My online mates had too and everything we had been playing had turned stale as we focused on the November release date. We'd enjoyed the beta, at the time, the game graphically was miles ahead of the first installment that we had spent months hammering.

Then the game was released and i was immediately disappointed. Whilst some parts of the game had clearly been improved, too much had been taken away. No character customization AT ALL, fewer multiplayer game modes, I was no longer able to select which map I wanted to play and most unforgivable of all, no Mace Windu or even a Chirrut Îmwe. Even the game modes that were still in Battlefront II had been altered, in my opinion, for the worse. Hero Battle, probably my favorite mode previously had been turned into a three on three button mash up.

Then there's the micro transaction and pay to win issue, enough has been said about that so all I'll ad is that nothing grates me more than being screwed over by the man. A lot of gamer's feel the same way. Ask Microsoft.

In contrast to the first BF the classes here feel very different to each other, with each requiring their own playstyle. Lightsaber combat could be improved...

Also, to anyone complaining of not ever getting to play as a hero... just play the objectives and you will be paying as yoda or darth vader sooner than you think.

If it weren't for the lootbox nonsense and EA trying to take advantage of kids with credit cards this would be a solid 8.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has clear remnants of actual effort. The game features gorgeous vistas, great sound design and fun gun-play that is to be expected from a game of this era.

However, monetisation of essential game mechanics such as heroes, guns and other upgrades leave the game unbalanced, unplayable and a mess.

    Do not buy this game!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok I hate EA Games all the rest and same thing with the microtransactions so I'd like to review this as what it is now when there is no microtransactions (for now).

Singleplayer content is nice, but the story is same old bad guy turning good bullsh*t like everyother story. It had so much potential, but obviously they didn't want to do anything really creative with it.
Inferno Squad looks stunning, but only few missions until Iden turn her coat. Why the hell did they even market this as a story from the view of an loyal imperial when it's far from it??

Multiplayer has it's ups and down. Maps looks awesome. Details are great, but they are very unbalanced. I have never won't the Kamino starfighter map while playing as CIS (attacker). Never and I have played this game a lot since launch.
Since the Last Jedi season started I've got to play only two maps. Jakku and Crait on the galactic assault. Not sure if intended or just a bug.
Progression is wrong in so many levels. It is based on the lootcrates and only thing that actually progresses you favorite class by playing it is your weapon. Weapons need certain amount of kills to be unlocked and everything else progresses by buying starcards and every starcard bought gives you one level which takes whole idea of "class levels".

If you are a serious Star Wars fan who wan't to play a Star Wars game then go ahead, but if you don't have a huge passion to Star Wars, you should just buy any other shooter game.

Battlefront II is 5 hours of Campaign, 1 hour of Arcade Battle Scenarios and 5 Multiplayer modes. The whole package however is structured entirely around microtransactions and rewards you with loot boxes upon completion of most tasks. In other words, buy this game cheap or don't buy it at all.

They gained 5 points from me because the multiplayer is actually quite fun, more isolated around Galactic Assault and Starfighter Assault. I've had some good games that keeps me coming back to play the game. This game does a good job with the intensity and keeping it at a high level on both game modes. That is about the extent of the good news. Everything else is very blan, unexciting, "Safe" just like their movies are. The Campaign is OK. Not very long, not very emotional, only sometimes exciting, cliche predictable plot and outcome. There are points in the story that really bring you in to the lore of Star Wars but not near enough for even 1 star towards it. The progression system revolving around cards only attainable by loot boxes really brings down this rating. The cards look and sound cool but have little difference between classes or vehicles. Across starting four classes they all have the same boost Starcards with one card having a different name for each class. For ability Starcards, the diversity is limited to cool downs and enhancements with a couple options to change what your ability actually is. Lastly I will mention that other than credits towards buying loot crates, there isn't much reward for you to do better, or be a better team player.

Astounding game! Excellent music, graphics are out of this world. The combat mechanics are excellent. The campaign story is very good - however VERY short. If they've made a Witcher type game with this graphics and story - it would have been 10/10.

I see there are lots of negatives comments - however only about multiplayer. I don't play the multiplayer so can't comment on that.

The story does a good job getting me to care about the characters, however there were moments that felt like they were missing due to how the story constantly shifts between character perspectives and emotions. Iden Of course, the visuals and audio are both stunning, and as a result, Battlefront II feels like a very authentic Star Wars experience. At points, the aesthetics were able to sell moments in which mechanics were very unimpressive, which can only be achieved through some top-notch design. However there were certain moments when even they failed to keep my interest, for example in the beginning of the campaign. In my opinion, this is one of Battlefront II's weakest moments. The first few minutes of a game are some of its most important, and should demonstrate to the player exactly how the rest of the game is going to play out. For example, take a look at how Bloodborne handles its first moments of gameplay. After grabbing basic weapons, the player is immediately forced into a fight against an extremely aggressive enemy. This not only teaches what is important about the game, (the combat), but also teaches the way enemies will fight and how they as the player will have to retaliate if they're going to survive this grueling experience. The first minutes of Battlefront II have the player flying a droid around a ship, which is a mechanic which never resurfaces in later chapters. This lasts for five minutes, after which the player is encouraged to use stealth, which is not a viable strategy in later chapters due to the positioning of enemies. These beginning moments are boring, disconnected, and do a terrible job establishing the rest of the game. The flying mechanics introduced in Chapter 2 are more involved than the first game, however the controls feel slightly clunky which resulted in a few deaths that I thought weren't entirely my fault. The game doesn't demonstrate what it does best until Chapter 3. This chapter and the others like it do a good job putting a unique spin on the mechanics typically used in these games, and as a result there are some moments that are unique to only this game, which fixes one of my biggest complaints about the first Star Wars Battlefront reboot. These sections do get a bit too disconnected at times, Chapter 12 feels extremely out of place, but as a whole they are a very positive addition to the game. Unfortunately, their inclusion means that no mission with Iden stands out in my mind. They weren't technically bad, however they're all very interchangeable, bland, and basic, mostly due to the fact that they're all very linear. There are a few collectibles to pick up along the way, however there are no branching paths to explore, and only a few of the gun battles have an interesting layout. They almost entirely take place on flat ground with cover strewn evenly throughout the arena, as opposed to something like Uncharted 4, which not only had a unique style due to how the hide-and-seek mechanics worked, but also had sections of level that could be grappled, there were slides, and there was some depth to the levels not present in Battlefront II. The abilities somewhat address this issue, but none of them are expanded upon enough or necessary enough to be excusable. The final campaign mission is also interesting because it's interconnected, and is the only stage to actually have a boss during its finale. Admittedly, the boss is very underwhelming and the mechanics are never anything more than the ship combat used in the rest of the game but it was more than I was expecting, which is a sentiment that can be applied to most of this game. It may not be great in any way, however it's enough of an improvement for its existence to be justified in my opinion. The microtransactions are obviously manipulative, and the multiplayer may not be worth playing with them, and the campaign overall felt lackluster and disappointing. So I'm going to give Star Wars Battlefront II a 4 out of 10. Expand

The gameplay itself is action packed and the visual and audio bring Star Wars to life in the same way as the predecessor. This in itself then is a love/hate beginning. Surely with the passing of years this should look way different to the first iteration. The truth is - although spectacular it isn't really that much of a jump from the first entry to the franchise and that raises questions as to whether this is a worthy full price game.

Whilst we are on the subject of price let's address the elephant in the room - pay to win. After dropping the micro-transactions that were built into the game it really isn't fair to call it pay to win. However, what is left is a broken progression system that fails to reward tens of hours of play. Instead of working to earn a particular aspect you are working for credits. These are rewarded in woefully small amounts based mainly on time spent in a game. Winning a game gives an almost imperceptible boost to this but it is basically just time spent playing the game that gives credits. These credits can be saved up and then exchanged for loot crates, each of which contains crafting parts. The loot crates contain other basic items but within a few crates these will be duplicates exchanged for another woefully small amount of credits - nowhere near what you spent to open the crate in the first instance. Basically then a loot box is a key to crafting parts. You can expect between 15 and 50 crafting parts per loot crate. You will need thousands upon thousands of these to unlock items and progress in the multiplayer game. The initial EA idea was that this painfully slow progress would encourage you to exchange real money for crystals which can then be used to buy loot boxes which in turn give you crafting parts. Now, in response to a fan revolt and a slap on the hand from Disney they have removed the micro transactions. This means you cannot buy crystals. You cannot accelerate progress and yet you are still left with a game where the slow progress is a design feature to ensure you are bored into parting with real cash. What is left is a broken progression system...no fast track and painfully slow progress with random unlocks. Within a few hours of play every card in a loot box will be a duplicate and what you are grinding for is these crafting parts.

So, the multiplayer is saddled by a completely broken progression system. What of the single player component to this game. It actually looks good and plays extremely well. That then is the love but as with every aspect of this game there is a hate, even when EA seem to be getting it right they get it wrong. In this case it is the story where fans were promised a trip to the dark side and within just a few short chapters the character has flipped inexplicably. If she doesn't know whether she is coming or going then as a player the same is true and I found myself almost immediately enjoying the gameplay but completely disconnected from the story.

Can the game be saved? It can, for sure, but unfortunately there is no evidence that EA want to make the necessary developments. Weeks in to the game and the progression system is untouched other than very minor tweaks to credits and crafting parts that make absolutely no significant difference to the painfully slow progress.

In conclusion then there is a lot to love about this game. Sadly however there are some hateful aspects to the game design that would be more at home in a free mobile game than in a AAA full price console release. Overall, my score of five reflects the fact that I am enjoying the game but don't expect it to have the longevity I expected unless EA really get to work on the ridiculous progression system.

However, the game did launch with a lot of problems. Yes, their progression system is horribly slow and unrewarding, yes it also allowed for people who paid money or played a ridiculous number of hours to have an advantage in combat, and yes because of those issues the Heroes vs Villians game mode was unplayable because every lobby had people using rubberbands on their controllers to spin in circles so they could get rewards while being AFK. Those are all valid complaints. But they're all fixable things. I have no doubts that EA will fix all these things and release free DLC content as they said they would. So this game does not deserve a less than 1 out of 10 rating that it currently has while I write this.

It is fun to play, it is beautiful, and it is Star Wars.

It's a slot machine that you have to pay 60$ to have the right to play, before it rolls its slots continuously for 40 hours telling you that you'll have the right to win little prizes all along, or that you can feed the machine a whole lot a money and win your prizes right now.

And it works with an associated EA executive telling you that it is for your own good that you have to play 40 hours before you can fully enjoy your paid slot machine's prizes. When he's not offering you to pay right now to get more, of course.

    This is a scam.

    It's not a game, it's a scam.

I don't even care if the game is good or not, that's beside the point. When you scam someone with let's say the promise of getting a really nice car, I don't give a flying **** if the car is good or not. I give a **** that I'm being scammed to get the promised thing, whose real price is hidden behind a fake one. Imagine you're buying a car for 4000$, and then you realise the engine's busted, the tires are dead, and the exhaust is about to blow. Then the seller says "well, you gotta repair it son, it'll make you feel real good when you'll have repaired it youself, you'll feel committed to it." You'd call him a scammer, call the cops and have him arrested for false advertisement.

Now when a game company, I'm sorry i meant Hell's Embassy on Earth, aka EA Games, sells you a full priced game, then says "okay son, you gotta play 40 hours of the game to get the full content you paid for, it'll make you feel real committed to it", what do you do? You can't call the cops, the system is rigged.

But at least you can do something: tell everyone that EA is scammers and thieves, and tell them to NEVER EVER buy from them again. I don't condone piracy, being a game dev myself, but there is no way in hell a company like EA is ever getting a penny from me again. I'll even make a point of it, and if I wanna buy their games, I won't, I'll steal them just like they steal their clients.

Beyond the greed system, the game is full of bugs that seem like easy fixes. I only got it cause i like flying spaceships, but even that isn't worth anything when one is glitch killed constantly. This game is not only ridiculously greedy, but so incredibly half-ass compared to the previous DICE project. It's sad that someone out there is proud of this game

I've player a lot of online shooters in my life, but this was the first time I'd felt like I had no chance unless I bought additional content. It was like being a lamb in a cage full of wolves. Not a lot of fun!

And that's the thing... the game (aside from the short single player campaign) isn't any fun. You don't even get angry with dying over and over. You just feel like "this is the game, and it's sh*t".

The game has beautiful graphics, nice controls, decently balanced team mechanics, and interesting objectives which keep me coming back. The ship portion of the game is fairly well done, as someone who sucks at dogfighting games I am still able to get some kills. The campaign is cool enough but short and definitely up to personal preference. I reccomend doing campaign before multiplayer as it gives a taste of everything Battlefront 2 has to offer. Hopefully we will receive characters such as Anakin, Dooku, Force Unleashed Apprentice (unlikely), or even the legendary Ki-Adi-Mundi. I feel a small amount of visual customization would add tons to the game, I assume it's taking a bit because the troopers change depending on the map. Sometimes the 20v20 games feel short, but it's usually a good thing when the battle is so fun you don't want it to end ;)

Overall I think the unlocking system is fairly simple, easy, and cheap; I would ask for harder unlocks and more credit expensive (maybe vanity?) stuff but I can't tell about 6,373 people are allergic to difficulty in games. I've unlocked all the heroes I wanted in a fairly short time, don't feel the need to spend cash if that becomes an option.

This is only because of people buying incomplete games and paying a lot of extra money for things that should be included on first place. Look at recent games, Destiny 2, Shadow of War... we allowed companies to do this, and if we don't stop them now it will be part of almost every game.

Without the epic gear you are pretty much just cannon fodder, and to unlock the gear you need to play an ungodly amount of time. If you are limited in game play time, such as work, family, etc... don't even bother.

There is a campaign but it is short and doesn't support co op play.

If your going to get a Star Wars Battlefront game I would personally recommend you pick out one of the originals like the first Star Wars Battlefront and the second one the Star Wars Battlefront II from 2005. Also the first two Star Wars Battlefront's had much bigger battles and the graphics still hold up quite well for today if graphics matter to you. Expand

You can’t enjoy the game or progress within it spending a fortune with micro transactions. This game is nothing but a trap for players. Don’t fall victim for it.

Game can be a lot of fun to play

    Cons:
    Lag
    Desync/getting shot through cover/incomprehensible deaths.
Most of the abilities in game are completely worthless
Most of the guns in game are completely worthless
Heavy class weapons could use a buff as most are useless unless you are very close to the enemies and most of the fighting in galactic assault is longer range.
Obviously the P2W aspect but that's since been disabled so far.
There are truly some terrible maps that I just don't want to play.
No voice chat in game, in 2017 this should be standard.
Poor teamwork in a lot of matches because of no voice chat, this leads to frustration, shortening the game's lifespan.
No browsing for certain maps to play
Throwing me into empty lobbies/half full games.
The grind is horrible and it's even worse when you grind a gun to find out it's worthless. I've play a lot already and still don't have everything unlocked....it's the grindiest shooter I've ever played.

Overall I want to love this game by why make so many abilities if they are useless and guns for that matter? Want to be an anti-vehicle heavy? Don't even bother, the ion torpedo hits like a wet noodle, this is just one of many examples, the game is full of flaws and it should have been worked on for another 3-6 months before being released.

Hell, even big rigs, one of the **** games of all time, at least gave me all of its content for free without a 1000 hour grind, or have a predatory lootbox system that tries to be like a drug dealer and give people their next "fix" like GTA and their **** practices making real story DLC no more. What happened to good narrative dlc's like Ballad of Gay Tony. First pay to win full price title. Would you buy chess if one player has no pawns and instead every major unit a second or even third time in his front row because of Microtransactions? Please don't support this greed and buy a used copy, if you are interested in the story.

Si quieres una experiencia de juego completa, y realmente pasarla bien. El precio que tendrás que pagar mínimo serán 300 Dolares (Juego + Loot Boxes). EA = Usura en su máxima expresión

    EA: I NEED MORE GOLD!
Players: ARE YOU **** SERIOUS?! I PAYED 60 DOLLARS FOR FULL-PRICED GAME AND MUST DONATE 2 WIN?!
No, really, EA, stop to kick dicks and make normal game without pay2win system, an idiotic plot, boring gameplay and, surely, without faping on graphics.

P.S. 2100 DOLLARS TO OPEN WHOLE CONTENT?!

Horrible horrible horrible, i never played a game where i have to pay to win! Its a shame Disney let this happen. I got 2hrs in and i will not pick the controller back up to play this incomplete of a game. Shame on EA for even putting this game out.

so bummed. progression system....had to see it for myself...its horrendous. the load times are also insane. i would highly suggest you wait until its a flash sale for 10 bucks. the controls for flying are also different....not user friendly. A game filled with such toxic mictrotransactions and loot crates that governments around the world are investigating the game for gambling. DON'T BUY THIS GAME. It is a full price video game designed as pay to win.

if the game was for free I would like it but for me it is a freemium (f2p) title, for which I pay 65 €. ridiculous! he game wants the buyer to spend as much money as possible. counter strike go or other egoshooters have better concepts.

This is literally the worst game I've ever played. It's complete trash, campaign is like 3 hours long with a TERRIBLE story that bores you to death. Online sucks as usual, just buy call of duty if that's what you're after. Returned it the next day I purchased it. DO NOT BUY.

Dice did an amazing job with the graphics as always but it's plagued with money grabbing techniques... loot boxes like this are not needed in a fps... its pay to win, thats it... good job EA!!! you ruined a great looking game...

Excellent online action offers hours of Stormtooper-shooting fun, but the so-so campaign stumbles, while cynical loot crates leave a sour taste. [Jan 2017, p.83]

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.

Although game has huge problems with p2w microtransactions, it is still a good and fun gameplay experience with stunning visuals.
