EA, stop ruining all the franchise i once loved. These business practices have to stop for once and for all. i hated micro-transactions for years now, but I'm glad that now people are opening their eyes.

The more you play, the more you realize that Dice/Criterion completely missed the hook that would keep players coming back. Instead they filled the map with so much nonsense that any feeling of being a bad ass starfighter pilot is soon ended thanks to an asteroid or piece of debris that you couldn't see in a tight turn. The ground combat seems like a spray and pray free for all, with the winner being decided by who has the best cards. The maps are far to big for 20 on 20, and the weapon balance and spread are atrocious. This game is not worth the aggravation the micro trans progression system and gameplay will cause you. Campaign: check, More modes: Check, Dog fights in space: check, no season pass that splits player base: check. They had it! They **** had it! Then the inevitable happens. EA. EA happened. A loot crate/progression system so convoluted it makes playing Battlefront 2 more like my job as an accountant. Great! The heroes are now 75% less credits now. So what!? The main problem is STILL there. Pay to win mechanics in a full price game. Sure, you cant buy loot crates with legendaries. Awesome! Still though people with bigger wallets can still BUY AN ADVANTAGE OVER PLAYERS THAT DONT SPEND TONS OF MONEY ON :LOOT BOXES!!!!!!!!! This is pay to win!!!! So the cost of heroes goes down. GREAT! its a very pretty game but games need great gameplay. fun for a couple hours but then you start to see what all the negativity is about. Gambling really has dug its claws deep into this game. Lots of content is locked and to unlock it either pay money or play for an unrealistically long amount of time. 2 hrs every day for 6 yrs to be precise, or over 4,000 hours. I now see how long that really is.

Goldeneye N64 had better AI. There's about 5 character models for the rebels. I honestly feel remorse for shooting the same Asian female Rebel in the face around every corner. You’ve got the green and red blasters, you’ve got guys with lightsabers, you’ve got the heroes and villains of Star Wars, you’ve got Stormtroopers… at first glance, all seems right as rain. There are moments in combat where the flash of blaster fire and the sound effects all combine to make it seem like all is right in the world.

And then you watch your character move around awkwardly in 3rd person and the illusion is totally broken.

This is a game that awkwardly tries to put on a veneer of being Star Wars, but any sort of abrasion rapidly rubs off the paint and you’re left with something that never feels right. The whole thing feels very superficial, like you are awkwardly puppeting characters who are meant to represent stuff from the Star Wars universe, but you never feel like a part of the universe, or like any part of it is authentic. Movement is stiff, jumping is awkward, you cannot dash around in a satisfying way, and the characters who use the Force and light sabers feel weird as they run around waving their lightsabers around weightlessly and awkwardly zapping each other with lightning.

The whole thing just feels off. It has the veneer of Star Wars, but it fails to make you feel either like a Jedi or like a Stormtrooper.

The single player campaign is in the same vein – superficially attractive, but hollow. You are introduced to Inferno Squad, a group of elite Imperial commandos who realize that they are the baddies and switch sides to the Rebel Alliance after the Empire starts torching its own worlds for no sensible reason but the evulz. The characters show some resistance to just up and switching teams, but it is very obvious where it is going, and the whole thing is really a setup to stick you into a bunch of pretty environments (which have nice visual variety), as well as let you play as Luke, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, and even the latest not Darth Vader knockoff from the Disney sequels. Unfortunately, while all of this happens, it is not really all that satisfying; the missions are all quite visually varied, but in the end you’re just mowing down basically the same people in almost every mission, with the enemies just model swapped between them. There’s no real difference between Rebel fighters and Imperial Stormtroopers, and a few missions that involve dogfighting in TIE fighters and X-wings help to mix things up a bit, but are at best okay.

The story is pretty mediocre, and while all of the locations are attractive enough, it basically just feels like a series of arbitrary vignettes, and I never built any connection with the new cast of characters.

Multiplayer, too, doesn’t feel all that great. There’s a mode where heroes fight against villains, which lets you play with all of the really cool characters, but while this mode is somewhat interesting, it also highlights the general awkwardness of it all. Fighting with lightsabers doesn’t feel immersive at all; the Emperor runs around with his hands stuck out in front of him like some sort of Frakenstein’s monster parody, zapping people with lightning; and characters with ranged weapons feel like second class citizens in that they mostly don’t do anything all that cool, and yet they’re equally competitive with the ostensibly cooler lightsaber-wielding combatants. It isn’t terrible, and there’s some reasonable variety between characters, but it just feels kind of awkward, and it has none of the charm that hero shooters like Overwatch have. Teamwork mostly consists of zerging around the map together as a group rather than interacting meaningfully with your teammates, and while it is okay for a while, it just didn’t hold my attention for very long.

The assault mode – grand battles involving 40 players – seem like a cool idea, but they didn’t feel great in practice. I really liked the idea of it – you play as an ordinary trooper, but every time you die, you gradually gain score. You get more points for killing people and for playing the objective, and when you gain enough points, you can respawn in as a special trooper using special weapons, or as someone in a spaceship fighting overhead, or someone in a vehicle, or even as one of the heroic characters. All of these are stronger than the base troopers, and can help to swing the battle in your favor – but it also means that the other team can get them and (in theory) cut into your team like a hot knife through butter, though in practice, I found that while they were scary, they were often very beatable even as normal troops if you kept your distance and stuck together with other people.

Unfortunately, the sheer scale of these battles made it hard to feel like you were making a difference in a lot of cases.

In the end, Battlefront 2 feels superficial. It has the veneer of Star Wars, but is mechanically unsatisfying.

The only thing that makes people who have too much money and power change their mind is to lose it.

This game leverages one of the most abusive micotransaction systems ever conceived for a AAA release. EA should be ashamed. Only by sending EA a clear and united message can we make them understand that this is unacceptable and we will not stand for it.

first of all i'd really like to say its so nice to finally see professional critics take the cancer that is loot boxes and microtransactions in such deep consideration when coming to a final score. it finally begins to feel like as gamers, critic or not, we are fighting the same fight. this game might well be very good at its core, but the shameless greed will not be tolerated. afirst of all i'd really like to say its so nice to finally see professional critics take the cancer that is loot boxes and microtransactions in such deep consideration when coming to a final score. it finally begins to feel like as gamers, critic or not, we are fighting the same fight. this game might well be very good at its core, but the shameless greed will not be tolerated. a progression system that is tied directly with real money is UNFORGIVABLE. this is absolutely disgusting to say the least.

we even begin to see this type of thing creep more and more into single player games. so youre paying 60 dollars for a game, but to unlock the entire content, you have to pay countless dollars more into what clearly is a gambling system. WHEN WE PAY 60 DOLLARS WE EXPECT TO GET EVERYTHING THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE GAME. STOP BEING GREEDY YOU MORONS OR YOULL KILL THE BUSINESS.

sure, paying more money towards a game after the initial purchase has been a thing for a while now, what with dlc and things like that. but dlc is SEPERATELY DEVELOPED ADDITIONAL CONTENT THAT GIVES PLAYERS MORE OF WHAT THEY ALREADY LOVE. that is the concept. you give them a great game, and then and ONLY then do you have to audacity to ask them for more of their hard earned cash.

the video game industry is currently a toilet. a big dump sits smack in the middle floating in the water, WE CAN FLUSH IT AWAY. together. but only together. weve seen the result of our work with this game, changes are being made, but we have merely won a battle. not the war. these changes dont mean total victory. not even close. we have to push until this turd goes away ENTIRELY.

great games with great potential are being bogged down by these slimy greedy money grabbing systems that, as i said before, are even finding a way into singleplayer titles. SINGLE PLAYER TITLES. this must stop now. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, DO NOT BUY SHADOW OF WAR IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY. DO NOT SUPPORT THESE BLOODSUCKING CRETINS. DO NOT SHOW THEM THAT WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS OK.

it ends now. if it doesnt, video games will lose what they once were, what they once meant to us all. weve already seen the evolution of these loot systems and microtransactions. they started off as quiet and subtle, and slowly have crept up, turning into PAY TO F***ING WIN, ON 60 DOLLAR TITLES.

IF YOU BUY THIS YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. GOOD LUCK TO OUR CHILDRENS GENERATION. THEY WILL NOT SHARE THE FOND MEMORIES OF VIDEOGAMES THAT WE ARE ABLE TO.

Battlefront 2 was created by dice to be better than Battlefront in all the ways that it could be improved. There is a single player campaign, with a fleshed out multiplayer. All around Battlefront 2 looks just like you're in the Star Wars galaxy, and sounds like it too. But EA decided to be the leader in the industry when it comes to new innovative ways to take their consumers money. The micro-transactions that are the bedrock of this game would be shameful in a free to play mobile game. Battlefront 2 was created in a way to take exorbitant amounts of time to unlock anything. Originally EA wanted it to take forty hours of multiplayer game play to unlock Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. That's eighty hours for both of them. All progression is based around loot boxes, ever time you want to upgrade your character it comes down to chance. EA is hoping that after the two loot boxes you open after tens of hours of game play and still not getting what you want, you will be more likely to break down and spend more money to get what you want. The arcade mode, which is an offline component of the multiplayer will not allow you to earn anymore credits towards unlocking loot boxes after two matches. Every design about this game is greedy and anti consumer. Even with EA backpedaling, they are only temporarily disabling the micro-transactions so more people will buy the game. Then when things calm down they will reinstate them like nothing happened. This game is terrible for the gaming industry, it represents everything that can be done to take as much power away from the player in an effort to get you to spend more money to get some power back. If you want game publishers to stop trying to suck you dry for every cent you have do not buy this game. Battlefront 2 is not fun, and it's infuriating that so many things get in the way of you actually enjoying any part of what could of been a fun game. Expand

STAR WARS Battlefront II is the sequel to the $120 Star Wars Battlefront 2015. While EA says that this game had alot more content than 2015 Battlefront, it really doesn't. Sure, it has more maps but none of these mals are really good. Simple features like selecting what map you want to play on, customize your soldier, are all gone. Instead you get to play a random map and everyone looks the same.

There are cosmetic options in the game, but these are exclusive to Luke, Leia, Han Solo, Kylo Ren and Rey. With cosmetic items for regular soldiers like the Officer, is hidden from the player.

The game in unbalanced, you can get killed in 1 shot across the map by Leia. The game features P2W starcards which you can in lootboxes, (half the time you just get duplicates or starcards for a Hero/Villain that you don't even have). This of course makes the game even more unbalanced, for example Chewbacca can stun you and then kill you in a couple of shots.

EA's reason for not making the lootboxes cosmetic only is because, and I quote "Nobody wants a pink Darth Vader". This is the worst excuse I have ever heard, plently of people wants a pink Darth Vader. Plus, if you don't want to add a pink Darth Vader, then don't add a pink Darth Vader. Add cosmetic options for the Soldiers and Heroes/Villains. As I said, there are already cosmetic options in the game, EA is just hiding them from you.

While the game doesn't feature a $50 Season Pass or DLCs, it featured microtransactions (Which EA removed but will add later on).

Please do not make the same mistake as I did. DO NOT BUY THIS $60 UNFINISHED, UNBALANCED, BUGGY, LAGGY, P2W PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A STAR WARS GAME!

The issues with this game stems from the idea of making you feel like aren't doing something right. With the intent of ground combat putting each player into the middle of a chaotic war zone. The game lacks the concept of truly narrowing down to focus of equipment, weaponry and situational awareness.

Now, I understand that many people thoroughly enjoy the chaotic war zones and I love it myself. However, the main issue is that the maps are either too large or too narrow. With some maps only having 2-3 entrances to an objective or others having 15 entrances to an objective. You feel either clustered or experience a sense of ADHD as you're unable to focus on one particular enemy with the worry about 10 other enemies shooting you from behind. It turns a fun-filed battle experience. Into a grenade throwing fest vs having to check your 6 every 2 seconds.

As for space combat, this is where the game really shines. I actually enjoy the space combat and though it feels kind of clunky at times. The overall graphics and environments are beautiful. With the sounds and music to match the battle that you're in the middle of. You feel immersed to the point where the other issues with the game kind of fade away. Giving you a taste of enjoyment for your $60+ purchase.

To finish off this review. With the intent of ignoring the micro-transactions that have been temporarily removed. My biggest issue with this game is progression. As you finish each match. You'll notice that the credits you receive vs the credits you should receive in order to progress accordingly. Aren't exactly remotely close to one another. Honestly, they aren't even in the same gosh darn ball park.

For when the matches draw to a close and you see the 150-380 or so credits rewarded to you. You look at your total count and wonder why the heck you need 4,000 in order to potentially progress your favorite class. Not only is your progression locked by chance, but it takes such a long time to acquire the 4,000 credits time after time again in order to progress. You start to feel annoyed and lose that sense of enjoyment from the game. For when you're in a match and you have a Bounty Hunter star card giving you a few extra points. You'll be shot in the face by a guy with a legendary star card that makes him the most OP guy around. Some stand offs that I've succumb to on occasion. Might as well have been me with a kitchen knife vs a guy with a 50 cal. machine guy behind a barricade.

So in the end, I'll be honest and say that the game isn't worth your 60+ dollars. It's more of a $30 game that looks aesthetically beautiful. With combat being as clunky and annoying as it is currently and the only thing really being of interest is the space combat. You don't feel like you're having a "great time" with the game as you do with others. There's very few times that I've walked away from this game and just felt that sense of enjoyment. It's more like a feeling that I wasted 3 hours grinding for nothing.

PS, the campaign was terrible. I don't even want to discuss it I disliked it so much. Whoever created the pacing of that story should be given in a lesson in story telling. The whole campaign is just one big mistake after another. I'll just leave it at that.

Microtransactions, lootboxes, bugs, pay-to-win, fee-to-pay, grinding, loot crates, star cards, DRM, terrible usage of the license that they have exclusive rights to because they paid more, EA.

    Yes, I hate Loot boxes

There are some users who support these policies. The truth is that it is an evil that consumes the community since they were established in the industry. In a free game it is possible to accept them, but in a long-awaited game that is worth at least 60 dollars, it is a mockery for the community. I have returned the game, because the prizes in the boxes

We must prevent this fcking lootbox system futher! especially pay-2-win system in AAA muliplayer 60-bucks product! Next time publishers (not developers) will think twice before making lootboxes again. DLC is ok but this sh*t is ridicolous!

Even with the horrible progression system aside, the story is boring and the gunplay is mediocre at best, please hire the writes of SWKOTOR if you want an actual compelling story in a star wars game.

Shocking! Greed has got in the way of a game. We were promised single-player, so they create a drab short campaign, really? Boycott EA everyone, starting with this game!

Hey EA, up yours, you knew that you could have swayed this entire market in your favour if you didn't pull it, but now look, 0.8 user score on metacritic, 5,000 people went out of their way to say you suck, you can't fix this, and also, you're all cun†s for buying respawn, ƒuck you

The reason this piece of sh*t gets 1 star instead of 0 is because the graphics, like the first game, are amazing. The actual game though, is a steaming how pile of horse sh*t. The "progression" IS LOOTBOXES! LEGIT! I don't mind loot boxes being in a game, but when lootboxes ARE the game, you've got a huge problem.
I was super hyped about this game. twice as many maps as the first, all

I was super hyped about this game. twice as many maps as the first, all three eras, and NO SEASON PASS! Shutup and take my money! But then they had to ruin what could have been a great Star Wars game with pay2win lootboxes. There's legit a star card (Which you get from lootboxes) That gives you MORE AIM ASSIST! WTF!? I refuse to support this kind of bullsh*t that EA is trying to give us. If you care at all about the future of gaming, DO NOT BUY OR SUPPORT GAMES LIKE THIS! This is just ridiculous and I hope the 2,000 negative reviews are a huge wake up call for EA and other greedy companies like this. Don't support these greedy bastards, this is unacceptable.
Oh, and if you were thinking about buying it for the campaign, don't. It's really not that great, and definitely not worth giving EA $60 for.
So to sum it all up, this game might be the most insulting thing to ever be produced by any AAA company, and should not be supported in anyway. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, and for the love of God, DO NOT BUY LOOTBOXES! I don't know how to end this thing. uhhhhh, f*** you EA.

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
