Perhaps getting rid of the many secondary characters and revealing it through a deep and natural storyline with Lev could have led to more empathy for Abby. But this is only an assumption.

TLOU 1 was a stunning game with some of the best storytelling, gameplay, and graphics I have ever seen. It sparked the discussion around whether video games are art. In almost all fields, TLOU 1 was revolutionary.

Graphics: This games one saving grace is its graphics, they are magnificent.

First of all, there is a difference between a bad game and a game that you don't like.

I finished the game couple of days ago so, I took a day or two to process my feelings about the whole storyline of this game I feel miserable, sad and depressed, I feel like I have a hole in my chest after finishing the game. No wonder it is facing huge criticism from the fans. I don't think this is a bad game but a game that I didn't like. It is a miserable game and that's how it was meant to be. It was meant to be divisive, it was meant to make you feel the roller coaster of emotions that you were going through throughout the game. I don't think any game has made me this miserable before and that's what this game does well.

This game isn't perfect but just look at the Metacritic scores: 100/100. I don't get it, how?

Also, I understand that there will always be trolls who haven't even played the game yet commenting stupid stuff calling people out in the company for pushing agendas but it is just outrageous calling your ultimate consumers incels, transphobic, homophobic, sexist bots for not liking the game.

Now the ending it leads me in complete despair. I completely understand people who are saying it was a thrash ending. There is a loop of getting revenge, losing things, murder, getting revenge, losing more. Ellie broke the circle finally but it felt like it was too late for that and weird time to break the circle. I wanna be happy that she grew as a person but again I am miserable because she had lost everything to get that.
Now on Abby's side of things. She was a decent character but I never ended up liking her.

The first of half of the game when we were playing as Ellie I thought this was a 10/10 game but when we swapped to Abby I kinda lost interest I am not gonna lie ( the only time I somewhat enjoyed playing as her was when we had to defeat the rat king and WLF vs Scars battle)

I just didn't like Abby although I understood where she was coming from.

Like the surgeon who you mindlessly killed in the last game had a huge impact on the story, I like that tie-up. They introduced Abby at the very beginning of the game and then she kills our beloved character from the last game. The thing I don't understand is why did they think that we will ever like her?

I felt like I couldn't sympathise with her, I understood her but I couldn't connect to her which Naughty dog desperately wanted you to.

You built up this crazy story with Joel and Ellie and then you move into the first game and then move into the second game where you kill Joel right at the start and then you only get to play with Ellie for the first half the game and then right at the end. I didn't like that.

I think Abby could have been a good offshoot game. A totally separate story in the same universe but don't throw her into this. Not with Ellie and Joel.
And what is up with killing all the wonderful side characters? Now, Joel's death is particulars tough to swallow because the way he died was just not acceptable.
The story didn't let him and Ellie explore their relationship. They just cut it off with his sudden death. Now about Joel, he is a hard & tough survivor, always on his game and not trusting people. But all of a sudden he starts acting willy nilly running to an unknown base.
It was forced and little hard to make logic of.
it was a tough scenario I understand like they were getting ambushed they really didn't have a choice. But still, at the same time, I wish his death meant more to Naughty dog.
I wished there were some more things that had taken place before his death
He was the hero of the first game and we lost him immediately.
I appreciate the flashbacks but that does not rationalize anything.
This is a gloomy sad miserable game that scared me and depressed me, to be honest, It was hard to play this game for an extended period because it was so dismal.

As per the gameplay, TLOU 2 is a great survivor horror-based game. The openness, graphic, animations, cinematography, verticality and mechanics.
What else can we expect from a 2020 game?

Verdict: After 7 years of wait, I was not expecting this cruelty. I don't know why Naughty dog couldn't give us what we wanted after waiting for this long.
Imagine how bad the Naughty dog team must be feeling who have worked hard for 7 years and facing such backlash just because of a dimwit named Neil Druckman.

Misleading trailers, editing stills, desperate attempts to lure people in. Very petty and shallow marketing tactics I would say. You already have a massive fan base why would you do that?
Injustice was done to Joel, Ellie and the fans.
The rage is rage and criticism is justified according to me.
Abby geta a clean slate whereas Ellie lost everything including her 2 fingers. Farewell to her guitar skills.

My Rating 5/10 (for the hardworking people behind it)

The original Last of Us released 7 years ago when I was at the age of 14, it has always been regarded as the best game that I have ever played due to it's story telling, world building, sound design, character development, and graphics. So heading into The Last of Us Part 2, I had high expectations of course, Naughty Dog was well established as a amazing game development company that is always pushing the envelope. So heading into the game I was completely left in the dark, I did not watch reviews, or check out any of the story spoilers.

The Last of Us Part 2 continues to push boundaries in regards to the graphics, sound design and overall immersiveness but it falls flat on it's story telling. When entering Seattle and taking in the level designs it's absolutely gorgeous how the game looks, and how it presents itself overall. The first half of the game keeps you captivated, it was absolutely amazing to play as Ellie again. You come to understand a lot more about Ellie and what happened during the years between the first game and the second game. Just as we hit the climax however, the story stops completely and begins the second half of the game. It kills all momentum from the first half and I felt the need to speed past this section of the game so I continue on the Ellie's story.

Abby's section felt slow, I wasn't really invested into her story, mostly because I more invested in Ellie due to the first game. Now I'm not sure if this is the games problem, or a me problem, I just could not get into Abby's story emotionally. I feel like it's partially due to how she is shown during the first act of the story. We see her as cold, and brutal, and then the game tries to make us sympathize with her. I believe if they showed her flashbacks and story first and then Ellie's we would have come to understand her more. I don't hate her story, I just dislike how she is portrayed.

I don't hate the game, I find it enjoyable at times and really amazing in a lot aspects, if Naughty Dog's aim was to make you feel a roller-coaster of emotions, I'd say they did it. A lot of people like this game, and a lot of people hate it, I think the best course of action is to experience it yourself, wither that through playing the game(would wait for a sale) or watching someone play. You make like it, you may hate it, or maybe find it okay, I personally find the game okay, it's a not a bad game, but it's not a good game. It's an okay game. It definitely does not deserve a 0/10, but it does not desire a 10/10.

    Sound: 10/10
    Level Design: 10/10

What is annoying me too is HOW they handled some characters. Characters that suddenly do stuff they did the opposite of in the first game MAKES NO sense. How are you able to mess up characters like that? There is a short * Tasteful Scene* in the game which nearly lead me to STOP playing the game because of how utterly disgusting it was. The end is so bad it questions you why the heck you played the game to get such a dumb ending.

Gameplay: is good if you like the ctrl+c - ctrl+v from the first one with some small changes. This however was not good enough for me. Too easy to do certainly when you had so many years of development!
Graphics and the Level design: The Graphics are gorgeous and the levels are very well made.
Animations: The animations are really well done

The game started very good. When Joel died i had my first "i dont wanna continue" feeling. I was over that a few hours later because i was focused to kill Joels Killers. Ellie Gameplay was really good and i enjoyed it. I looted everything, killed all people quiet and tried to explore everything. THEN the part where Jesse dies.. Everything fine... she found us.. whats gonna happen... 4 YEARS EARLIER. HERE IS ABBYS BACKSTORY. I was so disappointed at this moment and then i looked up in the internet that i have to play as ABBY FOR 10+ HOURS. OMFG. I immediately was dead inside. I hated her so much, not just because she killed Joel. So i fuc...ing rushed through her part, i didnt loot, i didnt kill people... i just tried to run through and continue the story. It was a PAIN......... So until now we have 2 Gamebreaking things. 1. Joels death. 2. 10+Hours abby. Now the real **** is happening. When you are at the Theatre as Abby, YOU HAVE TO FIGHT ELLIE AND KNOCK HER DOWN. LIKE WTF????? That was so bad to watch and just stupid. I didnt care for Tommy tbh... So we are at 3 MAJOR Disappointments... THEN we play as Ellie again. I slowly recover, playing as her is fun, no matter what she does. She wanna find Abby and kill her. She goes through that town and it is SO FUN TO PLAY HER AGAIN. and now the NECK BREAKING for us Players. SHE DOESNT EVEN KILL HER AT THE END. I MEAN LIKE WTF

Despite the controversy regarding the story I thought it was fine. Not great by any means but not nearly the tragity people are making it out to be.

My main issue with this game is the pacing. You play through a good portion of the game as Ellie, investing time and interest into her story, then when it seems the story is coming to a climax you're forced to switch characters to a person you've grown to hate. And honestly, I have absolutely no problem with the writing in Abby's story at all. I don't hate they made me play as Abby. I hate that they made me run through the vast majority of the main conflict as Ellie and when **** finally starts to hit the fan they blueballed me and simultaneously ruins the pacing and momentum the story has been building up to. Mildy annoyed you're left with a half chub from the impending climax, you have no choice but to hate Abby when you start down her story path.
And the writers really didn't do her any favors. The first few hours playing as Abby do absolutely nothing to help redeem her in the players eyes. In reality it just drives that nail of hatred further into your big toenail making you want to run through her story at lightspeed. And when you intentonally compel the player to not care about, or empathize with the character they've been made to take control of, players don't give too **** if Abby redeems herself. You just want to zoom through her story and see how the standoff plays out. Much like an unwanted step-father's attention; it just feels forced.

Now I will say that even though Abby's story gives her some surface level redemption, what really made me come around was how fun the gameplay was towards the end of Abby's story.

You beat some **** ass as Abby. You have some really amazing visuals climbing the skyscraper bridge. And some amazing gameplay featuring action sequences which is mostly lacking from the first half of the game. That is solely where her redemption comes from in my opinion and allowed me to finally connect with her as a character.

Conclusion: With great gameplay, stunning environments, and generally a pretty decent story with fleshed out characters; the real thing holding this game back from being great is, what I can only assume, artistic liberties/choices taken by the games director. The choice to switch to Abby when he did instead of switching periodically just completely stops all the momentum and tension the story has going for it. "Is Ellie finally going to get this ****

"Will the people of Jackson get vengeance for Joel's brutal murder on their own turf?"

"Can Ellie find a way to forgive Joel for robbing her of a sense of meaning from her life?" "Will Abby get bent over a desk by some guy that died 6 hours ago?!?!?"

These are the questions I found myself asking instead of paying attention to what was supposed to humanize an otherwise ****ty person.

ENDING: I've seen a lot or people upset that Ellie doesn't kill Abby in the end. Personally I thought it was fine she opted to not kill Abby. Did I think Abby deserved to die? Yes. Did I want her to die? You **** bet, bud.

The entire duration of Ellie's gameplay we only get flashbacks of Joel where he's painted in a terrible light. (Outside of the museum memory) But finally when we are about to turn that **** Abby's lights out for good we get a flash to a memory of Joel. One where he's not bleeding out on the floor. Or an uncomfortable conversation. We get a flash to a memory of forgiveness. We finally see Joel in a good light, and that's what made me okay with Ellie not finishing the job. Finaly thoughts: This game could have been an easy 9/10 with better direction. So in my opinion its Neil that's to blame for the Lukewarm experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My main issue with this game is some parts being very good, 10/10 even, and others being so unbelievably bad it almost makes you turn the game off. Naughty Dog did an excellent job in a bunch of different aspects, but ultimately failed in the most important one. I want to be clear, I do not hate the story, but i did not love it. I expected Joel to die and so did a lot of fans, and I don’t believe Joel was acting “out of character” for trusting Abby and her people. He had been in a trusting town for 4+ years and if you read the log book, they clearly try to help out whoever they can. However, the way Abby is set up simply makes it almost impossible to like or empathize with her. Joel was simply too beloved to be killed off like he was some NPC. And the fact that I had to play with his killer for 10-12+ hours was criminal. I don’t mind her being a playable character for a short amount (maybe 5-6 hours), but fans were told Ellie would be the only playable character by Druckmann himself so that was a slap in the face. Abby is also just a pretty **** person, the game tries to show you some good things she’s done to make you change your mind but Mel hit the nail on the head when she was **** her out. Naughty Dog also tried to make Ellie very unlikeable. They force you to do horrible things as her then judge you for it when you play as Abby (killing her dog for example). However, I actually really liked most of the new side characters; Dina and Jesse were great, and I think Abby’s crew had some bright spots as well. The acting in this game was some of the best i have ever seen, even with the subpar script they were given. Ashley Johnson absolutely killed it in every single scene. The facial expressions and animations are easily the best i’ve seen in a video game. The same thing can be said about the graphics, sound and music. The world Naughty Dog built and brought to life in this game is absolutely breathtaking, i found myself stopping and just admiring it regularly throughout the game. I have never felt this immersed in a game other than the first installment in this series. I’ve seen some complaints about how the gameplay hasn’t evolved at all since the last game and I don’t necessarily agree with that. While the core aspects of the gameplay may be the same even small additions like prone, dodge, and a knife that doesn’t break every time you use it give you so many more options on how to tackle each level. The puzzles in this game were your typical Naughty Dog puzzles. Not an extreme variety, you’ll get a few dumpsters and some ropes and a few secret entrances. TLOU will never blow you away with their puzzles. This game is rather easy to get lost in, however. Admittedly, I needed the hint feature to pop up on the screen a few times. The enemies in Part 2 suffer from
the same thing they did in the first game: repetition. There isn’t much to say about this, you just fight the same 5 things the entire game, and most of them can be taken out with the same strategy. Human AI is still incredibly dumb with extremely narrow fields of vision. Dogs were a neat addition but ultimately very easy to counter. Overall, i rate this game a 7/10 with the cons being a bad set up for one of the protagonists, Joel dying way too early in the game, the way he died, drawn out sections of the game, repetitive enemies and lazy writing. The pros of this game are the graphics, acting, animation, sound, music, and level design. The story for the game as a whole falls somewhere in between pros and cons.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Setting aside my review not as a fan but a writer. Like many of us, I understand the grief to have lost one of our most beloved character. Joel set us up on a emotional roller coaster that delivered such a beautiful ending in TLOU part 1. As much as I would like to give this story a negative review I truly believe the narrative is remarkable. Yet there is no redemption in vengeance.

The ending left me with one question.. How am I supposed to feel?

Ellie didn't grow from her experience, she simply.. Lost it all. Abby lost her father and all of her friends, yet she continued to suffer. Both characters showed emotional and heavy losses throughout the game but none of these characters were able to grow from their experiences. The game is an emotional wreck and the constant shifts of characters eluded any real meaning that could've made for a more or better less, redemption story.

Beside the death of Joel the only other part of the game that I got emotional on was seeing a malnourished Abby. Only then did I feel for her character knowing that both characters suffered so much. Because of vengeance? To find justice? We're rewarded with nothing but grief.

I feel pity for both of these character.

It feels to me like they were trying to subvert expectations so hard that they lost sight of what the players actually liked about the first game. The story manages to be so slow, yet you feel rushed during certain areas. It's a very simple concept story wise, however it can come accross as lazy and boring. If they wanted to do the revenge anger story line there were other ways to do it that didn't involve THAT scene, but that's my personal opinion. You can tell in certain areas where they are trying so hard to make you feel something for certain characters, which spoils it. They give other characters better weapons and upgrades, just so as you'll enjoy playing as them more. Towards the end it felt too jumpy story wise. What was good about the first game was it only time jumped through seasons and the very start, however I feel like they made left behind, and because it did well, they decided to use that formula. However it doesn't work as well here, it's just so jumpy through many different times that it's messy and disorientating. I am honestly so disappointed. I think there's a way to respect what the players wanted and not pander to them, however this wasn't it. But subverting expectation so badly and so much it feels like a Game of thrones season 8 catastrophe. Naughty dog seems to always hit stories out of the park but this one was a miss for me. The story itself had a good concept, however some of the story dragged on for way too long, which made me lose interest quite quickly. My favourite thing for me about this game, in terms of story, had to be the fact Ellie was left by everyone at the end due to only wanting revenge and not thinking about any of her other friends. Due to her fingers getting bitten off at the end she couldn’t play guitar, which is meant to represent Joel and Cos of that she leaves the guitar and her memories of Joel behind.

However my favourite thing about this game for me was the soundtrack. Oh my god it’s probably the best I’ve ever heard for a game with how dynamic and how well suited it is to the different environments!

    I’d rate this game a 7/10

This game is not as bad as everyone says it is, but it isn't perfect. It is really boring at points, especially in the second half. The combat didn't change much other than the fact you can dodge and go prone. The story was fine, but pretty bad for a Last of Us sequel. The graphics are incredible. Story - 5/10. Gameplay - 7/10. Graphics- 10/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe that the game is not bad. Personally, I liked it.
But! But there are some issues that I put 7/10 on.
    (1) JOEL'S DEATH. Yes, it is terrible and because of this already disappears some desire to play. I don't mind such a strong plot twist. BUT... but not at the beginning of the game! In the end, it would be better or better in the middle of the game, so that the emotions are stronger bursting. Well, also because of his death, there is a lack of a charismatic companion, because Dina is no good as a companion.
    (2) the PLOT. There are a few quibbles at this point:
    1) Trusting Joel and Tommy to strangers (Abby's company).
    2) The final game. Ellie was killing everyone in her path to kill Abby, and she stopped at the last moment. Of course, it could be put down to her comparing herself and Joel to Abby and the Lion. But **** This is such nonsense.
    3) the Storyline behind Abby. Yes, this is an interesting move to tell the motivation of the enemy. BUT it was so boring to play for her. But in places it was really interesting to watch. But other than that, it was boring, and honestly, I didn't give a **** Since I was more interested in watching Ellie's story. We would have done two hours of gameplay for it and everything is OK.
    (3) LGBT. I have nothing against LGBT people. As if who wants who and... Well, you understand. But the game is really too much with this theme. Sometimes there are moments where it was possible not to insert. And with friends noticed that the game has a lot of enemies NPC women.
Well, the graphics and development in the game are great. I liked that we added the ability to crawl and jump over obstacles. I also liked the weapons in the game.
Well, in the end, I liked the game, I got a lot of emotions from it, which made my mouth open in shock, and I can even say that I got a lot of sad emotions from the game, too. Especially after the final game, I couldn't sleep for two hours after that. But TLOU 1 will still be better.
P.S. it is Better to take the game when there are discounts.

There were actually times when I was literally laughing out loud at how absurd the game was getting and my wife was laughing too. In addition, the number of glitches and bugs I found on the sad side. I found one bug that had me actually stuck in a prone position in a truck and I couldn't get out without restarting the game. I found other bugs like infected stuck in the environment and not reacting to sound at all. There was one where i was told to lure the infected out with noise, nothing worked so i had to navigate while looking through a scope to find the infected i was missing. Real fun "rolls eyes". I really find it hard to believe that anyone who is giving this a 10 has played through the 2nd half of the game never mind the whole thing. Here is an example of a non spoiler issue LOL. There is a fence. Character says I need to find my way around. In front of the fence is a garbage can that if the game allowed you to, you could just climb on the garbage can and hop over the fence. There are quite a few of these moments in the game when you are scratching your head saying, "Why would they have me do this when i can just go right there?" I understand the whole suspend belief thing, but when my wife and I are actually laughing...

is the game worth playing? Yes. I think they put a lot of time and effort into the game. As I am familiar with the area in the first part of the game, they did take some liberties ;) If you can overlook a lot of the silliness in the game (I think the general premise of this game was built around a silly idea) it is a pretty interesting game. I am playing it on hard and while the game mentions there are a lot less supplies, I never found myself running out of ammo or resources.

Graphics are excellent, the amount of details are really impressive and animations are at the next level.

That whole think with custom difficulty and controls is pretty nice. And if you have some kind of health issues like blindness or so, you can still play it and i think that is good step forward not only for Naughty Dog, but for whole game industry.

But at the other hand there is a story and story is a VERY big part of The last of us.
From the beginning i thought it's not that bad even though the "golf part" (even it came earlier then every fan expected). But later they just made you do something in the cutscene and wanted you to feel guilty for this and later it just seemed like they're incriminating Ellie for what she did and they where putting this new character in front of her.
We all know that Ellie isn't the only playable character (even though Neil said otherwise before the release), but the other character is completely new, and i think that we played as Abby (new character) for too long and that was unnecessary.

i didn't bought this game because I wanted story of new good-bad character and little bit of angry Ellie, i bought this game because i wanted to see how Ellies and Joels relationship went after the events of the first game and how they continued in they journey and maybe some new characters, but not in the way they would throw a shadow over the main protagonist from first The last of us.
I know that Neil wanted to do first game more like Joels story and the second game do more like Ellies story, but it come out as Ellies and Abbys story and as i said, it was unnecessary.

The way they putted the story really broke my heart and i know that Neil can do better...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t know what to think about this game. The gameplay is comprised of tense stealth segments and brutal shooting and melee combat. The stealth is still as tense and nerve-wracking as it is in the first game and there are minimal changes to combat besides some improved gore, animations and a dodge button.
The guns still feel clunky and hard to aim, the controls still trapped in 2013, whereas the combat feels realistic and as brutal as the developers intended, giving perfect feedback to the weight of the weapons and force of the hits through vibrations in the DualShock controller. Human enemies cry out the names of their fallen companions and the dying cries of the people you mercilessly slaughter make you question why you’re killing them. The gameplay is essentially the same, for better or for worse, with some minor tweaks and improvements. I personally think it works perfectly to create intense action set-pieces (like the car chase or the melee fights with the beefy seraphites) and highly tense stealth segments.

The environments are absolutely stunning, with nature engulfing the urban landscapes even more so than in the first game. The contrast of the grey buildings of Seattle and the green foliage and the harsh sounds of the rushing rivers creates a post-apocalyptic setting unlike any other. The lighting is phenomenal, with rays shining through windows and reflecting off of surfaces in realistic ways. All of this makes for a fantastic world that feels amazing to explore for the game’s 25 hour run time. The story however, feels confused and is riddled with plot-holes and inconsistencies. The story follows Ellie on a revenge plot, after Joel is murdered in front of her by Abby ( another playable character). The first 10 or so hours of the story were enjoyable, well paced and concise including new companion characters who I believe to have depth and be believable. Ellie however, does not respond to situations as she did in the first game. While this could be representative of the grief Ellie feels controlling and twisting her choices and decision making, I feel as though she makes incredibly poor choices that had me sighing or even laughing at times. At what seems to be climax of Ellie’s story, the player is given control of Abby for around 10 hours. This idea seems interesting and nuanced but feels far too long and somewhat frustrating as it cuts off Ellie’s story abruptly. Abby’s story attempts to create guilt in the player, showing that everyone suffers loss and grief in the cruel world of The Last of Us. While this story is rather effective at humanising the antagonist of Ellie’s campaign, showing the reason she killed Joel and her compassion for others, it feels misplaced and ill-paced. Perhaps if it was incorporated earlier or split into smaller gameplay segments it would help the stale flow that the middle part of the story suffers from. The ending of the story is not one I expected, but one I feel is nuanced and unique. It challenges what the player would expect from an ending in a story like this, challenging the morality of every decision Ellie (and the player) has made and how warped her intentions have become due to grief. While many players will feel frustrated or dissatisfied by the ending, I feel as though it provokes an interesting thought process. While the gameplay is perfectly brutal with intense gore and fantastic animations, the story feels muddled, deconstructing characters we loved from the first game and including an overly long segment following characters the player will most probably hate, yet it does have some shining moments of genuinely great story telling and narrative. While it’s certainly not for everyone, I’m sure many people will thoroughly enjoy this game. My recommendation is to play the first game, the left behind dlc and only play the sequel if you adore the gameplay of the first game enough to redeem the clumsy plot.

This game was BEYOND beautiful in the way of graphics, actually a masterpiece 100%. The story has some moments that almost push you to an emotional response that coulda made this a positive review. All in all had the game been more about relations and the complexity behind such relationships they woulda succeeded on yet another master class game. The part that makes this half bad however is the stuff that ignores humans and our complexity and decides to focus heavily on human decisions. While decisions are a part of human complexity, and even something worth dwelling on they decide that the focus will be on decisions that affect themselves(such as someone preferring to be a boy, or individual sexuality) the reason this eats the games strong narrative is that those are personal decisions and don't make anyone harbor care for an individual. For an example, instead of trying to make people feel bad for someone not being excepted for being gay you should just focus on the decisions they made to make them seem cast out, like cutting hair or getting a tattoo that makes the city hate you... i digress. Basically TLOU succeeded so well because we weren't intentionally focused on joel selfishly choosing to having feelings he found a replacement for his daughter in ellie thus saving her at the end in a decision that you come to believe was morally wrong but understandable. This game is different and i just wish it showed more complexity not personal agendas. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Writing this review after finishing the game moments ago. After 30h ish of game time, I can say that I enjoyed most of it, but feel like Druckmann and Naughty Dog owe me a few hours back.

    Story
What I loved about the first game was that it was relatively unique within the zombie survival-horror genre. The zombies themselves were unique, Joel and Ellie had a refreshing dynamic you don't see too often, and the "I'm immune" storyline was told in a new way and went in a direction I didn't expect, which ended up being the main event that serves as the heartbeat of this game. The Last of Us Part 2 has a story that took me 30 hours to beat, but got its message across within 10. After that, when you're reading between the lines you're often thinking "I know... you said that already... we get it... revenge is bad... Abby and Ellie are the same... war and violence is just an endless cycle that accomplishes nothing...". That message in itself is something The Walking Dead has been saying for 10 years, so it's remarkably disappointing to see The Last of Us fall into zombie-genre cliches - after the first was so unique.

What lets down the execution of the story is the way in which it is told. I'm all for a good non-linear form of storytelling, but I think the dominoes are setup in the wrong order here. When the game switches half way through to Abby's past 3 days, you meet a lot of the characters you've already killed as Ellie. This made me form absolutely no emotional attachment to them whatsoever, so I never felt bad for killing them - except for the doggo Alice, she was a good doggo. If the stories were told side-by-side, and we got to know Owen, Nora, Leah and Mel before Ellie runs into them, it would have let those scenes sting a bit for the player - juggling between the idea that you kind of want Ellie to succeed but you also don't want her to kill these people. That idea is perfectly executed when the stories line up though and you're forced to play as Abby as she hunts down Ellie in the theatre. I still wanted Ellie to accomplish her goal so getting me, the player, to play as her opponent trying to take her down was a great touch, and made me do something I didn't want to do - much in the same way as Joel's infamous scene in the first game.

However, this zig-zagging between stories all leads to a fairly disappointing ending. I understand the message of the game, I understand why every character does what they do, and I understand Druckmann didn't want you to really know which side was correct - they're both equally justified and wrong in their actions. But for a sense of satisfaction, I wanted Abby or Ellie to kill the other. Just put a pin in that story. End it properly. If Ellie won, she did it but at the cost of losing everyhing else - revenge made her lose more than gain anything - the point of the game still stands. If Abby won, she's become Joel - and the cycle will likely repeat in an imaginary Last of Us 3, and Ellie would have died seeking revenge - again showing she's lost everything. If the game wasn't so long-winded, I'd be happy with the ending the way it is, but after I've spent 30 hours of my life to ultimately get to an equilibrium that was present 5 hours in, it feels like a waste.

    Gameplay
If it ain't broke, why fix it? The gameplay in this game is pretty much identical to the first, with a few minor adjustments here and there. The weapon upgrade system is the same but with new, sleek animations and the player upgrade system is just a little bit deeper with a lot more options. The weapon selection and core combat mechanics all remain the same, except for the melee combat. Melee has been changed so that more than one enemy can attack you at a time - which is welcomed, and it is now a bit more skill-based than the button-mashing style of the first game. You now have to time dodges by looking at tells from the enemy, and some enemies can dodge and grab you when you try to hit them. I found the dodge mechanic to be... pardon the pun... a little hit and miss. Sometimes you would dodge out the way, and other times I felt I'd still get hit even though I timed the dodge well and moved in the correct direction. This melee system works well overall, but without a lock-on system sometimes you can get hit after dodging because the enemy has gone off-camera and you need to find where they are again. It's a minor frustration, but it happened often enough to get under my skin a little.

Something else that got under my skin was the AI detection. I played on normal difficulty and, while I like good AI when it comes to stealth games, the detection in this game seems a little funky. Blind clickers would often see me when I wasn't moving at all, some enemies would see me through walls, and some can see you from quite a distance away - which isn't an issue in itself, but when your listen-mode seems to only go 50ft or so, it's easy to miss an enemy further away who could be looking right at you.

    - Jane McGonigal “Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How
    They Can Change the World”

The only reason why this game is just mediocre for me is that is doesn't understand why player's enjoyed the first game. The narrative lead (Halley Gross) clearly doesn't understand the medium of video games and how narrative works. She's treating it as it's a TV show and you can see that in the game.

Abby is actually a great character and I really like her outside of her actions in Jackson. But I can't connect with her because she destroyed the hope that TLOU was giving you. Both Halley and Neal went for a Game of Thrones type of storytelling and tried to be shocking and deep at the same time. Again, if that would have been a TV show where I'm passively watching I wouldn't care at all but as a player it feels like a **** writing.
There is no resolution at the end whatsoever. Why do we play games? To feel bad? To see that the 15+ hour effort didn't matter at all? No, quite on the contrary. We play for a play experience and TLOU Part II failed at that.

What bothers me as well is that Abby and Ellie both had so many options to talk about their hate but no, they just keep on killing and fighting. I don't understand why it took Ellie so long to realize that revenge won't change a thing after she's killing hundreds of innocent animals and people just to get to Abby. That's really not the character we met in TLOU 1.

First Joel dies ok but whit a golf stick are you serious? In my opinion i think Joel can dies by a shoot protecting Ellie or something more honorable for this character who only wanted to save a little girl. Second how dare they maje you play with the assasin of Joel and not a little bit time no no approximately 10 fcking hours man so extended and forced. The game its good graphically the game surpassed that anteccesor but in story In history it doesn't even come to a little part of TLOU PART 1. Even doom eternal has more history than TLOU PART 2.

But abby, i hate her, shes a horrible person, then they did Joel dirty, i loved Joel and he always reminded me of my father so to do one of my favourite characters like that and many of others fav, was just not right, why naughty dog? Should of just made a great second game about Ellie and Joel and or even dina, but they didn’t do the game right and then they drag it out so they can make a third game and then get paid more money, also why did they make a sex scene with abby, that really disturbed me, it was so disgusting Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, I've been a huge fan of The Last of Us. I love Zombie anything & have always been fascinated with the idea of an apocalypse. With that in mind here's my review of the game.

    1. The Game-play: Great mechanics - if you liked the game-play in the last one you'll enjoy it here. BUT, the lack of new things you can do is kind of a bummer. It feels like a version 1.5 rather than a whole new game. It can also feel a bit repetitive, which I felt in the last game and was hoping they would address some of the monotonous parts in this game. Also, sound, music, graphics all great, but that's not what made The Last of Us awesome - I mean it helped for sure, but it was the amazing story that captivated players.

    2. The Story: Ugh, where to start. I'm so torn regarding the story. There are aspects I enjoy and there are others I HATE. I'm trying to keep the spoilers to a minimum. The fact that the game makes you play as the "villain" pisses me off. I don't want to play as "her" I want to shoot "her"

Now, addressing Abby, in another game I would have liked playing as Abby. Maybe in a spin off? But not in this game & not in this setting. Also - the whole transgender thing feels forced. It really doesn't make any sense regarding the story. Transgendered people are what? .01 of the population - the odds of someone surviving a fall out of this size is highly unlikely. What makes more sense is Naughty Dog wanted to be the first at something and decided to force it in there regardless if it made sense or what it would do to their story. Lev on the other hand, I don't feel is as intrusive. He at least kind of makes sense. So its not that I don't 'like' transgender characters, but when it feels forced, and harms the story I just cant get behind it.

Also, I didn't love Ellie in this game as I did in the last. Maybe it was more of a problem with how the story was set up rather than Ellie herself. Regardless, I just didn't jive with her like I did in the last game. And Tommy? It was amazing the fake out they pulled, I thought for sure he was dead. Then to see how he behaves? It seemed out of character for him.

All in all I fall somewhere in the middle. The great parts of the game helped pull up my score some but the bad parts greatly hurt my overall experience.

After I finished the game it left me with a bit of mixed feeling. I don't think the storyline is anything wrong. But both Abby and Ellie story should not be shown in the same game. This game should have been standalone Abby games only and the revenge part of the story of Ellie should have been a different game. Expand

I think we were disappointed by this game because the build up this fake plot in the trailers and they gave us the wrong expectations. We all knew this game was about Ellie's revenge and we all thought it was because someone was going to kill the girl in the trailer (Dina) then we play it and they kill joel at the start of the game! What made The Last of Us different wasn't the zombies! It was the characters! We loved Ellie's and Joel's dinamic, i liked that they were fighting because of what happened at the end of the first game and it would have been amazing if they tried to solve that problem between them as they get revenge for Dina, it would have been like meeting each other again, making their bond stronger. I think it was such a waste.
Aside from that, once i accepted Joel was dead, i found really interesting the dinamic of showing us two different POVs but the way they put it in the game didn't work, it's like reading harry potter and when harry is about to kill voldemort you realise you have seven more books or movies with voldemort's POV. No one wants that. No one is going to empatize with a character once the heroe has gone through the entire journey.
They should have mixed Abby's and Ellie's stories so it woudn't be so repetitive and we woudn't have to play with Abby for so long.
I really, really liked Abby's character and her story was really good as well but the way they put it in the game didn't work. Having to punch and choke Ellie at the end of Abby's plot is a thing no one wants to do even if we now know Abby's motives and reasons, Ellie is the protagonist!! We don't want to hurt her, even less using the character who killed Joel!!! Then again, using HP reference, it's like 7 new Voldemort's books or movies and maybe you like him a little more o you understand him but then Voldemort goes and kill's Ron or Hermione, all of that is wasted!!!
Ellie being happy with Dina and the baby in the end and then going back to look for Abby...at that point i just gave up. I continued because i needed to see the end but man, that didn't make any sense.
Why not making a fight like the one in the end but in the theatre insted? Instead of using Abby to try to kill Ellie just let us use Ellie, Ellie forgives her because she remembers her talk with Joel and then that's it.
But no. They killed Joel, Abby is now free with her friend and Ellie is all alone and she can't even play the guitar anymore. I know "life isn't perfect" and "not every ending is happy" but the ending stopped being happy the moment they killed Joel, at least Ellie and us deserved an ending like the one in the farm. Ellie, at least, being happy. Joel died for her to live and now she has to live a sad life. Dissapointing.
I gave it five stars because the gameplay, music, graphics and even some parts of the story are amazing but then again the main plot of the game should have been better after of 7 years of waiting for a second part.

I'm giving it a 5 cuz of all the hard work the developers put into the game. I can imagine all their faces when they were gradually learning about the narrative and thinking to themselves: "all this work man..all this work...".

anyways, I think enough arguments have been made around the plot and story and I for one will never ever relate to what they were trying to sell us by dragging us throughout the whole game only to reach an ending which felt unsatisfying to say the least!. I do grasp the concept of "people not always getting what they want" but it has to be "real". it has to be implemented correctly into the world built around the characters and their personalities and backgrounds.

It's a mess. it's a disaster and quite honestly a total disrespect towards the first game and all its fans.
game-play wise it completely has my respect but story wise (which these types of games are thoroughly based on!) it feels like an icy bowl of tomato soup! it's good for ya, but it tastes like ****

but I have to say...I get the fact that throughout history there have been men and women that decided to burn the world and watch it turn to dust just to make a point. Druckman did just THAT...

Forget about the leaks, SJWs, anti-SJWs, deceptive marketing and all the noise that surrounds a big part of this game's criticism. The bulk of it's problems are it's lack of focus, poor pacing and, ultimately, a poor consideration of what made the original story and the characters not perfect, but great and relatable.

This game has a lot of good qualities. From it's impressive visuals, sound fidelity, visceral combat (on high difficulties), highly detailed vast environments and some really tense moments, The Last of Us Part II significantly improves almost every technical aspect of the original, making the artists the real stars of this show.

However, these qualities aren't enough to carry a broken, messy story, as the game tries to undo notions about some of it's characters, and spends a lot of time brushing through themes that were already best presented in the first game, while also bringing new themes every now and again without time for proper reflection.

For an example, there's a lot of story and gameplay time used at an attempt to redundantly show and equalize "both sides of a coin" – which is not a complicated or new concept, especially after the winter and ending section of the first game – while forgetting the player is already, understandably, biased towards the side they spent the most time connecting to. This concept is made clear pretty soon, but the creators think it's necessary for you to see a whole lot more of it, all while drawing some less effective, fanfiction-like parallels to reinforce what's already obvious and control some of the damage they did themselves. Not to mention, without getting into spoilers, that the main catch of the ending only gets to develop throughout 9-10 hours or so of this twenty plus hours long game, making most of what's been played seem even more unnecessary for the overall resolution, even more if you think that characters had plenty of time to reflect on what they're about to do.

By watching and reading interviews, it definitely seems like Naughty Dog wrote big chunks of this story long after starting development, without a solid backbone to base their decisions on, flip-flopping time and time again about what the core of the game is. Characters only seem to have clear-cut intentions and ideas when writers consider it necessary to deflect criticism about character actions. Otherwise, their motivations are an open-ended world of complex possibilities where you fill the gaps the writers left open.

In short, this sequel will stick with you long after you finish it, but probably because it leaves you wondering what it could have been if writers didn't recklessly place most of their bets in it's eye-rolling shortcomings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, I just beat "The Last of Us Part II..." Where should I start? I feel like, in parts where the game was good, it was excellent! But in parts where the game was bad... It was down right horrible.
The gameplay was fun, I liked a lot of the new mechanics they added, like being able to go prone and the fact that you can be "stealth" in tall grass added a lot more options and the dodge button was a nice touch. I liked... MOST of the new enemies: Shamblers were gross as **** and really fun to fight, Stalkers offered a fresh new type of challenge and they actually jump- scared me once or twice. They did a good job at making the Scars function exactly like the creepy cult that they are: Their whistling gave me shivers every time I heard it. The skill trees were cool and gave a lot of fun options to improve your character. One thing I DID NOT like, was the addition of dogs... They make it VERY hard to avoid the dogs and I did NOT enjoy killing any of the cute doggo's in this game. Over all, gameplay wise, "The Last of Us II" was very satisfying.

And now... The story...... Good LORD, what a mess! The story of "The Last of Us Part II" is full of plot holes, contrivances and conveniences and does not feel like a continuation of the events of the first game. Rather, it teeters on the threshold of being some “edgy” kids DeviantArt fan-fiction. I would say the biggest issues with the story are it's beginning and it's end. The beginning of the game has Joel, acting completely out of character and is way too trusting of these random strangers he JUST met, which ends up getting him killed (in a **** way). I hear a lot of people saying that the reason Joel is so trusting is because he has been living comfortably in Jackson for 5 years... I don't buy this: Living comfortably for 5 years doesn't make you stupid, the story just needed Joel to die (in a **** way) to get the horrible revenge story going.

The middle of the game’s story is kind of all over the place: You play as Ellie for a bit, then the game forces you to play as Abby, Joel’s killer, in an attempt to make her seem likeable, which doesn’t work, at least, it didn’t work with me. I found Abby to be very unlikable. In fact, a lot of the new characters in this game feel unlikable which made their deaths hollow. When Jesse died, all I could think was “Oh no, not… Whats-His-Face.”

And the ending is just… Baffling to me. Ellie and Abby have a brutal fight which during the middle of, Abby bites 2 of Ellies fingers off. Ellie’s goal of revenge against Abby is only a few seconds away……… And she just let’s Abby go. Mind you, a flashback of Joel playing the guitar (Which he was teaching Ellie to play and can no longer do because he is dead and she just lost fingers) is what makes her decide to let Abby go. This woman first took your father figure away from you, she then took friends away from you and finally she took 2 of your fingers away from you. Ellie… Girl…… Having a flashback of your father figure playing a guitar after the person you’re trying to kill bites off your fingers should have thrown you into a fit of rage! But no, she’s all like: “Just go.” And that’s it. All this does, is give Abby another opportunity to come back for you. I can’t sugarcoat it, this game fails from a story perspective, which is a shame, considering the fact that it’s a narrative driven game.

I would give the game a 5: "The Last of Us Part II" is fun to play, but the overall narrative pulls the game way down. My fear is that, if they add a DLC chapter like they did in the first game, it’s going to be about Abby killing Tommy or something. I think the only way they can fix the story from here, is for Ellie to wake up from all of this being a bad dream…

The attention to detail was just incredible, the fighting, mini puzzles etc were all spot on. Unfortunately my experience was dampened by the killing of Joel within the first hour of the game! Like firstly he deserved far more imo. The entirety of the part 1 was spent investing in his character and it left us wanting more. The story follows a revenge plot but dragged on for soo long that i litteraly didnt care by the end! I was over it. To some extent playing as Abby was a genius idea but I feel the order the story follows could of been executed a lot better. The familiar feel of the controls is what reminds us of the original and the addition of new types of infected keeps things interesting. As a game the last of us part 2 is excellent, the graphics are some of the best ive seen on ps4 and the gameplay itself works well. the emphasis on the brutality of melee combat is also a good addition. There are however some major issues with the story itself that i do not agree with. it is not just the events that occur that don't feel right but the pacing itself seems odd at times. some parts of the game feel as if they would work better in a different order. I also found myself enjoying the first sections as Ellie on her quest during the first 10 hours or so alot more than I thought i would given what had happened. However i really disliked Abby and no matter how the character development tried to justify her actions to make you like her it wasn't going to work. I found the latter part of the game where you play as Abby to be a tedious slog that I just put up with to get back to being Ellie to find out what happens next. I was also bitterly disappointed with the end of the game but understood the direction they were going in. Judt finished it and honestly I enjoyed the gameplay and the breathtaking graphics and the world they built is phenomenal but after sometime the gameplay get really repetitive and a bit boring. The story is the worst part of the game. The characters are uninspiring and the way they killed off Joel was done poorly. Half of the game you play as Ellie and the other half as Abby and I hate that I have to play as Abby it gets really boring after sometime and felt more like a dlc and disconnected from the actual story. They try so hard to get you to care about this character and other character that are just bland and it just doesn't work. And the ending was put a nail in the coffin. Ellie killed like 1000 people to get to Abby and when she had the chance to do it all of a sudden she has a change of heart. The theme is just a generic revenge story and you learn in the end revenge is bad. This one was a disappointment story wise Expand

So this game is good and defintely not the 0/10 fans are giving out of frustration which i understand, but its just not right and not objective constructive critisism. Everything under a 5/10 is just not fair. The graphics and environments are beautiful. Voice acting, cutscene and facial aninmations are great and are very high quality, ive nevers seen something like this in a video game. Gameplay even tho it was only very slightly improved since 2013 was also good and i had a lot of fun throughout the game (NPCs were kinda lacking tho). The ingame animation as well as the character models are also stunning, sound design and weather effects are equaly good.
Story: The fact that the main characters are a lesbian and a masculine bodybuilder female dont change a single thing ( I think a hetero relationship might have been even more annoying), but sometimes i had the feeling that it was more about Ellies love life instead of her revenge and mainly at the beginning killed the serious atmosphere and took the spotlight of Ellies sorrow over Joels death. Which btw was very predictable imo (when it was first announced that it was about Ellies revenge my first guess was that Joel is killed by fireflies). The flashbacks and cutscenes are nice but they could have delivered this agenda otherwise without spitting in our faces after waiting 7 years and paying 70 dollars. It was written pretty badly with a lot of predictability, plot holes and poor character choices. Also trying to justify Abby killing Joel with her story didnt work (I stll wish Abby a very slow and painful death) and just stretched the game a lot which has pacing issues. Character development is weird (unnatural) to non existent. Having to fight Ellie and hit her was painful (not in a good way) and i couldnt take that part of the game serious. Dont forget about the unnecessary forgetable characters like Mel and the mexican guy (i even forgot his name). All in all storywise the sequel only damaged the franchise and its characters not even coming close to tlou 1. If u unlike me only bought tlou2 because of the very unsatisfying story i guess it only deserves a 3-5/10.

Larga vida a The Last Of Us.

a very powerful continuation. Naughty Dog takes the theme of the game in a way that the player can identify at itself.

I did not like the game either plot or gameplay. Very monotonous, we just clean the rooms. The graphics are good, artists, animators, programmers are great! Get Drunkmann out of Naughty Dog!!! Sorry for the short review, but this game didn’t leave me any impression. My rating is 7 out of 10.

As far as video game sequels I've played from Naughty Dog, I have not had any complaints as all. The entire Uncharted Series was enjoyable, the first Last of Us game had a mix of suspense and climax, but I have many questions for the Last of Us 2.
I didn't really care if the game was pumped with politically correct narratives. What i wanted was more screen time with Joel and Ellie, and the flashbacks don't really do it for me. There were also 2 things that made this game worse, it was the delayed release date and the false advertising from the teaser trailer. In my perspective, delayed products are always the worse, even when it wasn't even worth the wait. I don't understand why Joel had to die, but we cant do anything about it. The entire pace of the game bothered me the most, because the flashbacks felt like downloadable content. Its like there was another chunk of the story that's missing. I've heard other people say that the game play mechanics and the graphics were outstanding. However, if the story is not satisfying, the entirety of this game is pointless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a potentially wonderful game ruined by the incompetence of its director. The last of us 2 *somehow* manages to be less than the sum of its parts. Gameplay is greatly improved, the graphics are incredible, level design is stellar. Yet I had to stop playing it at the ground zero level because I reached that point where I started asking myself why am I still doing this which is the point where I trained myself to stop playing a game. It is two maybe even three games lazily slapped together for no apparent reason with very little thread connecting them. The characters are impossible to care about. And whatever good will we have remaining from the previous game Naughty Dog (or rather I assume Neil Druckmann) has no qualms throwing out the window.

Ellie is now about as sympathetic as a rabid badger. The chemistry between her and her supposed love interest is non-existent. The only characters that I liked were Lev and his sister. But as I said it is three games seemingly written by three different people or groups of people. If only there was someone that would be responsible for keeping a sense of direction in this game. I don't know, like a "director" if you will. I sometimes wonder if Neil participated in those crunch sessions because the direction in this game seems like it was done by someone who **** off at 16:00 every day.

Another huge problem is that the game is 30 hours long. That might be fine if you are a child. If you are an adult with responsibilities a game has to justify every single of those hours and the last of 2 can make an honest claim for doing that for about 15 of them. The rest is pointless padding that annoyed me the more I played of it. You play as Abby during this part. Which I guess they thought would be kinda cool and that is literally how much thought they put into it. Because it isn't cool. It is pointless and stupid. The motivations of the characters are laughable. Here is what would have happened in reality - Abby comes and kills Joel. The rest of the town including Ellie go **** this sucks" and go on with their lives. Joels death *really* didn't feel like a driving force behind the game. And in about 10 hours it was entirely forgotten with the characters just going through the motions.

Larga vida a The last of us Parte 1 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Took my time to finish the game and I was disappointed with the story and the ending. Game play, graphics are very good 8/10. Story is a 2/10 and that is me being very generous. Killing off Joel is very disrespectful to the character and the players. I don't have a problem with having him die at some point but the way they did it was bad. If they just made last of us part 2 about Abby and Lev's relationship , I think the story would've been a lot better. They could've taken this game to so many directions, but they simply chose the wrong one. A major disappointment after waiting for 7 years. I would've gave this game a 1/10 if I was reviewing it based only on story. But I had "fun" with the gameplay, only. Jump scares and action was great...I don't think I would play a Last of Us part 3 if they decide to continue the story, Because I really don't have any connection with Abby and based on the ending, I don't care about Ellie as well. It was done poorly. RIP Joel... Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. gameplay: Incredible. Sometimes feels repetitive but the firs one too so i won´t critizise it

characters: Bad. The only interesting ones were constructed on the previous game, except for Dina, wich I found cool and a great partner,

story: It was a good idea, but was poorly executed. Abbys gameplay is too long and didnt make it easy to emphazise with her. I find okey that ellie didn´t killed her at the end, but she could have reached the same conclusion at her home. I find really forced the ending and how Ellie losted everything. It is as ND tried to make it sad on purpose, without thinking if it would make sense. I think inclusion wasn´t a problem, but hurts me that ND uses their best-seller to shout how tolerant and good they are. Whatever I liked Dinellie and find them as a good couple so ok

Conclusion: The expectatives were too high, and I am sure whatever they made there would be discontent fans. it was a good game, but OF COURSE is not the masterpiece everybody is talking about. Is not normal how much hate is recieving, and neither the 95 of metascore. I hope they have learned that lying to fans is bad and that they should threat their games with more respect, not to see it only as a cash-maker.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really can't give this game more than a 5 I really can't. To kill of such an important character in the first two hours was just...
The fact that Joel got killed with a golfstick makes it even worse. The false advertisment, the story, the ending, everything about this story sucked. What? Ellie wants to get revenge on Abby and in the end she doesn't even do it. But before that she kills, pregnant woman, innocent people etc.
The character development just sucks, honestly. In the first game, Joel was this very cautious guy, who didn't trust anybody and now he just gets in a room with people he doesn't know and even tells them that they can restock at their base. It just does not make sense. Honestly, at some point I felt forced finish it, because I already bought it.
The game jjst didn't maje any sense. It just wasn't fun at all. The fact that in the end of the game everybody leaves Ellie and she is alone is just... depressing. That's all I can say about this game.

I don’t think the Last of Us part 2 is a trash game. However, it has a very flawed story. It is riddled with plot holes, extreme pacing issues, and uninteresting characters. The game also contains huge sections of the story (I’m talking 12 hours worth) that seem to to progress the narrative in absolutely no way, and seem to only be present to highlight identity politics. It’s a story that loses its focus at nearly every turn and ends up being mediocre at its best. This all being said, The visuals are absolutely breathtaking. This is the best looking game on the PS4 PERIOD. Environments are riddled with detail and the game does a fantastic job of making the world feel very realistic. Combat is also very good here. Every hit has weight, and the stealth rivals Metal Gear Solid.

The Last of Us part 2 has some good aspects. The gameplay, and visual are exactly where they need to be. However, this is a narrative based game. The messy story structure, boring characters, and plot holes make this game an absolute drag to finish. There isn’t much desire to revisit this flawed revenge tail anytime soon. Save yourself the money and wait for this price tag to drop.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
