Bioware and EA just stop feeding us some garbage product for full praise. Stop supporting feminism and stupid well-sold game conceptions. Start making good games!

A faulty product where everything is half-baked, with the exception of normal and facial animations which are just in class of its own when it comes to utter failure. Not to mention Male Ryder only has 1 human female option, which is just dumb, SJW propaganda is strong with this one.

Game glitches often. It has bad animations. Story is not the best. Enemies shoot through walls. Where did all the money go for this game? This is terrible. Bio Ware Took a step backwards in video game evolution with this game. Defiantly not worth $60. Waste of money.

You can see that there are several positive reviews :)
Don't miss your opportunity to chat with developers, designers and their friends & family who have no idea how to do a computer game and in a complete denial as truth is hard for them.

Say hello to Bioware and EA. Hey guys! It would be nice to see you bankrupt in next 15 years.

This might not be a deal breaker for some, but I'm afraid that it is for me.
I like immersion, I like feeling part of a strange, new world while escaping the boring old one.
However, every time I spoke to a npc that look like it was a resident of the uncanny valley or I heard a piece of dialog that sounded like it was read from the back of a cereal box, I was zapped right out the world and back to my own.
I believe this game is a failure as a role-playing game, more so when you account the amount of money, time and effort that went into it.
I now have to accept that the bioware that I knew and loved is dead,
I wanted so hard for this game to be good but I cannot in good faith recommend it to RPG fans.
I suppose if you want something to pass the time and aren't too fussy about what you play, it does have good combat and nice scenic visuals but prepared to be extremely disappointed if you expect anything more.

I canceled my bestbuy preorder, I was hoping for a better game well it's back to For Honor and Horizon Zero Dawn. I remember playing Masseffect 2 on PS3 it was nice but this game is meh. Good luck playing a game with dumb A.I. that just stand there and die. This is not a real Mass-effect game.

ME:Andromeda has a vast world (I give them that), but it lacks in interesting story and compelling characters. ME: Andromeda fails to deliver a complete Mass Effect experience.

I'm just gonna go with the facts that I personally found in the game. I'll start with unpleasant facts, because my first impression was full of unpleasant bugs and irritating features (and it happens right from the very beginning of the game). Character creation is very limited and a huge step backward. The templates are plain ugly, both male and female. You aren't allowed to change Ryder's original face template. Game is buggy and you'll find it quite often the first few hours. Objects/models popping in and out, sometimes they just stuck in place or completely missing. Facial animations are complete failure, they have very little expressions and terrible lipsync.
Some character movement animations are questionable and sometime their limbs may glitch. Dialogues are average or worst if you compare it to previous Mass Effect. Also the final game doesn't look anything like in the trailer (missing "movie effects" and colors just completely different, trailer look much smoother).
Bioware removed Paragon/Renegade features. They also removed classes. The auto cover system is annoying. The squad mates which you're supposed to "mate" with are terribly designed (the ladies are "unappealing", and I'm sorry I'm not into men). The human models look a lot like robot, their faces look like plastic and their eyes are just "dead".

The space fantasy that I always loved from ME was ruined because of terrible first impression. Totally not what I'm looking for in a Mass Effect game. It took them 5 years to make and they are not done. They shouldn't have release it. I don't know where those $40 million go? It felt like the team that make this game weren't working as one, rather scrambled. They should've hire better animator, coder, and tester.

There's a few things worth praising though. The combat system does work. The people who design the combat system need a raise. It felt smooth, quick, and the higher mobility is awesome. During combat you'll feel good. Tons of customization. Apart from the background music being a bit underwhelming, the vistas and the environments looking gorgeous. But those are just part of the game sadly.

They have failed to keep me playing. It's like watching a super high budget movie with great settings but starring bad actors playing as unappealing characters with bad script. How am I supposed to involve myself in it. It definitely not worth my $60, and my time. I felt victim to the hype and Mass Effect past glory.

I hands down without a thought pre-ordered this new title expecting an amazing title given the technology, budget and production values of today.

It's heart breaking to know they botched this title in a serious way and it shows very clearly. All the positive reviews are also a massive let down from the community as they only serve to support or enable terrible travesties to be made out of a once beloved and well regarded franchise.

I have canceled my pre-order for a full refund. I refuse to support companies which such a blatant disregard for quality control let alone drop the ball on essential things like facial animation and engaging dialogue. Out of this I will never again pre-order any game from EA or Bioware again.

Imagine reading the entire Harry Potter series only to discover the last book is absolutely terrible and puts you off the entire thing for good. Now amplify that feeling a thousand times and punch yourself in the face, then you can come close to the kind of let down I'm experiencing. What an utter joke. Shame on the developers. Shame on anyone involved with this title to not step up and speak their mind and protect the franchise.

Please do not support companies like these responsible for ruining titles and releasing unfinished uninspired botched products that only serve to disappoint you to the highest degree.

RIP this review because it’s objective and positive.

It took time for me to get into the swing of this game and ultimately classify it as a welcome and natural continuation of the Mass Effect series for a few reasons. The first reason: the character models are flat out ugly. They quite frankly feel unfinished. It feels like they used Dragon Age: Inquisition’s smooth and colorful models and tried to make them more realistic by adding extra texture and detail to the faces. Paired with the unnatural facial animations, and you are left with this strange midpoint between cartoony and realistic that is strange. When your character first jolts on screen, it is a bit shocking. You are then immediately greeted by more characters, and they look no better. I’ll have to look back, but I remember the models in even Mass Effects 3 looking better.

Adding to the rough start is the fact that it gets off to a very in my opinion rushed start. While I normally would praise a game for jumping right into the action and feel that more games should do it, Mass Effect is a series that values you taking your time. To boot, this game features a whole new story in a whole new galaxy with a whole new cast of characters. I would have preferred it if the game let you wake up, walk around a bit and learn who everyone was and heck, who YOU are. Instead, you wake up, you are engaged with dialogue, and suddenly, you are put to work. It’s one of the few times I was aching for MORE exposition. Between the rushed intro and the ugly characters, I wouldn’t blame most people from being turned off from the get go. It isn’t until you are off the opening location (an ark named Hyperion, one of several arks designed to aid the Andromeda Initiative) that you can breathe and experience what this game really offers the Mass Effect universe. And that “something” is great.

    Freedom.

I’ve often lamented the Mass Effect series for going in the wrong direction compared to where I thought it should go. I was disappointed that the games seemed to favor increased linearity over increased exploration, as I feel that a game that involves exploring space and building alliances lends itself to a more open world form of gameplay. Instead, Mass Effect 2 featured smaller explorable hubs, including the comparatively tiny Citadel. And then Mass Effect 3 increased the size of the Citadel while offering less compelling additional areas. Since then, open world games have become an increasingly sexy genre in the gaming world, and while this leads to a lot of games that are tiring because they are poorly done open worlds with nothing more than repetitive busy work to fill the map or worse, gigantic maps with nothing to do in them (No Man’s Sky), I always thought Mass Effect was a perfect candidate for a more open experience.

So when you arrive on your first mission you get a slice of the more open experience that will only become more open as the chains come off and you are left to your own devices.

Here is also when you will experience your first combat situations, and man. The combat is great. The combat seems to be a controversial subject to some people as the skill choices have become more streamlined and any limitations on weapon choice or play style based on class have been removed. The dirty word “casualization” will be thrown around plenty here, but more streamlined and enjoyable to play while still offering variety is not a bad thing. To boot skill selection is still up to the player and those choices will have a very material effect on how the game is played, making it no less of an RPG than previous iterations. Do you want to go all biotic to manipulate foes and hit them with devastating combinations? Do you want to go all tech? Do you want to go all pure combat? Do you want a combination? It’s up to you.

Further improving the combat is the movement, which was always an annoyance in the Mass Effect series. Before, Mass Effect was largely a pure cover shooter with an often-tricky camera and stoic movement. But now movement is a lot more flowing, making it much more fast-paced and fun. Cover now happens automatically when you move toward a wall with a weapon drawn and getting out of cover is as easy as just moving, making you feel much less stuck to walls. Dashing and the jetpack are great and make for a more quick and verticle experience.Maybe from the outside these changes seem radical, but when you play the game, the changes are nothing but a natural and welcome evolution to the Mass Effect formula.

After this tutorial mission the game begins to take shape. You now have an idea of who you are, what your mission is and your role in the game to come. You will soon be on your first proper planet complete with several side quests, ready to experience the truly great experience before you. If you try to get past the rocky start, you won’t regret it.

Also it runs really well on PC.

    8/10, very good

The game has fun combat, interesting premise and some very good level design(especially when compared to previous mass effect games). At the beginning the story(ala the trial time) is very predictable and slow however I have noticed a significant improvement as I play more and this game feels very much like a Mass Effect game with better combat than its predecessors.

It does lose a couple points for the animations but this is a minor detail that doesn't detract from the game's overall enjoyment.

The control youre given as pathfinder is even more expansive then your role as Inquisitor. The graphics ( minus the small animation flaws) is breath taking. The side quests are the best ive seen yet in a bioware game.

Someone mentioned the main story only taking 15 hours, well ive played about 16 hours striaight, i couldnt stop playing it was so captivating, only a few games have pulled me in like that. And im no where close to done the main story. Im so excited to play more of it this evening.

The people are calling this garbage and a cash grab are most likely the same people that are still bitter over the ME3 ending, time to get over yourselves. And if you wanna nitpick at small flaws, look Witcher 3 had some bugs. It happens in gaming. We are not yet at a point where massive sandbox games that are delivered will not have any graphic flaws or bugs.

Its funny how there were over 100 negativd reviews yesterday, the release day. I say some 0/10s a couple hours after release. Those are the people not giving this beautiful a fair chance. For people that are unsure about this game, dont listen to people on this site. Go look up reviews elsewhere. Honestly this game is an 8 maybe closer to a 9, im giving it 10 on here because they let anyone with an email post a review.

In some points, I was genuinely having a good time toying with the revamped combat and exploration and other times I am absolutely apalled at its technical state, with the stilted and uncomfortable facial animations sadly ringing true. Even more than that, the story and the characters that participate in it are of a lower quality than what we have come to expect from perhaps the greatest trilogy in gaming. Make no mistake, this still feels like Mass Effect with the core components present, but it is also the weakest of them.

Taking control of Ryder, players venture into the Andromeda Galaxy in hopes of starting a new life with the Milky Way races. The first hours don't leave a very good impression, swapping smart and intelligent dialogue of the games before with hammy, awkward dialogue that would be more right at home with an FX drama/comedy. It's not bad, and it's certainly allowed to be different from Shepard's adventures, but none of the characters made as much of an impact as Garrus, Liara, or Legion did and before anyone says "Well Shepard had 3 games!", this game is easily twice as long as any of the games in the Original Trilogy. It's not a matter of length, it's a matter how effectively you use that time. The story eventually goes somewhere and picks up, but it's more in the realm of movie blockbuster, with really predictable threads and a fairly cookie cutter villain. The story and dialogue is further hampered by the technical issues, none that made it unplayable, but definitely noticeable. If anything, you'll enjoy Andromeda's length and where it takes you. And the aforementioned facial animations are back, and they are quite sub-par. It doesn't bother me as much it did others, but when you combine that with dialogue that seldom delivers, it really gets to you.

The main focus this time seems to revolve around exploration and combat, both of which are significantly better. Classes are more or less done away with and instead you are allowed to mix and match however you please among the original 6 classes with a newly added one. The addition of the jump jet keeps the action frantic. It's amazingly still Mass Effect, but definitely evolved. The exploration also has seen a boost with absolutely large worlds to explore (though there aren't as much as you might think). Traversing with the nomad is leagues better than the mako and it always was entertaining if not for the fact that fetch quests are in abundance and most are as unengaging as the name implies. Overall, the quests flow more in the vein of Dragon Age: Inquisition than the Original Trilogy, and that's a damn shame. In addition, the menus are clunky and comparing equipment is a chore. The loyalty missions are what we've come to expect from a Mass Effect game, but it's the characters that sell it decently, rather than great.

It's important to also note that the developers of the Original Trilogy did not work on Andromeda, and it shows. The games is absolutely gorgeous while still retaining its large scale, but are inhabited by quests that do little more than mediocrity The characters (while interesting) aren't as memorable, and the plot (which is supposed to be a standalone and set a foundation for future titles) is only good enough instead of breaking the mold. Despite my criticisms, I very much enjoyed exploring the galaxy map (its rendition of Uncharted Worlds is amazing), combat and exploration are great, and the game is gorgeous. However, there is no denying that Andromeda is disappointing, not because it's a bad Mass Effect game, but because it stumbles in key components that takes any game beyond great. As it stands Andromeda is merely decent, a stepback from the constant amazing the OT delivered. This is not Shepard's favorite game in the Citadel.

Folks on the internet like to be melodramatic when it comes to reviewing entertainment: "Absolute garbage," "RIP Bioware," "Worst possible game," etc. They choose not to view the game objectively and really dig into the meat of what the game offers. Rather, they prefer to destroy the game's rating by giving it zeroes across the board, which is just asinine.

Rather, they prefer to destroy the game's rating by giving it zeroes across the board, which is just asinine.

Sure, Mass Effect Andromeda is probably the weakest in terms of story when compared to the original trilogy. And the facial animations are definitely stiff and often humorous, but the rest of the game looks gorgeous. Texture pop-in and some framerate dips aside, the environments are great and I want to really dive in and explore.

That's the whole point of this game after all: exploration. The original trilogy is about saving the galaxy and building up your resources to combat the Reaper threat. This one is more about discovering new worlds and is generally more light in tone. It's almost like Star Trek in that way. You'll encounter enemies that want nothing more than to take you down giving you the opportunity to experience the game's terrific combat system, but the ultimate goal is to find a habitable world and discover what the universe has to offer. You're not a soldier; you're an explorer.

As for the characters, people compare them to the original trilogy, but they forget that we had 2 to 3 games to get to know those characters. Mass Effect 1 has also really showed its age, so if this is the start of a new series, then it's probably going to be this generation's Mass Effect 1.

So ultimately, I'm giving this game a 7.5, but rounding up since Metacritic doesn't have the option. It's a solid popcorn movie of a game, so don't go in expecting something mind-blowing like Witcher 3. I'm a gamer. I want fun gameplay and a good story is just icing on the cake. Andromeda would be a 9 for me if the story matched. At the end of the day, I don't come home after work to read Shakespeare with a controller.

    PROS:
    + Great combat
    + Great environments
    + Interesting characters
    + Decent voice acting

    CONS:
    - Weak story at times
    - Painful facial animations
    - Sporadic technical glitches

If the grass is not green, you cant rate this game to the ground. Animations are flawless, graphic is flawless, story is a little bit boring but what do you expect from a game where a star trek-like crew is exploring the galaxy. Combat system is a matter of taste. The big funny thing is that everything is flawless except the FX effects. They are a little bit clumsy. Everybody gripe about things which are flawless, but nobody does it about the effects. But they are still ok.

This game is fun, craft items, big freedom of choices when leveling your character, a lot of stuff to do.

If you think, the graphic is bad, open your eyes.
If you think, animations are bad, look at your own clumsy walk cycle.
If you think, there are glitches, dont run against the wall constantly.
If you think, this game deserves 0 score, learn to develop games and make it better or play your 8-bit Pixel games and rate them to heaven.

Mass Effect Andromeda strives to go back to how the first game was, while keeping elements from the 3rd game. Exploration is functional and still more enjoyable than ME1's. The character animations are hit or miss, as well as the writing. But if any of you are remembering ME1-3's animations and writing to be amazing works or art, you need to go play them again. The new class system is a step up in freedom for the player, and the dialogue options are more varied and less cut and dry. Occasionally cheesy dialogue just adds to the fact that this is a mass effect game. It's always been somewhat cheesy. Anybody remember Shepard's best insult for a Hanar? Yeah. Now for starters let me talk about the writing its....alright sounds a bit like if you read any of the warhammer books cheesy at points but undeniably serious at others. i can forgive the writing mostly because i love jrpg games and a lot off those have some grade a cheesy dialogue. now to the animation, so far i am about 14 hours into the game and while i do see the problems most are technical and can be ironed out. while i cant really say i can forgive these issues at launch i will wait and see what bioware does about it. now onto the characters or should i say models themselves. most arnt bad i to would like to know what happened for real when the females got designd and if anything can be done about it (not unheard of for a developer to tweak model looks in a patch or dlc so hers hopeing). now when all of the hate campains are set aside and the problems are moved from the forefront what lies bare is a very fun game. yes the comparison to dragon age inquisition is a good one because they have some of the same qualities. Both are massive and full of distractions a lot of them are good, a few a bit boring. then there is the combat its fast fluid and sooooo much fun its kinda like vanquish if you have played it. combining gun play and kick ass abilities to just f up some grunts is a joy and i wont get tired of it and that's good for an enormous game like this. look the criticism is justified it needs more than a few patches but when the core game itself and it's concept are good and well executed then i have a lot of hope. While i do agree that Bioware really needed to cut ties with Manveer as soon as the first of his posts went up and i am curious about what they have to say on the topic he does not represent the whole team that worked on the game. as far as the thought about them purposouly making the female characters a bit less attractive to appeal to feminazis all i have to say on that matter is we don't know the whole story nor do we know about weather or not it was souly biowares decision or if pressure form somewhere else came into play. All in all jump of the bandwagon and give this game a good look. like the way people are now starting to take a second look at no mans sky after the developer put a lot of time into fixing there game i think bioware should get the same chance. They didn't release a bad game they released an ruff cut diamond that needs a few more polishing(patches and dlc) and it will shine just give it a chance and form your own opinion after playing. It's a great game on its own, it has its issues but in the long run its nothing that takes away from the overall experience, which is a good experience.

The combat gameplay is what really shines through, the fluid animations here are great and presents very enjoyable fights against foes. I also like how they've made it possible for the players to form their own kind of classes by mixing powers, it invites you to try new and different things out and that in turn leads to replayability value. The Multiplayer is pretty fun, but not much has changed from ME3. It's like a very improved version of the mp that we had in ME3, and with the new combat gameplay it's a whole lot more fun. The new mobility invites for new types of combat aswell.

If you love sci-fi then you will enjoy this game, BioWare may not know how to animate faces properly, but they do know how to build immersive and interesting worlds. Epic game that I'd give 8/10, but since I've seen firsthand the kind of undeserved hate it is getting because it's somehow popular now to hate on BioWare and ME, I will give it a 10. I will be enjoying this game for many more hours.

Basically what ME1 wanted to be but never could due to technical limitations. As with all Bioware games, yes there are facial animation problems but if you can see beyond those, the game has a lot to offer.

After 40 hours of playing I only experienced two or three small missions which left me a bit bored, the rest of it was really good. It's a strong start for a new Mass Effect chapter. The only thing Bioware itself and also a lot of the fans need to realise is that the characters in Andromeda need time to develop over a few games just like a Garrus or a Tali had to.

The only thing I was missing was "more" aliens. I think Bioware should have introduced at least two or three more alien races in addition to those already present, especially because they cut out several of the old ones (which is fine to me, but of course I would love to see them return at a later point.)

The improved combat system is great. It feels much more dynamic and speedy and delivers direct control.

Every Mass Effect and sci-fi-rpg fan should give this game a chance. It definitely deservers it and while it may not live up to all of it expectations, it delivers on most of them.

And another note: Just imagine if players back in 2007 would have weighed in the technical issues of the first Mass Effect game (which were never solved) it also wouldn't have come out with a score as high as it did.

I'm grateful for Andromeda, because it is a good start for a new Mass Effect chapter without Shepard while still giving me a lot of easter eggs to think back fondly on the "old journey".

However the game has its flaws aswell. The face animations are pretty bad. After a few hours it didnt realy bother me anymore, but it has to be said. The story is interesting and very different. I like to compare it to a more anime like story where the characters are funny and cool, sometimes in an exaggerated but funny matter. Of course there are also plenty of serious moments in the game.

I like none of the squadmates the game gives you. All of them are mopey or annoying.

The game just follows the same pattern over and over. Go to a planet, do some fetch quests, fix the broken terraforming device, start a colony and maybe assault some military outpost with the same boss at the end. Oh and there is a giant robot worm you can fight on every planet. Same boss every time.

Now sure repetition is common in games. My issue is mainly the lack of window dressing. In ME1, which this game was meant to emulate, technical limitations forced Bioware to be creative and actually do something different on every planet. Here we just get a map you can drive around on.
Given how immersion breaking the animations and ugly models are the lazy repetition becomes noticeable.

ME1 also had these mission debriefings with your crew and the council after each mission. The latter would usually be displeased with your work. Here they mostly don't happen and when they do everyone just supports you. There's basically no roadblocks for you.

Eventually I found one of the Arks and I thought. Great finally a location that could be fun. But it was mostly empty hallways. Same on the Kett's vessel. Eventually even the game just teleported me using cutscenes instead of making me walk through empty hallways.
If that doesn't show how lazy they were I don't know what does.

Now about the immersion breaking ugly models.
This is the first time in more than 15 years I have not played a female character when given the option to do so. Sara is the only caucasian option in the game. And you're not allowed to tweak her like any of the asian, indian or african faces of which you get multiple ones. Bioware seems to have missed the memo when diversity activists said that it's not about taking away choice but adding it.
But it does feel in line with the usual hypocrisy and petty attitudes of SJW's.
But what do I know. It doesn't help Sara is ugly and the subpar animations compound the problem.

Not that the males are much better. I eventually went into the menu options and enabled helmet gfx to always be shown. Another thing I've never done before. I just couldn't stand looking at his plastic hair. I absolutely hate it. Same with Ken in Street Fighter 5.
How does this **** get thru Q&A? Are people really that blind they can't tell the hair looks horrible?
Can't they tell there are no caucasian options? Can't they tell the animations are subpar?

Writing is mostly forgettable. Except maybe for one thing.

At one point Jaal one of the natives to Andromeda expresses his discomfort aboard your ship and all it's "aliens". You are given to options to react to this. You can tell him that to you he's the alien and basically express how these feelings are common to both of you and thus you're not all that different.

Or you can tell him he's a **** bigot.
I don't know but in my book that's a hateful response typical of modern progressives who are not interested in trying to develop a meaningful relationship. In fact it's downright absusive.
It's so weird to see SJW's do this over and over again. Do they seriously think this is a smart way to interact with people? Quite frankly... that line should have been cut from the game. And there's other such instances but whatever.

    To fix this?
I'd cut the remnant from the game because that'd remove the malfunctioning terraformers from the game. Thus there'd be no excuse for the lack of cities and proper civilizations in the cluster. There'd be politics and strong military strength limiting what you can do. They'd have to be creative instead of every planet being barely habitable with some small outposts here and there.

With the remnant gone they could develop the Kett a bit and actually make them interesting. And perhaps cut 2 planets from the game so you'd have to tell the story a bit faster.

The game crashes roughly 50% of the time on wave 6 or wave 7 meaning you waste 10-20 mins. and don't get any reward for it. It still functions on a host-based system (in 2017 lol) which creates a multitude of lag fests. The RNG for the loot based reward system is ridiculous. You spend 50000 credits for a pack of five items which normally contains 1 weapon/character with 2 boosters (I currently have 50+) and two consumables. Lots of bugs causing certain abilities not to function properly (Why is Avenger Strike affected by the Shield Gate if it's considered a melee attack?).

    Now for the singleplayer:
You've already heard about the ridiculous facial animations (default Sara Ryder honestly looks like a mutant). The customization options are more of a "select a template and change its hair and eye color." Rather than give you a diverse set races for companions, you get two humans and only four others (no Salarian is a big no-no for me). Some races didn't even "make the cut" for Andromeda like the Drell and Volus. Only one new race in an ENTIRE new galaxy. Mediocre and predictable writing.

This game feels like EA tried to milk money out of ME fans with a lackluster title. I am thoroughly disappointed with the quality of this game. The majority of these issues should never have passed quality control tests. Honestly, I won't be buying another EA/Bioware game again. Terrible production value with very little response to community feedback.

Not only am i dissatisfied with the game but i have absolutely no desire to play this game a second time. I will however mention that there are good aspects of the game. On pc i was running a gtx 1070, 16 gig of ram i7 6700. The games environments look amazing and it ran great at 60 fps with vsync on. The combat i thought was another strong point. And i would say that's all i can think of that was good about me:a. The story of all of the arks looking for planets in the galaxy to settle on was actually a good idea. But i felt they really fumbled on all other aspects of the story. Lame generic villain. Uninteresting crew mates which none had any charisma besides peebee. The cora romance didn't feel like a romance at all. No chemistry with ryder at all. It was basically flirt with her during conversations, do a few loyalty missions for her and thats it. Then you get to have sex with her once. When i reached the last mission i was a bit surprised i was already at the end of the game. I did do quite a few side missions and the campaign still felt unusually short. Overall i regret buying the deluxe version of the game. I actually regret buying the game at all. Last night the game got some broken and confused I had to reload in order to continue with mission (only after wasting about an hour trying to find out why I couldn't progress).

You could compare this game to the previous in the series, some won't think that's fair and I would agree you have to take this on it's own merits but it's worth noting that almost everything the previous titles did that is present here... They did it much better.

This is fairly dull story, you'll care very little for the characters and the ultimate conclusion (if you can call it that) is not particularly satisfying... The controls are very clunky, load times are slow and it is not pretty by current gen standards. The music is better than I think most give it credit for but it is still too muted and not as epic as it could be. The game feels like lots of people had some great ideas but went off into separate rooms and developed them alone then tried and ultimately failed to put them all together.

Finally... The argument from many is that all these things will be patched and we'll have a shiny piece of brilliance once finished... But the point is this game was released, sold for £50+ and so should work off the bat. The other is "making games is hard, how can they expect to find all the bugs?", were it only a few bugs I don't think anyone would be that rattled... It's the sheer lack of polish that is offensive, as is if they didn't even bother to test it or simply didn't care - oh, and plenty of other developers make games of this scale without even a fraction of the issues or freakish looking characters.

In ME: Andromeda, I stopped reading after 20 hours of gameplay and basically just rushed to the mission points on the map because it all became a boring, repetitive hassle with no impact on the story or the world whatsoever. I even tried loading save points where dialog options were given to try different outcomes, but they were all the same.

Praise for the new combat system are OK, but sometimes overrated. The tactical choices from the original trilogy where you would balance your squad to cover your power weaknesses (like picking squadmates with good powers vs armor because you were focusing on vs shields), or when to have your squad use their powers in the perfect moment, is gone. Individual combat is good in this game, but the removal of the mentioned features is a big let down for me.

Reviews that have popped up such as in mmorpg.com saying that the game was not as bad as it's been said, blaming people fixation with bad animation or ugly women and other excuses, I believe they are grabbing at straws. Case in point: ME 1, 2 and 3 female Shepard options were fugly; ME 1 still has game breaking bugs; there were buggy animations, poses and moments all over the trilogy, and players still loved it. Players and reviewers remarking on those bugs in Andromeda are doing so because these faults are just nails in the coffin, not the cause of discontent or disappointment.

This is my first Mass Effect game. Going against my better judgment and giving into my friends constant overhyping of this game I decided to buy it. I've played both the story and multiplayer, and both have left me with a feeling of disgust. I'm not going to go in the same direction as everybody else and knock the animations, which were bad and obviously lacking polish, but instead, I'm going to focus on the conversations in the game and the multiplayer.

The single-player portion of the game has potential, It's clearly obvious the game is expansive and has room to grow, but I can't get passed the pointless conversations. I understand the game's central focus is your character's interaction between other characters within the game, but every conversation doesn't seem to flow well with your dialogue choice. In the first missions I was given the task to restore power to an outpost, in doing that I met with an NPC behind a door. To convince him and gain his trust all I had to do was "sound like a pathfinder". He didn't require me to prove ID, kill some giant monster that has been attacking his camp recently, hell he didn't even want me to collect some obscure herb found only in some remote section of the galaxy, just sound like a pathfinder. These conversations are so stale, unenjoyable, and lack a clear direction that it completely breaks any form of immersion you may be able to muster up if you got passed the animations.

Now for the multiplayer, I actually did enjoy this. Which is why I gave the game a 4. The multiplayer was fun for about 20 hours, then the grind became too repetitive. After opening nearly 200 boxes I realized I wasn't even halfway to obtaining all of the upgrades to my gear, this would require me to open up another 400 boxes and some 1000 gold difficulty runs. Opening boxes were fun, but many of the classes, weapons, and mods were pointless. Assault rifles are completely useless due to the rapid spread of the reticle after holding the trigger for a mere 1 second. Shotguns have absolutely zero range and there is no pay off for risking your life to get within range, the damage is barely visible. Snipers are well snipers, they are either hit or miss, in this case, the vanquisher is probably the only one you should use. The only weapons that felt worthwhile were the pistols, namely the Charger and Talon. Character classes too felt underpowered in comparison to the Asari Duelist. The other offensive classes are incapable of doing any real damage and the defensive units can barely maintain the same bulk as the Duelist. My last major issue the server quality. I can't get into a single game without there being some kind of lag. This here is a prime example of why dedicated servers are necessary for any game with online capability. *I guess one last issue, actually more of a pet peeve, but in the prestige tab, if you look at the weapons you will that they have a majority of the weapons mislabel. Snipers such as the Black Widow are labeled as a pistol, the Revenant as a pistol, and so on.

Honestly, this game needs a lot of work and TLC. They should have pushed the game back another year or two to work out all of the kinks and give this game the polish worthy of the hype surrounding it.

I am usually in the preorder camp when it comes to Bioware. Even after the crap known as the ending of ME3. I preordered Andromeda. I know, my mistake. Not going to mention animations, cause that has probably been typed to death, (for real, they're terrible.) but what's more tragic is the forgettable story and dialogue! There is hardly any thread of a decent story line in Andromeda, the characters are pretty linear, and the dialogue comes off as fan fiction at times. I, personally, can look the other way with small amount of bad animations, but for a Bioware game with a terrible story, dialogue (plenty of examples, Liam's banter about shooting a guy in the face in the earlier scene, Sara Ryder talking to Suvi, etc.) , and characters? That's tragic. After finishing the game, I got the sense that it was like the rough draft of the ideas, made it to the final version, instead of really crafting a narrative that isn't as cheesy as what is in the game. That can't be patched up. Who came up with the idea of the mini games being sudoku puzzles? Really? Missions and side quests turned out to be small to major fetch, scan quests. Speaking about mission quests, talk about not feeling threatened by the Kett. Pretty boring bad guys.

What was good about the game was the fighting mechanics. If they focused a lot of time and effort in the story, dialogue, and characters, as they did with the combat this would have been a great addition to the Mass Effect universe. But no matter how many patches and updates they put in (which they should have delayed it to fix the fixable bugs and glitches before launch) they can't fix what really is broken in this game.

This game has real issues. Ignore the triggered anti-"SJW" crusaders. It's bad because of bad writing and animations. They've neglected the story to put more into MP and creating more action-based system. This was a bad decision.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
