This game does not deserve tens, nines or zero-ones. The great idea (in theory) is destroyed by absolute mediocre screenplay with boring characters conversations and their illogical actions.
You can talk and argue about the ending of the first part for hours, it’s so powerful and contradictory. The second game will be forgotten in a few months. Pathetic.

The Last of Us is my favourite game of all time, I can't stress that enough whilst writing this. The sequel broke my heart. The sequel broke my heart. In acceptable ways at first, with certain character deaths that had me grieving for hours, and then unacceptable ways when they made the awful decision to make us play the antagonist for half the game, trying to force sympathy for a character we only grew to hate more. The whole game went downhill from there, and I almost feel like seeing it through to the end...wasn't worth it.

I cannot realistically give this game any less than a 5 because the graphics are outstanding, and you know what? If this WASN'T The Last of Us, this might be a good game. But it is. And they've broken a lot of fans hearts with this poorly written attempt at a sequel. Let's all just agree to stick to the first game and forget about this tragedy of a sequel.

The game sounds and looks beautiful, albeit with a fairly low FPS for me, coming from the world of PC gaming.

The gameplay is decent. I had some problems where the sway and the aim assist seemingly worked against each other, but that might just be because I'm not used to the controller, so I'm just pointing it out, and it didn't have an influence on my score.

The game is very linear most of the time, which is a plus for me. The game mostly leads you to the next part in an intuitive way.

I don't think I have ever seen this many custom settings for gameplay. While I never used them, it is a definite plus for people who need them.

I personally didn't mind the so called "pandering" in the game. Of the new characters, I probably ended up sympathizing with Lev the most.

What dragged this game down for me, however, was the structure and other choices in the narrative.
I understand that there need to be consequences for Joel. I get WHY he died, but HOW it was done is just so incomprehensible to me. The cautious main character of the first game dies in the beginning by walking into a camp filled with people he doesn't know. Nah, I don't buy it.

I also get why we get to "see" Abby's version of the events that unfold. But again, I don't agree with HOW we see it. I now have to play the character I'm meant to hate, through each scenario that lead up to friends dying, with intercut flashbacks which serve almost only to confuse me further. As I was searching the hotel for supplies, I almost quit the game, that's how much it dragged. At no point did I ever care about Abby. The only interesting thing about her storyline, was the introduction of Lev and his sister.

There are two morals to the story:
    1) The whole "revenge = bad". Cliché, and done poorly. I hated how Ellie flip-flopped during the end, and I wish it had been done differently. Perhaps not had the last fight, and made Ellie realize it when she saw the state of Abby on the pillar.
    2) How no one is intrinsically evil. We see Abby's version of the event to make us realize that what is good and evil in this world, isn't as simple as it may seem. The fact that the guys at the end are so one dimensionally evil kind of defeats that purpose, but I liked the idea, hated the execution of it.

In the end, it's not a terrible game. It does not in any way work as a sequel to the first one, and it has big problems in terms of structure. The best thing was the flashbacks with Joel, scattered through the narrative mess, and perhaps the conflict with the seraphites, and the character of Lev.
I wish it hadn't been attached to the first game, because then I might have liked it more, and it wouldn't have tarnished the franchise.

I struggle with whether to give it a 5 or a 6. If not for the vast amount of custom settings, I would have given it a 5.

-Gameplay: It’s really realistic combat, but it can get very tiring if you are playing the game on survivor like me. Abby part is a drag for me, I ran past several encounters just to get to the next area.
-Graphics: Stunningly realistic. There are some really cinematic scenes in the game, like Abby leaving the island.
-Details: Ellie will lower her head subconsciously while passing under the cable. Ellie can step on fences to jump. (You can trigger this animation by jump from the dumpster in the area where there is a Grafitti says **** the wolves.)

Everything has the right weight and each strike feels more realistic than ever before.

Lastly, the story has divided the fans due to people being overly attached to different characters and not thinking of it as a world of people. With different archs and different characters to enjoy. It is strange that the game over and over again get critiqued for the same points.

This game isn't as good as the first one in terms of story, yet it is more inclusive than ever before. I believe most should give it a chance and take a look into the story and message it is giving.

What keeps this game from being great however is the disrespectful treatment of the beloved characters of the first part: if you grew attached to them playing THE LAST OF US 1 expect to be disappointed. Expect to spend a large portion of the game playing a new, mostly unlikable character. Expect characters to be "out of character" and make illogical choices that make you scream "are you serious?!" at the screen. These aren't player choices either, you cannot influence the outcome.
TLOU II also made sure to force several SJW elements into the game but their impact is exaggerated: most people won't be triggered by a lesbian kiss or a butch looking female, but the way it was incorporated is rather pathetic: they're tokens and if I were one of the LGBT-whatever crowd, I might be offended.
TLOU II 's visuals are stunning, but its storytelling lets it down. I liked TLOU 1 much better and I would not consider TLOU II to be essential. Definitely not GOTY material.

There's just too many narrative flaws and that's why I cannot fully enjoy this game.

Don't get me wrong: it's visually stunning, amazingly beautiful, the voice acting is superb! Naughty Dog set the bar extremely high! And the game did manage to get a lot of emotions out of me...

But story wise, it gets so many things wrong (pacing, character motivations, god - just the writing...) It's frustrating. I remember during parts of the second half of the game, I had to force myself to stay awake, and keep paying attention. And I struggled with liking most of the new characters.

After the ending of the first game, I wanted to explore the relationship between Joel & Ellie more… Like: what would happen between them, how did their relationship decline or progress, stuff like that... What about the cure? ... That's what drew me to TLOUP2 in the first place.

I am really disappointed. And again. An audience shouldn't have to guess the meaning behind a scene or a character motivation. This story wasn't build up the way it should. If you're telling a story, you need to be able to follow and aplly the basics of writing and storytelling. I don't mind the experiment that is TLOU2 on paper, but it wasn't executed successfully.

I strongly disapprove that Naughty Dog (& Neil Druckmann, even Troy Baker) aren’t willing to understand or admit this. They aren’t willing to listen. They keep pretending that there's nothing wrong with the game… But that's not true. And the fact that they can't take any (constructive) criticism says a lot. It is very disappointing.

I loved the tiny details and what message the game was trying to tell us but it falls short on that. The story which was initially supposed to be the relationship between Joel and Ellie is very disappointing. The story derails way too early and the game wants us to care about the characters we hardly care or like. The game seems to treat other characters better than Ellie Or Joel. I really enjoyed the first game. It was a 10/10 game.

Unfortunately, this cannot be said for the second game as with these types of games being heavily winning or losing based on the story, ultimately in my opinion the story here is inferior to the first.

The first game had an engaging story and characters who you learn more about as the game progresses and ultimately leaves you wanting to experience more with those characters.

The fundamental problem with this second game is they have decided to drastically change some of the aspects of the characters from the first game to a point where you really have to work hard to believe some of the decisions and word exchanges that occur between these characters. Specifically the dialogue between Ellie and Joel seem very contrived in order to force more conflict than should be required. Due to this and the overall depressive tone for the new/old characters you don't feel as engaged or interested with this story, there are highlights for new/old characters however its nowhere near as effective as it was with the first game.

There is then a hard attempt to introduce new characters which again I don't have too much problem with as new characters can be a great addition to games, however in this instance it comes across that they are trying too hard to ensure you "LIKE" the new characters and they will do anything to ensure you "LIKE" them more than the previous characters. it even translates to the gameplay of the new character in which they give you more upgrade paths and better weapons.

The overall story is quite ambitious and I believe it could have been potentially fantastic, however it fails due to some of the pacing and also the narrative timeline that they choose to go with. Due to the ordering of the story it ruins any attempt that they want to instil in you, to "LIKE" the new characters.

Also without any spoilers I felt the ending was very unsatisfying and did not really bring any closure that it could have done.

There are some positives, the graphics and music are outstanding. The gameplay is good as well, however, I feel like they could have done some more improvements/innovation since the first game. There is a small semi-open world section which I feel if they had done more with could have made it a little more interesting.

All in all, it's definitely disappointing when compared with the journey of the first game. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next game.

The acting, graphics, animation and sound design are all excellent and the music is good though not on the same level as that from the first game. When you get out of the monotony of stealth and scavenging, the gameplay can be fun because the characters are agile, responsive, and generally great to play as. The guns feel "weighty" and are just satisfying to fire. It's just that the brutal gameplay and all the killing feels contradictory to the themes and message of the story and i found that to be a game breaking issue. It broke immersion and made it hard for me to buy into the feelings and motivations of the characters. Otherwise, It's packed to the brim with difficulty and accessibility options though i never really made use of them.

Overall, it feels good to play but as a story driven game, the story is the most important thing and though i don't hate it, it's easily the weakest part of the game. This game is even more grim, bleak and depressing than the first game and without any glimmer of hope. Gone are the loveable and relatable characters of the first game to be replaced with husks who barely resemble them. For some characters, it makes sense how they got to where they are in the story but they just aren't interesting anymore. Plenty of the added characters are shallow and one-note. I found it hard to care about their conflicts. The core themes of the story are often undermined by the gameplay and there are serious problems with the pacing. The game is far too long, and there are too many tension breaking flashbacks that i'd argue are ineffective in their purposes. On top of that, the resolution to the story feels rushed, unsatisfying and unearned. There are also numerous coincidences, conveniences and contrivances in the story but those are more nitpicks than legitimate grievances.

Like i said, it's good in everything but story. It's admirable that is this is a story that dares to take risks and it isn't all bad actually. There are some genuinely excellent moments and heartfelt scenes sprinkled in here but they are overwhelmed by a story that just wasn't executed properly. If Druckmann played around more with the placement of the flashbacks, gave some characters more to do, and cut certain parts of the story, i'd have liked this more.

The discourse around The Last of Us Part 2 went really well didn’t it. On one side we have the mainstream critics with their heads so far up their own arse they are unable to properly critically engage with a game like this and ended up just giving it 10s. Then on the other side we have a large chunk of the gaming community being a bunch of immature children unable to deal with a piece of media/art. The truth is The Last of Us Part 2 is a well made and ambitious game. But unfortunately the developers may have bit off more than they could chew and the game is a bit of a mess that didn’t land right.

The most important thing to say about The Last of Us Part 2 is I am so glad they tried and that they were allowed to try. Most games in the AAA space are so safe. The fact that nobody stepped in at any point to say just give us a safe, predictable sequel and that Naughty Dog was permitted to do their thing is excellent. Naughty Dog could have just given us a basic journey across the country with Joel and Ellie on some simple revenge quest but instead they aimed higher and tried to deliver a grand, ambitious game about hate. I really hope the backlash to this game doesn’t cause future AAA games to be even more risk averse because that would be sad to see as AAA games are already, typically too frightened of interesting characters/stories, challenging and/or new gameplay, real puzzles, bold style, old genres, etc.

The most obvious thing is this game looks phenomenal. This is as good as it gets on PS4. The attention to detail is staggering. The number of unique objects and animations in this game is ridiculous. I cannot stress enough how impressive it is. I don’t think anyone else is even close to being on the same level as Naughty Dog. All aspects of the presentation including visuals, attention to detail, atmosphere, sound, acting performances, how well it runs, etc, is all top notch and if this was the only thing games were rated on then maybe a 10/10 wouldn’t be so silly.

The gameplay is exactly what you expect if you have played the first game. It is solid and enjoyable but not exceptional. They make a number of sensible improvements over the first game, like going prone to hide under things and to crawl through grass. I really enjoyed that the areas are larger and more vertical which allowed combat encounters to be more dynamic and free. Resources are just limited enough to keep you changing up your weapon and approach. The combat is very violent and visceral and the AI reacts pretty well to what you are doing both verbally and mechanically. I had a good time jumping out of stealth causing some horrific carnage and then diving back into stealth. The environmental puzzles felt more varied this time too. However the game regularly wasted my time and the gameplay just isn’t enough to keep me coming back for multiple playthroughs. It also feels like a missed opportunity. They could have done more with the gameplay especially with two playable characters.

Now for the games biggest issues; story, characters and pacing. First of all this game is a bloater, god damn why is it so long? An editor needed to come along a just cut so much fat off this game. The pacing is a complete mess and most of the time feels too slow. It starts off way too long and slow. Then there are two middle sections both of which are a little too long, then a long lead up to the end and then the actual end. The returning characters are great but the new ones are just nothing. I still remember Tess, Bill, David, Sam, Henry, Marlene and even Ish from the first game. But I can’t remember the names of these side characters and I don’t care enough to look them up. The story is a mix of highs and lows there are some excellent moments and I really liked the ending. But there are plenty of moments that just do not land at all and so much that I just didn’t connect with. The whole thing is too contrived as well.

The other big issues I have are no multiplayer and no replayability. The Factions multiplayer was so damn good in the first game and I know a lot of people won’t understand it but for me it was one the best multiplayer experiences ever and a big part of why I bought the remaster. It hurts that it just isn’t here and still to this day there is no new multiplayer released. I also can’t bring myself to play through this more than twice, which was enough to get the platinum trophy, even though I finished the first game 7 times. It’s too long and bloated and wastes too much time and the gameplay isn’t enough to pull me back in.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a must play for anyone that played the first game and if you haven’t then what are you doing here, go play the first one. You really should play this for yourself. Don’t listen to the mainstream critics or the angry gamers. Play it and form your own opinions. I think it is a really good but uneven game and I would still easily recommend it.

Good game gameplay wise. If you like the game play of the first its much the same with a few new abilities. It's a step up graphically and has a lot more combat animations. The story wasn't as good as the original imo but it's still a pretty decent game. Nothing ground breaking just modest upgrades from the original. Game of year contender? I'll reserve judgement until cyberpunk 2977.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a strange review for me since part of me want to give this game a 10 and part of me want to give it a 0. It could have easely been a no brainer 10 for me and I even like many parts of it more than the first one.

First I want to just list some stuff that I absolutely love about this game (I played the game on the hardest Survival difficulty):

The character models and their facial expressions and how alive they look is the best I have ever seen in any game.

The AI behaviour of enemies is the best I have seen in any game (apart from it being a bit too unrealistic how they can't see you crawling around in grass, at least of the hardest difficulty I would have liked if that part was more realistic as how well they can see that.

The gore and how blood flows and even streams of the characters is the best and most realistic I have seen in any game.

The environments and sense of details is some of the best I have seen in any game and up on par with the sense of details in games like Red Dead Redemption 2.

The HUD options where you can tweak almost everything to be visible or not for the most immersive experience possible is amazing

Now as I said in the beginning this game would normally be a no brainer 10 out of 10 for me and I would even like it more than the first one. Apart from one thing.

What is that thing? Some might think the story and how the main character is changed and how she kills Joe etc. And no that is not it, I actually love that kind of thing as my favorite novels are those of Mccarthy where cruel and often completely "meaningless" things happens, as that is life and reality (which I am sure is also a big influence on the game)

I actually ended up liking Abby as a character and sympathised with her in wanting to kill Ellie and thought it was pure genius how they managed to show the other side and actually made me side with the "bad guy" and want to kill the main character heroine. I was so dissapointed and sad when it felt like they just built up for that moment and then reversed on it at the last moment in a very anticlimactic and completely out of character way. It did not make any sense at all.

However, even though I was sad and dissapointed in this and thought it was a huge waste of potential for all the build up to that point that would still not hurt the game enough for me to not want to give it a 10.

The main reason now why I can't put a 10 score on this is that I see how they put social agenda before the art of making this game as belivable and realistic as possible. There is games and movies with women that are beliviable and with intergrity, one example that feels quite close to the Last of Us is the movie Sicario. While the woman in that movie feels right for the movie, everything here in this regard just feels forced and unrealistic. They did not make every enemy squad in the game be ordered around by a womans commanding voice because that makes the most sense in the world they are building, but just because of reason: "strong womanz" and that is it. It is extemely transparent when someone makes a piece of art, like a novel or a movie, or a game and tries to make that world be as beliviable as possible (especially when it is as gritty and realistic as this one). It feels very insulting though and transparent when it is obvious that someone puts things like this in their work, not because of the best of the work and the integrity of the work, but just because of their personal agenda, like they just want to preach something at you and that is more important than the art. I can take strong women or gay and trans issues in a work of fiction, if that feels like it belong there and was put there because it should be there in its own right no matter the creators personal agendas, but in this case it is so constantly forced on you that it almost ends up as a comedy where you start to have a hard time to take anything else in the game seriously.

As I said, I even liked Abby as a character, even with her roid physique (she has back roid acne also so I assume she is on roids as that would actually make sense in the world where you would take drugs like that if you could to enhance your survival chance so I give this the benefit of the doubt here in that it does makes sense in the world and that she was not just built like this to further push uneralstic "strong womanz" agenda, which is sadly probably the only case if I am completely honest)

It actually speaks to how good the rest of the game is that I still don't want to give this 0. Normally I would never give something any more then 0 that I feel insult me in this way in thinking they can push things on me in this blatant and stupid way. But the game is so good outside all that stuff. It is just sad that we have to see so many great works of art get so tainted by all these agendas these days that does nothing but hurt the believability and integrity of the art that I can't just ignore it either.

    - Stupid and non-sense motivation for the story. If the story were better structured, with fewer flashbacks, it might have been more decent. But because of the excessive flashback, it totally break the sense of expectation for me. It's really mediocre.
    - The game tries to be an extension of the first game, but fails miserably.
    - You don't find any other characters, like Bill and Henry, it's like the world of that size is completely empty with other good people trying to survive.
    - The game tries to ignore all the meaning of its own name, putting Ellie's immunity almost oblivious, while creating a narrative for other characters in one of the stupidest ways I've ever seen in a video game.
    - The narrative is a mess. The game tries to justify violence over violence, making you, or at least trying to, become attached to a character, creating justification for your actions - totally unconscionable, considering the nature of the game.
    - Still no infected animals and/or a decent variety of infected

    Conclusion:

The game is still fun to play, but the mess in the story and the direction they went with the game is something that can completely ruin your experience, if you are a big fan of the first game. The first game is all about finding a cure, and you encounter different situations and characters along the way. This game has none of t that, no justification for existing in tha sense. It is just a stage to show how hate and revenge not worth it. Typical. Mess typical.

The Last of Us 2 is a damn good game in regards to quality gameplay with incredible visuals, animations, sound and accessability options. It unfortunately and occasionally stumbles due to a tired revenge story, poor pacing, and lack of a multiplayer from the original. It's enough to keep it from reaching its true Game of the Year potential that it clearly wants to be at.

    Character development: 6
    Gameplay: 10
    Graphics: 10
    Ending: 5

The story as a whole tries to explore the concept of the endless cycle of revenge and why due to the nature of human beings is quite difficult to break. The killing of a very beloved character (Joel) is justified with decisions made in the past that led to our “new” protagonist to seek revenge for the death of her murdered father, however the idea is poorly executed with dumb actions the character wouldn’t even make in any situation, and thus it leaves aside all the storytelling and character development for him from the previous game.
However, what really made me play all the way through were the astonishing graphics this game has to offer. The gameplay mechanics are pretty entertaining and are actually fun to navigate into.
The ending is pretty lame because it doesn’t fit the whole storytelling from both games. While it tries to justify the decision made by Ellie in not killing the killer of her “father in law”, it does not take into account all the killing that has happened before even though Ellie is completely aware of it. Ironically, the senseless killing all characters committed turned pointless the message of the ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing this from start to finish, and not reviewing early like i’m certain some have, i think an average score is very fair.
The gameplay is excellent and on par with its predecessor, the graphics are impeccable, the attention to detail is on another level also. If the story was on par with the original then this would easily be one of the greatest games ever made, unfortunately that is not the case. The big shock is not what ruined the story for me, it was a wow moment an i carried on, when Dina came into play as your partner it got very confusing as i could not tell who was saying what due to their voices being extremely similar, even with subtitles this didn’t help. Then you have Jesse (aka glenn from walking dead) boring as hell just get out of here please....thankyou.
Finally when i thought it was all over it wasn’t you have to play the game as shehulk, and what i can only explain is naughty dogs attempt to pull a breaking bad on us and make protagonist become the antagonist, nicely done but predictable, Then the story goes off on another tangent whereby you make friends with who i describe as the One-Arm bandit an the last airbender, this part of the story seems wishy washy and pointless, its as if they struggled to think of what Abby could have been up to whilst Ellie was raising hell, the term wild goose chase comes to mind.
The cherry on the top that really destroyed it for me and when I thought no, please no, no naughty dog, you didn’t just, oh my yes you did, was when they pulled out the transfender storyline, the lesbian love story was fine although a little awkward to watch at times. But when the transgender storyline popped it was as if naughty dog pulled down their preverbial pants and let current affairs/media/society as a whole slowly insert a 10 inch d1ldo inside them, If the game came out a year later I wouldn’t have been suprised if Abby was Black! I’m by no means homophobic at all but i hear about all this daily in the news, the last thing i or i assume most people want is for this kind of crap to smear its way into our beloved game storylines, theres a time and place an this isn’t it, Naughty Dog should try less to be “original” and please the mass population but instead try to please the gamers and the people who actually play the games.

Before I write my review, let me say that I am a huge HUGE fan of the Last Of Us (and all of Naughty Dog studios games). So much so that before I even started this one, I actually replayed the first one and reread everything just to make sure my experience in this one would go unhindered.

    Anyways... Onto the review...

When I first started Part 2, I was happy to see that this sequel played and felt like the original one. Many of the first game's details were basically carried over and improved. The music, game play, and general ambiance were all kept intact. A perfect example of NOT fixing things when they aren't broken. So to that, I praise the developers. Solid 10.

But beyond the music, the game play, and the ambiance, Part 2 takes what was strong in the first game and tosses it into the garbage. It almost feels as if a different writer or team was in charge of this game as the story telling and the general character development take on a completely different approach. And that's a big problem.

The last of us is a shallow game and that's not a bad thing. It's like if a lake were to have crystal clear water and you can see right through to the bottom teeming with wild life. Or how a glass enclosure can allow us to safely view a tiger in its enclosure. The game is shallow so that you can focus on its story line.

But this transparency is a double-edged sword. Great moments are amplified but so are the crappy ones. Which should make things easier right…? After all, if you know that there would be a heavy reliance on the storyline, all you had to do was make sure that the story lived up to its name.
But perhaps in what could’ve been a golden opportunity became one for disaster as the story line basically fell way short of expectations.
Many of the developments in the original story line were basically "closed off". The relationship between Joel and Ellie was basically stopped. Fireflies became irrelevant. Ellie's immunity to the infection? Didn't even matter. As I progressed deeper and deeper into the game, it almost felt as if someone in the game developer's team was just trying to distinguish Part 2 from the first one. Just because.
And then you have the character development....
Almost the entire game, from to get go, just shoves character after character into your face. Why? I don't care about them. I'm playing this game because I want to find out what happens to our favorite father daughter duo. Therefore.... The only reason why a new character should be introduced is if that character's fate is somehow intertwined with Joel and Ellie. But nope. Instead the developer wastes everybody's time to delve into trying to make you care about characters who are IMO "super useless".

The saddest thing about this game is that I would've been fine if it all made sense in the end. Like if you’re able to pull everything together to make me feel something. But it doesn't. Instead it leaves you feeling ... unsatisfied. So basically, you spend an entire 30+ HOURS on a game chasing NOTHING. Do you know how FRUSTRATING that can be?
So with that all that said, my final score is a 6. If the game was rated without the story and character development being included, I would give it a higher score. But it falls so shortly of expectations I honestly feel at this point that I'm only giving it a 6 because I enjoyed the first one so much.
I really hope that the team at Naughty Dog can see this review and grow from it. I know that they can do better and I've seen it. Here's to hoping that they get their sh** together for Part 3…

Because as we can clearly say the decisions are made prior to keeping in view how that might impact the story, would that be positive ? or negative ? Considering that statements Naughty Dog had a lot of flaws here, they did not have any sense or idea that it would leave a negative impact on the people, they completely neglected the male part of the story literally killed every single male alive leaving it a feminist's game, and they messed up real bad with the story, a sadness which I may not overcome for a shortwhile because they did it and nobody wanted it, none expected it, and probably no one liked it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game should never have received a 95, the fair score for it would be 50 or 60. I played 28 hours and I can speak with all sincerity, this is an average game. Don't get me wrong, but the story of this game is so porously constructed and directed that there are moments that you get lost and tired. Neil Druckmann wanted to implement a whole political agenda within the game, and I succeeded. On the positive points, I can quote 3.

    1° Graphics

Basically, it's all the power of PS4, it's the game that most abuses the capacity of the console, even having downgrade compared to what the naughty dog showed in 2018, is still very impressive and wonderful

    2° Playability

The gameplay of the 1st game was already very good in 2013, here in this game, there was a reuse, expanding and improving what was already stabilized in the franchise.

    3° Violence

The graphic and verbal violence in this game is on another level, everyone is angry and distressed, when you finish a person with Ellie or Abby, it's always with enough anger and in such a violent way that you notice on the face of the characters.

These three points together, they score 40 for the game, but what **** it all up is the story

History would have greater potential if it weren't for all the mess made by the script. Starting with Joel's death, in this game clearly his only use was to do marketing so Sony could sell the game to the community that is a fan of the character and the old game. Ellie, here in this game, completely changed Ellie's personality, I left that funniest and most spontaneous person and an angry and serious adult came in, which didn't agree with her.

Dina, a completely disposable character who doesn't care if she existed or not.

Abby, her story could be something created in a DLC, it would save time and not leave the game so dull and dull. Everything about this character is in exaggeration, Naughty Dog wants you to have that feeling of empathy but you can't feel empathy with this character. She's very rude, very authoritarian, there's no way to empathize with her. They put the key point of her story (Joel's death) right at the beginning of the game and will only explain why she did it and with so much violence after more than 10 hours of gameplay, besides it is not explained why she is so strong, she is very disproportionate, as in a post-apocalypse a woman finds supplements and anabolic to get that size, she is stronger than any male character that appears, it becomes even comical.

But the cherry on the manure cake is the end, it means naughty dog that after we kill all those people, after we lose everything and everyone we had and still lose 3 fingers, you just let Abby go. Why did I spend more than 20 hours killing, stealing, running, all this for nothing?

The last of us 2 is an expensive game that has an ending to a self-help book that costs 1.99. I'm very impressed with the corruption that Sony does when buying these journalists.

Game story is terrible, best known game for its storytelling and it’s complete failure, they tried smth different turned out garbage, main character death is forced and done for shock value, ending is bad, for new playable character lack of sympathy, Ellie’s love story is not shown much, would be great if it was more, feels like lacking chemistry between her and Dina. Joel gone as a protector and Ellie growing up its missing last of us 1 formula, which was loved because of that by millions of people around the world, u sympathize characters and relationship development is beautifully done, this whole dynamic is lost here. I understand if main character has to go but like that, its BS, treated Joel like crap and it happens literally in first 2 hours of the game, so early and then u play after that 20 hours, wooow, forcing yourself playing as Joel’s killer Abby and trying to sympathize her, nobody cares. A great example how beloved character goes away is in Walking Dead season one, where Lee dies by the end of the game defending Clementine, thats a great way to go, but here its delivered stupidly for shock value and doesn’t make sense. Lot of inconsistencies Joel and Tommy being portrayed as dumb bricks giving there names and surrounding themselves with complete strangers locked in room, that would never happen, knowing from last of us 1 Joel having all those survival skills, he would never put himself in that kinda situation. Ellie’s vengeance road is what makes u play game but before ending which sucks, all characters u kill no back-story, completely forgettable, and story as a whole garbage, but hey what i know, to appreciate the game u need to have high iq to understand its themes and messages lol
only good thing about the game is Joel and Ellie flashbacks, the graphics itself best Naughty Dog done, world around and improved gameplay elements.

    1) I found it easy to become invested in Ellie’s new story, and the connections she has with Dina, Jesse, Tommy & Joel are very believable & down to earth.
    2) I thought the the final showdown between Ellie & Abby was done brilliantly; I never thought that I would be desperately pleading in my head with Ellie not to kill Abby.
    3) The gameplay mechanics are simply a joy to experience. Ellie & Abby feel so grounded and real, and each action carries its own weight that you have to weigh up in tense situations.
    4) The environments are utterly breathtaking. Every direction you look at almost any point in the game presents you with a frame that could easily be mistaken for official artwork. The environmental storytelling and atmosphere is a whole other element of the game to get lost in.
    5) Facial expressions in this game are mind-blowing. These are perhaps the most expressive and emotive characters I have ever seen in a video game.
    6) Character animations do a great job at making you believe that you are interacting with a world of real people; each button press and flick of the analog stick feel weighty and real.
    7) The soundtrack is phenomenal; from moments of tranquility to tense combat, I often found myself taking a moment to appreciate the score.
    8) Ellie’s descent into obsessive rage is an uncomfortable but believable reaction to her experience. She is possibly suffering from PTSD and I think it is refreshing to see the game explore less savoury weaknesses of characters we love without going too far down the “Luke Skywalker Treatment” road. I thought this was a realistic and interesting balance.

    Cons

    1) I really disagree with Naughty Dog’s decision to leave out the fact that you don’t play as Ellie for half of the game. In fact, in previews & reviews it is often said “when you are playing as Ellie...” with never so much as a hint that there are multiple playable characters in the game. The moment you first play as Abby in ‘Seattle Day One’ is not important or profound or an “OMG” surprise, so I feel like it was deceptive to leave this information out of the marketing.
    2) This game introduces lots of new characters and lots of new relationships which feel much shallower than the original. Instead of further exploring the art of developing a small amount of deeply personal relationships, Naughty Dog has clearly made a conscious decision to follow a large amount of shallow relationships, but we don’t spend enough time with them to fully appreciate them.
    3) There were times where I could really “feel” that the game was trying to make me “feel” a certain way, which completely broke the immersion for me. For example; extremely sad & emotional music would play at a certain point during a cutscene at a moment which just felt completely wrong - the beauty of previous Naughty Dog games is that I would experience emotions for characters without even realising. It is sad to see that magic lost at times.
    4) The characters in this game are simply not up to par of what I have come to expect from Naughty Dog. In the past, I have been convinced that they have mastered the art of crafting ‘likeable’ characters, but I felt like a lot of the side characters in Abby’s storyline in particular (and even Abby herself at times) were pretty dull, forgettable and annoying.
    5) I felt like Joel’s death was extremely abrupt, and we were not given enough time to digest what had just happened or even sit with Ellie as she processed what had happened. I feel like the now infamous golf-club-execution scene also lost some of its weight because it wasn’t made 100% clear that Joel had actually died until we see a shot of his gravestone.
    6) The whole story in Seattle was enabled by Tommy seeing a ‘WLF’ badge at some point during Joel’s execution. It felt cheap that we immediately find out who killed Joel and where they live because of some convenient piece of information provided by another character; would it not have added more weight to spend some time with Ellie desperately trying to figure out who did it and tracking them down?
    7) The fact that Dina agreed to join Ellie on her murderous assassin rampage mission to a dangerous city miles from Jackson when she knew that she was pregnant is an example of “The Last Jedi Syndrome”; characters finding themselves in terrible situations not because of circumstance or defeat, but simply because they are stupid.
    8) Abby’s plentiful non-combat “story” missions bored me to tears. They do a good job at filling in some backstory, but they felt like the equivalent of the Walking Dead episode where Daryl and Beth just talk in a cabin for an hour and get attacked at the end - boring and unnecessary.

No me llego a convencer del todo la historia del juego, creo que pudo tener un mejor giro. En los aspectos visuales y técnicos son muy buenos, pero debieron mejorar en los personajes y cómo iban evolucionando a lo largo de la historia.

The graphics are fantastic! Animation is fantastic! Everything EXCEPT for the story and writing is fantastic... There are so many things wrong with this game storytelling wise, that explaining why I feel that way..would be exhausting. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is a game that does a good job at improving the gameplay and visuals over its predecesor...but it's narrative brings it down to a poorly executed pretentious product...that underestimates the intelligence of its audience and is (seemingly) not aware of its own hipocrisssy. Just to give a perspective, the balance between narrative and gameplay in this game can be divided like this: 30% pure combat gameplay, 30% exploration and basic gameplay, and 40% narrative driven sequences. So, having that much narrative makes this game rely a bit too much in its story to move things forward. You feel like you wanna see what happens next, and in that sense the narrative sequences become kind of a reward for the player. Given this, is very hard to judge the game as a whole without the story. And it's a shame that the story in itself suffers from the pretentious intentios behind it. There are pacing issues, there are plotholes, there are badly hidden plot devices and stuff that may (an will) pull you out of the experience. It's hard to get into details without spoiling the game but let me say that you have 2 main protagonists, and the intention of the creators to give a message that is stronger than their skills to build a believable story around it. You have main characters treated like plot devices, you have circumstances that are way too fortuituos to be real, many forced situations just to serve the writers intentions behind them. In most cases it just doesn't work well enough to make it believable. There's a 2nd character that you'll be forced to use for half the game, and they try so hard to make her appealing that it also can put you off the experience. But the worst thing is the epilogue...a forced, hilariously long and convoluted epilogue that does more to lessen the overall ecperience than enrich it. The ending must be one of the pointless things I have ever played and watched in my life. It leaves you empty, and wondering what was the point of even doing this game. To me is not a bad game/experience, but is for sure not a good one. Is just a "meh". Maybe it's worst for those who loved the first one and it's characters. On a final note, just say that there are many subliminal and also on your face messages that will remind you of that so called "secret agenda" form Neil Druckman, and it also can pull you off the experience. From religious statements, to forcing certain type of characters, to making all white males die or be useless or dumb, and a long list that I felt does not add to this review. To me is an experience to have just if you get the game in a very good sale. Expand

THE CON The last of us is a narrative driven game and sadly the story goes from "okay ill take it" to bad to ultimately worse. Seriously whoever wrote this its just not good with very few likable characters and a loss of direction. Ellie is on the cover of the game and you only play as her for like half of it. Its not the follow up to Joel and Ellies adventure. Its Ellie and other characters who I could care less about with a loss of purpose as the story goes on. Honestly pretty disappointed with how dumb it turned out. Maybe if you didn't play the first game you might like the story buy comparatively its not even in the same league. If you asked me 10 hrs into the game I would have given it a 9, 20hrs in an 8 and then after the conclusion its a 7. Final thoughts Congrats on the team for making and amazing "gameplay experience" that is unmatched Shame on the group of people that decide this was a story even worth considering and then actually sticking with it Expand

There's a lot of work, that was put to this game and it's gorgeous. Sound design is very good, so it has very good potential!

As for the story and characters I'm comparing it to first part. I remember nearly all characters, they were very interesting and memorable. In Part II characters seem out of reality or so. There's not so much to tell about them. Second part of the game has very good gameplay, but dumb decisions, that are not logical and don't influence me as a gamer. Ending was also disappointing. I might know, what Neil wanted to say, but in comparison of first game, he fails to deliver. I nearly had some facepalms during the game.

So should you play it? Yes, it's a good game. But if you are a fan of first part be careful - it might get you upset unfortunately. I put 7 for such game from Naughty Day - never thought this happening.

This game had the potential to be a 10/10, but, sadly, the story is badly written and poorly executed. I like the ideas behind the game and everything appart from the story is 10/10. Maybe if they did some ajustements to the passing and cut some sections, the game could hit a 9 or 10. Little bit sad to know that this game could have been so much more. Still had fun for the most part.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, this game is not bad and the problem is not the story. I think the real problem of TLOU 2 is how they adapt the story to the game. If you play the first 10 hours, you have a masterpiece in your hand. However, second part of the game is too linear and the story loses its strength. I good and serious idea becomes cringey as they force you to play so long with the antagonist. But, I have to say that many attitudes of Ellie are not good either. If this game had choices in the critical moments, it would correct some of its problems. I have issues with the AI, because the same behaviour start to make me bored in the second part. This game would be perfect with 12-14 hours, instead of 20+. When you're putting the player in a constant bad trip, you should make the game shorter, or it will lose the purpose. The last third of the game became just a torture. I gave 7 out 10, because the graphic is gorgeous, the first 10 hours is really good, and the idea of the story was great. The first huge mistake was to let Joel falls so easy in a trap, they could work better in this part, then execute the golf scene as the same it is. Abby part is totally desnecessary, just ruined my experience, could be a 10-15 min of cutscene, instead of many hours of linear gameplay. Expand

Coming from a fan of the first game... I loved the original. I'm gay, so there's not "Omg a lesbian!??!" ... I don't know anyone actually annoyed with that. Ellie has always been a lesbian, and it was presented in a non dead-horse beating sort of way in the original game. People's issue with the LGBT stuff in the game, is mostly to do with how people outside of the game are parading it around and dismissing criticism by just calling everyone bigots lol. As a gay dude, I get annoyed when gay characters get shoved in people's faces, and used as marketing and virtue signaling. It's lame. That aside... this new story really takes a big dump on the fans. I'm expected to play as a character that kills one of the beloved original characters? No thanks. Whoever thought that was a good idea, needs to lose their job. Gross. There's not even closure for that crap. It all just annoys me to no end.

Anyone giving this game a 0, through 3... isn't honest. Anyone giving it a 8-10... is either not honest, or isn't a fan of the original game. That's my take on those scores anyway.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Considering events of the first part I didn't like the idea of the plot - to make the main character dead at the beginning and make vengeance as plot of the whole game. Sometimes nonsense happens, especially at the final part of the game. There are also good ideas, for example, watching the story not only with the main character's eyes, with the antagonist's too. However, too much time was spent playing the second character - a half of the game. The dramatic constituent's strong, I cried several times and felt really bad for main characters. The gameplay is identical with first part's one, sadly almost no innovations. Moreover, it's extended with larger locations and dull looting. AI's stupid if medium difficulty's chosen. The whole graphics's incrediable, especially animations. A lot of time was spent on little things. Despite all these problems, I liked the game on the whole. Expand

Ellie's tale is actually one I personally enjoyed, as you really understand her anger from the beginning. As you have grown with her, you tend to root for her as she takes out her adversaries one by one. Abby on the other hand is really where this game can be hit or miss. Abby committed a horrific act(which is why Ellie hunts her) and when it comes to her side of the story, the writers really try to make you understand where she was coming from and empathize with her. Personally it just didn't work for me. I didn't care enough for what she was fighting for nor her friends. So to me the story felt good for the first half and for the second half had me bored. What about the gameplay? That is where the game can really shine. TLOU2's gameplay is a much more improved version of the first entry. You know exactly what you are getting into. Looting and using your resources to craft various tools to help you while you brave through areas of infected or one of the new factions. Stealth is something that feels way more important this time around. As every bullet of your gun counts, you should really save it for moments that you need them. Stealth can be really fun as there are a lot of opportunities for you to take down your enemies, using vehicles, holes in walls, and tall patches of grass to get around the area unspotted. There are new enemies that also really help to mix up your experience. Dogs, are new enemies who force you to constantly be on the move to evade them. In terms of infected, there are stalkers who are a weaker version of Clickers that like to sneak up on you and alert other infected around you. The human enemies are also really interesting this time around as they will now call out to their mates and make sure that everyone around them is still okay. The pressure is very much felt within these stealth sequences. Combat is improved as well with a new dodge button being added. And although it isn't a mind blowing addition it is a welcome one. The dodge button really feels like you have a chance in combat, when it works. The only issue with this button is it sometimes feels delayed and even when you're sure you hit the dodge button at the right time, you still end up getting hit. Friendly ai also add quite a bit to combat and stealth sequences. Unlike the first game, the allies will actually help you kill enemies or even spot them out to you. And they can either feel useful or feel like they are weighing you down. Thats one of the biggest issues I have with the game in terms of gameplay/mechanics is the AI can be really good, or really bad. The allies suffer from this, constantly getting in your way and making dumb decisions(ex. I got spotted by a clicker and an ally came and shut the door behind me, resulting in my death). The enemies are no different, they sometimes feel blind or just stupid half of the time. When the AI works, it feels great especially when the enemies start coordinating with methods of how to attack you. In terms of boss fights, there aren't much but they have some good ones(with one being awesome). The graphics are also really good but can sometimes look off. The scenery is incredible! There were plenty of moments where I would just stop and admire the world. And the sound design is phenomenal; when I first heard the clickers in this game I got chills. With a played time of about 26 hours, there's a lot to dig into. But having loved the first game so much, and with the first games influence on me being so massive, I just couldn't find myself to care for the story despite the fun gameplay. Expand

Perfect graphics, good gameplay, pointless story. The first game story was way better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game's story revolves around revenge for Joel's death (And what a stupid and stolen death, Joel deserved a better death); but when it comes time to close the story, and have revenge, they simply put it for us to try to marry Ellie. What the hell is this bow ?!
But we have a new chance to avenge Joel, and when we're happy to kill Abby, Ellie doesn't finish and let her go unpunished. Even with the character's journey, to find Abby, in the end this journey is simply thrown away. Final is disappointing, and they managed to throw away the whole arc created, by the death - silly and stupid - of Joel.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let’s first start off by saying that this is a good game worth playing. The sound, art, music, voice acting, characters and graphics are all spectacular. And the story is pretty damn good too. It feels like a natural progression of the first game, even if I don’t 100% agree with some decisions made in the story. There are a lot of flashbacks that it kind of takes you out of the game. Also, you can spend so much time walking around to find stupid items that have absolutely no effect on the game and the puzzles get old quickly. I will say that combat is good enough and the enemy/allies AI is pretty amazing. My biggest problem with this game is you play as a character named Abby for a good half of the game. I like Abby as a character and her story is really good. But no matter how much you play as her you never fully embrace her because of a choice she makes a little less than a quarter into the game. Her character/story would have made for a perfect spinoff game in my opinion. Overall this game is good and worth the time. And contrary to other reviews, this game doesn’t try to push an agenda or try to be some SJW propaganda. Anyone who makes that claim has not played the game at all, or at least finished it. Expand

The last of us was primary the relationship between Joel and Ellie for me, what is definitely ruined in the part 2. Big Part of this game is also absolutely without motivation and does not make sense

It has it's flaws and is definitely not the best game I've ever played, but it's honestly not as bad as everyone says.

Неправильно поставленный сюжет, затянутость геймплея за Эбби и откровенный тир за нее же, не дает мне поставить игре выше 6.

Вполне неплохая игра. Но в некоторых моментах она очень сильно раздражает.
И концовка вообще не о чем

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
