This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved a lot about this game. The graphics, The terrain and sound design. The gameplay was rather enjoyable but a bit repetitive. I liked and hated the story. I think everyone knew even without seeing the leak that Joel would die. I don't dislike that he died, but the way he died felt so quick and dry. It felt as if they were just trying to kill him super quick and it felt unjust. I'd rather see him dying a heroic death than the one I was given. But enough about Joel's death. The ending is something i didn't hate nor like. You as the player have either seen Abby's dead friends or killed the rest of them. So why not kill Abby? Because Other people (like Lev) might come for you? You've gone this far just to track her down and kill her, and now you give up because you're scared? And then my BIGGEST hate for this game is playing as Abby Whilst fighting Ellie. Just why? I see a lot of people comparing it to playing as Micah after killing Arthur and comparing Abby to Micah. I see why some people see it like that. With the first statement I completely agree. For all the players that played the first game, they (probably) felt connected to Joel (Same as with Arthur) But to then play as their Killer is something most people would hate. Now for the second statement. I disagree completely. Micah was meant to be hated, Abby was meant to be sympathized with. As a "Final Verdict" I definitely recommend this game to players loving a sad, emotional story. There are definitely some good moral things in there. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing 48 hours, two playthroughs and gaining the platinum trophy I am finally ready to let out my opinion of this conserverial sequel.

Before I get into the negative I will like to start with what I loved about the game.

    1. Ellies half of the game had the most interesting part of the story and best cutscenes. When she gets to bounce off side characters like Dina ( who was one of my favorite side characters) it really showed a great side of Ellie.

    2. Abbys gameplay was the most fun since it was more of my play style. While Ellie sneaks around Abby is an army of one. With a flamethrower, hunting rifle and pipe bombs nothing can stop her. She can literally just punch an infected to death and it is brutal.

    3. The one thing everyone praises this game for even if you just hated it is the graphics. This game is beyond beautiful. The music is always perfect for what's happening.

Now let's get into what I disliked

    1. This game just dragged on and on. It tricked me I believe like three times where I thought I was close to the end oh no I still have 10 hours left alright okay here is the ending nope. Not going to lie got pretty frustrated and just wanted to finish it already. In fact where Ellie and Dina are in that awesome farm house then Tommy comes in telling her where abby was last seen . Honestly I would of been okay with the last scene Ellie going off into the night leaving Dina sad and feeling alone. Then bam alright setting up for the next game.

    2. The actual ending was just anti climatic. Ellie travels two states fights of this evil rattlers frees Abby from dying on the beach lets her grab a boat about to let them go and then goes no can't let you go. Okay has this big fight about to drown her and then was like nah go. Okay go backs to the farmhouse and no duh Dina is gone.

All in all it is not better than the first one and doesn't add much to mechanics/gameplay. I dont think its the worst game this year and I understand where they were going with the whole revenge thing it just didn't quite land.

А last of us 2 это не об этом. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’d give this game a 5. It is graphically the most beautiful game for the PS4. The gameplay is semi-fun. At least it is when you are exploring Seattle and the stealth is engaging but there lies the problem with the game. It is a story driven game. Its not open world and you have to abide by what the devs want for you. It’s a story driven game that tears down everything it built in the first game. And that’s not what makes the story bad. The story is so one note. None of the characters are likeable. A revenge plot should at least have likeable characters. And this game just doesn’t. Ellie is a bitter mess. Jesse has no personality. Abby’s love interest has no personality. Abby is just unlikeable. I actually get her killing Joel. But they should have saved that for midway through the game and not done it in such a “ooooo let’s shock the gamer by going walking dead upside Joel’s head”. It’s not creative. Idk who wrote the story as druckmans stories in the last have been fantastic but if it was him. Ouch. He created one of the worst stories in video game history. If he could’ve just made a more creative story this could be one of the best games of all time. But he didn’t. It’s like he didn’t even try. Sale this game and buy Tsushima. The critics know nothing. I'll preface by saying I was never a huge fan of the original Last if US game. It was an 8/10 for me mainly because while it's seeing felt fresh, the story beats felt too similar to other pieces of media that came out before it especially Telltale's The Walking Dead. It was a decent game but not really for me. So having said that I went into Last of Us Pt. 2 with a lower attachment to the original cast. I liked Joel as a protagonist but he was definitely a flawed individual and his selfish decision at the end influenced by past trauma of losing his daughter made him far more relatable as a character.
The last of Us Pt. 2 started us out with familiar characters but I couldn't bring myself to like them. Ellie was extremely unlikable with few enjoyable or redeeming features. I actually found myself engaging with tge new cast, and especially the other playable character significantly more though that story line had absolutely horrible pacing. When everything was coming together at the end the game went from pretty good to me, to very disappointing. Combine that with how bleak and joyless the journey was and this is not a game I'll ever play again. I don't think it's the worst game ever but it's definitely not one I'd really recommend personally.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 has stunning visuals. I spent multiple hours taking screenshots and pausing to take in the environment. The gameplay was ok. Melee combat is brutal and filled with gore however some of Ellie’s take downs felt inefficient. Many times it felt like if Ellie was a couple seconds quicker you wouldn’t have been seen by a enemy. Gunplay is the same as the previous game where it’s a bit of rng. It’s ok. The ai in the game was all over the place. Sometimes they would flak or surround you. Other times they would lose sight even though they clearly see you walking around a wall to hide. Also the scavenging and puzzles to open up safes was refreshing at first but by act 2 it wore out. The story was filled with coincidence after coincidence. It’s storytelling shinned in some parts, (mainly flashback) but it was overall it was worst than the previous game. For example the way Ellie sang take on me just matched the tone of the apocalyptic world. It gave out a theme of trying to make the most of you have before its gone. Other times the story failed in its character building. A little over half way through the game Jesse show up by out of no where. (Complete Coincidence) The game only gives about half of the second act and half of the third to get to know him. As as was staring to like him he is killed off. I didn’t react at all cause there was no time to connect to him. Many of the games characters are like this. Many times I just wanted to move on and get to the gameplay. Expand

I was so hyped for this game and I was ignoring all the bad reviews and all the talk about how this game was terrible.
Then I played it and just finished it. To be honest it is a masterpiece in its own unique niche way....
I just don't agree with the storytelling approach they took..

At the beginning naughty dog makes you angry that Joel died, and I accepted Joel's death.
And I pushed forward as hard as I could to see it through to get to Abby, to face her, and to ideally take revenge.
But then you made me play as Abby way too long... maybe there could have been an Abby Ellie back and forth... I just really thought we played as Abby way too long. And honestly, multiple times when Abby died by my mistakes during gameplay, I was like that's good, game over you can stay dead Abby.

Anyway, the game does end well... But the whole journey was not enjoyable to be honest because all I wanted to do was rush through abby as fast as possible and I really didn't take time to enjoy any of the gameplay with Abby...

    So yea...

I'll keep the game I won't sell it like everyone else probably will.
Honestly, I hope the Ellie and Abby story is over
I don't want to play as Ellie or Abby ever again

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us II is a game that I wanted to enjoy, but was not able to because I feel it is just a game that tries too hard and doesn't deliver what the fans wanted. My score is an overall 6/10, average at best, because I cannot deny it is without a doubt the most graphically incredible game for its generation of gaming. But the story is what holds it back from getting a higher score.

The story falls short for me because of various reasons. The most glaring ones being that the game just re-hashes the same revenge plot three times over. It starts off with Abby and co going after Joel for revenge, which she gets. Then Ellie goes after Abby, which doesn't work out, but then after trying to essentially give up on it, she has a break down and goes after Abby again for revenge. Only, she never gets it. The game ends with what can only be seen as Ellie, I assume, forgiving Abbie, or reaching some kind of revelation that her revenge would mean nothing, so she just doesn't take it. Which is redundant as it makes the whole game utterly pointless and worthless in terms of the players effort.

Other issues are the way you're forced to play as Abby, a character who, from what I can tell, a good chunk of the player base just did not like to play as. When you're forced to play as a character you don't enjoy or like, it kills your drive to want to see the game through, and this happened with me, but I pushed on because I had paid for the game and figured I may as well get my money's worth from it as well as what trophies I could.

The worst part for me was where you were forced to play as Abby and fight against Ellie. This was not good for me because Ellie was really the only character I wound up liking throughout the game. At least a little. Even characters from the past game who return in Part II that I liked before, I didn't like in this game. Plus there's just wasted other characters. Ones who you spend so little time getting to know because they wind up dying, it makes their appearance utterly pointless, which is a shame for the effort that's gone into this game.

The example I can give is when you're playing as Abby, and she returns to a home base, one of her friends unzips a body bag and she's horrified at who it is inside. But we don't hear the name being spoken. I can only assume, we, as the player, are already supposed to know, but I couldn't remember the name. I recognised the character as one I had seen before, but if there was a name, I just couldn't remember it, showing they had an insignificant impact for who they're meant to be.

This continued on for me in the fact that all other characters I just couldn't bring myself to like or care about. And the game soon showed a clear problem with trying to push these shock factors into your face way too many times. By the time the game got to the point where the pregnant lady is accidentally killed by Ellie, I just stopped caring for the game altogether. Over all, by the time I got to the end, I felt the game ended on a stupidly empty and unnecessarily mysterious note, as well as it just dragged on for a bit too long for how little worth while story there really was. And then there was the whole big thing with a transgender character being in the game. I am all for the support and inclusion of them in anything, from video games and movies, but in The Last of Us Part II, it didn't make sense. The character of Lev is shown to be intelligent, but what I fail to understand is why, in a world where there's a fungus turning people into flesh eating infections mutants as well as murderous bandits and cannibals in the word along with crazy cults that Lev is a part of, why would they worry about being what gender they feel they are over surviving? It just didn't make any sense for me. It was a very well done character, but felt very out of place for the world of the game.

As I said, the visuals are incredible, but the gameplay is just a spit shined version of the first game. Everything is similar, just nicer with a few new additions, like being able to go prone, shooting from being prone and the ability to dodge, counter attack, attack on the move and of course, jump, climb ropes and swing on them. That's pretty much it for the gameplay. The games A.I however is rather phenomenal and impressive. The fight sections were easily the best parts for me.

I remember seeing SkillUp's pre-release review on YouTube and thinking it couldn't be as bad as he said it was, but honestly, it really was.

For a game many waited around eight years for, what we expected was not even anywhere close to what was delivered. My trust in Neil Druckman has fallen significantly, and any excitement for future Naughty Dog games is now gone.

It's worth one play through for the combat, visuals and trophies, but after that, it's not worth a lot at all. I feel it wasn't even worth the £40 I paid for it.

A nice game, but falls short where it counts. The story. Again, 6/10. Average.

I mean it has some big problems, but it has very good things too. Some parts as Ellie or Abby aren't good, but some other parts were very very good. Joel's death was a bit usless, and yes the Game is a bit to long, but it still have some very good Features and parts so I think it is a fair 7/10 Expand

But, the game stay on the same note for the entire game making it enjoyable at first but boring with time. I am not a game critic so i will not try to explain everything. The biggest problem with the game is the characters, the story and the antagonist. It’s not the worst thing i have seen but a fan of the first game will hate every thing about it. Abby, the new character is the worst part of this game. I don’t know why we have to play as her but it’s bad. Basically, the game want to make us love the antagonist more, it doesn’t work. The other problem is the political agenda in this game. It’s cringy because it’s almost always a big red arrow screaming “ LOOK, WE HAVE DIVERSITY ! ”. It doesn’t feel natural at all, TLOU 1 was very good with it diversity. They were just survivors, not icons to represent one group that ND wanted to show. So yeah, i give it a 6, not terrible but very disappointing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, here we go. Before I go on with my personal opinion on the game I will say this “It would have been better if I never played TLOU Part II” Where to start….i will simply focus on where the game messed it up for me big time and not talk about how beautiful and how improved the combat mechanics are (they are not).. Naughty Dog simply developed this game for the past 7 years to totally annihilate, wipe out of existence all the empathy, character bounding and LOVE they built on the first game. All that sentiment and intricate relationship that grew in the first game for Ellie and Joel, they just decided that they had to kill it in this game and the worst part: “I think that was their goal”…..It is unthinkable, unimaginable in my precarious mind how Joel, a character that lived in both worlds, a character that since the very first scene on the first game was pray of mistrust when that guard killed his daughter and along the whole first game he is resentful of anyone he does not know, he thought Ellie all she knows in term of the current state of the humankind, not to trust no one NEVER…. And he blindly share all the information to Abby AFTER saving her life and walks right into a cheap ambush. (Oh yeah we will talk about this one later) A COMPLETE STRANGER who just showed up and ended up killing him…and to add insult to injury Naughty dog forces me be that weapon it forces me to be Abby for a good portion of the game…ME the one that has been trying to save them since the get go…. THIS IS HORRIBLE and right at that point in the game I felt I did not want to keep playing anymore. And all this just to be able to fuel the revenge plot that will follow in Ellie’s hands (that until the very end where she had a change of heart)….Abby…. I still don’t understand what was the goal there….relentless evil, pure and many, many times unsubstantiated evil just for the sake of again REVENGE. Not only they showed her as a robot after Joel literally saved her life she brutalize him with a gulf club. And still they try, yeah they try to humanize her by petting dogs and attempting to show she cares about her group, this is one of the worst character developments I have ever seen coming from one of the best teams (if not the best in the world) Abby’s actions are like taken from another universe, they make no sense most of the times and simply are unnecessary. And all this Naughty dog did it by putting you in her shoes, I was forced to harm the characters I loved or the people that they cared about. Time and again I felt like stopping the game and uninstall it, hated every time I had to be Abby not because what she was doing, but because what she was doing didn’t make lots of sense. And for all those justifying Abby’s actions , how am I supposed to feel right at the point where she did what she did I knew nothing of her, I had spent countless hrs. with Joel so no matter what you do after that point redemption is IMPOSSIBLE for Abby. And then when you go through all this suffering destroying what you built in the first game naughty dog DENIES you the ability to kill this despicable character Abby, and Ellie ends up sparing her life “”What the hell ND”””. So not only your whole game have been about REVENGE and senseless brutality but the moment where REVENGE actually makes sense you took it away from me….. I am Sad, I am Mad, I feel horrible Naughty Dog. I felt you had your story to tell and you intentionally carried on with it despite hurting your own work on the first game and most importantly, hurting us gamers as fan of your games and the universe you so graciously created for us. I regret having played the game….. I would like to forget, I would like to stay with that image of Ellie and Joel when they found Jackson. Expand

2 days after finishing this game I'm still unsure if I wish I'd avoided this or not. I both liked and despised this game. For anyone who deeply enjoyed the first game and thought it ended at a logical end point, I would highly advise you not to play this game.

The Last of Us 2 is dark, depressing and deeply upsetting, and goes out of it's way to take everything ...EVERYTHING... from characters you care dearly about. This is done with little/no care or respect for the characters; some huge events are rushed, others are not but the game delights in having you play through their suffering for too long. If you care about Joel/Ellie after playing the first one, you will not enjoy this game. It will stay with you long after the credits have rolled. In that respect, the director has likely achieved what they set out to do, and some kudos has to be given for making a story that - at least in parts - is impactful. The impact, as well as the graphics, sound and music (which are all top notch) are the reasons this score is as high as it is. However the cost of the events of it's story, the treatment of it's characters, and where they are left by the end is too great. The events of this game and the conclusion cast a shadow not only over the experience of this game, but over the first, making it also feel tarnished by the experience, knowing what events follow.

The first game was interspersed with poignant moments that shed light in it's darkness (such as the Giraffe scene), but these moments are all lacking from this game, save for 1 or 2 bittersweet flash-back scenes. Aside from it's treatment of the characters this is it's biggest downfall, in that it appears to have lost the soul of the first game.

While I've played the first game 3 times and enjoyed each play-through just as much, I will not be playing this game a second time. Once is enough, or possibly too much.

The gameplay is very good, they have upgraded the one presented in the first game and made coll addition, the actors really do a great job in the way they express the characters scenes and graphics of this game are top 3 of games that were released in the ps4 era. Those are the good things about the game.
But what is really sad is the writhing for this game. Joel's death was done in a stupid and lazy way, forced for the story to continue. Using the argument that he stayed in the community left him "less suspicious" is inconsistent, it is not because he spent 4 years in a community that made him "forget" with the outside world. He has experienced many things during 24 years of survival, and knows what human beings are like in the outside world. He would be just as suspicious as before, as he now patrols a community, so his instincts would be the same in the first game.
Another point was that everything was very convenient during the scene, because exactly at the moment when Abby will almost be killed by the infected, Joel saved her from that situation at the last minute, and he and Tommy went straight to meet her group, and being comfortable in their presence during the scene, besides Joel being in the middle of the room, surrounded.

The game was sold as an adventure by Joel and Ellie again, the trailers were even edited to think about it, and at no time did we see Abby in any of the trailers. the company knew that the public would not like to hear that the story would be about Ellie and Joel's murderer, Abby. We don't wait 7 years for that.
Even showing the background of Abby losing her father, to feel sympathy for the character, it did not convince most players, as well as me, because Abby is a psychopath, and here are examples of how the game shows her with her actions in her darkest moments:

1 - Shoot the knee of a man who saved her moments ago, using a golf club to beat and torture him for a considerable time, and kill him in front of a girl who is begging for his life.
2 - After discovering that Dinah is pregnant, she doesn't think twice before trying to cut her throat, just not committing the act because Lev prevented her.
3 - Cheating on her friend Mel (who was pregnant) having sex with Owen, and showing zero remorse.

Ellie, at similar times, shows much more humanization in her reactions:
1 - Upon hearing Nora offend Joel, she beats her in a brutal way (also to have information about Abby), and moments later, she is totally shaken after that event.
2 - After killing Mel and discovering she was pregnant, Ellie has a panic attack, falling to the ground and hyperventilating, showing herself completely traumatized and making it clear to the player that she would not have killed her if she had known this before.
3 - Ellie apologizes to Jesse about kissing Dinah, and the relationship begins without containing a betrayal.

There are a lot of plot holes in the game, such as Tommy letting the map in the floor so that, in the narrative, Abby would find it.

In the end, Part II had a great potential to be one of the best sequels of a game, but fails miserable in the story telling of such a beautiful story that was the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the gameplay and loved the graphics and the attention to detail in the environment; props to the developmental team for those.

The story though. The story left a lot to be desired, with inconsistencies, Battle of Winterfell level plot armor, and just some bad writing in general. I was okay with the twist and Joel's death at first, even though the false advertising is kind of infuriating. Ellie's 3 days in Seattle; I loved. I stayed away from the leaks and went into the game blind and throughout those 3 days I was thinking, hey, why do people not like this? It's great!

And then came the part which totally turned the game on it's head for me. The ~10 hours playing as Abby. The entire game depends on whether you like and sympathize with Abby or not, and I personally did not. I couldn't care less about her friends, and didn't even flinch on seeing them die one by one. So many WLF characters introduced, literally none of them resonated with me. I mean I don't even remember half of their names, that's how little I cared about them. Probably the only emotion I showed was doing a little celebratory cheer when Tommy shot Manny. That was nice.

As the game went on, my dislike for Abby increased. I mean it's hard to like someone who takes joy in torture (Joel, the captured Seraphites at the WLF compound she wanted a few moments with) and sleeps with their pregnant friend's boyfriend. Yeah, definitely not endearing. For others like me who didn't like her, the 10 hours playing as her would have been absolutely torturous. I considered dropping the game around halfway through them. No one wants to play that long with an MC they hate.

And then the ending. By the time it rolled around I was already extremely disappointed with and tired of the game, and it did nothing to change my emotions. Probably made my opinion of the game worse, if anything.

Looking back on it, I cannot be more disappointed with the game that Naughty Dog put out. As a standalone, sure, it'd be a great game. But as a sequel to The Last of Us? Pretty bad. If they were insistent on putting Abby's part of the story across, there would have been much better ways to go about it.

I was led to believe by the trailers to expect another story about 2 beloved characters and their relationship, in the end it was not.

The story strays even further away than the first game from the infected apocalypse setting.
Not that it was bad on the first game, in reality it was kinda refreshing.
Putting Ellie and Joel as centerpiece was what led me to love the game.

Where in this story, despite having some characters that appeared in the first game, they were just shells of their former selves.
That led to a depressing and uninspired turn of events, where the decisions taken by those characters were outright stupid and unrealistic, leading me to feel as the characters were forced to act that way to advance the story.

While playing, I haven't felt a connection to Ellie or Abby, especially the ending.
Why kill all those people just to get to Abby if you're not going to kill her?
You already turned yourself into a murderer, just finish it.

Gameplay-wise it was good, but it wasn't that ground breaking experience that I expected from a famous studio such Naughty Dog.
Throughout the game there were many occasions where I've faced animation bugs and gameplay bugs.

Graphics are great, one of the best that I saw on the PS4, but following the gameplay I've seen objects blinking in and out of existence, some texture bugs as well.

Overall it was a disappointing ending to a game that needed no sequel.

I meant to give this game a 7, but due to the massive changes on the promotional material to purposely mislead the public I'll give it a 6.

Being further disappointed by the way that prominent figures in the medium handles criticism, and I am not talking about the aggressive and offensive comments and/or reviews.

Where both sides dismiss any type of point of view that differs from their own, saying that they are bigoted, stupid, propaganda or saying that the critic lacks “insert anything to further prove their point of view”.

As Well as the passive aggressive humor, comments, actions and hypocrisy commonly shared by both sides of the argument.

I feel pushed to stand in a middle ground and give this 'GAME' a 5.

    That's it.

It is beautifully rendered, the level design is excellent, and the gameplay is about what one would expect from a ND game. We have certainly seen this combat system before, and it is as adequate as it ever was. Where it utterly fails is in the narrative and the character development. Trying to make Abby at all sympathetic is like putting lipstick on a pig, and making the player play as her for so much of the game following her brutal murder of Joel is insulting. Ultimately it is a preachy sermon on multiple hot button topics that I could have done without. I certainly don't need a game designer to lecture me about social tolerance and the futility of revenge in a game that requires one's characters to kill many scores of people. While I won't spoil it, the ending is without doubt one of the most insulting and intellectually dishonest things I have seen written into a video game. So the upshot is this. But if I do that, it would be downplaying it's very smooth and great gameplay. The gameplay and controls, like all other Sony's first part titles, while doesn't innovate, perfected the already perfected system. The movements are smooth, the combats is simple but very engaging. The graphics are with no flaws. But it's sad that the game marketed entirely by it's compelling story, failed in that regard. And it didn't just failed. It literally crashed and burned.

The game is a story game, a story that once was around the relationship of a man who lost his daughter and a girl with no one and the cure for the disease, the father and daughter situation was the best part of the first game, Joel and Ellie was the 2 points that hold the first game together, warming the hearts of those who played it, when the game turns around in a different perspective trying to teach us something that we know and we appreciate actually (the fact that we aren't a hero and we did bad stuff too) its just dumb, we know that and the game tries to over explain something with this new character, that we don't care. the story of the game had a bunch of flaws, poor writing and stupid plots, the game tried to do something they call showing us that hero is a matter of perspective, but they just betrayed us, and feeling betrayed is not good at all, this was a basically game of thrones season 8, nonsense, bad writing, 6/10 even should been lower, Devs WeirdChamp.

This game is Okay, the gameplay is good enough (yet it barely even innovates or does anything new compared to the last masterpiece that was TLOU1). The main problem here is the story...the game tries to be something new yet it stumbles and ends up looking like it was written by a very foolish person.
Joel in this game is not the wise person from the last, and makes a very foolish decision within the first 2 hours of the game; his character just did not remind me of the Joel from the first.

the second problem is that the game throws away the duo of Joel and Ellie - a duo we already loved, a, a flawed duo with issues. Now the developers have decided to make us play as yet another flawed character for no reason at all ( the villain: Abby). Why? people from the very start wanted JOEL. Not Abby or just Ellie. They wanted the duo from the first game!

Third and final point - this game tries to be too realistic and violent for its own good yet it just ends up being stupid and the game seems to forget its characters personalities and in the end the game actually ends up teaching us no lesson or moral at all. Its like the sole reason they have made this game is to show needless gore and tragic deaths. its forced pain. SPOILERS: It does not make sense why Ellie goes on a killing spree, whips one girl to death, kills another pregnant woman... to in the end, let the villain get away... that is just unbelievable and a waste of 30 hours. Killing those who aren't responsible and leaving the one who is? The game teaches us something IMMORAL.

TBH I have not played this game, but I don't need to XD - because the gameplay speaks for itself.

TLOU1 was special for a reason; although its story wasn't something innovative or original by any means - it NAILED, the character development, the lesson of surviving and determination, the storytelling, the balance between cut scene and game play. It did what had to be done PERFECTLY. TLOU2 will never be the game its predecessor was - and the first game in my eyes still remains as the KING.

A potentially unique and visceral story unfortunately executed slightly poorly with brave narrative choices falling short of their desired effect. Lots of subverting expectations and shocking imagery to raise the players heart rate and create despair. Unfortunately this method of storytelling while having an immediate and extreme reactionary affect on the audience will inevitably fail to move anyone in any meaningful or lasting way. Thus while there are some truly stunning moments it fails to achieve the lasting impression that part 1 did. While it is understood that part 2 is trying to achieve different things. The experience feels a little too unsentimental to the legacy of the first game and this feels intentional and disrespectful. Expand

In the technical aspect, the game is overwhelming: incredible graphics, excellent environmental design, God-tier animation, shot composition and overall scene direction, however the game is dragged out and over stays it's welcome, and the overall gameplay loop is mediocre at best, barely an upgrade from a game 7 years ago, hence feeling like the game belongs in the previous generation when it comes to being played instead of being watched. Beyond the technical aspects, the game's story pretty much deconstructs it's former narrative peak in character writing, and by the end of the game the story lead nowhere and pretty much undid every achievement part 1 managed to reach. This is the most disappointing aspect of part 2, and left a very bad taste in my mouth.

But this isn't one of those. It should be broken down into two categories: the story and the gameplay. I've played through it 3 times now. The first time was the full game - cutscenes included. And from start to finish the score fluctuated. But as the game went on, it just became drawn out and monotonous. When reaching certain climaxes, you revert back to what almost feels like an eternity ago. Which literally is 2 hours into the game. And it ruins the pacing of the game too much.

After playing through it initially, I wasn't sure I would be able to play it again. But luckily this game has skippable cutscenes. Which brings me to category two of how this game should be played. When you don't see the story and in a sense, it's just 1 long gameplay sequence, the pacing doesn't feel bothersome. The story that tries to force you to feel a certain way, can for the most part, be ignored if you choose the character(s) you're playing aren't part of any narrative. With that said, in the latter part of the game, I feel like the characters are boring and not as interesting as the ones you meet in the first half.. and at times, even come off as annoying. However, when you don't have to see their story entirely and can skip it, you experience a great game that is a solid 9/10, if you loved The Last of Us.

But that's unfortunately the problem. The story itself is just trying to tell you that you can't pick sides. You need to understand everything before you choose. It's like a sad attempt at begging. One half of the story is telling you this is why you're taking this journey. Then the second half tells you that this journey should not be taken. The writing is just bad and that's why a side must always be taken. Even if it isn't the right. Who knew Bungie's writing with Destiny would be better than a Naughty Dog game? At least they understand how satisfaction works in video games. After a 25 hour game that had its ups and downs, it needed a solid, fulfilling ending.. but unfortunately, it was just lifeless with no reward for your time spent. It tried to be deep, but deeply failed.

There were some pacing issues too, often I felt stuck in mud.

SIE, NG is on your corporate campus, you own it. I see three issues. First, what took so long to make this? Second, what happened to the quality? Third, your new games and marketing seem to all be in-line with the politics injected into this game. I think the answer is that unfortunately your HQ is now in the SF area where there is smug intolerant politics combined with entitlement ethics and contempt for past work. As such the characters in this game look and sound like a bar scene in SOMA San Francisco vs a time and place where Ellie and her peers are situated. I fear for PS5, I think it’s going to be rough road for SIE.

While playing this game I was hooked by the story, it is a well written story, with it moments that seem forced, I'm all for diversity in a game, as long as it's done well, and having Abbie to become the playable character in the se one half was a bad move, as her character wasn't the best written, and the way they ruined everything TLU1 established hurt me as a fan, having Joel die and then ellie but it just was too over the top and the sex scenes were not needed at all.

For the gameplay it's simple too simple with slight improvements from the first a game doesn't have to be complex in its gameplay but it has to be done well, and the simple controls get repetitive too quickly which just left me getting bored.

it's an average game with a good story its weakness is its gameplay and force of diversity which if done right could of been amazing

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are a few main reasons people review bomb this game and call it a "terrible and horribly written mess"

    1. Joel is the Main character you play as and sympathize with throughout most of the first game. He gets killed in the very first 2 hours of the second game by a woman named Abby, whose father was killed by his hands in the Hospital near the end of the first game.

2.The story makes little to no sense as Abby and Ellie make some very questionable life choices and by the end of the game both suffer and live a somewhat miserable life with no actual conclusion to the "revenge" plot.

3.LGBQT+ is something no one really wants to see in their favourite games but we have all of it here. The worst part of the game is that it's way to violent to the point it shows both a pregnant woman get killed off and have a 13 year old kid beaten up and hung up on a pole left to die with his best friend Abby.

    4. Abby right... No one likes Abby we can agree on that note. I had little to no sympathy towards her after she killed Joel. She got her revenge of course but the fact the game forces you to play as her nearly half of the game is a disgrace. Almost kills every likable character in the story and by end of the game she gets aways with everything just because Ellie wasn't strong enough to avenge her friends and Joel. I'm sorry but I learned no life lessons from this Naughty Dog.

Hope they make a DLC of some sorts otherwise this gets no actual positive feedback other than the fact that the game looks gorgeous and the gameplay itself is average at best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game could have been great, the visuals are amazing, the gamplay is ok and sadly that is where the praise ends, the Story is bad, the acting is wooden from Abby, Eli and Joel, everyone else is utterly forgettable.

I was bored playing through this game and was surprised when I had to kill the main characters from the first game, the set up was bad, the implementation was bad and the payoff never came and if this was a cinematic movie (which it felt like sometimes) I would have walked out and asked for my money back. I also found some really strange moments come up in the game like the inserting of modern western political views without context, I do not care about the bickering of westerners when I play my games and felt it was out of place in this game that made the characters unlikable.

All in all I would say the game is not worth buying simply due to the boring gameplay and the bad story, if you do buy this game and like it then that is fine, it is not for me though.

in the off chance that Naughty Dog does read this please try to remember that your audience is not just western baizuo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game and i have to say i have mixed feelings about it. First of i don´t wan´t to give a bad review because they do X or Y thing, or "this character" is male/female/dog, etc. So here comes...

Graphics: This is like God of War on the technical level, where they use 100% of the graphic power on the Ps4 or Ps4 Pro to the maximun, it´s looks gorgeous and the different places and little things like the snow, ice crack when you pass trhough it and that kind of things are top notch and we have to clap at naughty dog having and using the technology at best same with the characters models.

Animation: Another good hit, they really take time working on the animations to feel real in every kind of way, the backpack swinging when you are waking or running, taking out the machete out of the body and that feel it´s not so easy because of the flesh and bones.... nothing to say, just awesome on this part.

Sound: The sound it´s really good, sound immersive in this cold and desolated land with the clickers going around and the gun sounds outside and inside the buildings sound good and you can hear the difference between the guns

    Now on the other side.....

Story: It was a hit an miss, sadly in story driven games its the most important thing and sadly enough feels so forced from start to finish. And for that i would make an example of how new people playing would care more of Joel instead of how they killed him:

Imagine this: You play with Joel/Ellie for a bit scavenge things, they saw Abby's group and they fight each other because Joel said in the first game "never say your name and trust no one," and Ellie goes. Then Joel hear about they are gonna kill Ellie to make him suffer.
Then Joel kill a bunch of Abby's team and when he get there Abby is sitting on Ellie's back and pointing her with a gun on her head. Joel mad said "free her" and Abby's just laugh and said he is a murderer because he kill her dad and Ellie said "that's true" Joel said "I'm sorry it's true," and Abby's stand up to confront him meanwhile Ellie's is in shock because of the lie and Abby's start to get mad and they start fighting and in some point Abby shoot Joel and he in his last breath said, "I'm sorry Ellie, I lied to you because you are my only family."
Then Abby said "I finally get that **** look at Ellie and just go away." Now Ellie is sad/angry/confused because of this news and the dead of Joel while making his grave. Better script than the game don't you think?

And they decided to create 0 feelings towards Abby or trying to give more info why she wanted so bad to kill Joel in the entire game, meanwhile Ellie really doesn´t show how mad or shocked she is about the dead of Joel. Meanwhile Joel it´s not the character we know from the first game, he was always saying to Ellie that: "Never give your name and trust no one", instead he just said his name without a doubt in a couple of hours and like: "I´m ok *derp face*"

That´s a real turn off for any fan of this franchise because the characters from the first game are not in this sequel, and the whole idea of "revenge" it´s so cliché and predictable that lost the shock value from the first one.

Sadly Naughty Dog create an awesome game on the graphical side but horrible on the script side that for a game like this is the main core for your audience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 2013 Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann introduced us to the thrilling world of The Last of Us. An action-adventure game with some survival horror touches, one of the best stories ever told in games, incredible characters and immersive gameplay. After 7 years they give us The Last of Us Part 2, and they hoped that it would surpass, as most sequels, it's predecessor.

The Last of Us Part 2 preserves, and even improves, some elements of the original game, adding dynamics such as jumping, the use of ropes and a better enemy A.I. This can make anyone think that this new game will deliver to its expectations. However, this is only during the first hour and a half. If we evaluate this section of the game, we will find a very dynamic and organic game with one of the best opening scenes of this generation, even worthy of a prize for Baker and Johnson.

It was a very good game until new characters were included such as Abby, a member of one of the new factions, the WLF, who seeks vengeance against Joel as he killed her father in the first game. Here is where the game starts flopping, as the introduction of these new characters seems forced and inorganic. Naughty Dog's idea was to make us empathize with them, but their background story, dialogues and performances are so dull that makes it difficult to do it. In addition to this, Joel becomes nothing more than an NPC with short dialogues and scenes that, in spite of a marvelous performance by Troy Baker, feels disrespectful to the main character of the original game. Joel was not the only character that suffered in this game as his brother Tommy is shown as weak and doubtful.

After playing for some hours, it becomes inevitable to notice the lack of chemistry between Ellie, Abby and their corresponding partners such as Lev, Yara, Dina and Jesse. Their dialogues become repetitive, boring and even dumb. The environments are so big that one can think there will be puzzles like in the first game. However, the development team got rid of all the puzzles and some exploration that made the first game great, making part 2 more lineal and boring.

Then, we get to Seattle and find ourselves with improved environments, filled with so many enemies that it becomes inevitable to start shooting and killing to that extent that it becomes even gory and perturbing. Perhaps Druckmann's idea was to make us feel bad about killing and revenge, but this is only delivered in a couple scenes where Ellie kills some secondary characters, including a pregnant woman. Was it worth it? I would not say so.

As a game, The Last of Us Part 2 revolves around revenge, and how bad it is, as premise. However, the lack of depth in the development of some characters, and the story itself, makes it a total flop for Sony, and Naughty Dog, who gave us their worst game since Uncharted 3. I mean, as an independent game from the franchise it's good, but it is not for a the last of us game.

Finally, one has to praise the technical part of the game as it gives us the best graphics of this generation, and Gustavo Santaolalla's work in the music is perfect. Nevertheless, the set of modifications made to the gameplay, as well as the boring and rushed story, makes this game one of the biggest disappointments of the gaming industry. Naughty Dog, you have failed us

This game is the game of this console generation. Beautiful graphics, improved game play, soundtrack that fits well, and a story that does great things. This is a experience and best played with no expectations of story or what is going to happen because if you go in expecting something and don’t get it you just defeat yourself of a truly great experience

No está mal juego pero realmente me decepcionó la historia, es realista en algunas parte y en otras no. Y el final muy malísimos.
Lo que si me gustó fue la jugabilidad y la banda Sonora

Just finished the game and had a blast. Gameplay 6/10 Graphics 10/10 Music 10/10 Acting 10/10 Story 4/10. The game is just as badly written as the first game was. Gameplay problems like friendly AI not moving out of the way still in part 2 and clunky movement at times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's not bad just not good enough after 10/10 first part. I enjoyed the game but it didn't feel like yeah this is the best game I play so far. I don't mind playing for Abby even if a lot of players hate it but that ending rly? Its not the worst game I played but most expansive that I play and became such thrash in second part. So 5/10 for good graphics and ok gameplay but the **** story. Sorry, I really loved TLoU but this is waste of money :( Expand

I actually finished this game and this is not a review bomb. So this game has about 3 parts to it. The first part I was thinking if they end it here it was a pretty alright game. Then they have me switch characters to play what I did from a different side which while different felt redundant. Then they added a third part which was so unnecessary and annoying for me. The game is not a 3 because some elements are good such as the graphics and bits and pieces of the story. The gameplay while fun at first got old after about 10 hours. There are a lot of enemies in this game and miles of paths which at some point I just turned the difficulty down all the way to plow through the game and it still took way too long to finish. They could have ended the game 3 different times but instead they keep dragging it on. Overall don’t buy it. Especially for 60. I’d recommend watch a YouTube movie on it or wait till it’s 20 dollars. The game is definitely not a zero folks! Sure there's a clear issue with the story but the gameplay is the same, if not better than the first one, the graphics is one of the best I've seen in a video game and the story is decent even with it's issues. There's a lot of hate out there...

Just be prepared to play and try to survive with a character you hate and want to kill for half of the game and you should be fine. The ending is pretty disappointing as well.
But is the game worth experiencing? For sure, but maybe wait for a discount.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
