0/10 is unfair, as is 10/10. The story is terrible. Absolutely awful. It makes no sense and has no semblance of coherency while playing, mostly during the second half of the game. Disappointing. Save $60, watch someone else play it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this game. I’ve been looking forward to it for years, much like a lot of other ND fans. I believe that Neil Druckmann was looking to avert expectations and take risks. I don’t think that those risks paid off, because at the center of it- this story is a bleak journey with poor motivations and no real message or heart. The love and theme of parenting in the first game is what made it good- this game doesn’t have anything meaningful to say. It can’t decide on a single message, and that is the worst problem of them all. Many people have argued whether they love or hate playing as Abby. I personally liked it, and I thought that Lev and Yara were great characters that I desperately wish I could have seen more of. The seraphites are so interesting, and both them and the WLF make a lot of sense. Their different ways of living were obviously thought out with extreme care. It’s just a shame that the characters were not treated as well as the environments, tech, gameplay, and sound- which are all fantastic. There are some big pacing issues, with both gameplay and story. Many sequences could have been cut out, and huge, HUGE parts of the story could have been replaced or re-arranged. The timing and location of Joel’s death made it so that flashbacks were dispersed throughout the story in a way that felt disconnected and strange. Despite great performances, it was hard to get really invested or emotional in Joel and Ellie, except for a few key moments. It shouldn’t be hard to invest in them, but the story structure and the heartlessness was fighting.

The messages of saving the person you love at any cost could have been pushed further. If Joel and Ellie went on a trip to avenge Tommy’s death, that could have allowed these two characters to work out their conflict with what Joel did to save Ellie all those years ago. Joel would have been in-character to tunnel-vision in on revenge, while Ellie would be the one to realize that it was pointless, and it wouldn’t make either of them happier. Perhaps if something then happened to Joel, the story could revolve around Ellie’s guilt and sadness in a more meaningful way. There is much, much more that I can talk about here, but I’ll just cut short and say that there would be many ways to tie in the different factions, Abby, lev and Yara into this game. Countless ways to make them more interesting and relevant to Ellie’s journey. The gameplay adds a lot of new elements to it, that I feel really enhance things. There are some hits and some misses, but boy- the hits are REALLY spectacular. The new enemy types and boss fights (especially the one main one) are more amazing than I could have even imagined. There are many good things to say about the beauty and amazing details of this world. Overall, this game is a bloated, disconnected, meaningless mess. But it sure does look beautiful, and it plays extremely well. I can’t hell but feel like the confidence that Neil Duckmann has had regarding this game must mean that he is an ego-driven writer who needed someone like Bruce Straley to level him out. He’s been a personal hero of mine for years, but he’s lost my faith in him. He told fans to trust naughty dog, but I’ve lost that trust in his writing. I’m not sure how Halley Gross contributed exactly, but she surely didn’t do enough to save the story. I’m extremely sad and disappointed that this wasn’t the masterpiece that I was hoping it would be.

First installment was almost perfect in case of visuals, story etc. and the part 2 is also pretending to be as good as it's prequel except one thing: the story. Some narrative decisions were totally wrong for example how can you kill Joel that everybody loved with the golf club and force the audience to play as the character who did it?! For ten hours! I really liked the game, they improved mechanics, visuals and they,ve added some rpg elements like the half open Seattle area in the beginning of the game. It really looks like the next generation game but the story , LGBT propaganda and weird ending brings down the rating to 7/10. Hope you don't make the next game about Abby Naughty Dog. And my god it was so satisfying to be stealthy in this game. Expand

Gameplay: 7.5/10 the gameplay doesn’t take many risks and made slight improvements on the original gameplay, which doesn’t wow me, but it didn’t make the the game feel bad to play.

First half of the story: 8/10 Joel’s death wasn’t done well, but it did feel like it had to happen for the purpose of the story, so I was somewhat okay with it. I enjoyed Ellie’s arc, even though I thought she would have a stronger stomach, for what she’d have to do to Nora. Overall, first half was pretty good besides Joel’s death.

Second half of the story: 2.5/10: I really wanted to like what they did with Abby, but just couldn’t. It was really hard to become attached to her character. I can appreciate what Naughty Dog was attempting to do, but it fell really flat. The ending: 0/10 the ending was so bad. It made sense for neither of the characters and just left me angry at the writing rather than reflective.

Overall: 7/10 I am a sucker for great visuals, so that’s the main reason I’m higher on this game than most other people. The story, however, is so bad during the latter half that I can’t give it a score any higher than this.

So here is my honest thoughts about this game. No this game is not an 3 out of 10, but it also is not a 10 out of 10, and here is why. Alot of people like to say this game looks great, but I think the faces look weird and out of place, especially compared to Uncharted 4, I do not know what it is, but I think it might be the mouths are too big. Sound is really good. Gameplay is the same as Last of Us, it has not really changed much which can be seen as a good thing or bad thing depending what you think. To me 7 years in the making and if the gameplay does not really have something new, then you might have to reevaluate what you used your time on. I mean Uncharted 4 had alot of new things, and they used less time to make it.

Story, so yeah the writing is really bad, and I mean the dialog. Whoever wrote this need to learn how to write dialog, every female character feels like it was written by a man that has no idea how women act or react in real life. And I am one of those guys who rolls his eyes when I hear that sentence by other people, but here it is so obvious it is kinda crazy. These characters feel like they are a parody or a fantasy version of some guy inner dreams on how women should be, and it shows.
The story had a very weird structure, for some it might be a good thing and for others it might be good, for me this story structure has been done before better so it really is not that big of a deal. The core story itself on the other hand has too many plot holes, as well as it feels fake, simply because the characters feel too fake to even exist.
This game forgets how real human beings really act, and also how young people behave in real life and is in my opinion a work of fiction in both reality and humanity. The gameplay is repetitive and it shows after hours. In my opinion this game is 5 out of 10.

When I played as the main antagonist it just didn't feel right I guess you could say and the message just didn't sit well. Abby was kind of contradicting herself at points also. Overall just graphics were amazing and so was the gameplay had a lot of fun playing through it. Now the ending was I have no idea just so many questions and the fact that Ellie lost so many things close to her and everyone basically loses. I get the message you could say that life isn't fair nothing goes as planned but I thought it could of been planned a lot better. Plus all the questions I had where are Dina and JJ? Is Ellie going back to Jackson? Are they still together? Will Ellie still have nightmares? I just hope that this isn't the end of our journey with Ellie and I hope they can make another game of this awesome franchise and they use this as a learning experience and improved. Expand

The story has many moments where it doesn't make sense and it was too manipulative and forced among the players. They failed to gain interest from the players at a lot of the parts. Even with an open-minded mindset, I still struggled to enjoy the game and understand the true purpose of the story. While I can understand the themes and messages through watching videos and reading comments on reddit, it just shows how they failed as a story-teller to effectively deliver. They made the story way too depressing to gain support from fans. While as a story it might not be the worst, but since it is a video game, something that is supposed to be enjoyed, it ignores the purpose.

If the story was better, this game might have gotten an 8 at the lowest. It is very disappointing and shameful that the potential was wasted. Hopefully Naughty Dog learns from this mistake.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So here it goes. Now I do feel as if this game is getting a lot of hate and some of it is for good reason. But, instead of following the crowd I gave this game a shot myself. To start off the game, let’s be honest, it starts off very slow until Joel’s brutal murder. Now I feel as if Joel’s death was inevitable in a sequel as who would get away with killing an entire organization. However, I feel like his death in this game was a bit forced in order to create this very bland revenge plot that exists in this game. He was solely put in the game to act as the main reason Ellie goes on her quest for revenge. I feel let down by this as a fan of the first game, Joel and Ellie’s relationship was a key factor to the reason why the first game was so special. I just wish Joel’s death had more meaning to a story that was developed off of him.

Now that his death it out of the way. The portion where we play as Ellie, I actually really enjoyed. I wanted to hunt down everyone that was involved to avenge Joel’s death and it felt as if the story was going in the right direction. Fighting the WLF and the Scars were great and the dialogue between Dina and Ellie did bring some light to an extremely dark game. Needless to say when I was playing as Ellie the game felt like a true sequel, the flashbacks with Joel and Tommy were my favorite part about the game as it revealed the truth behind how Ellie found out what happened in Salt Lake (this was the whole reason I wanted the sequel). However, in Naughty Dog fashion, I am surprised and flipped upside down.

The portion where we switch to Abby I feel is so forced to push a political agenda. They want to give you a backstory full of sorrow to make you feel bad for the character when in reality, you started off her existence bashing the face of the franchises head in with a golf club so I truly will never sympathize with this character ever. So this was a big failure here. I had no care at all about Lev and Yara, it felt like I was playing a different game with Abby and I found myself almost speed running through sections just to get them over with. The basis of my review is the game feels in its true form when playing as Ellie. However, when we drift off to play a fridge **** for 8 hours I truly lost interest in continuing the game. Druckmann said in an interview years ago that the story will always be about Joel and Ellie. So it amazes me how the story would go in this direction. I did not care for any segments with Abby, the writers introduced me to the character with a permanent vile taste in my mouth that will never be removed. Gameplay and graphics were a true masterpiece. They really pushed the bar with this game. I couldn’t believe what my original fat ps4 was producing on to my monitor. Even though it sounded like a jet engine was constantly by my side. It just sucks that a game had to be ruined by poor character development.

    Positives: Gameplay and graphics 10/10

Ellie’s portion and flashbacks gave me a true last of us sequel I was hoping for as it gave me closure to how Ellie found out the truth about the events from the first game.

    Negatives:

Wish Joel’s death meant something more then just a fuel for a revenge plot.

Abby’s or fridge ****es 8-10 hour long snooze fest felt like filler, and I found my self speed running through sections. Not to mention I suicided while playing her a comedically absurd amount of times.

Story: 5/10 Gameplay and graphics: 10/10 So an overall of 7/10 fits it for me.

In conclusion the game barely fills the role of a sequel through 2 hours of sequences with Joel. But the lack of the relationship between Ellie and Joel really hold back the true potential this game could of had. Abby is a failure and if it wasn’t for her I would have no problem giving this game a 10/10. It just wasn’t what I envisioned a true sequel to be, and it left me and many fans truly dissapointed.

So I’ll put this out there for anyone who comes across this. (I finished it a couple days ago and really got to sit and think it over before writing this)

The story itself was pretty disappointing particularly during the latter part of this game. There’s new characters/groups that all don’t get enough depth to them which I found unfortunate and wasn’t able to form attachment like I did to Henry and Sam, and any supposed “shock” moments already felt expected. The build-up of the story, for me, was beautiful until it fell flat during the latter half of the game where, at some points, the gameplay feels dry and you have to battle your own boredom to continue playing through the story. Of course, that’s not to say that Naughty Dog didn’t make this story look visually stunning the entire time. I think the art direction here really complimented the narrative scenes.

In general though, I think people who want, or are curious, to play this game should. The art, sound, and even the gameplay were the best parts of this game. I may not have enjoyed the story, but there’s plenty of encounters I find to have replayability value with the new weapons and new enemies. Story: 4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main problem with this game is the STORY.
Like many of us here it was told in a very disorganized and unsatisfying way, hence the ending not having a resolution. I was expecting to have more Ellie and more Joel adventures throughout the game (the reason we fell in love with the game in the first place) but those expectations get destroyed after the first hour playing sadly.

My biggest concern though is Abby. Playing as Abby was like playing a DLC from the game.
Here's why: I was enjoying the story when it was Ellie getting revenge, as any TLOU fan we all thought we'd play Ellie for the whole game fine by me, but then when it later transitions to you now playing as Abby half the game i started caring less and less. There was just no backstory or anything to make you want to play her, all you really know is that she killed Joel so half the game your dreading playing as Abby/The bad guy and just unpatiently waiting for it to switch back to playing as Ellie. I mean we waited a lot of years to play again as Ellie and Joel so to have the story just make us play a different character right away didnt feel right. It just felt like it would have been best to have the whole Abby gameplay as a DLC in my opinion and to have the hours played as Abby be INSTEAD an extension of Ellie finding the ones involved of Joel's death and having Ellie instead developing a relationship with Lev and Yara continuing the adventure there on out for her revenge at Abby in the end. I would have loved that route instead.

Honestly It just felt like this "Part 2" could have been better if it was placed in a Last of Us Part 3. The story should have been slowly building up for us to know the characters and have it transitioning to the current story as it is right now.

So did this game feel like 7 years of hard work? Hell ya. Scenery and graphic wise absolutely beautiful. Game play still satisfying and fun as always. The adventure you get playing the game surely is something to reflect on when you beat it.
7 years worth the wait though? Story wise probably not.

If your a TLOU fan and dont know to get the game despite all these reviews and all, Id say get the game, try it out for yourself and see how YOU feel about it in the end. You'll still have fun regardless playing.

This game is one of its kind, one of the greatest game ever created, truly unique, brutal, and dark. Don't be influenced by the review bombs of user reviews, not all of them owns a copy of the game. That said i hope metacritic get some or be integrated with playstation, having an API to show real owners.

a great game, but it makes me depressed, I don’t agree with the ending, there should be a continuation and completion of the plot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us: Part 2 wasn’t a terrible game in any way shape or form, under any other title it would be seen as a great game. But the fact that the initial game was so great and the standards were so high for a sequel, it somehow seemed destined to fail. It was one of the most beautiful games I’ve played. The attention to detail of the characters and the feels of the areas you explore are immensely pleasing. The core visual of the game could be mistaken for cutscenes at points. I can tell the effort put into the game visually and gameplay wise were very thorough and it showed. Where the game kind of lost me was the storyline and the feelings the game left me with. When I ended the game I set down my controller and I didn’t feel positive, I didn’t feel as if I completed a great triumph or just had an unforgettable experience with the game. It left me in regret. I wish I hadn’t played the game. A lot of the story seems out of place. There are flashbacks in random points that either interrupt the story or don’t give anything really meaningful, (though the flashbacks with Joel were very beautiful and sweet to play through). The characters had no meaning to me because they were introduced and were killed before we got to know them, and they are either 1)later revealed to be a good person and we should feel guilty for it (I never felt guilty) or 2) were not touched on at all for the rest of the game. The plot was very simple minded. We all would want to get revenge in a situation Ellie was put in obviously but I feel like it could’ve taken a much better and more controversial approach, where it could leave you wondering if you made the right decision or not. I didn’t mind Joel’s death, in fact I think it needed to happen, but the revenge plot just made the story seem one-dimensional. Additionally, a lot of the points I felt bored with the repetitious gameplay and it didn’t feel like anything new or dangerous was around the corner. Lastly, the whole zombie/ infected outbreak was kind of abandoned. Not a single important person was bit or infected which gave me the impression that they kind of got rid of the outbreak being a point to drive/ break the story. It felt wrong in that sense. In conclusion, The Last of Us: Part 2 is a ‘good’ game but the fact that it was a sequel to one of the best games to have graced our screens made it feel pretty poorly thought out and executed. I didn’t wait 7 years to play a ‘good’ game after I had played an unforgettable experience. It, in all honesty, left me with a sick taste in my mouth and makes me not want to touch another story driven game for a long while because I’m afraid to be left with the same taste Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My actual rating would be a 7.5, but I’ll round down due to my overwhelming sense of disappointment in this game. Mechanically this game is flawless. The graphics are beautiful and one of the best I’ve seen and played. I commend Naughty Dog for improving a combat/stealth system that felt perfect already. I also believe the level design and voice acting are big strengths as well. However, while these things were great in the The Last of Us, the narrative and writing is what makes that game one of the greatest of all time. The Last of Us Part 2 falls very short in those regards. There are far too many coincidences in the story; Abby stumbling upon Joel and Tommy, Ellie losing her map out of her closed backpack for Abby to find, someone magically coming from California who saw Abby. These are a few instances of the lazy writing that is prevalent in this game, something I never would’ve guessed I’d be saying about a Last of Us game. Character motivations aren’t clear, and new characters are so poorly written and forced upon the gamer. They give us no reason to care about Jesse, Dina, Abby, and/or any of Abby’s friends. This game also lacks the moral ambiguity that it’s esteemed predecessor had. This game paints everything as good or bad, and tries to teach a lesson we already knew and was done much better in other media, that murder is wrong and revenge leads to more violence. However the biggest sin in this game for me is the Abby section. In this 25 hour game, you play close to half of it as Abby. Including a near 11 hour stretch in the middle of the game while being left on a cliffhanger. I don’t understand why Naughty Dog thought we would go for that. Not one person wanted to play as anyone other than Ellie or Joel before this game was released, and they damn sure didn’t want to play as Abby after we see what she does to Joel. Just an idea, if you want people to care about a character, don’t have her brutally murder one of the most beloved video game characters of all time in the first 3 hours of the game. That was a terrible decision, and is pretty indefensible. Overall this is an amazing game mechanically, but The Last of Us Part 2 needs more than that to stand up the the first installment. What made the first game have such lasting impact is exactly what is missing from the second game. I am seriously disappointed with this game, and it has dashed my excitement for future games in this franchise. Hopefully they can right the ship in the future, but I don’t have much hope for that. After hardcore fans waited a long development period for the sequel most will be disappointed. The narrative writers, Druckman and Halley Gross set out on something new and it flopped unspectacularly. It’s a depressing, dragging video game that leaves you wanting to end much sooner than it does even after a couple of hours in. There was so much potential here to build off the legendary story telling of part I and in its own attempt to justify the revenge plot ends up trying to convince itself this is what it’s meant to be. The magic is gone and we’re left in a world where there is no hope, no reasoning, no light. You are left with a sour, unsweet taste of forcing a narrative that’s a complete disconnect from the prequel. As has been said before at least we have the first game and we can all use our imaginations to come up with a better succession to what we’ve experienced. Part II is a dark void of an alternative universe. Nothing is familiar here. Expand

The SJW and LGBT stuff makes the game feel really artificial and all the cut scenes just look like a cheap Netflix show. There are 3 things I really liked about this game. First the graphics oh my god that game looks gorgeous, another thing is that the game works. I didn't get any bugs and it just played really well. And last but not least the soundtrack is amazing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start this off by saying that I wanted to like this game. I was anticipating its release for the longest time. When it was postponed the second time, I was beyond sad. And when we got a new date, I was so damn happy. I wouldn't shut up about it when speaking to my friends, I kept saying that it would be the greatest game ever made by any company. When I got my hands on it, I was terrified that bad things would happen. I was unaware at the start that we would be lied to by the developers. How were we lied to, you ask? Well, in the trailers we were led to believe that we would be on an adventure with Joel again after all of the years of waiting. We would be getting revenge together for a common disturbance that needed to be rectified. But no, instead of Joel and Ellie speaking in the present, we only see flashbacks. In the teaser trailer, Joel grabs Ellie from behind and when she asks what he's doing here, he says "You think I'd let you do this on your own?" This is one of the main reasons I bought the game in the first place. After his death, we see this same scene again except Jesse is the one grabbing her from behind and saying the SAME EXACT LINE that Joel did in the teaser. In the "screenshots" released, Joel and Ellie's present models were used to make us think we'd be on an adventure with him again. But no, in the game the scenes were just flashbacks. What they did to deceive us, in my opinion, is unfair and heartbreaking. I feel utterly betrayed.

The story itself is built horribly, making us sympathize with the one who killed Joel. They even force us to play as her. IF we didn't have to play as her, if we had to find her and kill her, the game would've received a way different rating. The story still wouldn't be good, as I personally would've done Joel's death way different. Abby's character and motive to hurt Joel would've been more demented, instead of killing him.. kill someone he loves in retaliation. Say... Tommy. His character at the end of the game was a broken man anyway. If Jackson ever got compromised, he'd surely die with that horrible limp and impaired vision.

Ellie's decision to let Abby go in the first place is completely pointless. Many love to raise the argument that she did it because "revenge isn't the answer". Well, if that's the case, how do you justify what Abby did? She murdered Joel. Plain and simple. Joel did what he did out of love for Ellie, and Abby did what she did out of love for her own father. Why is it bad that Ellie would want the same thing?

"I'm gonna find . . . and I'm gonna kill . . . EVERY. LAST. ONE OF THEM. Except for the one who killed my father figure. She gets to live!"

Makes absolutely no sense to me.

    Here's my final thoughts:

If you leave a character with less than they started with, or with nothing; then you went absolutely nowhere. You took one step forwards, then two steps back. Ellie lost Joel, her stable relationship with Tommy, Dina and the baby, and her ability to play guitar(which was her only way that she could feel connected to Joel). Having her walk off into the woods makes me thing that Naughty Dog is considering a third game, and I hope they see this.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE A THIRD. Your writers have already destroyed this story.

To the actors, I have nothing against you. I'm assuming you had no say in anything.

Now that we got that out of the way and hopefully the fire will stop soon...
Time for the review. and I will be quick but honest about my opinion about it since too many have already reviewed it.

What are the goods in the game?
The graphics, first and foremost. Breathtaking! No complains here.
The cinema, the way characters acting, the animations, they're almost flawless (still not perfect).
The sound effects are exactly what you expect. Onpoint and satisfying.

    What's in the mixed thoughts?
The writing. There's room for a lot of improvments, I was not amused. it's pretty average. A well made writing as an example is the witcher which made me giggle and laugh out loud many times. Little did I felt anything based on the writing of Tlou2 alone.
The gameplay, the Fun. It's really mixed here. Some got bored really quick, others said it was fun and entertaining. In my opinion, It's fine at best and could have had some improvements, deleting animations in the workshops to stop wasting time for example, real is fine, too real is bad for gaming and time wasting, no one really has time to see someone cleans hisher gun everytime you go adjust the gun. Let's be real here, this is not the reason why you're playing the game...

What's the bad in this game?
    The story.
I don't like it, not one bit. It's more than just the recent "events" that you definetely will come across. It's just a revenge plot...It's generic, the way they executed it is pretty boring and lazy.
A child can write a revenge story, almost anybody can write a revenge narrative and in my opinion and in all honesty, also can write a better and more satisfying story for both sides of the spectrum.
It's also filled with holes, holes that shouldn't have been made on purpose. The ending is unsatisfying. They could have added multiple endings, they had 7 years to do so, but they decided not to do so...Interesting...really interesting...I wonder what was more important to them during all these 7 years...The story? Or the graphics...the cinema...the movie like feeling...
The replayability - Well, we all can guess about that...

i want to add some important things that I think should be addressed as well cause little has been talked about it, and I will include this in my review.
First, crunch culture. People crunched their butt out to make this game, risking their lives in bad conditions to provide a product. if any of you, customers, or 'wallets' have no feelings for them or reconsider, "maybe the company crunches them too much, maybe they shouldn't work so hard to the point where it's health risky" If none of you even thinks about these people, you are pathetic, undeserving beings and should be ashamed to yourselves!
No one should make a game at the expense of their health.

Second. The DMCA strikes. I saw what you did Naughty Dog, Neil. A lot of it was unjustified and you should be ashamed of yourselves! A pathetic management with pathetic and boring ideologies.

The final review after summing it all up is sligthly above average. 6/10
It's an average and sligthly average at best.
You may not like it from both sides, if so, replay the game and read my review again. There are better games that you can play the will play with your emotion strings to heart and not in a cheap way.
Good examples are 'Nier Automata' and 'Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice'. Try these for a change if haven't done that yet...

Simply put: We were expecting an amazing story and got a really bad story.

Graphically the game is one of the most appealing in the PS4. The animations are smooth and the integration with cutscenes is also phenomenal. The sound mixing is also perfect. I didn't found any bug or glitch in my playthrough.

The main problem is the story:

The first game had great graphics and an amazingly strong story: it was fairly predictable and simple in the end but they managed to delivered us some unforgettable moments between the characters and the harsh reality of a post-apocalyptic world. There was no plot-holes nor moments where any action by the characters wasn't justified.

In Part II, they forgot all of it. Too many unjustified actions by the main characters: they behave very differently compared to the first game, even "experienced" characters that were present in the first game seem to know nothing about how the Last of Us world works (rational vs emotional). Lots of plot-holes and the dangers presented in the post-apocalyptic world sometimes seem that they don't exist.

If I had to explain the story to someone that never heard of Last of Us I would say that the story is " a college project where 5 people wrote each part and in the end they tried to glue everything together".

Also it makes no sense for us to play at least 10 hours as the "villain" and even fight the main-character. I understood why: they wanted us to form a connection with the villain and give us the backstory and his/hers motivation. But the "villain" is a rigid and unempathetic character. Too stiff and afraid of everything. Like many people I was unable to have any affection.

It was so bad. It's like you picking up your favorite team in FIFA and the game forces you to play against it.

Also the gameplay is 75% equal to the first game. The default difficulty is too easy imo. You'll get bored fast especially if you played the first game

However, parts of the story were lacking to me and certain parts just seem tedious because of the constant flashbacks from two different characters. Believe it or not I went into this game spoiler free and had no idea of what was going to happen. I will say that during the confrontation between Abby and Ellie, I felt pretty angry that I had to play as Abby and I assumed the worst. I would just look away from the screen and tap the square button just forcing the inevitable. Surprisingly they didnt kill Ellie off there and dragged on. At the end they decide not to complete the quest that the entire game leads up to! Leaving the fan base empty handed on theyre blood thirst for revenge. 5 out of 10 from me. I expected different! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although I haven't played the game yet, but judging from the playthrough on youtube, I think this game is not bad but not good either. I like where they're trying to go with the story with the whole revenge plot but it could've been a lot better than this. The first game ended with joel's lie to Ellie and Joel's action in the end. The second game is the consequences of Joel's action in the last game. Joel's death could've been done way better than it did. I think playing as Abby for 12 hours was so unnecessary. After what Abby did to Joel, they made Abby like one of the most hated video game character of all time. So no matter what she did in the story, nothing will ever change our mind on her. In the end Ellie goes head on with Abby, she then has flashes of Joel then decided to spare Abby after she bit her fingers, we don't like that. Then Ellie goes back home, she can't play the guitar then roll credits. Here's what I think about the ending. Ellie sparing Abby in the end was a huge mistake, then what was it all for, Ellie fought her way to this point for nothing. Although the game was trying to teach us a lesson, revenge never ends well for anyone, Ellie could've lived a happy life with Dina and JJ. But instead, she went on to hunt for Abby. After she went back home, Dina left her and now she's all alone. I kinda liked how it ended but hated it at the same time, so I have mixed feelings towards this game, it's good but it's so bad at the same time. The graphics, facial animation, dialogue was on point. Definitely stunning and one of the most beautiful graphics I've ever seen in a video game. But Uncharted 4 was a bit better. Attention to detail was amazing, and the references was fantastic. So in conclusion, this game was alright, could've been alot better, the story was not good and not bad it was whatever but it was a disappointment for alot of people, it did not exceed my expectations and many other fans but for me it was whatever. I know everyone is important and every lives matters because of the self-interest but it is not a excuse to make a main character dead in the sudden way to serve the idea of the cost of the revenge cycle. People usually plays games for escaping reality to gain something that they can never have in real life, for example happiness and joy, but not frustration or confuse. I don't need to be told that revenge is bad or eye for an eye makes the whole world blinds. I think the reason most of the player bought this game is seeing the character development after the last game. And yet they wrote Joel to be dead to show there are two sides of a coins(events). The game play and visual didn't save the game from the fall of expectation. Misleading trailer is a sin of the Naughty Dogs Company. THEY are successful to make people feel Joel will take place in this game but he didn't. Naughty Dog made a huge mistake on telling the story, and departed from some of the ex-employee.:( Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of the most mixed feelings review I will ever write in my life and also the saddest.

I had great expectations for TLOU 2, we all had, and after playing it I felt like it was a good game but there was something off. After reading many reviews, opinions and facts about the game, my mindset changed.

First of all, failing to maintain character. Not in living hell Joel would trust a large group of strangers out of nowhere, standing in the middle of a room surrounded by said group and even going out to say his name. This is unacceptable, that's not Joel and if ND wanted Joel dead then they should have spent more time thinking on how they could create this death into the game, it's just a lack of creativity or maybe they're just lazy when it comes to killing on of the most beloved character of the entire gaming culture.

In second we need to talk about Abby, you can call me homophobic or whatever you want but her looks feel too forced, the character development feels forced and ND tried it's best efforts to make us like her. In the end she becomes the thing she swore to destroy, she becomes kinda like Joel considering her actions towards the end but obviously we won't like her because she killed the character we LOVED and this is a very important aspect. To clarify, I accept Joel's death but like this makes it hard for a person to even enjoy the game since every time we see Joel sadness takes over us even during that super cute scene in Ellie's birthday.

Next point, Ellie and Tommy. Ellie is an amazing character, love her from the bottom of my heart and after everything she went through it doesn't make sense her leaving Abby alive. ND makes the game in a way so that you see Ellie and Joel as the bad guys but when you weigh the character's actions Abby and her father aren't that better if not worse than Joel, I'll talk about this later. Now Tommy feels like he was under-used, low amount of screen time when in Joel's absence he could have been the one to save the game's story and his high moment was when he killed Manny, too bad we were playing as Abby for the last 5 hours though and too bad he didn't get to hit her too. Only Tommy stood true to his word when my expectation was to be Ellie the one who would carry the vengeance until the end. Just look at RDR2 revenge type of story, it's a much better one and if in the end Micah would have been forgiven people would be pissed just like people are pissed with TLOU 2.

Back to Abby's father, since in The Last of Us' universe the infection is fungi based a vaccine is the dumbest of ideas. A vaccine will only prevent people from getting infected and not save the infected ones, also they can still die if a bite injury is too severe. The first thing you would do with Ellie would be taking a bit of her blood and study her white cells to see what was different on her immune system that that was able to combat the infection. After that you could possibly develop a medicine to fight the fungus and help people before they turn into a runner. This seems a much better option than killing an unconscious 14 year old girl without her consent. This also means, Joel's decision in the end of the first game doesn't mean anything, in fact he might have saved the world by keeping Ellie alive.

We need to admit, Neil Druckmann messed it all up and failed to deliver the game the people who waited 7 years wanted so much. I have depression (according to professionals, I don't think so) and I looked at this game as my 2020 savior and well it just made my year worse because the game is quite literally a depressing deception.

    5/5 - Graphics, Detail, Mechanics & Gameplay
    2/5 - Story

Thank you for reading my review and I hope I convinced you why this is both the best and the worse game of the PS4.

EDIT: Forgot to add that it's kinda sad the only new character that was well developed (minimally) got killed by Abby too, this character being Jesse. Makes me wanna cry so hard.

First off, there were way too many times where the gameplay just felt like a chore, making me not really want to sit down and continue playing. The story didn't captivate me enough for me to want to continue playing for long periods as I have with other games. There were some weird themes in there and some things that just felt unnecessary. I definitely did not care to play as Abby, I wanted her dead from the beginning and hated playing as her. I did feel bad for her though, when we saw Owen and Mel dead from her point of view. But again, nothing that intense. Overall, decent game, but not even close to as good as the first one. Would definitely not sit through and play it a second time Expand

The graphics and gameplay are amazing don’t get me wrong but no one bought this game for that reason. On top of this the one of the beloved main characters is killed off within 2 hours of gameplay just to rush and push the story along. Secondly the order and directing is so off you play multiple flash backs in the game I feel that it could of been a tolerable game if you started off with these and play through to the ending. In no regard is the game trash, but compared to TLOU it’s a **** show and was a huge middle finger to fans of the first Expand

    + Sonidos
    + Música
    + World Building

    Contras
    - Historia (el final más que nada)
    - Relleno (cinemáticas y capítulos nada interesantes)
    - Narrativa

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. No me jodáis. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely amazing gameplay and visuals but I don’t agree with how the characters were treated in this game, so much wasted potential.

Killing Joel had to happen in this game but the way it was done was terrible. A veteran survivor of over 20+ years just causally walking into a trap like that really left a sour taste in my mouth early on.

Also the marketing of this game really led gamers to believe it would be a Joel and Ellie adventure when in the end Joel was only present briefly, I don’t think it’s fair for a company to mid lead people like that. Forcing players to spend a large majority of the game playing as Abby the woman who literally beat and tortured Joel to death was a terrible idea. I spent most of her 7/10 hours of game time just bored and not sympathetic to her in any way, then the fight scene where the game makes you attack Ellie a beloved character who you actually empathise with and beat her to a pulp was a joke.

Finally the ending of the game was so anti climatic. I was so excited to play out Ellie and Abbys last fight and finally get revenge on Joels killer then she just lets her go. After Ellie has killed maybe 100+ people to get to this woman it just makes absolutely no sense for her to forgive her at the end. I will do a new game+ at some point but I absolutely will be skipping all of the Abby sections on my next play through, It could have been an actual masterpiece but Naughty Dog really dropped the ball on this game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
