This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This game supposed to become the title of the year as mimimum... Awful Pay2Win system breaks any view on a good PC game. EA killed many universes, so Star Wars will be next. I bought this game on PC and PS4 and will return in Origin. Biggest shame for AAA-project

To start with I'd like to say how great the gameplay, soundtrack and graphics are. They are amazing ! However the progression system in this game is AWFULL (notice capital letters) and is exactly like that of a free mobile game. They are amazing ! However the progression system in this game is AWFULL (notice capital letters) and is exactly like that of a free mobile game. Nothing (besides weapons) can be unlocked through gameplay everything else must be obtained via loot boxes (an in-game slot machine) or bought with credits ( heroes). The loot boxes are the progression ! This makes unlocking anything both random and unrewarding. To make matters worse the price of these boxes is incredibly high 2000-4000 credits each compared to the meagre (capped) amount of credits you earned at the end of each match.

However you'll be surprised to find out that buying loot boxes is quite easy during the first 10-20 hours of playing this game and you'll be buying 3to4 crates/hour. This is because your earning extra credits from levelling up and accomplishing various in game challenges but please rest assured that these do run out after some time and you'll find yourself opening 1 crate every 2.5 hours and this starts to make micro transactions so much more appealing. And I hear you saying:
"But surely, if I play better I'll get more credits at the end of each match so clearly this 1crate/2.5hour doesn't apply to me !".
Sadly no, the amount of credits you get is solely based on time you spend in game so you literally cannot go any faster. The ONLY way you can accelerate this process is by buying crates with real world money This is crazy ! This is a 60 $ game not a mobile game! This progression system is the worst I've ever seen in a AAA game, its just like a free to play game its been made deliberately unbearable to entice you to spend your money to progress faster. (When I mean unbearably slow I mean about 4500 hours to unlock everything in game at this 1crate/2.5 hours rate)

"But surely the developers have to make money somewhere if they are to make free DLC like they promised, why should we complain it's a fair deal ?

Yes, developing a game costs money but there is no need to implement micro transactions this aggressively there are other models that don't ruin the experience for everyone by making progression so slow in order to make you want to pay money to progress faster.

"Pay money to progress faster ? Is this pay to win ?"

Well now you mention it... Yes it is ! you can literally pay money to open crates which contain cards which give statistical advantages to you as a player : bigger blast radius for explosives, faster ships, faster fire rate, , slower cool downs on your abilities, longer effect for your abilities, more health, longer range for your abilities, ... etc. You can pay your way to victory. If two players of equal skill face off the one who's invested an extra 100 $ will win.

For me this is the final blow there are other things I can do with my free time than getting frustrated over a Star wars game that has been tailored to make me fell frustrated enough in order to make me want to pay money in microtransactions AFTER I've paid the the full price tag. This has just left me with a sour taste in my mouth and no desire to actually play the game anymore.

    gameplay 10/10
    graphics 10/10
    sound&music 10/10
    microtransactions & progression 0/10

It's such a shame but I can't give this more than a 1 simply because it's not fun. It's deeply frustrating in it's current state ! The progression system ruins the entire experience and If it were to be fixed I would buy it without the slightest hesitation.

Disney should never have given them exclusive license. They're use of loot crates is a blight on the industry and is conditioning children to gambling. They turned a fun franchise game into a pay 2 win format. The gaming industry is more or less dead by greed.

Fan have been requesting a Galactic Conquest mode which was in the ORIGINAL 2005 Battlefront games. We didn't get in in BFI and we expected them to rectify it with BFII. They completely overlooked the "DATA" they claim they check. As a MASSIVE Star Wars fan I was looking forward to EA redeeming itself with BFII. This has become an easy pass. I'll save my $60 for better games without this diseased cash grab.

Game systems seem to be designed to "nudge" players to spend as much real money as possible. Game stinks of "free-to-play" model with $60 price tag. A feature of the Deluxe model over the standard game permitted play prior to official release, and as a result I have spent the last 24-hours playing. However, buyer beware: this is not your atypical high-budget 'AAA' title; this game is better represented by a free-to-play mobile model.

As a casual gamer, I have always been careful to avoid the free-to-play format which recovers revenue by tempting the player into purchasing in-game items and currencies via 'micro-transactions'. The in-game currency can then be used to buy 'loot-crates' which offer a chance to win more in-game items. The process can be repeated if the in-game item you want is not won immediately. Slot machines work in much the same manner, wherein if you do not win a prize you can place another coin in the slot and try, try again. Much to my dismay, this model has become popular with high-budget games such as Overwatch and the recent Call-of-Duty, wherein cosmetic items (think costumes or 'skins', alternate paint-jobs on weapons, etc.) can be won by this gambling process. However, Battlefront II is distinct in that the items available for gamble are essential to the game-play itself (such as aim-assist, damage multipliers and powerful in-game characters).

Don't get me wrong though - the classic Star Wars backdrops and characters prominent in this game were visually impressive. Furthermore, the gameplay itself appeared fluid and characters were well-integrated with environs, despite minor character clipping I noticed only toward the end of my last session with the game. However, after every death at the hands of an enemy character, a small window would pop-up on the screen to indicate the in-game items and and associated power-ups used to defeat me. Despite in-game play timers placed on these upgrades before they can be used, many items persistent on my screen were clearly inaccessible at this pre-release stage of the game, except via micro-transactions. This constant visual reminder of in-game gambling largely nullifies any positive review I could provide about the graphical state of Battlefront II.

Ultimately, as an Australian resident, I was able to return the game under the Australian Consumer Law citing misleading conduct. It was unreasonable to expect that a full-priced game such as Battlefront II employ in-game gambling mechanics to the degree that it governs play. I would not recommend this game and, furthermore, hope that this review stands to support those who have purchased this game and feel similarly mislead.

Con's: Campaign is short, other modes are pay to win - "loot crates" are not cosmetic and translate to actual game power

Recommendation: Wait until it's in the bargain bin for the campaign, money saved can then be spent on "loot crates" and you might be competitive.

    3) Disrespectful, and
    4) Clearly telling me that the creators/publisher prioritises money over integrity.

This feels like a free-to-play experience; when I pay a premium price for a game, I expect a premium experience.

I have to admit, while trying to progress, the system does feel like a prettier version of a slot machine. As progression is tied to randomised loot boxes, essentially micro-gambling, it feels cheap. And to have this variation of gambling in a Disney game is just simply not cool to put it lightly.

The game-play is fun when it isn't influenced by additional real life money.
I do not want nor support the game in it's current state.

The multiplayer may very well be the greatest failure I have ever seen in a video game. Decades of pride and honor that Lucas Film and Disney have spent building and shaping a universe for us to get lost in and what happens when we finally get to have an interactive experience that we can share with our friends in Battlefront II? Nothing. Nothing happens.

The game does not allow you to play your favourite heroes classes like you would be expect. For a game you've already paid money for, EA expect you to pay more. They take advantage of people's love for a series by slapping everything they want behind a paywall. The entire progression system is based around randomized loot boxes that can be bought with real money or earned in-game through HOURS of gameplay just for one. Almost everything you love about Star Wars is in these loot boxes and can't be played with when you first launch the game. The hero classes, which include series icons such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca all require nearly 40 hours of play time for a single one.

I honestly can't believe how bad the practices within this industry have gotten. I want to remind everyone that the best way to combat scum like EA is to vote with your wallets. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

When there are so many stories you can tell in something with such incredible lore, this is clearly a shameless cash grab, for something that could have been a fun game that fans would love and play and eventually praise EA for proving us wrong, right?

They could have made a great game and everyone would have bought it, because it deserved that. Instead, EA chose to force DICE to make a SW games with freemium mobile game mechanics and ALSO closed Visceral Games and cancelled what it would seem like an awesome game, made by the same woman that directed several Uncharted Games and also after they cancelled 1313 several years before...it is obvious that this is exactly what we all thought, a game designed for you to pump money in.

It would have been could to have several different SW games and a Battlefront game, we would have been happy. But when you build a games around loot boxes, this is what happens.

The score is not for how the game is, but for WHAT the games is, a shameless cash grab, a sample of the worst practices in gaming, while proving how some corporate idiots, that do not understand games, can ruin something beautiful!

In multiplayer, you can't even customize your clone/storm troopers or rebel soldiers. Everyone looks the same and you are forced to play as a guy if you want to play one of 3 classes and the 4th class forces you to play as a girl. You cannot choose which eras you want to play. I personally don't like the prequel era but I am forced to play that era whether I like it or not. And I am forced to play a generic male character that looks the same as everyone else, whether I like it or not.

Heroes vs Villains and Star Fighter assault are fun and those are the only 2 modes I play.

Obi Wan Kenobi is not in the game... yea... I don't even...

Now I would have given this game like a 4 rating because they said they will add cosmetic customization in the future and update the game frequently with new content. BUT, with the unforgivable, greedy progression system tied to lootboxes and micro-gambling... I can't I just can't...

TLDR: Campaign is garbage. Multiplayer is ok but no customization and lack of options. Progression system is greedy, evil and micro-gambling is disgusting.

To paraphrase one Hawaii State Representative, this is a Star Wars themed online casino. Pay to win garbage. No one, under any circumstances, should support EA and its vile, predatory business practices.

Please don't buy this game, if you do, you'll be telling EA that it's ok to deliver an incomplete and mediocre game, and then milk the **** out of your wallet with stupit lootboxes. I think Star Wars deserves a lot better than this. Hopefully Disney will do something about it. I really hope that EA loses the Star Wars licence.

Pay to pay is not a platform a big developer should be doing, do not support this and prevent this greedy corporation from releasing more crap like this.

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
