The infiltration system works well and there is a serious improvement on AI (your companion can be spotted by the enemies, even though they get sometimes in your way).
The graphics are great but what is really impressive is the tangibility of the environment and the animations and facial expressions. I especially loved exploring all the areas and feeling that humidity of Seattle. The facial expressions in cut-scenes or in-game are really on point and I don’t expect to see a game having that level of details for a long time. When you handle enemies, watching their expression is uncanny. The global atmosphere and universe is really well done and I was hooked during the entire game. However, there are some pacing issues and after the credits you can’t remember every confrontations because there are plenty, maybe too much. At some point the game starts to feel quite repetitive even though there are always a jump scare, or a character being tortured, mutilated or shot at some point, to galvanize the pace of the journey.
The game is one of the most violent I have ever seen. Some scenes are quite shocking and will haunt you forever. However, gore and violence sometimes seems to be an easy shortcut to get rid of characters and tricky situations that would have actually been interesting to see more elaborated. The game is very dramatic and depressing and will leave you emotionally exhausted at the end.

I was however greatly disappointed by the characters development in general. The game never managed to make me empathize with the new characters introduced. At one point you can feel like the writers wants you to like one character in particular, so they put everything they can to make you like her, but it felt forced. I wanted to feel and understand what Naughty Dogs wanted me to feel and understand but I couldn’t, because they did such a good job of pissing the player in the first hours of the game that you can’t get attached no matter what you will share with this character. I was also disappointed by the lack of interactions between the protagonists during exploration which helps building the characters and getting attached to them. So there was a lots of awkward silences which could have been used to build the characters and make them more likable, human.
So how can I rate a game that is so good and so well polished, but from which I feel emotionally excluded.

The Last of us part II, is a good game. Yet I understand the division in the player base, because it depends on everyone sensibility and capability to get over his own resentment. I can’t deny it’s unprecedented. But was it really intentional though? I globally liked the experience and would recommend to play it, however, on a pure writing and character building aspect, that's a big disappointment.
