I played the beta and it was a fun and beautiful game that looked to be a true successor to the classic Battlefront games. But then EA just had to come in and **** everything up, so I just wanted to post this review to say **** EA and **** their greedy practices. They won't be getting a single cent from me and I encourage everybody to vote with their wallets on this one.

This game could have been so good and would have brought praise upon EA, restoring some of their reputation but they chose to go the opposite route. They need to be made an example of. Do not purchase this game. Do not support anti-consumer business practices. The game is utter garbage.

Honestly just extremely sad that the micro-transaction line was crossed in a star wars game.
Happy that hopefully this is the point that companies might realise how much we object to micro-transactions, but again . . .Star Wars . . .

The games progression is behind a paywall and forces younger players or parents with little time to pay extra charges to progress or loose eeverytime despite skil. These issues have been well documented ion the news and the company behind them is known for shady tactics and seemingly doesn't care. EA is no amateur when it comes to fleecing the customer for all they're worth, but in this case, they have crossed the line. The game is once again multiplayer focused with a short and lackluster single player just so they can say they improved from the first game. They have "brilliantly" set up their game so that people who stick with the $60 purchase cannot possibly win against the other team due to their lack of good weapons purchased by others. They say you can earn them in game, but it's like telling someone they can eat their dinner on a plate if they work for 8 hours first. Not so bad until you realize you can only work three hours a day, and any more time spent is worthless, and with the added perk that if you do put in the work, due to the fact that items inside lootboxes are obtained by chance, you might not even get a plate and so your three days of effort was wasted. EA has implemented the worst form of gambling in their game so deeply, that their game is centered around this feature, and they are using star wars in order to attract the customer. Do not be fooled, the Star Wars brand is not worth this atrocity. Expand

This needs no explanation. They ruined the potentially great game with a terrible business model and a buggy launch. They call all of this a service. That's not a service.
Service is like Splatoon or the witcher 3. Where there are no gold editions, no micro's.
And dlc was either free, or in the case of the witcher 3: the dlc was the size of an entire game.

At this stage I'm unsure if anything can truly ameliorate the ineptitude of EA's handling of Battlefront 2.
What was once such a promising title has now been relegated to the same crude depths as Big Rigs and Superman 64

A travesty for the gaming industry.
Totally Pay to win like a mobile game. It's a shame, because this game had potential, Dice is a great studio, but the greedy cash garbing publisher EA made it pay to win.
I hope this will not bleed into the Battlefield franchise.

I normally don't give bad reviews. I am not the picky type of person when it comes to games, and I am usually able to look past big flaws and still find enjoyment in games. I am a big fan of the Assassin's Creed game series, and I was even a defender of the last Battlefront title.

Gameplay-wise this game is a bit mixed honestly. The progression system is obviously abysmal, and apart from that, the maps aren't much fun. The only maps I really had fun with was thankfully all the Clone Wars maps and the Maz' Castle map. Reseach Base 9 on Endor was a fun concept, but it's so poorly balanced that the second and third stages are rarely reached. All of the space battles are fun, and they actually did a good job (except for the one in the unknown regions, which is too open and chaotic). Blast is back, but the spawns often leave you sorrounded, and you can spawn in any cornor at any time. The grenade spam is not that big a deal, they honestly feel a bit underpowered (except for the epic star card versions which are still weaker than Battlefront 2015).
The gunplay is sometimes good, but it is so based around the same core weapons and abilities that you know what to expect. I played the game for 20 ish hours - made 2 accounts and got EA-Access on both, as well as playing 15 ish hours on the beta. The game is fun, but I must say that Battlefront 2015 had better gunplay and abilities variety. I like the class system although I think they should have rather gone all in with the classes or not at all. This middle thing isn't working.
And I don't have anything to say about Star Cards. In the Beta it was fine, with rares actually dropping a few times and you could get a crate every few games. Now I feel like I can only get a crate once a day (the daily crates dont count as they give 5(???!?)crafting parts and a 5 minute game's worth of credits).
They could have chosen to do a meaningful loot system with cosmetic items, clone trooper color schemes, Stormtrooper customizable shoulder pads, Rebels/resistance forces with different faces and uniforms and so on. But they had to go this way.
This review will probably get lost, but I hope you'll like or dislike if you end up doing it anyways

Lootboxes at their worst, yet typical for EA. They could have worked out a better way to get extra money from the game, so the people who already paid full price would not feel forced to pay possibly thousands of dollars (no joke, unlocking everything costs over a thousand dollars). It's a shame that we waited so long for a game that is a shell of the original. It's a pay to win Mobil game that is being sold as a full price game.

It either takes thousands of hours or thousands of dollars to unlock the most useful items.

    Campaign is mediocre at best.

Voice acting is sub-par and gameplay isn't really all that engaging. There are also a good few sections of filler where you just kill stuff in waves, or follow someone. Both of these go towards trying to extend a stupidly short campaign. It's seriously way too short. Arcade mode is meh, and the game forces you away from it if you wish to progress at all

Arcade mode is meh, and the game forces you away from it if you wish to progress at all (5 scenarios for 500cr, then a 22 hour cool down.)

Multiplayer is beyond imbalanced when you're first starting, people dominate you with higher levelled cards. You can be using the same weapon and shoot first, and still lose a gun fight.

Pair all of the above with a terrible progression system and DICE have a lot to fix.

edit: as an addition to the above, DICE have removed the ability to purchase "Crystals" (the in game currency) temporarily. They have issued no clear statement as to how they will be fixing the game, but they have mentioned the crystals will be reintroduced at a later date (I'd give it around a month.)

I'd also take care to check whether reviews you watch on YouTube come from "EA Game Changers" who are paid by EA. You cannot take their reviews seriously as I do not believe they are impartial.

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.
