I will not play a pay 2 win game. Disabling micro-purchases on launch is not a fix, it's a trap :(

I am a star wars fan, thanks for destroying my favorite game EA... thanks a lot. I purchased and enjoyed the first one, but I will not buy this one.

This game is unbelievably pay to win. Its a downright disgrace. No gamer should support this blatent insult to gaming itself, the fact that you must "Grind" for 40 hours just to unlock a hero character that was previously playable in past games (Besides battlefront 1 for the PS2) is attrocious. Don't give into this monstrosity.

Its a trash tier game from a company that builds frustration points into the game so that you will feel compelled to spend real money on it.

Its a trash tier game from a company that builds frustration points into the game so that you will feel compelled to spend real money on it.

The single-player dialogue is cringe-worthy and predictable.

Poorly designed maps favor certain factions and classes.

Poorly designed hero balance. Wookies are OP vs. Super Battle Droids or whatever other hero you play against.

Lightsaber vs. Lightsaber combat is garbage. Whoever uses their disabling power first wins.

You will lose 1v1 battles against people with better Star Cards than you, even when you catch them at a disadvantage.

The score screen is trash tier for a AAA company. You cannot accurately assess why your team lost beyond the Kills / Assists / Score values. Ex; Did the enemy team win because they had an even balance of troops? Did we lose because our team had way too many Heavy Troopers, etc.

There is no in-game communication with players beyond 2 emote commands that have to be unlocked are are more for amusement than actual productive communication. There is no in-game voice chat. There is no in-game communication wheel.

You earn about 200 credits for a 10 - 15 minute game. Trooper Crates (which can contain duplicates) cost 4000 credits. Playing for about 2 - 2.5 hours for a CHANCE at an upgrade is dishonest and irresponsible game design.

When you get duplicates from a crate, the game gives you a paltry amount of credits (about 200). So you just played for 2 hours to get a Trooper Loot Crate. it costs 4,000, and you get 4-5 random items including Crafting Parts (about 50... which can be used to upgrade selected abilities once you reach pre-requisites).

So you can spend 4,000 credits to get back 800 credits, and some crafting parts if you already have duplicates.

Crafting Parts: Upgrades are class / character specific.

Unlock the Star Card Tier 1: 40 crafting parts

Upgrade to Tier 2: 80 Crafting parts Plus: Be Level 10 as a player and have a total of 7 tiers of Star Cards (7x Tier 1 Cards, or 3x Tier 2 cards and 1x tier 1 card, etc.).

Upgrade to Tier 3: 120 Crafting Parts plus be Player Level 15, plus have 15 tiers of Star Cards

Upgrade to Tier 4: 480 Crafting Parts plus be Player Level 20, plus have 25 tiers of Star Cards

So you can't even jump right to upgrading the Star Cards you want, assuming you have the Crafting Parts because you are limited both by character level and the necessity of unlocking other Star Cards to higher tiers.

uma empresa como a DICE não pode arruinar a diversão ao evoluir o seu gameplay colocando microtransações na frente dos interesses dos usuários que já pagaram (caro demais, devido a tantos impostos) pelo jogo que somos fãs.

The AAA industry needs to learn a lesson, but it's not going to happen if people keep defending EA because of the fact that they have a franchise they like. ALL gamers have to band together and take a hard stance on this. Loot-boxes don't have a place in games that charge an entry fee period imo. Now P2W is gone, and i thought Battlefront 2 has been saved. Well... I was totally wrong. 1/3 heroes are OP, 1/3 are situational and 1/3 are useless in almost every situation. AT-ST is totally OP, speeders can ONE-SHOT heroes, and the MTTs and AT-ATs are usually *unbreakable*.

Matchmaking just doesn't exist in this game. Everyone who played more than 10 hours in multiplayer matches, knows it.

General balance is very poor (like I said before). DICE... did you test your game before releasing it? Did you play at least one game? I think you did not. For EA the most important thing is money, ONLY money, definitely NOT players, like they said.

DO NOT waste your money on this thing, what EA names "game", because they will give you a huge piece of unbalanced garbage with poor story and annoying multiplayer. I really liked STAR WARS films and games, but now I like only films.

So you can nowWhile its legacy and metascore will forever be tarnished due to its rightfully criticized faults at launch, much like the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3 before it a lot of work went into Battlefront II post-release in order to turn it into something fans can appreciate. In this case, the game has been almost entirely scrubbed free of microtransactions and P2W mechanics. So you can now experience all of its solid content without having to suffer through EA's greed.

The game's meat may come from its competitive multiplayer, but the single-player campaign is really underappreciated. Set immediately after the events of RotJ, the plot puts you in the role of an elite Imperial trooper during the Empire's final days. I had no previous interest in this is a period of the timeline, but due to the quality of its writing and acting I quickly became invested in the adventure from a narrative standpoint. Not least of all because approaching the conflict from a viewpoint other than that of the Rebel Alliance allowed for some surprising insights into how the other side saw the war, as well as there being cool revelations into things like how all those destroyed ships we saw on Jakku in The Force Awakens got there.

Of course I was also onboard with the gameplay side of it as well. It's a mix of boots on the ground action and aerial dogfighting strung together by memorable setpieces and the occasional chance to play as fan favorite characters like Han Solo or Princess Leia. Essentially, it's the Star Wars themed Call of Duty I never knew I wanted. The brevity and relative simplicity of it's mission design keep it from being terribly replayable however. So in order to get your money's worth you're going to need an internet connection.

The online portion of Battlefront II offers a lot of variety in terms on modes, maps, and playable characters. There's easily enough here to keep you coming back for hundreds of hours. Provided you get past the initial impressions that is. The multiplayer can be tough to get into at first due to how awful the starting weapons are, as well as the upgradable "star cards" that increase your chosen classes' overall effectiveness being locked behind some level requirements that are pretty hefty given what a disadvantage you're at against more experienced players without them. It also has the least reliable aiming I've seen in a shooter's competitive half since Duke Nukem Forever. All of this is somewhat offset by the game's arcade and cooperative options which allow you to find your footing without having to face other people, but honestly has playing matches against AI bots ever been fun?

What makes Battlefront II worth sticking with until you unlock better blasters and find the combination of star cards that works best for you in spite of all this is simply the fact that it's bloody Star Wars. Developer DICE pulled material from across every era of the franchise. Which means you can participate in the biggest battles from each trilogy while being immersed in sound design that's authentic to the films and the stunning visuals of the Frostbite engine.

Most matches start off with you selecting one of four basic troop types. The points you earn by completing objectives and getting kills can be spent on stronger units and vehicles that feel exactly like you would expect based on what you've seen in theaters. This extends to the playable heroes as well. Familiar faces like Yoda, Rey, and more can be selected and act as powerhouses that can change the entire course of a game depending on your skill level. As frustrating as it can be to get repeatedly killed by some lightsaber user, it never feels unfair as a lot of time must be invested in order to master each character's abilities. You can't say they didn't earn the victory as someone else could choose the same jedi and get mowed down instantly. Plus, it makes sense that Darth Vader would leave legions dead at his feet.

The only time all this fidelity is a problem is when it comes to the map design. Each locale is gorgeous and a blast to run around in because of all the little touches that sell the feeling of actually being in the Star Wars universe, but the layouts are faithful to a fault. Their arrangements may make sense for a film, but feel haphazard in a video game. Some locations suffer from choke points and zones that are too exposed to effectively defend or are too closed off to launch a proper attack on. All things that hurt the objective based modes, particularly when they give one team an unfair leg up over the other.

There's plenty one could take issue with in Battlefront II, but it's worst problems (the money-grubbing) are now behind it. DICE succeeded at what they set out to do. Namely, delivering the bombastic thrill of the movies while letting you take part in signature events as a key player in them. As a Star Wars fan, I couldn't ask for much more even if there is still room for improvement.

I don't like online multiplayer games so that leaves me with the single player gameplay here. Because of that, I'm sorry, but paying $60 for 5 hours of gameplay is outrages. Glitches constantly, stuck in walls, and the promise of playing on the bad guys side was only for the first little bit of the game. Boring. Just boring.

A lot of people give DICE a pass and just blame EA which isn't really fair as people forget the reason DICE Devs make games isn't to make the best game possible for some altruistic reason and make themselves feel good. They are professionals who do this to make the most money possible. They knew they created an amazing SW eye-candy and thought nobody would be able to resist it alongside all the hype for the movie, so they could build in a grinding pay to win system to maximise profit.
Some people even give them a pass because they ''suspended'' the loot boxes to deflect criticism on the empty promise they'll fix it. The thing is, DICE has a long track record of being unable to fix even basic problems in their games till about 2 yrs after release (see BF1/BF4/BF3). Something as integral to the game design as the progression system will never be fixed...slightly tweaked at best.
So, this game will remain badly designed (albeit toned down from release date) and the Devs will give the usual BS about listening to the community (they only listen to the shareholders and CEOs) and how the next one will be better. Of course that's what they always say and what they said about SWBF2
I'll wait a few more months till its about a £5 for the 5 hour campaign to get my fill of the eye candy, but that's about it....a second hand copy so the money doesn't end up in EA/DICE wallet and reward their bad practices

Not to mention, the AI was incredibly unintuitive and there were glitches that made me have to repeat entire areas a few times, mainly the unreasonably inaccurate hit boxes that make flying scenarios an absolute chore. The game was split right down the middle between time in game and time in cutscene, which can be totally fine. Except, both were miserable. The gameplay was atrocious and the dialogue was embarrassing. I honestly can't believe a game of this caliber is as unimpressive as it is. We'd enjoyed the beta, at the time, the game graphically was miles ahead of the first installment that we had spent months hammering.

Then the game was released and i was immediately disappointed. Whilst some parts of the game had clearly been improved, too much had been taken away. No character customization AT ALL, fewer multiplayer game modes, I was no longer able to select which map I wanted to play and most unforgivable of all, no Mace Windu or even a Chirrut Îmwe. Even the game modes that were still in Battlefront II had been altered, in my opinion, for the worse. Hero Battle, probably my favorite mode previously had been turned into a three on three button mash up.

Then there's the micro transaction and pay to win issue, enough has been said about that so all I'll ad is that nothing grates me more than being screwed over by the man. A lot of gamer's feel the same way. Ask Microsoft.

The microtransaction issue is a straw man. With that said, the game still has glaring issues that cause it to regress from its predecessors.

    - Where DICE's first Battlefront felt deliberate in its design, the new game design in general feels arbitrary, whether we are talking about the unbalanced implementation of "classes" or the awkward and indistinct map design.
    - Multiplayer strategy suffers from the ham-fisted implementation of player bounds which have poor visual feedback (until it's too late and you've already left the play area), and often change throughout the course of a match.
    - Maps are clearly slanted in either defender or attackers favour but lack "table turning" dynamics that games like TF2 and Overwatch possesses. This is crucial since seniority plays so much of a role in what equipment players possess.
    - The player experience is consistent in bad surprises. The environment collision is absurdly inhibiting of player movement, from tree roots to low hanging tree branches. Placing turrets as an officer is incredibly frustrating as valid placement surfaces are few, far between and unpredictable.
    - Nothing about the mechanics feels good. The jump action only serves to frustrate players as most ledges are too high to scale. The gunplay feels like a chore at all sensitivities. Even placing turrets as an officer unit feels sticky and sluggish.
    - I don't want to get started on the progression imbalance, but it bears mentioning that In single matches better players are awarded with opportunities to use better units. This means that the outcome of the match is often determined upon matching, which by the way:
    - If there is a skill based team matching and balancing implementation it's virtually undetectable. Most likely because Star Cards would slant the algorithm.

... And this is my shortlist.

What about the awaited single player campaign? It's great if you're a Star Wars fan. It's arcady and has its Star Wars moments. But its level design suffers in some areas, mostly in arbitrary enemy spawning which subverts players' ability to develop strategies for a wave by simply spawning enemies outside of the player's camera field of view. (Yes, sometimes even in the same, deadend room as the player).

Everything great or acceptable is largely aesthetic.
    - Rendering is still beautiful, although I feel like the art assets are not as polished this time around.
    - The look and feel is deserving of the Star Wars branding.
    - The voice acting and cinematics in campaign mode are excellent.
    - The variation in settings from each film is a fun addition.

In the end, some improvements were made in giving players their single player campaign and more Star Wars scenarios but at what seems to be the cost of the last installment's solid multiplayer gameplay.

All this would get the title a solid 5; but the now-somewhat-overblown microtransaction controversy warranted another demerit in that it shows how little EA cares about the player experience. This is kind of a slap in the face to both the customers and Disney-Lucasfilm as the latter seems to regard their customers highly in the grand schemes of their business models.

It is sad to see not just EA, but a part of the industry using this "pay to win"system.

EA came a company that went from $8 to $800 million in profits just by inserting the famous "loot boxes" on almost every game they make. Nowadays probably every game they make has it.

I also think that this is a responsibility on Sony and game companies that attracted million of people offering games, not gambling experiences.

The Game has many good Sides. Fantastic Star Wars Atmosphere and good Gameplay. After several Patches now you can have a lot of Fun with it. Microtransaction are now Cosmetic only.
Just look some new Gameplay Videos if you are unsure.
    Just have fun!

This game is broken. Its full of glitches and characters that are so OP it makes the game unfun. Chewbacca can shoot anyone blocking with a lightsaber and the people blocking still take damage. You also have the broken team matching system which will put tryhards and pro's against people who bought the game yesterday making it unfun and unfair. Its literally just EA milking it for money. I do not suggest buying this game. It is a good game and I have fun on it but its got so many problems that it over weights whats fun about it. It needs major repairs and needs a lot of work done still. They need to make Chewbacca a little less powerful. I forgot to mention Emperor Palepetine can't be blocked either and we have the tryhards always going him. Tryhards ruin this game too and make it not fun. You have the all purple card people just being complete dicks and extremely toxic. There is just so many toxic players on this game. I like the game and I've had fun on it but it needs major fixings if it wants to be good. Expand

I love Star Wars and I loved the original Battlefront games.
But Battlefront 2 ist just a horrible mess and the worst game I bought in the last years.
Its not EAs fault (and I hated EA a long time), this game is bad because Dice is a bad developer. The gameplay and balance is the mainproblem, its bad. The game plays like an old arcade run and gun bunnyhop **** game. I really wasnt

Well we all know or have heard of the good old saying “With great power, comes great responsibility”. Well apparently EA hasn’t. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was released about a year ago, which’s predecessor had already disappointed its fan base due to it being lackluster. Numerous people believed EA would get it right and do a fan service for its supportive community, but it didn’t. Two weeks in after the release, and EA already faced major backlashes from its community.

Like in the first game the EA developers did a phenomenal job on the visual effects and the score of the game. Battlefront 2 faithfully captures the feel and looks of the Star Wars universe with its detailed map design and interactables across its universe. Every blaster and droid sounds like they are straight from the movies. As the game tries to make its fan base feel at home in the Star Wars universe, it fails to use the right impersonators for its heroes in the game. Luke sounds nothing like the Luke Skywalker of “Return of the Jedi” and Darth Vader is way too talkative.

The game features various game modes for its fans to play, such as an campaign mode, to dive into the Star Wars lore and a multiplayer mode for its competitive players. The campaign mode itself is a story with an unresolved plot, which leaves its players with an empty feeling. Besides the campaign, the multiplayer gameplay is a good solid shooter game, but the campaign is where EA lost their touch.

The progress system for its multiplayer mode is an unpleasant feeling for the fan base. Working with a random loot crate system isn’t a bad idea and does seem to give an exciting feeling, but it’s with the progress system EA gets it wrong. Next to the standard levelling up, players have the option to get new gear online through microtransaction. The problem is that EA forces people to buy gear that gives people an early advantage in the game. The players went online to sign a petition “Pay to win” to banish the microtransaction in the game. Although EA heard their fans, it didn’t get rid of the microtransactions, but just added some slight adjustments to the microtransactions. Players weren’t happy with EA’s choice and started refunding their games and this led to significant loss in profit and credibility in EA. Now that faith is lost in EA fans have now started to boycott other EA games such as the new and upcoming Battlefield V.

Although Star Wars Battlefront 2 has a solid gameplay, it leaves its fanbase with a gutted feeling. With its unresolved campaign storyline and a multiplayer that is based on microtransactions, the franchise must now look ahead to find a way to redeem itself once more.

In this game I play more than six months , and my conclusion is that the gameplay in this game is gorgeous and graphics, too, and I did not notice the loot cases, and microtransactions than you write negative reviews immediately would wait a month.

We will not buy any of your games again! Expand

This game has improved over time but sadly the damage was already done when they put in pay to win loot boxes at launch.

This game is fun to drop in every few months or so to see the new content but sadly the player base is quite low when I drop in. The game though still feels like the better your star cards you have the easier it is to win, which is at times very frustrating. I

I hope if we get battlefront 3 they will look at battlefront 2 and see what their mistakes where and learn from them.

Great graphics, sound design and a variety of game modes to play with an ok campaign. One of my favourite multiplayer games this generation, massively improved since launch.

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
