The developers of this game clearly have zero respect for the Battlefront community. Not only have they repeatedly shown that the entire multiplayer experience is just a money-grab, but the way that they're reacted to this whole controversy just proves that they see customers only for their wallets.

The game isn't actually a 2/10 it's more like a 7-8 but we as a community cannot let developers treat us like this. I have always been against micro-transactions and i was looking forward to this game, but after seeing the way they implemented the microtransactions i cannot in good faith recommend this game

The game play is solid and often fun, but everything good about this game is overshadowed by an infuriating progression system that doesn't reward players for skill or success, and a 'card' based loot box system that produces unsatisfying prizes that are completely random and don't reflect play style. Although the developers have recently suspended the pay-to-win aspects of the game, I have a feeling that they've done so just to limit the damage it would have caused to sales during the Christmas season, and will likely re-instate it once they feel like the controversy has receded. I'm giving it a '2' instead of a '0' because I do find some of the game play to be entertaining, but this could have easily been a '10' if EA hadn't spoiled it.

With this title, EA has reinforced the notion that they are indeed the Comcast of the gaming industry.

To start off I will primarily talk about the game itself and not loot boxes. But before that, the game is heavily revolved around these crappy loot boxes which make going against people feel unbalanced and basically cheating, especially in heroes vs villains and starfighter assault modes. You can tell there was no balance for these modes with the star cards. Now for the game itself, IT ISTo start off I will primarily talk about the game itself and not loot boxes. You can tell there was no balance for these modes with the star cards. Now for the game itself, IT IS HORRIBLY BORING! this game is more boring than the first EA battlefront game! The newly added singleplayer is so predictable and boring, I ask my self why even bother to add it in the first place! Multiplayer.....OMFG, it is so lazy, unbalanced, boring, repetitive, and grindy. The maps get old instantly, I got bored of the game in less than 3 hours! The voice acting for Luke Skywalker, Leia and for Han is SO BAD! Lets also not forget how horrible Luke Skywalker is modeled. This game has very little effort even put into it, Don't just blame EA and LucasArts for this game blame DICE as well because they primarily try to make an excuse for no customization in this game when they can quite clearly make certain trooper types canon, Example they made stormtrooper shock troopers and shadow troopers canon! The last thing is you die SO....FAST it is unbelievable the combat in the OG battlefront is preferred just because you stay alive for much longer than you do in this game, the average lifespan of a trooper is an estimated of 6 seconds a pilot is estimated to be about 2 seconds. The only reason I give this game A 2/10 is that the clone wars voice acting is wonderful! The voice acting for Boba and Yoda is great, nice graphics and sound (which doesn't really mean anything to me since A. its a star wars game and B. its made by DICE having good graphics and sound is to be expected), please for the love of god if you want to play an ACTUALLY GOOD star wars game go on steam or GOG and get the OG battlefront games, the jedi outcast games, republic commando, and/or KOTOR(knights of the old republic) becuase at least games were not made by and for hyper active kids who have the attention span of a fly. DId not enjoy of the whole progression system and lootsboxes at all. Even before all this happened, this game is missing a whole lot when it comes down to battlefield games I known to love. The massive levolutions, being able to hide on top or inside buildings... Levels looks beautiful, but are very empty. OK why can't I go prone?? Parachuting from aircrafts after bailing out, I want a immersive experience. The gameplay doesn't feel as flushed out, a lot of character clipping. Don't like the point system they added for characters and ships. WHY COULDN"T THEY JUST RESKIN BATTLEFIELD 4! It would of been lazy indeed on the developers end, but it would of been much, much more of an enjoyable experience if that were the case.

The game was made so that you spend just long enough on it that you won't get a refund. single player was ok, slightly boring. multiplayer should not even have been attempted. you have extremely boring combat, with no skill required (outside of the capability to shoot your weapon and hit the target) on nearly every level you are forced into small areas when you run up, shoot, maybe kill someone, then get shot *dead* respawn and repeat. there is no variance, there is no variety, there is nothing exciting about that what so ever. There few maps and modes to play, but all gets repetitive quickly due to the mentioned lack of progression.
    - The only positive thing I could say is that the game looks nice (which is why I am giving a 2 instead of a 1). But DICE seems to be falling in disgrace, obviously due to EA, a.k.a. the studio destroyer, the ultimate culprit of this mess.

Please DICE, hear me! Why do you make such a good platform for it to be thrown all away from horrible updates and lack of content.

This review is focused on the multi-player aspects within the game. As far as single-player, that was trash from the beginning. EA should have an entirely separate game for single-player instead of overwhelming themselves with to much content to be made in such a short time.

The least they could do is make their product good (after gobbling our money) They also, forgoed bringing in the clone war DLC and in lieu, they are shoving down the scummy 25$ cosmetic crap and calling it a legacy... I was there for the micro trannys and gambling loot boxes... And came back when they removed it... Too little too late 1.) Abysmal single player 2.) copy pasta of a game: essentially BF2 is battlefield 1 with space wizards and space guns
3.) Anti consumer practices for too long Like most games today, those greedy game companies/publishers/stock holders (who never played games in their lives)... They'll just opt to copy paste games with old engines ause the whales with mommy's credit card don't care) not quality content...

I certainly hope people are not shilling for game companies anymore... Bethesda/EA/take2 showed us their true faces = faceless greed

The story is ok but extremely predictable. The characters are pretty good too. The characters in this a game are written pretty and the performance by the voice actors really shines...except for iden version. Iden versio is one of the least likable main characters in a videogame in a video game because she no traits or layers to her personality. She is a one dimensional and was written as a " string female character." I lost interest in her storyline because I don't really know her as person. I don't how she grew upz what did he value, who does she hold dear? These are all extremely basic details in fleshing out a character and they didn't do that. The combat is embarassingly boring and stale. It's a third person with de-emphasized aiming. The game on the hardest difficulty is extremely easy but if you die you respawn at this obnoxious checkpoint. In the final arial battle of the game, I kept on dying 3 seconds after I respawned because the guy kept shooting one hit kill missiles at me. The multiplayer is by far the worst I have yet to see in a Video game. They hamfisted the loot pack system into a Star Wars game except it's not for cosmetics only. You can buy upgrades that make you better at the game. This leads to matches with 2 different players. The players who have the upgrades and kick everyone's ass, and the players who don't have the upgrades and can't do anything to win. The performance are not quite there yet and the maps are linear as hell. Battlefront ii sets the bar for visual design, but there is no substance. This is a terrible game because it twists an old beloved series into a cashgrab and spits in the face of players who fell victim to this game. Don't buy this game even if you are payed to play it. It is all really sad because the game actually looks good to say the only positive thing first, it might not be that long term game, since the game is very simplified and made for a casual audience but then you have the fulltime job grind which is carefully adjusted by EA so that you are one of the few % who indulge in the profitable microtransactions, because it takes so damn long.

This game is a psychological experiment and P2W construct to extract money from whales via microtransactions (or should i say macrotransactions?), neatly disguised in the shiny Star Wars pew pew license with super Graphics and you as player who just bought the $60-100 game have to indulge in a fulltime job like grind to gain gameplay upgrades and at the same time become the 'product' for the whales who buy all the crates they can get day to get all the upgrades and bash all the underequipped players on their paid powertrip. Right there they disqualify themselves, you simply don't put gameplay relevant upgrades into the progression. Evolve made that mistake and now we it here too and it's even worse because it's directly tied to a P2W system.

The point is how EA initially wanted to implement it 40h grind for 1 hero incentives left and right to participate in P2W microtransactions, after such a **** they surely make 'changes'. Probably some low effort number crunches to calm the masses of their gullible fanbase. These changes will be done to 'make the outrage outdated' (google that and read it, it's eyeopening). One of these changes was to reduce the cost of heroes by 75%, which is simply the 'Door-in-the-face technique. First the requirements are way too high, then they greatly reduce it to wash them clean again. It is all thought through and through and aimed to manipulate the gullible. They have a whole division of psychologists and focustest data so the know exactly how they can turn this to their advantage and come out on top.

EA has reached a new low, a new point of moral bankruptcy which is unforgiveable. I for one recommend to make a mark and don't buy this game, as even the purchase will support their holy grail, the 'Games as a service initiative' Where all the big AAA publishers are part of and try to poison a new generation of gamers with this lootbox/gambling/p2W/psychological manipulation filth. Games are starting to be built from the GROUND up to support and encourage microtransactions, Battlefront 2 is the new pinnacle of anti consumer, with Take Two and Activision coming right after.

But in the end it's all about the money and the publishers will bath in the money of all the whales and apathic fans who still buy it and just look away. This is their new target audience, this so called 'new generation of gamers', a mass of dumb gullible consumers who become a bait and 'Product' for P2W whales who wanna live their paid power trip. People need to wake up and boycott this game, EA has gone too far and it only gets worse from here.

So i give this game a 1 for the good Star Wars graphix and hope that DICE can become independend like CD Projekt Red and IO Interactive to show those greedy manipulative publishers the cold shoulder and make games without these restraints. Right now they are slaves for the devil.

But it could be the greatest game of all time at its' core and it'd still be decimated almost totally by what can only be described as free-to-play loot mechanics in a full priced retail game. This means you have to pay to win at this game - you objectively HAVE to pay to compete in the games multiplayer (which, lets face, is what Battlefront 2 is; the single player 'campaign' is negligible.)

You can't realistically grind out the same advantages and use the in-game currency, unless you played 24 hours a day for about a solid year. The game leads you at every turn to spend real world money to buy advantages in the game.

It's... astonishing to me that the gaming industry is this set on crashing itself for the sake of a quick buck off the gullible in the short term. Without the nonsense loot box system, this game would be around a 7 or 8 as you can see enough through the utter barrage of crap that is the loot system that this would be a top, albeit casual, shooter. But I can't stress enough that the game is ruined - totally, totally destroyed - by the loot system to the point of it being basically unplayable by anyone with a rational mind.

So that's the reason for the score - it's a highly polished middle finger to the consumer with the sole aim of milking as much cash from you under the pretence of having 'fun'. Trust me; you should avoid this kind of business practice in gaming at all costs - there's hundreds of other games out there more deserving of your time.

Loot box controversy aside, this is a piss poor Star Wars game. It’s so called “campaign” is a ladder of missions that will all last you about 4 hours. Add that with a story which holds no stakes to care for and horrible voice acting, and you have something that is a shame on the name of the Battlefront franchise, especially with the stories the older games were able to tell. Being a Star Wars fan, I appreciated the nods that DICE left in the game. All in all, this is not a game that is worth your money even if they are cancelling the micro transactions as this game is not completely finished yet. Shameful, EA. Expand

Everthing... I mean everthing is behind some casino roulette reward system. It’s literally an Android or iOS app. You know those app games that sell loot boxes for the best gear or characters;this is the same **** The game is pretty because it’s linear... Anyone can make a game look good if you prohibit players from by using invisible walls... That’s fine but they make it so obvious here.

I highly recommend watching streamers play the game first before you buy and make your descision then. I was lucky had a coupon to get it... 70$ is a lot of money for a game my opinion they don;t deserve my money.

Galactic Assault: Are you the attacking team? Then you're going to lose. Everything is stacked against the attackers.

Starfighter Assault: Are you the attacking team? Then you're going to lose. While you're busy trying to play the objective, all your opponents have to do is shoot you (and AI bots) down to win.

Blast: Oh wow, Team Deathmatch, how original. Now with people one-shotting you across the map because they have rare and epic star cards on their Specialist class snipers.

Heroes vs. Villains: Are you on the heroes team? Then you're going to lose because every single villains has crowd control abilities that can stun lock you. Oh and preorders got not one but TWO epic Kylo Ren cards which make his crowd control abilities nearly impossible to avoid. Heroes get dashes, sprints, a melee charge, and a smoke grenade. Vader can single handedly throw an entire team off a map. BALANCE!

Strike: Mini version of Galactic Assault with fewer players. Attackers might have a chance to win if they're not stupid but one lone wolf can ruin the game for either side.

Then there's the loot box RNG garbage. Straight up statistical advantages per card with no downsides completely designed around forcing players to shell out their credit cards. People with auto cooling weapons, faster firing, and quicker battle point generation just stomping all over anyone who hasn't gotten decent cards. See that guy over there on your team running in circles because he put rubber bands on his controller? He's going to get as many credits as you for playing despite doing nothing for the team but wasting space. He'll earn more credits than you if he was in the match longer than you were.

This game is prettier than 2015's Battlefront but it's just as shallow and even MORE imbalanced - which is a feat given how pathetically balanced the modes were in THAT game. Do not buy this garbage, do not reward EA with your money. I wish I had bought COD WW2 at this rate. That might be scummy as well but it's not THIS scummy.

The progression system is tied to loot boxes which is awful. If you do not believe me then consider that this game started the investigations if loot boxes are gambling controversy in many countries. As sidenote: They asserted those are gambling and should be regulated. A Hawaii representative called the game even an online casino. If you still argue against this just look up how much time you need to unlock everything and / or how costly it is to buy everything. It is a poster child for pay to win. Only as another sidenote: Popular characters are also restricted behind these pay walls and even EA had to react to critizism. Also the story campaign while not awful is a disappointment because we thought and it was made to look like we got the Empires perspective for the main character. There was so much potential in this idea but they wasted this really fast. I still like some ideas, characters and twists however not enough to give a higher rating. Must also say that some twists or story parts are foreseeable from far away but this is not a huge negative. The presentation is superb. The graphics were amazing and deserve praise. I think there were hardly any games that could compete. Overall this could be on many most disappointing games list for the year if not of the decade but the last statement is probably too harsh as the competition is sadly really strong. I give a 1/10 to honor the presentation and dedication. Would the rest of the game be equally good this would be a remarkable classic. Another example how EA works. Expand

So I got baited by the geonosis marketing and fans claiming it’s fixed and patches/updates “make the game good now”

If you’re here looking for recent, relevant reviews, read this to get an idea before you’re duped by these.

Game modes combined with the maps are extremely linear, with the maps being straight compact corridors of doom with escort the payload missions, or larger open spaced corridors of doom in this games equivalent of battlefields “rush” game mode. Two objectives, move on, two objectives.

There is absolutely no feeling of the original battlefront with the captures the flag game modes that allowed for a more organic game mode that could be and flow, making every game feel unique. With the combination of vehicle and ground troop warfare in a larger, more sandbox, game map.

Infantry classes of assault, heavy, officer and sniper...are totally pointless.
The only difference is in their abilities and weapon types which easily could have been all packaged into one generic soldier. No there is no engineer who repairs the vehicles (that you barely ever even see on the battlefield), there is no support who can drop ammo, because ammo is infinite! There is no medic or medic droids, because health can just regenerate! It’s a purely superficial thing designed for you to grind each classes star cards out to get you playing longer.

These on rails, a symmetrical game maps and modes also lend to major imbalances. Where one side is going to win more than likely than the other due to the sheer advantage of choke points/enforcer types their faction offers. For example, the Empire have death troopers as enforcers which are ridiculously more viable than the rebels Wookiee’s. Their high rate of fire and damage output and health tanking can make it nigh on impossible for rebels to pass through choke points on maps like kessle as they can take on four or more guys on their own. Where as a Wookiee can be beaten in a 1v1 if they miss their first shot with their slow RoF bow caster

Sometimes the monotony of the troop game modes can be broken up with heros vs villains, but after just four games of that you know the score. The teams clash, whoever wins that initial chaotic cluster of a fight pretty much wins the game, as they can now move as a group and continuously gank the one enemy who’s the target, rinse and repeat. While the other team will have been split up by the spawns.

Star fighter game modes are also spectacularly bare bones. Which just resorts to the same tired tdm or
Non varied objectives as the ground games...but in space!
Boarding capital ships and fighting the the hanger bays to sabotage from the inside is gone.

and thanks to the experience and unfair advantage of the star cards, you will be facing 7 levels of hell to fight that uphill battle of being a competent pilot. As other players will have better guns, health and abilities compared to you.

It’s the same online missions and objectives over and over and over. After less than a days game time I feel I’ve played everything it has to offer. With not a single game mode standing out to me, they might as well all be tdm in this corridor shooter grenade spam fest.

Then comes the March making, no server browser or customisation options whatsoever. So you will play the maps that the game decides. Sick of kessel ? Tough luck you’ll be playing it five games in a row.

This game is not worth buying or playing. It’s novelty and variety tires extremely quickly.

I was super hyped about this game. twice as many maps as the first, all three eras, and NO SEASON PASS! Shutup and take my money! But then they had to ruin what could have been a great Star Wars game with pay2win lootboxes. There's legit a star card (Which you get from lootboxes) That gives you MORE AIM ASSIST! WTF!? I refuse to support this kind of bullsh*t that EA is trying to give us. If you care at all about the future of gaming, DO NOT BUY OR SUPPORT GAMES LIKE THIS! This is just ridiculous and I hope the 2,000 negative reviews are a huge wake up call for EA and other greedy companies like this. Don't support these greedy bastards, this is unacceptable.
Oh, and if you were thinking about buying it for the campaign, don't. It's really not that great, and definitely not worth giving EA $60 for.
So to sum it all up, this game might be the most insulting thing to ever be produced by any AAA company, and should not be supported in anyway. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, and for the love of God, DO NOT BUY LOOTBOXES! I don't know how to end this thing. uhhhhh, f*** you EA.

Mediocre shooter game play and the story is just ok nothing special.
I know the fee to win aspect as been removed at the moment but the fact that they are going to reintroduce them later does not sit well.
A few glitches are there as well like getting temporarily stuck in portions of the map or on one occasion falling through the map but these can be easily fixed i hope in a patch.

Is giving this game a 1 me being too nice? It feels like it... I try to be forgiving and the kind of player who will play just about anything no matter how bad it is... But I just can't defend this garbage. I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole that's not even my own 10 foot pole... I know I should give it a zero but hey... I'm merciful... So a 1 it is...

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for giving it a 1 instead of a 0 but what can I say? I'm trying to be positive... The game does have decent visuals in some areas at least... That's about it though. Everything else either sucks or REALLY sucks. Like the horrible micro transactions for example.

I'm happy to see the users here on meta critic trash the heck out of this game. I thought they were too nice on CodWWpoo which is also a garbage game.

I wont even bother to explain why the game is garbage in more detail than I already have... It should be obvious to all gamers at this point by now that it's trash. It's so trashy that even gamers like myself who haven't even played the game already know it's trash.

Us gamers have instincts that tell us how bad a game is. You know that feeling where you fear for life when a snake is hissing at you and is rearing it's head back into a position where it's looking like it's going to quickly strike you with a poisonous bite? That's the similar feeling us gamers get when we're holding our wallets whilst thinking about what would happen if we were to buy this crappy game.

You don't have to play a crap video game in order to learn that it's a crap video game. Common sense can easily figure that one out for ya... A little bit of experience in the gaming world and some research about the game is enough to learn how bad it really is. And that's what I have done to see that this micro transaction buffoonery of a game is the devil. A insult to our wallets... A insult to star wars... And most importantly...... A insult to us gamers.

EA died a long time ago and they never were that good to begin with... Now their ghost has risen from the dead and now haunts us with trashy games like this one. Gaming is going through some dark times these days...

Like all AAA games Battlefront 2 is full price, but to really progress or to be competitive in multiplayer you have to pay for loot boxes. Buying these boxes you have a very small chance of getting an item that you can actually use or want. This makes this game very expensive to play.
I am also concerned that with only a moderate ESRB rating, that this game is aimed at young adults and children, and is in fact coercing them into online gambling.

Multiplayer... Buy the game for it. And it's good. It is also very beautiful, the gameplay is good. But! It's PAY TO WIN. People who won't buy loot boxes will lose to players who spend money on the loot boxes - IT's a FACT! There is no normal progression system, like in all games. If you're not in the first place, then simply you will not have points to play a character. It's awful! I want to relax and take in the game, and sometimes play the hero. But if I am not a god in the game, then I will not play a hero. And the gods will be those who will buy loot boxes. It's the least amount of fun I've had playing a video game in some time and to consider that this is a STAR WARS game, I'm astounded by how terrible it is. Not to mention, the AI was incredibly unintuitive and there were glitches that made me have to repeat entire areas a few times, mainly the unreasonably inaccurate hit boxes that make flying scenarios an absolute chore. The game was split right down the middle between time in game and time in cutscene, which can be totally fine. Except, both were miserable. The gameplay was atrocious and the dialogue was embarrassing. I honestly can't believe a game of this caliber is as unimpressive as it is. To feel constrained by a freemium progression system in a full retail game is ridiculous. If the campaign was a thorough and meaningful experience maybe some of the online elements could be slightly forgiven, but this is not the case. Progressing a chosen hero or class is basically rolling the dice or dumping money for better odds. The decision making is largely removed from this system as you rely on randomisation to decide for you how you will progress through the online modes. Yes you can get scrap but this is gained in such small quantities that it’s easy to dismiss as a viable option.

It’s a shame as the gameplay is half decent, but I spend more time being angry at not being able to access or upgrade content that it just becomes a frustrating means to end. In this type of game, gameplay needs to lead to some sort of rewarding progression and it does not. To spend hours playing to unlock some crates and ending up with nothing of value is disheartening and, for me, is a reason to take the disc out and play something else. If a game makes you feel that way, despite how great it could have been under a different system, then it fails a major criteria which all games should have, the element of fun.

There are difficult games I have played that have left me frustrated but a skill check can be overcome. The only way to overcome BF2’s challenges are by emptying your wallet or grinding your way to a point where the game loses all its appeal. EA need to take a strong look at how they want this game to fit in the future. Either by reviewing the cost of crates, removing the feature entirely or making the online element f2p. The most sickening thing is that the online element works like a f2p system. And at £49.99 this has overshadowed everything positive about the game and for good reason.

PLS! ALL! Dont buy this game! If we continue to buy games for $ 60 with microtransactions, then it will only get worse
1/10 and 1 is only for the good game ruined by EA

Battlefront 2, Need for Speed:Payback, Shadow of War

So this is what gamin has become? Full priced $60 games that exploit the addictive behavior in children by creating RNG loot boxes that take so long to grind without paying money that those without the willpower will cave in and spend money. EA is truly the trash of the gaming industry. So sad they are doing this to Star Wars. Disney should be ashamed they allowed EA to have the license. Expand

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
