I am a huge fan of Mass Effect series and I absolutely loved the previous parts, all of them. I decided not read on any reviews to make my own opinion.
Character creation process was really bad, all presets look awfull and customisation is bad, especially all hair options were terrible for my taste ... not a good start but whatever.

The color palete in first few maps was off on most characters, everything seemed so bleak to me, white turians why? What is worst everyone who I was talking to looked weird and unbeliavable. There was absolutely no emotion even in the most dramatic scenes, no sadnes, no fear, no joy. How would you talk if your father just died, like this?
But I am willing to play ansi graphics games if they are fun so actually this made me sad but didnt put me off completely and I decided to play the game anyway. After 40 hour of complete boredom and anoyence I put it off. Every single quest that I did didnt interest me. Many of them dont make any sense. I dont remember a single quest I liked.
The only NPC I remeber is peebee which I find anoying. As a completionist I tried to talk to everyone to find all quests which in this game equals ask every single colonist why did he decide to travel to Andromeda. It made me start skipping conversation, There is so much meaningless talk in this game... 90% time listen to poor voice acting, 10% game actually do something ...
The UI is absolute mess. You cant effectively find next side quests, you cant manage your weapon and armor mods, it looks like this is some restriction due to console ports or I dont see why they wold do such terribly clumsy UI. My best mod disapeared because I got more then 50 items without warning .... but to be honest I didnt care a bit about equipment, there was no equipment for my spec. I played biotic in 40 hours of gameplay I didnt get a single biotic gear upgrade and on normal dificulty there was no chalanging fight. All Biotic abilities have such long cooldown you are gonna shoot most of the time anyway.
Multiplayer is the same as in ME3. What I hate is that everyone has mics on by default and you cant mute them! After hearing heavy breathing and keyboard mashing in all my games and then someone farting all game I just couldnt bear it and quit playing it too, The same problem was in dragon age but they still think its good idea to turn everyones mic on. Why for gods sake!?
Dont buy this game, its really my worst of worst gameplay experience :-(

Not a Bioware game. It's a cheap outsourced knock off. It looks like a Rolex in the store, but once you play you realize it says Rolodex and the gold peels off.

This is not the Mass Effect we were promised in E3. This is a hot mess full of bugs, awful voice acting, and terrible face animation. You can't emotionally connect with any character as their facial expressions seem like they're oblivious to their situation and surroundings. Now at last, Bioware came back to the loyal funs with Andromeda and the outcome is far from fulfilling our long anticipation... Andromeda is a childish game with lots of action, interesting new elements, great graphics, but, lots of bugs, crappy animations, no story and especially no soul. With ugly and immature characters, lousy dialogs and boring storyline... I just finished playing the original trilogy once more and pretty sure I'll stick back there... Andromeda has nothing to offer to Mass Effect funs like me... It's only an insult to the original games... I wish Shepard could return from the deads and the Ryders to be send back to school for a few years, before trying to save humanity and the rest of the Milky Way species, from a dark (how ? why ?) future... The tens and zeros are both jokes. It is IMPOSSIBLE this is a 10. It is buggy and poorly optimized, it has graphical glitches, and poor animations and textures. All facts. My opinion - its world is far inferior to Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda Breath of the Wild, and The Witcher 3. Games need to bring a lot more now. This isn't 2006 anymore. It's clear this is not the original Bioware crew.

However, the first main-line mission after that signals the beginning of what can thus far only be called a tremendously uncoordinated mess. There is enjoyable game-play in here, and unlike many, I like the return to ME1 facets, but there are serious structural issues whose origin lie at Bioware's feet.
Most problematic is a complete lack of cohesiveness. There are emails referencing a character you can't have met before the end of the first mission. You meet one group, and, despite the characterization of that group as initially untrusting, there is no evidence of it there after. Now, It may just be that this event occurs at a rough bridge in the narrative, a poor section needed to facilitate larger things to come, but I doubt it somehow. Over all, there seems a lack of direction. The game needed a focus, and it sorely lacks that, being torn between the enjoyable notions of establishing a foothold for the people's of the Milky Way in Andromeda, and a larger narrative that would be better served by being set on the back-burner and allowed to build for future installments

There are also, already, a number of glaring story-telling holes:

-At one point, you speak with a member of an adversarial force while your ship deals with a navigation issue. The Ship-board computer informs you that it will need time to re-establish navigation, but instead of using that opportunity to talk with the adversary, and to expand the story, it's squandered, making an opportunity for a moment like meeting Sovereign on Virmire wasted.
-The Player Character has a lot of background knowledge that the player isn't privy to. This leads to big questions that are unanswered, save outside of lip-service in the codex or in ham-fisted conversations.
-Additionally, for a series which, by all rights, should be focusing on continuity, the sudden creation of a galaxy wide colonization effort that was entirely unmentioned in the original trilogy, but which took place at the same time is ridiculous, and there is little reason that this story couldn't have its roots post-ME3, leaving the reason for the colonization effort up in the air, instead of shoe-horning it in to the existing timeline.
-Overall, from 13 hours of play, I'm not at all confident in the ability of the story to resolve its key issues, nor to satisfactorily move from plot point to plot point, which is frankly unacceptable when there are clear avenues for the narrative to follow. I suspect that there was too little in the way of sharing the game for feedback. Or at least, not a rigorous enough approach to plotting in the writing room.

With regards to the Characters, separate from the larger story:

-Your crew mates are hit and miss, with uneven characterization. While accusations of one-dimensional-ness are false, it seems not to be for want of trying by the writing team. If you accept that Shepard had some of the galaxy's best around them during the Original Trilogy, the flawed nature of Ryder's crew, and their slightly scruffier aesthetic is acceptable, and its nice not to surrounded by wunderkind and characters who would be the hero if the Player Character wasn't there. Their flaws are in some regards, a welcome addition. That said, they are often too leaned on for characterization. Additionally, while its nice that some characters don't have backgrounds rooted in established Mass Effect organizations like C-Sec, they have an annoying tendency to be the "I do what I think it right, and don't play by the rules" types, or the one exception, a starched shirt with poorly written abandonment issues, who's motivating scars in life don't fit with established cannon.

And, moving on due to dwindling character count:

-The Galaxy map is poorly designed, taking too long to do anything, for too little reward.
-The non-menu UI is at times fine, but is often too imprecise, or actively obstructive (Try selecting different locations on the main colonization hub),
-The removal of the power wheel is a poor design decision, as they provide nothing to allow for situational awareness in its place, making combat more about looking around and covering your own backside than fighting.
-The Menus are counter productive, and too deeply layered in places, and lack obvious features like the ability to compare items when looking to buy new gear from in-game merchants.
-At the very least, outfit customization is a mess, with it seemingly not working on PC, and with the location you select armour pieces miles away from where you choose your colours, requiring you to drop out of the menu, run through your ship, and switch out parts before running back if you wish to make a change.

Over all, I am disappointed, not in the game, because I love the world and series, but at the seeming incompetence of execution by Bioware and EA. They have no excuses.

Wanted so bad to like this one, but ultimately it fell flat. It never was going to live up to the trilogy, but as an RPG it couldn't hold its own. Bad cc, combat watered down with loss of squad tactics, awful animations and technical performance, backward writing and interactions, etc.

For reference, this game is a mechanical (and in many ways narrative) rip off of dragon age: inquisition. They even took the font. Cora is Cassandra, Peebee is Sera, etc.

But the reason this is a piece of **** game is because of how much it just rapes the best part of Mass Effect, which was (emphasis on *was*) detailed and carefully written characters and plots. Most of the time, I didn't know if I was playing mass effect or reading tumblr. Every **** strong character is a woman. Not to disparage women, but not all of them are great, and making it appear so is just bad and lazy and ****ty writing. I have played the game using both gender characters for many hours. And that phrasing is the crux of the issue that this game suffers under. For BioWare, virtue signaling and politics is more important than creating a good game. While the specific reasons why this game is terrible remains to be fully verified, the game suffers, unarguably.

Bugs = frequent and game breaking

political bias = Huge, and one look at the type of people staffing BioWare these days reveals their bias that makes its way into the game.

After the triumphant success of previous Mass Effect games, I think many people wanted this game to be another excellent addition to the series. The fact is that it falls way, way short. This game deserves a low rating, and we can hope that low ratings sends a signal to BioWare that quality is what gamers want, not content that satisfies certain fringe political extremists.

Anyone who reviews this game above a 5 is either ignorant of what constitutes a good game or is biased in favor of BioWare's politics.

Boring and half-baked. For an RPG, the character creation is limited and the so-called "choices" seem meaningless. Why even have a dialogue wheel? And I'm tempted to skip the cut-scenes, the writing is so bad and the characters, themselves, are so dull. Some of the scenery is pretty, but overall the game just feels sterile.

-horrible animation and characters models (characters just look like clowns all over)
-numerous bugs that impact gameplay (enemy models stuck, easily getting stuck in walls etc)
-open world is horribly underdeveloped and doesnt mesh well with gameplay (its mostly empty space with very little detail, and for a game that requires for battle cover you quite often get caught out in battles with no cover)
    -story is very underwhelming
-squadmates are absolutely useless, they just wander into enemies and rarely take cover and also bug out. also you cant utilize their powers anymore as they the system has been scrapped
-squadmates are super boring, they more or less just hand them to you as compared to say mass effect 2 where there are complex introduction missions and backstories
-quests are horrible (more or less fetch quests)
-UI is horrible, navigating via maps and quests is a huge chore, no quicksave, the list goes on and on
-crafting system is clunky and troublesome
-just overall low production values (i.e alot of new enemies are just old enemies with different colours and names)

There are numerous other problems to list but Ill stop otherwise itll just go on and on. Its like ea/bioware hired a bunch of kids said "heres some money" design a game that looks close enough to the mass effect series where we can just market it enough to sell it to the public...this is basically exactly what happened in real life as the game is obviously rushed, underdeveloped and just an all round disgrace to the gaming industry much less the mass effect series.

Like the writers and developers were so desperate to establish the characters with these over-the-top personalities that they just come off as cliché. I suppose if you try hard enough you can squeeze any character into a stereo-type, but this is kind of ridiculous. Liam is a badly written/acted Guy Ritchie character (yeah, Liam, I get it. You're "edgy"...) and Peebee is just "that obnoxiously quirky one" (yeah Peebee, I get it, you're the upbeat plucky one with a "can do" attitude that doesn't take no for an answer...). Hopefully the character development will improve as the story progresses, but here in the beginning it's not particularly engaging. The combat is good, probably the best of any ME game I've ever played. The story-telling has its hits and misses, but can be overshadowed by the weird animations and character models. I can look past these things and enjoy the game, I suppose, but I can't recommend anyone shell out $60 for this unless you can't find anything else you'd rather spend your money on. If you do, hopefully you can look past the flaws in the character presentation and graphical issues. The scenery is gorgeous and there is the potential for some great non-Reaper related storytelling that takes place in the ME universe here. Expand

Honest review incoming - no BS, emotions, or political whatever.

If this was a standalone game made by whoever and was an original work, it'd probably score a 5 or 6. However since this is a continuation of a series from the same studio, there are expectations to meet and a precedent already set. Because of that, the game scores lower with 4. I'll explain in a bit more detail further

I'll explain in a bit more detail further on.

    First off, the good:
    - A lot of this game looks great. The art and design of worlds and environments is pretty sharp and it makes exploring the open environment a bit more appealing.
    - The combat system is a bit more fun to play with than it was before. Although you have less abilities at the ready, you have more flexibility on what those abilities will be, and the combat is pretty fast paced and fluid so that it keeps you busy and engaged, depending on playstyle/abilities chosen.

Okay, that's it for the good. Now for the bad:
    - We'll start easy: the music is boring. The soundtrack is tedious, uninspired, and simply falls flat most of the time. Compared to the previous ME games (sequels get compared to their predecessors), where the music set the mood and 'feel' for the game, Andromeda feels hollow by comparison.
    - Inventory management is stupid. Only your main character can equip and use gear/weapons, apparently no one else is allowed to use anything but what they bring with them. This is ridiculous because there is a LOT of weapons and items in the game, but they really all just go to a single character. And there is a limit to how much you can carry. It's an irritating mix to give a player loads of items, restrict them to using them on only one character, and set a limit to how much you can carry. Alone, most of those are fine, but all put together it makes loot annoying.
    - The UI is awful. A lot of the menus aren't intuitive at all, some are a bit misleading, and some information just isn't readily explained. It's annoying and there's no reason it couldn't have been simpler or follow typical game norms.
    - Bugs. Lots of bugs. I'm sure this will be fixed with time, so take that into consideration if you're reading all this and thinking of buying. But as of now/launch, there's tons of bugs in this game. Things appear and/or disappear, you can get locked in dialog while something attacks and kills you, characters float through objects, characters stand in a T pose during dialog, etc etc etc. Like I said: lots.
    - Animations are terrible. Not just facial animations, though those are terrible also, but just animations in general are bad. Running looks robotic. Most of the idling animations for characters are either really bad or don't exist. Various interacting animations fail to match up or even just load correctly. Facial and body animations during dialog are laughably bad, with most characters in conversations just standing still with arms at their sides the entire time like some kind of mannequin. Eyes seem to move at random moments and in random directions during dialog, so that sometimes characters look like a lizard on the lookout for a fly to eat. They sometimes even fail to face whatever they're talking to/about, which looks pretty silly and really takes you out of the game.
    - The dialog is truly awful. Not only does much of it seem like it was written by a twelve year old girl writing fan fiction, but much of the voice acting is completely flat, either lacking the emotion you'd expect in the situation, or having more emotion than seems fitting. Also, dialog options themselves are a disappointment, with very VERY few dialog options feeling like it had any significant impact on anything at all, AND with many dialog options being present different from the voice lines. For example: You select a convo option titled 'to hell with that', and your character not only never says those words, his response was actually in an agreeable tone and not a 'to hell' tone at all.
    - The writing and characters are just bad. The original ME games had amazing characters, a full fleshed out universe, and a compelling plot to chase after. Andromeda has none of those things at all and here's why it loses more points than it would have it didn't have Mass Effect in the name: they completely ignore a lot of the Mass Effect canon. I won't bother with examples, but suffice to say if you're fan of ME and it's lore, you'll notice these things and be disappointed. It's one thing to have a horrible story, but it's another to not even try to maintain the universe built in the previous games. The antagonist is transparent and uninspired, the new alien race additions are boring and generic. And overall, the story really does feel like fan fiction written by a twelve year old girl (two guys getting naked with each other for no rational reason at all, for example). Also some obvious politicking with subjects like bigotry and gender ID. Which would be okay if it fit, but it doesn't.

Just wait until it's on sale - it won't be long.

Whole sections of the story made little sense based on my previous actions and I regularly found myself confused by a new series of events only to wade through the necessary exposition conversations after I had completed the events they should have preceded. Needless to say, I was quite frustrated as I played through the first dozen hours of the game.

Once I reached about 33% completion, however, the tone of the game changed and it became a true successor to the original trilogy. The latter half of the game is much stronger than the first half and it eventually culminates in an exciting and satisfying finale that leaves plenty of room for sequels.

I began a second play-through to see how it felt once I knew what I was doing and it was a LOT more streamlined and intuitive than my first fumbling steps in the Andromeda galaxy had been. Consensus: don't get discouraged. Andromeda has a rocky start for some but it gets much better as it progresses and is worth the effort. Pay attention to what the game is asking you to do and don't head off on your own too early or you may find yourself wondering what's going on. Fans of the original trilogy should come away with a positive experience overall and a desire to see what awaits Ryder and the crew of the Tempest.

To be quite frank, I do have buyer's remorse for picking this title up. Ultimately, Bioware tried to do a good job but, some how messed it up to such a degree that it doesn't stack up to the original trilogy. Best to wait for the the ME Trilogy to come out for PS4 and pick that up. After 50+ hours and about 23% of the game completed, it doesn't feel like I'll be finishing it any time soon but, at this point, it is starting to feel like an exercise in repetition and, there just haven't been that many "Holy crap, that was awesome!" moments, in other words, the story does slow down and gets boring. If you enjoyed, the first 3 ME's then you should be able to get into this one but, don't invest too much of yourself into this game because you're gonna be left feeling a little disappointed. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this game to most of the people I know and, I would probably wait until Christmas to pick it up - it should be about 30 bucks by then and at that point, buying a used copy of ME: Andromeda would be worth it (maybe...let's see if Bioware's patches help the game out any). Facial and body mechanics were poorly done and lacking. The general story was good and enjoyable. More decision impact on the story would have been nice. I tire of Bioware pushing the lgbt stuff so hard every game, it doesn't need to be so "In your face" they need to chill a little. A little more content would have been nice though I don't feel robbed with what I got, with all the star systems available there was room. It's hardly a POS like Dragon Age II was but was still below standard as triple A title. Even with all the negatives i still enjoyed it and look forward to improvement on the next Mass Effect title. Though it's a solid game with some really exquisite setpieces and a host of different planets to explore, it'll be difficult for die-hard fans of the franchise to look beyond the yawn-inducing story, lacklustre characters (none of whom have even close to the same level of appeal as, say, Garrus, Liara, or Wrex), and glitches which go beyond being funny and into the realms of being downright sad.

With Andromeda, the options were as close to limitless as it's possible to be; what aliens will we encounter? What sorts of planets can we explore? Will there be chilling moments, or will it be a more lighthearted affair? What will the element of threat feel like, and who are the baddies? - Unfortunately, what we got was more of the same; a generic story in which a boilerplate humanoid race of aliens seek intergalactic supremacy through genetic superiority (Collectors, anyone?), a slightly-more-compelling but no-less-unpolished benevolent underdog race who just want peace and prosperity for everyone, and ancient technologies left behind by a mysterious extinct society who are revealed to us through a series of sudoku-like puzzles and vague speculation on the part of a party member.

Space exploration is a little dodgy, and forcing us to watch through lengthy planetary-approach animations before finding that the world we've decided to look at can't even be landed upon isn't cool, but despite this, planetside exploration feels nice, and driving around the deserts of Elaaden, or strolling through the lush jungles of Havarl while the rain splishy-splashes off your armour can feel really satisfying. The main missions are also enjoyable, and character-specific 'loyalty' missions give the developers a chance to show off their writing skills, but unfortunately it often falls a little flat, and is let down by the overwhelming quantity of throwaway fetch quests and inconsequential dialog choices. The game's main protagonist, Ryder, never really seems to fit into - or earn, for that matter - any of the roles they're given, instead just stumbling into scenarios and being revered by default. This simply adds to the feeling of displacement between the player and their character, and removes almost all feelings of progression and achievement.

Where the previous installments had me rushing combat encounters in a bid to reach the next conversation or romance scene, this one does the opposite; conversations provide no real depth, your actions garner barely any genuine consequence, and romance choices feel stilted and forced. Combat, on the other hand, and gameplay in general, is probably the best it's ever been, with fluid movement which encourages speed and tactical thinking, while the host of equipment options and a well thought-out system of interchangeable abilities and classes which allows you to mix things up to suit different styles of play and battle scenarios really makes you feel like the hardened space-marine you were always meant to be.

It's hard to give this game anything higher than a mediocre score as a result of its prevalent faults, but it's also hard not to recommend it, and though fans of the series will likely see a few bits and pieces throughout the story which hark back to Shepard's adventures, and fans of fast-paced shooters will relish the game's combat, Andromeda - though very nice to look at - will never truly feel like home.

    So what don't I like?

The random glitches that pop up during playback. For example, on one quest it didn't play the audio for the npc I had to confront and bam, I get the decision wheel. Talk about immersion killing. There were also a lot of times with random distorted visuals in areas of the screen (only during single-player). These usually required me to close the application before it would go away. And I'm not sure what is with Ryder's crew, but I just don't care for most of them. Even half the time their loyalty missions felt pretty underwhelming as far as stories go. In multiplayer, I can't say how many times it would randomly crash the game completely. Over a week has passed and not one patch? The earlier ME games had me excited to play when I got home, not so much with this one. No reason to mention facial animations as that has been beaten to death already.

    So what is good?

The visuals are awesome, when you actually explore the planets you can get some amazing views. I like the flexibility of building your custom ability sets. It really allows you to cater to your specific play style. Combat was fast and really fun once you find the build that works for you. Multiplayer was a fun distraction as well. If it didn't crash as much, I'd would play it a lot more. Space travel was what I expected. I hated scanning entire planets in the prior ME games so a quick scan with some great visuals was fine with me.

I'm still not sure about those forward stations...

TLDR; While still a fun game to play, it could have been much better if they delayed the release a few more months. After they finally patch some existing bugs, I think it will be the game I expected. Still worth playing if you liked the ME series, but if you're on the fence give it few months to work out the bugs.

Just no, even ME3 is better than this sad excuse for an Mass Effect game. It looses almost everything that is Mass Effect while keeping almost all the bad parts. Combat is silly at best, controls are buggy, animations are wonky at best. Storytelling lackluster, customization and squadies are not interesting. This could have been great, had it not fell flat on it's stomach.

Graphics look last-gen. Animations are as bad as you have read all over the Internet; very immersion breaking. Missions are a bore. Almost 30 hours in, and may not complete the story because I'm getting so bored. I would stay away from this one folks.

I come to a Mass Effect game to be immersed in a fine crafted believable world and well developed story, not to be bored out of my mind staring at heartless, soulless polygonal abominations that focus either some stupid reason for me to fetch something or how every damn space creature out there wants to bang me(and most of the time I don't want to bang them)

Above all else i just find Andromeda disappointing, i loved the original mass effect trilogy and really wanted Andromeda to be good but after 15 + hours of trying i just can't play anymore.

Also the critic score average being so much higher than the user score average is something of a red flag.

For me, Andromeda simply isn't worth it, however. Not because of the graphics, because they are actually pretty damn good. Note I said 'graphics', not 'animations' - two different things. The animations DO suck. They're actually hilariously bad, considering this is a AAA game, and evidence of yet another title rushed out the door by a studio evidently pressured by EA to do so.

But the animation isn't the killer for me. No, it's a really, really poor narrative which plays out as 14-year-old girl Mass Effect fan fiction, combined with the overwhelming feeling of sheer boredom in the tired, stale and hugely dated game mechanics.

Cover is automatic, but the placement of objects you can hide behind is the real crime - they are hap hazard and often don't contextually make sense. The third-person shooting is generic and dull - functional but tiresome. The obvious and totally unnecessary padding in the search for resources to craft items is terrible game design and should never have made it past QA.

And the cherry on the cake; frequent frame drops. Because a AAA game with smooth performance is apparently too much to ask these days.

It has its' moments and the scenery is jaw-dropping at times, but every time it hits a high note, it balances it out with either a sensationally low one or simply sustained sessions of tedium.

There's a reason I only played four hours before writing this review, and that's because I simply didn't want to play any more of it. When a game makes you feel that way, it's game over at that point.

Thank everything for the used games market - this is going to a new 'lucky' owner shortly!

I personally would have preferred if the game focused more on the political problems that must be in an migration into already settled territory. (Different factions in the expedition forces as well as the natives give so much potential) It is touched upon in a lot of side content but the main content clearly is the fight that is already in the Helios-Cluster.
The fighting in the game also has two sides. On one side I like the more pro active approach you can take with the versatile (if stale) character development and new found movement. But Teammate and Enemy AI as well as a flat progression for "the pathfinder" makes it pale against other recent action-rpgs.

Without the technical problems of quests that get stuck and CTDs I would have given it a 6/10 but with the current bugs I had to subtract some points.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start with this: the mainstream critics' average score for this game, as of the writing of this review is 7.4/10. Now, knowing that said critics are essentially part of a wholly-owned subsidiary of the companies that create products they review, this should tell you just how bad this game really is. Despite that, let's take a closer look.

Playability: My main gripe with this game is the sheer disinterest the "B-Team" at BioWare took when creating the U.I. and menus. Everything is so cluttered and unorganized it makes the most rudimentary task a tedious chore. Removal of the power wheel and the introduction of a three-limit/favorites list of powers is a confusing divergence from something I'm sure every player took as a staple to the experience. BioWare has literally removed any use your squadmates offered in combat. Speaking of combat, though the mobility added a much needed touch, heavy reliance on this idea turned what once felt like a tactical shooter, into a sub-par third-person arcade shooter that is easily outshone by the likes of Tomb Raider and Uncharted.

Story: Possibly the only highlight of the game, I personally found the main story to be compelling and emotional. It kept me interested to the very end and kept me holding my controller on binges a bit longer. However, every sidequest - if one may call them that, given the messy Journal menu that broke them into seven different categories - felt very uninspired and lacking, save for a small handful (such as a certain murder investigation). Assuming one can ignore the obvious political and social commentary trying to be pushed by the regressive writers of this game, it was pretty good. On another note, after researching The Witcher 3 as they claim, apparently nudity was all the developers learned from CD Projekt Red, because sidequest-narrative-importance was non-existent.

Multiplayer: This one is particularly enraging. For a good long while, BioWare assured us that the great leaps and strides made in Multiplayer for Dragon Age: Inquisition would be fully translated into the Mass Effect universe for Andromeda; the only thing of note in the Multiplayer is the blatant carbon-copy of ME:3's multiplayer: 4 people, boxed into and arena, fighting waves (3 less than ME:3, mind you), and doing unimaginative "missions" every few waves or so, and spend outrageous amounts of virtual currency for stuff that should have been unlocked to begin with.

Graphics & Environments: Wow. I remember all the hate Fallout 4 got for it's crappy character models, bland colors and outdated graphics within supposedly the smallest map Bethesda ever made. Mass Effect: Andromeda, to me, seemed to fill much of this criteria even more-so than FO4; while the environments look spectacular on the macro-scale, a close look at anything on any planet just looks ... meh. In Fallout 4 you did get a relatively smaller map, but it was cram-packed with a zillion things to do and see, whereas Andromeda feels like a giant empty space with only one real point of interest on its many" planets". Character models, and especially the character creation tool itself, are preposterous letdowns with absolutely nothing to show for them, other than how much women look like men. Animations are lackluster at best, and a downright insult to fans at their worst.

Sounds/Music/Voice: If the B-Team was shooting par-for-the-course, the many sounds of ME:A are essentially bogeys; nothing memorably good or bad, unless my personal love for Natalie Dormer is something others share.

Verdict: 4.5/10 - Racist crew members and amateur animators aside, Mass Effect Andromeda was a letdown from the get-go and nothing my 100+ hours did anything to alleviate the obvious: an SJW-fueled, incompetent body-snatcher took over the controls at BioWare and made Andromeda before handing the remote back to the A-Team. This has to be the case, because if BioWare knowingly and willingly handed the stick to these people, than they are in for a rude awakening when their next IP or sequel drops.

I have been the biggest fan of Bioware since KOTOR (a late comer I know). Both KOTOR and Dragon Age Origins rank within my top 5 RPGs of all time. I have played every inch of the original Mass Effect trilogy and admired how much detail and heart Bioware gave to this new science fiction franchise.

For MEA, I ignored the early impressions by reviewers and media personalities. I ignored the obvious red flags in relation to the facial animations as well. Because I WANT THIS GAME TO BE GOOD. It was wishful thinking.

The biggest failure of this game is not the technical issues such as the pop up textures, the creepy faces or even the lack of customization for the characters. It is THE WRITING. Yes, a Bioware game which has horrendous, amateurish writing. All characters, including the aliens, are written as if they were high school teenagers on a vacation to some exotic island. If this is not titled Mass Effect, you might be led to think that this is somehow a fanfiction of The OC set in space.

And this style of amateurish writing is not a sign of incompetence neither. I firmly believe that this was a DELIBERATE CHOICE. Gone are the subtleties of intergalactic species relationship and conflict, replaced by efforts to make everyone (including the ALIENS) relatable to casual fans who do not care about the lore at all.

The most jarring of all is your encounter with the Angara (not a spoiler since it was shown in the trailers). Within 2 minutes of encountering the Angara, the Pathfinder can not only understand everything the aliens FROM ANOTHER GALAXY are saying but also understand their basic motivations. The fact that both the player and the Pathfinder can immediately recognize concepts within the Angaran society (even basic ideas such as helping, eating, trust, honesty) is a testament to the effort which Bioware and EA has undertaken to trivialize all "minute detail" of the story.

There are countless other examples. Peebee, the asarian companion, commenting that she only needs a toothbrush and a bed to come onboard the tempest as if she were a human being. Drack the Krogan having a completely human granddaughter and grandfather relationship with 0 comment on the fact that the survival rate of Krogan children is below 5% because of the genophage.

I cannot continue with this game anymore. I can excuse the technical and framerate issues. Hell, I would play this game with characters made out of polygons if the writing were excellent. But with EA and the new Bioware decision makers at the helm, all we can hope for going forward is a desperate cash grab with flashy objects, cheap romances with clunky AI characters and a plot catered for 12 year old.

So long Bioware. It's been a good run but don't ever ask me to buy a single game from you ever again.

The combat is ton of ton with the added mobility and new cover system, which I think is really convenient and easy to figure out. There's a ton of diversity in play styles you can do because of the different profiles, abilities, and weapons.

The new squad really grew on me throughout the story, especially with their interesting loyalty missions. It was hard for this game to match the original trilogy's squad members, and while I think Garrus and Wrex ultimately are still better overall, these new faces do shine and I hope to see them more in future games.

I do have a lot of minor complaints with the game such as dialogue getting cut off by SAM telling you to mine for minerals, the facial animations are a little rough but don't ruin the experience like some want you to believe. There are a ton of filler fetch quests that take you all over the map. Ignoring these is definitely possible, and there are actually quite a few interesting side quests that add to the overall story and give added lore to the new alien races, all of which are really interesting. I just wish there were a few more new alien races.

If you're a fan of mass effect, I say get this game. If you like open world games with a cool story, interesting characters, and fun combat, then definitely get this game. Bioware did a great job here, and while there are a few things that could be improved, this game is living up to my high expectations.

Both the story and characters of ME:A do their jobs, but there is a lack of connection with the characters that was felt in earlier ME games. When tragedy hits, for example, our protagonist and others are able to deal with it without any real sense of emotion or anguish that would've been present in those circumstances.. The story, although engaging, doesn't capture the sense of awe that was present in the first game especially when it came to learning about the world, the clues, and uncovering a conspiracy. In short, the story does it's job, but there just isn't anything that is unique, inspiring, or thought provoking. Lastly, the facial and body animations of the characters are sometimes off to the point it's comical. Not the best for a 2017.. While my love for the series as a whole has tempered my opinion to this game, I can honestly say for certain that after about fifteen hours into it I'm still enthralled. As Ryder, I've been taking my time exploring what the new setting has to offer, and have been going through the missions one step at a time. It's really taken hold of me, and I can't wait to see the end. (I've heard it's disappointing, but I'll let my own judgement decide that for me)

That being said, the game has issues. Lots of issues. Glitches, animation bugs, questionable design choices...The set pieces are nice, the RPG aspects of the Mass Effect series seem to be making a return from the original, the character customization might be a bit lacking in the appearance department and the...female models definitely leave a lot to be desired. These slightly mar the experience a bit, but it's definitely not enough to give this game anything below a 5 or a 6-point score.

Rather than giving it a point, though, what I want to do is RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR PURCHASE. It's not perfect, and the whole experience is kind of hampered by the fact that (1) a lot of folks were expecting so much and (2) it's riding off of the coat-tails (and the controversy that follows it) of Mass Effect 3, but I sincerely hope that they give Ryder their own trilogy to rival the original. There's a lot they can learn from with this game, and I hope they take those experiences to make the next one event better.

I started gaming with those and Mass Effect 1 which, by today's standards is not great. To compare, the first game is a lot like the current game but worse in some aspects. Neither game is terrific for today's gamers or machines. However, BioWare is ambitious and quite open with a great deal of promise if EA will get out of the way. EA may be why MEA is basically ME1 with a coat of new paint and a few improvements. I gave ME1 a 7/10 by the way because the animations were appropriate to the time.

    This game has its ambitions:
    - Large Universe
    - Sets up a story line
    - Come back from the ending of ME3 (a game that was actually phenomenal despite the ending)

    This yields some positive traits:

    - Multiplayer has improved and is heart pounding at times.
    - The new galaxy is large and ready for some sort of plot. Hopefully it isn't the same plot.
    - There is more of a plot than ME1 but the game is still as open.
    - The sound quality has improved.
    - What appears to be a new visual engine or massive upgrade shows signs of promise in the future. This game should have been refined for another 6-12 months.
    - Combat is better than ME1 even if the game is exactly the same in tone.
    - The game drops some of the more boring aspects of ME1 despite maintaining them in a faster paced way.
    - Hardcore and the level above actually give you a run for your money at times as the enemies are harder to kill.
    - The AI is not strong but at least playing combat missions does not fell like shooting at ducks at the fair. This improves on ME1.
    - If you liked ME1, then MEA offers better world exploration and AI with some better visuals.

The ambition and EA also yield a ton of negative traits:

    - Combat has degraded a bit from ME3 but that is probably due to the open world ME1 style.
    - It is 2017, not 2008. This game looks like something ported from N64 to the age of Xbox. That is a regression from ME3.
    - Color schemes are ugly at times. The puke green is just off putting.
    - Character interaction is still not great. Conversations are not as shallow as people giving themselves away but still need work.
    - In an age of tens to hundreds of GB of RAM, terabyte hard drives, the i7, and graphics cards that are better than processors, we are still given very little to do on a planet and poor AI. The game improves on the routine side quests of ME1 but not by much. AI is still like it was in ME3.
    - The character creation is a mess and quite limited compared to ME3.
    - ME is still a massive sex romp in space. Let's move on from the original Battle Star Galactica to the much better 00's remake. Space porn was better to those in the 1970s.
    - The plot feels repackaged
    - Way too much faked liberalism. I think women intentionally outnumber men. It feels like this was a business decision from a bunch of Canucks tempered by Bioware to leave out certain folks who would not really qualify for a real space mission. It is written into the story poorly. I believe in equality but forced equality makes for awful story lines. If you really want integration just integrate your workforce and the writers will carry their personalities to the story in a more relaxed and real way. I am surprised there wasn't a statement about women being just as good as men.

Mostly, the negative traits come in the form of animation and poor character interaction, the EA push to publish, and repackaging, I think EA fell into the common EA trap of reproducing the same plot type, with the same story telling because they think every game is just a business. They seem to be telling BioWare to really just *** off and do it their way. In case EA forgot, they are really bad at making games. It is why they make more money in sports games and why Bethesda is superior. Leave Bioware the *** alone. Art is a business but it is still art and must still move. Sports moves on its own.

In summation, the game feels like ME1 9 years later but with slightly better visuals and AI. That is just wrong. However, it does set things up nicely to a degree. Because of the positives, this game is a 6 and not a 3.

Anyway after playing for several hours i feel that is time to give my own opinion. The new installment of the Mass Effect series is fun during combat and exploration but that is really all it has going for it. The combat flows well and the abilities you have are useful in each situation even though some are more limited than others, like combat abilities such as grenades and the flak cannon. The planets you visit are vast and full of sidequests, yet feel empty and lifeless most of the time.

Now to the cons of the game. The facial animations are so bad you can never tell how your human comrades feel unless they tell you. The frame rate drops in certain scenes making it look it is a stop motion film. The voice acting is horrendous as if the actors just wanted to say their parts then leave the studio with the check. Research and development is boring and unrewarding, it feels with its **** gear but hopefully I will find more ultra rare blueprints to create better gear for my character. Finally are the dialogue choices which dont feel like they make much of a difference in a conversation no matter how you reply.

I have sent strike teams out for missions and they seem to have trouble completing missions but hopefully they will gain experience and be able to succeed future missions. I have yet to do multiplayer but i hope it treats me better than the main story has.

In the older games you could have up to 12 abilities to use counting your team mates abilities, in this game you have 3. We went from 12 to 3 which makes combat really **** booring.
I recommend you dont buy this game and if you must wait until a deep deep sale when the game is under 20 bucks. So disappointing...

I've played the previous three parts and dragon age inquisition with pleasure. And this is where the great problem of andromeda begins. From the game mechanics it is a simple copy of dragon age inquisition. While the previous mass effect parts had a very exciting main story and a constantly flowing gameplay in the missions, andromeda unfortunately misses these qualities completely. The current mass effect is, unfortunately, only a careless copy of dragon age inquisition with a science fiction skin. Most of the game time is spent walking an unnecessarily long distance, always looking for the same containers and constantly checking boring objects with the multifunction scanner. From time to time, the playful solitude is supplemented by a repetitive and tactically undemanding struggle. The Nomad is unfortunately of only very limited benefit, since its control is still buggy. Even the opponents in the game are boring, they seem more like a badly made copy of the collectors from part two. The main story is so thin, that it becomes quickly boring. The environment graphics of the game is very beautiful, this is one of the few highlights of the game. Unfortunately this is relativized by the badly made facial animations. The newly designed dialogue option system is basically a good improvement of the old system. Only this doesn’t really stand out in this boring main story and companions.
I can recommend this part of the mass effect series only for people who loved the gameplay of dragon age inquisition and can’t get enough of it to scan for 100 hours with an annoying multi-function scanner at the forearm for boring research bonuses in the environment. For all the others I recommend for the moment: fingers away.

I’m a huge fan of the original Mass Effect series. I’ve played all three games through at least 6 times (once for each class) with 2 and 3 getting closer to a dozen. To say I was anticipating ME:A would be a gross understatement.

To say I am overwhelmingly disappointed with ME:A would also be a gross understatement.

    Summary
Those fearing a “Dragon Age: Inquisition” in space were right to do so, as this is exactly like DA:I, with some of the names of game mechanics changed and some elements actually worse, although combat is better. The storyline is alright and the main plot has some interesting points, but it’s far too short. The worlds and settings truly are beautiful; however, the technical issues are rampant and the game really feels like it was not finished. Framerate drops are the norm (on Xbox One). The game locked up and had to be force quit a number of times. Enemies would manifest inside walls, making it difficult or impossible to kill them. And characters in conversations would often overlap on screen, literally standing inside one another. BioWare should have stuck with a tighter, more linear story instead of trying for the “huge” open world of which they’re so proud. It didn’t work well for this title. Read on for details.

    Story
The main story is just ok. It’s a pretty typical sci-fi storyline, but that’s not really its problem. The problem is that it feels too short. I would estimate I spent maybe 12-15 of my 80+ hours on the main story. And that includes all of the introductory exposition and talking to everyone. I played one mission where I faced the main baddie for the first time and thought I was about halfway through the primary storyline. Turns out that was the second to last mission. It was very disappointing.

    Combat
Combat is probably the one saving grace in the game, at least for me. The combat is very fluid and, as promised, very dynamic. It’s very hard to just hunker down in cover as in previous titles. The jump jet adds a great mechanic for evading when needed. I didn’t use it much to hover and shoot enemies, as I found it hard to line up and shoot before the system dropped me back down. Very effective for slower enemies but not as much for the rest. I really enjoyed the melee in this game, much more than previous titles. If nothing else, melee was a great way to vent my increasing frustration with the game.

    Loyalty Missions
The missions themselves offer a good opportunity to interact with the squad. I did grow to like the squad characters, so these were fun. However, these aren’t a single mission, as before. They are numerous small quests that eventually culminate in the actual mission itself. And this can take forever. In most cases, the mission will go “On Hold” while the character absorbs some fact or material that you gathered. I had one character’s loyalty quest take almost the entire game, longer than even the main storyline. And having loyalty doesn’t seem to have consequence either way.

    Side Quests
These are another huge letdown. There are dozens if not hundreds of side quests in the game, to fill in the “huge” semi-open world. Sadly, many if not most of them are incredibly tedious. And to add on, they just take way too long. Step after step after step, chasing across the galaxy to the point that another step would have me yelling at the TV “For the love of God!” because the quest wouldn’t end. Way too much time spent on things that had little or no relevance.

    Planet Scanning
Scanning makes a return from previous titles, and they’ve somehow managed to make it better and worse at the same time. The galaxy map is visually stunning; however, it's incredibly slow, with transitions taking up to a minute for each planet or system visited. Add to this the fact that the only benefit to scanning this time is either XP or a small packet of crafting materials in the form of minerals or components, and BioWare has managed to remove any reason for doing it. They claimed they wanted to make the game about exploring, but completely removed the motivation for doing so.

    Romance
BioWare promised a hugely different romance system, but it really is the same as it’s been in all of the ME titles and the more recent DA:I. You talk to character(s) that strike your fancy. You flirt with them. And eventually you get together. The problem is that the steps in the romance are once again gated by the story. The flirting moves quite quickly. However, if you wait to finish the main storyline, then the romance just stalls, at least with the characters that I romanced. I don’t understand why they didn’t just gate the romance on itself. If you’re progressing, and the character likes you, what does it matter if you finish the massive battle with the big bad guy? It was disappointing for something they touted as new and fresh.

This game I did not like at all its history for the moment does not finish convincing me, some scenarios not so well designed and for my opinion the end of this saga that was already declining a little with his third game.

It is not a bad game but I also did not finish giving its true potential to which we had been promised 5/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Being one of the few people who review this and has actually COMPLETED the game's story, here's my thoughts.

First, the negative: Bugs, glitches, and sometimes poor animations. Gamebreaking? Of course not, nobody in their right mind would give a game a 0 because of some bugs and animation issues. Remember Half Life 1? Buggy as **** but people praise it. The Witcher 3? Worst release ever, but people praise it. You get the picutre.

I actually find the story to be pretty great. It starts off a bit slow, but picks up after a while. The ending was satisfying, and left me with a pretty epic feeling. Even after you're done with the main story, there's so much to do - having only around 60% completion at the moment. Doing the crew's side quests also gives a lot of nice sidestory.

Gameplay is awesome, and the amount of choices you have to change your character on the go is breathtaking. You can play as a charging-melee-maniac Vanguard, or you can be a "wizard" with Biotics, so many choices it's astounding. By far the best gameplay of all the ME series.

Either way, the amount of reviewers here who has only played the trail is laughable. It's rather obvious most of the negative reviewers hasn't even played through half of the story. They read on the internet that it's bad, and joined the bandwagon because they're sheep, without the ability to have an opinion for themselves. It's pathetic, and doesn't do the game justice.

For each person who marks this review as "not helpful", it just proves my point further. Thanks in advance.

Especially when it's about feelings, rpg, and character presentation.

But thats not the major point, even it is jumping into your face during the game.
The major point is - it's soulless.
I try to sum it up:
    - characters are not interesting enough
    - the world is huge but has no "exploration" feeling
    - conversations are simple
    - the experience is average to nearly good.
    - the action is lifeless and nearly a bit boring.

And this makes over all the game pretty bad.
This series was amazing and has so much potential.
It turns out that is droping like Dragon Age.
Don't expect to much, when you buy it right now.

Buy it when its cheap, my advise.
Right now, i am not satisfied at all and a bit sad to see what 5 years later came out.

And therefore getting along the 'trend' of **** Im guessing I'm not the only "Mass Effect Veteran" here, but to be honest I feel all this trash talk is just a butterfly effect of the internet(z). I had no hopes when I preordered the game, I did not read a single review or watch a single early-game video about this and that. Nothing. I simply preordered the game and fired it up as the countdown got to zero.
I know some people will not agree with me here, but it really is nice. And of course, things can always be better, like the facial animations as an example, the writing, but to be honest it has not interfered with my experience with the game. I really have to say this, because imo, all this talk about this just makes you overthink it.

But, i do understand when people say its a different game, because it is. It is a whole new design with a whole new perspective of Mass Effect, and i must say, I really do like it. It feels more free and much more personal, the previous games had such a strong redline, it had a more linear approach. And most of all it was SOMETHING NEW. Do Mass effect: Andromeda deliver? Yes, i think so. Does it have bad writing? To some point, a bit maybe. But not too drastic. Is the story bad? No. Its not. The approach to the story is different now. It relies more on how you see the universe and how you calibrate yourself in to the game. In the previous games you had a redline and this was the main storyline missions, and then you had side quests. In ME: Andromeda, there is of course a redline. But its all backed up my SO MUCH tasks, side quests and just pure information you can gather and use to make the journey more interesting.

The combat is a lot better than previous games. You just need to learn it, like with all realtime based combat. Specially if you play on Hardcore or on Insanity. Then the abilities and how you play really comes in to a show. The only thing i guess is that the melee option isn't that viable when it comes to hot-paced combat and this is something i hope they will rethink in a patch or DLC etc.
Im not going to go in to to much of the Crafting, since it it does it job pretty well, specially on higher difficulty. I've also felt a bit of increase in loot on higher difficulty but it might just be a coincidence. Other then that: multiplayer needs re-work. And i hope it will come later on.

A general tip is to play the game on Hardcore mode, because it makes you really play with the games mechanics instead of just surfing along. It is ALOT harder but alot more fun, and it also takes more time. I really think its the way to go, Just like with Witcher 3 - you have all these crafting materials and armor/weapons to craft but no use of it if you don't play hardcore. It all makes more sense. And gets more intense!

I've experienced just about every type of bug I could think of, thankfully I was at least able to finish the game and my save file was okay. I can't believe a AAA game was released in this state. DA: inquisition wasn't shipped this way, not even close.

The strong point of the game is the combat, it's a lot more free flowing and fast paced the DA: Inquisition.. However, you do so much of it against the same handful of enemies it grows tedious over time and very easy. They needed a lot more enemy variety for a game this size.

The graphics are fair, many worlds are barren (that's conveniently part of the story), but other areas have nice lighting effects. Animations are very dated and bad, with very few in-engine cut scenes compared to prior games. The game runs like ass, even on my set up (gtx 970, 16 gb ram, core I5, Samsung solid state drive), using the "auto detect" settings and has TONS of hidden load screens. They took all the pleasure out of exploring the galaxy by having 5 loading screens between going from 1 colony planet to another. It's atrocious design and will bore you. But that's not the only thing that drags down the game...

The writing a big step down from the original trilogy. Ryder rarely has anything interesting to say in dialog wheels, but there are some moments here and there. I was disappointed I couldn't be as aggressive or persuasive in conversation as Shepard or other RPGs. Since dialog is mostly boring you will find yourself skipping it often (which is sad because this is my favorite thing in Bioware games). Also, there is A LOT more important information in the form of data pads/e-mails, ect. E.A./Bioware apparently wanted to save costs on voice acting, so much of the less generic info is in text, which is a shame.

Oh, and btw the way, the ending is every bit as bad as ME 3, if you didn't like it's ending (I did). There are many unresolved plot points and this is a stand-alone game according to Bioware (wtf are we getting DLC? none is announced), which is disappointing. There is some cool info revealed in the end though, so it's worth getting to the end for that if you feel like you want to quit midway into the game like I did.

There are some many pointless, repetitive side quests that I would recommend skipping. If you stick to the main quests you're going to have a much better time. Even then you can see they putt a lot of pointless backtracking and tons and tons of fighting the same easy enemies over and over to pad the game. You fight the 1 boss type there is in this games literally 5 different times. It's so lazy.

Character progression is okay. It's largely copy/pasted from Mass Effect 3, which is disappointing, but you can mix and match powers from combat, tech, and biotics which is cool (although it hurts the story somewhat imho, as powers aren't used in dialog options like other ME/Bioware games). It's mostly boring passive stat boosts to you powers. I like that picking a class gives unique perks now and that you can reset your powers anytime. Melee combat is actually viable this time so being a Vanguard works really well, expect against big enemies which will still 1 shot you if you get too close.

There's a weird garrison mission screen like in World of Warcraft called "strike teams". It's very lame, but thankfully you can skip it and not miss anything. The also have a system similar to the power system similar to DA: Inquisition, except it's not required to unlock new areas and is much less interesting as far as your choices are concerned.

I didn't try multiplayer as it does not interest me, so please keep that in mind. I heard it's decent.

All in all, I can only recommend this game to hardcore ME fans or people that love combat regardless of how repetitive it is and want to do multiplayer as well. The game is full of issues that won't be corrected by a patch or two. The game needed 6 months to a year more of development to iron out issues with numerous bugs as well as game design flaws, as the game doesn't seem to have made it out of late alpha before it was released.

Here's to hoping we get updates to fix this game in the future. With no mod support like Fallout 4 had, well, only Bioware can bail themselves out.

Extremely disappointing. How could a game in 2017 have such a limited and genuinely ugly Character Creator. You cannot custom a Character, only slightly alter a preset of very limited skin tones and face shapes. How they could get something so integral to an RPG so very wrong, baffles the mind.

The texture problems, characters morphing in and out of scenery, team mates getting stuck, important dialog that doesn't trigger until 1-2 minutes AFTER the important thing happened you needed the dialog for, and your character randomly freezing in mid-action are just a handful of what is wrong with this game. With a patch or two, ME:A could be a generally solid sci-adventure. But, man..I am sincerely disappointed. This goes beyond just the aesthetic problems; personally I can live with the weirdly bad animations and such...but the game has to be PLAYABLE and the second time I got killed because I literally lost control of my character while the game merrily kept going I just really had to be intellectually honest: this game not only needed more time in the oven, but was released in an inexcusable state. I am really bummed. I hope they fix some of this crap soon, cuz I feel pretty ripped off on this one. Expand

An ugly mis-step in a franchise I once enjoyed so much. Hideous animation bugs all but ruin any sense of immersion or connection to the plot. I was not on board the hate train before I got my hands on the game to see for myself. Unfortunately the early reports are true. The animations look like they are from 1998. Sorry, but this is just not acceptable in 2017. The eyes look like plastic, the animations are stiff and the facial expressions are creepy. Obviously there was no Motion Capture used to create the animations. Also II was not on board the hate train before I got my hands on the game to see for myself. Also I encounter a lot of bugs like false animations, enemies falling through the environment. The slow start of the game leads to a more interesting experience. However, you cannot expect quests like in Witcher 3. In Andromeda it is usually something like "Get to point A and scan. Ok now go to point B. Ok you are done.".
The reason I give a 1/10 and not a 0/10 is the great skill system that let's you build the character you want to play. Yes, other games have done it before, but hey, at least they did SOMETHING like current gen games.

Completely rushed, and it showed beyond belief. I'm glad they gave us a free trial. I was able to save my wallet from purchasing this poorly made game. Such a shame the series had to come to this.

It has it's shortcomings, But it is still a fun game to play and so far i enjoy it. There are vast areas to explore, quite a bit of humour, the colonisation aspect of it looks really interesting.

Original grade would be 6.5, but to counter 10/10 trolls had to mark 0.

Game really bad in today's standards. Very repetitive missions, boring main story, childish new alien races, full of bugs and glitches. The animations, especially face are terrible, what were they thinking? Only kids who only played Call of Duty before would mark this 10/10. We are tired to be EA game-testers.

This game definitely doesn't deserve the groundswell of negative attention it's received recently– negative attention it's worth mentioning definitely originated with the kinds of trolls who like to talk about "ess jay doubleyous" like they're the gravest, most widespread threat to America in the world today.

It's not an amazing masterwork of a game, let me be clear. But I think that my enjoyment of it is related to the fact that I actually replayed the trilogy before Andromeda came out, and so my rose-tinted glasses for the originals were freshly snatched from my face. Andromeda may suffer from sidequests that feel irrelevant to the action, but three weeks ago, playing ME1, I got to experience the conclusions of fights that I'd have to try five times on Insanity giving me a box of text and a couple thousand credits– so hey.

I still love the trilogy in spite of the fact that the writing can be awkward, the plotting weirdly paced, and the payoff to quests sometimes lackluster. Those games sparkle for me, and after I spent some time with Andromeda and got through the bland introductory segments, I found where this game shines too.

Anyways, here's a list of my pros and cons, but not in that order.

    CONS:
Facial animations. Undeniable. It's not as bad as a lot of people like to make it out, but it's still pretty glaring. Fortunately, the painful tends to come in short moments, the rest of the time faces just look a bit bland and awkward.

Sidequest creep: I play a lot of open world games, but honestly I prefer a tightly focused narrative experience offering choices to the player. ME:A overwhelms you with things you can do, but probably don't want to spend the time on, and it's difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

The protagonist: Ryder feels like a weird amalgamation of audience stand-in and their own person, its just that that person is really bland most of the time. Sometimes, there are great moments, most of the time the game's heart has to rest on the other characters.

Scanning and crafting: I'm tired of scanning and crafting. I don't want any more games that make me scan and craft. Here, it's especially bad, though.

    PROS:
Combat: Feels great, plays great, strikes a balance between fun and hard. I doubted that I'd like the replacement of classes with swappable "profiles," but in the end I loved being able to build my own ability sets and play with a newfound freedom. New mobility and weapon variety only improves it all.

Characters: I was worried when none of the characters seemed very interesting or believable at the beginning of the game. I'm glad that I stayed with it, because for me the squadmates were what provided the real heart of this game, giving me more to invest in than the main story offered. Except Peebee. I just have to tolerate her being around.

Exploration: While I don't like the creeping, numerous sidequests which aren't relevant to much of anything, or the mechanics that exist solely as boxes to be checked, the game is built around a single theme- exploration, and ultimately I think they made the right choice. The story feels strongest when the game sends you into the unknown, away from the ground of evil armies and vanished precursors where the originals already tread.

Sometimes it just doesn't all work together, but more often the game sucked me in for hours, wanting to experience more.

Andromeda is it's own spin-off of the Mass Effect series, though it does share the title of 'Mass Effect' it's taking place away from the actual lore of the game, do you see any Mass Effect Relays in Andromeda? How about the fact the canon ending to the series destroys all of them in the first place, but I digress.

Andromeda is a great game, something I've waited for but deliberately avoided the bad press and negativity surrounding it knowing that the dislike of a game that not everyone has yet to play can be quite hurtful to both the games sales and it's chances at a Sequel. Not saying one review will matter but people should know.

When playing there will be some issues with Animations, but as I played through they became less and less noticeable as I grew more and more interested into the lore and the story given to you. 65 hours spent so far and I already started a new game + Just to experience new ways of playing and how to properly use the Profile system based on what's going on.

The shooting aspect is quite fun, similar to other third person games for sure, even if the cover system can be somewhat annoying at times and it frees up a button or key depending on your system.

The story is where the game truly shines, though some say it's awful and the like the story is a slow start, after all you just arrived in an unknown galaxy where you've only ever seen it through scans and pictures. Within moments of landing on your first planet, Eos, you find yourself surrounded by a irradiated wasteland of a planet. A bit droll but as you progress the planet becomes much, much more alive.

To keep this as spoiler free as possible, when it comes down to it, form your own opinion of the game by playing it, only you can know if you're going to enjoy a game. It has problems sure, but I rarely ran into any during my play through and I had 100% completion. Perhaps it's a console thing but on PC I didn't see much of anything that was show to the masses.

8 out of 10 for it's story and it's ability to keep me going, plus finally seeing a female Turian for an entire game and being able to romance her as Sara Ryder? Talk about a different experience than the Asari choices from before.

Play it how you want to play it, that's how it's designed, enjoy the game and don't let others ruin it for you.

This is total trash. Can not believe EA and Bioware both hyped this to be one of the best games of all time and it is nothing more than a complete graphical mess.

Hey everyone, just giving my thoughts on the game as a whole from my experience at this point. Is this the ME of old? No, but that's not a bad thing though as I welcome the brand new experience. I understand with the new engine there will be some things not proper within the game, as core engine transitions can be challenging.

I will say that the game running on Frostbite is a great thing to see as the visuals are great. I haven't encountered any of the buggy issues that were initially talked about at launch, and also the lack of emotional facial expression would be nice to see patched if possible (was done via update in Horizon: Zero Dawn). When you have the emotion of the characters play out along with the story, it helps with further immersing you into the experience.

Being able to openly explore the galaxy created is great. All the tools and weapons available too along with the archetypes for your character to level up with is cool. Especially how you can switch them up at will is a great touch. So I definitely enjoy the gameplay and the mechanics in the game. I feel that it gives a good balance between the action and the RPG/exploration elements of the game. There are many happenings on the side of the main quest that you can definitely get lost in and spend hours with exploring.

Overall, I'm having fun with the game. I expected a different game and it's definitely not the same Mass Effect from Gen 3, but this is a refreshing experience as a whole.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
