    I have been gaming for half of my life. I have had the opportunity to see games well ahead of their time and I’ve seen games that should have never left the studio. Fallout 76 is one of the games that should have never made it out of the studio. I was optimistic and excited for a new Fallout game, seeinging the demo and hearing about all of the changes to the engine, I was too optimistic.I have been gaming for half of my life. I never once had a fun time, there is nothing in this game, nothing makes you feel immersed. You’ll start off by running from one dead town to another dead town to listen to a tape. This is 90% of the time you’ll spend in the game if it’s not organizing your inventory of 10 slots. This game was a good idea, never once was it executed. If you want to purchase a 10 year old game that is still in pre-alpha state, Fallout 76 is for you!… Expand

    I am convinced any, and every perfect score given by users on this game are bots. This game was not ready for publication, not even close. At absolute best, it was a late Alpha/early Beta release.

    This isn't a game; this is an unfinished project that was handed in because they ran out of time.

    I'm disapointed, in this game and in bethesda. Really put my faith in this and hoped that they knew what they were doing. After playing for many hours, beta and release, I've come to my conclusion. Exploring- fun, especially with another friend/player, but alone not as much, missing companions a lot of times.. Quests- What i found the most fun in previous fallout games, not veryI'm disapointed, in this game and in bethesda. Really put my faith in this and hoped that they knew what they were doing. After playing for many hours, beta and release, I've come to my conclusion. Exploring- fun, especially with another friend/player, but alone not as much, missing companions a lot of times.. Quests- What i found the most fun in previous fallout games, not very interesting in this one, they didn't do it right this time around.. World overall- Beautiful and interesting locations to discover, although anti climatic if one area already has been looted by someone else (server hop solves it but still) or if an area is suuuper cool but there's literally nothing there and i'm left feeling like "that's it?"...
    That's the best things i feel like (at the moment), I do hope that Bethesta take action and fixes all of the glitches and bugs soon as possible. Because there are a lot of bugs let me tell you, and soo many glitches. The things wrong with this game are not okay and they should have waited with release because they're not in any rush to fix them now...
    My advice to anyone wondering if it's worth the money- you can't really know if you'll like it, but it's definitely not worth the 60 dollars! Buy it on sale of wait and see if the issues get fixed.    … Expand

    The graphics are quite successful and there are countless interactive quests. A very beautiful adventure has passed through this game and with your friends.

    This is not what I expected. We knew it will be buggy and a rough start,but this kind of mess just not worth a penny.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nothing like the previous Fallout games, which were my personal fav games of all time. This latest one ruins the franchise & is simple a drop-dead boring empty world with no goals. I can't imagine what the team @ Bethesda must have thought.

    Wow, how did this ever get released? I've played better mods. Bugs from 4 years ago and most of the same assets. I think this is just a recycled garbage Christmas money grab. Don't buy this game. Don't let Bethesda get away with this.

There are plenty of bugs but the microtransaction works very well!!!!! 2018 shamest game... Technically and overall.     Worst game EVER. Quickie, quickie, and again quickie. Worse than ever. The worst thing ever done by bethesda. i have no words. PVP, PVE, constructing, quests, everything is disgusting.

    First of all, we released a buggy piece of code, then continued with various fixes for 50 gigs, deleting the game because the client wanted it, not correct positioning of the product itself, just the worst communication with fans, with a price tag like RDR 2. I think that for such an attitude to their fans, they do not deserve not a single cent.

    alright, so this is not the best game ever, but still its not a garbage too. I played for several hour now and after you got a good basic of all the item, weapon, gun you can enjoy it more. but before that you dont really have the choice to play with always the same tactic over and over.
    The game feel bit empty, but in the same they put some many different creature.

    I have over 2000 hours on Bethesda games.

    This is Fallout 4 adapted for multiplayer, the perk card system is enjoyable, me and my girlfriend are enjoying the game. No crashes, pretty seamless gameplay, the game looks good (Exactly like FO4), and having other players running around makes the game feel more ALIVE. Lack of NPCs is a silly thing to complain about, and the decision to remove    I have over 2000 hours on Bethesda games.

    I really enjoy this game for what it is. But I am a fallout-nerd who have enjoyed playing fallout since the very first game. Sure this one is different but it is what it is and it is what they said it was going to be.     I actually like the dead world without human npc´s. When i´m playing with friends there´s no time to stand around and listen to long dialogs and you could not change the main story with dialog options even if you wanted too because it´s online. I had very much fun exploring the map but it came to an end because all the bugs. It looks crap because textures are not loading in. The combat is usually only at a couple of frames per second on my PS4 Pro. Animations don´t work. Invisible walls and ruble. Loot disappears in objects. Enemy´s don´t fight back. Enemy´s spawn in beside you. Enemy´s get stuck inside objects. Path finding is awful, enemy´s are running against walls. Settlement building is bugged. VATS is broken, accuracy can shift between 100 and 0 for no reason. And much much more, even bugs from fallout 4 is still there, mainly power armor bugs. The final nail in the coffin was that my character takes damage all the time without any reason where ever i am, what ever i do. This is the first Bethesda game i played for less than 100 hours..… Expand

    Story: A lot of the negative reviews I see are complaining about a lack of a main story (Although there is one that I find very interesting to follow along with) - It's more or less about discovering what happened to the survivors of the war and what gave rise to the Scorchbeast menace that may or may not have wiped them out after the bombs dropped. It's mostly presented through the environment, holotapes, terminals, robots, and notes. It's VERY Bioshock in that regard, and I think it's a great approach.

    Bugs: I've encountered a few. Item duping/losing which needs to be fixed. However, despite all the rage about it, this has been one of the least glitchy Bethesda games I've played at launch in a very long time. The bigger bugs are already scheduled to be fixed, and Bethesda is starting a weekly newsletter to keep players in the loop moving forward.

    Gameplay: It plays just like Fallout 4 more or less. Honestly I feel that it runs a little better, and I think it looks a lot better. The biomes are more diverse and the amount of land to cover is much larger.

    Over-encumbrance is a pain because it limits fast travel, but you ca absolutely live with it while searching for a place to scrap and stash.

    VATS is back, though since it can't pause a multiplayer world, it works as an aim-assist by default. With proper perks and hotkeys, the user can target specific limbs or auto-crit. I personally love it and use it all the time.

    In typical Bethesda game fashion, I often log off with more quests than I started with. Lots of the dailies and events get old, so I do hope that they continue to introduce new ones.

    All in all though, I have been having a blast and hope that the community appreciates it for what it is, and not what they convinced themselves that it should be.    … Expand

    Whether playing solo or with a group, this game has a huge supply of untapped potential which seems to be within arms reach thanks to the regular updates. Fallout 4 was great Fallout NV was one of the best games I have ever played, but this? Fallout 76 is what I would expect from a small indie developer, not Bethesda.

    From the lies told at the E3 event to the manipulative “B.E.T.A.” this is a mess.

    I honestly feel used like many others. This is a sad excuse for a Fallout game, I was so excited, now I want a refund.

    The Fallout franchise was one of prestige in the gaming community, with this release it has turned into the laughing stalk of games in 2018.

    I URGE YOU to spend your hard earned cash on an amazing game like Red Dead Redemption 2, my personal favorite of the year. If you are look for a good Fallout experience this is not that.

    This game was flawed from its conception, and with be known as the game that ruined the reputation of one of the best game studios of all time.

    This is my first ever review on Metacritic but I feel I have to post this because this game is getting too much undeserved bad criticism and a lot of reviewers here seem to not have given the game a fair chance. I've been playing this game with my wife and it's quite perfect as we can play FO76 both together and alone without feeling like either of us has been missing out on a single main storyline. The game is just another totally different experience from the previous single players Fallouts so it should not be ranked according to the same parameters. You can tell that years of work went into this game and frankly it seems rather rude and immature to dismiss this game without even putting a good few hours of trying it out.

    I'm a big fan of the Fallout series and yes:
    - The game is quite buggy and crashes out regularly, which IMO is bad but forgivable as it does not significanty detract from the game experience
    - The lack of human/non hostile NPCs did disappoint me at first, as one of the most enjoyable parts of the Fallout series were the fascinating characters and societies.

    What at first I missed myself and most of the negative reviewers also missed is that:
    - the world is absolutely huge and has so much variety and hidden storylines. Despite the lack of human NPCs, there are many great robot run places which add a lot of flavour.
    - the variety of guns and armour has been decisively increased
    - the search and manufacturing of junk goods becomes a quite rewarding ingredient in the "survival" theme
    - the teamplay (when possible) is actually a lot of fun and taking down big enemies accompanied by other players is really satisfying
    - the camp building is pretty awesome as it requires some effort being put in it to search for plans and levelling up to increase budget. You can also build your base pretty much anywhere which allows for some very cool views.

    So, anyone looking to buy Fallout 76 I would strongly recommend. To those who have bought it and are disappointed so far I say, give it a proper try and add in-world friends, it gets better and better as you play it.    … Expand

    I originally rated this game a zero because I couldn't log in, turns out it was playstation's fault. The game isn't perfect but has potential and is already better after the first big patch. If you like Fallout and have some patience, you may end up liking this game. It's been on sale everywhere.

It's full of lore and stories about how the things we take for granted in Fallout, Super Mutants, Raiders, Ghouls, the Brotherhood of Steel etc, came to be in the universe after the bombs fell. The game is experiencing growing pains, but the game play itself, the world that was created, the systems that are in use throughout theFallout 76 is the most and the least Fallout game of all. It's full of lore and stories about how the things we take for granted in Fallout, Super Mutants, Raiders, Ghouls, the Brotherhood of Steel etc, came to be in the universe after the bombs fell. The game is experiencing growing pains, but the game play itself, the world that was created, the systems that are in use throughout the game to maximize fun play while minimizing griefing are superb. There are blips and stumbles here and there, but nothing that would take away form the pure unbridled exploration that exists throughout Appalachia.

    People complaining about the food/hydration systems have not played this game for very long. Every system, be it shooting, melee, food, hydration, carry weight, all increase as you level up as a player. This is an RPG and if you were in a vault for 25 years and went outside for the first time, potentially ever, with a nasty hangover, you wouldn't be so great with aiming or being able to survive alone in the woods solo either.

    "I love Fallout games but never really pay close attention to the main quest." -This is the Fallout game for you. "I heard there are no NPCs" There are no HUMAN NPCs, but there are plenty of quest givers in the world to send you to new places and teach you new systems. "This game is dumb." -You probably haven't played it and love the idea of being negative for sport. "Bethesda games are buggy" -You're right, and they've laid out a roadmap of what they're fixing with regular updates. "This isn't a single player game." -You're right. This isn't. Elder Scrolls Online didn't mean Elder Scrolls 6 wasn't being made. It's an online game, but ES6 was still announced.

This didn't stop me from playing it nonstop all summer and it didn't once bore me to the point of abandonment.     Surprisingly good, great survival type game and tons of exploration and things to do, thus game actually made me realiss how much i actually hated Fallout 4s generic cookie cutter NPCs in cookie cutter settlements. Dont listen to all the haters that never gave the game a try and everyine that just hates change.

    Love the game. I don't usually play the other Fallout games in survivor mode, so this was new to me; but after getting the hang of it, not an issue. If you are a player rushing in to finish it, then you will be low on resources and get frustrated at times; you will probably resort to exploits and further glitching your game. This game is not for everyone, but if you enjoy exploring,Love the game.     To be honest this game is good, I really like it, the fact that you can create your own story and do whatever you want is so fun. The people who are complaining about the game obviously don't have a sense of creativity and imagination. Yes it's buggy, and there are some points where it's boring but overall I think it's a fun game.

    Graphics are above average. Perk cards make changing your character midgame easy. Soundtrack is most of the classic fallout songs with some new ones. Survival aspects make game better than other fallout titles. Lack of annoying human NPCs is great. Great game that will only get more amazing as free dlc is released.

    I really enjoy this game. I've played solo, with a friend, with two other friends, and two other friends and a random. The limit of 24 per server helps make the game feel like you are one of the last survivors in the area. You can spend hours exploring just one town and not even realize it.

    Don't let other people tell you what you'll enjoy. Just rent and try it for yourself. It's not the next game after Fallout 4 and it never was meant to be. It's a post apocalyptic survivor game, where all human NPCs that weren't in the security of a vault died off in the area and you have stepped out of your vault for the first time.    … Expand

Making a camp is just like making a settlement in fallout 4 but on a smaller scale and you can set up anywhere a certain dist away from other player camps. Cool right?! You get to build yourself a home and pretty it up however you like. Needless to say, II actually thought this game was awesome for a minute. I gained a couple levels, collected some supplies, then finally made a camp. THE **** CABIN SPENT HOURS BUILDING!! **** this game and **** the bethesda for this **** stupid piece of garbage game.

    I don't care if I can fix it or not or whatever. I honestly sick of playing video games dumb**** gaming companies release a broken **** game and expect me to pay them actual **** money and also be hired on as their de facto bug tester.     I'm not getting many disconnections anymore, less glitches and I'm actually having fun playing it!
    It's not a "WOW" factor like I had initially playing Fallout 4 or games like God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn but still I'm enjoying it.

    So if I had to rate the game upon my very 1st experience, it would've been somewhere between a 2 or a 4 / 10 like most of the people here.
    And like most people here, I tought "WTF, I'm just gonna return this garbage of a game..."

    Now I'd probably crank it up 2~3 notches at about 6~7 /10.
    I doubt it will ever reach a 9-10 state but with some more tweaks it could be an 8/10 which would be just fine!

    You can't judge a sandbox game like this before you actually saw more than just the beggining of it.
    Radiations, Food and Water thingie was a turn-off for me in the first 4-5 levels and I was wondering how I would manage to deal with it in a long term manner but after spending 2-3 perks, it now became easily manageable.

    So I understand the frustrations of most people giving the game 0-2 score but if you would've actually cared to play more than a couple of hours before rushing here to bash on it, maybe there'd be more 5-6-7s which would be more accurate.

And the levels of players on server are to varied. A level 4 is not going up against scorch beasts. You're lucky if you get two people in the same area, let alone 8.

    This game should not have been sold. Waste of money. And this is coming from a guy that has skyrim tattoos. I love Bethesda. But this game is horrible. The only reason I keep playing it is so I get my money's worth and drudge through the npc Void story.    … Expand

The AI Is reasonably Intelligent, the enemy will hide when they cannot reach you ect.. The gunplay Is solid, and the gameplay Is hilarious with friends and Is great to explore the landscape.

    It has many imperfections but see through them and you do have a fun game. Not all games have to be serious, If you have fun who cares. Most people here are jumping on the hate bandwagon or playing alone. If you have friends to play with you will find fun here, I assure you.    … Expand

    The game is Basically a 60 dollar beta. It has countless bugs, unfit for any full release. On top of the fact there are no NPCs that you have a convo with, about life, trade goods or anything really. just robots and a super mutant who has nothing to say, really takes away from the game.     Then there is the weight limits. In a normal game you could use the console or even find a mod that said, hey, maybe it makes more sense that if you have a Base... you should have a much larger inventory size. But without mods, because multiplayer, we are limited to our very small amount of loot we can keep. I find myself selling most of my aids, just because it weighs me down so much. But then I run into the problem of the robots having a very low cap, and even if you buy something worth 200 caps they only get 20 of that? So you never even get back what you spent. This may have been intentionally, to promote player to player trading, but with such a small weight limit I find most players not even picking up anything they don't need.

    Then to the final issue I have really have with the game... the multiplayer aspect and pvp. I like the idea of playing with a friend, teaming up and doin some quests maybe trading some stuff, but I, as I am sure a lot of fallout players do not have many Friends. I met a few people in game but none I really played with a lot.Maybe a hour here or there. A hey trade you my shotgun shells for your .44 or the likes. But I found myself unable to play at my own pace with random people. So, I spent most of my time solo, which was fine. I am highly enjoying the game... until I need to claim anything. I killed this player 8 times as he just zerged this workstation I was at. 10 minutes and he just kept zerging. Eventually he brought 3 friends to just outnumber me and took the work station. I like the idea of pvp in this game, but I feel like it needs a BIG overhaul. It does not reward a solo player, it only rewards players for massing in bands and playing with friends. One scorchbeast drops the same loot for each player, vs solo killing one drops the same loot for just you. I feel like I have to find people to play with just to enjoy the game, which, for me, makes it less enjoyable.

    The game still has a core, and it is very fun imo. I was not expecting to like it as much as I am, it has consumed every waking hour of my week. But now, as the end game content is farming at work stations, like the ammo depot, I just feel discouraged to even play. I need ammo to kill the scaled mobs for my quests but making it is to costly and fighting for it is to free. I killed this dude 8 times. and he just came back.

    I am mainly writing this because I feel the score it currently has IS way to low for the quality that IS within the game, but it's far from perfect. If anyone actually read this, thank you.    … Expand

It feels like Bethesda have been terrified of alienating any portion of the market by making something revolutionary and as such have really created nothing new or interesting.     If they tried to make a game that was worse than this I don;t think they could have done it. Not only that but I can't get a refund of this trash because I did a digital download. This will be the last dime Bethesda gets form me. So long old friend. It was fun while it lasted until you decided to squeeze $60 from me for an unready and poorly designed game.

    I bought the game on release as long time fallout fan i didnt expect much of it, ive played for the last few days and i started to get some severe stomach and lower back pain, 2 days ago i went to the doctor to get checked on my colon and i was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer, im just 24 years old.. Well i think its safe to say this game gave me cancer.

    Well aside from the devastating news i can confirm that this game has gamebreaking bugs like being stuck in power armor and not being able to get out of it, Many exp exploits and infinite carry capacity glitches.. Since the beta.. and guess what... Radio silence from bethesda.
    Speaking of radio, starting quimo next week wish me luck, have fun with other games and dont play this garbage    … Expand

    this is not fallout. it is fun such as can be fortnite if you play with friend.
    if it is fun it doensnt mean it is a good IP. Horrible quest design and not deep narrative..
    is the same graphich engine of elder scrolls with great lights.

    and it went out with a full price 79€. dont buy play fallout 4, 3, new vegas.

    When Digital Chumps posted their review this late you know it was only to catch some views for being the only unique green. With a game like Oblivion I get taking a week or two, but not with this scumbag game. Just read it (or at least try to) and you will see they also did it to bring up the game out of the red status. They are definitely living up to their name of 'chumps.'

    + it's a fallout game...kind of

    - abysmal performance and optimisation, outdated graphics, crashes across all platforms.
    - terrible reuse of an old single player game engine to patch together a shallow online experience
    - possible hacks, tons of bugs, easy exploits, terrible AI and pathing which leads me to believe that QA department in this company doesn't exist or they smoked crack while testing it
    - 24 people per server on a giant map. in 2018...
    - game tries to cater to PvE players even though there's no real PvE (robot NPCs, really?), end game doesn't exist
    - game tries to cater to PvP crowd when the combat system between players is totally neutered and really worthless.
    - and a lot of other issues there's no point in mentioning anymore

    Bethesda should be ashamed of releasing a product in this state, regardless of the game design they had for this title.

    If you need your Fallout dose, play one of the earliest titles with mods.
    If you want a higher risk/reward survival sandbox PvP game, play Rust. It's growing very well and has a consistent user base with a lot of different server types. OR play Conan, or Ark. Or whatever else, just not this piece of crap.

    PLEASE - DO. NOT. BUY. THIS
    At least wait for a huge sale (it has already started) and then maybe check it out for yourself. Otherwise please, vote with your wallet and stay away from this piece of crap as far as possible.    … Expand

    I love this game.. there are some bugs, but the survival mode and the pvp protection is great.

    I have played every fallout that has come out. I love 76. Its something new. I am so tired of everyone putting it down. Yes, there are bugs. But what game doesnt after a short release time. Bethesda will take care of all the problems in time. So to those who are totally trashing it. Get over yourselves.

Fallout 4 began a trend toward emphasizing the style and aesthetics of Fallout over its substance and writing. Fallout 76 takes this shift to new levels, by stripping away the core gameplay to encourage gameplay loops revolving around a base building mechanic that provides no benefit, sense of progress, or satisfaction to the player. There seems to be be very little thought towards progression at all in this game, as many of the main quests are bugged and unable to be completed. End game content is barely differentiated from early game content, which only reinforces that the game gives little incentive to reach the end game.

    Instead, the game seems to be designed to provide a convenient way to spend $5 of your hard earned money to buy one of seven digital outfits from the atomic shop for your soulless avatar to show off to a soulless world void of any functional or worthwhile gameplay. Most of the content of the game is locked behind a poorly designed game economy and difficult to discover plans and schematics. You can modify weapons/amor you find, but to craft them you must find plans that are given out randomly as quest rewards or from in-game vendors with woefully small inventories. The game seems like it was designed to encourage microtransactions, but at the last moment was changed to help reduce some of the backlash the game deserves entirely to receive.

    My final thoughts are that it is disgusting that this game was released in this dysfunctional and incomplete state. Baffling design choices plague the game, showing an unwillingness of Bethesds Game Studios to commit to anything more than a ground level, proof-of-concept for a monetzation scheme. I have spent 100 hours in this game, and the longer I play, the more I find wrong with it. I want to like this game, but there is just too much wrong or missing from it for it to be considered a $60, AAA release. I rate it 0 out of 10 because it's not even a complete game.     lag and monotony. Played for 2 hrs then sell it.

    Compare to The last of us, god of war, final fantary 15, fall out 4, battlefield 5, monster hunter world, spider man ps4, red dead redemption 2.

    Fallout 76 is a fall out.

    Im not really sure where the hate is coming from, this game is essentially Fallout 4 set in West Virginia and with some online elements thrown in, though they arent required. I've put in maybe 20 hours so far and have had a blast. Its lore is absolutely fantastic.

    Producing Video Games costs a lot of money and manpower. For Companies a failure in Sales is a big risk, especially for big ones. As a consequence big Publishers tend to be very conservative. I find this highly annoying. This years Title looks, feels and plays like that from last year. Experiments are spares. I find a lot of games plain boring. “Been there, done that.”

    Let’s take a look at Red Dead Redemption 2. The Mission Design hasn’t evolved much since GTA III. And most of the time - forgive me - you look at your horses ass. Sounds fun? Duh…

    I think RDR2 is as highly overrated as F76 is underrated. For a lot of reasons. A lot of critic I hear about F76 is “the emptynes of the world”.
    It’s a world after a nuclear war? What do you expect?
    Besides that I don’t find it empty at all. There is so much to do, so much to explore.

    The choice from Bethesda not to put any Human NPCs into the Game is brave and ingenious. This makes the game even better. You are a lone Survivor and every know and then you stumble over another Survivor and he is a humane player. This is the Wasteland I always imagined and wanted. It’s not overcrowded and you fell a lonelynes when you wander through Appalachia. Brillant, Bethesda, Brillant!

    Some of the most memorable moments I had in a Videogame, I had in Fallout 76: one night I was ransacking a house in the woods. When I got out, between the dark trees a pair of big red eyes where gazing at me. Mothman. I ran, like if never run in a game before.
    Another time I was doing a quest and suddenly a big flying Creature appeared on the horizon into my direction. I tried to hide, that failed. I was killed instantly. After a respawn a full blown air fight was developing. Some sort of helicopters where attacking the creature.
    Both these events where unscripted and I love F76 for those moments.

    By the ways so far I played only solo and had a blast. It can only be better coop.

    Yes. There are some bugs. But I didn’t discover anything major so far. The launch was normal for an online game. No big downtimes. Since the last patch I didn’t had any lag at all.

    For me this is the best Fallout so far and my Game of the Year. I am very curious how this Game will develop.

    So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

    Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

    Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
