If they story han been better told, the game would win many points.
The side quests are too boring, all of them are go de point A to point B a lot of times, they are desperate, besides the side quests of the remants are very very very slow, and you end up hating them. My advice, forget all side quest and only do the missions of the main history
As an exception the only side quests are good, are the ones that tell you about the hidden story of the riddley family, and a lot of times are more interesting than the main story.
The gameplay is the part where the game more advance respect the previous games, The new combat system, It feels more freedom, you must move aroud the enemies and it doesn´t work stay en same cover all the time, But the automatic cover system doesn´t work, and a lot of times you are out the cover without realizing. Other thing negative in the combat system is that you can´t give orders at yours partner for combine powers.
In summary if the game had a better rhythm, the story was a better told, and the side quests were more funny, the game would be much better.

Been a long time Mass Effect fan and while it has some frustrating aspects, it's still a stunning technical achievement and an awesome sci-fi game. Why there hasn't been more talk about the presentation, graphics, and especially the galaxy exploration mechanic is beyond me. The first time I started really exploring it was stunning and intuitive. Also, you more than get your money's worth in overall content, it's almost overwhelming at first how much there is to do and I'm a veteran of big open world games. The combat is great as well once you get used to it and figure out your favorite loadouts and skills. You can tailor all combat encounters to your own personal style and I love that.

The main negatives for me are the story which so far has been just cookie cutter sci-fi stuff, especially the enemy designs and the whole "aliens who left behind monoliths guarded by robots" thing. Really Bioware?? Also, the menus are so convoluted it makes you want to punch a wall and the intricate systems are not explained up front whatsoever. I don't remember in previous Mass Effects having to constantly research online to figure out what the hell I'm doing.

Overall, if you're a Mass Effect fan you will find something to like in the game and it will most definitely keep you busy exploring. It's on par with anything out there as far as graphics, exploration, combat, and sheer size. However, don't expect the greatness level of ME:2

Before starting this review i must inform that i have never played any mass effect game before andromeda, so i can't compare it with the original triology. This a review from an rpg fan who loves franchises like The Witcher, Elder Scrolls and Dragon age.

Mass Effect Andromeda is not a bad game, not a 0 game definitely, but it is just a disappointing game which had so much potential.

Let's evaluate the game in different topics:

-Combat: Combat in this game was probably one of the best that i have ever played, it is fluid and the cover system is very good too. The skills are diverse and some of them amazing (at least in the biotic tree). Firing the weapons feels very good too. However you can only equip 3 skills, you can choose between 4 loadouts, giving you 12 skills in total, but by switching between loadouts you will have a cooldown.

-Loyalty missions: For me those were the most interesting missions in this game, we learned a lot about the crew and they were a lot more complex than just go to pont A and kill the area or find some item.
-Main quest: Overall i the main quest was not bad, the missions were good, but i found the alien race, the Kett, to be very bland, they didn't have personality, i would like to have known more things about these aliens.

-Secondary quests: Unfortunately one of the most important aspects in an RPG was negleted here, the planets quests were boring, i didn't really find excitement in doing them, witcher 3 quests are way more interesting and have more depth. The people that lives in these planets and give you the quests are bland, and there are really no consequences to your actions ( an important factor in an RPG). I would like to have had more interesting quests with consequences that would affect the story of the game, however the impact of thoses quests here was very small (the ending just depends on 2 quests....)

Exploration: You use the nomad to explore the world, and driving it actually feels good, but my main issue in this category was that the planets were very empy, i rarely had interest in exploring the few caves that the game had. Overall the exploration in this game was just...boring.

Graphics: Overall the graphic in this game were great, the views in planets like Elandeen and Havarl were beautifull, however the facial animations in this game were bad, but for me that factor didn't really bothered me.

The crew: Overall i liked the crew, the best were Vetra, Cora and Drack, but others like Liam and Jaal were so boring, hearing Jaal speaking almost put me asleep. Peebee was ok. However i do not know why but i never really connected with any of the characters, in dragon age inquisition i really loved the crew and cared about them but here that didn't happen.

Character customization: very average , the character models are ugly, the hair styles are few, you cannot change your character eyes size and things like that....compared with the character creation in fallout 4 this one is leaves a lot to be desired.

The angara: The only alien race that exists in the heleus cluster besides the kett, overall i found them boring and uninteresting.

The soundtrack: One of the worst aspects in this game, basically theres almost just one soundtrack....the one in the main menu. There is a serious lack of song during exploration, compared with games like skyrim a and the witcher it is a joke, that is one of the reasons that i never really feeled immersed in this universe. The combat soundtrack is nothing special too. During emotional scenes there are times that there are not soundtrack at all, with the adequate song the difference would be huge.

Overall i still could enjoy the game but it is still very far from the level of other games like the witcher 3. When i finished the witcher 3 i felt an emptyness inside me because i spent so many good hours in that game that would miss a lot, but in this game that didn't happen. Still i had some good moments in this game and i spent over 80 hours in it.

This game is truly a masterpiece. While it does have notable flaws in the form of its character animations and overlapping dialogue, these are easy to overlook in the grand scheme of things.

The Graphics: Simply stunning. 10/10 Gameplay: Excellent shooting mechanics and smooth gameplay. 9/10 Open World: Multiple planets to explore with completely open environments. 10/10 Characters:

+ Ending went out with a bang. Really good way to set up for sequel, but could be better if there was more info on the Jaardan

    Cons
    - Main Story has pacing issues.
    - Scanning missions need more work to make it more diverse and deeper . Esp murder detective quests
    - Too many boring side quests
    - too many fetch quests in disguise!!!!
    - The activation of vaults was great and varied, but more potential to explore alien race culture
    - boring world to world scanning chores. Sometimes you get nothing from it. But I can see why it was added as a filler
    - Activating cryo statis pods could make the Nexus more populated.
    - Annoying travelling to and from the Nexus, Tempest for conversation for just simple tasks. They could vidcon instead of travelling to nexus to talk to Director addison or certain people sometimes and it made travelling feel like a chore.
    - The andromeda galaxy needed more alien cultures.
    - Ugly female and male presets in character creations.
    - Sara Ryder could have been prettier if not for those SJW's

I'm not as affected by the animation issues as I grew up with 90s and early 2000's gaming which had little to no facial animations,

But I also miss the cool drop landing in ME3 where you land from a dropship straight into battle. It was an epic feeling which you don't get in Andromeda. It's just the long and slow animations of flying off and landing constantly. It was cool at first, but gets tiring.

    - Story telling lacks a bit of length and main story is too short.

I have a confession to make, this was my first Mass Effect game so my opinion on the game may not be as polarizing as some. So for me, I don’t have the massive disappointment that Mass Effect 2 (regarded as one of the greatest games of all time) turned into this. For me personally, I am coming into this game fresh and so I did my best to keep an open mind about this game.

To start off this game got lambasted with mockery on how the facial animations looked which I don’t think that’s fair and I think its kind of tacky. I try to look at it like games like Uncharted 4 have spoiled us. I always try to do my best to not compare games other games because I don’t think its fair.

Normally I like to talk about the story a little bit in these “reviews” but for this game, I’m not going to bother because the story is forgettable. The characters themselves are also fairly forgettable as well. Although in traditional Bioware fashion, you do get to romance characters so that’s something you can do if you want to.

Right at the start of the game, your first choice is to pick whether you want to be the male of female Ryder. They’re twins so your choice is Scott or Sara. I chose the male, Scott because I’m a guy and I almost always go with the character that best represents me in these scenarios. I know its boring but that’s just the way I play games.

Bouncing back to the Romance options, the person I became most interested in was a character named Suvi. It’s not because the character was necessarily that great, I just liked her voice and more specifically the Scottish accent. Unfortunately, I discovered that Suvi can only be romanced by Sara so she was no longer an option. At that point, I switched focus and had to choose between a woman named Cora who was kind of manly and I don’t like her hair or Peebee who is an alien race and a very annoying character. I ended up going with Cora and as I got to know her a little bit better she kind of grew on me. I think it is important to note that the only reason I even did this was for the trophy. I don’t what it is but watching video game sex (or any animated sex) makes me uncomfortable. I think about the animators staying up late and working overtime just to animate the sex scene. It’s just weird.

Ultimately what kept me playing this game was the shooting. Its a very well made third-person shooter. The shooting is tight the action is exciting and I have nothing but positive things to say about the combat. I genuinely had a good time playing this game because of the combat.

I’m trying to think if this is a game that I would recommend. If you’re a fan of the mass effect series and you like Mass Effect because of the story and interesting characters. Stay away but if you’re in the market for a good third person shooter. Then yes, I would recommend picking this up.

What really annoyed me though was during sidequests... someone would tell me to check my email.. then i'd need to go to a planet and talk to someone.. then i'd need to go to another planet and talk to someone else.. then i'd need to drive for ten minutes and then there'd be a battle.. then I'd drive back and talk to that person again. The quests are prolonged and dragged out unnecessarily. Towards the end of the game I was getting so tired of it. If I keep getting redirected from planet to planet so then i had to deal with loading screen after loading screen. It's bad game design and that's what pushed the score down to a 7 for me.
The combat is great and planetary exploration and terraforming is a lot of fun too. It's disappointing (especially the characters and story) but it's certainly not a bad game.

All in all, this game was a very satisfying experience for me. I am glad I bought and finished it. Andromeda definitely deserves 9. It is my favourite action-RPG game of 2017. The game is extremely detailed - you can learn a lot of things by reading journals and manuals, talking to locals, your crew members and other travelers. So you can get your head in the game.
The only more detailed game I played is Witcher 3. But it was too detailed, to such an extent that I was even bored at the end, trying to read everything and talk to everyone.
Andromeda really made me feel like I was exploring a different galaxy. And this is important. It is an atmospheric game - the most valuable game quality for me.
What strikes me about this game is that there is such a big amount of unreasoned negative reviews. How such a wonderful game may deserve 2-3? Impossible. Even if you don't like the story as much as I do, still it can't be less than 5-6. Developers definitely worked hard to make this game as good as it is. True, it is not as polished as it could be. But still, it is a decent game with many strengths. And like any other game, it has it's weaknesses. It doesn't seem like such a big deal, though.

Well, ok, impression is that Bioware was so bad on funds that they killed an amazing franchise with an amateur semi-AAA release to raise some basic funds. In short: combat is ok, crafting, new game plus, char develoment are quite bad. Beating the game leaves "what the **** impression. While i cant say that story or side quests are generally bad, they suffer sometimes. Voeld is pretty good actually, Kadara too.But general scenario/conception suffer big time. I ll give a credit to scenario team that you realize that you ve been ****ed only around game's end but well. Instead of giving the feeling of satisfaction the game exposes its weaknesses near the end.
Does it worth nearly 100usd/eu - yes definitely. Despite all the **** and all the failed expectations its still a very good game. Its a very poor extending of mass effect franchise nevertheless. But still the game as is with all its flaws is definitely a solid AAA release

The prospect of having a memorable space adventure is exciting to some gamers. Furthermore, many gamers crave action RPGs. One would think if you combined the two this would be an awesome game. Couple this with the storied history of the original Mass Effect trilogy and you’d be puzzled as to why Bioware produced such a disappointing game.

If you’re wondering what makes Mass Effect Andromeda tick then look no further. Stay tuned for this review of Mass Effect Andromeda.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is an action role-playing video game developed by BioWare Montreal and published by Electronic Arts for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

    Story

Mass Effect: Andromeda begins in 2185, between the events of the second and third games in the original trilogy. The four Citadel Council races and the Quarians launch a strategy called the Andromeda Initiative. Each race sends 20,000 citizens on a one-way, 600-year journey to Andromeda aboard their own transportation vessel, called an Ark, and selects a leader, known as a Pathfinder. Shortly after waking from hyper sleep you take control of one of two twins: Scott or Sara Ryder. So begins your arduous journey to populate the new solar system.

    Gameplay

Mass Effect Andromeda plays well for the most part. As a third person action RPG you’re able to run, boots jump, and use powers called biotics. Unfortunately the clunky menus and confusing interface will have you confused. The player can adjust the look of their character, but any attempt will result in a weird mannequin looking monstrosity. The combat might be the best part of this game. The joy of linking your biotics together with your teammates is satisfying and beckons you to enjoy more. Unfortunately due to the lack of a crouch button, constant glitches, and horrible optimization destroys all joy you might feel.

    Graphics

By now the unanimous opinion on this games graphics is quite clear. Horrible is too nice a word to address this section. Bioware must have been asleep during facial animation classes. As of the time of this video the game has been patched, but still plays and looks like crap. Bottom line is the graphics should be the last thing a triple a title lacks.

    Music/sound

The music in this game is forgettable and the voice acting is ten times as deplorable. Once again Bioware and EA must have out sourced these areas to drunken bums because that is the amount of care it seems they gave to this area. You’ll be better of playing your own music and imagining the dialogue.

    Playback

The good news is Mass Effect Andromeda is filled with things to do. From your main mission of populating the Heleus Cluster to the loyalty missions this game will have you busy for a long time. There are more than enough planets to help colonize and the loyalty missions help you flesh out and get to know your shipmates. This has been the hallmark of the Mass Effect series so there should be no surprise at its generous offerings.

    Summary Score

Many gamers waited years in anticipation for this new iteration of their beloved franchise. Instead they were given what some would call a shell of the old games. Marred with controversy, bad graphics, and empty promises Bioware has failed to deliver the Triple A Space RPG adventure many were promised. Mass Effect isn’t a bad game, but on the other hand nor is it an outstanding game. Many other games have faced the same woes, but not in such a huge combination of follies. Mass Effect Andromeda gets a 6.5 out of 10.

Once you get into the game you will occasionally find a questline that provides an enjoyable experience, but those are few and to often entirely missable. Few low quality quests would have greatly improved this game.

The combat system is fine and combat can be an enjoyable activity.

I am a huge fan of the previous Mass Effect installments, so much so that giving this game such a low rating hurts, but I can not love this game with so many obvious flaws. I have completed the game twice and reached level 80, and so I feel as though I can give a thorough review.

Firstly, lets delve into the problems with the writing. The story feels rinsed and repeated, following along with the generic layout of "big galactic bad guys want to destroy us, so lets get all the aliens under our banner and defeat them together." And it feels like I should care that the whole initiative is at stake but I just simply do not. Right from the get go the story is thrown onto your lap and you go from there, but there is no mystery or build up like there was in the original Mass Effect.
Not only this, but there is also the problem of all the bad guys in Bioware games as of late being unfeeling, generic 'super villains', which is the same mistake they made with Corypheus in DA:I. A long with this they missed several opportunities, they could have perhaps made the story more interesting by having the player be able to choose the race of their Pathfinder similar to their Dragon Age series, it would certainly have been interesting to play as the Turian or Asari Pathfinder and I'm sure many fans would have loved the opportunity to do so. My main problem with the main story is there is no compelling force driving the story forward until the mission before the last, and only then is a 'mystery' given to us that seems worthy of investigation, but by then I am sure many players had already put their controllers down and called it a day.

Story aside, there is also the problem with dialogue and interactions between Ryder and their crew feeling forced and unnatural. Talking to the crew feels like a chore, the characters given to us this time around just aren't as interesting as those in the previous games, and it's a real shame because with this being a whole new galaxy and a clean slate Bioware has missed several opportunities. It's the same "Turian, Krogan, Asari, Human male, Human female and Other" layout, and they all fall into more-or-less the same role as the crew of the Normandy. This, paired with the strange dialogue and writing choices makes for a boring crew. I often find myself pausing within a cut scene and thinking "wait, what did they just say?" more times than I would have liked. I have found a lot of the writing is juvenile and written so poorly it could have been easily mistaken for a fanfiction.

Take for example Liam's line "I think that one is mad at me. Probably because I shot it in the face." this quite literally sounds like something I would have said in middle school. Or perhaps Ryder's words in Jaal's romance line "I'm glad you can be so open and vulnerable with me." and his reply "You make me feel safe." if this cringe inducing dialogue does not sound like high-school girl level fanfiction to you, I'm not sure what else to say. And let us not forget Addison's ironic, yet infamous line "I'm sorry, my face is tired." These are but a few snippets of poor writing, which mixed with a generic and boring cast create a cocktail of 'meh.' The only redeeming quality of the crew is their loyalty missions, which is where you feel like you see a glimmer of something resembling an interesting character before they dissolve back into 'meh' once the quest is over.

But, aside from the disappointing cast and main story, the plus side is that the combat in ME:A is largely improved compared to the previous ME installments and is quite literally the most fun thing to do in the game besides space exploration. With SAM being so closely linked to the main character, the player is free to choose any skills and abilities they wish and is not limited to one class per play through, which creates a truly unique play style that you can customize to suit your preference.

Another good thing about the game is planetary exploration, and while getting to those planets may be boring and tedious due to un-skippable cut scenes, the worlds are unique and quite often breathtaking to look at and explore. The quests on each planet may often be watered down to fetch quests, but the planets themselves, along with the nomad to explore them in are quite fun to play around with, and you may end up finding yourself lost in some random quest on some far flung corner of the map and completely forget there was a main story at all.

Although I must also point out character customization is very limited, and I found myself wondering why I couldn't make my skin lighter than a tan, or why I couldn't adjust the shape of my eyes at all. It was very frustrating.

And finally, a flaw that I am sure many, many people have already commented upon is the facial animations and all the bugs that were present upon release, but I don't really feel like beating a dead horse.

I am now out of space, but overall I am disappointed. Very disappointed.

MEA turned out to be a great game even though I was disappointed and expected much more, the story may feel unoriginal but still has that Mass Effect feel. Afterall this was made by BioWare Montreal and this is their first major project. I have faith in BioWare and I'm sure MEA2 will improve a lot more as there is so much left to be answered.

Even considering the technical issues this is the best game I have played this year. The visuals are amazing and the graphics are great (PS4 on 4K LCD). Combat and game mechanics are intuitive and probably the best of any Mass effect game. The story is simplistic but the whole point of the game is to explore Andromeda and reset from the complete dead end the writers were left with after ME3. If you want to understand the depth of the story by learning motives and details about new species then you will have to spend a lot of time exploring, reading data pads and completing side quests. This game is by no means perfect and without so many overly critical reviews from people who want everything in the story spelt out for them, I would have been more critical. This game is clearly meant to be the opening act of a trilogy (just like ME1) and therefore is less fast paced and spends a lot of time establishing the narrative needed for later games. I would highly recommend this title, BioWare clearly dropped the ball rushing this out but having paid full price I am very content with the value for money having played more than 80 hours on my first play through. Couldn't finish it. I heard about all the bugs and the facial animations and as a long time fan of the franchise I thought I could see through it. But while the story is bad, the dialogue and delivery is even worse. All quests require you to run from terminal to terminal to terminal with very little interesting stuff in between.

On its own, however, it's great. As for its political themes, Bioware has never shied away from such, but maybe some ME fans weren't old enough to realize this before? The story of refugees seeking asylum from a war-torn homeland may be unique to gamer, but it serves as an interesting reflection of today's cultural climate.... and that's one of the things sci-fi does best, places a mirror to ourselves and asks what if? The backlash against such a storyline is a sign of our political climate, not any change on the Bioware's part... regardless of who's the head of the writing team. Sure, day one had some hiccups, but the updates have patched most everything that drove down its initial score. One more note: the hoopla against the default female Ryder is ridiculously immature, and if adolescent gamers wishing to capitalize on the male gaze didn't know, you can customize the look and gender of your character all you want. In short, check this game out. It's not something that will hook you in the opening minutes (or even first hour), but given time, you'll find it being a great little itch you have to scratch. After all, the galaxy needs you, Pathfinder. Expand

I was glad to get the opportunity to play this game after a number of fixes have been implemented, I have not played pre-1.05 and have only experienced minor issues, most of which were resolved upon updating graphics drivers (Yes this game really does require the latest!)

My expectations were perhaps lower than average seeing as this game has come off the back of the remarkable achievement that is the original Mass Effect trilogy; however I feel that this game sets the foundation well to expand on in future installments.

I feel like the game could have benefited from more characters with more diverse dispositions and personalities, some of the playable characters seemed very similar to previous incarnations. As a new race the Angara felt more human than alien in everything other than appearance, which is surprising considering that Andromeda is a different galaxy entirely. It would have been good to see more cultural quirks come into play.

    All in all, 8/10

Before going any further I would like to make crystal clear that I am extremely liberal with all genders and I actually favor equality among them. I just don't want gender politics in my games! I also want to mention that I usually have 3 tiers of scoring a game which I will explain below:

TIER 1 - How does it stand among all videogames - 4/10

MEA is a decent 3rd person shooter with many bugs and glitches as well as a childishly writen and mostly boring storyline that picks up pace and interest in the final 2 hours. NOT what you want from a ME game. It is a half-finished product that plainly depicts the panic the studio had with how almost all aspects of the game would look, from character appearance (yes the facial animations) to the entire story. Most importantly the game killed the main gameplay mechanic that made sense, the dialog wheel, going from Paragon/Renegade to "emotional development choices that in the long run affect your character". Never noticed that. Finally, and I will explain this more in later Tiers, the game is destroyed by amateur attempts to infuse it with sociopolitical propaganda, mainly feminist, something that was both unecessary and insulting to the gamer community. Studies show that people who play videogames are generally "Smarter" so why don't just go with that instead of cramming into our throats politics we already know and respect and that should ALWAYS stay out of the entertainment industry? MEA is Bioware's greatest missed opportunity, a poor game compared to many other AAA titles you can play.

TIER 2 - How does it compare to other games of the genre 5/10

ME 1,2,3 set a high bar. The trilogy however taught Bioware nothing of how important the story is to any game. Even if I took this out, the game fails to reach even the standards itself created. It was a game about exploration instead of an inwards-looking, character development storyline, ok let's try that I am game, I am open to new things. However the exploration part was reppetetive, uninspired and generic. I expected to explore a Galaxy and find at least 4-5 new species indeginous to it, same as ME 1. I got 3, and all boringly executed and writen mostly. The Agara could have been more fleshed out and less naive, the Remnant are interesting at first only to get squashed by repetitiveness and the Kett are an ugly and hilarious enemy to be against. I simply never felt threatened by them. With this fact us players were left with the need to look for entertainment in the characters and not the repetitiveness- emptiness of Andromeda. But the characters, with the exception of Peebe, Jaal and Drack were UNINTERESTING and most importantly, intentionally posing as feminist political cues. Simply put, the entire crew of the Tempest exists as a character empowerement of Sara Ryder. There are simply no powerful males in there. Drack is no A male, just a grumpy old man to respect, not antagonize, Liam is the less interesting, wining excuse of a human being, Cora is steel cold and irritating. Vetra is quicky reduced from a powerful female to a caregiver mother figure that overprotects her little sister, Gil is a guy that struggles to find his pace with a platonic relationship with his lady friend and so on. One could say that comparing them to characters like Garrus and Liara is unfair since we had 3 games with them and they grew on us. But that is not true, they were all amazing, even from the very first game. In ME 1,2,3 I wanted to go back to the ship and talk to my complanions as much as possible. In MEA I wanted to be out of the ship as much as possible in order to take breaks from conversations I knew I had to listen to because I paid 70 euros for them. That is not how a ME game should feel like. Finally, the Arks' storyline is a missed chance to flesh the story more.

TIER 3- What does it "do for me" as a fan? 7/10

Ok, let's take a breather. We waited for this game patiently for 4 long years. Let's take some of the good stuff out of it and remember it as a "slow" origins story isntead of a complete one. Peebe is AWESOME. I kept going back to the Tempest just to get as much out of her as possible. Incredibly satisfying choice for a romance as well, by far the most well writen and that says a lot for the rest of the crew. The Remnant story, although mired by repeating themes (the final 2 vaults were a chore, not a wonder) they open the game to sequels in an extremely interesting way. Drack was a laugh and Suvi and Kallo simply adorable. Ryder is descently writen and stands almost as tall as Shepard as a leader, fighting her way not only though a very bad storyline that does not do her justice but also an amazingly executed internal fight with herself, her family and the terrible truth of Mikly Way's ultimate fate.

There is a lot of quest and stuff to do in this game, but unfortunately it focuses more on quantity instead of quality. Most quests are boring and most things you do feels like chores instead of entertainment. It might be fun on the first planet but after that most quests feels boring and repetitive. And it’s not only the quests that are repetitive, it’s also the enemies and the creatures on different planets. And in a game that focus a lot on exploration this repetitiveness is a lot more noticeable.

The combat is also not very fun in my opinion, even though it feels a lot better and is not as stiff as the other Mass Effect games. But the cover system feels very clunky and the fact that you are limited to only 3 active abilities when there are around 20 to choose from makes me frustrated and wishing for more options to have FUN in combat. In its current state the combat feels very bland and lacking things to make me feel entertained.

With that said I actually I still enjoyed the game even though it have a lot of flaws. I never found any major bugs that annoyed me and I was fine with the facial animations that a lot of people have criticized the game for. What made be appreciate the game is the overall setting and tone of the game and I liked the story and the characters, and in my opinion that is the most important part of a Mass Effect game. I managed to quickly feel immersed in the world and loved the first hours. But the repetitive nature of the game made it worse and worse the longer I played. After playing it for some time I kind of wished that the game was over so that it wouldn’t taint my experience anymore. Luckily the main quest managed to stay varied and therefore I found the game enjoyable until the end and I do not regret purchasing it... but the developers could have made it a lot better than what we ended up with.

However, the game managed to keep me entertained for a few hours despite the big minuses. With a few exceptions, however, I was rushing the main storyline. I didn't want to sacrifice more hours to this game than was absolutely necessary.

This game destroyed the mass effect franchise and I hate it for that. It was boring as hell and the complete opposite quality of the original trilogy.
I didn't even make it past the half way point, I was done with how boring it was.
This game was also far to buggy and the AI also sucked.
And don't get me started on the facial expressions.

With the launch of the legendary edition I decided to play through all the games including this one. I will say while not perfect it has a lot of major improvements over the trilogy. The overall combat mechanics are incredible. Combat is fast paced, responsive and highly customizable thanks to the new SAM profiles. Weapons can be crafted and modded letting combat really be whatever you want. The characters were great and some of the most engaging dialogue took place in the Nomad based on who you paired up. Some combinations like Liam and Vetra hated each other at first only to actually find a place of mutual respect as you continued to pair them together. Each character has unique attributes so playing with combinations always felt fresh and fun. Then there’s the Ryders. Bye bye rigid morality system. The new choice based system made feeling keyed into the choices so much easier. Some you felt the impact of in this game others will (hopefully) come down the line. It was nice to be able to approach situations more freely than simply good choice or bad choice. Ryder themselves was engaging and really had some incredible character development. The voice work was well nuanced (even if maybe the animation wasn’t) and your character’s confidence and skills grew as the game progressed. Now without any spoilers here, the story was awesome! Yes it’s way more open world than the prior entries but it’s meant to be. This is an unestablished galaxy for the Milky Way species and as such you have to form bonds of friendship and cooperation. There are a number of smaller challenges all over the locations to be solved as well as the main conflict. Speaking of, wow; talk about some big plot twists. All in all I found this to be an extremely enjoyable entry and look forward to hopefully getting a sequel as there were many many open plot lines. The future of the franchise is Andromeda. Expand

Graphically I thought it looked beautiful, however was disappointed many aliens such as the Asari used the same 2 or 3 models just with different textures applied. Whereas previous Mass Effect games may have used the same models at times, but they had enough varieties of models spread though out that it was unnoticeable.

Personally I enjoyed the story, especially the final battle which I think is more how the final battle of Mass Effect 3 should've turned out. That being said there were story threads that were left open for DLCs instead of wrapping the story up properly. Especially the whole thing with the Quarian arc, which unfortunately is a DLC we'll never get to see.

Ultimately a flawed game, but still a fun time for fans of Mass Effect or Sci-Fi in general that don't need things to be perfect.

Mass Effect is one of my favorite universes in the Science Fiction realm alongside Star Wars, Star Trek, and Battlestar Gallactica. This particular game failed to meet those standards with character development. It felt like one big giant side quest, but not a full game on its own. The sad thing is, there was so much opportunity to make this into something great. They were exploring a whole new galaxy. They could have had so many new alien species. If this had been released 6-8 months later, the response would have been better, but unfortunately it looks like EA/Bioware are strongly inclined to discontinue Mass Effect.
Many of the elements that made me a fan of the Shepard games are there and they work well, the combat is much better than the previous games even. I enjoyed the story telling and the stories around the Pathfinder's teammates. If you haven't played it yet, I'd recommend giving it a try now. My only criticism is that there are still a number of bugs that make it impossible to finish some of the smaller side missions. I was still able to finish the main game and 99% of the side missions, so it is not critical.

Fast forward to now I buy the remaster of the trilogy and love it as much as I did before know I have the continuation on my shelf and decide to replay it and I was so disappointed. Even years later there are glitches. I've had areas of a map not load. The game game freeze while loading. NPC's just look unfinished. I've had to quit and restart to get a quest to load or finish. The story feels weaker and feels like a poor copy of the trilogy. I didn't feel as invested with the crew our given. The new galaxy feels lifeless 2 new races and one of them is the enermy. I remember hearing that after this game came out there were so many problems with it that Bioware went f**k it and abandoned it but it.
Again I know this review is years late but with the remaster out I want any new players to have a chance to read post from someone who tried to come back to it years later.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
5-¿ERA NECESARIO PONERME A LAS DEMÁS ESPECIES EN dlc's?

It could be my extremely high expectations or just other games raising the bar for open-world games (the Witcher III for sure); the fact is that this game lacks the depth and lore of the trilogy. the writing and directing fall short of what could be a great set up for the franchise (another galaxy!).

3- Good premise for the franchise reboot.
    4- It's a Mass Effect game!
    5- Enjoyable multiplayer.

    The bad:
1- It badly failed to capture the magnificent feeling of exploring what is (to us at least) uncharted area and focused on the size of the game and a huge number of silly tasks you can do.
2- the writing: While I listened carefully to most of the conversations in the trilogy, I find myself skipping them here. They are just uninteresting and plain dull.
3- Characters (writing as well): I had a genuine emotional attachment to Miranda, Jack, Mordin and many others in the trilogy... but I have zero interest in anyone (Peebee might be a tad better). Even the AI Sam is lacklustre at best in comparison to Edi.
4- The open-world set-up is starting to burden new games unless it's very well made (the Witcher as a brilliant example again) and I'd take a well written linear old fashioned game over a repetitive massive open-world one with a modular feeling.
5- As a summary, I'd say the game failed in terms of story, writing, and directing especially in comparison to the trilogy and recent games.

The companions are not as cool this go around, not even close but there are a few interesting characters enough to fill your squad. the combat is very similar to ME3 but polished. the constant crafting mining and resource gathering gets old fast but i personally always hate that stuff while developers seem to love it. An explanation of each character difference, backed up by history, is required. I don't want to communicate with a gay man, but with a thoughtful character who can be anyone. The story brings a fictional character to life, makes us adore or hate him. But not when they shout from the screen that it is absolutely normal to be like that. No, this is unnatural. Don't force it on us.
This is not how to show that minorities are strong and have equal rights. Horizon just came out and shows you how to create a strong female hero.
The main thing here is not a lackluster plot and bad graphics.
This is just a very bad representation. An agenda that not everyone agrees on yet. An agenda that not everyone will accept.
I'm very sad now. Because of this game, I lost a piece of my heart. Mass Effect is no longer for me.
Please, if you don't want a bad script to come naturally, don't buy this game. Don't sponsor the death of the video game industry.

I have been a fan of the Mass Effect series since the beginning. That being said, while this is not my fave of the series, I am still enjoying it and find it a welcome addition. Yes, it has its flaws, but it also has a lot going for it. The naysayers be damned. Check it out, it is worth it.

After some years I found it at 6€ and gave it another chance...
Yesterday I ended my journey through Andromeda with 90 hrs and a little tear dropped from my eyes...
The story, exploration, battling, interactions and decisions are fantastic...I know it cause I remember most of the npcs I talked to, all the planets lore, I miss the Voled snow or walking in dreaming Aya...

Ah cmon! It's a very good game. It's huge, lots of content, fun stuff to do. The idea behind the story is great, but the script is meh. It's not as scientifical (or well written) like others ME, but it's a great game nevertheless. There's a lot of bugs, a LOT. But nothing that really bothered me. Buy it on sale and give it a run. It will grow on you. (I did not play the Multiplayer game)

This isn't the original Mass Effect Trilogy and NEVER will be that. Granted, that the bar is set very high, but lets face each title had its flaws. The first played to rigid, ME2 had too short of a campaign and 3 was letdown ending-wise.

I've been playing this for well over 14 hours, so far, so good. Planetary exploration is much cooler
with the view of the spaceship moving planet to planet. Ground exploration is FINALLY back. Missions are laid out very similar to how Dragon Age Inquisition is, with a select amount of large areas to explore and seems to work the same.

Honestly, if you look at how Inquisition plays, just apply that to this.

My only gripe was how the limited the loadout, powers system is now. Also, being unable to equip weapons from the menu is garbage. But I've seen worse mechanics in my almost 30 years of gaming so, I'll suck it up.

Everyone is expecting way too much from games these days, ya'll haters need to calm down.

    VERY LIGHT SPOILERS, nothing major.

After playing this for MANY hours, I've realized two things.

    1. AVOID THE FETCH QUESTS, most of them aren't really that rewarding, give you crap loot/credits/experience. Focus on doing the side missions related to your crew and improving the viability of planets. Space exploration is almost pointless, save for actually discovering the FIVE viable planets, after that mapping the stars get real boring.

    2. The story is a repeat of the 1st Mass Effect, sans the intriguing twist of the original. Yet the narrative isn't horrible, just that it lacks the charm of the ANY of the original trilogy. I felt like everything I did in Andromeda gave me that "been there, done that" kind of feeling.

DROPPED MY SCORE FROM AN 8 to a low 7. The combat is good and the game has its moments, mostly during main and character missions.

The game is not as bad as people say. Sure it had its technical problems and the game seem to be 'boring' to some people however after patches it is really worth trying to get into the game. I had a year break from the game and since the return I have had a lot of fun. The game is very cheap now anyway so why not give it a shot?

If you can get passed the bad facial animations, the poor character models, the no clue what your response is going to be from your dialogue choice, the half the time poor voice acting and everything else that makes this game the hot garbage that it is then you might somehow be able to have some fun. I feel like I'm being too kind giving this game a five out of ten. It's playable but it's NOTHING like the first three but it really is playable. I am still struggling with looking over its flaws to be able to enjoy the game but the gameplay needs to pick up or I don't know if I will even bother to finish this one.
EDIT TO ADD: I've now beat this game. Honestly I didn't even know I was heading to the final boss. I went out of my way to complete every side quest I saw and while I'm sure there were some I missed I feel like I completed the bulk of them. I was only level 55, only had mid level gear, and even getting to the end boss didn't feel like an end of game boss. And there was sssosoooo much time waster content. Go here. Scan these rocks. Deliver this stuff. Build this thing. And I tried to do all of it with very few exceptions. I assume the goal is to make you replay through with the same character a few times to really unlock the best gear but who wants to do all the time waster go scan rocks stuff all over again??? I admit I was a sucker for all the previous ME games with every bit of downloadable content to the point I was upset a little with the WiiU release not being complete. But ME:A will not get another dollar from me. It's already on the shelf as a memorial to remind me not to buy games day one and wait for some good reviews first.

The game really suffers by being developed by a c team with no fault of the people who worked on the actual game, but the bugs and incomplete tweaking of things that never happened really makes the game suffer. I loved the first trilogy and this Mass Effect is a complete different kind of game and this is good. The only problem for me is every things they made differently is bad or boring.

-Animation: First when you start the game you are welcomed with broken animation everywhere, but this is just a minor problem, it can be fixed and this is Mass Effect it should be good even with that.

    -Game play
Next step, Gunfight. I really don't understand why we cannot stop the fight to control our partners actions. All is very very action, I don't like the new system where you can't equip more than 2 powers but have to switch to different profile. The fight are always dashing everywhere trying to cover.
Some gunfight are difficult, boss fights where nicely organized.
So for the gameplay I don't liked it but it's not bad it is just my personal feeling about it.

    Exploration:
The exploration is good, a mixed between Mass Effect 1 for the Mako and Dragon Age inquisiton (I loved it) for the out post system and the tower to activate to find a final cave or whatever secret thing. The system with the five (I think) planet to colonized is rewarding because you can feel the evolution of it talking to people in the main Hub and by destroying the threat it will became (almost) peaceful place to live on.

    Story and characters:
This point was the most important and I'm very very very very disappointed about it. No spoiler ahead but the story is boring af, the end was terribly... Average. I almost feel like every characters on the Tempest were cliché (Good point for the Sera from Dragon Age disguised in Asari).
I tried to do a maximum side quest possible before the main quest but I was blocked waiting to receive mail from my team mates to continue their side quests. Like seriously? And then I did one mission and everybody sent me mail so I was submerged with side quest all of a sudden..
I'm going to start a New Game + but I'm not as excited has I'm still am when I start again the first trilogy or even a Dragon Age game.

Conclusion: Returning into the Mass Effect universe feels good. The Andromeda initiative is a good concept for a game, the main story of exploring planet and the exploration itself is nicely done. The gunfights are what they are you like it or not but you can't say it's bad. But thanks to a lot of bug and a poor story telling I cannot say I'm happy with this game and I'm very sad of it.
But your opinion will be the best so try the game if you never played any Mass Effect you can start here and you will discover one of the biggest and best universe of the video game history.

Final Point: I personally don't think that the open world fit well here and really don't know why because I liked it with Dragon age inquisition. But a good linear game is better than an average open world one.

    Sorry for bad English.

If this game was the first Mass Effect game and it came out in 2003 people might have been more understanding. However this isn't the first, it's the fourth game in the series and it came out in 2017.

Andromeda had a lot to live up to so I'll go ahead and list some the things that made Mass Effect so good in the first place.

    1. Character customization
This is what starts off the game, this is where you create the most important thing in the entire game; you. Not to sound overly narcissistic, but in every Bioware game the only thing that keeps the world from ending or turning to **** is you. The game mainly focuses on you, what you say and the choices you make. It's no surprise that, for many people, how you look and who you choose to be is important. In the previous games there was hardly any shortage of options when it came to choosing what you looked like, what kind of person you were and where you came from. In Andromeda everything is extremely limited. I felt like I was playing the beta version of a game. My backstory is chosen for me, my face is chosen for me and my personality and choices hardly matter. It sort of breaks the immersion when the camera focuses on your character and you look like a crazy person. The male characters are barely passable, the female ones are just downright horrendous. The eyes look dead. It looks like you're staring very intensely all the time. No matter how pale I created my character i couldn't make a white female character, they were always tan. I couldn't choose eye shape, nose shape, mouth shape or brows. You can tweak the awful presets a little, but that's it. Hair options were okay, but you can't be blonde without either looking like a clown or have brown roots. The makeup was average and kinda reminded me of Saw. The tattoos were boring and the scars were weird. I don't think i've enjoyed a character customization less than Andromeda's.. and I've played Oblivion.

    2. Dialogue and acting
The dialogue, acting and just the characters themselves were absolutely superb in the Mass Effect trilogy. Even though the person you were talking to was a metal bird man he felt like a real person. The dialogue you chose felt like they mattered and the options were diverse. The lines were also brilliantly delivered. From combat to romance, pretty much everything felt organic and lifelike, it was so easy to get immersed in the game. In Andromeda it felt like the dialogue was sometimes written by a 14 year old in creative writing class. Sure, there were some good lines and I've had a chuckle over some of the Nomad banter, but it felt lifeless. The acting isn't always bad, but I find myself cringing at serious moments because it's just so poorly done. Screaming of pain should actually sound like pain not like you're stuck in traffic. Seeing someone you love die should be a tragic event not a minor inconvenience. Call me old fashioned but getting involved in a romantic relationship should be more than just '"we'll bang, ok?" People in Andromeda feel more like cartoons than people and most of the time i just didn't care about what happened to them. Nobody seems to care who you are or how you act. You get a nice little personality report from the Tempest doctor, but that's pretty much it. Don't expect any deep and complex, Oscar worthy perfomances or characters.

    3. The story
This is the big one. The story of Mass Effect, not only the main story, but the side quests, the characters the random encounters - it's just good. It makes you feel involved and interested, it makes you care. And for a sci-fi tale it feels very real. I cared about Shepard, I cared about my squadmates, I cared about my crew, I cared about the people, I cared about the universe. The story makes you laugh and cry and the choices you make matter, sometimes more than any Telltale game ever did, and it was just an amazing journey. Andromeda starts off with a pretty good concept. However it turns into something generic, something I feel like I've seen before. I didn't really care all that much about anything that happened, because the game didn't give me any reason to. There were so many opportunities they missed, so many directions they could have gone, and it feels like they went with the most generic one. It feels like it isn't quite finished. It feels empty. The side quests were disappointing and the story was average. As the credits rolled I thought to myself "that's it?"

    Other things:
-The romances are nowhere near as deep or meaningful as they've been in the previous games or in Dragon Age.
-All the memes you've seen about the animations - they're all true. It really is that bad.
    -Glitches. Glitches everywhere.

Summed up: it's not the worst game in the world, I had some fun, but it doesn't even compare to the Mass Effect trilogy.

Despite all of the bugs, glitches and animations, the story was so bland, the characters were forgettable and only the combat was good, maybe the best in a ME game, but that doesn't do much when you have so many negative points.

The game seems to have a lot of copy/paste side quests and exploration padding. I could spend literally several hours messing about here and there and not have any main story update. That did leave a disjointed broken feeling when getting back to the main story. Mining, research, upgrades strike teams and inventory management got to be a micro mange time waster drag.

Exploring new worlds was a load of fun. Lots of reading to do like the good old Mass Effects to keep the lore junkies happy. The flashy jet pack based combat and flashy driving was fun fluid and fast and never got old.

Pandemic retry and well this has not aged well. Seeing Mass Effect related stuff is always cool. The gameplay and combat is now kind of ( DAI ) repetitive and shallow. Already knowing the story and game world nothing any more new to see here sadly. The mystery box level or writing was really so much time wasting BS. MEA was a missed opportunity for sure. Looking like it was made by less talented people. compared to who made the previous three ME games.

Hard to believe this is made by Bioware. If you had told me this was a studio's first shot at an rpg, I would've believed you. There are no meaningful choices, you do not define anything about your character and the relationships with the companions don't change meaningfully either. The saddest thing is the lack of diversity in the planets. It feels like most of them are just some variation of 'desert', and I don't think it started like that, looking at concept art.
Just as bland are the companions, with most of them just being the bargain bin versions of the OT characters. The romances are equally disappointing. A couple of them have some nice scenes, but nothing on the level of other recent Bioware romances.
The game play is fine. Just fine. But I can't get over the fact that a game about space exploration has so little to explore.
The main story is incredibly shallow and you've seen it all before (in the other ME games!). Near the end they hint at some bigger things to happen (one hidden behind a boring collection quest), but those teases are left for a sequel I don't see happening.
Besides these issues, it's painfully obvious this game needed more time or better leadership. From things like the asari all having the same face, to the lack of a personality for Ryder, to the state this game was launched in, all make it clear Bioware was rushing near the end.

All in all I can't say I had NO fun with this game, but I couldn't be bothered to replay it and that's never happened to me before with a Bioware game.

With all problem fixed, this was very good sci-fi story. The RPG and shooting mechanics with
Biotic, Tech and Weapon skills with combos were fun.
Great variety of weapons, armors, customization, skills and also characters, exploration of planets, solid vehicle driving etc. The choices were more cosmetic, but it was ok, I cannot say it was a linear story where nothing matters. This was

This was my first entry in Mass Effect and it was good. Worth the time.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
