Part II nails a number of things that make most games great. The controls feel incredibly tight and fluid. The presentation is remarkable, and will likely end up being the best of this console generation. The voice acting and motion capture is top-notch, as we've come to expect from Naughty Dog over the past decade. Yet despite all of this, I can never see myself replaying it. In fact, I would struggle to recommend this game to anyone; especially not fans of the original game.

In many ways, the Last of Us Part II falls into the same mistakes that made The Last Jedi reviled by most fans of that franchise. In an attempt to be subversive, Naughty Dog loses sight of what made the first game so universally loved by critics AND fans. In an attempt to be poignant, they just come off seeming pretentious.

To make matters worse, the latter half of the game amounts to what is essentially an aimless side-quest, with the only motivation to push through coming from the promise of a pay-off in the finale which never comes.

Part II is a visually stunning game, but when the glitter wears off, all we're left with is a story for masochists who enjoy being taught a lesson they already know.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing through the entire game I can safely say that this is one of the darkest and depressing games I have ever played. Let me break down my thoughts about this game in individual categories as a huge Last Of Us fan.

Graphics 10/10: I don't think anyone will argue that this game looks like a work of art. One of if not the best looking PS4 games we have ever seen. No complaints here.

Gameplay 9/10: The game runs and plays exceptionally well. I beat the game on the hardest setting and the last few hours of the game was a real test of ammo conservation and stealth. I loved the little details like each npc you kill in the game shouting their friends name after you kill them. The hand to hand combat also is superb all your punches or slicing and dicing feels extremely organic and real Naughty Dog really built on the first game and delivered in this category as well.

Story 4/10: Now this is where some controversy may set in. Let me first start off by saying I completely understand what the developers were going for and if you view this game as a tragedy you really can appreciate the twisted and dark nature this game is all about. HOWEVER with that being said this comes as the expense of the original Last Of Us cast that we have all come to know and love. Obviously (SPOILER WARNING HERE ON OUT.)

I really enjoyed the relationship between Ellie and Dina the beginning of the game plays out really well help build that relationship (THE REASON I DIDN'T LIKE THE STORY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH LGTBQ REPRESENTATION). Of course this all gets demolished by the end of the game but we will get to that later.

The problems with the game begins only a few hours in when Joel, who at this point in the story is a shell of his former self after he has told Ellie about what really happened in the end of the Last of Us 1. Along with Tommy find Abby, a unknown strange survivor we just met and rescue her. They flea back to Abby and companies hideout because of the massive hoard of infected chasing them. Once inside the hideout Tommy and Joel just willingly give up their full names and location of their hideout to these complete strangers they just met. This moment effectively makes Joel and Tommy look like total idiots and not only goes against their beliefs of not trusting anyone because (they're you know wanted men and such) but ultimately is the reason for Joels downfall as he is killed. Not only this but Joel is killed so violently that you just want to play as Ellie and rip Abbys head off.

At this point in the story it goes back to Ellie and Dina going around trying to find clues about Abbys location which I really enjoyed! It showed how Ellie and Dina has great chemistry and they complimented one another really well. Than everything goes down the drain after about the halfway point of the game.

The game completely changes focus from our two protagonists and now shifts solely on Abby yes the same Abby who viciously beat and murdered Joel one of the most loved characters in the franchise. Now had Abby's story happened prior to the events of Joels death this could of worked SO MUCH BETTER. Instead the game asks you to forgive and forget what happened to Joel because Joel killed Abbys father at the hospital (Despite Joel killing hundreds of people prior to this that one person really mattered they try and convince the player) This doesn't work at all because of how out of order the pieces are you already hate Abby and they expect you to take her side over Ellies. There is a clear favorite here in the fans eyes and it's Ellies not Abby. Did anyone actually enjoy beating Ellies face in at the theater I would love to know?

Finally the ending... oh boy. Ellie so overcome with grief and regret with the tragic loss of Joel during a time in which Ellie was just starting to forgive Joel for lying to her that she risks destroying her family she has made with Dina that she goes out on one final request for vengeance (which the game has been all about up to this point) Both Abby and Ellie have killed several other characters in the game like Jesse, Owen, Mel, Tommy (Yes I know he didn't die but he should be dead) ect. just to get to one another. Ellie leaves Dina and their home finds Abby and Lev (Lev is a great character just sadly introduced with Abby who everyone already hates) Ellie fights Abby one final time and right as she is about to kill her lets her go... Just says you know what screw it not worth it despite losing literally everything she has ever had and I do mean everything.

This kind of finale satisfies nobody. Abby sales off having lost her father, friends and lover. While Ellie loses the same than credits role. Now one can argue that the whole final act is what they intended and wanted to show how much each character lost with zero gain but IF that is the case than we needed to care about Abbys character which sadly I didn't at all. Wish I could write more but I'm out of characters =(

If you like a tunnel games where you go from point A to point B for 30 hours with no story pay off then this game is for you, but I'd wait couple of days to get a second hand copy for cheap. If the game wasn't so much story focused then it would get higher score for me, but since it is so story focused, and the story is the selling point of the game, it can not be ignored.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics and gameplay are approved. Gameplay wise there not a lot to complain about but the horseback riding can be glitchy when going in between objects. And the switching menu can feel very slow when going from gun to heath pack or other objects. Now the biggest problem of the game the story. I'm ok with Joel getting killed off but I don't like the way the did it, and it don't really feel like it need to happen. And now Abby, I don't like or want to play this character. When you play as Abby you kill Joel, Jesse, and almost kill Tommy, Ellie, and Dina. The attempt to humanize Abby fall flat on me I don't care about her. But I did like Yara and Lev. In all honesty if you leave Abby in the game still as the main villain but take out all her playable story and you still can find out why she killed Joel/ maybe change the way she killed him. And put all the time they put on Abby toward Ellie and Dina relationship and their journey to Seattle, and maybe you can also try to put Yara and Lev stroy in there as well. It would have been a better story in my opinion. I also have a problem with how Abby find Ellie in her hide out. I don't think Ellie dumb enough to write where she is hiding out on a map. The ending had me disappointed to say the least. I loved the original last of us but hated the ending. I guess I can say I like this ending more but it's still bad, she lost Dina but I don't care to much about their relationship because they didn't really build it up. It's like you really didn't lose anything other than Joel at the end and what happened to Tommy did he go after Abby again or stay home. The game isn't as bad as people are say but it's no where as good as critics are saying. It's a shame this could have been a amazing story/game but they just didn't make the game that they should have. Expand

    Graphics 10/10
    Story 4/10
    Characters 4/10

The way Naughty Dog is handling the critic is by laughing and using slurs and pulling out the homophobic and transphobic card on you if you hate their game. Truly pathetic.

The thing that didn't sit well with me, was that after rescuing Abby, she kills Joel. After some time, you will play as Abby for a whole 10-12 hours. If you hated how she killed a beloved character, this early into the game and how it was executed, your experience playing as her, trying to sympathize with her pain will be atrocious. To me, I had a really bad time

The game's characters are easily forgettable. I was already heavily invested in Joel and Ellie, that none could even hope to match them. Jesse, Manny, Mel, Nora, Owen? Didn't give a second thought about any of them.

You've done better, ND. But taking the piss out on your customers and disregarding their critic because it doesn't suit your little world of happiness and sunshine? Get real.

If you're one that loves a good story, I recommend you avoid this game. They basically flushed the franchise down the drain and mock its community.

    Graphics / Lighting / Effects / Animation -> 9.5 out of 10.0
The graphics are beautiful. The landscape and the surroundings look astonishing. The lighting especially inside of buildings with direct light, indirect light and defuse light is one of the greatest I've ever seen in a video game up until today.
    Sound / Sound effects / Music / Voice Acting -> 9.5 out of 10.0
The sound and the sound effects are on top f.e. the sound of the rainfall is impressive or the sound of the wind howling through the tall grass. Yes, you can actually hear that. The music, the score is beautiful and emotional and adds perfect to the visuals.
The Voice Actors have given their best to make their characters come to live on screen.

    Game play / Mechanics / Controls / AI -> 6.5 out 10.0
The game play and the mechanics haven't changed a lot from the first part and they still feel like 2013 and a bit outdated in 2020. There a more possibilities for modifying the weapons and the abilities of the character you are controlling/playing. But that also means that the flaws of the first part have found there way into the TLuO2. The gun play still feels a little bit clunky and so the spare ammunition is sometimes wasted in a game where every bullet counts. Sometimes the camera positioning isn't quite right, so that suddenly a clicker instantly takes you out unseen and in a stealth section your character may act uncorresponding or in an unintended fashion, because some buttons are tied to different functions simultaniously. Apropos stealth; the enemy AI is sometimes shifting between good to dump like a rock. You can flank nearly every enemy even groups in in a circular motion, so you can kill everyone or everything off from the end of that chain.

Story / Storytelling and Pacing / Characters and Character development -> 1.0 out of 10.0
The problem with TLoU2 is the story and the way it is presented. TLoU1 was a story and character driven game. That was the reason the fans loved that game so much. We played 90 % of that game as Joel and 10 % of the main story as Ellie. Then there was the DLC, which focused more on Ellie and her "coming out" and her relationship to Riley. So the fans of the first game cannot all be homophobic as Neil **** now tries to imply upon the ongoing so called "Review Bombing", which by the way happens in both directions.

The new characters are not introduced in a believable way.
The known characters from TLoU1 act completely out of place -> the way Joel dies. Ellies reaction to being lied at by Joel about Salt Lake City.
The Story is not believable. -> Abby spares Ellie and Tommy on two, different accounts.

They way the story is presented is awful. All the flashbacks are destroying the pacing of the story and the game play as well. Sometimes through all these flashback you even don't know in which timeline you are right now, when you continue to play. These time lapses and flashbacks are also interfering with any character development or introduction in this game, so that every identification or understanding of any of these new characters and there motivation is nearly impossible or not believable. And unfortunately the very good voice acting cannot safe that.

There is no build up in this story to a real climatic moment, only shocking moments of violence, which are also presented in an awful way, so that it seams, you are watching a low budget action- or horror movie.
A movie with a completely unknown cast and the one actor you know has only a minute of screen time, just enough to push the sales, because you can put him in the trailers and in the marketing like Robert Englund's appearences in so many low-budget horror flics.

In addition some of these violent scenes and acts are forced upon the player. The player has no choice, because all this is scripted and even worse, some of this scenes are intended to manipulate the player in the way he sees and feels for these characters. That is a real cheap trick by the way.

The linear, scripted and time lapsed broken story and gameplay is in my opinion a complete failure and is outdated in 2020. Naughty Dog has proven that they are not able to deliver a game in which you as a player have the choice, what you want to expercience. They are only capable of forcing you to play what they want you to play in a linear, restricted fashion.

And I am absolutely sure, if Naughty Dog would have given the player the choice and freedom to play Abby or not, most of the players would have disagreed and skipped this possability, because of the way her character was introduced or “injected” here in this way.

Here is the real Final score -> only 5.0 out of 10.0

I've been a gamer for over half my life and The Last of Us 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. This game is such a radically different departure from what made that game great, and not in a good way.

For one, the narrative is SUPER disjointed. There are time jumps all over the place and we are introduced to many, many new characters that we are supposed to care about, but there is very little to no development whatsoever invested in building these characters up. It's almost as if they are only there to drive the story forward.

Neil and Gross, it seems, have deliberately shoe-horned their own ideologies into this, and it shows. Big time.

Let me say, I do not mind playing as a female character. I don't even mind that the character is homosexual. Fine. But there is a very clear motivation in this game's story (without getting too much into spoilers), to present and almost force, social justice issues. It's uncomfortable, unrealistic, and comes off as straight up silly considering this is supposed to be taking place in a future apocalypse!!!

The game's presentation is really its only redeeming quality. The graphics, sound, gameplay, music, and voice acting are all top notch. However, this is weighed down significantly by the weak narrative and extended gameplay sections that feel forced and bloated.

I honestly do not know how so many critics gave this a glowing 10 out of 10. To me, that is just mind boggling. Clearly, there is a bias and I believe it involves a combination of things- access media (companies wanting to be on good terms with Sony), and the political motivations shared by the overall gaming press that are highly skewed and misrepresentative of gamers as a whole

I am not sure why anyone would want to experience a 25 hour long, nihilistic, black hole of a narrative in the first place, never mind return to it for a second helping.
Which sucks because everything else is so beautifully done in this game. Environments, character animations, combat mechanics and sound design are probably some of the best I have experienced in my past 30 years of gaming.
All of these elements scream for second and third play-through but at this stage I don't think I could stomach replaying the first game. Which speaks volumes, as I have loved going back to it at least once a year since finding out that the video game medium can truly deliver a complex, nuanced narrative on par with books and television.
The Last of Us 2 however, in my opinion, does not deliver anything remotely as complex or thought provoking as the first game.
It is a painful, apathy inducing grind of watching underdeveloped characters getting brutally killed in vivid detail by other characters, who's natures are not so subtlety subverted to deliver a message:

"See here player. All this blood and rage and sadness that we have made you participate in. It really isn't worth it. Revenge is an empty pursuit."

I have gleaned more wisdom from a cat poster than this bizarre experience.

I could not jump on board with what the developers were suggesting where the story was going and they lost me from the beginning. It’s just not believable what they had Ellie doing, trying to justify it by using a really sorry teenage level revenge story. I’m sorry but this game deserves better writing and more evolved game play! The game play is serviceable but I was hoping for a more developed/evolved and matured last of us. The studio only seemed to have added a few new game mechanics including a dodge button, jump button and going prone. They also failed to add any new enemies outside of the “shambler” which is a really lazy one at best. I was really hoping that naughty dog hit this one out of the ball park but sadly they really dropped the ball on this one FOR ME. Maybe my expectations were too high given it took them 7 years but that’s what I expect from AAA studios in 2020. I was really hoping that the narrative would have pulled me in just like the first game did but I could not find it in me to do so. All the characters were acting so out of the ordinary even the new ones didn’t seem to have realistic decision making. I feel like I’m being critical but I have to be given how big the title is and how bad Naughty dog screwed up. They have all the winning elements but they just didn’t put it together correctly. If they just told a more dare I say “generic” story that we all wanted with Ellie and Joel, maybe this would all be different but this is what happens when you take a risk on going woke and fail. It falls flat, especially because the last of us is such a narrative driven game, having a bad story really hiders itself from being anything great. Anyway, i hope they can bounce back with something better or a new IP that is more engaging and fun. This one wasn’t for me. Sorry... Expand

Looks like the devs are just trying to lecture you about how bad hatred and violence is, and nothing else mattered while writing the plot. They would stick to it, even if that meant having every character in the world acting like some sadistic moustache twirling villain. And somehow they thought that would make the story "deep".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In this review I will be as honest as possible. Many people are angry at the game and are giving scores of 1 or 0. Does this game deserve them? Absolutely not. Does this game deserve the snobby false 'woke' reviews from the critics? Absolutely not. This game in my eyes is a classic example, much like Wolfenstein young blood and battle field V of a game which tries to force modern day issues and characters into their games to portray the characters in a positive light. Although nothing wrong with that in the slightest, poor execution of such a forced concept can inherently come back to bite you, this game is exactly that. It spends so long trying to force an emotional connection to the new characters but fails to realise that the characters themselves are not only boring and have a disingenuous back story, they also do not even have a fraction of the appeal of the old characters (Joel and Ellie) in terms of personality, likeability and emotional bond between game character and game player. I honestly felt as though the desire to care even slightly about the new characters was being rammed down my throat with mild back stories and forced interactions. What made the LOU great was arguably its characters its story, the magic of which is completely lost. They tried to take the franchise in a new direction at supersonic pace but sadly crashed face first into a wall.

The game play element of the game is amazing though, despite the criticisms of the story, the game is visually striking. Apart from reusing a lot of generic GTA V looking NPC models which is a serious letdown based on how amazing the rest of the game looks the game itself is arguably single-handedly carried by the environment and map design and appearance. Yes there are elements of the gameplay which are boring, however it really pushes the limits of the old console systems to deliver a visually impressive game despite being run on a dated system. If this game were to have released on the new console right now the visuals may have even carried this game to a 7/10, however here we are. With a broken franchise that tried too hard to drive a story with no legitimate foundation that left me as a player completely unable to connect and justify the actions of the new characters and not at all wanting to see any more of their story.

I decided to finish The Last of Us on hard tonight to sit with a fresh revival of the story before I began the second part, I was left with the bitter-SWEET ending we’ve all grown to adore and love, and started the second with a bit of a bitter and more dark recounting of the ending (with Joel telling Tommy how they reached Jackson I’m assuming not long after the end of the first game) and leaving us with more guilt and doubt regarding the actions of Joel’s decision to rescue Ellie. This is by far the best writing and storytelling you’re gonna get out of the game. The epilogue lmao. Gameplay is fun and the hordes and human enemies are fun to fight. It was brave what Druckmann & co. tried to do, but it didn't work. I don't mind the death of a certain character, but my problem was how and when it happened. It was out of character and felt rushed. And the Abby story? My gosh, I really couldn't care less about Abby and her friends and just wanted to run through her story as fast as possible. At one point they showed a friend of hers in a body bag, and we were supposed to feel sad or shocked he was dead. But honestly, I had no clue who the dude was. That's how little character development these guys got.

Dina and Ellie were definitely cute together, I just wished the built up Dina's character and her relationship to Ellie more because until the farm with JJ, they had very little chemistry.

Oh and the Abby and Owen scene (you know which one I'm talking about) was pure cringe.

All in all, this game is a 5. Bec the story is way more important to me than graphics and gameplay in a game like this, it will also weigh in heavier.

I think I would have been happier with Ellie and Joel's story if LoU2 never happened.

I evaded leaks and all that BS, but now maybe I should have done that. The story was good, but unrewarding which would make you wonder why you even went for the quest in the first place. Can’t get a refund which would make anyone feeling bitter if they didn't like the game. I gave it a 4/100. I didn’t enjoy the game. It was boring. I literally almost slept in my own playthrough which is a first to me. it didn't exceed my expectations, it's just an edgy game trying to live up to its prequel. I just wished it had more depth in it with a better ending. I was playing this game with some friends who had watched the spoilers and by the end of the game they laughed at the grimace I made, I don't think I have ever cringed so hard in my entire adult life but this is the last time I buy anything on day 1. Edit:I replayed the game and I ended up getting a different experience. I think that the fact that I hasted the game made me judge it too harshly. It didn't get better, I just realized some significance of some events which I didn’t in my first playthrough. All in all I don’t look forward to any last of us 3 any time soon. Do I recommend the game? No, definitely not on this price. However I do recommend buying it if on sale. Expand

I have finished the game a few days ago. And in my opinion about this game is that is a huge disappointment. The story is just not interesting at all. The writers did not found more interesting than a revenge story. And the story in this game count for about 70% of the game. It is what you keep move on in the game. I think they failed to tell a good story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, the good: Graphics, Acting, World-Building and level-design are all 10/10, the facial expressions are on-point, being probably the best I've ever seen. That's it. The Bad: this game doens't shine where it's supposed to: the story. Is it *BAD* ? No... But it ain't good. Some decisions made by characters in the story's key points are simply too off-character. three examples: 1) Joel walking in a house full of strangers. This makes no sense. Joel is a hardcore apocalypse survival and he didn't survive over 20 years by trusting strangers like that, the first game makes that clear. 2) Abby sparing Ellie after losing all her friends. We're talking about a woman that remained obsessed for years with killing a man that murdered her father, to the point where she even took up body-building to make sure that if she ever got the chance, she'd make short work of it. And you're telling me that this very same woman meets the person that murdered: a) her lover, b) her friend who is pregnant with her lover's child and c) the rest of her friends who might as well be her family at this point, and she let's this person lives?! Did Gandhi's spirit possessed her or something? This makes no sense. 3) Ellie sparing Abby at the end. This is also complete BS for 2 reasons: a) **** Climax: Can you imagine playing God of War 3 only to reach the end and witness Kratos not kill Zeus? Yeah, this is what this game will give you. b) Completely Off-Character: Throughout game 1 and 2 of the franchise Ellie establishes herself as a pretty violent person (as anyone with the grit to survive in an apocalyptic world would have to be), she brutally murders a lot of people along the way (I can't remember her killing anyone who didn't deserve it either because they were evil or because they were attacking Ellie herself and thus making it a self-defense situation, but that's another matter), which proves that killing, at this point in time, comes naturally for her. She also carved her way through half a post-apocalyptic continent pursuing her vengeance only to give up at the very end? If this isn't off-character I don't know what is.
All of these three points could easily be fixed by: 1) Giving more screen time to Joel & Ellie, showing how life in Jackson has made him soft (bonus: this would also be a much welcome fan-service; since Joel and Ellie's relationship is what made the first game special). 2) Show Abby not getting what she expected from revenge. Show her learning that "Vengeance is a fool's game", as Arthur Morgan would say. Not only that, but the way she tortured Joel also took a toll on how her friends relate to her and so she learns from the fallout of her actions that she needs to change and then she vows to be different just before finding her friends dead... This still isn't enough to make her spare Ellie, but you can make their fight ending a draw-like situation where both parties give up since they are both too **** up from their fight. 3) Show the toll of killing a pregnant woman has taken on Ellie's life. She feels immense regret for it and she's just not the same anymore. She still goes after Abby and the player is given the choice whether or not Ellie kills Abby or not at the very end.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I hate to say that this anticipated game wasn't up to par with what I and many other fans expected as, this game had its positives and its negatives (mostly surrounding story). First lets get the positives out of the way, this game has incredible graphics a type of beauty I haven't seen much in other games as it always captivated me in the playable locations. Talking about locations, another positive are the levels where you play at although still somewhat linear this time they offer you many ways to approach a situation such as combat plus this game gives you more options to explore which I loved as in some levels I found myself usually taking more time looting than going to the main objective. Also I would like to say that the game play or combat was alright as I was hoping for more innovations but i really liked the new addition of the prone as it really helps with stealth. Lastly I would like to shine some light on the accessibility that this game offers as there are many options to fit anyone and any difficulty, With all the positives out of the way now the negatives. The negatives are basically the story but even though it is one negative compared to many positives it can't be brushed off so easily. Especially with games like this , they rely to much on the story hens why its such a huge problem. First off the death of Joel: The fact that Joel died wasn't really why I hated this but more so how early on it is and the way it happened. The way Joel dies is such a disgusting and disrespectful way to take out such a beloved character especially after how much time we have spent into seeing him grow as a person and how much time he has spent surviving just to die like this. Another part I hated was Abby: The fact that the game tries to make you sympathies with her just doesn't work as no matter what she does people will hate her for killing Joel and the 8 to 10 hour of game play with her were the worst parts of the game as all you can think of is just wanting to kill her. Unforgettable characters: The new cast of characters are unforgettable as they have little to no characteristics and apart from Dina you don't get to see much of them. Especially on Abby's side as the whole way through you hate everyone who Abby is friends with apart from some characters and when some of them died I didn't care about their death as they really weren't established. Lastly the ending: By the ending the devs probably thought that you might care for Abby which is probably why Ellie lets her live because I see no other reason that Ellie would let her live as she caused so much pain and damage to her loved ones and her. I think they should have at least given you the option and I hate how the revenge is bad theme leaves Ellie with no one and no thing. In the end i think this game tries to hard to be physiological but instead of doing that right they just paint things as just bad or good. There are many other games that have tackled the same message of revenge being bad as this game does the message terribly in my opinion. This was my personal review of The Last of Us Part 2. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My opinion on this game. This game fails to keep the character's consistently written. Joel's behavior leading to his death doesn't match his character from the last game. Yes, I've heard people saying he has let his guard down because he was in safe settlement for 4 years. Dude , who would let the f@cking guard down, follow a group of strangers in a world where murder is a common occurrence. Wait there is more, Tommy knew the place that Abby's friends were staying at the start of the game (the lodge) which means they've been there and had probably marked it down as a clear building with no infected nor other humans. And when they arrive at the lodge they don't question who they are where did they came from, Tom and Joel are just chilling with complete strangers. This is not the first time characters are being stupid or making stupid decisions that could cost there f@cking life. That could be seen also with Abby close at the end of the game where Abby finds a radio and tells a complete stranger her location, her name, that she is a firefly . Moreover back to joel, from the start of the first last of us you could see Joel didn't want to to take any unnecessary risks. I remember this scene from the start of the game before the infection took over the world where Tommy , Joel and his daughter were in a car and Joel didn't want to stop and pick up a family that were in random road alone ,he knew they would be a burden. So don't tell me Joel just changed as character all of the sudden . There a lot more I don't like about the storyline this video is how I feel the storyline should have been : (no linking)
Graphics for me for a PS4 console look amazing 9/10
The gameplay in its core feels like the first last of us with some changes of course ,you can go prone, stealth in grass the AI is greatly improved from their last games. There are some bosses that makes it feel like you are playing resident evil.
Gameplay 8/10 I did like the gameplay feels fun
I feel bad for the people who worked on this game for days to make it look good, run well, detailed so much of the environment , the cinematography is really good the only problem is the writing it is not consistently realistic as the first game was.

The Gameplay Mechanics were great, Visuals were amazing and the Soundtrack was nice. That's pretty much the only positives I have.

The Pacing is slow, Story is quite poor, some of the characters deaths were poorly done and some characters are poorly written.

This game could've been a lot better even with the same story by doing a couple of things differently.

Did not enjoy playing as Abby, As soon as the characters switched from Ellie to Abby after the Cinema scene, The game got extremely boring. I really didn't care about her story or her friends. I also didn't find her or her friends story sad either, Especially Mel. That's actually one of the reasons I made the score a 5/10. It would've been a 6/10 if we played less as Abby.

I would've loved to have traveled with Tommy more or maybe travelled with him instead of Dina. I think that would've made the game much better.

The ending I would say wasn't bad but it wasn't good. I still would've preferred to kill Abby. That's what we spent the whole game doing.

That's about it, 5/10 for me. Wasn't a bad game, Wasn't good. I was actually enjoyiing playing as Ellie right until we had to play as Abby. After that, I had to force myself through it until the end. By the end, I couldn't really care much about the game anymore which is one of the reasons I said The ending I would say wasn't bad but it wasn't good.

high quality textures, nice details (notes being wet after swimming), easter eggs (Gustavo Santaolalla (music producer) at the beginning of the game) and motion capture for characters make TLOU2 one of the most astounding games ever made even prettier than most AAA games for pc.

    Audio 10/10:
no matter what you get on the screen the audio is always appropriate and high quality.
Sounds like gunshots and voices can change depending on the enviroment.

    Gameplay 8/10:
Good visuals and audio make the game very immersive. Also mentionable are the good physics like blood behaviour. Guns feel allright but not topnotch. Melee fights feel good with many types of finishing moves, the dodge ability and the variety of weapons. The levels are linear and you often can see an upcoming fight only based on the amount of cover. Enemies are a big positive point: natural movement, behaviour (looking after a fallen companion), changing fight tactics and variety make enemies challenging and enjoyable. Crafting and skilling is well made motivading you to search every corner for loot.

    Story 4/10:
The only reason why this game gets a bad rating from me. As a storygame the story is the most important part and has way more impact on the end score than gameplay etc..
Its a story about revenge and forgiveness. After Joel gets tortured, killed by Abby in front of Ellie Ellie goes to Seattle for revenge with Dina, Tommy and Jesse. After slaughtering our way through hundrets of fungi, WLFs, dogs(!) and Abbyfriends as Ellie we are confronted with Abby instakilling Jesse. Now we get a 10 hours long flashback of Abby and her perspective having nothing to do with Ellie. ND tries to make Abby more likeable and understandable by showing her "nice" side. This attempt to show the other side of the coin fails badly. Abbys action of avenging her dead father (doctor we killed as Joel) by travelling thousand miles only to torture Joel who has saved her life from zombies minutes ago infront of a familiy member who beggs for merci is unsympathetic and tells the audience that Abby is an evil psychopath not able to forgive an act that happened 4 years ago. In the flashback we can see that Abby knows of the actions of the Fireflys to kill Ellie without her and Joels consent. By that she also knows that Joel only defended his daughter making her vengeance even more absurd and cruel. As Abby we also get to know Abbys collegues who confirm my opinion about the WLF being a bunch of scumbags. The WLF is at war Scars aka. an aggressive religious scumtribe. After Abbys story showing how she changes from a cruel killer to a nice person within 2 or 3 days we get back to the final fight playing as Abby. Now we can see that Tommy got shot in the eye by Abby after saving Ellie from a bullet. Now we fight against Ellie and win. As we are about to kill Ellie Dina attacks us with a knife. Luckily Lev is here to save the day by shooting Dina in her arm. As we are about to kill Dina Ellie tells Abby that Dina is pregnant. She responded with "good". The only thing that stopped her is Lev. The game tries to make us understand and forgive Abby for 10 hours straight but the only thing it achieves is confirming our prejudices about Abby being a cruel psychopath. After the fight we get a big time jump to Ellie being together with Dina and her child in a nice farmhouse. As it turns out Tommy is alive. He comes along showing Ellie where Abby currently is. After she refuses to avenge Joel Tommy gets mad and calls her a coward. Thats straight up **** Tommy was the guy who has gone out for revenge without Ellie because he worried about her. He even told his wife to lock Ellie in Jackson and now he suddenly doesnt care about her even though she has more to loose than ever before. Now Ellies ptsd comes back and she cant let go of Abby. She goes after her knowing she lost Dina and her child with that descision. After she meets Abby in a horrible condition prisoned by Rattlers she fights her. As she was about to kill her she thinks about Joel how she forgave him and realises that revenge wont make her happier so she lets go of Abby which is quite unrealistic considering she murdered hundrets of people only to get to Abby. Now she turns back home where nobody is left. She then tries to play her guitar but with only 3 fingers left she isnt able to (Abby bit them off). So she leaves her last memory of Joel behind.

A dark story where everybody looses because of revenge. Especially Ellie even though she spared Abbys life. Main problem is a lack of character developement, plot holes and the game trying so hard to make Abby likeable but achiving the opposite. Because of that the game feels very unsatisfying.
The idea of a revenge story where both sides of the coin are shown is good but executed poorly.
I could live with a sad story (even though its not my taste) as long it is greatly written.
Its a shame they didnt spend more time making a good TLOU2 story.

There are plenty of intense moments to experience and a lot of the good elements from the first game are here and better. I guess it just depends on the player on whether or not they’ll enjoy this story line.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLoU 2 was trying its best to recreate the success and brutality of Game Of Thrones, and even have a "red wedding moment", and instead - only succeeded in recreating the failure, and futility of Game Of Thrones, Season 8.
The good: The stealth gameplay in TLoU 2 is a massive improvement over the first game. Feels more polished and evolved, like me sneaking around in Metal Gear Solid 5's open world. Its a shame, because this gameplay would suit a slightly more open-world survival/stealth game. Especially with how GOOD this game looks and animates and plays. I was often face-first into walls, trying to zoom in on small details, and reading old posters, menus. Looking around and exploring what was left of some persons old bedroom, or house. The VISUAL craft and design did a great job at world building...
But lets move onto how the narrative starts to get in the way of this improved gameplay and world-building. TLoU 2 is constantly trying to drip-feed you narrative, from conversations you overhear from NPC's (which some were fine), to the hundreds of hand-written notes left on every preset dead body, in every house, or building... requiring you to stop and read to tell their mini-story in this post-apocalyptic America. This works fine if done sparingly, but this game inundates you with letter-after-letter, from some person who was about to die who decided to write a full page journal entry on whatever scrap-paper they could find; to even groups of people communicating together, by what seems like letter-only, who clearly lived in the same neighbourhood together. It ends up accomplishing the opposite, It goes from world-building, to immediately pulling you out of the game once the heavy-hand of the narrative makes itself too pronounced in the world around you. I was bored when Doom 3 did this over 15 years ago. This bleeds into the patrolling enemies talking out loud EVERY time you're within ear-shot, trying their hardest to make you feel guilty about the person you're about to kill. It becomes almost laughable after a certain point. The game is trying so hard to MAKE me feel a certain way, and never earns it. "Society is crumbling and people are turning on eachother" "one mans hero is anothers' villain". That nameless NPC you're about to stealth kill actually has a name, a dog, friends AND a girlfriend. It becomes over-saturated. This trope has been done to death in the zombie genre. It seems weird for it to become the LASER focused premise of the sequel. By the end of the game, I felt like I was being bludgeoned over the head by the writers at Naughty Dog . Yes, I got your point . Now where is the good part?

The first game was a shorter, concise narrative, that built up to an emotional ending it EARNED. I understood everyone's perspective, and motivations, even Marlene and the Fireflies. But this sequel, TLoU 2, does not earn any of the emotions it's TRYING to get out of the player. The writing is inconsistent, changing the characters personality and motivations and having them make decisions that don't make sense.
And with how progressive Naughty Dog seems to be politically, which is reflected even more in this sequel, has me questioning why they would build up one of the gaming industries only prominent LGBT protagonists like Ellie, a character that even the sexist "gamer-bros" fell in love with and rooted for. To go from successfully normalizing having a gay, female lead, and then simply destroy all that, destroy that character, just to re-tell the same old "revenge bad" story. Seems like a such a wasted opportunity to do much more from a progressive standpoint. And without getting too much into spoilers, lets just say that by the end of the game, Joel got it easy - Ellie's character is not only destroyed within the narrative of the game, she's also destroyed in fandom sense as well, her icon was taken down a notch. And if Naughty dog thinks "BUT THAT WAS THE POINT" my response is,
"well, your point kinda sucks, and you missed a great opportunity to platform a gay character and raise them up to iconic status."
To summarize, TLoU 2 is a technically impressive game, that suffers massively from its narrative in two ways - the narrative itself is unsatisfying and depressing, (again, reminding me of torture porn and futility of a movie like 2002's french film "Irreversible") and because the narrative is so stilted, the gameplay-loop also suffers from that compartmentalized story that jumps not just from character-to-character, but goes into flashbacks within flashbacks. It never really establishes a good flow.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story feels as if the script was dropped on the floor and it was picked up in a hurry to make sure no one noticed. The game has potential but screwed the pooch majorly by having everything happen at the wrong time. Why should I feel sympathetic to a dog I killed 12 hours ago? Or a character I murdered in roughly the same time? Why are you trying to make me like Abby when she murdered Joel in front of us, let the rage sizzle for 14 hours, and then try to convince us that she's relatable and likeable? This game would have been amazing if the story would have just panned out right, but honestly, the game just feels like it was mashed together in a hurry without the tinder care and planning of the first, and is just using the name of the first game to try and get it through.

For all the people giving this game a 10/10 I have to ask, would you even care about this game if it wasn't a sequel to one of your favourite games? Does the story actually feel smooth and beautiful to you, or do you just want to love it because you don't want to tarnish your love for the series? I seriously thought about giving this game a 0/10 just to combat all the people who I really think aren't giving their honest opinion about that game in order to keep the idea that their favourite game's reputation wasn't tarnished, or who loved it just because it showed LGBTQ+ support, or think disliking the game automatically makes you seem like a bigot, but I'm going to give my honest opinion.

Now for the positives, the graphics are beautiful, and this is one of the most accessible games of all time. I'm nearly convinced I could go blind and there would be some option that would allow me to play the game, but other than that I'm honestly disappointed. This was not an ideal followup to one of the best games of all time. If this was any other game, it would have just been an above-average popcorn game that people would have forgotten about in 2 years. I pray that Naughty Dog listens to constructive criticism and fix the problems with this game in a third entry.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game today (06/26) and cried a lot, not because of the story but because I waited six years for it and remembered how happy I was when I saw the trailer at E3. Well the first thing that frustrated me was the level designs. In the world of The Last of Us Naughty Dog showed us that unforeseen events happen, after all the world is in pieces, buildings fall, few resources but as a player, I felt that they happened a lot to increase the gameplay time in TLOU 2, for me this was very clear and they didn't need to extend the game like that. I would prefer to see how Joel got so different from what was shown in TLOU 1. To summarize a little, I felt that I did not know the new Joel and did not know what made him let his guard down for strangers who were close to Jackson. I agree with his death and I believe that it really gave meaning to part two, after all, he killed and destroyed several groups on his journey with Ellie, but he was not even cautious with those people he met (Abby's group) and it broke my experience. Moving forward, I felt very tired with the gameplay of the game, in many ways the gameplay from the first to the second is improved, the crawling part is very interesting and matches well with the style of the game, the player sees each object being placed in Ellie or Abby's backpack and despite being a small detail, they make the game look real. However, I spent hours going through infected, scars, and WLF without feeling the reasons to do that mainly in Abbie's gameplay, the island part of the scars was a deplorable example of that, and the part that Ellie went after Abby. Honestly, I didn't want either of them to die, despite having to make a big effort to like Abby's plot since he was depicted without emotion by the scenes and art direction. I really loved the fact that Ellie and Abby had mirrored sufferings, that would be much more interesting if the deaths of the loved ones were portrayed with impact by the writers. The Last of Us Part II has an identity crisis, tiresome gameplay for the game itself to make the player go from side to side to have more hours of gameplay. However, the plot itself is extremely dense and interesting, but for me, the way the situations were put together was confusing, with no impact when they should have and badly developed characters emotionally. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extremely controversial game. A lot of misandry and tons of feminism. Story, writing, direction and characters are garbage. On a technical level it's perfect, amazing graphics, gameplay, sound design, soundtrack and cinematography. One of the most hated, controversial, spiteful and sadistic characters ever does something horrific, unforgivable, inhuman and unacceptable in the beginning and it sets the tone for this miserable and bleak journey and destination you have to go through for many hours and grind through to get to the conclusion.

Sympathizing and empathizing with a vicious ruthless murderer is not really a concern of mine neither is playing as that person for the vast majority of the game (You play like 50% as Ellie, 49,9% as Abby and 0,1% as Joel a brief horseback riding no combat or anything). Joel is widely known by real gamers and fans as one of if not the most legendary and beloved characters to have ever existed in video game form yet he gets treated like crap here.

Ellie sides with a rude, ignorant and a jackass hostile bartender in a dance (who tells Dina that she is a lesbian in a very vulgar and an attacking way) over her father figure, protector and savior Joel. Side characters feels very much like filler, I didn't care for Jesse, Yara, Lev, Manny, Owen and Mel. Dina is helpful and probably the only character who isn't completely mentally unstable. Tommy is as reckless as ever and is a lot like Ellie in this title vengeful and hateful.

Some cameos were neat and some funny minor characters hop into the plot but don't serve a lot of purpose other than cannon fodder for the so called "hero protagonists". Ellie guilt trips and berates Joel a lot in this title for no reason other to give him past trauma and making him feel low about himself. You can tell who Naughty Dog wanted you to root for and think who's a monster even if it's completely untrue, false and a lie.

Odd romances, uncomfortable and an awkward sex scene that happens in a boat after Abby tried to attack and potentially kill Owen over an argument and a disagreement they had which turns into a heated lustful banging because Owen pulled Abby's braid. No nudity shown except for Abby's and Owen's nips.

Almost feels like forced sexual abuse (maybe rape) on Abby's part, completely takes advantage of Owen and she makes him at the same time cheat on his pregnant girlfriend secretly, discreetly and be disloyal to her without Mel ever knowing. Mel discovers nothing about it when the story is finished it's never talked about. That's something only a horrible and an unlikable, terrible and an egotistical person would do. It's weird.

Similar romance happens between Dina & Ellie early in the game except they are partially clothed private areas covered and Ellie forgets to be on watch and patrol for walkers and unwelcomed strangers (like Abby's group) because of it. The intimacy is very forgetful. The writing is very confusing and doesn't make sense a lot of the time.

Shock factor plays a big role unfortunately which is most of the time lazy writing considered especially when it's been overused to the point that media shouldn't be using it as much at this point. Almost every male gets treated badly in this and is either shot, brutally murdered or used as bait courtesy of Neil Druckmann. Combat is improved from previous game, upgrading is an unique addition to your arsenal and polishing your weapons.

Cinematography is fantastic almost to no cuts in either cinematics or gameplay itself. It's very fluent. Graphics look amazing and realistic, feels like watching a live action movie it's beautifully made. Gustavo is incredible on the banjo as usual and most of the sound design is very cool and often shocks you at how good it is.

For a sequel it's massively disappointing. They changed way too many things in the narrative and the fact that they have the audacity to take out by far the best character in the first 2 hours of playing is insulting and disgusting to the fans and the players who have anticipated this sequel for years. Naughty Dog shot themselves in the foot in the worst possible fashion and kind of ruined this franchise for a lot of folks. If there's a Part III coming up I'm not terribly interested mainly because of how they treated a beloved heroic character from its predecessor.

Neil Druckmann is a beta cuck who needs to look himself into the mirror and think "What have I done?" or this series is buried deep in the ground regardless of how great Abby and Ellie are doing. It feels nonsensical, disturbing and cruel to do this to a loyal fanbase and supporters of the company.

So many questionable things about this game and a mixed bag overall. Many positives and many negatives which leaves it in a mediocre dramatic completely over the top package. If they don't remake this game properly I'm not interested in continuing in a third part. They can't just pretend nothing happened here and ignore everything.

Actually I would argue, that most people who have played the first game, would call it a "feel good" game, despite the dark universe and the gruesome events the characters had to endure.
The Last of Us Part 2, has no feel-good moments, it goes darker then any game has gone before, and it keep hammering in the same points again and again. Hate generates Hate!

Personal I feel The last of us (1) is one of the best games and stories ever told. I fell the Last of Us part 2, could have been just as awesome a game, if not for the choice to force the story on to characters of the first game. And I hate the game for that.
They could easily fit the story on to new characters, as the initial reason for Hate, is so generic that it does not matter from where it springs.

Do I like the game... definitely! I would especially recommend it to everyone how have NOT played the first game. Not something I've had ever stayed before.

Some "professional" reviewers have been saying ignore user reviews, but that's not helpful, and seems they are looking to assert their own perceived importance as "official" mouthpieces rather than be open to discussion.

Explore all the options, including “accessibility”. Try increased movement / aim sensitivity, and set camera distance + field of view to max. I was regularly adjusting brightness to see clearly in the (many) dark spaces. The flashlight does not treat your eyes kindly, and for such a long game, this can be painful. I understand this is the world, but I wish developers would be a little more considerate of players’ health.

Do not play this on Normal or Easy. I wasn't going to play twice, so chose Survivor: You can not "run and gun” – it will play more stealthily, with limited resources / ammo. It was not too challenging, although a few of the bosses did have me dying a few times. When I succeeded it was rewarding. Enemy AI is poor, especially later in the game. I often just made noise or killed one, hid, and drew them all towards me.

Those whining about political correctness / sexuality need to get over themselves. Some comments aimed at the other new main character are totally unacceptable. I enjoyed seeing the story from different perspectives, although it could have been streamlined without sacrificing the narrative. Some of the new characters were quite flat, and others interesting. One explicit scene on a boat I think could have been cut and was overly in your face; a subtle approach could have achieved the same effect. There are some sweet moments, although few and far between. The game is extremely violent, but I was actually expecting it to be worse. At the end I wasn't left feeling cheated but wish the gameplay had been pushed further.

You can break glass, climb ropes, swim, and lie flat, but it does not challenge any established systems. Why not let Ellie or the other character befriend a dog + direct its actions? More NPCs in the world who you can interact with? Mini games other than the guitar playing, like carving wood statues, drawing, fishing, playing darts? Yes, it's the story of you surviving in a world that has fallen apart, but there is definitely more scope for inventiveness. Levels look great but layout is simplistic.

Enemies are not very interesting. The infected could have taken more shapes / sizes. The only one I found frightening were the "stalkers" who hide and creep up on you. Bloaters and Shamblers look nearly the same, and a boss near the end of the game is just another larger version of other enemies. Human enemies are similarly passable. The much talked about name calling lent a more comic aspect than any sort of empathy for them or their dogs (who also don't feature often).

Visually the game is impressive, and art direction is generally excellent. There is some variation in environments (snow, beach, forest, city), although I would have liked to see more of this + a shorter game so you can better appreciate the time spent in each location. Characters and animals look very good, and detail on clothes and accessories is excellent. Concept art is interesting, as it shows how final characters differ from their original designs. I did encounter some glitches, but not too many.

The game is an "on rails" experience; you are guided through it exactly as the developers intended, with very little room for your own input. Your only real choices are whether to play on easier difficulties and gun everything down, or play on tougher difficulties and play stealthily. If you are not a closed-minded bigot, then there is something here to enjoy. The gameplay can feel lacking and linear, opportunities were missed to make it more fresh and varied, the story does drag on, and some non-playable characters are flat, but overall I am pleased I "experienced" this. I'm not sure if I played it or it played me, but it's an interesting experiment in the medium, and a fine way to end this generation of consoles.

Lots has been made of the ending, with many people offering simplistic views. In the final scene, look at the expression on the character's face. There is a moment of realisation. It was not "all for nothing". It's not good defeats evil, but the characters end up at peace with themselves, after suffering so much, and what could be more of a victory than that?

Extras = disappointing. Just concept art + character models. Not good enough. The models are nice, but the art isn’t exciting. Should be included: Ellie’s journals, viewable directly from the main menu after you complete the game. Behind the scenes / “making of” videos. And have the guitar playing parts unlockable too, with the ability to select the location in the game where Ellie finds them to practice in. Wouldn’t be difficult to do that and would be cool to have it accessible from the main menu.

As this is a story driven game that wants to play on players emotions for the characters in the first game. The set up for Joel doesn't work, because Joel does some very un-Joel things and it breaks his character. As for Ellie she seems to have learnt nothing from the first game. So both Joel and Ellie don't develop as characters. They both regress and in a unconvincing way narratively.

The ending has all the build up and no pay off. Which makes me think oh no not a direct sequel to this? Or maybe another DLC cash grab later to wrap things up?

As for the new playable character Abby the way she dropped in the time line of the game really didn't help us the player get behind her in any way. As for the emotional manipulation with dogs seriously fts. I have been attacked and bit by a large dog to the point of hospitalization. So in my case I have more PDST than feels for attack dogs on Ellie case.

As like the first game more miss than hit gameplay, but with weaker characterisation and story this time around. The gameplay was never the hook or draw with this series. It was the story and characters, but this time they failed to deliver on the meat and potatoes story. Leaving us sipping on the gravy game play.

On the other side this game has an amazing and immersive world with an excellent atmosphere (really enjoyed the first 2/3). Interestingly, large parts of the game appear to have been developed long time ago for the PS3 in first place.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Lat Of Us Part 2 is easily the most controversial game of the entire year, and has divided gamers, some people hate it, others love it for what it is. The Last Of Us 2 is not a terrible game or the worst game ever made like most people have been saying. It is definitely disappointing in some areas but it is not the worst game ever made. The rest of this review contains spoilers.

Con one: Joel's death. I think we can all agree that since the game was announced that we were excited to get see our iconic duo once again and see how their relationship has developed since the first game. And I think I speak for every fan of this series, that we were upset when Joel was killed at the two hour mark in one of the worst ways, getting his skull bashed in by a golf club. I think we wouldn't have minded if Joel died in this game if it were towards the end of the game and it was because he was protecting Ellie. His death felt cheap and had no impact, unlike Sarah's death from the first game.

Con Two: Playing as Abby. I don't know why Naughty dog thought it was a good idea to put in a section where you have to play as Abby, the woman who killed Joel, who in my opinion is one of the best written video game characters of all time. I didn't like her story line at all and playing as her just rubbed me the wrong way and it felt like her story line was just filler to make the game longer then it needed to be. I wanted to play the entire game through Ellie's eyes. Yes it explains why Abby went to kill Joel but I think we would've been fine if we saw her only three times. First at the beginning where we see her kill Joel, second time at the movie theater, and the final time for the final fight at the beach. It puts Ellie's revenge plot on hold and takes away from the overall plot.

Con three: The fireflies. Before Abby gets captured towards the end of the game, she ends up coming into contact with people who are rebuilding the fireflies. I don't like this because it takes away the emotional weight from the ending of the first game, Where Joel literally kills the remaining fireflies and their leader to save Ellie. Now they make that ending not matter now that the fireflies are back. so it makes the ending of the game feel pointless.

Con four: Ellie And Joel. This is the biggest problem I have with this game, Ellie is angry with Joel the entire game. Yes they later explain why but that doesn't excuse the fact the entire first game is now pointless. The whole first game was about the bond between them and how they basically become father and daughter. Now that doesn't matter now that Ellie hates Joel for the whole game.

A lot of cons right, makes the game sound terrible and the fans shouldn't play it. But that's not the cause. Lets talk pro's.

Pro One: Ellie's Motivation. Like i said earlier even though Joel's death was a weak, it makes sense story wise because it gives Ellie motivation to get revenge on the people who killed basically her father figure. And you believe that motivation since we all know how much Joel meant to Ellie.

Pro Two: The Characters. Even if you hate the story like most people do, the characters hold the game together. Everyone has their own character arcs including Ellie. Ellie goes on a quest for revenge and will do anything she has to find and kill Abby and kill anyone she has to get to her. She uses her anger as her main weapon. However when we reach the end of the game and Ellie is drowning Abby in the water, she realizes even if she kills Abby it won't bring Joel back. So even though some people hate that you don't kill Abby in the end, it makes sense for Ellie's arc and to show that the violence we use on others to make ourselves feel better, won't solve the pain and loss we witnessed or went through.

Pro Three: Graphics And Gameplay. The graphics in this game is beautiful and is one of the best looking PS4 game of all time in my opinion. Everything looks great from the foliage growing around us, to the amazing detail on the characters. The gameplay is smooth, every violent action you do as either Ellie or Abby was fun to do and amazing to watch. Small details from the blood from Ellie's victims squirting out onto her face whenever she would do major damage to their body, to hiding under cars and waiting for the right moment to strike at your enemies.

In conclusion this is not a terrible game, this is not the worst game ever made. It is definitely disappointing in some areas, but not enough to take away from your enjoyment of the game. This is a great game that I would not only recommend to the fans but to newcomers who just want to hop in and see what this game is all about. I suggest to play the game for yourself and develop your own opinion on it and not just go off what you've heard or read on the internet.

Decent gameplay, though it didn't improve significantly over the first game. Stunning graphics, technological masterpiece, but the plot sometimes fall down to the level of some stupid teenage drama in post-apocalypse setting, like you watching another The 100 or The Walking Dead. Nice game overall, but as a sequel to the first TLOU - sucks.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't want to get too in depth so I'll list a few pros and cons then explain a little why I gave 6/10

    Pros
    - fantastic graphics - excellent music and sound design - better level design than 1
    - slightly better companion AI than 1 Cons - woeful enemy AI
    - Clunky outdated controls and animations - 6-10 hours too long - cheap storytelling, boring revenge plot, poorly fleshed out characters
    - feels like it could have been a PS3 game gameplay wise - tacky manipulation tactics made for you to feel empathy yet none of the characters warranted it. All in all I was hugely disappointed with the game, I finished it today and I'll be trading it in later on. The story is terrible, I honestly think one of the clickers could have come up with something better than this generic trope riddled monstrosity. I didn't care about Ellie OR Abby, just two bits of crap with different coloured glitter. The gameplay was mind numbingly dull, 10 minutes of gameplay followed by either an overly long cutscene, or an hour of going round and round a larger map finding crap to craft neccesary things with. Take away the wandering around all over picking up bits of scissors and the game itself would be around 7 hours I bet. The awful doom music everytime you got into a combat scenario got so annoying too, as did the silly noise whenever someone was close to spotting you (seriously it's relentless even when you're in cover) The combat mechanics were better than TLOU1 but not much, it felt very last gen, as did the gunplay which is Uncharted 1 levels of awful. It's not a bad game by any stretch, but neither is it the 10/10 masterpiece so many sycophantic pseudo-intellectual reviewers paint it as with their pompous waffles. It's a decent enough stealth game at times with a garbage story, awful writing, horrible characters and gameplay from the last gen. The only thing it really excels at is the graphics, sound design and voice acting. The rest of the game is simply mediocre truth be told. Would I recommend it? Only a deep sale, it's not worth more than £15, luckily I'll get most of my money back in trade - I feel for players that bought it digitally.

I waited for this game for so long and was disappointed by it so fast.
The gameplay is too repetitive for such a long game. What NaughtyDog introduced as new gameplay mechanics for the main playable character looks ridiculous or is removed in the second part of this game.

The soundtrack was noticeably absent for a lot of the game. When it was present it had the familiar feel of the first game, but it was hardly present. there were still some fantastic scenes that were made by the sound and music direction, but they are few and far between.
Voice acting was on point throughout the entire game. Cannot really fault it.
The Story! Oh dear lord this is where it gets very tricky. Thematically, it should work very well but it sadly falls flat. Many of the characters introduced in this game I just don't care about. They have somewhat fleshed out stories and history, but sometimes they just feel kind of unnecessary. This is also meant to be a story about revenge and how it can become all consuming, a message that the game constantly throws at you. The problem to this of course is that in game we have no choice but to try and enact our revenge. there is no 'Spare the life' option of any of the human enemies you fight. the only option there is, is to either continue playing the game, and have it try and make you feel bad for the decisions you are making, or stop playing the game altogether.
The game is also too long. A few times came natural stopping points for the game, a final showdown if you will, but trying to end the game there just gets you the 'game over' animations and throws you to the start of the encounter again. It just feels weird to play through it! I cant go into too many details without posting spoilers, but for a game that heavily relies on the story, this does fall quite short. I think it would have worked better as a 3quel or maybe a couple of separate games as parts of the story are disjointed. Either they had two many ideas and tried to cram them all in or the story was changed late in production as some of it just doesn't quite fit.
Overall the game is great to play and I couldn't put it down. But that seemed to be in spite of itself at times.
    SCORE: 7/10

The gameplay is fine, I enjoyed the survival and crafting mechanics especially at higher difficulties. Hardly any replay value but I might play a new game+ then stop at the halfway point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I honestly don't understand why this game is getting so much hate. I think that the story is amazing and extremely engaging, although a little too long, and I don't understand why the death of Joel causes fans to hate this game. Though loved by the fans, not all the in-game NPCs have to love him. He is not a hero, he is an anti-hero at best. He killed so many people for his personal gain of keeping Ellie alive. Yes his death is incredibly tragic and depressing but it would not make sense to keep him alive no matter what.

Overall, the game is amazing. Story and Game play are both really good, especially the stealth in this game. The biggest let down of this game is the truly terrible editing. The problem is not what happens in the cut scenes, because the story told is really good, but the order in which it is shown to us, that is the real problem. The second half of playing as Abby is just terrible because we can't build a connection to her because we know how all of this is going to end.

There was a lot of potential which made the game shine in the first half and the ending but the second half sadly is just terribly paced. However, this does not mean the game itself is "a disgrace to the first one". It is a lot of potential badly executed for half the time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's so fascinating how people are still fighting about this game and how divided the fan base is but if it wasn't clear before it should be now for all level headed people . The Last of Us 2 is not a masterpiece and it's not the worst game ever deserving of anything under a 4 (I get that people are trying to be heard but come on)

So here's a few hot takes of mines as well since everyone has chimed in . Let's start of with some facts

Is Joel disrespected in this game? No
Is Abby a terrible character and a Mary Sue? **** Yes
Are the side characters bad? Yes
Is the pacing off and the game too long? Yes
Is the story unsalvagable and/or complete trash? No
    Is the ending bad? Yes...somewhat
    Is the game woke? Yes
    Is the gameplay good? Absolutely
Is the attention to detail award worthy? Most definitely

Now let's break down those statements shall we?

First of all Joel is not disrespected in this game in the slightest . Was the false trailers and fake interviews a **** move? Yes , is the slight retcon of the final events of the first game a ploy to further demonize his actions? Yes but that's as far as it goes . The entire story is dedicated around Joel and he is used to motivate you to do what you have to do and if that wasn't enough the end credit song if you pay attention to the lyrics is both sad and incredibly beautiful for both Ellie and Joel

Second most talked about aspect of the game is of course Abby . Once again Neil Druckmann was caught lying that you only get to play as Ellie and that's undoubtedly a **** move no matter how you try to justify it but that wouldn't have been a problem if the character was you know ....good . I could go on and on with all the contrivances and **** plot points the game has to make you care for her but I'll just say that Abby is a Mary Sue and kindly direct you to TV Tropes just to see how many character trait boxes she checks . If after reading those you still aren't convinced then we have nothing further to discuss

Thirdly we go the side characters who are mostly terrible . Dina is just OK and her relationship with Ellie has zero chemistry , Jesse is a pointless character and only there to be a sperm dispenser and a body for someone to kill (Seriously what happened to the teased love triangle?) , Tommy is all over the place being a badass the one second and a buffoon the next , Abby's friends are all annoying and you are glad to finally kill them despite the games efforts to make you care and the siblings are fine for what they are but their relationship with Abby is forced , manipulative and badly paced

At number four we have the pacing/length . A lot of people liked the first open area with Ellie but I ****ing hated it as it was way WAY too long for it's own good and kills the opening hours of the game . Abby's trip to the aquarium also takes way too ****ing long and the pointless flashbacks do nothing but regurgitate stuff we already knew and beat you over the head with "hey they aren't so different after all and perspective matters" stuff which are fine in moderation but they took it way too far

Fifth is the story and is it all bad? No but the writing is all over the place as you truly question if subsequent scenes were written by the same person . You go from cringe , to emotional to cringe , to compelled rinse and repeat

Sixth is the ending and is it bad? Yes due to Abby's poor character development and the games super fun combat which gives mixed messages . I get the sentiment but boy it didn't work . The ending credits song salvaged it though but I doubt that they have the balls to do what the lyrics imply

Seventh is the game woke? LOL at pregnant women on the field , the Abby sex scene and the baby in general

Eight I'm going to combine the final two points into one . The Last of Us Part II is a blast to play and literally every game after it will feel like **** in comparison mostly due to the amazing animations . Graphics , attention to detail? Best in the business especially because it was created for an even by 2013 standards underpowered console . Sound design? Excellent , Cinematography? Fantastic , Voice acting? top notch ...

The Last of Us Part II is flawed game but a good one nonetheless . Add to all the above the fact that it released without bugs or massive day 1 patches and all the accessibility options and I can see how people appreciate it more than others . At the same time covering your eyes and ears to the games problems and calling everyone that disagrees with you a phobe like the fanboys , journalists and numnuts like Troy Baker like to do is also pathetic

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part 2 is a game filled with tregedy. This ranges from the multiple stories it tells, to the way you deal with you enemies or your enemies deals with you.

The game does great building suspense and keeps your heart rate level elevated throughout its many dangerous encounters, however the way in witch these encounters are presented, does become repetitive after a while.

The greatest tragedy told by this game, is in its story. Now that I have finished the game, I believe the game was killed off, by the killing of Joel. Everything after the game's opening 2 hours, just became a lot of background noise and senseless actions and questionable decisions by the other characters of the story.

Many times later in the game, especially when Abby's story got told, I was feeling that the developers are now just trying to drag out something. I did not associate with any of the characters in Abby's crew, besides the dog. The only sympathy I had at the end of her story, was the killing of her dog, and that's it.

Unfortunately, there can be no way back for this what should have been an exceptional game series from here.

Everything that was built up from TLOU part 1 was completely thrown out the door. Literally 1-2 hours into the game Joel is brutally murdered by "Abby", a shemale basically. And for a good 3rd of the game you are forced to play as Abby. And in the end, Ellie let's her go because "Revenge is bad". The game has a lot of flashbacks...A LOT.

TLOU Part 2 through interviews and some footage was portrayed as a "Joel and Ellie" adventure. And now you can understand why the community was in flames when the leaked info was out and now that the game is out, it's even in more flames. The story was just all over the place and most of it didn't make sense.

(which you probably never will because some people are insane and make death threats when they dont get their participation trophy)

now for anyone else looking to decide whether or not to purchase the game this is my opinion. mild spoilers but i mean they are everywhere right now right?
i personally want to give this game a lower rating because of how upsetting the story is and that you have to play as abby with such boring lifeless characters around you. but the picture of rage fueled revenge is painted out perfectly at the begin. even as upsetting as it was it fits perfectly. playing as adult ellie was an absolute blast. (much better character than anything naughty dog has created and my first game was crash so ive been a long time fan.) gameplay was well done not perfect multiple times as abby i would attempt to walk across a ladder or plank and fall to my death because i somehow missed lol. camera being to close when uderwater so i couldnt see anything. aiming with auto aim snaps you around and aiming without it is not smooth at all but still better. alot of good scares and intense moments in this. magnificent job their. now if you are not a very story oriented player or expecting a magnificent story or did not play the first game then this game will be great. go ahead and give it a try.

the only real issue with the overall story being bad is in the final fight. nothing get accomplished!?!? she bits off ellies fingers which is an emotional low blow considering the trailer for how long was ellie playing the guitar and joel promises and does teach her to play guitar. i assume thats what your going for but she just up and decides to let abby live. for what reason, what explanation fits. its like you said "she didnt killer her she cried, went home lost everything, even two finger. the end" and slammed the book shut.

the reason the hate about this game is so high because you did such a good job on abby as a bad guy beating joel to death. that we all hate her. you then try to make us like her and play as her. the wolves characters besides owen stink. she never even shows remorse for beating him to death. never shows understanding of ellie being like a daughter to him and he didnt want to lose her. he wasnt in the right but anyone can understand that. the ending is very emotional its rough but the problem is that it doesnt make sense, its sad, and its unfulfilling.

I was a huge fan of the first game and i waited 7 years for a second game and my expectations were high and when i finished playing the game i was left disappointed by the story direction not only does it shove political agenda into the game but you killed off one of the best characters in gaming just so we can play as his killer like really and ending just un do everything you just played 25 hours to see. This is a game that should’ve never been made the only great thing about this game was the gameplay and graphics and voice acting Abby isn’t even interesting at all she even looks like dude I’m just so mad that this is what i waited 7 years to play and also explains why 70% of naughty dog company is gone because of Neil druckman and his ideas are really awful this is the last game i would play from naughty dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok, so having played through it I'm going to give an honest and fair reflection of the game.

First off, the game is visually stunning. It's absolutely beautiful to look at. The graphics are amazing. I did enjoy most, not all, but most of Ellie's play through. It was something I wanted to do after TLOU and I'm pleased to have had the opportunity to do so. My praise however, does stop there.

Joel, Jesus that mess. It isn't the fact that he dies, it's just given the importance of the character, and the attachment people have to him, his death, at the stage in the game and HOW it happens literally makes no sense at all. If it came later in the game after playing as both Abby and Ellie for around half the overall gameplay then fine, but 2hrs into the game, in what is his second scene? No! Also, this is a man who spent the entire first game not trusting a sole, and then he's like, 'oh hey person I've just met, I'm Joel and this is where I live'. It just doesn't make sense at all. It isn't believable and the game lost me completely from there. Abby is not a likeable character at all from the very beginning. Whether you knew the leaks or not, her motive was given away within 5 minutes of her being on screen. There was no build, nothing, so you instantly had this dislike towards her, and then to have to play as that character? It doesn't make the game fun in any way. You can't relate to her at all because she isn't likeable. I can relate to Ellie wanting revenge for Joel. I could relate to Joel in TLOU for trying to protect Ellie. I can't get into the character of Abby at all and it takes away A LOT from the game. The ending also. Oh jeeez! The ending makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Am I to believe that I'm playing as Ellie, a character who has seen the person she practically see's as her Dad killed, Jesse killed, Tommy nearly killed, Dina bludgeoned to near death and have her fingers bitten off in the climactic fight, she lets the person who did all that walk away? It just doesn't make sense! Away from the story, the gameplay is exactly the same as TLOU, and the one gripe I had with that game is the mechanics felt clunky, and at times it feels worse here. The AI is also ridiculously stupid still. Much like Bill and Ellie in TLOU, Dina runs round like a headless chicken when infected and enemies are near and it's really frustrating. There's no doubt it's a political game. It's riddled with it, and there are a lot of moments where you roll your eyes and think, 'was that really a necessary addition'.

The first game lived and died by the development of its characters and the story. Unfortunately, this game just doesn't have it. It's a major disappointment to the fans of the original, a huge kick in the face, and there's a certain stand-out moment during Joel's death where it felt Neil Druckmann was spitting directly in my face (go back and replay/watch it if need be, you'll get it).

I think giving it a 4 is a fair assessment. The storyline and poor game mechanics alone have it that low, and I can't stand politics in movies or games when it doesn't add to the story, but the graphics deserve high praise and that's what keeps this game from being rated lower from me. Will this game make a lot of money? Yes, but not a chance in hell is it the 95+ that the 'critics' have it rated at.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
